OUR SILVERADO HAS THE EXACT PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN RECALL #05V37900 FOR THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. BECAUSE WE ARE NOT CONSIDERED A "SALT BELT" STATE G.M. WILL NOT RECALL OUR TRUCK.*JB
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS 2002 CHEVROLET DUMP TRUCK. WHEN HE FIRST BOUGHT IT THE BRAKES WERE BAD. HE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY PUT NEW ROTORS ON THE FRONT. HE WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, AND HE TOOK IT BACK, AND THEY SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE. HE TOOK IT TO MIDAS, AND THE BACK ROTORS WERE SHOT. THEY PUT NEW BRAKES AND ROTORS ON THE BACK. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THEY REPLACED THE SENSOR. THE REAR END WAS BAD. THEY REBUILT THE REAR END. THEN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED, *AK AND THEY PUT NEW MANIFOLDS ON IT. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES WHEN COMING TO ALMOST A COMPLETE STOP THE SENSOR THAT DETECTS ABS KICKS IN AND VEHICLE JUST KEEPS GOING. THIS HAPPENS AT LOW SPEEDS OF 5 MPH OR LESS. ONCE THE ABS KICKS IN IT ALMOST SEEMS LIKE VEHICLE ACCELERATES. HE NOTICED THIS ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO. MECHANIC HAD HIM CALL THE GM DEALER , AND THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM. BUT BECAUSE THERE WAS NOT A RECALL THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. ALSO CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND GO FROM THERE. WHEN THE CONTACT BOUGHT THE TRUCK IT HAD 19,000 MILES ON IT. AT 21,000 THERE WERE BRAKE PROBLEMS. HAD NEW ROTORS/PADS PUT ON THE BACK, RESURFACED THE FRONT AND PUT PADS ON THE FRONT. AT 37,000 THE CONTACT WAS ON A TRIP AND THE BRAKES STARTING CLATTERING AND SCREECHING FROM THE BACK. THEY TOLD HIM THE DISCS WERE SO RUSTED THEY DESTROYED THE BRAKE PADS, AND HE HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING.*AK
I OWN A 2002 CHEV K2500HD. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS, BUT WAS UNAWARE OF THIS SITE TO REPORT THESE PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. FIRST, THE DRYER SWITCH ON THE AC WENT BAD @ 34K. SECOND,@ 65K I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY AS TALKED ABOUT IN ONE OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS I READ. THIRD, @ 95K MY TRANSFER CASE DEVELOPED A LEAK AND I LOST ALL THE FLUID. A CHEVROLET MECHANIC SHOWED ME A TRANSFER CASE THAT HAD GONE BAD DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAD BEEN USED IN 4WD W/OUT FLUID IN IT. ANOTHER CHEVROLET MECHANIC TOLD ME HE HAD SEEN SEVERAL OF THESE AND THAT "JB WELD IS YOUR FRIEND". SO I PATCHED THE HOLE, AND 10K LATER IT DEVELOPED A SECOND LEAK IN A SIMILAR LOCATION AND ALSO ABOUT THIS SAME TIME AN ELECTRICAL PART (ABOUT $550) WENT OUT FOR MY 4WD. NOW AT 130K IT HAS DEVELOPED A THIRD LEAK! ALSO STARTING @ APPROXIMATELY 50K, MY REAR DIFFERENTIAL HAS LOCKED UP ON ME SEVERAL TIMES AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE 4 CABLES ON MY TAILGATE. AFTER BEING A CHEVY MAN ALL MY LIFE I THINK I WILL LOOK AT TOYOTA. *NM
