CAR SLIPS 1ST TO 2ND (RPM BUZZES UP) THIS OCCURS WHEN CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR 30 MILES OR MORE AND WHEN IT IS ABOVE 85 DEGREES. IT ALSO HESITATES 2ND TO 3RD WHEN COLD. I WAS ALMOST HIT IN THE REAR TWICE WHEN THE CAR SLIPPED BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID NOTHING THEY COULD DO AS IT DID NOT SHOW ANYTHING ON THE COMPUTER. NOTE THAT SINCE THEY LOOKED AT THE CAR ON 7/26/13 THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO SLIP BETWEEN 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. NOTE THAT THE DEALERSHIP TEST DROVE IN THE MORNING WHEN IT WAS STILL COOL OUTSIDE AND DID NOT DRIVE IT BUT A FEW MILES. I WAS CHARGED FOR CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION $84.53. CAR WAS FIRST TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP ON 11/23/12 AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN 1ST, 2ND, 3RD GEARS (44,000 MILES ON CAR). COMPUTER SHOWED NO ISSUES, CAR WAS ONE QUART LOW IN TRANSMISSION FLUID. CHARGE WAS $49.69. FIRST I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICE AS THE DEALERSHIP 11/23/12 DID MORE AND CHARGED LESS. SECOND THE CAR CONTINUES TO HESITATE WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS "EVERYDAY" I DRIVE IT (IN THE AFTERNOON WHEN IT IS WARM). I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO ALMOST BEING HIT. PLUS I AM HAVING TO PAY FOR THIS WHEN IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
DRIVING DOWN TWO LANE ROAD AT AROUND 45 TO 50 MPH, LIGHT RAIN.....PUDDLES ON UNEVEN SURFACED ROAD STARTED TO GATHER, CAR STARTED TO HYDROPLANE AND WANTED TO GO LEFT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON LEFT....TRIED TO MOVE CAR TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID ACCIDENT.....SLOWED WAY DOWN AND TURNED OFF ROAD INTO PARKING LOT. TOOK CAR FOR REPAIR AND THE STEERING MOTOR WAS BAD AND REPLACED. *TR
THE MANUFACTURER FORGOT TO INSTALL A CLAMP ON THE MOON ROOF DRAIN. THE TUBE FELL OFF AND FLOODED THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR WITH 3 INCHES OF STANDING WATER ON JULY 12, 2013. THE ENTIRE PASSENGER SIDE INCLUDING CEILING, DASH (IN FRONT AND BEHIND), SEATS, FLOORING, AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS HAVE WATER DAMAGE. IT THEN HAPPENED AGAIN ON JULY 14, 2013. CONTACT WAS MADE TO THE DEALER ON JULY 16, 2013. AFTER NUMEROUS, MEANINGLESS PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH CHEVROLET, THEY WOULD ONLY REPLACE SOME COSMETIC PARTS. ONLY THE FLOORING WAS REPLACED AT FIRST. AFTER MORE COMPLAINTS, THE SEAT COVERS AND HEAD LINER WERE REPLACED, BUT NOT THE FACTORY CARPETED FLOOR MATS. THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE OR INSPECT ANYTHING ELSE THAT WATER CAME IN CONTACT WITH INCLUDING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS, SEAT CUSHIONS, SAFETY RESTRAINTS, WIRING HARNESSES, OR AIRBAG SYSTEM BEHIND THE DASH. OUR 10 YEAR OLD SON HAD A KIDNEY TRANSPLANT TWO YEARS AGO AND HAS A SUPPRESSED IMMUNE SYSTEM. DUE TO THIS, HE CANNOT BE AROUND MOLD WHICH CHEVROLET IS REFUSING TO TEST FOR. BEING THAT ONLY 50% OR LESS OF THE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, WE ARE CONCERNED OF THE PRESENCE OF MOLD. OUR PHYSICIAN HAS REQUESTED THAT THE CAR BE TESTED AND SIGNED OFF THAT NO MOLD IS PRESENT BEFORE OUR SON CAN RIDE IN THE CAR AGAIN. OUR SON'S HEALTH DEPENDS ON HAVING A SAFE, CLEAN CAR TO BE TRANSPORTED IN. CHEVROLET HAS NO CONCERNS FOR HIS SAFETY OR LIFE THREATENING ISSUES. UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL SAFETY COMPONENTS MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED WITH THIS MUCH WATER OR MOISTURE IN THE VEHICLE. THESE PARTS WERE NOT CHECKED, TESTED OR REPLACED. *TR
