DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY. DRIVER FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE, LEFT THE ROAD ONTO THE SHOULDER. SIDEWALL OF TIRE BLOWN OUT AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIRE I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. IN BOTH CASES THE SIDE WALL HAS BLOWN OUT. *TR
WHILE COMING TO A STOP LIGHT GOING ABOUT 25 MILE AN HOUR I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT FELT MUSHY THEN WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR FINALLY STOPPING BEFORE ENTERING A HIGHWAY WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT 50 MILES PER HOUR. TURNED AROUND AND WENT HOME NOTICED BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR. ALL THE LINES CORRODED JUST A FEW MORE FEET TO STOP AND IT COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD. *TR
I WENT TO MOVE MY TRUCK FROM MY DRIVEWAY TO THE STREET. AS I WAS LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY I HAD TO PUSH AS HARD AS I COULD TO GET THE TRUCK TO STOP. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE TRUCK ONLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS AS FAR AS I COULD PUSH IT DOWN. I DROVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK TO SEE IF THE BRAKES WOULD WORK BETTER. I STILL HAD TO PUSH DOWN ALL THE WAY AND IT LOOK A LONG TIME TO STOP. I WAS NOT CONFORMABLE DRIVING MUCH OVER 10 MPH. WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE DRIVEWAY I NOTICED A LINE OF FLUID. I LOOKED AT THE REAR DRIVE SIDE WHEEL WELL AND THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER IT. IT APPEARS THE BRAKE LINE TO RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
WITHOUT ANY WARNING I WAS BACKING UP AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR,THE CURB STOP THE TRUCK.TRUCK WAS IN CHEVY DEALER SERVICE FOR A COMPLETE REAR BRAKE JOB,PAD KIT,ROTOR,AND PARKING BRAKE KIT IN 2013 WHICH INCLUDED A MULTI-POINT INSPECTION, ALSO IN 2009,2012. AT NO TIME VERBALLY OR WRITTEN ON MY RECEIPTS WERE BRAKE LINES NEEDED REPLACING. PUT TRUCK IN SHOP TO HAVE BRAKE LINE REPLACE BY DEALER RECOMMENDATION AND WHEN I PICKED TRUCK UP 10/25/2014 FOUND THEY DIDN'T REPLACE RUSTED BRAKE LINE TO REAR BRAKES. *TR
IN OCTOBER 2014 WENT TO HAVE ANNUAL STATE INSPECTION TO BE PERFORMED. WAS REJECTED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST ON FRAME. AS TRUCK WAS LIFTED THE FRAME WAS BENDING. INSPECTION STATION SAID TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. NO RUST IN WHEEL WELLS, TAILGATE, BUMPERS. TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 91,500 MILES DRIVEN. APPEARANCE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. HAVE REPORTED TO GMAC (CASE # 71-1508539581)AND THEY HAVE MADE NO ATTEMPT TO REPLACE FRAME. DO NOT DRIVE IT IN SALT WATER AND DO NOT TRAILER ANY BOATS OR OTHER NEAR SALT WATER. HAVE BEEN WITHOUT VEHICLE FOR OVER A YEAR. WAS TOLD THAT THIS TRUCK IF DRIVEN IS A DANGER TO DRIVE: HAVE REVIEWED YOUR COMPLAINTS FOR THIS VINTAGE VEHICLE AND MANY COMPLAINTANTS WONDER WHY SOMETHING HASN'T BEEN DONE TO REMEDY THIS APPARENT INFERIOR MATERIAL USED IN THESE TRUCKS OVER A NUMBER OF YEARS IN MANUFACTURING. HAVE IN EARLIER REPLACED THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM THAT RESULTED FROM RUST RELATED CORROSION BRAKE LINES RUNNING ALONG THE FRAME.AM WILLING TO SEND COPIES OF THE TRUCK'S OUTER CONDITION CONFIRMING THAT IT HASN'T BEEN ABUSED IN ANY WAY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SPARE TIRE DETACHED FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, WENT TO STOP AT STOP LIGHT, BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND NO BRAKE LIGHT. CALLED G.M. THEY PUT ME IN A PHONE LOOP NOTHING RESOLVED. *TR
