ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE. YOUNG FEMALE DRIVER HAD DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR THE TRACTION SERVICE AND POWER STEERING ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL FUNCTION. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 118,000. UPDATED 10/7/14*CN
REAR DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT OPEN WHEN CAR IS PUT IN PARK ALSO WILL NOT OPEN WITH REMOTE.
WHILE DRIVING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE SERVICE TRACTION, SERVICE ESC, AND ESC OFF WARNING LIGHTS HAVE ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH. ON TWO OF THESE OCCASIONS, MOTORISTS HAVE ATTRACTED MY ATTENTION AND NOTIFIED ME THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE REVERSED. APPARENTLY, THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NOT APPLIED, AND THE LIGHTS GO OFF WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. I ASSUME THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS APPEAR, WHICH IS AT RANDOM TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS A DELAY IN RESPONSE. IN ADDITION, THE ESC ACTIVE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V252000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN DRIVING, SERVICE ESC AND SERVICE TRACTION SHOW UP ON DASH. WHEN THAT APPEARS THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKE AND WHEN BRAKE IS APPLIED THE BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T COME ON. I SPOKE TO CHEVROLET AND THEY SAID IT WAS UNDER RECALL BUT I HAD TO TAKE IT INTO A DEALER AND HAVE IT CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS THE PROBLEM AT A COST TO ME AND ANYWAY THEY CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE PARTS. SO WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT AND IT IS MY YOUNG DAUGHTERS CAR SHE DRIVES TO SCHOOL. I DON'T WANT HER TO DRIVE IT BUT IT IS THE ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR HER. THIS IS RIDICULOUS KNOWING THAT IT IS RECALLED AN NOTHING TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. UNTIL WHEN, ITS TO LATE OR SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND I HAD TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. ENGINE REVVED, RPMS WERE HIGH. SHUT CAR OFF, RESTARTED AND CAR WOULD NOT GET OUT OF SECOND GEAR. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A CHEVROLET DEALER, WHO TOLD ME MY TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO A WAVE PLATE ISSUE. ALTHOUGH 6T70 TRANSMISSION WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO SOME 6 SPEED 2009 MALIBU'S, I WAS TOLD MINE WAS NOT, EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM IS KNOWN TO EXIST IN ALL GM 6 SPEED TRANSMISSIONS. THIS TRANSMISSION IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD AND THE 10 YEAR 120K MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY SHOULD BE OFFERED TO EVERY AUTOMOBILE WITH THIS TRANSMISSION....UPDATED 09/22/15 *BF

AFTER THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V252000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, EXTERIOR LIGHTING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL), THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CONTACT NOTIFIED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE EXTERIOR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER (COX CHEVROLET, 2900 CORTEZ RD W, BRADENTON, FL 34207, (941) 749-2699) WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS REQUIRED. THE CONTACT FELT AS IF THE RECALL REPAIR PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
2009 CHEVY MALIBU'S, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON THE DASH WHEN DRIVING. REAR BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PUSHED AND STAY ON WHEN I AM NOT PRESSING ON THE BRAKE. *TR