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4, 60,000 MILES, ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEEDS (5-0 MPH)WHEN STOPPING. WAS TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM WHEN VEHICLE WAS NEW, WITH UNSATISFACTORY RESULTS,(PROBLEM WAS TEMPORARILY FIXED, BUT ULTIMATELY RETURNED). THE PROBLEM REMAINS TO THIS DAY. I HAVE HEARD OF MANY OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM, EVEN A RECALL IN CANADA TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. JEFF PLUNGIS OF THE DETROIT NEWS WROTE AN ARTICLE IN LATE MAY/EARLY JUNE ABOUT THIS ONGOING PROBLEM GM HAS. SO FAR THERE HAS BEEN NO DAMAGE OR ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, JUST A FEW CLOSE CALLS. BUT MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE TRUCK. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES GM WILL OWN UP TO THIS FAILURE AND RECALL THESE VEHICLES TO FINALLY MAKE THE CORRECT REPAIRS. *JB
THE PARKING BRAKE ON MY CHEVY TRUCK FROM THE DAY I PURCHASED IT HAS BEEN WEAK. I SELDOM USE IT AND HAVE NEVER DRIVEN IT WHILE ENGAGED, HOWEVER IT HAS COMPLETELY WORN OUT THE SHOES AND DESTROYED MY ROTOR/DRUMS. I HAD NOT NOTICED IT UNTIL I RECENTLY TRIED TO OBTAIN AN INSPECTION. THE ATTENDANT THEN IMMEDIATELY PROCEEDED TO CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE AND INFORMED ME THAT IT DID NOT WORK AND IT COSTS $400 TO $500 TO REPAIR. HE ALSO STATED THAT ALL CHEVY TRUCKS OF THESE YEARS ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM THANKFUL THAT I HAD NOT ENCOUNTERED A SITUATION WHERE I WOULD NEED IT AS IT HAD WORN ITSELF OUT WITHOUT EVEN BEING USED. *JB
UPON STOPPING AT VERY SLOW SPEED, THE ABS BRAKES FELT LIKE THEY ACTIVATED, CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKING POWER, CAUSING COLLISION WITH PARKED VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO SHOP, DIAGNOSTIC SHOWED FAULTY FRONT/LEFT SPEED SENSOR. THIS PART WAS REPLACED, VEHICLE WAS ROAD TESTED, AND ALL APPEARED TO BE OKAY. AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN 300 MILES, VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEMS. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 2500 HD 4 WHEEL DRIVE REGULAR CAB. HE WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT REAR DISC BRAKES. DURING STATE INSPECTION ON AUGUST 5, 2005 THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR BRAKES WORE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE HAD 29,800 MILES ON IT. THE REAR PADS WORE OUT AND THE ROTORS WERE ROUGH AND NEEDED TO BE TURNED. HE THEN CONTACTED MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER SERVICE, WHO PUT HIM THROUGH TO SWEENEY CHEVROLET, AND THE DEALER TOLD HIM THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS RUST ON THE REAR ROTORS THE PADS WORE OUT. THE CONSUMER ASKED DEALER WHY THE FRONT BRAKES DID NOT WEAR OUT, AND DEALER DID NOT HAVE AN ANSWER. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT HELP WITH BILL, HE WAS TOLD BY SWEENEY CHEVROLET THAT ROTORS COULD BE BE TURNED AND SAVED. IF ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED THEN THEY MAY HAVE BEEB GIVEN SOME ASSISTANCE. A MANUFACTURER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED THE CONSUMER BACK AND ASKED IF PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED, AND HE TOLD HER THAT PROBLEM STILL REMAINED. UNRESOLVED. *AK.
