I WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM CHARLESTON SC ON HWY 526 GOING TO ISSLE OF PALMS SC WHEN I PUT ON BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN FOR ANOTHER CAR IN FRONT OF ME,AND THE BRAKES DIDN'T FEEL RIGHT BY THE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. I STOPPED AND SAW THE BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS OUT OF FLUID. I REFILLED THE TANK AND CONTINUED ON MY WAY. THE BRAKES WERE STILL SPONGIE, AND WHEN I GOT HOME BY DRIVING A LOT SLOWER. I MADE IT HOME AND FOUND OUT,THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE PASSENGER WHEEL WAS CORODED AND RUPTURED,MAKING IT TO LEAK AND AFFECT THE STOPPING ABILITY OF THE VECHILE. IT WAS GOOD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE TO STOP SUDDENLY OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. *JS
SEVERE CORROSION ON ALL STEEL BRAKE LINES - VERY CLOSE TO RUSTING THROUGH AT LEFT REAR CALIPER TO AXLE MOUNT AND ALONG SIDE RAIL OF FRAME. *TR
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION FROM A MECHANIC, IT WAS NOTED THAT BOTH BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTED (ONE WAS ROTTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH CAUSING THE FLUID TO LEAK FROM THE LINE). WE WERE ALSO TOLD THAT THE GAS LINE AND CALIPER HAD SEVERE ROTTING. UPON MY RESEARCH, THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET TRUCKS. I HOPE THIS WILL BE RESOLVED SO ADDITIONAL CHEVROLET OWNERS DO NOT HAVE SEVERE ACCIDENTS DUE TO THESE ISSUES. MY HUSBAND AND 4 YEAR OLD SON HAD TO WALK QUITE A FEW MILES IN 95 DEGREE WEATHER! THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I HOPE MY COMPLAINT WILL HELP FURTHER THE INVESTIGATION. *JS *TR
CAME UP TO A STOP SIGN TRIED TO STOP AND REAR BRAKE LINE BURST OPEN. COULD NOT STOP AT STOP SIGN AND WENT THROUGH INTERSECTION LUCKY NO ONE COMING. USED HAND BRAKE TO STOP TRUCK. THERE WAS NO WARNING BRAKE PEDAL JUST WENT TO THE FLOOR. HAD LINE REPAIRED FOR $252.84 AND REPAIR SHOP SAID OTHER LINES WERE REAL RUSTY AND DID NOT KNOW HOW LONG THEY WILL LAST BUT NOT LONG. *TR
ON 6/28/2012, ENCOUNTERED NO BRAKING CONDITION WHILE DRIVING AT 25-40 MPH. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO CHEVY DEALER WHO DISCOVERED ONE OF THE BRAKE LINES WAS HEAVILY RUSTED AND HAD BURST. NEW LINE INSTALLED. ON 8/10/2012 SAME CONDITION OCCURRED TO ANOTHER BRAKELINE. UPON INSPECTION, FOUND ALL LINES HEAVILY CORRODED AND NEED REPLACEMENT EXCEPT FOR THE ONE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED. *TR
MY TRUCK HAS ONLY BEEN IN PENNSYLVANIA FOR 4 YEARS AFTER BEING IN VIRGINIA SINCE NEW. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL AND MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WITH THE BRAKE ACTION LIGHT GOING OFF. INSPECTION OF BRAKE SYSTEM FOUND THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND FOUND SEVERAL SECTIONS OF THE BRAKE LINE SEVERELY CORRODED ALMOST TO THE POINT OF FAILURE. *TR
WHILE WAITING AT A STOP LIGHT WITH MY WIFE AND NEWBORN, I NOTICED THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT "SPONGY" AND HAD NO MORE RESISTANCE TO THE PRESSURE MY FOOT APPLIED TO IT. I PULLED INTO THE GAS STATION AT THE SAME SET OF STOP LIGHTS WITH MY TRANSMISSION BEING MY ONLY FORM OF VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THANKS BE TO GOD FOR KEEPING MY FAMILY AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD SAFE THAT DAY FROM THE POTENTIAL DEVASTATION THAT COULD HAVE TAKEN PLACE WITH SUCH A CRITICAL FAILURE IN THE MECHANICS OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