WHILE NIGHT DRIVING AT 55 MPH ON A BUSY, WET HIGHWAY, I NOTICED IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR THAT THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED ON MY CAR. I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE PEDAL WAS STUCK BY LIFTING IT WITH MY FOOT; IT WAS NOT STUCK. THEN I QUICKLY TAPPED THE BRAKES - THE BRAKE LIGHT WENT OFF ONLY TO RE-ILLUMINATE SECONDS LATER. I QUICKLY EXITED THE HIGHWAY AS MOTORISTS WERE BEGINNING TO BEEP AT ME. I CONTINUED TO PRESS AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE OFF RAMP, ONLY TO RECEIVE THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE BRAKE LIGHT SYSTEM. WHILE DRIVING, THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON; UPON SLOWING OR STOPPING, THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. I HAVE LOOKED AT THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND SEE THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT FROM OWNERS OF THE 2009 MALIBU. A RECALL HAS BEEN IN QUESTION SINCE MARCH OF 2013; I STRESS THAT THE NHTSA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, AS THE MALFUNCTION IS SEVERE ENOUGH TO CAUSE FATALITIES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT AFTER A COOL DOWN PERIOD OF 35-45 MINUTES, HE RESTARTED THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V153000(STEERING). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT LISTED IN THE RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THREE OF THE DOOR LOCKS FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE DOOR ACTUATOR FOR ALL THREE DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE TRACTION CONTROL AND SERVICE ESC LIGHTS COME ON. THE BRAKE LIGHT COME ON WHILE DRIVING BUT WILL NOT COME ON WHEN THE BRAKE IS PUSHED. THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPS WORKING AND IT'S LOUD WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. *TR
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AND A MAN WHO WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION CAME SPEEDING UP AND REAR ENDED ME HE HIT ME SO HARD THAT MY CAR HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THAT CAR HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. 4 CARS TOTAL. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND I AM SUFFERING FROM MANY INJURIES BECAUSE OF THAT. THE MAN WHO HIT ME WAS GOING AROUND 50 MILES PER HOUR. I BELIEVE WITH SUCH IMPACT THAT HE HIT ME THE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. MY FACE SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND HURT ME VERY BADLY ALSO I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SEAT AND THE SEATBELT. THE SEAT I WAS IN IS ALL BROKEN NOW DUE TO THE ACCIDENT AND I AM ALSO THINKING THAT THE SEATBELT IS ALSO DEFECTIVE. *TR
PROBLEM WITH IGNITION SWITCH CAR WILL NOT START NOW, THEY HAVE RECALLED UP TO THE 2008 MAILBU BUT NOT THE 2009 MAILBU (LTZ) FOR THIS ISSUE. RESOLUTION TO THE ISSUE WOULD BE REPLACING THE SWITCH WITH A NEW ONE NOT WHAT THEY ARE DOING NOW DRILLING A HOLE IN THE KEY, REALLY. CHEVROLET HAS A MASSIVE ISSUE WITH A LOT MORE CARS THAT NEED TO BE RECALLED WHICH HAVE NO BEEN YET. IF THEY WANT TO KEEP THERE CUSTOMERS THEY NEED TO REPAIR CORRECTLY AND RECALL AND FIX IT THE RIGHT WAY. MY CALL NEEDS A RECALL FOR THIS NOW. *TR

THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE DOOR LOCKS WERE UNLOCKING AND LOCKING INDEPENDENTLY SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. LIVING IN ARIZONA, WHEN THE WEATHER IS HOTTER THAN 90 F, THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS DO NOT UNLOCK AND HAVE TO BE MANUALLY UNLOCKED. *TR
PASSENGER DOORS (FRONT AND BACK) STOPPED LOCKING/UNLOCKING. ALTHOUGH THEY CLICK TO REFLECT THAT IT IS ATTEMPTING, IT DOES NOT COMPLETE. I HAVE READ ON COUNTLESS SITES THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR MANY 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU'S AND VOICING MY COMPLAINT AS WELL IN HOPES THAT GM IS FORCED TO DEAL WITH THEIR GROWING AND CONTINUED ISSUE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL DOORS FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK ELECTRONICALLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO MANUALLY LOCK AND UNLOCK THE DOORS . THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING POWER STEERING WENT OUT. 2014 APRIL 26. SAME THING HAPPENED A YEAR LATER THE EXACT DATE 2015. *TR
