I SEE THAT THE NHTSA IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING GM BRAKE FAILURE PROBLEMS AND I WOULD LIKE TO RELAY MY RECENT EXPERIENCES WITH THE FAILURE OF MY BRAKES. I WAS ON VACATION BACK IN EARLY APRIL WHEN THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SOLOMON CHEVROLET FOR DIAGNOSIS. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE TRACTION CONTROL MODULE (BTCM) HAD FAILED AND THE REPAIRS WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1100. I ELECTED NOT TO HAVE THE ITEM REPAIRED AT THAT TIME DUE TO THE COST INVOLVED. AFTER RETURNING HOME, ON 4/26, THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DUNDEE CHEVROLET AND WAS INFORMED THAT NOT ONLY WAS THE BTCM DEFECTIVE, BUT ALSO THE HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR. IN ADDITION THEY STATED THAT I NEEDED BOTH FRONT AND REAR BRAKES REPLACED (PADS AND ROTORS). THEY SAID THAT MY BRAKES WERE FALLING APART. TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIRS WOULD BE $3031.00. AFTER CONTACTING GM THEY OFFERED TO GOODWILL THE BTCM AND HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR, BUT I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR AN ENTIRE BRAKE JOB. EVENTUAL COST WAS $1566.00. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND AMAZED THAT I SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM AFTER ONLY 42000 MILES. UNBELIEVEABLE.
DURING VERY SLOW SPEED SUCH AS CREEPING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMS TO ENGAGE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES MAKING BRAKING UNPREDICTABLE. PROBLEM IS VERY REPEATABLE. SIMILAR TO INVESTIGATION PE05-020. *JB

DT: SITTING STILL OR AT LOW SPEEDS THE STEERING WILL NOT TURN LEFT. IT BINDS UP TURNING LEFT.*AK
DT: CONSUMER STATES AT 44,000 MILES THE ROTORS, PADS AND WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED. SIX MONTHS LATER THE WHEEL SPEED ABS SENSOR HAVE FAILED. COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN GOING BETWEEN 2 AND 8 MPH. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO A GOODYEAR DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE ABS BRAKES. NUMBER NOT AVAILABLE. CONSUMER WAS GOING TO CALL GENERAL MOTORS TODAY. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED REGULARLY. *AK
DT: THE VEHICLE IS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP TRUCK. THE ABS IS COMING ON UNEXPECTEDLY WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIES THE BRAKES. SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THIS OCCURRED IT CAUSED THE BRAKES NOT TO WORK PROPERLY AND AT OTHER TIMES IT CAUSED THEM TO FAIL. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE AND A BUILDING ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS. SHE HAS TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH THEY TOLD HER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE ABS SENOR NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THEY REMOVED AND CLEANED BOTH FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS. BECAUSE OF SOME KIND OF BUILD UP ON THE SENSOR. WHEN THE CONSUMER HAD THIS FIXED THE DEALERSHIP BROKE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS TRYING TO GET TO THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THESE PARTS AT THE CONSUMERS EXPENSE. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT COME BACK SINCE THEY CLEANED THE SENSOR. THIS IS THE ONLY KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. *JB
I HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO REPLACED DUE TO THE ACCELERATOR STICKING. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN OUT FROM GENERAL MOTORS REGARDING REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN THIS CONDITION OCCURS. I BELIEVE THIS PART WAS DEFECTIVE, POSES A SAFTY CONCERN AND SHOULD BE RECALLED BY GENERAL MOTORS.*AK
