A CHEVY SILVERADO TAILGATE RELEASES AT THE LATCH AND DROPS WITHOUT PROVOCATION. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE A SUDDEN LOUD NOISE AND THE DROPPED TAILGATE OPENS RELEASING CARGO ONTO ROADWAY. THIS FAILURE IS NOT PRECIPITATED BY ANY UNUSUAL ROAD SURFACE OR BUMP.*JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKING FROM VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DID NOT ENGAGE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE AND NEARLY CAUSED A CRASH. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL #05V379000 WHICH PERTAINS TO THE HYDRAULIC ANTI-LOCK SERVICE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE PCV VALVE AND FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED. THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND THE ROTORS WERE MACHINED, THE ROTORS WERE EVENTUALLY REPLACED, THERE WAS NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS DRY. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, A VIBRATION WAS FELT AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE OCCURRED WHEN THE HYDRAULIC BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT ILLUMINATE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT, AND THE FAILURE OCCURRED UNDER NORMAL BRAKING. THE BRAKE DESIGN WAS WHEEL ANTILOCK. THE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM WAS WORSENING. THE VEHICLE WAS EXAMINED BY A LOCAL DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS UNWANTED ACTIVITY WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. NO REPAIRS HAD BEEN MADE. A NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000 PERTAINING TO THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK RELATED TO THIS MATTER.
WHEN DRIVING ON INTERSTATE BRAKES WILL BEGIN TO APPLY WITHOUT ACTION BY THE DRIVER, CAUSING VIBRATION AND OVER HEATING OF ROTORS AND STIFF BRAKE PEDAL, THIS HAPPENS AFTER ABOUT 15 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE AND BRAKES HAVE NOT BEEN APPLIED. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE PRESENTED PERMANENT TO WORSENING CONDITIONS OF THE STEERING COLUMN. PRIOR WARNINGS INCLUDED WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT, THE VEHICLE MADE A CLICKING SOUND AND VIBRATION WOULD OCCUR. THE STEERING COLUMN GRADUALLY BECAME MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME REPAIRS CONCERNING THE STEERING. UPON EXAMINATION, THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED LUBRICATION AND THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED LUBRICATION MAINTENANCE EVERY 4,000 MILES. ALSO, THE INTERIOR SHAFT WAS WORN AND THE BELT WAS BROKEN. THE DEALER REPLACED MOUNT CUSHIONS, REPAIRED THE BUSHING AND STEERING GEAR, AND PROVIDED STEERING SHAFT WITH A LUBE KIT. PRIOR EXAMINATIONS MADE BY THE DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE LEFT REAR TIRE HAD A BROKEN BELT. UPDATED 12/01/06. *JB
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK VEHICLE, THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED FOR APPARENT REASON, CAUSING THE CAR TO HIT A WALL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, THEY DUPLICATED PROBLEM, TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM. GM CONTACTED AND INITIALLY CONFIRMED PROBLEM, NOW AFTER TWO WEEKS THEY ARE DENYING ANY PROBLEM EXIST ... *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE BRAKES SQUEAKED AND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED FROM THE INSIDE OUT, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. WHILE DRIVING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED TO 60 MPH OR TRYING TO PARK WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL MADE COMPLETE CONTACT WITH THE FLOOR. HE HAD TO CONTINUE TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES UNTIL THE PEDAL EXTENDED NORMALLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED A MONTH AGO AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR ON A DAILY BASIS. DURING COLD TEMPERATURES THE FAILURE DIDN'T OCCUR. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF RECALL CAMPAIGN# 05V379000 CONCERNING SERVICE BRAKES: ANTI LOCK. THE DEALER INFORMED HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL. ALSO, HE STATED THAT ODI# 10158205 DUPLICATEDE THE FAILURE. HE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM AND AND WAS GIVEN CASE# 71-506187062. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,900. THE DEALER RECENTLY STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,200. *AK

CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, CAN BE FELT AT ANY SPEED ESPECIALLY IN GRADUAL TURNS TO LEFT OR RIGHT. HAD PROBLEM FIXED TWICE AT DEALER EXPENSE AS A KNOWN PROBLEM. NOW HAPPENING AGAIN, AFTER HAVING RECEIVED A "REDESIGNED" STEERING SHAFT. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? SHOULD THE STEERING SHAFT FAIL EVERY 20K MILES? WHAT IF IT COMES LOOSE, ON THE INTERSTATE, AT 70 MPH? 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO PICK UP TRUCK WITH ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEED. CAUSES INCREASED VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE THAT ALMOST RESULTED IN SEVERAL CRASHES. ACTIVE RECALL UNDER # 05V379000. WORK WAS PERFORMED AT PASADENA GOODYEAR DUE TO A WEEK DELAY INSERVICE APPOINTMENT AT JBA CHEVROLET IN GLEN BURNIE MARYLAND. COMPLAINT AND REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES WAS FILES WITH GM UNDER THIER CASE NUMBER OF 1-441050950. DAVE MILLER, 1-866-790-5600, ADVISES THAT EVEN THOUGH OUR VIN NUMBER FALLS UNDER THOSE CAPTURED FOR RECALL AND IS WITHIN THE RECALL STATES AND THE PROBLEM IS CHARACTERISTIC OF HTE RECALL THEY ARE DENYING REIMBURSEMENT BECAUSE I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. I ADVISED THEM THAT I JUST BOUGHT THE TRUCK TWO WEEKS PRIOR AND WOULD NOT HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE. I ALSO REQUESTED THAT THEY SEND ME A FORMAL WRITTEN DENIAL OF CLAIM AND THEY WILL NOT AS THEY DO NOT HAVE AUTHORITY TO DO SO. I PAID $1300 TO HAVE THIS SAFETY DEFECT REPAIRED AND THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE ME FOR MY EXPENSES. ALL TSB'S WERE FOLLOWED AND FAILED TO CORRECT THE POBLEM. THE ONLY RESOLVE WAS THE REPLACEMENT OF BOTH FRONT WHEEL HUBS. REMOVED , DEFECTIVE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION

UNDER NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEED, AROUND 7-10 MILES PER HOUR. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS TYPICALLY THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR THAT CAUSES THIS PROBLEM. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED BY GM BUT MY TRUCK DID NOT FALL IN THIS RECALL DUE TO THE VIN NUMBER. WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE REPLACED TO FIX THIS ISSUE. *JB

2002 2500HD SILVERADO WITH 8.1 ENGINE. TWO TIMES IT CRANKED WITH NO START. TWO OTHER TIMES IT SHUT OFF AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH NO WARNING OF ANY KIND. CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL FILTER. FINALLY CHANGED THE CRANK SENSOR. THE SENSOR FIXED THE PROBLEM. *JB

2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WAS BEING DRIVEN AND A STEEL BRAKE LINE POPPED WHILE BRAKING FOR A DOWNHILL GRADE, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKING. IF WE HAD BEEN TOWING OUR HORSE TRAILER AN ACCIDENT WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE OCCURRED. THE BRAKE LINE IS SEVERELY ROTTED AND RUST FLAKES OFF EASILY. THE LINE IS HELD TO THE FRAME, UNDER THE CAB AND NOT IN A LOCATION WHERE DAMAGE OR WEAR SHOULD OCCUR. THE VEHICLE IS TOO NEW AND HAS LOW MILES (55K) AND THIS FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. *JB

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE RESPONDED TO THE EMERGENCY CALL. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE FUSE BOX CAUSED THE FIRE. AFTER PICKING UP HIS VEHICLE HE CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT TAKES LONGER FOR HIM TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THAN EXPECTED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAS GOTTEN NO RESOLUTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY DAY HE DRIVES THE VEHICLE REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER OR ROAD CONDITIONS.

ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED EVERY TIME I USE MY BRAKES. MY TRUCK NEEDS LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I ALMOST GOT INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT. THERE IS A RECALL ON 1999-2002 CHEVY SILVERADO ANTI-LOCK BRAKES IN MY STATE OF MICHIGAN BUT I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A NOTICE AND GM SAYS I WILL NOT GET ONE. I OWN A 2002 SILVERADO. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 7 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THERE WAS NO BRAKING ACTION WHEN TRYING TO STOP. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED TO ALERT THE DRIVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO INDICATED THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) HAD A RECALL # 05V379000 REGARDING SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK, FOR THOSE VEHICLES DUE TO A SPEED SENSOR FAILURE. ALL VEHICLES OPERATED IN SALT BELT STATES MAY BE AFFECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND INDICATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN, AND THE COMPANY WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE SPEED SENSOR, WHICH WAS THE AFFECTED COMPONENT OF THE ABS, WAS MANUFACTURED IN THE SAME PLANT FOR ALL GENERAL MOTORS VEHICLES. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE A COPY OF THE COMPLAINT TAKEN BACK IN AUGUST WAS NEVER RECEIVED.

MY SUBMISSION PERTAINS TO CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V37900. I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM YOUR OFFICE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS ON GUAM AS WELL AS THE OTHER STATES YOU HAVE MENTIONED IN T THE RECALL REPORT. IT OCCURS IN BOTH MY VEHICLES 1999 GMC YUKON 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO BOTH OF WHICH I BELIEVE HAVE RECALLS PERTAINING TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 67 MPH OVER A BRIDGE WITH BRAKE PRESSURE APPLIED, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE VEHICLE STRUCK THE BRIDGE. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 10/4/2006 - THE INSPECTOR DID FIND FOUR CODES STORED FOR THE BRAKES. GM EXPLAINED THAT THIS FAILURE WAS NOT THE RESULT OF THE OPEN RECALL 05V379000 WHICH HAD NOT YET BEEN PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAB AND BOX. *NM
MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO IN THE FALL OF 2002. IN THE FALL OF 2004, WE NOTICED A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN WE WOULD MAKE TURNS. WE HAD IT CHECKED OUT TO FIND THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS WORN. AFTER WAITING 6 MONTHS TO FINALLY RECEIVE A PHONE CALL FROM THE BILL JACOBS DEALERSHIP IN JOLIET, I CALLED AND FOUND OUT THAT THE PART HAD BEEN THERE AND WE PROCEEDED TO HAVE THE REPLACEMENT MADE. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET CORPORATION AND FILED MY COMPLAINT. FOURTEEN MONTHS AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE "NEW GM PART" HAS WORN OUT! I WAS TOLD BY THE CHEV. CORP. THAT I WOULD HAVE TO SCHEDULE FOR ANOTHER TEST AND THEN THEY WOULD PROCEED AFTER I CONTACTED THEM WITH THE RESULTS FROM THE TEST. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE US, THE CONSUMERS, $105.00 TO CHECK IT OUT. WE DO NOT FEEL WE SHOULD PAY OUT THIS MONEY WHEN WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR A FAULTY PART? THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 05V379000, PERTAINING TO CORROSION OF THE ANTILOCK SERVICE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, HE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. HE HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND ASKED THE MECHANIC IF HE COULD EXAMINE THE BRAKES. HE NOTICED A CHUNKY RUST BUILD-UP ON THE BACK SURFACE OF THE BRAKES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE MOST LIKELY WEARING AT AN ANGLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD PROBABLY NEED NEW ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS INSTALLED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000.