DOOR WILL NOT OPEN. I WAS LOCKED IN MY OWN CAR AT THE GAS STATION. I MANUALLY PULLED UP ON THE DOOR LOCK AND STILL COULDN'T GET OUT. I ROLLED THE WINDOW DOWN AND PULLED ON THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE RELEASE AND NOTHING. AFTER PUSHING EVERY BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES AND PUTTING THE CAR IN AND OUT OF PARK I FINALLY MANAGED TO GET OUT. 2 DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT I WAS OUTSIDE THE CAR. I HAD TO CRAWL FROM THE PASSENGERS SIDE TO GET INTO THE DRIVERS SEAT TO GET TO WORK. SINCE THE DOOR LOCKS WERE ACTING UP I PULLED THE FUSE AND DECIDED TO DO IT OLD SCHOOL AND USE THE KEY TO LOCK AND UNLOCK MY CAR. GOOD IDEA UNTIL I WAS LEAVING WORK AND THE KEY WOULDN'T OPEN THE DOOR. GREAT!!! HEY, I WILL JUST UNLOCK THE PASSENGER DOOR AND CLIMB IN. DID YOU KNOW THERE IS NO PLACE TO INSERT A KEY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE? I DO NOW. AFTER MUCH CURSING I MANAGED TO GET IN USING THE KEY BUT THEN THE DOOR WOULDN'T CLOSE. OH MY GOD I THOUGHT. I HAD TO USE 2 BUNGEE CORDS TO HOLD THE DOOR CLOSE SO I COULD DRIVE THE CAR 25 MILES HOME. I DIDN'T MENTION THAT THE BACK DOOR QUIT WORKING OVER A YEAR AGO DID I? I THINK IT IS TIME FOR A RECALL. BEING LOCKED IN YOUR CAR IN NOT A GOOD THING. IMAGINE IF THE FIRST RESPONDERS COULDN'T GET YOU OUT OF YOUR CAR IF YOU WERE IN A ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF FAULTY DOOR ACTUATORS. I SEE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THIS DEFECT AND NOW IT IS TIME SOMEBODY HAS TO STEP UP AND DO THEIR JOB AND ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. APPARENTLY SOMEBODY HAS TO DIE FIRST AND SUE EVERYONE INVOLVED TO MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH JUST AS LISTED ON A GM RECALL FOR THIS EXACT MAKE AND MODEL. MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT IT HAD THE EXACT SAME FAILURE. GM WILL DO NOTHING SINCE MY SPECIFIC VIN IS NOT LISTED. *TR
BEGINNING ON APRIL 15, 2014 MY CAR FLASHES ESC OFF, SERVICE ESC, SERVICE TRACTION. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN AND IT TURNS OFF THE TRACTION CONTROL IN MY CAR AND CAUSES THE CRUISE CONTROL TO CEASE FUNCTION. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE ALERT WILL SOUND ALERTING THAT ENGINE POWER HAS BEEN REDUCED. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL IS THEN TURNED OFF AND TRACTION CONTROL IS LOST. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED IT HESITATES BEFORE ACCELERATING. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE NUMBER13036. TO MY UNDERSTANDING THE RECALL HAS NOT BEEN SENT OUT TO THE CURRENT DEALERS TO DEAL WITH THE RECALL. MY CAR BRAKES LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON WHILE I'M DRIVING PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT SINCE THE LIGHTS WERE NOT SHOWING ANY DEFECT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I HAVE CONTACTED THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, BUT SINCE THE RECALL IS STILL IN THE NOTIFICATION PROCESS THEY TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO SINCE THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. IF AND WHEN I TAKE MY VEHICLE IN IF THE LIGHTS ARE NOT COMING ON WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING OR IN PARK THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. WHAT AM I LEFT TO DO AT THIS POINT I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT BEFORE THIS IS ALL OVER SOMEONE IS GOING TO LOSE THEIR LIFE. *TR

IN ADDITION, AS THE FAILURE PROGRESSED, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT AND VARIOUS PASSENGERS WERE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES AND PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. I WAS DRIVING 25 MPH IN A SCHOOL ZONE WHEN IT FELT LIKE ANOTHER CAR HAD CRASHED INTO ME , I LOOKED IN ALL MY MIRRORS AND THERE WAS NO OTHER CARS AROUND , I THEN NOTICE MY DRIVER SEAT HAD ME SITTING LOPSIDED AND SOMETHING WAS STABBING ME IN THE HIP, SOMETHING UNDER MY SEAT HAD BUSTED, SO I WENT HOME LOOKED AT IT FURTHER AND THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF SEAT GEAR THAT HAD COME THRU THE FABRIC AND THAT'S WHAT WAS STABBING ME. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER THAT I HAD PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY SAID IT HAPPENED BECAUSE THE FRAME TO THE SEAT HAD BROKE AND GIVE ME A ESTIMATE $856.00 JUST TO FIX THE FRAME AND THAT DON'T INCLUDE THE SEAT THAT THE GEARS AND RIPPED HOLES THRU. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET COMPANY AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALLS ON THE SEAT SO THERE NOT COVERING ANY OF THE COST. I LOOKED ONLINE AND THERE IS A COUPLE HUNDRED OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE DRIVER SEAT IN THE MALIBU MODELS FROM 2004-2010.THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 70 MPH OR I COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT INJURING SEVERAL OTHERS. WHILE DRIVING DOOR LOCKS CONTINUALLY GO UP AND DOWN AND WHILE PARKED DOOR LOCKS OPEN AND CLOSE UNTIL WE TOOK FUSE OUT TO STOP. I WENT TO START THE CAR AND PRESSED THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL, WHEN SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND HAVE NO PARKING BRAKE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEIR DIAGNOSE WAS THAT THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE BROKE BECAUSE THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE LOW, I AM CLAIMING THEM THIS IS A MECHANICAL DEFECT THAT CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, DUE TO A CAR ROLL OVER OR NOT HAVING AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. ON 4-1-2014 OUR RIGHT REAR TIRE WAS EXTREMELY LOW. AT A GAS STATION THE LEAK WAS FOUND NOT FROM THE TIRE, BUT FROM A CRACK IN THE RIM. YOU COULD SEE THE BUBBLES COMING THROUGH THE CRACK UNDER WATER. WE ENDED UP REPLACING THE WHEEL. WE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BUT THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE. ON 12-19-2014 WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME I NOTICED THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CAR MADE A STRANGE SOUND. I STOPPED AT A GAS STATION AND SAW THAT THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WAS VERY LOW. I INFLATED IT, THEN DROVE HOME. THE NEXT MORNING (12-20) THE TIRE WAS VERY LOW AGAIN SO WE INFLATED IT AND TOOK THE CAR TO AMERICAN TIRE IN OCEANSIDE. MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED THAT SINCE THE TREAD WAS GETTING LOW WE WOULD GET A SET OF NEW TIRES. THE NEXT MORNING ONE TIRE WAS VERY LOW AGAIN. WE WENT BACK TO AMERICAN TIRE. THEY FOUND THAT THE LEAK WAS FROM A CRACK IN THE WHEEL. SINCE THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED WE DECIDED TO CONTACT CHEVROLET BECAUSE WE FELT IT WAS A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING. IN THE MEANTIME I HAD AMERICAN TIRE CHECK THE OTHER WHEELS FOR CRACKS. THEY DETERMINED THAT TWO MORE WHEELS HAD CRACKS AND THEY MARKED THE SPOTS ON THE WHEELS. WE SPOKE FIRST WITH CHEVROLET, THEN DEALT WITH [XXX] AT GM FOR MORE THAN 2 WEEKS. SHE ASKED THAT WE TAKE IT TO THE CHEVROLET SERVICE DEPT FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I DID THAT ON JAN. 7. [XXX] AT THE SERVICE DEPT WROTE ON THE REPORT THAT THERE WAS INDEED A CRACK IN THE RIM THAT WAS LEAKING, AND THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE ON THE WHEEL THAT WOULD INDICATE MISUSE. EVEN AFTER THAT CHEVROLET AND GM DECLINED TO ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. [XXX] ALSO TOLD ME THAT HE VISUALLY SAW THE CRACKS ON THE OTHER TWO WHEELS BUT DID NOT SEE A LEAK. HE SAID, HOWEVER, THAT THOSE TWO WHEELS WERE ONLY IN THE WATER 5-10 MIN. I FEEL THAT THESE WHEELS ARE A HAZARD DUE TO ADVICE FROM THE FIRST SERVICE STATION THAT CRACKED WHEELS ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON. THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKE. WHEN BRAKE PEDDLE PRESSED, BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE. *TR
REAR RIGHT DOOR (REAR PASSENGER) LOCK FAILING TO OPEN. STARTED TO RANDOMLY OPEN AND NOW IT'S TOTALLY DEAD. IF THE DOOR FAILS TO OPEN GETTING MY KID OUT OF THE CAR IN AN EMERGENCY CAN BE IMPOSSIBLE EVEN FOR OTHER PASSENGERS SITTING ON THE BACK. THIS NEEDS AN URGENT INVESTIGATION. A LOT OF OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND SURPRISED TO SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS HERE AS WELL REGARDING THE LOCKS/ACTUATORS. THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, CAUSING LOSS OF NORMAL STEERING CONTROL, MAKING THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO STEER. VEHICLE HAD TO BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC AND RESTARTED TO RESET THE FAILURE. LOSS OF STEERING AND ESC. ERROR CODE LATER DETERMINED TO HAVE BEEN CO545 (STEERING TORQUE SENSOR). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE POWER STEERING SERVICE AND ESC WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000.