1999-2005 CHEVROLET AND GMC SILVERADO STYLE EXTENDED CAB PICKUP TRUCKS. REAR VENT WINDOWS HAVE A SERIOUS PINCHING HAZARD FOR CHILDREN OR ADULTS WITH SMALL FINGERS. THE LATCHES WHICH OPEN THE VENT WINDOWS HAVE A CAM LATCH THAT WHEN CLOSING THE WINDOW,CREATES A PINCHING HAZARD. THE LATCH FLIPS THROUGH A SCISSORS MOTION WHEN CLOSING , THE OUTSIDE OF THE LATCH FLIPS INSIDE OF THE BOTTOM PART(IN BETWEEN IT). THE HAZARD SEEMS TO BE A MAGNET FOR CHILDRENS FINGERS AS BOTH OF MY CHILDREN HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY PINCHED SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN THE FINGER IS PINCHED IN THE LATCH IT IS PRESSED ON BY THE OUTSIDE FORCE OF THE WIND DETERMEND BY THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE(PINCHING IT EVEN WORSE), MY CHILDREN HAD TO PUSH OUT ON THE WINDOW TO RELEASE THEIR FINGER FROM THE LATCH WHEN PINCHED. *AK
ABS BRAKES ON 2000 CHEVY SLIVERADO PICKUP TRUCK ARE FUNCTIONING EVERY TIME YOU STEP ON THE BRAKES.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH CABLE THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE IN POSITION AT THE BASE OF THE VEHICLE SNAPPED INADVERTENTLY. THE TIRE FELL FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE INTO TRAFFIC.*AK...A CAR BEHIND CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS ALERT TO SEE THE TIRE COMING, STOPPED AND AVOIDED HITTING TIRE. *AK
ABS BRAKES ON MY 2000 SILVERADO WONT STOP ME AT SLOW SPEEDS, BRAKES RACHET AND TRUCK KEEPS GOING
DT: ABOUT 3 OR 4 MOTHS AGO, THERE WAS A LIGHT THAT CAME ON IN VEHICLE THAT SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID HOT. THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE. ALSO, THERE WAS A VEHICLE WARNING LIGHT THAT INSTRUCTED DRIVER TO PULL OVER AND LET VEHICLE IDLE. OWNER TOOK IT TO DEALER, WHO REPORTED THAT THERE WAS MORE THAN NORMAL METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID PAN, AND THAT THE CLUTCH COULD BE GOING OUT. THEN, DEALER CHANGED FLUID AND FILTER, AND INSTRUCTED THE OWNER THAT HE COULD CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL IT ABSOLUTELY HAD TO BE REPAIRED. THE OWNER CONTINUED DRIVING THE VEHICLE, AND HAS HARD SHIFTING. OWNER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, WHO REPORTED THAT COULD BE A SYMPTOM OF THE COMPUTER TRYING TO COMPENSATE FORT HE TRANSMISSION WHICH WAS FAILING. THEN ON THE 12TH OF JULY 2005 THE MESSAGE CAME ON AGAIN TRANSMISSION FLUID HOT. THEN OWNER CONTACTED GM DIRECTLY, WHO TRIED TO SELL THE OWNER A NEW TRUCK, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE TO OWNER WITH TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS GOING TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED WITH SOME SERVICE RECORDS AVAILABLE. THERE WERE NO OTHER MAJOR ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK.*AK
AFTER READING THE NEWSPAPER OF 05/04/2005, I REALIZED MY VEHICLE, A 2000 SIVERADO, WAS INVOLVED IN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION #PE05020, LOW SPEED BRAKING DISTANCE INCREASE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THROUGHOUT THIS PAST WINTER, MY TRUCK JUST SEEMED LIKE IT DIDN'T WANT TO STOP IN WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A SUFFICIENT DISTANCE. I HAD BEEN TOLD BY MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN JULY OF 2002, TO EITHER USE MY PARKING BRAKE ALL THE TIME OR NOT AT ALL BECAUSE THE COMPONENTS WOULD RUST AND BECOME INOPERATIVE. APPARANTLY THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN KNOWN BY GM FOR A LONG TIME. HAVING READ THE NEWS ARTICLE, THE FURTHER RAMIFICATION BECOMES CLEAR. I NOW KNOW THE A.B.S. SYSTEM WAS TOO AGGRESSIVE ON SLIPPERY SURFACES. THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I WAS TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND WOUND UP IN MY FRONT YARD STUCK, BUT WITH NO DAMAGE. IF I HAD BEEN AT AN INTERSECTION ON A PUBLIC ROAD, I MIGHT NOT BE HERE TO WRITE THIS. THE INCIDENT DATE AND NUMBER OF FAILURES WILL BE RELATIVE DUE TO THE FREQUENCY OF THIS FAILURE.
