I WAS DRIVING ON A WET ROAD IN A 2002 CHEVY SILVERADO WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO HYDROPLANE OUT OF CONTROL OFF THE ROAD. I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH AT THE TIME. HAVE THERE BEEN ANY STUDIES ON THE PEROFRMACE OF VEHICLES UNDER SLICK ROAD CONDITIONS? ARE TRUCKS MORE LIKELY TO HYDROPLANE THAN OTHER TYPES OF AUTOMOBILE? SINCE THIS INCIDENT I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS.*AK

I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CURVY MAOUNTAIN ROAD AND STEERING TO THE LEFT IN A TURN. MY STEERING LOCKED UP AND I HAD NO CONTROL. I GOT THE TRUCK STOPPED BEFORE WE WENT OVER A SEVERAL HUNDRED FOOT DROP. I HAD MY WIFE, 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, AND 6 MONTH OLD SON IN THE TRUCK WITH ME. I GOT THE STEERING UNLOCKED AND DROVE HOME. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID SINCE THEY CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM THEY WILL NOT FIX OR REPLACE ANYTHING IN THE FRONT END OR STEERING WITHOUT DUPLICATING THE PROBLEM. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A TRUCK THAT HAS DONE THIS. I USALLY HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME IN A TRUCK THAT IS UNSAFE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT HE WILL NOT AUTHORIZE ANY REPAIR WITHOUT DUPLICATION. I ASKED HIM WHY HE WOULD SEND A TRUCK OUT THAT WAS UNSAFE. ALL HE COULD SAY WAS I CARE BUT NO REPAIRS WITHOUT DUPLICATION. I CONACTED GM AND I AM WAITING A REPLY.
WHEN ON AN INCLINE, THE DRIVER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE ROLLED THREE TO FIVE FEET BEFORE STOPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER, THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE INCIDENT RECURRED ON 3/14/04, IN WHICH THE VEHICLE ROLLED 5 OR MORE FEET BEFORE STOPPING. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND WERE WAITING FOR A RESPONSE FROM GM. *SC *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY .PASSENGER WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH WHEN PASSING OVER A BRIDGE ON A RAINY DAY, AND WATER FROM THE RIVER WAS SPLASHED ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. MANUFACTURE WAS NOT CONTACTED AT THE TIME OF THIS PHONE CALL. *AK

(2)2002 SILVERADO HD'S( 4X4) WITH 5600 & 5800 ODOMETER READINGS. WHEN BACKING UP VEHICLES AT APPROX. 7 MILES PER HR AND LETTING OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL A SINGLE CLUNKING NOISE COMES FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE.DEALER CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT THE CLUNKING NOISE IS.
VEHICLE ROLLED BACK WHILE IN PARK. TRUCK WAS FOUND AGAINST THE HOUSE WITH THE DOORS LOCKED AND STILL IN PARK. EMERGENCY BRAKE IS TYPICALLY ENGAGED BECAUSE IT IS PARKED ON A SLOPE DRIVE BUT IT WAS FOUND DISENGAGED. WHILE BEING TOWED IT ALSO ROLLED WHILE LOADING ONTO THE TOW TRUCK. AGAIN, IT WAS IN PARK WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ENGAGED. VEHICLE WAS LOOKED AT BY TWO SEPARATE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WITH NO CAUSE FOUND. DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE TRUCK AND THE HOME BUT SINCE GM COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL DAMAGES. WILL MOST LIKELY GET RID OF THE VEHICLE (TRADING IT IN AT SAME DEALER WHO SOLD AND SERVICED IT) BECAUSE WE DO NOT FEEL SAFE LEAVING THE VEHICLE UNATTENDED. TS
THERE IS KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. DUE TO MISSING PISTON FROM THE ENGINE PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION DEALER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. TS
THE POWER STEERING PUMP FAILED CAUSING THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE SYSTEMS TO FAIL AT THE SAME TIME. THE GARAGE STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHAFT BROKE. THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE GARAGE SAID THAT THEY HAVE REPAIRED SEVERAL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM AND ARE STARTING TO SEE MORE OF THESE FAILURES. THE GARAGE DID A FINE JOB ON THE REPAIRS. HOWEVER, THIS COULD BE POTENTIALLY BE A VERY, VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION, ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THOUGHT YOU SHOULD BE MADE AWARE. THE CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE IN THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY GREASED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, BUT THE REMEDY ONLY LASTED 5000 MILES. PLEASE DESCRIBE FURTHER. *JB THE THUMP NOISE WAS HEARD INSIDE THE CAB AND FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE DASH. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN REPAIR FOUR TIMES AND THE CHANGED THE STEERING BOX ON THE 3RD VISIT. THE NEW BOX STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. ON THE FOURTH REPAIR THE STEERING BOX WAS GREASED. WHEN THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM IT WORSENED QUICKLY AND FELT LIKE THE WHEEL WERE LOOSE. THE STEERING WOULD CRUNCH IN THE CONSUMER'S HAND AND FELT LOOSE. THE DEALER ONLY MADE TEMPORARY REPAIRS. *SC
