I AM A PHYSICIAN AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE NEW IN JULY, 2010. MY SON IS CURRENTLY DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN MICHIGAN WHILE ATTENDING MEDICAL SCHOOL. FOR THE PAST 5 MONTHS HE HAVE EXPERIENCED DISABLING OF THE CRASH AVOIDANCE FEATURES INCLUDING THE TRACTION CONTROL AND THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WITH THE APPROPRIATE LIGHTS ON AND OFF ON THE DASH. THESE ARE ALL COMPATIBLE WITH RECALL NUMBER 13036 OF THIS CHEVROLET MALIBU AND HE CALLED MATTHEWS-HARGEAVES CHEVROLET IN ROYAL OAK, MI AND THEY TOLD HIM HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $100 FOR THEM TO LOOK UP THE RECALL SO I DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE IN AT THAT TIME. HE ALSO HAD THE RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT LIGHT WHICH WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND THEY GAVE HIM THE SAME ANSWER. DURING THE PAST 10 DAYS THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN MALFUNCTIONING GOING ON WHEN NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES AND GOING OFF WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. HE WAS NOTIFIED BY TWO OTHER DRIVERS AND NOTICED IT IN THE GARAGE AND THEN HAD THE POLICE CHECK THEM. HE WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAVE FLOWN UP TO DETROIT AND WILL TAKE THE VEHICLE TO MATTHEWS-HARGREAVES MYSELF TO HAVE THIS FIXED. I HAVE THE RECALL FOR THE SEAT BELT WHICH IS NOT FIXED BUT WHEN I PUT UP THE VIN NUMBER IT NOW SHOWS NO RECALLS AND THAT CANNOT BE CORRECT. I NOW HAVE THE BODY CONTROL MODULE PROBLEM (RECALL NUMBER 13036) BUT IF STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING FURTHER FROM CHEVROLET AND THE DEALER IS DEMANDING $100 JUST TO CHECK. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT AND AM SEEKING YOUR ASSISTANCE SINCE THIS VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THESE EVENTS HAVE HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. *TR
DRIVER DOOR WON'T OPEN. RIGHT BEFORE IT WOULDN'T OPEN, THE DOOR WOULDN'T CLOSE. IT WOULD JUST BOUNCE OPEN. GOT THE DOOR TO FINALLY CLOSE AND NOW IT WON'T OPEN. TRIED UNLOCKING AND LOCKING IT AND NOTHING. SEEN LOTS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING AND HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR MALIBUS. *TR
I TOOK MY CAR TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE CAR WAS SUDDENLY LOSING POWER WHEN ACCELERATING AND THE REVERSE GEAR WOULD, AT TIMES, FAIL TO ENGAGE. THE LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED AT SPEEDS ABOVE 20 MPH. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TRANSMISSION'S 3-5-REVERSE GEAR. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. IN 2015 GM ISSUED A SPECIAL POLICY (BULLETIN NO. 14404, DATED MARCH 2015) FOR THE 2007 TO 2009 CHEVY MALIBU (6 SPEED MODEL) THAT COVERS THE 3-5-REVERSE WAVE PLATE REPAIR FOR 10 YEARS OR 120,000 MILES. ALSO, I NOTICED ON THE DIAGNOSTIC SHEET THAT THE DEALERSHIP OMITTED THE PRODUCTION DATE OF THE VEHICLE BUT IT WAS OBVIOUSLY MANUFACTURED IN 2009. THE 'IN-SERVICE DATE' IS 12/15/09. BASED ON THE SITUATION I HAVE EXPERIENCED WITH MY CAR, THEY DID NOT FIX THIS DEFECT WHEN THEY INTRODUCED THE 2010 MODEL. I EXPLAINED THE ABOVE CIRCUMSTANCES TO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND ALSO TO THEIR CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE BUT THEY REFUSE TO COVER THE REPAIRS FOR THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. PLEASE HELP.