OFF CENTER HEAD ON CRASH WITH 2 SIMILAR 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB PICK UP TRUCKS. ESTIMATED IMPACT SPEED 90 MPH ( 60 MPH VEHICLE 2, 30 MPH VEHICLE 1 PER CHP REPORT) NO AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT OF EITHER VEHICLE.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT I HAD BEEN ALL DAY AT WORK AND THE PASSANGER FRONT WHEEL WOULD NOT STRAIGHTEN OUT. I COULD NOT PULL FORWARD OR BACKWARD, I WAS STUCK IN THE CENTER OF THE PARKING LOT. THEN HAVE IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE TIE ROD HAD STRIPPED AND COME OFF. THE REPAIR PERSON TOLD ME THAT THE DRIVER FRONT ALSO WAS STRIPPED AND WOULD HAVE SOON FAILED AS WELL. THEY WERE BOTH REPLACED AND THE TRUCK WAS ALIGNED. THIS WAS AN UNEXPECTED EXPENSE, THERE WAS NO INDICATION BY MYSELF OR MY HUSBAND THAT ANYTHING WAS LOOSE OR COMING APART. I WAS ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM GETTING ON THE INTERSTATE TO GO HOME. AS I UNDERSTAND IT I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OF MY TRUCK HAD THE TIE ROD FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING.
MY SPARE TIRE OFF OF THE 2000 SILVERADO FELL OFF THE BOTTOM BED AND WOUND UP 100 FEET OFF THE HIGHWAY IN THE WOODS. THE CABLE FRAYED ON THE ATTACHMENT!
A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. DRIVER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE SPARE TIRE AND CABLE SHEARED OFF. DRIVER PLACED THE CABLE AND TIRE INSIDE THE VEHICLE AND DROVE TO THE DEALER. *AK
WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 3/4 TON CHEVROLET AT A JOB SITE . I LOST POWER STEERING ANG POWER BRAKES. CALLED CHEVROLET DEALER ( VETTER CHEVY IN THREE RIVERS MI. ] THEY TOLD THEIR WAS NO RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT. I HAD IT TOWED TO DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING PUMP I HAD ON WARNING FROM DASH LTS AND ALMOST RAN OVER A WORKER WORKING AT THE JOB SITE I CHECKED YOUR SITE AND FOUNT YOUR ACTION # PED4004 I PAID CORE CHARGE ON OLD PUMP CALL IF YOU WANT IT SHIPPED TO YOU I THINK SHAFT IS BROKEN BUT DID WANT TO INSPECT IT IN CASE YOU WANT IT SHIPPED TO YOU THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE REPLACED PUMPS IN THE PAST.*AK
CONSUMOR STATES: CONTROL MODULE FOR ABS JUST WENT OUT. HAD TO PUMP BRAKES. ALSO. BACK ROTOR WENT OUT AT 30,000 MILES, AND HAD TO HAVE A NEW ONE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, PULLED OUT ON TO THE HIGHWAY, AND CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. THEN, CONSUMER PULLED INTO A DRIVEWAY TO TURN THE VEHICLE AROUND, AND FOUND OUT THAT HAD NO REVERSE BECAUSE TRANSMISSION FAILED. *AK
BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY HARD, TRUCK BECAME HARD TO STOP UNDER 5 MILES PER HOUR.THE PROBLEM OCCURED MORE OFTEN,ONCE FOR EVERY THREE STOPS. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WERE FOUND TO BE FAULTY. A SPEED SENSOR WAS REPLACED IN EACH FRONT WHEEL. COST OF REPAIRS WAS $400.
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A GARAGE FOR INSPECTION. THE CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THIS TIME. THIS INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED BY RICKY'S WIFE KAREN FLIMP. *AK
THE BRAKES ARE WEAK & WHEN GOING DOWNHILL ON A BUMPY SURFACE,THEY GO TO THE FLOOR& YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT'S GOING TO STOP.