ON 09/21/2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 1100 HOURS I HAD JUST COME OFF INTERSTATE 66 WEST.I WAS ENTERING A GATED COMMUNITY IN GAINESVILLE, VA. I STOPPED AT THE GUARD BOOTH TO SHOW I.D. I NOTICED SOME SMOKE AT THE GUARD BOOTH AND THOUGHT IT WAS THE CAR BEHIND ME. I SLOWLY ACCELERATED TO THE NEXT CROSS STREET. I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I ATTEMPTED TO PUMP THE BRAKES AND I STILL HAD NO BRAKING. I HAD TO UTILIZE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. THE SMOKE WAS FROM MY VEHICLE. IT WAS FROM THE BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES ONTO THE EXHAUST. THE REASON I HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE WAS DUE TO BOTH LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILING AT THE SAME TIME. THE LOCATION OF THE LINE FAILURE WAS ON THE FRAME RAIL CLOSER TO THE MASTER CYLINDER (NOT FURTHER DOWN BY THE DRIVER'S DOOR). I AM THANKFUL THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR AT HIGH SPEED AND OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I AM THANKFUL THAT THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS PRESENT THAT I HAD TO BRAKE FOR AND NO PROPERTY DAMAGE. I PERSONALLY INSPECTED THE BRAKE LINES AFTER THE INCIDENT AND HAVE FOUND THE CORROSION EXCESSIVE. I HAVE ORDERED A KIT TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER REPORTED ANY DEFECT ON ANY VEHICLE. I AM REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT IS THAT SERIOUS OF A SAFETY CONCERN. THIS IS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND THE BRAKE LINE MATERIAL AND DESIGN ARE AT FAULT. *TR
@00 MILES AFTER COMPLETE BRAKE JOB NEW PADS AND ROTORS STATE INSPECTION STEEL BRAKE LINE FROM ABS UNIT TO RF CALIBER FAILED. THREE DAYS LATER STEEL LINE FROM ABS TO MASTER AND FRONT BRAKES FAILED. THIS SHOULD BE A MANDATORY RECALL PEOPLE WILL BE KILLED. WHY ARE OTHER MANUFACTURES HAVING THIS PROBLEM? HIGHER QUALITY MATERIAL MAYBE. THE PROBLEM IS SO COMMON GM HAS DEVELOPED A KIT WITH ALL NEW BRAKE LINES. INSTALLATION IS ON YOU PRICES RANGE FROM 1000-4000 DOLLARS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. (NOTE BETTER QUALITY BRAKE LINES ARE USED IN THE KIT.)
TWO OF THE BRAKE LINES SPLIT OPEN WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES DURING A ROUTINE DECELERATION TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW. I HAD TO APPLY THE PARKING BRAKE TO BRING THE VEHICLE SAFELY TO A STOP IN AN ADJOINING PARKING LOT. UPON INSPECTION THE BROKEN LINES AND LEAKING BRAKE FLUID WE SEEN. THE BRAKE RESERVOIR LOST NEARLY 10OZ. OF FLUID. THE BRAKE LINES ARE WELL KNOWN IN THE AUTO REPAIR TRADE CIRCLES TO BE MADE OF INFERIOR STEEL AND GM SHOULD OFFER REPLACEMENT AT NO CHARGE. FOR JUXTAPOSITION, I OWN A 1995 JEEP WRANGLER WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF MILES AND HAS STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINES AND THE LOOK WEATHERED, BUT NO CORROSION AND NEVER A FAILURE. *TR
I PRESSED ON THE BRAKES AND FELT ONE SET BLOW OUT, PRESSED HARDER TO COMPENSATE AND FELT THE REMAINING SET BLOW OUT. THE PEDAL THEN WENT TO THE FLOOR RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING. THE BRAKE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON (NO REASON FOR IT TO?). LUCKILY I HAD A TRAILER CONNECTED WHICH HAD WORKING ELECTRIC BRAKES AND I WAS ABLE TO MANUALLY ACTIVATE THOSE BRAKES. LATER THAT DAY WHILE MOVING THE VEHICLE IN MY YARD, I USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH IMMEDIATELY FAILED. INSPECTION OF THE BRAKE LINES REVEALED MASSIVE CORROSION ON ALL OF THE LINES AND WILL REQUIRE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. INSPECTION OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE REVEALED THE LINE WAS COATED IN PLASTIC EXCEPT IN SOME AREAS. THOSE AREAS WERE TOTALLY CORRODED RESULTING IN THE CABLE