MY POWER STEERING AND SERVICE ESC LIGHT WOULD COME ON. MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. GM STATED THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR MY ISSUE EVEN THOUGH THERE IS AN RECALL OUT FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
THE POWER STEERING GAVE OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AND REQUIRED SIGNIFICANT FORCE TO TURN THE VEHICLE TO SAFELY GET OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. THIS CREATED A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE AS THE CAR WAS PRACTICALLY UN-DRIVABLE. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED MY GENERAL MOTORS DEALERSHIP AND ASKED IF IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY OR ANY RECALL (SINCE IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE), WHICH THEY RESPONDED IT WAS NOT. TO MY DISMAY, I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT MY LOCAL MECHANIC AT A COST OF $760. WITH THE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED, THE CAR IS WORKING WELL AND THERE ARE NO CURRENT SAFETY CONCERNS. WITHIN A WEEK OF HAVING MY 2009 CHEVY MALIBU REPAIRED (RECEIPT DATED 3/25/14, I READ THAT 2004-2009 CHEVY MALIBUS WERE BEING RECALLED BECAUSE OF A POWER STEERING ISSUE. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ISSUE WAS IDENTICAL TO THE SITUATION I EXPERIENCED WITH OUR 2009 CHEVY MALIBU. I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WITHIN A FEW DAYS AND THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO WAIT A FEW WEEKS FOR THE LETTERS FROM GM TELLING ME OF THE RECALL AND DETAILING HOW TO SEEK REIMBURSEMENT. AFTER WAITING SEVERAL WEEKS WITH NO LETTER, I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, ONLY CERTAIN VINS OF THE 2009 MODEL YEAR WERE RECALLED. I TAKE EXTREME EXCEPTION TO THIS. THE PROBLEM I EXPERIENCED WITH MY 2009 CHEVY MALIBU IS IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED WITHIN THE RECALL. ADDITIONALLY, THE REPAIR COVERED UNDER THE RECALL IS THE EXACT WORK THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE COMPLETED TO MAKE MY VEHICLE SAFELY OPERABLE AGAIN. EITHER GM HAS MADE A MISTAKE BY NOT INCLUDING MY VEHICLE WITHIN THE RECALL, OR THE EXTENT OF THE CURRENT RECALL IS NOT SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO ENCOMPASS ALL 2009 CHEVY MALIBU?S THAT HAVE THE PART(S) THAT LEAD TO AN INCREASED RISK FOR FAILURE AND HENCE, INCREASED RISK OF A CRASH. *JS
I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (APPROX. 75 MPH) THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THE TRACTION CONTROL TO TURN ON AND OFF. THEN SUDDENLY I HAD NO POWER STEERING. THIS HAPPENED TO ME AT NIGHT AND SUDDENLY, WITH OUR ANY WARNING. IT IS CONCERNING TO ME THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED! I FOUND IT TO BE EXTREMELY CHALLENGING NOT TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR SINCE I HAD BEEN TRAVELING COMFORTABLY AT 75MPH, THEN SUDDENLY HAD NO POWER STEERING. I CANNOT STRESS THE DANGER OF THIS OCCURRENCE AND THE POSSIBLE UNFORTUNATE OUTCOME HAD MY WIFE BEEN DRIVING WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR. WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROX. 75 MPH. (CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET), WITHOUT WARNING, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. OVER A PERIOD OF APPROX. 