HOOKED UP A TRAILER AND HEADED OUT THE DRIVEWAY. WENT TO BRAKE AT DRIVEWAY/ROAD INTERSECTION, PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I PUMPED THE BRAKE FURIOUSLY TILL PEDAL WAS ALL THE WAY DOWN. THERE WAS NO BRAKING. I SWITCHED TO 4 WHEEL DRIVE, STEERED TO THE CURB AND SHUT OFF THE KEY. HAD IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED ALL BRAKE LINES WERE HEAVILY RUSTED AND ONE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND FLUID HAD BLED OUT. ALL LINES HAD TO BE REPLACED. COST WAS $985.80. *TR
FIRST FAILURE WAS THE DUAL BRAKING SYSTEM I WAS HOOKED UP TO A TRAILER AND STARTED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY (ABOUT 0.4MILE LONG) AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH WENT TO THE FLOOR BOARDS. THERE WAS NO STOPPING EFFORT FROM THE BRAKES. I USED THE MANUAL CONTROL OF THE TRAILER BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE. BOTH BRAKE LINES UNDER THE CAB AREA HAD RUSTED OUT AND RUPTURED AT THE SAME TIME. HAD I BEEN ON THE ROAD AT SPEED THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRASH. THE DEALER WHO PICKED UP THE TRUCK COMMENTED THAT THIS HAPPENS "SOMETIMES". HE REPLECED THE LINES WITH NON-GM ONES SO THEY WOULD LAST LONGER. THIS WINTER I WAS HAVING TROUBLE STARTING THE TRUCK IN COLD WEATHER AND NOTED THAT I NEEDED TO OPERATE THE MANUAL FUEL PRIMING PUMP TO GET THE TRUCK STARTED. (TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH THE OPTIONAL DIESEL ENGINE. THE DEALER WHEN WORKING ON THIS NOTED THAT THE LINES WERE VERY RUSTY AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. MY SAFETY CONCERN THIS TIME WAS THE SMALL AMOUNTS OF FUEL WEEPING OUT OF THE RUSTED AREAS UNDER THE HOOD NEAR THE EXHAUST. AND ONTO THE GROUND. IT SEEMS THAT THERE IS A GREAT AMOUNT OF RUST OCCURRING ON THE BRAKE AND FUEL LINES. THIS WORRIES ME AS THE TRUCK ONLY HAS ABOUT 36,000 MILES ON IT AND I LIVE IN A STATE (VERMONT) THAT USES SAND AND NOT SALT ON THE ROADS AND TRAVEL ONLY MINIMALLY IN SNOW WITH THE TRUCK. WHEN I WAS HAVING THE FUEL LINES REPLACED AND WHILE THERE THE OTHER TWO CUSTOMERS IN LINE WERE ALSO HAVING RUSTED BRAKE LINES REPLACED. SEEMS LIKE MORE THAN A COINCIDENCE. I HAVE REQUESTED THE RUSTED FUEL LINES FROM THE DEALER AND STILL HAVE THEM IF YOU WANT TO SEE THEM.
I HAD ONE FRONT BRAKE LINE FAIL FOUND AT TIME OF REPAIRS THE OTHER WAS STARTING TO LEAK HAD TO REPLACE BOTH LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED AN INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE DURING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED MOMENTS AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE THROUGH A CAR WASH. THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. UPDATED 8/6/12 *CN UPDATED 08/15/2012 *JS
PUT THE BRAKES ON IN TOWN OF GREENVILLE AND THEY WENT STRAIGHT TO FLOOR. REAR BRAKE LINE BLEW OVER THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. *TR
METAL BRAKE LINE BURST DUE TO CORROSION. WHEN STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ONCE HOME, I FOUND THAT A BRAKE LINE THAT RUNS ALONG THE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME HAD BURST. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON MY WAY HOME MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER CAR. I WAS ALMOST HOME AND WAS ABLE TO GET INTO THE DRIVEWAY. UNDER THE TRUCK THERE WAS BRAKE FLUID SPRAYING OUT AND THE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL MY BRAKE LINES BECAUSE THEY ARE RUSTED EVERY WHERE. THE FRAME ALSO HAS RUST EVERY WHERE. I AM TAKING PICTURES OF UNDER THE TRUCK. *TR
AN ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS EMANATING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICING DEALER DIAGNOSED RUSTED THROUGH FUEL LINES, ALL OF WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
HAD TO MAKE HARD STOP AND BRAKES FAILED, LATER IT WAS REVEALED BRAKE LINES HAD ROTTED OUT.. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS?