I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AND THEN A NOISE STARTED AS WELL. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A BROKEN AXLE SHAFT THAT THEY ORDERED AND THEN REPLACED. THE NOISE WENT AWAY BUT THE VIBRATION HAS PERSISTED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 5+ TIMES TO BE LOOKED AT AND THEY TELL ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT EACH TIME. I NEED TIRES ROTATED (DID THAT), NEED NEW TIRES (BOUGHT THEM), NEED TIRES BALANCED (DID THAT), NEED TIRES BALANCED ON THE RIMS (DID THAT), AND NOW THAT THE TIRES MUST BE COLD. I EXPLAINED THAT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS AFTER BEING DRIVEN OVER 30 MINUTES AND THAT THE TIRES SHOULD BE WARMED UP BY THEN. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET IN REGARDS TO THIS SEVERAL TIMES AND ALL THEY WANT TO DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM IS TO HAVE ME RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALER TO BE LOOKED AT. EACH TIME I DO THIS, I AM LEFT WITH NO VEHICLE AND FENDING FOR RIDES. I AM CURRENTLY COMMUTING NEARLY 100 MILES PER DAY FOR WORK UNTIL I AM ABLE TO RELOCATE AND CANNOT BE WITHOUT A VEHICLE. CHEVY REFUSES TO PAY FOR A RENTAL FOR AN ERROR THAT IS CLEARLY RELATED TO THEIR PRODUCT. I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO DO AT THIS POINT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I WILL BE FILING A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB AND ANYONE ELSE OF SIGNIFICANCE. *TR
THE ELECTRONIC STEERING WENT OUT....THE CAR WAS PULLING TO THE LEFT...RAINING...BARELY MADE IT OFF THE ROAD WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT....TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE MOTOR. *TR
ON 6/22/13 AT APPROX 1:40PM I WAS HEADING BACK TO WORK FROM MY LUNCH BREAK AND I WAS GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION ON MY GREEN LIGHT AT APPROX 30MPH WHEN A BIG CHEVY TRUCK BLEW THROUGH THE RED LIGHT GOING APPROX 40 MPH. I ENDED UP T BONING THE CAB OF HIS TRUCK. CAUSING ME TO DO A 360. TORE OFF THE BUMPER COMPLETELY. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND ONSTAR DID NOT CALL ME. TWO IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURES OF MY CAR FAILED ME! I THANK GOD I AM ALIVE WITH NO SERIOUS INJURIES! EVERYONE WHO SAW MY CAR INCLUDING THE BODY SHOP ARE IN COMPLETE SHOCK OF MY AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING! I REALLY WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE CAUSE! *TR
WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE, THE CAR LOST POWER. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE APP SENSOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING. FROM READING ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS STYLE OF CHEVROLET, AND HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE AT LEAST 2008. CONSUMERS ARE BEING FLEECED BY FAULTY PARTS AND/OR ENGINEERING (BASED ON THE COST OF THE REPAIR). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP, A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. AS A RESULT THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE TWO INJURIES REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2011 MALIBU IN APRIL 2012. INITIALLY, I WAS EXPERIENCING POWER SURGES UPON BREAKING. I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND MY CAR WOULD SURGE FORWARD BEFORE STOPPING. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A SENSOR. I'M STILL EXPERIENCING THE SURGES OCCASIONALLY. THE NEXT TIME I TOOK IT IN BECAUSE I WAS GETTING A LOT OF NOISE AND VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING ON A ROUGH A SURFACE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN. IT WAS FINE FOR A YEAR, NOW THAT PROBLEM IS RETURNING. DURING THE WINTER 2013, MY REAR DEFROST STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR FUSE BLOCK WAS MELTED AND IT WILL COST $535 TO HAVE IT REPLACED. AND ANOTHER $230 TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT REPLACED---- IT DOESN'T CONNECT SECURELY WITHOUT FIDDLING WITH IT. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE RECALLS ISSUED ON ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS BECAUSE I HAVE READ BLOGS AND OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES, AND THEY ARE ALL RELATED TO THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