MY 2010 MALIBU LT, HAD THE 13036 RECALL 11/03/2014 AFTER I RECEIVED THE NOTICE FROM GM. THERE WERE NO MALFUNCTIONS AT THAT TIME. NOW AS I SPEAK, THE BRAKE LIGHTS COMES ON WITHOUT ME HITTING THE BRAKE PEDDLE AND THEY ALL GO OFF WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES, WHEN I TALKED TO THE DEALER THEY RECOMMEND I BRING IT IN AND THEY WILL TRY TO FIND OUT WHAT IS CAUSING THIS. PRICE RANGE $500.00-$1250.00. NOW IF YOU LOOK ON ANY GM FORUM PAGE OR JUST GOOGLE THE SITUATION THAT I AM HAVING, YOU WILL FIND THOUSANDS OF THE SAME PROBLEM. IT LOOKS LIKE GM DOES NOT HAVE SAFETY IN MIND AFTER YOU PURCHASE THEIR VEHICLES! THE 13036 RECALL HAS BEEN REVISED SEVERAL TIMES, SO IF YOU HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED IN THE EARLY STAGES, THEY NOTE YOUR VEHICLE AS COMPLETED AND SEND YOU ON YOUR WAY. I CAN NOT DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE- THAT SUCKS!!!!! I CONTACTED GM, BY EMAIL AND ALSO LEFT A MESSAGE LAST YEAR WHEN THE SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING MESSAGE STARTED. I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM GM. STILL NO SAFETY RECALL!!!!
I WAS NOTIFIED BY MY OLDEST DAUGHTER THAT THE STEERING WHEEL IN HER CAR WOULD NOT TURN AND THAT SHE WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET, SHE WAS IN MOTION AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT, SHE AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE WERE ABLE TO PUSH THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I INSTRUCTED HER TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THAT I WOULD HAVE IT TOWED TO THE SERVICE STATION THAT IT WAS PURCHASED FROM. WHAT SHE EXPLAINED TO ME IS EXACTLY WHAT IS BEING DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V153000 DATED MARCH 31, 2014.
PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WON'T OPEN.THE LATCH GOES UP AND DOWN BUT THE DOOR WON'T OPEN, EVEN IF I TRY TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE OR INSIDE THE CAR THE DOOR WON'T OPEN. THIS PROBLEM ALSO OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR.
THE VEHICLE LOST ENGINE POWER AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 15 MINUTES, THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH, REDUCED POWER MESSAGES, SERVICE ESC, AND SERVICE TRACTION MESSAGES APPEARED. VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT IT "WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE IT COULD ACCELERATE WITHOUT A FOOT ON THE GAS."
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND I HAD TO STOP TO GET GAS. EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I PULLED AWAY FORM THE PUMP AND PROCEEDED TO THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN I LEFT THE PARKING LOT TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I WAS DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT WAS ON, ESC MESSAGE, AND SERVICE POWER STEERING SYSTEM WERE ACTIVATED. I DROVE BACK HOME AND WENT TO WORK IN MY OTHER VEHICLE. 162,409 MILES. I PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW IN FEBRUARY 2010. ALL OIL CHANGES AND TIRE ROTATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AT A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. I'VE ONLY PURCHASED TIRES, TWO BATTERIES, AND WINDSHIELD WIPERS FOR MY CAR UNTIL LAST WEEK. THAT WAS THE ENGINE COOLANT SENSOR. UNTIL NOW I ALWAYS BRAGGED AND SAID THAT MY MALIBU WAS THE BEST CAR EVER BECAUSE I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH IT.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN SEPTEMBER 2016 AND NOT MORE THAN TWO DAYS OF OWNING IT MY ESC LIGHTS DISABLED AND MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE STUCK ON, I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED THE BREAK PEDAL SENSOR, AND THE LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN, I BROUGHT IT IN AGAIN AND THEY ONCE AGAIN REPLACED THE SENSOR, THIS PROBLEM HAS YET TO BE FIXED ALMOST TWO YEARS LATER, THE ESC CONSTANTLY DISABLES AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON AND STAY STUCK I AM LUCKY I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM HAVE FAILED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR A PROBLEM THAT THEY NEVER ACTUALLY FIXED. I WILL BE DRIVING AND MY CHECK TRACTION LIGHT WILL COME ON AND MY ESC LIGHT WILL SAY OFF. YOU CAN SEE BY THE ATTACHED DOCUMENT I ORIGINALLY REPORTED THIS PROBLEM ON 9/26/2016, I PURCHASED THE CAR SEPTEMBER 24, 2016... TWO DAYS LATER AND THIS ISSUE STARTED OCCURRING AND NOW TWO YEARS LATER AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED.