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500 HEAVY DUTY TRUCK [XXX]MY TRUCK RECENTLY BECAME DISABLED DUE TO A MALFUNCTION OF THE POWER STEERING PUMP DURING THE COURSE OF NORMAL OPERATION. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM RUNNING ERRANDS WHEN I REALIZED THE TRUCK WAS SUDDENLY DIFFICULT TO STEER. I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN AND DISCOVERED THAT WAS DIFFICULT AS WELL. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE HOME IN THIS CONDITION. I UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY A RECALL FOR CERTAIN TRUCKS THAT CONTAIN SIMILAR OR IDENTICAL EQUIPMENT. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT MY TRUCK'S VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. FOLLOWING THE CONVERSATION WITH A GM REPRESENTATIVE, I CONDUCTED FURTHER RESEARCH. FROM WHAT I CAN ASCERTAIN, THE TRUCKS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL HAVE THE SAME HYDRO-BOOST SYSTEM THAT MY TRUCK HAS. I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND WHY GM IS EXCLUDING A TRUCK FROM ITS RECALL THAT HAS THE SAME EQUIPMENT AND SAME CRIPPLING MALFUNCTION OF TRUCKS THAT HAVE BEEN RECALLED. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT FURTHER INQUIRY IS REQUIRED IN THIS MATTER. PLEASE REPLY AT YOUR EARLIEST POSSIBLE CONVENIENCE. I ANTICIPATE THAT YOUR INVESTIGATION WILL RESULT IN MY VEHICLE BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE WAS LEAKING FLIUD. THE TRUCK WAS GOING IN FOR A RECALL IN THE STEERINNG PUMP. SO I ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM. THE DEALER CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD A SMALL HOLE IN IT AND IT WOULD BE $1,200.00 TO FIX IT. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK HOME AND LOOKED AT THE TRANSFER CASE MYSELF. THE TRANSFER CASE DID HAVE A SMALL HOLE IN IT. I WAS GOING TO PUT SOME JB WELD ON THE HOLE FOR THE TIME BEING. UNTIL I COULD AFFORD TO HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE FIXED. WHEN I TOUCHED THE HOLE WITH MY FINGER I NOTICED THAT THE TRANSFER CASE HAD REALLY WEAK MEDAL IN THAT AREA LIKE WHEN IT WAS MADE IT WAS NOT MADE RIGHT. I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO GM ABOUT THE PROBLEM THEY ARE TRING TO DECIDE IF THE TRANSFER CASE FAILURE IS THERE FAULT OR IF THE TRUCK HAS BEEN BEAT ON. I HAVE ONLY USED THE 4WD ONE TIME IN THE LAST 9 MONTHS THAT I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK THE PEOPLE THAT HAD IT BEFORE ME TOOK REALLY GOOD CARE OF THE TRUCK. I AM REALLY UPSET THAT CHEVROLET'S DO NOT LAST MORE THEN 5 YEARS.*AK
COSUMOR STATES: FOG LIGHT IN RECESS BUMPER A PLASTIC PIECE IN LOWER PART OF BUMPER THE PLASTIC PIECE BRAKES AND LIGHT HANGS THERE UNTIL IT FALLS OUT. ALSO, ABS LIGHT SENSOR CAME ON AND TOOK TO DEALER, THEY DID TEST AND SAID MY SYSTEM IS DEFFECTIVE HAD REPLACED BUT HAD TO PAY SOME OF COST OUT OF POCKET. THE LEATHER SEATS HAVE ALSO STARTED TO TEAR, AND WHEN STARTING VEHICLE SOUNDS LIKE A DISEL TRUCK
NHTSA CAMPAIGN 00V055000; CHEVROLET ISSUED AN ABS SPRING CLIP RECALL. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT THE ABS WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THIS VIN IS OUTSIDE THE REMEDY SCOPE. *JB
GM VEHICLES, CORROSION MAY CAUSE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) ACTIVATION. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL. THE RECALL STATED IF THE REPAIRS HAD ALREADY BEEN MADE, SEND IN THE RECEIPT. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD HE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE IT WAS A CANADIAN RECALL. THE RIGHT INNER TIE ROD WAS LOOSE. *JB
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2000, UNRELIABLE, UNSAFE GAS GAUGE. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE GAS GAUGE FLUCTUATED FROM 1/2 TO EMPTY AND THE INFORMATION CENTER READ LOW FUEL EVEN WHEN IT WAS NOT LOW. *JB
RECALL CAMPAIGN: ONE OF THE CONSUMER'S TAILGATE CABLE BROKE ON HIS 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PRIOR TO RECALL NOTIFICATION. *NM *SC THE CABLE ON THE LEFT SIDE IS STRETCHED AGAIN, HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE CONSUMER WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY TAKEN CARE OF AS A FAVOR. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN IT WAS REPAIRED IT WAS A TEMPORARY FIX, BECAUSE THE USED THE SAME CABLES. *JB