PURCHASED MY 2011 CHEVY MALIBU IN APRIL OF 2012 WITH 56K MILES, IN APRIL OF 2013 WITH 70K+ MILES, MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AND I WAS INFORMED BY THE NEARBY CHEVY DEALERSHIP THAT IT REQUIRED A TOTAL REBUILD AND ALL PARTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER THE WARRANTY AND THEREFORE, I DID NOT PAY FOR THE SERVICES. AROUND MAY 5 2014, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM/ ABS SYSTEM/ BODY CONTROL MODULE, ETC. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE SAME SHOP FOR REPAIRS, IN WHICH MY CAR WAS KEPT FOR 30 DAYS & RETURNED. UPON RECEIVING MY CAR BACK I'VE NOTICED MY CAR HAVING ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SUCH AS THE HEADLIGHTS KEEPS GOING OUT WHEN THE BULB IS STILL GOOD. MY RADIO CONSTANTLY SHUTS OFF ON ITS OWN & RANDOMLY SWITCHES TO THE AUX. THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IS CONSTANTLY FLICKERING! NOT ONLY DO I HAVE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS, IT MAKES THIS ODD NOISE & THE BRAKES LOCK UP WHENEVER I SLOW DOWN TO AROUND 20MPH & OR TURNING A CORNER AND THIS ESC ICON APPEARS. I CONTACTED CHEVY & ASKED IF THERE ARE ANY RECALLS FOR THIS MATTER & I WAS TOLD NO, THAT MY CAR WAS FIXED FOR ALL RECALLS FOR MY MODEL. THIS ISSUE CONTINUES TO OCCUR TODAY. ON/ AROUND JUNE 19 2015 W/ 115000 MILES, MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING IN THE MIDDLE OF I95 HWY & I COULD NOT PUT IT INTO ANY GEAR! I KNEW IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE SAME SHOP AND WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE NO WARRANTY & I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $4,106.45 FOR A NEW TRANS! I HAVE BEEN SEEKING ASSISTANCE FOR THIS MATTER, ITS UNFAIR THAT I HAVE HAD THIS CAR FOR 3/4 YEARS AND ITS ON ITS 2ND TRANSMISSION!! I WAS QUOTED FOR THIS $ AMOUNT AND THEY HAVEN'T EVEN OPENED THE TRANS YET! I WAS THEN TOLD TO COME TO THE DEALERSHIP & THEY WOULD TRY TO GET ME A NEW CAR AND IT WAS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. I WAS TOLD TO LET MY CAR GET REPOSSESSED BECAUSE IT WAS NO GOOD AND CANNOT BE FIXED! I LEFT IN TEARS!! UNPROFESSIONAL!!
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 50 MILES PER HOUR AND THE ABS,TRACTION CONTROL, AND ESC SERVICE LIGHTS WENT ON THE DASHBOARD. FELT A SMALL JERK IN THE CAR AND THEN IT CONTINUED TO DRIVE NORMALLY LIGHTS REMAINED ON. *TR
DRIVING 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE AND SERVICE ESC AND ALL OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON AND ENGINE DIED. I HAD TO MANEUVER 3 LANES TO THE RIGHT IN RUSH HOUR TO GET TO THE BREAKDOWN LANE WITHOUT POWER STEERING. "FAULTY ALTERNATOR" RULED TO BE AT FAULT. NO WARNING THAT MORNING PRIOR TO EVENT. TWO DAYS BEFORE THE BATTERY LIGHT STAYED ON A LITTLE LONGER (5 MINUTES) THAN USUAL AND THEN WENT OFF. IT NEVER CAME ON AGAIN TO WARN OF SOMETHING WRONG. I CALLED CHEVROLET AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS INDIFFERENT SO I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH MY STATE'S BBB AS THIS IS THE THIRD, AND MOST SEVERE ISSUE, I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR AND I HAVE NOT HAD IT TWO YEARS QUITE YET. I DID RECEIVE A CALL BACK FROM GM. THEY ARE WORKING ON THEIR RESPONSE TO THIS LIFE THREATENING EVENT AS WELL AS THE OTHER PROBLEMS, WHICH WERE THE EXHAUST SOLENOID DIED ( SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON) AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE COVERING CAME OFF EXPOSING THE SHARP METAL IT IS MADE OF). *TR