ABS SENSORS HAVE FAILED ON FRONT WHEELS CAUSING ABS TO ENGAGE EACH TIME THE VEHICLE SLOWS TO A STOP. STOPPING IS UNPREDICTABLE. ONE CRASH WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED WHEN THE FRONT BRAKES DID LOCK UP AT THE LAST SECOND. APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN SCHEDULED TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT HUBS AT MY COST.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS SLOWING TO A STOP AND ALMOST STOPPED THE ABS ACTIVATE AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE COASTING. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS HOWEVER, LUCKILY NO COLLISIONS HAVE HAPPENED YET. THE VEHICLE IS SCHEDULED TO GO INTO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR ON SEPTEMBER 16TH. THE PROBLEM IS CONTINUOUS AND HAPPENS ABOUT 5 OUT OF 10 STOPS. *JB
DT: THE REVERSE GEAR WENT OUT IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT COST $800.00 TO FIX. TOOK VEHICLE TO MORRIS TRANSMISSION SERVICE, AND THE DEALER RECOMMENDED TO THEM THAT SINCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THEY HAVE BEEN AFTER GM TO CHANGE IT BECAUSE IT WAS THE SAME PART THAT BROKE EVERY TIME. IT WAS NOT A STRONG ENOUGH PART FOR THE TRANSMISSION. THIS HAPPENED AROUND AUGUST 4, 2005. *AK *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED ALL 4 ROTORS HAD DETERIORATED. THE ROTORS WERE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY. UPDATED 5/2/2006 - *NM
I HAVE A 2002 CHEVROLET 2500 4X4. I NOTICED THE REAR BRAKES WERE GETTING VERY HOT. I PULLED THE REAR WHEELS AND NOTICED THE ROTORS HAD RUST PITS IN THEM WHICH I BELIEVE CAUSED THE BRAKE PADS TO WEAR PREMATURELY. THE FRONT PADS AND ROTORS ARE FINE. I HAD THE REAR ROTORS MACHINED AND REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS. *NM
DT: THE BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED AND FELL APART. CONSUMER NOTICED THIS PROBLEM AUGUST 1, 2005. BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, THEN BEGAN TO PULSATE. CONSUMER ARRANGED AN APPOINTMENT ON AUGUST 10, 2005 FOR DEALER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER SAID HE WAS AWARE OF SOMEONE ELSE WITH SAME PROBLEM, AND THE PERSON HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED. *AK
2002 CHEVY 1500 SILVERADO ANTI LOCK BRAKE FAILURE.AT SLOW SPEED STOPING BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR,ANTI LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE,TRUCK WON'T STOP,GRINDING TYPE NOISES COMING FROM BRAKES,AT 25,000 MILES ALL 4 ROTORS WERE BADLY RUSTED AND WORN.REPLACE ALL ROTORS AND SHOES,STILL HAD PROBLEM. HAD ALL SPEED SENSORS ON METER,SHOWS NO PROBLEM.HAVE READ ARTICLES AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR AND THAT CHEVY HAD RECALL IN CANADA BUT NOT U.S. I HAVE CAME CLOSE TO REAR ENDING CARS IN FRONT OF ME.THIS VEHICLE IS A HAZZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED.
DT: CONTACT OWNED A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BEGAN TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WENT INTO PASSING GEAR CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER LET OFF THE GAS AND THE VEHICLE SHIFTED INTO ANOTHER GEAR. WHILE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE GARAGE CONSUMER REALIZED THERE WAS NO REVERSE AND IT WAS SHIFTING ODDLY. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WILL HAVE TO BE REPAIRED, BUT DID NOT KNOW THE CAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THERE HAD BEEN NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION AND THE VEHICLE HAS MINIMAL USAGE. THE WARRANTY OF THE VEHICLE WAS FOR 3 YEARS/36,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000 MILES WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED.*AK
ABS SYSTEM OPERATING DURING SLOW SPEED STOPS INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE DRASTICALY. DEALER REMOVED AND CLEANED FROMT ABS SENSORS AT OUR EXPENCE. HAD TO REPLACE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS AS CALIPERS WERE STUCK AND ROTORS APPEARED TO SWELL AND PEAL APART
DT: CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM STARTED ON 7-22-05. WHILE COMING TO A STOP AT 4-5 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED. THIS OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE CONSUMER APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. THE CONSUMER HAS MADE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. HE DID SO BECAUSE HE COULD NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNLESS IT WAS REPAIRED. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST HIM BECAUSE HE REPAIRED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. ALSO,THEY TOLD HIM THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. *AK
AT LOW SPEEDS THE FRONT ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ON MY 2002 CHEVERLOT SILVERADO 4WD TRUCK ENGAGE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP. IF NOT FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I WOULD HAVE HIT A CAR PULLING INTO THE GAS STATION. *NM

THE DEALER SAID THAT RECALL 05V379000 DID NOT APPLY TO THE STATE WHERE THE CONSUMER LIVED. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES. *AK
WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO STOP, THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES TAKE OVER AND THE VEHICLE WILL SLIDE OR BECOME UNABLE TO BE STOPPED. ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION, I HAVE NEARLY HIT SOMEONE OR A PARKED VEHICLE, AS I AM UNABLE TO CONTROL THE BRAKING MECHANISM OF MY VEHICLE. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR BECOME INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. AT THIS TIME, THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A FORMAL RECALL, BUT ONLY AN INVESTIGATION. ON A DAILY BASIS, I TRANSPORT MY FAMILY, AND FEAR THAT I WILL HAVE AN AUTO ACCIDENT THAT MAY CAUSE THEM OR SOMEONE ELSE HARM. I AM LOOKING INTO HAVING THE SENSORS REPLACED, AND AWAITING AN ESTIMATE TO DO SO. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYTHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO RECTIFY, WHAT I AND MANY OTHERS FEEL IS A VEHICLE DEFECT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK). THE DEALER CLEANED THE SPEED SENSOR, BUT DID NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS. THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED AND THE BRAKES STICK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT LOW SPEEDS. ON THE FOURTH TRIP TO THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT NO FAILURES COULD BE FOUND. SHE IS UNSURE IF THE DEALER WILL REPLACE OR CLEAN THE SENSOR, BUT SHE REQUESTED THAT IT BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED WITH A RE-MANUFACTURED PART IN JULY OF 2005 AT 18,031 MILES. IN NOVEMBER OF 2006, AT 29,650 MILES, THE STEERING SHAFT WAS LUBED. IN APRIL OF 2008, AT 43,194 MILES, THE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED A SECOND TIME. CURRENTLY, AT 56,000 MILES, THE VEHICLE IS STILL EXPERIENCING ISSUES. THE DEALER MUST CHECK AND REPLACE THE SHAFT FAILURES EVERY 25,000 MILES. LASTLY, THE REAR BRAKE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED FOUR TIMES AND ALL OF THE WINDOW REGULATORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER TO HAVE ALL OF THE ISSUES REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,031. UPDATED 07/02/09. *LJ

THERE WAS GM NHTSA RECALL 05V379/ GEM RECALL 05068 A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER,THEY TOLD HIM THAT THE RECALL WAS NOT OFFICIAL YET. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATED BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. ALL 4 ROTORS WERE RUSTED AFTER 14,000 MILES. HE NOTICED THIS APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AGO AFTER TAKING THE TRUCK ON A TRIP. WHEN HE TOOK VEHICLE TO SERVICE DEALER HE WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED. HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS BECAUSE HE DID NOT DRIVE THIS TRUCK VERY MUCH. A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO WITH ONLY 14,000 MILES ON IT. HAS BEEN ON THE INTERNET AND SAW WHERE HE SAW SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKES FAILING. *AK
DT: A NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL AREA. THE CONSUMER NOTICED IT WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEEDS. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY DID NOT HEAR THE NOISE, AND DID NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM THE CONSUMER WAS UNSURE OF THE EXACT PROBLEM. IT FIRST STARTED OCCURRING ON 7-14-05. *AK
2001 TO 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND GMC SIERRA WITH 6.6L DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINES. THE FUEL INJECTORS ON THESE ENGINES WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL DUE TO THE FUEL INJECTOR BODY CRACKS OR BALL SEAT EROSION. *MR GM MAINTAINS THAT THIS WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *SC *JB
DT: AT SLOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. BRAKE HAD TO BE PUMPED TO STOP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, AND THE HUB ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. CALLER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS GETTING WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS.*AK
EMERGENCY BRAKE STOPPED WORKING ON MY 2002 CHEVROLET TAHOE AFTER 34,757 MILES. A PROPERLY WORKING EMERGENCY BRAKE IS CRITICAL, AS MY THREE SMALL CHILDREN RIDE IN AND PLAY AROUND THIS VEHICLE.

THE DELAER TOLD HER ON 11-05-29005 THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INVOLVED ON 11-05-05 THE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE.*AK
DT: CONTACT STATES WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH THERE WAS A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *AK
DT: THE STEERING IS DIFFICULT TO STEER WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS AT LOW SPEED. TOOK TO A DEALER FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THE DEALER THOUGHT THIS TO BE A POWER STEERING PUMP FAILURE. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED AND STEERING GEARBOX AS WELL. DEALER SAID THE GEARBOX WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE. NO PROBLEMS SINCE THE REPAIR. *NM THE STEERING GEAR BOX HAD BEEN REPAIR BEFORE PER A SERVICE BULLETIN. *NM
LOW SPEED ACTIVATION OF ABS SYSTEM FOR NO REASON. HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM YET.