I GET THE SERVICE ESC ALERT AND WHEN I BRAKE, MY BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T LIGHT UP BUT WHEN I'M NOT BRAKING, THEY DO NOT LIGHT UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS OFF AND ON
FRONT DOOR LOCKS MECHANISM SEIZES PREVENTING THEM FROM OPENING EITHER FROM INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, OCCUPANTS WILL BE TRAPPED. I HAD TO CHANGE BOTH FRONT DOORS AT 5 YEARS OF LIFE AND THEN AGAIN AT 8 (DRIVERS). BOTH TIMES ORIGINAL OEM PARTS. INVOICES ARE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST.
THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL RANDOMLY STAY LOCKED EVEN WHEN ITS NOT LOCKED. THIS IS A SAFTEY HAZARD. YOU CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE INSIDE OR OUTSIDE. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE LOCK ACTUATOR.
ISSUE STARTED 08/27/16 WHILE 19 YEAR OLD WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT. AS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS COMPRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. WHILE DRIVING THEY ARE ON. SERVICE TRACTION AND ESC WARNINGS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND HAVE BEEN ADVISED THERE IS NOT AN OPEN RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE. A CASE HAS BEEN OPENED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE ALMOST BEEN REAR ENDED SEVERAL TIMES DUE TO THIS ISSUE. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED FOR INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE 09/01/16 AT MILLER AND SONS CHEVROLET. THEY HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE ISSUE. I HAVE A SUSPICION THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE ON A PREVIOUS RECALL (14V252000) AFTER SEEING SOME RECENT COMPLAINTS FROM THOSE WHOM HAVE HAD THE ISSUE FIXED THE FIRST TIME. THIS IS THE 5 TIME IN 2 MONTHS I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE IN THE SHOP. ONCE FOR INTAKE AND EXHAUST SOLENOID REPLACEMENT. "TAPPING NOISES" THESE ULTIMATELY LED TO A TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT OF WHICH GM COVERED 800.00. I HAD TO PAY 600.00. IN ALL I HAVE SPENT OVER 900.00 ON THIS VEHICLE FOR REPAIRS WHICH I FEEL SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER OTHER VEHICLE RECALLS. EITHER FIX THE EXISTING PROBLEMS OR TAKE THE VEHICLE OFF THE MARKET AND BUY BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
ON AUGUST 21, 2016 I PLACE MY CAR IN REVERSE TO BACK UP OUT OF A PARKING SPACE IN A RESIDENTIAL PARKING LOT. THEN I ATTEMPTED TO PLACE MY CAR INTO DRIVE TO PULL OFF AND THE GEAR SHIFT MOVED BUT MY CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. SO IMMEDIATELY STEPPED ON MY EMERGENCY BRAKES SO THE CAR WOULD STOP. I LOOK AT MY GEAR SHIFT AND SAW IT WAS STILL IN REVERSE. I PLAYED WITH THE GEARS MOVING THE LEVEL BACK AND FORTH BUT THE CAR REMAIN IN REVERSE SO I TURNED MY CAR OFF. WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON, MY CAR WOULDN'T START. NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO BUT GUESSING IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE GEAR SHIFT, WITH THE HELP OF SOME CITIZENS WE TRIED TO PUSH THE CAR BACK INTO A PARKING SPACE. I THEN CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO COME TOW MY TRUCK TO THE CLOSEST CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP, LUCKY ME WAS ONLY 23 MILES AWAY. I HAD A FRIEND COME PICK ME UP AND TAKE ME HOME WHERE I WENT ONLINE AND BEGAN DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THIS PART. THAT'S WHEN I CAME ACROSS THE RECALL REF THIS PART . UNKNOWN TO ME BECAUSE I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER. THE NEXT DAY THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME AND ADVISE ME THAT MY TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. THEY STATED THEY DIDN'T SHOW ANY RECALLS ON MY VIN NO#,SO THE COST WAS MY RESPONSIBILITY. I CALLED THE NHTSA INQUIRING ABOUT EVERYTHING RELATING TO RECALL. THEY COULD ONLY CONFIRM THERE IS A RECALL BUT MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. CURRENTLY MY VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP WAITING TO BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO ORDER THE PART.I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE EVERYONE KEEPS STATING RECALLS ARE BASED ON THE PROBABILITY OF THE PROBLEM HAPPENING TO CERTAIN CARS. WELL I AM HEAR TO SAY MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED BUT IT HAPPEN TO MY CAR. I COULD HAS EASILY ROLLED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE OR SOMETHING ELSE AND HURT MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE'S PROPERTY. I CAN'T BELIEVE WHEN YOU HAVE 100'S OF THOUSAND OF CARS RECALLED THAT THE MANUFACTURED, IN THIS CASE GM CATCHES THEM ALL.
WHILE DRIVING, NOTICED THAT THE CAR SEEMED SLUGGISH. AFTER BEING PARKED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, RESTARTED THE CAR AND GOT SEVERAL WARNINGS CONCERNING THE ESC, TRACTION CONTROL AND REDUCED ENGINE POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION LIGHTS WERE LIT AND REMAINED LIT. CAR HAS APPROX. 60,000 MILES ON IT. CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT.

I WAS HEADING DOWN A HILL AT THE TIME, AND WHEN IT GOT TO AROUND 30-35 MPH, THE GEAR CAUGHT (THANK GOODNESS BECAUSE IT WAS STARTING TO GET A BIT SCARY AT THAT MOMENT) AND WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN LIKE NORMAL. I HAD A FEW STOP LIGHTS ALONG THE WAY HOME, AND EACH TIME THAT I CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THEN STARTED DRIVING, THE SAME THING WOULD OCCUR. AS I GOT HOME, I CALLED THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP, DAVID STANLEY CHEVROLET HERE IN OKLAHOMA CITY, TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. IT SAT IN THE GARAGE FOR THE DURATION OF THE WEEKEND, AND THEN I TOOK IT IN THIS MORNING (MONDAY AUG.22ND) FOR MY APPOINTMENT. AS I WAS DRIVING FROM MY HOUSE TO THE DEALERSHIP (AROUND 8 MILES) I NOTICED THAT IT HAD GOTTEN WORSE. A FEW TIMES ON THE TRIP I DID NOT THINK THAT IT WAS GOING TO MAKE IT THE WHOLE WAY THERE AND THEN ABOUT A MILE OR SO FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. LATER, I HAD TO GO IN REVERSE AFTER I ARRIVED AND FOUND THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. I DROPPED IT OFF TO HAVE THEM DO THE DIAGNOSTIC ON IT FOR $120. AS I GOT HOME, MY WIFE AND I DID SOME RESEARCH ON OUR CAR, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IT MIGHT BE WHILE THE DIAGNOSTIC WAS TAKING PLACE. I HAVE TO SAY THAT I WAS SHOCKED BY WHAT I FOUND. WEBSITE AFTER WEBSITE WITH COMMENTS FROM OTHER CHEVY MALIBU OWNERS RANGING FROM 2000, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, AND 2011 DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING. ALL DESCRIBING A "BROKEN 35R WAVE PLATE" THAT RESULTS IN A "LOSS OF REVERSE GEAR, SLIPPING OR HARSH 3RD OR 5TH GEAR SHIFT". MY HEART SANK AS I READ SOME OF THE COMMENTS SHOWING WHAT WAS NEEDED TO FIX IT AND THEN, OF COURSE THE COST. TECHNICIAN CALLED BACK AND ITS A BROKEN WAVE PLATE. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE! THIS IS A WARNING..SOMEONE WILL GET HURT.