30 SECONDS, THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT FLASHED AND ALL POWER STEERING WAS LOST. HE MANAGED TO SLOW THE CAR AND SAFELY GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE EPS MESSAGE WAS ALSO FLASHING ACROSS THE ACROSS THE ODOMETER. WE MONITORED THE NHTSA COMPLAINTS SINCE THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS BEING FILED REGARDING OTHER CONSUMERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME MECHANICAL FAILURE. WE WAITED UNTIL 03/27/2014 TO HAVE THE REPAIRS PERFORMED, WHICH CONSISTED OF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR. GM THEN ISSUED A RECALL ON 03/31/2014 TO INCLUDE SELECT 2009 CHEVY MALIBU'S. HOWEVER, WHEN I CONTACTED GM, I WAS TOLD MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND I WILL NOT SUBJECT TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY REPAIRS (TOTALING $773.62). I SPOKE WITH NUMEROUS REPRESENTATIVES AT GM, AND WAS TOLD BY EACH OF THEM, THAT THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR SELECT VEHICLES AND DESPITE MY CLAIM THAT MY CAR EXPERIENCED THE EXACT MECHANICAL FAILURE AS LISTED IN THE RECALL, MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED AND ANY CLAIM I SUBMIT WILL BE DENIED. I AM APPLAUDED THAT DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN INSTALLED IN MY CAR (WHICH HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN TWO OTHER GM RECALLS SUCH AS THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THE SHIFT LEVER INDICATOR) AND GM IS REFUSING RESOLVE THIS SITUATION. I AM TURNING TO NHTSA FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION SO ALL CONSUMERS AFFECTED, INCLUDING MYSELF, BE PROPERLY REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE INCURRED TO CORRECT GM'S ALREADY PROVEN DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT. WHILE DRIVING THE ELEC. STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT DUE TO THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR GIVING OUT. BUT THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL HAPPENING..I TOOK IT BACK AND THEY SAID IT WAS JUST SOME WATER LEAKING ON THE ELECTRICAL WIRING AND WOULD NEED REPLACED. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY AT THE TIME BUT DID TAKE IT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE HE ALSO PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO WATER LEAKAGE. I HAVE ANOTHER INCIDENT THE OTHER DAY WHERE I LOST POWER AND ALMOST GOT IN AN ACCIDENT. MY TACTION GOT DISABLED AS WELL. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT AT KENNY ROSS IN IRWIN TO TAKE IT BACK SO THEY CAN LOOK AT IT AGAIN, BUT I DON'T TRUST THEM. THE CAR WAS BOUGHT WITH LOW MILEAGE AND I GO NO WHERE AS I WORK FROM HOME, STILL HAS LOW MILEAGE..I SHOULD NOT BE HAVING PROBLEMS. THOUGHT IT MIGHT NEED POWER STEERING FLUID AND WAS TOLD MY MODEL DIDN'T USE FLUID - IT WAS ALL ELECTRICAL IN THE STEERING COLUMN. SINCE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY I TOOK IT THE NEXT DAY TO THE CHEVY DEALER WHO SOLD IT TO ME AND WAS TOLD IT WASN'T COVERED AT A COST OF OVER $600. *JS

THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,720.
WHILE DRIVING AT 10MPH AFTER MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN MY CURTAIN SIDE AIRBAG ON THE DRIVERS SIDE DEPLOYED. THERE WERE LUCKILY NO INJURIES. THE CAR FILLED WITH SMOKE, AND MY EAR WAS RINGING FOR 1 WEEK. MY HIP WAS SORE FOR A FEW DAYS FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT AIRBAG THAT DEPLOYED ALSO. THE ROAD WAS CLEAR, NO POT HOLES, NO RAIN. SNOW OR ICE. IT WAS A RESIDENTIAL STREET. AFTER SUPPOSEDLY INVESTIGATING GM HAS NOT DISCOVERED ANY MECHANICAL REASON FOR THE DEPLOYMENT. THEY RETRIEVED ALL THE INFORMATION FROM THE SDM AND HAVE STATED THAT THEY WANT TO PURCHASE MY VEHICLE BACK TO RESEARCH FURTHER. I AM CURRENTLY USING A LOANER CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP NEAR MY HOME. GM HAS STILL NOT OFFERED ME A GOOD ENOUGH SETTLEMENT FOR ME TO PURCHASE A NEW CAR. *JS

FOR THE LAST YEAR OR SO I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY BRAKE LIGHTS INGAGING AND MY CRUISE CONTROL INOPERABLE. I CURRENTLY HAVE A 2009 MALIBU. A FRIEND WAS DRIVING BEHIND ME ONCE AND MENTIONED LATER THAT I WAS RIDING MY BRAKES ALL THE WAY HOME. I WAS NOT.