I CURRENTLY AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS SENSOR ON MY 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500 PICKUP TRUCK. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND AN INVESTIGATION THAT IS OPEN ON THIS PROBLEM. THE TRUCK IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS AS DESCRIBED IN THE INVESTIGATION REPORT, AND ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS IN THE PAST MONTH OR SO THE TRUCK HAS HAD TROUBLE STOPPING. I AM TAKING IT IN FOR SERVICE TOMORROW, AS THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS. I WOULD LIKE ADD MY COMPLAINT TO THE FILE TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF ANOTHER PERSON EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE CURRENTLY 45,000 MILES ON THIS TRUCK. I AM SUBMITTING 15 FAILURES, BUT IT HAS TROUBLE ALMOST EVERY TIME I STOP, AND HAS FOR THE PAST MONTH. UNFORTUNATELY I DIDN'T HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX IT UNTIL NOW, SO I ONLY DROVE IT SPARINGLY. *NM
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO. THIS PAST JULY I LOWERED THE SPARE TIRE FOR THE FIRST TIME TO CLEAN OFF MUD AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE WERE FOUR LOCATIONS ON THE SIDE WALL OF TIRE THAT WERE WORN AWAY. THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE BED OF THE TRUCK. THE TIRE WAS SECURE AND HAD THE PROPER TIRE INFLATION. I CHECK THE PRESSURE ABOUT 4-5 TIMES A YEAR WHILE IT IS STILL SECURED UNDER THE TRUCK. I CONTACTED GM AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE TIRE TO MY LOCAL DEALER. SERVICE MANAGER SAW THE TIRE AND STATED HE SEES THIS ALL THE TIME AND BELIEVES IT IS A DESIGN FLAW ESPECIALLY IN THE S-10 PICK UPS. HE ADVISED ME NOT TO USE THE TIRE. IT IS TO DANGEROUS. I PURCHASED A NEW TIRE TO REPLACE THE SPARE AND NOW IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET GM TO REPAY THAT COST. THEY HAVE DENIED ALL REQUESTS SO FAR STATING I DID NOT ROTATE TIRES PROPERLY. IN THE SERVICE BOOK THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO ROTATE TIRES ONE INCLUDES THE SPARE AND THE OTHER DOES NOT. I DID THE ONE THAT SHOWED THE FOUR TIRE ROTATION NOT FIVE BECAUSE THE SPARE IS A STEEL RIM NOT ALUMINUM LIKE THE OTHER FOUR DRIVE WHEELS. I AM LUCKY THAT I REMOVED THE SPARE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS JUST FOR CLEANING AND NOT AT NIGHT WHEN I HAD TOO. THE DAMAGED SIDEWALL OF TIRE IS ON THE INSIDE ONCE ON THE TRUCK AND I WOULD NEVER HAD SEEN THE DAMAGE HAD IT BEEN AT NIGHT. I ALSO PULL A CAMPER WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE RESULTS OF HAVING THE SIDE WALL BLOW OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS PULLING A CAMPER SCARED ME. AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, I HAVE REPLACED THE SPARE WITH NEW TIRE. BUT WHAT WILL KEEP THE DAMAGE FROM OCCURRING AGAIN ? I GUESS I WILL HAVE TO KEEP MOVING THE SPARE TIRE. GM SHOULD REDESIGN THE TIRE HOLDER OR PROVIDE SOME TYPE OF CUSHION BETWEEN TIRE AND BED OF TRUCK. I AM SURE THAT HAD I HAD A FLAT TIRE AND USED THE SPARE EARLIER IN THE TRUCKS LIFE THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. I HAVE THE TIRE AND CAN PROVIDE PICTURES UPON REQUEST. DT: 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500, THE VEHICLE BRAKES AND ROTORS ARE EXCESSIVELY WORN OUT AND CORRODED TO THE POINT OF FAILURE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WILL NOT STOP OR HOLD THE VEHICLE IN PLACE, AND THE CONSUMER HAS ONLY PUT 12,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, CONSUMER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THEY TOLD CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, THE MANUFACTURER GAVE THE CONSUMER A SERVICE REQUEST ORDER # 1-346253-537. THERE WERE NO OTHER SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. *AK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PEDAL KICKS UP AND THE VEHICLE IS DIFFICULT TO STOP. THE STOPPING DISTANCE HAS AT LEAST DOUBLED. I FOUND THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SPEED SENSOR QUIT WORKING WITH 37000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. I UNPLUGGED THE SENSOR AND THE BRAKES ARE WORKING FINE (WITHOUT ANTI LOCK BRAKES).