MY "SERVICE AIR BAGS" LIGHT KEPT COMING ON AND THEN REMAINING ON CONTINUALLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU AT NO CHARGE." I CONTACTED THE DEALER AT MESSER CHEVY IN LUBBOCK, TX, AND ALSO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT CHEVY. I OPENED UP CASE #8-2314213550 ON 8/19/16, AND I WAS TOLD TO GET A DIAGNOSTICS DONE AT THE DEALER, WHICH I DID. I THEN FOUND OUT THE CASE HAD BEEN ARBITRARILY CLOSED THE SAME DAY IT WAS OPENED! NOW CHEVROLET STATES THAT THE CASE WAS REOPENED ON 9/7/16. I JUST WANT THE PROBLEM FIXED FREE OF CHARGE SINCE THE PREVIOUS OWNER SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS WHEN CHEVY WAS OFFERING THE "SOFT RECALL" REPAIR AT NO CHARGE. CHEVY CALLED IT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM AT THE TIME TO AVOID AN AIRBAG RECALL MEDIA HYPE. I ASSUME THIS ISN'T RELATED TO ANY TAKATA AIRBAG PROBLEM, BUT IT IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD! WITHOUT INFORMING ME ABOUT THE OPEN RECALL OR ANYTHING ELSE, THE DEALER SOLD ME THIS CAR WITHOUT SHOWING ME CARFAX, AS I ASKED CARFAX, HE SHOWED ME MINOR PART OF MINOR IN HIS PHONE AND MISLED AND LIED TO ME AND SOLD THIS CAR. I DROVE FOR ALMOST 3 WEEK AND WENT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND FOUND OUT IT HAD OPEN RECALL, HAILDAMAGED, AND USED AS RENTAL, BUT THE DEALER DIDNT DISCLOSE ME ANYTHING. AFTER RESEARCHING THE "FIX" IN THE RECALL I CHECKED THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AT THE BCM. IT DID HAVE DIELECTRIC GEL APPLIED TO THE BDM WHERE THE CABLE CONNECTED SO REPAIR WAS DONE. AFTER REMOVING AND INSERTING THE CABLE SEVERAL TIMES TO REMOVE ANY CORROSION AT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL, AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER MYSELF, THE PROBLEM HASN'T RETURNED YET. HOWEVER, THE CONDITION OF HAVING BRAKE LIGHTS REVERSED IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF THE PROBLEM, INITIALLY. BEFORE I RE-APPLIED THE FIX I DID DISCOVER THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULDN'T ENGAGE WHEN THE CONDITION WAS PRESENT (IT WAS A FREQUENT CONDITION BUT WASN'T ALWAYS THERE). THERE WERE NO OTHER INDICATIONS THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE REVERSED OTHER THAN LOOKING AT THE LIGHTS FROM OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. MY CONCERN IS THAT GM'S FIX MIGHT BE FLAWED AS THE RECALL CONDITION RECURRED ON MY VEHICLE AFTER THE DESIGNATED FIX WAS PERFORMED AT THE GM DEALERSHIP, CAUSING RISK TO US AND OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS.

WHEN THE WARNINGS POP UP THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE PEDAL,THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF BRIEFLY WHEN DEPRESSED, HOWEVER, WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME BACK ON AND REMAINS ON. The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that while driving over rough roads, the vehicle displayed a Service Traction, Service EFC and EFC Off, and Engine Power Reduced messages. After coming to a complete stop and then the attempting to accelerate, the vehicle started to jerk. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who replaced the accelerator pedal twice however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the certified mechanic, and it was determined that water was leaking into the wiring harness and the wiring harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 265,000.