THE DURAMAX DIESEL ENGINE HAS A LOUD TICKING NOISE. BULLETIN #02-06-01-022A SAYS THAT ALL THE ENGINES HAVE IT, BUT THAT IT CAN'T BE HEARD IN SOME. GM'S ATTITUDE IS "LIVE WITH IT!!!", WE ARE NOT FIXING IT.*AK A A
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN HIT AT 55 MPH IN THE FRONT CENTER OF THE VEHICLE THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO THE CONSUMER. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
DT: CONSUMER STATES: THE FUEL RETURN LINES AND FUEL RAILS WHEN THEY COME APART THE DIESEL AND OIL MIX TOGETHER AND SHOOTS OUT AND COATS THE REAR WINDSHIELD. ALSO, COATS THE SIDES OF THE TRUCK AND ALL OVER THE TAILGATE IN VERY LARGE AMOUNTS. THIS WAS 3RD TIME THAT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND HAD IT FIXED.*AK
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT IN 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO RATTLES SINCE NEW. TEMPORARY FIX HAS BEEN TO GREASE THE SHAFT EVERY FEW MONTHS. NOW GM SAYS DON'T GREASE THE SHAFT, REPLACE IT WITH NEW DESIGN, BUT OF COURSE, THERE ISN'T ANY WARRANTY NOW. *JB
2002 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK HAS STEERING POPPING. REPAIRED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY. NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 36,000 MILES AND IS IN GREAT SHAPE OTHERWISE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OVER AND OVER. THIS COULD BECOME A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF THE STEERING FAILS. G.M. CONSUMER STATES THAT PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT LOCKS ONTO PASSENGER AND DOES NOT ALLOW ANY MOVEMENT. SEAT BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED BY DLR 3X. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. MR
I HAD TWO INSIDE DOOR PANEL REPLACED ALREADY. THESE TWO THINGS WERE FIXED FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, IT GETS WORSE WHEN IT IS COLDER. FUEL GAUGE IS INACCURATE AND JUMPS AROUND WHEN TRUCK IS NOT IN A MOVING GEAR. I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THE LAST TWO, BECAUSE CHEVY SAYS THE TRUCK IS WORKING WITHIN "NORMAL CHEVY PARAMETER". I HAVE ASKED MANY MECHANICS AND THEY SAY EITHER ONE SHOULD BE HAPPENING. THE DATE BELOW IS AN APPROXIMATE TIME THE LAST TWO STARTED. I ALSO HAVE HAD IT IN TWICE FOR BOTH OF THESE PROBLEMS. *JB
THIS VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD-ON COLLISION WHILE TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. MR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BECAME INOPERABLE . A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON SIMILAR MAKES AND MODELS, HOWEVER THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDE DUE THE VIN#. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED.PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *NLM
AT FIRST 1200 MILES ORIGINAL TIRES HAD FLAT SPOTS ALL AROUND AND CHOPPING UP. *AK
WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP ON DRY PAVEMENT UNDER MODERATE TO LIGHT BRAKING, ONCE THE VEHICLE FALLS BELOW ABOUT 3 MPH (I.E., IN THE LAST FEW FEET BEFORE A COMPLETE STOP), A SHUDDER IS FELT IN THE BRAKE PEDAL LASTING 1 TO 1-1/2 SECONDS. THE SHUDDERING IN THE PEDAL IS ACCOMPANIED BY A STUTTERING SOUND. THE VEHICLE STOPS NORMALLY --SO FAR -- EXCEPT FOR THE VIBRATION AND NOISE. THIS HAPPENS ON 30%-50% OF THE STOPS; THE REST OF THE TIME THERE IS NO NOISE AND NO SHUDDERING IN THE BRAKE PEDAL. DEALER HAS TRIED TWICE TO FIX PROBLEM, BUT TODAY WAS TOLD BY CHEVROLET TECH REP THAT THIS CONDITION IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THEIR TRACTION CONTROL/ABS SYSTEM AND WILL NOT AUTHORIZE ANY FURTHER WORK BY THE DEALER! I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS A "NORMAL CONDITION" AND AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR MORE CATASTROPHIC PROBLEMS SHOULD THIS CONDITION REMAIN UNCORRECTED.*AK
DURAMAX ENGINE, THE ENGINE WAS TICKING WHEN VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED (600 MILES), DEALER STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. THIS TICKING SOUND HAS GOTTEN WORSE, DEALER STILL SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. TS
IN DIRECT FRONTAL IMPACT AT 45 MPH, AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY.*AK
VEHICLE LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD - PURCHASED NEW. LABEL (AIRBAG WARNING/CHILD RESTRAINT INSTALLATION) ON FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT PEELED OFF.