BRAKING IN ONE OF THOSE AREAS. SO IN ONE PEDAL ACTION, BOTH FRONT AND BACK BRAKES CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED. AND IN THE SAME DAY, ALL 3 SYSTEMS FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND THEY REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TOWED IN AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST RUN (AT THE VEHICLE OWNERS EXPENSE), HOWEVER CHEVROLET HAD NO PROGRAM IN PLACE AND WOULD NOT COVER ANY OF THE REPAIRS NO MATTER WHAT THE OUTCOME OF THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST... I OPTED TO REPAIR ALL THE BREAK LINES MYSELF TO AVOID THE THE EXTRA COST OF A TOW AND DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT WOULD HAVE NO OUTCOME OTHER THAN A REPORT TO CHEVROLET AT A LARGE EXPENSE TO ME. APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000 MILES.
SUDDEN BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO RUSTED BRAKE LINES. *TR
DRIVING APPROXIMATELY AT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY WHEN REAR PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. GOODYEAR WRANGLER LT265/75R16. THE SIDEWALL WAS BLOWN OUT AND I HAD TO REPLACE THE TIRE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE TIRES, TIRE LINE FIRESTONE STEEL RADIAL A/T TIRES, DOT VN118AC030. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW MILEAGE, THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRED BLEW OUT. THE TIRE WAS TAKEN TO A SHOP AND REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION THAT MAY AFFECTED THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TIRE WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE WAS 42,000.
AS I WAS ABOUT TO PUT MY VEHICLE IN REVERSE, AND BACK OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, I PRESSED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND IT WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED PRESSING IT AGAIN, AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR AGAIN. UPON INSPECTION UNDER THE VEHICLE, I DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BURST. THANK GOD THAT I WAS NOT ACTUALLY IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED, AS I NEED TO BACK INTO A VERY BUSY STREET (ACTUALLY, IT'S A HIGHWAY) AND THERE IS NO TELLING WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT, AS I HAVE COME ACROSS NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, AND ACTUALLY I'VE HAD TO REPLACE A DIFFERENT BRAKE LINE THAT WAS RUSTED THROUGH SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. APPARENTLY, CHEVROLET DOES NOT THINK THIS IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN CARE OF. THEY ARE WRONG! *TR
REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW OUT. PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. VERY HARD TO STOP VEHICLE WHICH ALMOST RESULTED IN A ACCIDENT. THOUGHT THERE SHOULD BE SOME TYPE OF SAFETY MECHANISM TO PREVENT THE FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE BRAKE SYSTEM. NO STOPPING POWER FROM FRONT BRAKES AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THEM. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO NOT BE INVOLVED IN A WRECK. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DISPLAYED A HIGH READING. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP AND ANTI-FREEZE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, THE VEHICLE DID FINALLY STOP. DROVE CAREFULLY HOME ABOUT 2 MILES. I FOUND A STEEL BRAKE LINE THAT HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED. BRAKE FLUID WAS ALL OVER THE UNDER SIDE OF THE TRUCK. *TR
THE METAL BRAKE LINE BLEW A HOLE IN IT CAUSING ME NOT TO BE ABLE TO STOP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS AND INFORMED THAT ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
