THE STEERING COLUMN HAS A SENSOR THAT GOES OUT AND REMOVES POWER STEERING. THEY RECALLED SOME OF MY YEAR AND MODEL BUT MY VIN IS NOT ON THE LIST. IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED SINCE IT IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
MY CAR LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON SOMETIMES POWER STEERING COMES BACK, SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T. IF IT DOES COME BACK NOW MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES VIOLENTLY AND IF I'M DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY I CAN FEEL IT PULLING ME SIDE TO SIDE AS IT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH ON ITS OWN.
RECENTLY BOUGHT A MALIBU 2009 ,4 CYLINDER. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR THE STEERING WHEEL WAS SHAKY AS I DROVE THE CAR. AFTER A 4 DAYS OF PURCHASE I WENT ON THE FREEWAY AND THE SERVICE ESC / POWER STEERING CAME ON THE DASH BOARD . I EXITED THE FREEWAY WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN IT WAS DIFFICULT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL . I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON THE CAR WAS AGAIN DRIVABLE BUT AFTER ABOUT 5 MINS THE CAR DID THE SAME THING AGAIN AND I COULD NOT MANAGE TO STEER THE WHEEL TO MAKE LEFT OR RIGHT TURNS. *TR
TRANSMISSION WON'T GO IN REVERSE WHEN STEPPING ON THE GAS PEDAL. ALSO, POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT WHEN FIRST STARTING CAR. VEHICLE WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED.
POWER STEERING SERVICE ECS LIGHT LOSS OF POWER SHUT THE STEERING ON MID ROAD VERY DANGEROUS IT'S A SHAME WE DON'T HAVE A RECALL YET AND I READ OVER 100 COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME PROBLEMS ON THESE CARS MOST ON THE 2009 CHEVY MALIBU
POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING. POWER STEERING SERVICE ESC OFF ON DASH. DASH WARNINGS LIGHT UP PERIODICALLY. SIMULTANEOUSLY ALL DIALS GO DOWN TO 0 EVEN WHEN MOVING. RADIO HAS NO POWER. MANUAL STEERING ALL THE TIME.
I JUST GOT MY CAR FIXED AND INSPECTED A FEW WEEKS AGO $1000 AND NO SENSORS WERE ON THEN THE POWER STEERING STOPPED AND I COULDN'T BARELY MOVE THE VEHICLE. MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR AND I WAS DRIVING HER TO SCHOOL PULLED OVER AND WAS SCARED BECAUSE I HAVE A HERNIATED DISC IN MY NECK AND COULDN'T TURN THE WHEEL. I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2017 AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT. THEN CONTACTED A CHEVROLET DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE SPECIAL COVERAGE WAS 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES WHICH EVER COMES FIRST AND MY CAR DID NOT QUALIFY. HOW CAN I GET A CAR FIXED ON A RECALL THAT WAS MADE IN 2014 AND I DIDNT GET IT TILL 2017. ALSO MY VIN# DOES NOT POP UP FOR RECALLS. JUST BLOWS MY MIND. TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SHOP WERE I GOT IT FIXED AND HE GAVE ME A COPY OF THE BULLETIN. SEE ATTACHED
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN,POWER STEERING GOT HARD TO TURN,LIGHTS CAME ON WARNING OF POWER STEERING.
ON 28 FEBRUARY 2020, MY 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING AS A RESULT OF A LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKE PRESSURE DUE TO CORROSION-INDUCED FAILURE OF BOTH THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES THAT SUPPLY BRAKE FLUID FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER TO THE BRAKE PRESSURE MODULATION VALVE (BPMV), WHICH WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED BUT FOR A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES. BOTH HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES FAILED WITHIN AN HOUR OF ONE ANOTHER AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 50 MILES, FORTUNATELY WITHOUT RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. EACH OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES HAD FAILED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THESE PIPES WERE NOT NYLON COATED AS WERE THE REMAINING BRAKE LINES IN THE VEHICE, AND EACH EXTENDED DOWNWARDS ABOUT 8 INCHES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER, TO A CORRESPONDING ELBOW DEFINING A CORRESPONDING LOW POINT, FROM WHICH EACH LINE EXTENDED UPWARDS ' VIA A FLEXIBLE LINK PORTION ' TO THE BPMV. THE ELBOWS ' BEING LOCATED ABOUT 8 INCHES BELOW THE MASTER CYLINDER ' ARE IN PROXIMITY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE BODY, AND ARE THEREFORE EXPOSED TO ROAD SPLASH, INCLUDE SALT SPRAY DURING WINTER MONTHS. WITH THE ELBOWS DEFINING LOW POINTS OF THE ASSOCIATED HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES, ANY WATER OR SALT-WATER SPRAYED ONTO THOSE PIPES WILL GRAVITATE, AND THEN CLING, TO THOSE ELBOWS UNTIL BEING EVAPORATED THEREFROM, LEADING TO CORROSION THEREOF AT A SUBSTANTIALLY ACCELERATED RATE RELATIVE TO WHAT WOULD OCCUR IF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE PIPES DID NOT EXTEND BELOW ' OR AT LEAST SO FAR BELOW ' THE MASTER CYLINDER; OR IF AT LEAST THE ELBOWS HAD BEEN OTHERWISE COATED WITH NYLON AS ARE ALL THE REMAINING STEEL HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES FROM THE BPMV TO THE WHEEL CYLINDERS.
