THE DOOR LOCKS ON THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT SECURE AND MUST BE SECURED MANUALLY WHEN ENTERING OR EXITING THE VEHICLE, ALSO UNLOCKS AND LOCKS DURING DRIVING.. VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME DUE TO THESE DOOR LOCK ISSUES. NOT ABLE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE AS MUCH WITH THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THESE ISSURES. PLEASE FIX.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THE POWER STEERING SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,430.

POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ACTIVATED THEN LOST OF STEERING WHILE IN PROCESS OF TURNING RIGHT FROM A STOP. HAD SERVICE REPAIR DONE AND TORQUE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. *TR
ONE DAY, I FOUND OUT THROUGH A RANDOM PERSON THAT THERE ARE RECALLS ON THE CAR. I HAD BEEN HAVING TROUBLE OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING A LOT WHILE DRIVING, AS IF IT WASN'T CONNECTED TO THE WHEELS. I WILL CAUSE ME TO LOSE CONTROL A LITTLE BIT AND SWERVE. THEN AFTER IT SHAKES A LOT, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WOULD POP ON ON THE DASHBOARD. SO I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE FIXED. THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT, BUT IT WAS STILL SHAKING. ONCE I GOT IT HOME, IT STOP WORKING, WOULD NOT START UP. SO I HAD THEM TO SEND A TOW TO PICK IT UP. AFTER CHECKING IT, I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND I HAD TO PAY FOR THAT. I MENTION TO THEM THAT THE STEERING WAS STILL SHAKING ALSO. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK IT AGAIN. AFTER I WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED, I WENT AND PICKED IT UP. AS SOON AS I DROVE AWAY, THE STEERING WAS STILL SHAKING. I DID NOT WANT TO TAKE IT BACK BECAUSE THEY WERE CHARGING ME EVERYTIME THEY HAD TO DO A DIAGNOSIS ON THE CAR. THE STEERING IS STILL SHAKING AND BAD, AFTER TWO CHECKS. IT CAUSES ME TO SWERVE WHILE DRIVING AND I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN. I CAN'T TEACH MY DAUGHTER HOW TO DRIVE BECAUSE I NEVER KNOW WHEN IT MAY SHAKE. AFTER TWO FIXES AND IT STILL SHAKES, I FEEL LIKE THIS CAN'T BE FIXED BY THE PARTS THEY ARE REQUIRED TO PUT ON THE CAR TO STOP IT.
WHEN DRIVING THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE REGAINED POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS, COIL SPRINGS AND THE WIRE HARNESS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
I PARKED MY CAR AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT. I HAD TO CONTINUALLY RE-START THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK AND JIGGLE UNTIL FOR SOME REASON IT WORKED AND THE KEY FINALLY CAME OUT.

WHILE DRIVING THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT CAME ONTHE THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON THEN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAN ON WITH REDUCE ENGINE POWER. HAD TO PULL OVER CUT CAR OFF AND BACK ON EVERYTHING WENT AWAY EXCEPT CHECK ENGINE TOOK THAT TO BE CHECKED OUR IT CAME BACK AS A THROTTLE BODY OR LOOSE HOSE. CUT CAR BACK ON EVERYTHING WAS OFF. WENT TO WORK STARTED BACK UP EVERYTHING WAS FINE THEN AT 45 DID IT AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD A POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 197,000.
ON 4/13/2015 - 3/5/2015 MY 2009 MALIBU IS EXPERIENCING A STEERING ISSUE. MY DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A SIGNAL, POWER STEERING / SERVICE ESC. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT IT WAS FINE. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT, NOT FOR MY VIN # THEY SAID FOR A $ 99.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. SINCE THEN IT HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT ALMOST DAILY EVEN "WHILE DRIVING " IT WILL GO OUT. ALL YEAR VEHICLES INVOLVED SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL NOT JUST CERTAIN VIN # PLEASE CHECK INTO THE SEVERITY OF THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS KNOWN ABOUT PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AROUND A CURVE, LIGHT APPLICATION OF THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE, ESC ACTIVATES WITH A WARNING LAMP AND "ESC ACTIVE" MESSAGE. THERE IS TYPICALLY NO NEED FOR STABILITY CONTROL TO BE ACTIVE AND IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM BECAUSE THE COMPUTER OVER-AGGRESSIVELY TRIES TO COMPENSATE FOR A NON EXISTENT ISSUE MAKING CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT AS WELL AS DANGEROUS DUE TO THE INABILITY FOR THE DRIVER TO SAFELY APPLY THE BRAKES DUE TO THE ESC OVERRIDE. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTING JERKING WHILE DRIVING ON MAIN ROAD BARELY MADE IT HOME UNABLE TO PUT CAR IN REVERSE HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER WAVE PLATE DISINTEGRATED AND HAD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. GENERAL MOTORS HAS ISSUED A SPECIAL SERVICE COVERAGE FOR CERTAIN VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM MINE IS NOT INCLUDED AND BEING THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THEY REALLY SHOULD INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS KNOWN ISSUE. *TR