DURING A TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR, I SWITCHED ON MY WINDSHIELD WIPERS. I WAS TRAVELING AT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER SLOWING MY SPEED, I SWITCHED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO THE HIGHEST SPEED. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS, I HEARD A LOUD BANG, AND THE WIPERS COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. THE ENTIRE WIPER ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CAR HAS ONLY 66,000 MILES ON IT. I'M LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT IT COULD HAVE ENDED IN TRAGEDY. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE WIPER MOTOR, BUT THE PART THAT CONNECTS THE MOTOR TO THE WIPER BLADES.
I GOT THE CAR IN 2015 AND FROM THAT I HAVE HAD PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING LIGHT COMING ON AND SHUTTING OFF THE POWER STEERING WHICH MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND ALMOST RAN INTO A POLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONE TIME AND WHEN SHE TURN OFF THE CAR, IT WORKS AGAIN BUT THEN HAPPENS AGAIN. I HAVE MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT OVER AND OVER AND THE SOCKET BEING BURNED OUT AND HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AS WELL NOW MY RADIO HAS POWER BUT DOESN'T COME ON, AFTER IT WAS JUST WORKING. I CAN'T HEAR ANY DOOR CHIMES OR TURN SIGNAL SIGNS. IT LIKE A PROBLEM AFTER A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THIS CAR. I AM BUY THIS CAR BUT WE DON'T EVEN FEEL SAFE TO DRIVE IT. IT HAS ONLY 79000 MILES BUT THE PROBLEMS STARTED HAPPENING AROUND 50,000 MILES AND WHEN I GOT THE CAR IT HAD 43,000 MILES I BELIEVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE PUSHING THE LOCK/UNLOCK BUTTON INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE OR WHILE INSERTING THE KEY IN THE DOOR LOCK. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE AIR BAG ERROR MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED ACROSS THE MESSAGE BOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,200.
THE AIR BAG LIGHT WON'T GO OFF. WHERE I BROUGHT THE CAR THEY CAME IT WAS A SENOR AND THEY THOUGHT THEY FIXED IT BUT THE LIGHT IS BACK ON IT COMES ON WHEN I'M DRIVING
VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN THE DRIVERS INFORMATION CENTER INDICATED A ELECTRONIC STABILITY SERVICE, TRACTION CONTROL SERVICE AND ESC OFF MESSAGES. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER A TWO DAY PERIOD. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THEY SAID THAT THE COMPUTER HAD STORED A P0300 CODE WHICH IS ENGINE MISFIRE. THE ENGINE RUNS FINE HOWEVER THERE IS A SLIGHT VIBRATION AT IDLE WHILE IN PARK OR NEUTRAL. GM ALSO SENT OUT A LETTER TO ME STATING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE POSISTION SENSOR THAT MAY CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALER DID NOT ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SENSOR AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD A BAD #2 CYCLINDER WITH COMPRESSION AT 100LBS. THE P0300 CODE CAN BE CAUSED BY THE VARIOUS ELECTRONIC MESSAGES THAT HAVE APPEARED AND THE ENGINE IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THEY WANTED TO TEAR IT DOWN AT A COST OF $2300 TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT DOES NOT EXIST. THIS CAR ONLY HAS 39000 MILES ON IT. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSSUE WITH NHTSA AND GM HAS NOT DEALT WITH THE PROBLEM. ANOTHER ISSUE RELATING TO THIS IS THE FACT THAT THE ENGINE REDUCED POWER MESSAGE COMES ON IN SOME VEHILCLE AND THE CAR SLOWS DOWN AND IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON THE HIGWAYS. SO FAR MY CAR HAS NOT DONE THAT. I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE SOME PRESSURE EXERTED ON GM TO CORRECT THESE MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR VEHICLE SINCE THE GOVERNMENT BAILED THEM OUT ALONG WITH OUR TAXPAYER FUNDS.