2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO LOSS OF HYDRAULIC BRAKING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING FAILURE WAS DUE TO CORROSION OF THE PRIMARY AND SECONDARY PIPES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY THE OWNER. *JS
WHILE DRIVING MY POWER STEERING DISABLED AND MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE CAR THEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN. THEN IT CUT OFF AND LOCKED UP AGAIN.
LOCKED WHILE DRIVING. (IN MOTION) - THOUGHT WAS A FLUKE THING NOW WHEN ATTEMPT TO START THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP PRIOR TO STARTING - (STATIONARY) WHEN STARTED THE STEERING SHAKES VIGOROUSLY - (STATIONARY)
THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENS UP WHILE DRIVING CANNOT TURN STEERING WHEEL
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY AT START-UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO GEAR WHEN COLD STARTING THE VEHICLE. ADDITIONALLY, THE POWER STEERING CEASED AT START UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON WOULD FIX THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,500.
POST RECALL REPAIR FOR BREAKLIGHTS, BREAK LIGHTS STAY ILLUMINATED WHEN NOT PRESSING THE BREAK PEDAL. 3RD BREAK LIGHT DOESN'T ALWAYS TURN ON. RANDOM EPISODES OF CAR SPUTTERING AND THEN DASH WARNINGS INCLUDING: SERVICE ESC, SERVICE TRACTION, SERVICE HILL START. HEAD LAMPS REQUIRING REPLACEMENT EVERY 3 TO 6MONTHS.
SAME ISSUE AS EVERYBODY ELSE. I LOSE STEERING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE POWER STEERING. MY STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP AND IM ANYBODY TO TURN THE CAR. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD PARKED OR PRETTY MUCH AT ANYTIME. WHEN IT DOES WORK MY STEERING WHEEL JERKS. WHILE DRIVING IT JERKS AS WELL VERY SCARY STUFF. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE ESC AND POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON. THIS WAS SPECIAL TYPE OF RECALL WITH A EXP DATE? REALLY SO YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE DRIVING YOUR CAR FOR 5 YEARS? AFTER THAT WHO CARES IF THEY DIE HUH.
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE YESTERDAY AND STARTED FEELING SMALL JERKS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. LIKE SOMETHING ON THE OTHER SIDE JERKING IT IN MY HAND. NOT ENOUGH TO MOVE THE CAR JUST IN MY HAND. NOW TODAY GO OUTSIDE, CRANK IT AND STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT MOVE. THE ESC AND POWER STEERING INDICATORS CAME ON.
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED, STEERING INTERMITTENTLY STOPS WORKING, AND ESC POPS UP ON INFO SYSTEM, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE. WHEN I TURN VEHICLE OFF AND ON AGAIN STEERING WORKS AGAIN, FOR INDETERMINATE AMOUNT OF TIME.
WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON FRIDAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND I ALMOST ENDED UP IN A FIELD, COULD NOT TURN IT. STOPPED AND TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND IT WENT BACK TO NORMAL, AND IT WENT OUT AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO THE DRIVE. THE NEXT DAY I STARTED CAR UP AND IT HAD ITS WARNINGS ACROSS MY DASH AND THE STEERING WAS OUT AGAIN. I JUST PICKED IT UP FROM THE SHOP AND IT COST ME $1562.00 TO GET IT REPAIRED. THE STEERING ASSIST MOTOR, A NEW STEERING COLUMN(ELECTRIC) AND R&R STEERING COLUMN W/SGL SWITCH AND NEW TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. IT'S ALL CONNECTED. I HAVE YET TO FIND A RECALL FOR MY CAR ON MY VIN NUMBER BUT YET THERE WERE A FEW RECALLS ON MANY CARS INCLUDING MY 2009 MALIBU FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT YET I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING IN THE MAIL ABOUT IT. I HOPE THAT THEY INTEND ON DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED WHILE TRYING TO TAKE A CURVE AND HAD TO STRUGGLE JUST TO KEEP IT ON THE ROAD IN THE OTHER PERSONS LANE UNTIL I COULD GET PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE WAY. FROM READING ALL THAT I HAVE READ ON HERE IT SEEMS THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THE ISSUE.

ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED ABNORMALLY WHILE THE ESC WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED EAGLE CHEVROLET BUICK GMC (329 E W MAIN ST, MOREHEAD, KY 40351 (606) 784-6411) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,498.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. SEVERAL DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DIVER CHEVROLET (2101 PENNSYLVANIA AVE, WILMINGTON, DE 19806) WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN UNSTATED POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
There is a clicking noise in the steering wheel column while it jerks both left and right while driving. Happening every time it is driven hard to turn steering wheel both left and right.
DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST POWER STEERING ASSIST
THE ESC SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE NO POWER STEERING. WHEN I START THE CAR THE WHEEL SHAKES AND EVENTUALLY CAUSES THE LIGHT TO COME ON AND POWER STEERING TURNS OFF. THIS IS A KNOWN RECALL ISSUE ISSUE BUT FOR SOME REASON MY CAR WASN'T INCLUDED.THIS ISSUE HAPPENS IN THE DRIVE WAY, AT A STOP SIGN, ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE IS NO TELLING WHEN IT WILL BE GOING OUT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A FEW WEEKS NOW.
AT TIMES WHEN I START THE CAR, THERE'S A LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING. THE DASHBOARD WILL SAY "POWER STEERING" AND "ESC." THERE ALREADY IS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL AND YEAR THAT IS THE EXACT PROBLEM I'M HAVING. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000. HOWEVER, MY VIN NUMBER ISN'T TAGGED BY IT.
MY VEHICLE IS HAVING EXACT SYMPTOMS AS OTHER VEHICLES IN THE SAME YEAR RANGE WITH THE EXACT ENGINE SIZE AND POWER TRAIN. I HAVE A 4 - CYL ECO TEC ENGINE AND I HAVE FOUND THAT GM RECALLED LOTS OF UNITS FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM YET MINE IS NOT IN THE DATABASE. MY ELECTROINC STEERING SHUTS ON AND OFF ALL WINTER!
MY VEHICLE HAS LOST STEERING AFTER STARTING SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE LAST WEEK. MY INFO SCREEN DISPLAYS AN ESC AND POWER STEERING MESSAGE AND MY STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED IN PLACE. ONCE THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE MESSAGES GO AWAY AND STEERING IS BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE FOUND A RECALL RELATED TO THIS ON CERTAIN VEHICLES OF MY YEAR/MAKE/MODEL AND ALSO MANY FORUMS OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. HOWEVER, WHEN SEARCHING BY VIN IT SAYS MY VEHICLE HAS 0 RECALLS. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED WHEN MY VEHICLE IS STOPPED, OR IN PARK MY STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE FOR A MOMENT AND THEN STOP.
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING, AND I WAS IN DANGER OF CRASHING THE VEHICLE. THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP SAYS ITS A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN TORQUE SENSOR, AND THAT GM HAD A MILLION CAR RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. HOWEVER, THEY STATED THIS SAFETY CONCERN HAD AN EXPIRATION DATE AND FOR MY VEHICLE, IT EXPIRED MAY 2019. IT APPEARS TO BE HAVING EXACTLY THE SAME SYMPTOMS, WITH THE SAME DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES, AS THOSE RECALLED VEHICLES, AND YET GM WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS SAFETY MATTER. THIS CONDITION OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, AND THEN ALL OF THE TIME. IT OCCURS WHEN IN REVERSE, AND FORWARD GEARS, WHEN TURNING AND WHEN TRAVELING STRAIGHT. IT OCCURS AT ALL SPEEDS. AGAIN, THE GM MECHANICS STATE THE PROBLEM IS THE STEERING COLUMN TORQUE SENSOR.