WHILE DRIVING AT 45-50 MPH AND UPON COMING TO A THREE WAY STOP SIGN BRAKES FAILED, AND CONSUMER COLLIDED HEAD ON INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE IMPACT CAUSED SEAT BELTS TO BECOME UNDONE, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. CONSUMER SUSTAINED A BROKEN STERNUM AND FACIAL FRACTURES. MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 72 MPH CONSUMER HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE HEAD ON AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ACTED LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE.AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELARATED AT SPEED OF 90 MPH. RPM 6000. I DID ALL POSSIBLE TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE AN BRING IT TO A STOP BY PUTTING THE TRUCK IN NEUTRAL AND SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE. FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 7-4-02, AFTER THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED BY WHEELER MOTORS , CHEBOYGAN MICH. I WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I ALSO HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED BY JAMES CHEVROLET CLINTON TWP. MI. THEY ALSO SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM. ON 8-21-02 WHILE TRAVELING AT 70MPH ON I-75 THE VEHICLE AGAIN ACCELARETED ON ITS OWN TO A SPEED CLOSE TO 90MPH. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND IT TOOK ALL THE BRAKING POWER AVAILABLE TO SLOW DOWN THE TRUCK AND BRING IT TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY SAFELY. THIS TIME WHEN RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE RPM IMMEDIATELY (IN PARK) SOARED TO 6000 RPM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO MARTIN CHEVROLET, SAGINAW, MICH. AT HIS POINT I HAVE NO RESULTS OF WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. I CALLED GM ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AT 1-800 CHEVROLET-USA. THEY DISPATCHED A TOW TRUCK. I ALSO CALLED THE MICH. STATE POLICE TO ASSIST AND VERIFY THAT THE INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED.*AK
2002 SILVERADO 1500 2WD REG CAB,PURCHASED ON 11-21-01. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT 2 DEALERSHIPS. MECHANICS CAN ONLY RESOLVE PROBLEM FOR A SHORT PERIOD. SEEMS LIKE A RECALL IS NEEDED.*AK REPAIRED ON 8-22-02 TOWING REQUIRED REPLACED DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR INSTALLED INSULATION ON A/C LINE (LEAKING WATER INTO DISTRIBUTOR CAP) REPAIRED 10-29-02 TOWING REQUIRED LEAKING WATER IN DISTRIBUTING HOUSING REPLACED DISTRIBUTOR HOUSING CAP AND ROTOR REINSULATE A/C SUCTION LINE REPAIRED 10-3-03 TOWING REQUIRED LEAKING WATER IN DISTRUBUTOR CAP. REPLACED CAP AND ROTOR REPAIRED 12-30-03 TOWING REQUIRED REPLACED CORRODED CAP AND ROTOR DUE TO MOISTURE . 1-28-04 TOWING REQUIRED WAITING FOR THE FINDING OF THE REPAIRS ANTICIPATING SAME RESULTS.