ABS SYSTEM FAILURE ABS LIGHT ON 77,000 MILES 2002 SILVERADO GM WILL NOT ADMIT IT HAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE ABS SYSTEM - AFTER SEARCHING THE INTERNET I FIND THERE ARE AN ABUNDANT OF ABS FAILURES. *JB
IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000, I LIVE IN THE WESTERN MOUNTAINS OF VIRGINIA AND I AM HAVING THE IDENTICAL PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE ABOVE MENTIONED RECALL. I DON'T THINK GM REALIZE THAT THERE IS A PART OF VIRGINIA, LIKE WEST VIRGINIA, THAT GETS A LOT OF CHLORIDE ON THE ROADS IN THE WINTER MONTHS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT 3 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNWARRANTED ABS ACTIVATION HINDERING THE BRAKES FROM STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES WERE INSPECTED AND CLEANED BY DEALER'S MECHANIC. THIS INCIDENT RELATES TO GM'S RECALL # 05068 (WHEEL SPEED SENSOR). I OWN A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2WD. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES AND COMING TO A STOP, THERE IS A PULSATION. IT FEELS AS IF THE ABS IS TAKING OVER AND RELEASING, AND THEN REAPPLYING THE BRAKING ACTION, RAPIDLY, AS I COME TO A STOP. I SPOKE TO A GM REPRESENTATIVE ABOUT A RECALL THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. THE GM RECALL NUMBER IS 05068. THE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, BUT BECAUSE I DON'T LIVE IN A "SALT BELT" STATE, MY VEHICLE IS NOT BEING RECALLED (I LIVE IN FLORIDA). APPARENTLY, IT IS THE ROAD SALT THAT IS USED DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THAT CORRODES THE ABS WHEEL SENSORS AND LEADS TO THIS PROBLEM. AND, ALTHOUGH I DO NOT LIVE IN A STATE THAT USES ROAD SALT, I DO USE MY VEHICLE TO TOW AND LAUNCH A BOAT IN THE SALT WATER. I BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE OF THIS USE, MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS INTERMITTENTLY WORKED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER CIRCUIT BOARD MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACED. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE WIPER WASHER SWITCH, MOTOR, AND THE MODULE WHICH CORRECTED THE PROBLEM.
NO PREVIOUS ISSUES LEADING UP TO HOOD LATCH FAILURE - ROUTINE USE OF HOOD LATCH MECHANISM. HOOD LATCH FAILED DURING TRAVEL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VERY FORTUNATE TO EXIT HIGHWAY AFTER SEEING HOOD RISING. THE FOUR WELD SEAMS HOLDING LATCH BODY TO TRUCK FRAME FAILED. WELD SEAMS REMAINED ON TRUCK FRAMEWORK WHILE HOOD LATCH BODY SHOWED MATERIAL FAILURE. POINTS OF HOOD LATCH CONNECTION AFTER FAILURE -> LATCH HOOK CONNECTED UNDER HOOD; THE HOOD LATCH CABLE CONNECTED. FAILED HOOD LATCH REMAINS AVAILABLE. *JB
THE PARKING BRAKE HAS FAILED ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, AS HAS BEEN DESCRIBED IN THE GM RECALL NUMBER 05042. THE FRICTION LININGS HAVE WORN AND CUT INTO THE DRUM, MAKING THE PARKING BRAKE INEFFECTIVE. A GM REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS NOT RECALLED, AND THE ONLY VEHICLES RECALLED WERE VEHICLES THAT HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION. MINE HAS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, DUE TO THE FACT THAT I HAVE TO PARK ON STEEP BOAT RAMPS WHILE LAUNCHING MY BOAT, AND HAVE TO DEPEND ON THE PARKING BRAKE TO HELP HOLD THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING INTO THE WATER. *NM
ENGINE WILL CUT-OFF WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT WARNING AT BOTH HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. IMMEDIATE ENGINE RESTART MAY OR MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE. PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR W/O PERMANENT FAILURE AND W/O USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC CODES. FREQUENCY OF FAILURE HAS INCREASED TO 2-3 TIMES PER WEEK. SEVERAL ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN NARROWLY AVOIDED WHILE IN HEAVY, HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC. NO DISCERNIBLE FAILURE PATTERN HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED, TO DATE. ENGINE CUT-OFF CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE PARKING BRAKE ON 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUPS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS STARTING APR 20, 2005. HOWEVER, I DO NOT KNOW OF A SINGLE 2002 SILVERADO PICKUP OR 2001 SUBURBAN WHERE THE PARKING BRAKE HOLDS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT IF YOU DON'T USE THE PARKING BRAKE IT GETS OUT OF ADJUSTMENT (RUMOR). I DON'T USE MINE WITH MY AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. MINE HAS NEVER HELD SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. TUESDAY, MAY 23, 2006, I TOOK MY PICKUP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED FOR A NEW INSPECTION STICKER. IT FAILED BECAUSE OF THE PARKING BRAKE. YET, THIS SAME DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED MY PICKUP FOR EVERY OTHER INSPECTION STICKER AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY FAILED IT EVEN THOUGH IT HAS NEVER HELD.
I DRIVE A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71. IN NOVEMBER 2004 THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WOULD ACTIVATE EVERY TIME I WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 10 MPH. I TOOK IT TO THE GM SERVICE AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE HUB ASSEMBLY BECAUSE THE SENSORS WERE CORRODED. A RECALL WAS ISSUED ON THE SENSOR PROBLEM. RECENTLY I HAVE AN ABS LIGHT THAT COMES ON EVERYTIME I START MOVING. OCCASIONALLY THE BRAKE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON. I TOOK IT IN TO GM SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ABS PUMP ASSY AND MODULE WERE BOTH BROKEN AND REPAIR COSTS WOULD BE ABOUT $2000. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES WORKED FINE, I JUST WOULDN'T HAVE THE ABS FEATURE. HOWEVER I BELIEVE THE ABS SYSTEM IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE ON A VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY IN AREAS THAT EXPERIENCE INCLEMENT WEATHER. IN ADDITION, THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT THE ABS LIGHT IS TRIGGERING THE OCCASIONAL BRAKE LIGHT. THE FALSE POSITIVE IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE COMPLACENCY WHERE DRIVERS WOULD IGNORE A REAL BRAKE FAILURE. I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE FOR AUTOMOBILE COMPONENTS TO LAST INDEFINITELY. HOWEVER, IT'S OBVIOUS THAT GENERAL MOTORS TRUCKS HAVE EFFICIENT BRAKE SYSTEMS, ESPECIALLY CONCERNING THE ABS. *JB
I OWN A 2002 CHEVY TRUCK THAT HAD THE TAILGATE CABLES RECALLED. THE SAME CABLE MATERIAL WAS USED TO HOLD UP THE SPARE TIRE BUT WAS NOT RECALLED. AFTER ONLY 4 YEARS OF SERVICE THIS CABLE FAILED RELEASING THE SPARE TIRE INTO TRAFFIC AFTER DOING DAMAGE TO THE BACK OF MY TRUCK BREAKING WIRES AND PLASTIC PARTS. THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAD TO RETRIEVE THE SPARE TIRE FROM THE DITCH. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE DAMAGE AS OF YET BECAUSE I FEEL IT SHOULD BE FIXED BY GM. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM THAN THE TAILGATE CABLES. *JB

DURING PANIC BRAKING, THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND FAILS TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THIS WAS THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. *AK UPDATED 7/31/2006 - THE VEHICLE ABS HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE, ONCE UNDER RECALL. THE PEDAL BECOMES SPONGY AT TIME AND CAN BE PRESSED WITH LITTLE EFFORT. THE BRAKES WERE TURNED AT 2900 MILES THEN HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 300 MILES. NOW AT 19000 MILES THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS NEED TO BE REPLACED. *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS PUT INTO DRIVE AND DRIVEN 50 YARDS AND THEN PLACED INTO PARK. WHILE IN PARK THE WHINING NOISE PERSISTED AND THE SPEEDOMETER WENT FROM 0 TO 20. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION WHO DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACED. UPDATED 5/23/2006 - *NM