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE RIGHT REAR BRAKES WERE GRINDING. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER ON 6-27-05 AND THEY REPLACED REAR ROTORS AND PADS. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE PEDAL JERKED/ PULSATED WHEN PUT THE BRAKE ON. IT HAPPENED AT ANY SPEED. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 05V790000 DUE TO VIN. WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR LEAKS AND DRAINS TOTALLY EMPTY UPON ACTIVATING WIPER SWITCH. THE HOSE"BLOWS"OUT OF THE UNIT. I HAVE HAD TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE THREE TIMES(INCLUDING TODAY) AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM AS YET.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ARE KICKING IN AT LOW RATE OF SPEED MAKING IT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP QUICKLY. *JB
DEFECTIVE ELECTRIC WINDOW ON DRIVERS SIDE. WINDOW WILL NOT GO UP.
DT: THE CONSUME STATES THAT THE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT HOLDING ON 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THE OWNER HAS TAKEN THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CLASSIFIED IT AS A NORMAL WEAR ITEM. THEY DEALER IS NOT GOING TO REPLACE THIS FOR FREE. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS BUT NOT THE AUTOMATIC. BUT THE OWNER SAYS THAT THEY SHARE THE SAME PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM. THE OWNER HAS CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM,, AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. NHTSA RECALL 05V161000. ON MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THE OWNER WAS GOING TO HAVE THIS FIXED, BUT IT WILL BE AT HIS EXPENSE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK. THERE IS ABOUT 60% OF THE BRAKE LINING LEFT ON THE BACK BRAKES. THE OWNER IS PUSHING THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR AND IT IS NOT WORKING. *AK
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
ON JUNE 17, 2005, I FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL OF MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO TRUCK [XXX] PULSATE WHEN I CAME TO A STOP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EXIT RAMP FROM I-75. THIS LASTED FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS, AND THE TRUCK TOOK A COUPLE OF EXTRA FEET TO STOP. I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON MY 1998 CHEVY LUMINA SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THAT PROBLEM COST OVER $ 500 TO REPAIR. THE LUMINA HAD 49K MILES, BUT THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 18.5K MILES. THE ONLY THING IN COMMON WITH THESE TWO VEHICLES IS THAT I SWITCH OFF ON DRIVING THEM, SOMETIMES LETTING ONE OR THE OTHER STAY PARKED FOR A WEEK OR TWO, DEPENDING ON WHAT KIND OF WORK I AM DOING. THIS TIME, WITH THE SILVERADO, NO ABS OR BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON, SO I ASSUMED THAT THE SYSTEM HAD JUST DETECTED SOME MINOR SLIDING OF ONE OF THE WHEELS AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP, POSSIBLY FROM SOME LOOSE GRAVEL OR ROCKS. LATER THAT DAY, I DECIDED TO STOP AT THE LOCAL HOME DEPOT, ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. WHEN I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND COULD HEAR THE ABS PUMP (?) WORKING VERY HARD. THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL, AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM DID NOT SEEM TO BE STOPPING ANY OF THE WHEELS. I ONLY HAD A FRACTION OF A SECOND TO REACT, SO I THREW THE TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE. THIS STOPPED THE FORWARD MOTION OF THE TRUCK, AND I PUT IT INTO PARK, BEFORE IT COULD MOVE ANY MORE. I ENDED UP STOPPED ABOUT A FOOT FROM THE REAR BUMPER OF THE CAR IN THE SPACE AHEAD OF ME. IF A PEDESTRIAN HAD RUN OUT IN FRONT OF ME EARLIER, AND I HAD BEEN UNABLE TO STOP, THEY MIGHT HAVE BEEN KILLED. THROUGH ALL THIS, NONE OF THE ABS, BRAKE, OR CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. I DO NOT THINK THAT A VEHICLE WITH THIS LOW MILEAGE SHOULD HAVE SUCH A POTENTIALLY FATAL PROBLEM, AND THE ABS COMPONENTS SHOULD NOT CORRODE, AS THEY DID IN THE LUMINA, AND POSSIBLY IN THE SILVERADO, IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEN REGULARLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED. THIS VEHICLE IS ON ITS FIRST SET OF REAR BRAKES. THE FRONT BRAKES ARE ORIGINAL. THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE APPROXIMATELY SEVENTY PERCENT WEAR REMAINING. CONSUMER IS REPLACING THE REAR BRAKES AND ROTORS. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLETINS #1336875, AND #00-05-23-005B. THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING IN THE REAR AND THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED.*AK *M
IN MAY OF 2005 WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT AT SLOW SPEED, ON DRY PAVEMENT, THE ABS BRAKES, IN MY 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO REQUIRE A GREATER THAN NORMAL STOPPING DISTANCE. NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE INCIDENT SEEMED ISOLATED. THEN IN JUNE, THE PROBLEM CONTINUED AND BECAME MORE AND MORE FREQUENT. WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT A SLOW SPEED I WAS JUST BARELY ABLE TO COME TO A STOP WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE PARKING SPACE. ALTHOUGH NO PARTICULAR ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 19,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO HADAD CHEVROLET IN PITTSFIELD, MA WHERE WE WERE TOLD IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $270 AND $920 TO FIX. WE HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET TO SEE IF THE MANUFACTURER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FIXING THE PROBLEM BUT THEY HAD NOT EVEN HEARD OF THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT YET BEEN CORRECTED AS WE ARE INVESTIGATED THE MANUFACTURER'S RESPONSIBILITY AND THE MOST ECONOMICAL REPAIR FOR OUR PROBLEM. *JB
SAFETY ISSUE: 2002 CHEVY 3500 1 TON DUALLY (53,000 MILES). TRUCK BRAKES STARTING ACTING FUNNY. TAKE TRUCK DEALERSHIP FOR BRAKE INSPECTION. DEALER CHARGE $$ FOR INSPECTION AND INFORMED US THAT ALL 4 BRAKE ROTORS WERE ROTTEN (BEYOND REPAIR). NOT WORE BUT ROTTEN. SEEMS THEY USE RE-CYCLED MATERIAL IN THEIR BRAKE ROTORS. SEEM THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE ROTORS COULD FAIL COMPLETED DUE TO ROT AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO LOSE BRAKES. COST OF REPLACEMENT IS $2000.

DT:CONSUMER PURCHASED VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THERE WAS AN ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM AS A FEATURE AND THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE. CONSUMER WAS DRIVING IN SKOKIE A SUBURB OF CHICAGO, WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO STEERING NO BRAKES NO CONTROL OF ANY KIND. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO FLASH. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO FORCE ENOUGH STEERING SO THAT SHE COULD MERGE OFF THE ROAD INTO A DRIVEWAY AND BUSHES THAT HELPED CONSUMER BRING VEHICLE TO A STOP. CONSUMER NOTICED A MESSAGE THAT CAME UP ON MESSAGE PANEL OF INSTRUMENT PANEL. MESSAGE READ SECURITY, AND CONSUMER FOUND LATER THAT OWNERS MANUAL SAID THAT THIS MESSAGE WAS INFORMING VEHICLE DRIVER OF A SECURITY LOCK, WHICH MEANS THAT THE VEHICLE SHUTS DOWN TO KEEP FROM BEING STOLEN. WHEN CONSUMER WAS TOWED TO DEALER, DEALER TOLD CONSUMER THAT FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AND THIS ENGAGED THE PASS LOCK FEATURE. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE HAD SEVERE CONSEQUENCES. DEALER SAID THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM COULD BE ENGAGED BY OTHER SIMPLE WAYS, LIKE PUTTING THE WRONG KEY IN THE IGNITION, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE SYSTEM. *JB

THERE HAS BEEN A DIFFERENT ELECTRICAL COMPONENT EACH TIME THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED. THE MANUFACTURER WILL WARRANTY THE PARTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPLACED.*AK