VEHICLE VIBRATES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND MAKES A RATTLING NOISE IN REAR OF VEHICLE. TOOK TO DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED DRIVESHAFT. PROBLEM STILL REOCCURS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THERE IS A STRONG VIBRATION, AND A RATTLE NOISE IN THE REAR OF VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY TIGHTENED UP SOME PARTS, BUT PROBLEM REOCCURRED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 20MPH ON A SIDE STREET AND THERE WAS A CONCRETE PIPE LAYING ON THE ROAD, AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING SHE HIT THE PIPE. AIRBAGS DIDN'T GO OFF. AT DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.THE PIPE WAS A BROKE OFF LIGHT POLE. THE FRAME ON THE VEHICLE IS BENT. *JG
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION WITH A TREE TRAVELING APPROXIMATLY 30-40MPH, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH AND AS A RESULT OF A VEHICLE CRASH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK *SLC
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE SHE WAS HIT HEAD ON THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE. THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE AIRBAGS DIDNT HAVE TO DEPLOY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY DURING BOTH HITS, CONSUMER WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. *JG
I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP AT A RED LIGHT WHEN A YOUNG LADY RAN THE LIGHT FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. SHE HIT ANOTHER TRUCK THEN CROSSED OVER INTO MY LANE HITTING ME ON MY RIGHT FRONT BUMPER. LESS THAN 3 SECONDS LATER THE OTHER TRUCK HIT ME HEAD ON AT 35-40 MPH HEAD ON. THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO THROW ME BACKWARDS INTO SOME MOTORCYCLES BEHIND ME. MY FRONTAL AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING EITHER HIT. *MR
I HAVE HAD THREE MIRRORS INSTALLED ON THE TRUCK UNDER WARRANTY AND HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ALL THREE MIRRORS, WHEN I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE TO WORK EVERY DAY THE MIRROR VIBRATES SO BAD I CANT SEE ANYTHING OUT OF THE MIRROR AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK TO 2 CHEVROLET DEALERS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER CARE AND HAVE A FILE NUMBER ON THE CASE BUT THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO FIX ALSO AND OFFERED ME 2 FREE OIL CHANGES TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM I DECLINED THERE OFFER BUT DO NOT NO WHAT I SHOULD DO AT THIS POINT. DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS ARE A CONSTANT PROBLEM FOR US, AND IF YOU CHECK OUT OTHER VEHICLES APPROCHING YOU AND A LIGHT IS OUT NINE TIMES OUT OF TEN IT'S A GM PRODUCT. IF GM USES THEM TO SELL THEIR PRODUCT THEY SHOULD WORK, JUST ASK A SERVICE DESK AT ANY DEALERSHIP AND YOU WILL GET THE SAME ANSWERE. ALL YEARS NOT JUST ONE. *AK
NO ROAD HAZARD CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE TIRE. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS APPROXIMATELY 103F. COMPLETE SEPARATION OF TREAD FROM SIDEWALL. NOTHING REMAINED ON RIM BUT SIDEWALL. BODY DAMAGE TO FENDER WELL AS WELL AS RUBBER BURN MARKS, DUE TO CENTRIPETAL FORCES FROM TIRE TREAD SEPARATING FROM SIDEWALL.*AK

2002 CHEVY DURAMAX DIESEL WITH ALLISON TRANSMISSION ENGINE SURGING, LUNGING & DEAD SPOTS WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE OR BRAKE. TRANSMISSION CLUNKS & ALSO JERKS THE VEHICLE. DANGEROUS IN PARKING AREAS & WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE ONTO INCOMING TRAFFIC WHERE IS OFTEN HAS DAILY CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. *LA
CONDENSATION DRIPPING ON MY DISTRIBUTOR, CAUSED THE IGNITION TO FAIL (DISTRIBUTOR CAP) WAS FIXED BY APPLYING PLASTIC HOSE TO AC LINE THAT WAS DRIPPING ON THE DIST. CAP. (FIXED BY DEALER) BUT: THE HOSE NOW ROUTES THE WATER TO A SPARK PLUG!!! *LA
I BELIEVE THAT I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY IGNITION AND FRONT PANEL. I CAN PULL MY KEY OUT IN ANY POSITION. EVERYTHING LIGHTS UP ON THE DASHBOARD AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. IT HAS CALLED MY VEHICLE TO STALL OR EVEN SHUT DOWN ALTOGETHER. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. I HAVE HAD IT IN SEVERAL TIMES BUT AM UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE CAUSE IS.