THE ORIGINAL RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE IS 13036, THIS INVOLVED THE BRAKE LIGHTS MALFUNCTIONING DUE TO A FAULTY CONNECTOR AND OR CONNECTION. GM INSTRUCTED THEIR PERSONNEL TO CLEAN THE PART, APPLY CORROSIVE RESISTANT GREASE TO IT AND REATTACH. THE ISSUE IS, THIS IS ONLY A TEMPORARY FIX AND THE PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO MANIFEST ITSELF UNLESS THE ENTIRE HOUSING IS REPLACED (AT A COST OF ALMOST 600.00). I TOOK MY CAR FOR THE RECALL "REPAIR" IN SEPT OF 2014, THE THIRD WEEK OF JUNE 2015 MY BRAKE LIGHTS STARTED WORKING IN REVERSE ORDER AGAIN. THIS PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, NOT CLEANED. THE PERSON AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID AS MUCH, TELLING ME THAT CLEANING IT WOULD HELP IN THE SHORT TERM BUT ONLY FOR A FEW MONTHS, IF THAT. THAT MEANS THAT GM IS ALLOWING MILLIONS OF PEOPLE TO DRIVE THESE CARS KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTING SYSTEM IS SUBJECT TO FAILURE, WHICH IS VERY HARD FOR THE DRIVER TO DETECT. PLEASE REOPEN THIS RECALL, OR OPEN A NEW ONE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM FIXED CORRECTLY, JUST THINK OF A MALIBU WITH A FAMILY IN IT STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE SEMI COMING UP BEHIND THEM DOESN'T KNOW TRAFFIC IS STOPPED BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT ON, THE DRIVER OF THE MALIBU HAS NO CLUE THAT THEIR LIGHTS ARE WORKING IN REVERSE ORDER, YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW TRAGIC THE ENDING OF THAT STORY COULD BE.
BRAKE LAMP MALFUNCTION. BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL BRAKE PEDAL PUSHED AT WHICH TIME, BRAKE LIGHTS EXTINGUISH. TRACTION CONTROL AND CRUISE CONTROL ALSO FAIL. SAME VEHICLE WITH SAME ISSUE WAS PREVIOUSLY SUBJECT TO SAFETY RECALL 13036. RECALL WAS COMPLETED AND ISSUE CONTINUED. BRAKE APPLY SENSOR WAS REPLACED, PRIOR TO RECALL AND ISSUE REMAINED. RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED ON 11/15/14. ISSUES INTERMITTENTLY OCCUR AND IN JUNE 2016 VEHICLE TAKEN TO GM DEALER WHERE BRAKE APPLY SENSOR WAS REPLACED. ISSUE STILL REMAINS AS BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL PEDAL PUSHED, TRACTION CONTROL AND CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE. A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH NHTSA REGARDING THIS VEHICLE AND ABOVE ISSUES PRIOR TO RECALL. ISSUES OCCUR WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, AND IN MOTION ON CITY STREETS AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. FIRST REPAIR, AIRBAG SERVICE REQUIRED. THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED IT WAS A LOOSE WIRE. 2ND REPAIR, ESC MAINTENANCE REQUIRED, TRACTION SERVICE REQUIRED, ENGINE POWER REDUCED, VEHICLE WILL NOT LEAVE NEUTRAL. IF GAS IS APPLIED VEHICLE JUMPS AND SHAKES. 3RD IS SAME AS 2ND AND 4TH VISIT IS SAME AS PREVIOUS EXCEPT WHEN I RECEIVED OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE IT COULD NOT MAKE IT OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. AFTER MENTIONING THE LEMON LAW THE DEALERSHIP IS NOW TRYING TO BLAME THIS TECHNICALLY 5TH VISIT ON AN IGNITION COIL EVEN THOUGH ESC MAINTENANCE MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED WITH TRACTION CONTROL, ENGINE PWR REDUCED, THE VEHOCLE WAS STILL SHAKIG, AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON WHEN IT WASN'T BEFORE.