I WAS COMING HOME FROM THE STORE, WHEN I SAW TRAFFIC LIGHTS TURNING RED, I SLOWLY APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, IT FELT SO SOFT AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR, I TRY ONCE MORE AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AGAIN, SO THEN I TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT (EMERGENCY LINE) AND APPLIED E-BRAKES AND I STOPPED JUST BEFORE THE CROSS ROAD. WHEN I LOOKED UNDER IT WAS LEAKING IN BETWEEN THE PUMP AND THE TANK. IT WAS A FRONT BRAKE LINE THE GET SO RUST IT THAT BURST. LAST YEAR WHEN MY BROTHER IN LAW AND I WAS CHANGING BRAKE FLUID IN THE WHOLE SYSTEM THE REAR BRAKE LINE BURST. NOW I HAVE BRAKE LINES MADE OF NICKEL AND COPPER MIX, THOSE WILL LAST FOR EVER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO GO GET LUNCH I WENT TO SLOW DOWN BECAUSE OF TRAFFIC AND MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THANK GOD I DIDN'T HIT ANYONE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED HOME AND I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE TRUCK. WHEN I CLIMBED UNDER I NOTICED THE LINES WERE CORRODED AND ONE OF THE HAD RUPTURED. AFTER ALL OF THIS I STARTED TO LOOK ON THE INTERNET AND SAW THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH ALOT OF GM TRUCKS. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO RECALL YET!!! ARE THEY WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED FIRST. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I IMMEDIATELY USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. I WAS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM MY RESIDENCE SO I DROVE THE TRUCK BACK HOME USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE FLUID WAS LOW. I REFILLED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND HAD MY SON PUMP THE BRAKES AS I WAS UNDER THE TRUCK LOOKING FOR ANY VISIBLE FLUID LEAKS. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED NEAR THE FRAME RAIL. AFTER REPAIRING THE BRAKE LINE AT THE POINT OF RUPTURE WE RE-FILLED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BEGAN TO BLEED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED AGAIN AT A POINT UNDER THE DRIVERS FRONT SEAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY EXPERIENCED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION AND SURGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PILE OF BRICK BOULDERS. THE DRIVER SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE BACK SHOULDERS, AND NECK. THE THREE YEAR OLD PASSENGER IN THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT SUFFERED AN INJURED BACK. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NOT RECEIVED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AN INVESTIGATOR WAS SENT TO THE HOME TO EXAMINE THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT LOCATE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. BRAKE LINE RUSTED OUT. STARTED THE TRUCK AND WHEN I PUSHED ON THE PEDAL IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I LIVED IN INDIANA FOR 8 YEARS OF OWNING THE TRUCK. I HAVE LIVED IN FLORIDA FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. ALL LINES FROM THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK TO THE ABS MODULATOR ARE RUSTED. THE REAR LINE IS OK. THE PROBLEM IS EXACERBATED BY RUNNING THE LINES WHERE THEY ARE. THE FUEL LINES APPEAR TO HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT HAVE NOT YET FAILED. *TR
AS I APPROACHED A DANGEROUS INTERSECTION BETWEEN TWO HEAVILY TRAVELED ROADS, I APPLIED MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE AS USUAL. SUDDENLY THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY, THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WITH NO BRAKING ACTION. FORTUNATELY THE OTHER CAR APPROACHING THE INTERSECTION WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN IN TIME TO AVOID A COLLISION AS I APPLIED MY EMERGENCY BRAKE. BUT IT WAS A VERY CLOSE CALL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST GM DEALER WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT DETERMINED THE BRAKE LININGS WERE CORRODED AND RUSTED THROUGH. WHEN I SEARCHED THE INTERNET TO SEE IF SIMILAR INCIDENTS HAD OCCURRED, I FOUND MANY DOZENS OF EXAMPLES. (SEE LINK BELOW) THE USE OF AN INFERIOR ALLOY INSTEAD OF STAINLESS STEEL FOR THE BRAKE LINES HAS RESULTED IN CORROSION AND TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE WITH NO WARNING SIGNS, ESPECIALLY IN STATES LIKE NJ SUBJECT TO WINTER CONDITIONS. THIS BRAKE FAILURE PROBLEM HAS BEEN THE SUBJECT OF AN INVESTIGATION BY THE NHTSA., BUT NO RECALLS WERE ISSUED. OWNERS OF MILLIONS OF GM VEHICLES ARE AT SERIOUS RISK OF INJURY AND DEATH FROM THIS POTENTIALLY FATAL DESIGN FLAW. RECALL NOTICES SHOULD BE SENT TO OWNERS AND GM SHOULD PAY FOR REPAIRS IN THE INTEREST OF THE SAFETY OF ITS CUSTOMERS. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN BLOWING HOT AIR WHEN ON COOL. WHEN IT STARTED DOING IT, I NOTICED SPARKS COMING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE MY AC UNIT. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I BELIEVE THAT MY ACTUATOR BLEND DOORS NEED TO BE REPLACED BUT DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. *TR