AT SPEEDS UNDER 15 MPH THE ABS ACTIVATES AND THE VEHICLE GOES 1 TO TWO FEET FURTHER THAN EXPECTED. USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN COMING TO A STOP SIGN, STOP LIGHT, PARKING OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENS A LOT!! I KNOW THERE IS A CAMPAIGN OUT THERE, BUT THEY NEED TO APPROVE IT BEFORE THERE ARE MORE WRECKS! THE CANADIAN RECALL WAS OVER A YEAR AGO, WHY IS THE US RECALL SO FAR BEHIND? *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED DOORS WILL NOT OPEN FROM THE INSIDE. THE LOCKS WERE ELECTRICAL, AND THE WINDOW HAD TO BE ROLLED DOWN TO OPEN THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE. HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER. THEY INFORMED HIM THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO ORDER ANOTHER HANDLE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLES MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN PULLING THEM OUT TO OPEN THE DOOR AND THEY STAYED OUT. WHEN GETTING INTO THE TRUCK AND CLOSING THE DOOR IT LOCKED AUTOMATICALLY. WITH THE OUTSIDE HANDLE OUT THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK ELECTRICALLY OR MECHANICALLY FROM THE INSIDE. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE DOOR UNLOCKED WAS TO OPEN THE WINDOW AND PUSH THE HANDLE IN. IF THE WINDOW FAILED TO OPEN THE CONTACT WOULD BE TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO FIX OR REPLACE THE HANDLES. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THIS FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS. BOTH ABS SENSORS MALFUNCTIONED WITHIN 10,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE FIRST SENSOR BECAUSE IT WAS OXIDIZED TO THE HUB ASSEMBLY. THE SECOND SENSOR WAS CLEANED. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 CONCERNING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES, BUT THE CONTACT'S STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK THE TIRE WERE CUPPED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A VIBRATION COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. (HYDRAULIC BRAKES) WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THE ABS KICKED IN AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ON. NO WARNING GIVEN ABOUT THE ABS FAILURE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. THE PROBLEM WOULD ALSO OCCUR ON DRY ROAD CONDITIONS WITH NORMAL BRAKING. THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. *AK PER INVOICE; THE ABS BRAKES WOULD ACTIVATE AT SLOW SPEEDS. I HAVE A 2000 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 42,000 MILES AND MY BRAKE ROTORS ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CONDITION AND CLEARLY A DEFECT IN METALLURGY. I AM ASTOUNDED TO FIND THRU MY DEALER (MIDWAY CHEVY OLDS) THAT GM IS NOT STANDING BEHIND THIS DEFECT. I FOUND THROUGH WEB RESEARCH THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
VERY DIFFICULT TO APPLY BRAKES WITH VEHICLE SPEED BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH. PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PUSH. TRYING TO APPLY BRAKES A BUZZING NOISE IS HEARD FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. USING BOTH FEET TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ABLE TO STOP VEHICLE. NO ABS OR BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. INCIDENTS HAPPENED ON THE ROAD AS VEHICLE SLOWED IN TRAFFIC.
MY 2000 SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK HAD THE BAD BRAKE SENSOR IN THE FRONT WHEEL. AS I WOULD ROLL TO A STOP THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE AND I WOULD HAVE TO PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET TO STOP. I NEVER GOT IN AN ACCIDENT, BUT HAD SEVERAL SCARY MOMENTS BEFORE THE TRUCK STOPPED. I GOT THE SENSOR REPLACED AND IT FIXED THE PROBLEM GM SHOULD HAVE COVERED THE REPAIR, IT IS A BAD SAFETY ISSUE.
INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE. ABS FAILURE. HAD TRUCK BRAKES CHECKED AND REPAIRED, THREE DIFFERENT TIMES. BRAKES WORKED FOR A FEW MONTHS, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *JB

DT: THE CONTACT STATED THIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING ABS BRAKE FAILURE. RECALL REPAIRS WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE, BUT IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS PULSATION IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE DEALER REMOVED THE ABS FUSE TO KEEP THE ABS FROM ACTIVATING. THE DEALER SAID HE WILL HAVE TO COVER THE COST OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT UPON COMING UP ON A STOP THE VEHICLE WILL CONTINUE TO COAST ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES. CONSUMER STATES THAT IT HAS THE VERY SAME PROBLEM AS GM STATES IN THE RECALL FOR THE BRAKES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *NM
RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE. CONSUMER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER IN REGARD TO THIS RECALL. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT HEW WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE DEFECT HIMSELF. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN FIXED ONE CABLE, AND HANDED THE SECOND CABLE TO CONSUMER, TELLING HIM THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO FIX IT BY HIMSELF. ALSO, THEY CLAIMED THEY WERE NOT A BODY SHOP, AND HE WOULD HAVE TO GET THIS FIXED ON HIS OWN. *AK
CONSUMER EXPERIENCED INTENSE SHAKING FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECTS. CONSUMER WAS NOT SATISFIED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE AT HOME AND EXAMINED IT HIMSELF, FINDING A LOOSE BOLT CONNECTING THE TIE ROD. *AK TOOK VEHICLE TO CHEV DEALER FOR REPAIR TWICE. THEY REPLACED IDLER ARM AND INNER PASSENGER SIDE TIE ROD, RE-BALANCED TIRES, ROTATED SAME AND ALIGNED FRONT END TO NO AVAIL. THE CONSUMER FOUND THAT THE TEFLON NUT HOLDING THE PASSENGER SIDE OUTER TIE ROD LOOSENED. ONLY A FEW THREADS WERE HOLDING THE NUT ONTO THE TIE ROD. *BF *NM
INTERMITTENTLY THE BRAKE PEDAL HARDENED AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING. THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, AND VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED BOTH REAR DRUMS AND BRAKE PADS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNS THE VEHICLE AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE THE BRAKES ONLY GO DOWN ABOUT 1 OR 2 INCHES AND ARE HARD TO PUSH DOWN ANY FURTHER. THE BRAKES DO NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKES 2 TO 5 TIMES FOR THEM TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *TC
THE BRAKE PEDAL WENTL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AT 10 MILES PER HOUR MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE CONSUMER STEPPED OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID ON THE GROUND AND BRAKE HOSES. TAKEN IN FOR CHECKUP AND RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS TORN AND NEEDED REPLACED. *TT
WHILE DRIVING, THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FRONT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE BEARINGS AND SENSOR.
LARGE INTAKE LEAK, ANTIFREEZE LEAKING INTO THE OIL MILKED OIL. WHEN I CHECKED THE OIL I FOUND THIS SO STARTED LOOKING FOR OTHER PROBLEMS. I PUT A PRESSURE TEST ON THE RADIATOR AND FOUND THE LEAK IMMEDIATELY! THE ANTIFREEZE CAME OUT FROM UNDER THE FRONT EDGE OF THE #1 CYLINDER!I AM VERY UP SET TO HEAR THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE G.M. RECALL THEIR TRUCKS FOR THIS PROBLEM! I REPAIRED THE PROBLEM MYSELF. IF I HAD TO PAY SOME ONE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IT WOULD HAVE COST IN THE RANGE OF $700-$900. *AK
LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINTS AND SERVICE BULLETINS, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT GM HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR FUEL LEVEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT IN THE TANK. I ALSO HAVE THE PROBLEM, ALONG WITH MANY OTHERS IN THE AREA. IT APPEARS THAT NO ONE INTENDS TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. IT APPEARS THAT SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE TO RUN OUT OF GAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY HIGHWAY, AND WHEN TRYING TO GET OFF THE HWY, SOMEBODY GETS KILLED, BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE. OR, ONE OF OUR WIVES GETS STRANDED BY RUNNING OUT OF GAS, AND RAPED AND/OR MURDERED, BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE. THIS WILL KEEP GOING UNTIL ONE OF THE ABOVE INCIDENTS OCCURS AND A CLASS ACTION SUIT OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE THE PROBLEM COME TOGETHER IN THE SUIT. WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAPPENS THEN. THE LAWYERS WIN, AND EVERYBODY ELSE LOOSES. FIXING THE PROBLEM WOULD CERTAINLY BE THE CHEAPEST CORRECTIVE ACTION IN THE LONG RUN. *JB

I HAVE TWO GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES. A 2000 SILVERADO TRUCK AND A 97 OLDS SILHOUETTE. BOTH OF THESE HAVE V6 ENGINES AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD THAT BOTH OF THEM HAVE INTAKE MANIFOLD LEAKS. THE ANTIFREEZE IS LEAKING OUTSIDE OF THE INTAKE, AND IN THE CASE OF MY TRUCK, PROBABLY INTO THE ENGINE. I AM BEING TOLD THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS, THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE V6. AND AFTER VOICING MY COMPLAINT, FOUND THAT MY BROTHER-IN LAW, HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED THE GENERAL MOTORS NUMBER IN THE MANUAL AND TOLD THEM THAT I WAS UPSET WITH THE PROBLEMS AND THEY SAID THAT BECAUSE ONE IS A 97 WITH 62000 MILES, IT IS TWO OLD AND THAT MY TRUCK HAS TO MANY MILES (112000). YET EVERYONE TELLS ME THAT IT IS THE PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS THAT GM USES THAT IS THE PROBLEM. *NM