IT HAS HAPPENED A COUPLE TIMES....THE SERVICE ECS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COME ON AND THEN THE VEHICLE FEELS AS IF IT IS MISSING. WE PULLED INTO AN ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF...WENT INSIDE TO GET SOMEONE TO PUT IT ON THE METER AND IT WAS FINE. ALMOST 2 WEEKS LATER IT DID IT AGAIN...FEARFUL WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF WE WERE ON THE INTERSTATE GOING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. WONDERING IF IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE MAY RECALL. EVEN THOUGH WE HAD THE RECALL COMPLETED IT IS STILL ACTING UP. *TR
STARTED CAR UP AND MESSAGE CENTER FLASHES POWER STEERING, SERVICE ESC. I GET CODES U2143, C0561 ON SCANNER . TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING ASSIST. THIS CAR IS NOT PART OF RECALL ON STEERING PROBLEM BUT IT SHOULD BE! *TR
ON SUNDAY, MARCH 29TH, A "POWER STEERING" AND A "SERVICE ESCAPE" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD. SO, I TRYING TO TURN THE CAR BUT, IT WAS VERY VERY HARD TO DO SO. THIS WAS SO SCARY . I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $110 DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE AND FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS VERY UPSET BECAUSE I FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS SAME TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH OTHER MODELS ON CHEVY MALIBU. THERE'S NOTHING THAT I COULD HAVE DONE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I CALLED GM HEADQUARTER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I DON'T BELIEVE THAT THIS DECISION IS FAIR. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL BUT, HOW COULD THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPEN . I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE DEALERSHIP AND GM HEADQUARTER. *TR
UPON STARTUP OF THE VEHICLE, THE YELLOW WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES WITH THE MESSAGES "SERVICE ESC" FOLLOWED BY "ESC OFF". THIS IS CONCURRENT WITH LOSS OF POWER TO THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MAKING LOW-SPEED TURNS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT, BUT STILL MANAGEABLE. PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK, TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE MITIGATES THIS ISSUE. *TR
I WENT TO START MY CAR AND THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT FLASHED ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING LIGHT. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN. THIS SEEMED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM TEMPORARILY. AS A FEW DAYS WENT BY, THE PROBLEM WAS MORE FREQUENT. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE WILL START WITH THE ERROR LIGHTS FLASHING MORE TIMES THAN IT WILL NOT. THE VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN. HOWEVER, IT IS VERY DIFFICULY TO TURN, ESPECIALLY AT SLOW SPEEDS. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
IN PAST FEW WEEKS MY VEH. POWER STEERING FAILED, AND SHOWED A CODE OF PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM. HAVING TAKEN IT TO CHEVROLET TO BE REPAIRED I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER VEHS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR "ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING PROBLEMS". MY YEAR VEH. APPARENTLY HAS NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE CURRENT RECALL ORDER. HAVING BEEN ADVISED BY CHEVROLET THAT THIS ISSUE IS A STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR, I BELIEVE THAT THIS PROVES THAT CHEVROLET HAS NOT CORRECTED THE STEERING ISSUES IN THEIR VEHICLES. I BELIEVE NHTSA SHOULD CONTINUE TO CAREFULLY REVIEW CHEVROLETS MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS OF THIS STEERING SYSTEM, AND FORCE THEM TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO RECTIFY WHATEVER ISSUES ARE FOUND, BEFORE THIS OCCURS TO SOMEONE ELSE AND A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH OCCURS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING JUST A FEW BLOCKS FROM MY HOUSE WHEN I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SO I WENT TO GO. MY CAR THEN FLASHED A SERVICE ESC WARNING, THEN IT FLASHED ESC OFF & THEN FLASHED ENGINE POWER REDUCED. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON AND HAS STAYED ON. MY CAR WOULDN'T EVEN GO OVER 10MPH, AND WAS SHAKING SO BAD I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THANK GOD I DIDN'T MAKE IT OUT OF TOWN. I JUST RECENTLY HAD MY CAR AT THE CHEVROLET AUTO SHOP TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY REBUILT AND FOR THE BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTION RECALL. THEN MY CAR ENDED UP BACK IN THE SHOP APPARENTLY FOR A BAD CADILLAC CONVERTER, WHICH I THINK REALLY WAS THIS PROBLEM ALL ALONG. I HAVE ONLY HAD THIS CAR FOR A YEAR, AND I AM BEYOND DISGUSTED WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS. I DON'T THINK I WILL BE PURCHASING ANOTHER VEHICLE FROM CHEVROLET, AS THEY JUST AREN'T GOOD CARS APPARENTLY. WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING LOT MY POWER STEERING SUDDENLY QUIT WORKING AND THE SERVICE ESC AND POWER STEERING LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. I LOOKED UP MY VIN TO SEE IF IT QUALIFIED FOR A RECALL BUT IT DIDN'T FIT UNDER RECALL #14V153000 EVEN THOUGH MY CAR WAS BUILT THE SAME YEAR AND SAME MODEL AND IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS DESCRIBED IN THIS RECALL. THIS RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE MORE VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AN AUDIBLE ALARM SOUNDED AND A MESSAGE APPEARED IN THE DRIVER INFORMATION CONSOLE INDICATING A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE STEERING WAS BARELY FUNCTIONAL AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CRASH IF MY SPOUSE OR CHILDREN HAD BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS CONDITION OCCURRED OFF AND ON FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE I COULD HAVE IT SERVICED AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. UPON A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET FOR RECALLS, I NOTICED THAT MY MAKE, MODEL, AND CERTAIN VEHICLES MANUFACTURED THE SAME YEAR WERE PART OF A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THAT I HAD REPAIRED - A FAULTY TORQUE SENSOR IN THE POWER STEERING UNIT. MY DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SAFETY RECALL. A CALL TO THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER ON 4-17-2015 WAS UNSATISFACTORY. CHEVROLET DECLINED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR REPAIRS TO MY VEHICLE FOR THE SAME ISSUE THAT OTHER MALIBUS, PRODUCED IN THE SAME YEAR, WERE COVERED BY A RECALL. I REQUEST THE NHTSB EXTEND THE RECALL ON THE POWER STEERING FAILURE TO ALL 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLES. I HAVE READ IN ONLINE FORUMS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE FACING THE SAME ISSUE, AND MANY ARE NOT HAVING REPAIRS MADE DUE TO COST. THIS IS INDEED CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION TO THE OWNERS AND THE MOTORING PUBLIC. *TR
WHEN I AM DRIVING THE DASHBOARD LIGHT WOULD GO BLACK AND THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES COME BACK ON THEN ABS, BRAKE LIGHTS, ANTI-THEFT, AIR PRESSURE, AND ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD FLASH! THEN COME OFF AND ON WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION AND I HAVE NO SIGNAL OR BRAKE LIGHTS AND GAS GAUGE AND SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF WHILE THOSE LIGHTS ARE ON IT WON'T RESTART. SOMETIMES I CANNOT GET INTO THE CAR BECAUSE THE REMOTE DOESN'T WORK, I WOULD GO BACK OUT AFTER A FEW HOURS AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD WORK. I JUST GOT THIS 2009 CHEVY MALIBU 5 MONTHS AGO FROM A DEALER AND BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT!! I AM UNEMPLOYED AND MY HUSBAND LOST HIS JOB I CAN'T AFFORD THE CAR PAYMENT AND INSURANCE AND HAVING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!! I HAVE BEEN READING ONLINE THOUSAND OF CHEVY MALIBU ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE!! IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO TURN THE VEHICLE. A "POWER STEERING" MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,640.
ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK PASSENGER DOORS FROM DRIVER DOOR PANEL SWITCH WHEN THE DRIVER REAR DOOR LOCK FAILED TO OPEN. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND GOT OUT TO GO TO HIS AID BUT I COULDN'T UNLOCK THE BACK DOOR. I PANICKED AND HAD TO TRY TO CLIMB THROUGH THE SMALL SPACE FROM THE FRONT SEAT TO THE BACK BUT COULD NOT QUICKLY GET MY CHOKING CHILD OUT OF THE CAR. LATER THAT DAY I CHECKED THE DOOR LOCKS AFTER CALMING DOWN AND I AM NOT ABLE TO LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS.I NOTICED CLICKING NOISES BUT NEVER PAID ANY ATTENTION TO IT AS IT WAS NOT A CONCERN UNTIL I COULD NOT FREE MY CHOCKING CHILD FROM THE BACK SEAT.I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR USED LAST MONTH. DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AROUND 60 MPH WHEN THE POWER STEERING ON MY '09 MALIBU FROZE. AN ESC NOTIFICATION CAME ON AND THEN ONE FOR POWER STEERING. MANAGED TO GET MY CAR OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN TO RESET. THIS HAPPENED 6 MORE TIMES ON MY 10 MILE COMMUTE HOME. THIS HAD HAPPEN A FEW TIMES BEFORE BUT VERY INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ON-LINE I LEARNED THAT GM IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A RECALL NOTICE LAST YEAR BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE MY VIN (CONFIRMED WITH DEALER). BECAUSE MY VIN IS NOT COVERED THIS WILL BE AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE FOR ME THOUGH AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, IS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR MAY NOT BE THE SAME AS THE ONES IN THE RECALL NOTICE BUT WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL I BRING IT IN. THERE MAY BE A POSSIBILITY THAT MY VIN WILL BE INCLUDED IN A SUBSEQUENT RECALL NOTICE AND IF IT IS I CAN BE REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE. *TR

NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 14V153000 BULLETIN 14116 STATES 2008-2009 CHEVY MALIBU BUILT FROM 3/1/08-6/2708 ARE COVERED MY CAR WAS BUILT 8/2008. SO IT WASN'T COVERED. THE BULLETIN SAYS TOR REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR ASSEMBLY. THE SAME PART THAT FAILED ON MY CAR. THE GM PART # IS 232310 SENSOR KIT IT COST $216 + $305 FOR LABOR + $149 FOR ALIGNMENT AND TAX FOR A TOTAL OF $746.29. WHICH I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING. GM IS RECALLING OVER 1.3 MILLION CAR BETWEEN 2005-2010 FOR THE SUDDEN LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST. I BELIEVE ALL MODELS BETWEEN THOSE YEARS SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