POWER STEERING GOES OUT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND SERVICE ESC MESSAGE COMES ACROSS THE MESSAGE CENTER. TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE LIGHT GOES OUT, POWER STEERING COMES BACK FOR A SECOND THEN THE LIGHT TRIPS AGAIN AND IT'S OUT AGAIN. I HAVE LOST POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AND ALSO WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THIS CAR. IF I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AND I LOOSING POWER STEERING, I HAVE TO SLOW DOWN AND PULL OVER TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND HOPE THAT POWER STEERING TURNS BACK ON.

MY ELECTRIC POWER STEERING JUST WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING AND MY ANTI LOCK BREAK LIGHTS CAME ON, AFTER RESEARCHING THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN 09'S IN VERY DANGEROUS, THERE WERE RECALLS ON THIS BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS SAYING MY CAR IS NOT INCLUDED, I FIND THAT HARD TO BELIEVE.

THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.

THE STEERING STARTED JERKING, ABOUT A WEEK LATER I HAD NO POWER STEERING. SERVICE ESC IS ON THE DASH ALONG WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT.
DRIVING AND ESC COMES ON AND POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF. PULLED TO SAFE PLACE, WHICH WAS HARD WITHOUT POWER... AND TURNED CAR OFF BUT IT HAPPENED AGAIN SHORTLY THERE AFTER.
INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH POWER STEERING FAILURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING. SO FAR, IF I SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN AND RESTART, THE POWER STEERING WORKS AGAIN. BUT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE I FEEL A SLIGHT TUGGING TO THE RIGHT ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE TUGGING ALSO HAPPENS WHEN STOPPED IF I SLIGHTLY TURN THE WHEEL.
TURNING RIGHT ONTO HIGHWAY WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY. ENDED UP IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED. AFTER 24 HOURS THE POWER STEERING WAS BACK ON....PASSENGER HEADLIGHT HAS BEEN CHANGED 4 TIMES IN 2 YEARS AND OUT AGAIN. BULB CONNECTOR WAS CHANGED AND HARNESS WAS CHANGED.
WHEN DRIVING MY VEHICAL ALL OF A SUDDEN THE LOWER STEARING WENT OUT AND ALL THESE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON. IT'S SUPER HARD TO STEER I HAVE 3 KIDS THAT RIDE IN THIS CAR EVERYDAY AND IT'S VERY DANGEROUS. ALSO MY HEADLIGHT DRIVERS SIDE HAS GONE OUT 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS AND ITS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX!
THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) ON MY 2009 CHEVY MALIBU SHORTED OUT.. CHEVY ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR, MAKE ON THE HYBRID MODEL. I HAVE NO HEAT NO DEFROSTING NO CLIMATE CONTROLS WORK AT ALL.. ALL THE FUSES AND RELAYS ARE IN GOOD WORKING CONDITION.
MY DASH LIGHTS UP POWER STEERING SERVICE ESC ANDY POWER STEERING GOES COMPLETELY OUT OF MY CAR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. I HAVE CHILDREN AND IT'S REALLY HARD TO EVEN TURN THE WHEEL.
THE SERVICE ESC LIGHT COMES ON AND THE LOW TRACTION LIGHT(CAR ICON) COMES ON AND I LOSE POWER STEERING. WHEN I START THE CAR THESE SENSORS COME ON AND I LOSE POWER STEERING. SOMETIMES I'LL START IT AND THE SENSORS ARE OFF THEN I HAVE POWER STEERING THEN I'LL START DRIVING AND SOMETHING TRIPS THOSE SENSORS TO COME ON AND I LOSE POWER STEERING. THIS STARRED IN JANUARY 2020.
POWER STEERING HAS QUIT WORKING UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING.. ELECTRONIC TRACTION CONTROL HAS QUIT WORKING ALSO AT THE SAME TIME.
ESC TURNS OFF AND ON BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING. SERVICE POWER STEERING LIGHT COMES ON AND THE WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN I HAVE TO KILL THE CAR AND RESTART IT TO GET IT TO START WORKING AGAIN. WHEN I PRESS MY BREAKS THE CAR JERKS AND THE ESC ACVTIVE LIGHT COMES ON. THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT GOES IN AND OUT BY ITSELF I'VE REPLACED THE BULB BUT IT SEEMS TO BE A WIRING ISSUE.