I WAS TAKING OFF FROM A RED LIGHT AND ANOTHER CAR CROSSED IN FRONT OF ME CAUSING ME TO APPLY MY BRAKES UPON REALIZING THAT THE PEDAL HAD WENT TO THE FLOOR I PUMPED THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK CAME TO A SLOW STOP AND I MISSED THE OTHER VEHICLE BY MERE INCHES I LIMPED THE VEHICLE TO WORK AVOIDING GETTING TOO CLOSE TO OTHER VEHICLES AND DOWNSHIFTING TO HELP SLOW DOWN WHEN I GOT BACK TO WORK I PRESSED THE PEDAL AND HEARD A HISSING SOUND I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID BY THE REAR AXLE UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I HAD A FRIEND SLOWLY DEPRESS THE PEDAL AND FOUND THAT THE MAIN LINE RUNNING TO THE REAR HAD A HOLE AND NOTICED THE ENTIRE LINE HAD RUSTED SO I STARTED LOOKING AT THE REST OF THE LINES A NOTICED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES ARE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND ARE READY TO BURST JUST LIKE MY BRAKE LINE DID I'M JUST GLAD I WASN'T GOING FASTER OR HAD MY FAMILY IN THE TRUCK WHEN THIS HAPPENED. *TR
AT LOW SPEED WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES IT FEELS LIKE THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES CAUSING THE TRUCK NOT TO STOP UNTIL YOU PUMP THE BRAKES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ABRUPTLY WHEN ENGAGED. THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED REPEATEDLY HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED OFF THE ROAD IN A BACK AND FORTH MOTION ONTO A GRASSY SURFACE UNTIL REACHING A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP AFTER DRIVING OVER A SPEED BUMP. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND PLACED A RUBBER HOSE OVER THE HOLES IN THE FAULTY BRAKE LINES AND SECURED WITH SUPPORT CLAMPS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE RESIDENCE AT AN EXTREMELY LOW SPEED. THE CONTACT REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES AND MAIN LINES HIMSELF. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THERE WAS A LOAD SNAPPING SOUND HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AS THE CONTACT TRAVELED OVER A LARGE CRACK IN THE GROUND. THE CONTACT OPENED THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHERE HE OBSERVED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING CAME THROUGH THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WHO WAS A LICENSED MECHANIC REPLACED THE SHACKLE ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 176,294. MY TRUCK HAD TO HAVE A WHOLE BREAK LINE PUT IN LAST YR AND IT COST ME 200 BUCKS.NOW THE OTHER SIDE WENT OUT AND I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND CANT AFFORD ANOTHER 200 BUCKS,,,ITS A 2000 MODEL AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OTHER TRUCKS IN THE 90S WITH GOOD LINES,,WHATS UP WITH THIS ???I THINK WITH ALL THE PROBLEMS PEOPLE ARE HAVING WITH THESE MODELS G M SHOULD PUT A RECALL OUT ON THEM!! PULLING BOAT, COME DOWN HILL TO STOP SIGN, BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMED OUT, HIT THE PARK BRAKE TRUCK STOPPED AS TWO VEHICLES WERE AT INTERSECTION. BRAKE LINE BUSTED, HEARD OF A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, IS IT REAL OR NOT. GOOD WAY TO GET KILLED. *TR
MY OLDEST SON WAS DRIVING MY 2000 CHEVY 2500 PICKUP TRUCK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL ALMOST WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OF THE TRUCK. HE NARROWLY MISSED REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE VERY SLOWLY HOME WITH A VERY MUSHY FEELING BRAKE PEDAL. WHEN I INSPECTED THE TRUCK I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED SO BAD THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED AND WAS LEAKING FLUID UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. *JS