THE BRAKES WENT OUT WITHOUT WARNING ALL BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
STEEL BRAKE LINE TO REAR OF TRUCK RUSTED THROUGH, WHICH CAUSED BRAKE FLUID TO LEAK OUT & SYSTEM COULD NOT GENERATE SUFFICIENT PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. FORTUNATELY TRAFFIC WAS RELATIVELY LIGHT AND I HAD A SIGNIFICANT GAP IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY SEVERAL TIMES PRIOR IN THE SAME TRIP, AND NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, EVEN DURING THE FAILURE. AT THE NEXT KEY OFF & ON, THE WARNING LIGHT DID ACTUALLY COME ON. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES TO STOP ABRUPTLY WHEN TRAFFIC STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. FOUND BRAKE FLUID RUNNING DOWN FRONT DRIVERS SIDE FRAME. STEEL BRAKE LINES SEVERELY ROTTEN ALL OVER TRUCK. *TR
My engine has been giving me lean condition codes p0171, p0174 and truck is lacking performance really bad and coolant problems too please message me back
BRAKES FAILED WILE DRIVING, HAD TO USE MECHANICAL EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. COMPLETED STOP ACROSS TWO TRAFFIC LANES, ON COMING TRAFFIC STOPPED IN TIME TO AVOID ACCIDENT. BRAKE LINES "RUSTED" THROUGH AND BLOW OUT LETTING ALL BRAKE FLUID SPRAYED OUT ONTO STREET. *TR
COMING TO A RED LIGHT AT A MAJOR INTERSECTION AND APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL SUDDENLY WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE TRUCK WENT THRU A RED LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT W/ THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. INSPECTION REVELED THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS INOPERABLE AND THE PLASTIC WIRES THAT CAME FROM THE UNIT WERE MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS ADDRESSING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REPEATED THOSE SENTIMENTS. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
WAS TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND HAD TO MAKE A HARD BRAKE APPLICATION DUE TO UNANTICIPATED VEHICLE STOPPAGE AHEAD. WHEN SPEED DECLINED TO ABOUT 25 MPH THERE WAS TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I THOUGHT THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM WAS ENGAGING SINCE THE PAVEMENT WAS WET ALTHOUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL SEEMED TO GO FARTHER DOWN THAN NORMAL. AT THIS TIME THE MULTIPLE BRAKE SERVICE WARNINGS CAME ON. JUST AS I WAS BEGINNING TO VEER OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID REARENDING THE CAR AHEAD, IT STARTED MOVING AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID HITTING IT. I DROVE HOME ABOUT ANOTHER MILE AND THE BRAKE LINES WERE LEAKING ONTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES AND BOTH FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS DUE TO CORROSION. *TR
MY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I WAS BACKING MY TRUCK UP TO HOOK UP MY BOAT. WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY TRUCK THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. WHEN I INSPECTED WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING FROM IT WAS FROM SEVERELY RUSTED BRAKE LINE THAT BURST. THE OTHER BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED AS WELL. I HAVE NO BRAKES WHAT SO EVER. I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ESPECIALLY TOWING MY BOAT. *TR
I WAS COMING TO A VERY SLOW STOP WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALMOST TO THE FLOOR. I TESTED THE BRAKE SEVERAL TIMES WHILE MOVING VERY SLOWLY, AND THE PEDAL CONTINUED TO GO TO THE FLOOR WITH A SWOOSHING SOUND. I HAD SOMEONE CHECK UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE I DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, AND HE CONFIRMED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS SHOOTING ALL OVER. MY TRUCK IS 9 YEARS OLD BUT IT HAS ONLY 50,000 MILES, THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND HAS HAD ONLY 2 BRAKES REPLACED JUST RECENTLY I BELIEVE THAT IT IS PREMATURE FOR THE BRAKE LINES TO HAVE SUFFERED A COMPLETE BLOWOUT. MY FORMER CHEVY TRUCK WHICH I HAD FOR 13 YEARS HAD NO PROBLEM WITH BRAKE LINES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED A DEER IN THE ROAD AND IMMEDIATELY ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL.THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN OFF THE ROAD AND OVER A DITCH IN ORDER TO STOP AND AVOID CRASHING INTO THE DEER. THE CONTACT SUFFERED NO PERSONAL INJURY. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED NO DAMAGE AND WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LINE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THERE WAS AN OPEN AND CLOSED INVESTIGATION FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP10003 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 144,000.