WHILE SITTING IDLE MY STEERING WHEEL SHAKES ERRATICALLY. SOMETIMES WHEN I START THE CAR THE SERVICE ESC AND POWER STEERING SHOWS ON MY DASH, WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN IT WILL NOT APPEAR AGAIN AND THE STEERING IS BACK. THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHILE DRIVING IF I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SLIGHTLY TO ONE SIDE IT STOPS. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHEN IT IS VERY COLD OUT.
VEHICLE POWER STEERING WILL STOP WORKING RANDOMLY. TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK. THE BEHAVIOR LINES UP WITH RECALL: 14V153000 HOWEVER, VIN IS NOT COVERED POSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES.
I HAVE REPLACED 2 LOW BEAM FRONT HEADLIGHTS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THIS VEHICLE ALREADY. I'VE RESEARCHED THIS AND IT SEEMS THAT ALL THESE CARS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.LOW BEAM BULB KEEPS GOING OUT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. AS THERE IS NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE YET EVERY MALIBU HAS THE SAME PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING AND IN MOTION THE VEHICLE BACK IN JANUARY I WOULD LOSE ALL STEERING CONTROL, THE EPS LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I WORK 45 MILES FROM HOME AND MOST OF THAT IS HIGHWAY. I HAD TO SLIP THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, TURN IT OFF THEN BACK ON TO GET IT TO KICK BACK IN 5 TIMES BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT HOME. STOPPING IN THE MAIN HIGHWAY WAS NOT AN OPTION AS IT WAS DARK AND NOT SAFE. I NEARLY RAN INTO A MEDIUM BARRIER AND HAD TO STOP ALL TRAFFIC BEHIND GOING 65 MPH OR MORE. THE CAR IS STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. NOT SAFE - THANK GOD MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS NOT IN THE CARE WITH ME. WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR ON NOW THERE IS NO STEERING AND THE ESP LIGHT IS STILL ON. TO COSTLY TO REPAIR. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY CHEVY MALIBU 2009, 2.4 LITER ENGINE. THE CAR CAN BE TURNED ON AND THE POWER STEERING WILL SHUT OFF AND I AM UNABLE TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN DRIVING. THE SENSOR WILL PICK UP AN ERROR AND IT WILL DISPLAY 'POWER STEERING' ON THE DASH. THEN I WILL TURN THE CAR OFF AND THE POWER STEERING WILL TURN BACK ON. TURNING WHEN THE POWER STEERING IS STILL WORKING CAUSES IT TO HAVE A WEIRD TWITCH OR JERK WHEN DRIVING WHERE IT MOVES THE STEERING WHEEL BY ITSELF WHEN TURNING AND DRIVING STRAIGHT. GM HAD A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE WITH MY EXACT MODEL BUT I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO HELP ME AND THAT MY CAR WASN'T ON THE RECALL BULLETIN YET MY CAR IS THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR THAT ON THE BULLETIN HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. IT IS ALSO NOT ME, I SEE OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT GM IS NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS ISSUE. I JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND IT HAS 160,000 MILES ON IT. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BECAUSE POWER STEERING IS ESSENTIAL TO DRIVER SAFETY. THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE AT ANYTIME THE POWER STEERING DECIDES TO JUST SHUT ITSELF OFF.
OCCASIONALLY, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WILL NOT INITIATE / FUNCTION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. I WOULD TURN OFF THE IGNITION THEN RESTART THE ENGINE THEN THE POWER STEERING WOULD FUNCTION. ON JANUARY 9, 2020 WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY TO RESTART THE ENGINE HOPING THAT IT WOULD REBOOT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BUT I COULD NOT GET IT TO WORK EVEN AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. I DROVE THE CAR HOME WITHOUT POWER STEERING, WHICH TOOK CONSIDERABLE EFFORT. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WAS NOT VERY DIFFICULT BUT NEGOTIATING TURNS WAS QUITE HARD. I'M NOT SURE MY WIFE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT. I CHECKED FOR RECALLS FOR MY VIN NUMBER BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT THERE ARE ZERO RECALLS FOR THAT VIN. HOWEVER, THERE ARE OVER 1.3 MILLION RECALLS FOR THE SAME SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING (EVEN ON THE SAME MODEL YEAR OF MALIBU AS MINE.) RECALL NUMBER N140115 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V153000