LUCKILY IT ROLLED TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT HITTING ANYTHING. I HAD NEVER USED THE SPARE, NOR LOWERED THE HOIST MECHANISM. THIS TIRE WEIGHS ~75 POUNDS AND COULD HAVE EASILY KILLED A PASSING MOTORIST. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY A VEHICLE DRIVING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION MAKE A SUDDEN LEFT TURN CAUSING ME TO QUICKLY APPLY THE BRAKES TO AVOID A COLLISION. THIS CAUSED THE BRAKE LINE TO FAIL LEAVING ME WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKE FOR THE DRIVE HOME. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME. TWO YEARS AGE THREE BRAKE LINES FAILED. *JS

I OWN A 2000 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 4X4 EXTENDED CAB SHORT BED WITH 5.3L AND AUTO TRANSMISSION SLT PACKAGE WITH 165000 HIGHWAY MILES. I TRAVEL AROUND 62 MILES A DAY. ON JUNE 4TH, 2014, I WAS TRAVELING THE FREEWAY AT 70MPH AND I BEGAN SLOWING TO EXIT WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR. NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PUMPED OR HELD DOWN THE PEDAL IT WOULD NOT EVEN SLOW. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION MANUALLY TO LOWER MY SPEED WHICH DID HELP AND THEN APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WHICH SEEM TO WORK FOR A SECOND THEN SEIZED AS I WAS PRESSING THE PEDAL. IT WAS JUST STUCK AND WOULDN'T GO DOWN ANY FURTHER. UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS RUSH HOUR AND THE EXIT WAS BACKED UP FROM THE LIGHT AND I WAS RUNNING OUT ROOM QUICKLY. HAVING NO SHOULDER ON THE EXIT, I HAD TO LEAVE THE ROADWAY AND VEER OFF INTO A GAS STATION LAWN WHICH I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK TO SLIDE AROUND AND STOP BEFORE HEADING INTO TRAFFIC. AFTER CHECKING THE MASTER CYLINDER AND SEEING IT ALMOST EMPTY I TOWED THE TRUCK HOME. TO MY SURPRISE WHEN LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK, I FIND A LEAKING BRAKE LINE. THEN I START TO NOTICE ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH FROM THE FRONT CALIPERS TO THE REAR. THIS TRUCK IS ONLY 14 YEARS OLD WHICH TELLS ME THE MATERIALS USED TO MANUFACTURE THESE BRAKE LINES WERE NOT ADEQUATE. THE SPEED AT WHICH THEY HAVE RUSTED IS RIDICULOUS FOR A 14 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I WATCHED MULTIPLE NEWS CHANNELS HAVE REPORTED ON THIS ISSUE BUT GM REFUSES TO ADMIT THEIR FAULT. THE ENTIRE UNDER CARRIAGE AND FRAME OF THESE VEHICLES ARE RUSTING OUT WAY TO QUICK WHEN COMPARED TO ALL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED THE SAME YEAR AND THEY ALL ARE RUSTING IN EXACTLY THE SAME AREAS. THIS CONDITION IS A DANGER TO NOT JUST THE VEHICLE OWNERS BUT TO EVERYONE SHARING THE ROAD. *TR

AT DIFFERENT TIMES THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A CHATTER NOISE AND THEN NO BRAKES. IT SEEMED TO HAVE BRAKES AFTER I WOULD HIT THE PEDAL AGAIN. I SAW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPENED SO I ACCELERATED AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND SHOT ACROSS THE HIGHWAY OUT OF THE TRUCKS PATH. THANK GOODNESS NO VEHICLES WAS IN THE OTHER LANE. I CHECKED WITH A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL IN THE NORTHERN STATES FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT IN OUR AREA. HE SAID IT WOULD COST AROUND 1200 TO 1400 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THE ABS SYSTEM FAILURE. LAST FALL I WAS TOWING MY CAMPER HOME AND THE BRAKE BUSTED ON THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES. ONCE AGAIN I WAS LUCKY AND HAD NO ACCIDENT. I HAD IT TOWED TO A LOCAL SHOP AND HAD IT REPAIRED. HE SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM OF THE LINES RUSTING ON THE GM VEHICLES. I KNOW THE TRUCK IS A 2000 MODEL BUT I HAD A 1958 CHEVROLET TRUCK WITH OVER 300,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WHAT SO EVER.