WHEN I GOT HOME TODAY I NOTICED A CLEAR PUDDLE UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR AXLE. UPON INVESTIGATING THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK I SPOTTED A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE. I FOLLOWED THE LINE TOWARD THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND FOUND SEVERAL PLACES WHERE THE LINE WAS SEVERALLY CORRODED. THIS IS PLAINLY THE RESULT OF INFERIOR MATERIALS USED BY GM IN THEIR VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKES LINES COMPLETELY RUSTED AND FRACTURED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS MOST LIKELY CAUSED BY THE ROAD SALTS USED IN THE WINTER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE CONTACT NOTICED BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM THE BRAKE LINES. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE THEY REPLACED ALL THE BRAKE LINES. THEY ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE CALIPERS. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES COVERING THE FAILURE. THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL LINES WERE ALSO ROTTED AND CORRODED. THIS WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,900. ON APRIL 19, 2012, THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THAT TWO OR THREE OF MY 2003 CHEVROLET SILVERADO DIESEL FUEL INJECTORS, PART# 97729095, NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND RECOMMENDED ALL EIGHT FUEL INJECTORS SHOULD BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $5,260,18. I ASKED IF THIS REPAIR WAS COVERED BY CHEVROLET AND THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE SAID MY TRUCK DID NOT QUALIFY BECAUSE THE TIME LIMIT HAD EXPIRED. HE SAID IF THE VEHICLES FUEL INJECTORS HAD FAILED WITHIN THE FIRST 200,000 MILES OR WITHIN THE FIRST SEVEN YEARS THEY WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL INJECTORS AT NO COST. ON THAT DATE, APRIL 19, 2012 MY VEHICLE HAD 36,273 MILES AND WAS 9 YEARS OLD, I ASKED WHY THE DEALERSHIP HADN'T NOTIFIED ME OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO NOTIFY ME AND REFUSED TO REPLACE/REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE FUEL INJECTORS. *TR
COMMING TO A STOP LIGHT I WAS SLOWING DOWN AND WHEN I WENT TO COME TO A FINAL STOP THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND I ROLLED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. I HAVE OWNED A LOT OF CARS AND NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I HAD THIS HAPPEN EVEN IN THE OLDEST OF CARS OR TRUCKS, BEFORE THIS WITH ONLY 20000.00 MILES ON THE TRUCK I HAD TO REPLACE ALL FOUR ROTORS DUE TO SUCH BAD CORROSION THAT THEY COULD NOT BE CUT. AND NOW WITH ONLY 75000.00 MILES I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES FOR THE SAME REASON. *JS
I WAS TOWING A NEW RANGER BASS BOAT HOME FROM FISHING. I WAS COMING DOWN HILL TOWARD A STOP SIGN AT A INTERSECTION AND WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES. THE CHECK BRAKES CAME UP ON INFO CENTER. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO JAM IT DOWN IN TO FIRST GEAR AND USE PARKING BREAK TO GET IT SLOWED ENOUGH TO TURN. IT WAS ALSO A 55MPH SPEED LIMIT ROAD. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS COMING. I GOT PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND CHECKED WHAT WAS GOING ON. THE HARD BREAK LINE GOING TO THE DRIVER SIDE REAR WAS BLOWN APART. IT HAD RUSTED COMPLETELY IN HALF. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THE LINES THEY ARE ALL IN EXTREMELY BAD SHAPE. THEY ARE ALL RUSTED AND NOW STARTING TO LEAK IN PLACES. ALONG WITH THAT MY GAS LINE IS NOW RUSTED IN HALF AND NOW LEAKING. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR
RUSTED BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHILE BRAKING AND CAUSED IMMEDIATE LOSS OF BRAKING CONTROL. THE RUPTURED BRAKE LINE IS GROUPED TIGHTLY WITH TWO OTHER LINES, THUS IT IS CAPTURING SALT & WATER CAUSING CORROSION. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO ACTUATE PARKING BRAKE TO AVOID CRASH AND INJURIES TO OTHERS. *TR