THE CONTACT JUST BOUGHT A 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU USED NOVEMBER 2012. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE ESP, SLIPPERY /TRACTION LIGHT, ENGINE LIGHT AND REDUCING ENGINE POWER WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE CAR DECREASED SPEED TO 20MPH. *TR
THE FUEL PUMP HAS BURNED CONNECTORS THAT ARE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK, THE BOARD LIGHTS INTENSITY INCREASES OR DECREASES OR STAYS OFF, ALL FUSES ARE GOOD, THE GM IS AWARE OF THIS AND 72 HOURS AGO I'M WAITING FOR AN ANSWER , I HAVE FEAR THAT HAPPEN AGAIN, SO I'M NOT USING THE CAR, WHERE I CAN SEND PICTURES OF THE FUEL PUMP, WHEN I OPENED THE CASE I ASK THEM GM CAR RENT IT AND REVISE MINE TO SEE IF IT WAS SAFE BUT UNTIL NOW NO RESPONSE, IT SEEMS THAT THEY WANT THE CAR TO BURN. *TR
CHECK AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON, THEN RESET ITSELF, WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON INTERMITTENT MODE SHUT OFF AND ON AGAIN. REPORTED TO CHEVY DEALER, SAID IF LIGHT WASN'T ON THEY COULDN'T CHECK IT, IF THE WIPERS ARE WORKING PROPERLY THEY COULDN'T CHECK IT. DID THIS ON MY LAST OIL CHANGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE ESP AND LOW ENGINE POWER WARNING LIGHTS THEN ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE ENGINE RESET AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE REDUCE ENGINE POWER, SERVICE TRACTION, AND SERVICE ESC WARNING LAMPS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.*TR
DROVE INTO GAS STATION AND STOPPED, TURNED OFF CAR, FILLED WITH GAS. UPON STARTING CAR AND PUTTING CAR IN DRIVE THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. HAD TO DRIVE CAR APPROXIMATELY 3 BLOCKS IN REVERSE TO GET CAR IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. *TR

WENT OUT TO CRANK THE CAR. IT WOULD NOT START. SENT IN TO BE FIXED. PICKED CAR UP TODAY AND INSIDE PANEL IS NOT WORKING NEITHER IS THE LIGHTS. I HAVE TO CALL SERVICE AGAIN IN THE A.M. *TR
I STARTED MY VEHICLE ON JANUARY 11, 2013 AND THE "SERVICE AIRBAG" LIGHT CAME ON IN THE INFORMATION CENTER IN MY DASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO HORNE AUTO IN SHOW LOW, AZ, WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR, ON JANUARY 18, 2013 TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I HAD PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE APPROXIMATELY $730 TO FIX. I WENT HOME AND GOT THE INFORMATION FROM MY LOCAL MECHANIC TO CONTACT GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A BULLETIN SENT OUT THAT I HAD UNTIL NOVEMBER 30, 2012, TO GET SAID PROBLEM FIXED. IN RESEARCHING THIS BULLETIN ON SAFERCAR.GOV, THIS BULLETIN WAS SENT OUT NOVEMBER 1, 2012. SINCE I NEVER RECEIVED THE BULLETIN AND DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM UNTIL JANUARY 11, I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FIX OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I PUT IN A COMPLAINT TO GM AND WAS THEN TOLD I COULD GET IT FIXED FOR HALF THE COST SINCE GM WAS GOING TO COVER THE OTHER HALF. I PUT IN ANOTHER COMPLAINT TO GM TO HAVE THEM FIX THE PROBLEM, SEEING THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR MY KIDS THAT I DRIVE AROUND IN THIS VEHICLE, I DO NOT BELIEVE I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY ANYTHING FOR A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS NOT MY FAULT AND THAT GM KNOWS ABOUT. I DON'T WANT ANYONE ELSE TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS ISSUE EITHER. I AM STILL WAITING FOR GM TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS KEEP GOING OUT. WILL TURN ON AND OFF SPORADICALLY. HAVE HAD THE LIGHTS CHANGED MANY TIMES. AND ALSO HAD THE PIGTAILS CHANGED . STILL WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN JUNE 2012. BY DECEMBER 2012 AS I PRESSED THE GAS TO GET UP A HILL ON A DARK BUSY WITH MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND PLENTY OF TRACTOR TRAILER TRUCKS THE CAR LOST ACCELERATION AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THE CAR COULD NOT BE DRIVEN FORWARD. MY BOYFRIEND HAD TO DRIVE THE CAR IN REVERSE FOR SEVERAL MILES TO GET US TO SAFETY. CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND TOOK IT TO THE CHEVYDEALER IN UNION CITY GA WHERE THEY REBUILT THE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE THEN I'VE BEEN CAUTIOUS AND AFRAID TO REALLY PRESS ON THE GAS WHEN ACCELERATING. ABOUT A YEAR LATER STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH WATER DRIPPING ON MY FOOT WHEN IT RAINED, WATER STANDING IN THE FLOOR BOARDS AND A LEAKY ROOF OVER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. NAMELY THE HEAD REST IN THE FRONT AND REAR SEATS BLOCK THE REAR VIEW BY AT LEAST 50% AND CONTRIBUTE TO ACCIDENTS ESPECIALLY WHEN BACKING UP. THE HEAD RESTS ARE TOO HIGH AND WIDE. VEHICLE BROUGHT IN, DEALER STATED THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS. DECEMBER 2012, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH, CAR ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, CAR CAME TO STOP ON ACTIVE TRAIN TRACKS WITH CHILDREN IN CAR, NO POWER STEERING, NOT ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE, NEUTRAL OR REVERSE, PARK. ONCE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. TOWED VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE, WAS TOLD TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A BAD SOLENOID. VEHICLE STILL HAVING PROBLEMS TWO MONTHS AFTER. MAY 2013, VEHICLE STILL LOSING POWER, RPM'S REVVING AND RAPIDLY DROPPING, DASH LIGHTS RANDOMLY DIMMING WITHOUT TOUCHING DIMMER KNOB, DRIVER'S DOOR WILL NOT OPEN FROM INSIDE AND WILL NOT LOCK/UNLOCK DESPITE MULTIPLE METHODS, ONCE OPEN DOOR WILL NOT LATCH TO CLOSE AND DOOR BOUNCES OPEN AGAIN, AUTO START LAGS AT TIME AND RANDOMLY DOESN'T WORK. IT WILL ALSO SWITCH SOMETIMES WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE, OR TURN ON WINDSHIELD WIPERS. YOU HAVE TO BUMP THE SIDE OF THE DASH OR THE AREA AROUND THE RADIO FOR IT TO SWITCH BACK ALSO THERE IS A NOISE WHERE THE STEERING IS THAT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS KNOCKING AROUND UNDER THE CAR, AND MY DASH LIGHTS SOMETIMES WILL WAIT UNTIL I HAVE DRIVEN SEVERAL BLOCKS BEFORE THEY COME ON. I ASSURED HER IT WILL NOT. NOTHING IS BROKEN ON IT. IF IT OCCURS AGAIN, WE WILL REATTACT AT NO CHARGE. SUNDAY, MAY 27TH 3PM CST DRIVING IN SOUTHWEST MISSOURI, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED SHIFTING TO A HIGHER GEAR. I PULLED OVER AND PARKED ON A BACK ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. WHEN I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THE TRANSMISSION DID NOT SHIFT, PRESSING THE GAS HAD NO EFFECT. I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO D, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD BUT MOVED ? INCREASING SPEED IT SHIFTED TO 2ND ROUGHLY AND THEN INTO 3RD WITH HESITATION ? IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO A HIGHER GEAR FROM THERE. I DID NOT NOTE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AT THAT TIME. BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CELL PHONE SIGNAL I DROVE TO THE NEAREST RELATIVE?S HOUSE IN OKLAHOMA. WHILE DRIVING I SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK TO DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION HESITATED AND TOOK A GOOD 15-20 SECONDS TO ENGAGE IN 3RD GEAR. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BUT THE DISPLAY DID NOT INDICATE WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. SHIFTING TO MANUAL, THE DISPLAY DID NOT INDICATE THE CAR WAS IN MANUAL (SHOULD HAVE READ M3). SHIFTING BACK TO DRIVE HAD NO RESULT. THE CAR MAINTAINED SPEED IN 3RD GEAR. SO I DROVE IN 3RD GEAR WITH MY HAZARDS ON, NORTH ON 43, THROUGH SENECA (NO CHEVY DEALER), TO MY AUNTS HOUSE IN OKLAHOMA. I CONTACTED GM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 800-CHEVUSA AND HAD THE CAR TOWED. THE CAR NOW SITS AT A DEALER IN JOPLIN MO AWAITING "DIAGNOSIS" AND THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE WILL NOT AUTHORIZE A RENTAL CAR UNTIL A "DIAGNOSIS" HAS BEEN DONE. 1ST BUSINESS DAY FOR DEALER IS TUESDAY, MAY 29TH AND THEY STATE THEY HAVE A BACK LOG OF DIAGNOSIS AND CAN NOT GET TO IT UNTIL WEDS OR THURSDAY. I BOUGHT MY 2011 MALIBU LTZ IN APRIL 2011. SINCE I BOUGHT IT I HAVE NOTICED, CONSISTENTLY, THE CAR REVS EXTREMELY HIGH WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS WHILE ACCELERATING. IT OFTEN TIMES STRUGGLES TO SHIFT BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD AND 4TH GEARS. THE CAR IS ALSO RATED TO GET UP TO 33 MPG HIGHWAY, AVERAGE OF 25. I DRIVE ABOUT 90% HIGHWAY AND BACKROADS AND AM ONLY GETTING AN AVERAGE OF 23.3 MPG, WHICH IS THE CITY RATING. THIS CAR HAS A 6 SPEED AUTO AND WAS SUPPOSED TO DO BETTER ON GAS THAN THE LAST FEW MODELS, BUT MY 2009 MALIBU WITH A 4 SPEED AUTO DID BETTER THAN THIS CAR DOES. INITIALLY I FIGURED I WAS DOING BAD ON GAS BECAUSE I TEND TO BE A LEADFOOT DRIVER, SO I MADE SIGNIFICANT STRIDES TO REDUCE MY OVERALL SPEED AND QUICK ACCELERATIONS. AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS NOW OF DRIVING SLOWER AND SAFER I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY CHANGE IN THE MPG. I AM ABOUT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GET THE FUEL SYSTEM CHECKED OUT. I ALSO HAVE THE AUTOMATIC STARTER IN MY CAR AND IT HAS DIED AT 25,000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO BEING REAR-SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I PULLED OUT ON THE HIGHWAY AND MOVED THE SHIFT FROM LOW GEAR TO DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION GOES INTO NEUTRAL AND STAYS IN NEUTRAL. SEVERAL TIMES I HAVE HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO KEEP FROM GETTING REAR ENDED BECAUSE THE VEHICLE STAYS IN NEUTRAL. DEALERS HAVE NO FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND APPARENTLY THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD IN THESE 6 SPEED AUTO TRANS FOR THE YEAR 2011.

IT ALSO HAD A (CAR LOCKED) SYMBOL LIT ON THE DASH. THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS. TODAY IS THE SECOND TIME THIS SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED. CHEVY SAID THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED IN NOVEMBER, BUT NOW IT'S BACK. THE MALIBU IS BACK AT CHEVY FOR THE SECOND TIME FOR THIS PROBLEM. WE EXPERIENCED ANOTHER INCIDENT 2 WEEKS AGO BUT AFTER STARTING THE CAR AGAIN THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THERE AND HAS NOT SURFACED UNTIL NOW. I CERTAINLY HOPE THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED THIS TIME FOR GOOD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER BACK AND NECK, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN AND A SPECIAL ENGINEER SENT ON BEHALF OF THE MANUFACTURER. BOTH THE TECHNICIAN AND THE ENGINEER STATED THAT THE CRASH DID NOT MEET THE THRESHOLD IN WHICH THE AIR BAGS WOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,700.

2011 CHEVY MALIBU 2LT - TRANSMISSION SLIPPING BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEARS, ALSO 2ND TO 3RD. TAKES A DANGEROUSLY LONG TIME FOR IT TO KICK IN TO THE CORRECT GEAR AND I HAVE HAD SOME CLOSE CALLS PULLING INTO TRAFFIC. ALSO, THIS SIX SPEED TRANSMISSION IS DEFECTIVE WHEN TRYING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE AS ONCE YOU ARE IN 6TH GEAR, IT WILL NOT DROP TO 5TH IN ORDER TO PASS. THE RPMS RACE UP AND NOTHING HAPPENS. ALL OF THIS AND GM SAYS THAT THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS NORMAL AND THERE IS NO PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS. THIS IS A DEFECT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