BRAKE LINING HAS PREMATURE RUST, IN WHICH, CAUSED IT TO LEAK AND FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE. I WAS THE FOURTH VEHICLE TO PULL UP TO A RED LIGHT, WHEN I NOTICED THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ANY BRAKES. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 45 MPH AT THIS ROAD LOCATION AND I WAS TRYING TO SLOW MY ACCELERATION TO COME TO A STOP. THE BRAKE WENT TO THE FLOOR ON MY FIRST ATTEMPT TO SLOW DOWN AND COME TO A STOP. I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO STOP MY TRUCK BEFORE HITTING THE SMALLER CAR IN FRONT OF ME! I SWUNG MY TRUCK TO THE BURM OF THE ROAD AND PASSED ALL THE VEHICLES STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT, EVENTUALLY GOING THROUGH THE LIGHT BY WAY OF THE BURM OF THE ROAD. MY DRIVER SIDE MIRROR WAS BROKEN IN THIS INCIDENT. THE BRAKES DID SLOW ME DOWN AND ALLOW ME TO COME TO A STOP WITH THE USE OF MY EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT, IT WAS AFTER MY VEHICLE PASSED ALL THE CARS STOPPED AT THE RED LIGHT AND ME STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. LUCKY THERE WAS NO CARS IN THE WAY! THE BRAKES HAD SOME STOPPING POWER BUT, WERE NOT ENOUGH FOR THIS SIZE TRUCK AND THE PEDAL DID NOT ENGAGE TILL IT WAS JUST ABOUT TO THE FLOOR. *JS BROKEN LINING HAS BEEN REPLACED BY INSPECTION MECHANIC BUT, STATED HE WILL NOT INSPECT THIS VEHICLE UNTIL ALL THE LINES ARE REPLACED. HE HAS STATED THAT ALL THE LINES HAVE PREMATURE RUST AND COULD BREAK AT ANY TIME AND WILL NOT TAKE THE RESPONSIBLILTY TO SAY THEY ARE OKAY TO PASS INSPECTION. I ALSO, HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 FACTORY BRAKE ROTORS AT 14,752 MILES. THE BRAKE PADS WORE OUT PREMATURELY AND WHEN I HAD MY MECHANIC REPLACE THEM, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS WERE RUSTED AND PITTED PREMATURELY. I STILL HAVE THEM, I CAN'T BELEIVE HOW BAD THEY DETERORATED! I WAS SURPRISED WITH SUCH LITTLE MILEAGE THAT THE ROTORS AND BRAKES WENT BAD.

MY WIFE AND I WERE COMMUTING TO WORK THE MORNING OF 4/6/2012. A CAR IN FRONT OF US PUT THEIR BLINKER ON TO TURN LEFT...I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND TO MY SURPRISE THE BRAKES FAILED!! THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM AND WITH THE LOW MILES OF THE TRUCK AND BEING THE ORIGINAL OWNER I KNEW THAT PROPER MAINTENANCE OF THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN DONE. BY THE GRACE OF GOD I WAS ABLE TO BARELY MISS HITTING THIS VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF 45MPH. IF THE CAR HAD TO HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP I WOULD HAVE NO DOUBT PLOWED INTO THE REAR OF THE CAR WITH MORE THAN LIKELY RESULTING IN VERY SERIOUS INJURIES. AFTER THE INCIDENT AND TAKING THE TRUCK TO THE GARAGE I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS IS SOMEWHAT BECOMING A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH CERTAIN GM VEHICLES PRODUCED BETWEEN 1999 AND 2003. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED EXTENSIVE RUST ON ALL SIX BRAKE LINES, CALIPERS, AND THE UNDERCARRIAGE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPAIRED ALL SIX BRAKE LINES AND REPLACED THE CALIPERS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, I.E., WERE OPERATING PERFECTLY FINE UP UNTIL THE FAILURE AND NO WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO OUR DEALERSHIP; ALL BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF ALMOST $1500. REGULAR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED ON TRUCK THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE BY THE SAME DEALERSHIP. GM REFUSES TO COVER COST. HAVE ANOTHER CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD, A 2004, AND WILL NEED TO HAVE DEALERSHIP CHECK THE BRAKE LINES ON THAT TRUCK AND POSSIBLY REPLACE THE LINES, FOR ADDITIONAL COST. COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED; COULD HAVE KILLED OTHERS. NEVER RECEIVED ANY COMMUNICATION FROM GM, CHEVROLET OR THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT I HAVE THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED OR INSPECTED. ADVISED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE MAKE MODEL AND YEAR. WE HAD TWO BREAKS AND LOST ALL BRAKE FLUID INSTANTLY. REPAIR SHOP SAID THE ENTIRE SYSTEM OF BRAKE LININGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED IN OUR TRUCK AT A COST OF $827.00! *JS
