SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. *TR
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON 2004 CHEVROLET 2500 HD STARTS GOING OUT AND THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER CANNOT BE DEPENDED ON. WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING AND YOU HAVE THE CRUISE CONTROL ON WHO KNOWS HOW FAST YOU ARE REALLY GOING. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL SINCE CHEVY HAS THEM DESIGNED TO WHERE THEY GENERALLY GO OUT JUST AS THE WARRANTY GOES OUT. WHY SHOULD WE WAIT UNTIL THIS CAUSES A WRECK. *NM
KNOCKING IN STEERING COLUMN. WAS LUBRICATED ONCE, PROBLEM PERSISTS. LOW SPEED KNOCKING AND "LOOSENESS" IN STEERING WHEEL. KNOCKING IS QUITE LOUD AND EVIDENT WHEN TURNING, AT LOW SPEED, OR IF ENCOUNTERING ANY BUMPS IN ROAD SURFACE. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT WARNING. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO BE CHECKED. THEY DETERMINED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL WAS FAULTY. THIS CAUSED THE SPEEDOMETER TO MALFUNCTION. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY APPROVED THE REPAIRS TO BE MADE WITHOUT COST TO THE CONTACT. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE IN MOTION THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED AND JERKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER GREASED THE DRIVESHAFT WITH HI-TEMPERATURE GREASE ON THE SPLEEN. AT 2000 MILES LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE DRIVESHAFT SHEARED, BROKE AWAY FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND REAR END. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE PULLED ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE THE DEALER REPLACED THE DRIVESHAFT AND TRANSMISSION. *AK
MY 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 HAS A FAILURE IN THE STEERING COLUMN LINKAGE WHERE IT MAKES A CLUNKING & WHINING NOISE, PRIMARILY WHEN TURNING LEFT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT MY MECHANIC TELLS ME WILL CAUSE THE STEERING TO FAIL AND THAT ALMOST ALL OF HIS CUSTOMERS WHO OWN LATE MODEL GM TRUCKS HAVE THIS FAILURE. MY DEALER, CLASSIC CHEVROLET, HAS ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE IN CHEVY TRUCKS. MY 2002 SUBURBAN HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER HAD TO REPLACE IT TWICE BEFORE IT WAS REPAIRED PROPERLY.*JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING APPROXIMATELY 14 MONTHS AFTER HE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER SHOULD BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THERE IS A POLICY THAT STATED THE FAILURE COULD BE REPAIRED IF THE VEHICLE WAS LESS THAN SEVEN YEARS OR HAD LESS THAN 70,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD MORE THAN 70,000 MILES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 164,000. UPDATED 12/27/07 *LJ UPDATED 12/12/07 *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATED VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK. HE THOUGHT HE HAD PUT THE CAR INTO PARK BUT WHEN HE BEGAN TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IT STARTED MOVING. WHEN HE LOOKED AT THE SHIFT INDICATOR IT WAS IN REVERSE. HE CHECKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS SOMETHING LODGED IN THE COLUMN SHIFT. THE CONTACT SAID HE DID NOT FIND ANYTHING LODGED IN THE COLUMN SHIFT. AT THIS POINT THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO INTO REVERSE. BUT, YESTERDAY WHEN HE WAS INSPECTING THE VEHICLE NOTICED IT WOULD ONLY GO INTO FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE COMPANY TRUCK THAT HE DROVE WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES. HE BRUISED HIS CHEST, SHIN AND TORE THE TENDON IN HIS ANKLE. THERE HAD BEEN NO ACCIDENTS IN THIS VEHICLE PRIOR TO THIS. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN AT THE SCENE. *AK
THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T READ THE CORRECT SPEED SOMETIMES I CAN BE SITTING STILL AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ 80 MPH, SOMETIMES DOING 20 MPH IT WILL READ 120 MPH. IT STARTED AT APP. 30,000 MILES IT DID IT ONCE AND THEN DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN UNTIL APP. 41,000 MILES. I HAVE APP. 56,000 MILES AND IT NEVER WORKS RIGHT NOW. THE DEALER WANTS APP $550.00 TO FIX IT. I FEEL ITS A SAFETY HAZARD THEY SHOULD FIX FOR FREE. WHEN I CALLED THE CHEVY PARTS DEPT THEY KNEW IMMEDIATELY IT WAS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. *JB
AT 35000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE DEALER REPLACED PARTS WITH THE GAS TANK/FUEL LINE DUE TO IT BEING 'PLUGGED'. 10,000 MILES LATER IT HAPPENS AGAIN BUT NO WARRANTY AND AFTER VERY DISSATISFYING SERVICE AT DEALER WE OPTED TO A NEW MECHANIC. HE RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BUT 1 WEEK LATER IT WAS ON AGAIN. THEN HE REPLACED THE EMISSIONS LINE AND 3 DAYS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. ONE DEALER STATED THAT EXCESSIVE DRIVING ON GRAVEL ROADS LEADS TO THIS PROBLEM THAT THE FUEL SYSTEM IS NOT VENTED PROPERLY. (??) WE ARE RANCHERS AND THE MAJORITY OF OUR TRAVEL TAKES US ON GRAVEL ROADS. HOPEFULLY SOMEONE FIGURES THIS ONE OUT SO IT CAN BE FIXED....
LIGHT TICKING NOISE FROM ENGINE FROM ABOUT 30,000 MILES BY 45,000 MILES THE NOISE IS MUCH MORE NOTICEABLE LIKE LIFTERS TAPPING. FAILURE WAS WITH ONE OF THE CAM SHAFT LOBES CHIPPING OFF A SUBSTANTIAL PIECE OF METAL ( BRAKE FAILURE AS OPPOSED TO BEING WIPED ). THE REPAIR HAS NOT YET BEEN COMPLETED BUT WILL REQUIRE NEW CAM SHAFT, LIFTERS, HEAD BOLTS, GASKET KIT. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND HEARD A NOISE IN THE VEHICLE. SHE THOUGHT IT WAS THE BRAKES BECAUSE IT SOUNDED LIKE METAL TO METAL. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED AT THE DEALERSHIP ONE COULD PULL THE TIRE OUT BECAUSE THE PIN THAT HELD THE AXLE HAD DROPPED DOWN INTO THE DIFFERENTIAL UNIT. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE CONTACT PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE DRIVER SIDE WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY WOULD NOT AGREE TO REPLACE THE PASSENGER SIDE EVEN UNDER THE WARRANTY. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO FAILED TO STOP AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SPEED WAS AROUND 40 MPH WHEN THE DRIVER WENT TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND THE ABS DID NOT ENGAGE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. THE CONTACT WAS STANDING UP IN THE VEHICLE AND MASHED THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR. THERE WAS PLENTY TIME TO STOP, BUT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WENT SLIDING INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS CREATED A CHAIN REACTION WITH OTHER VEHICLES. THE TOTAL OF NUMBER OF VEHICLE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT WERE FOUR. NEITHER THE DEALERSHIP NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE CONTACTED ABOUT THE BRAKE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THERE IS A PICTURE OF THE FRONT END OF THE DRIVERS VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN CHECKED FOR THE BRAKE PROBLEM BY A DEALERSHIP OR INDEPENDENT PARTY. THE PROPERTY DAMAGE DID AFFECT THREE OTHER VEHICLES.*AK UPDATED 11/29/05. *JB
REAR SEAT SEAT BELTS HAVE RELEASED BY THEMSELVES TWICE. *NM
NOTICED RATTLE IN STEERING COLUMN, TOOK TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. WAS ASKED IF I FELT IT IN THE STEERING WHEEL I REPLIED YES. WAS TOLD THE STEERING SHAFT WAS THE PROBLEM AND IT WAS REPLACED. SINCE 2004 IT HAS BEEN REPLACED NO LESS THAN 3 TIMES. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE R2000. ALSO WAS TOLD THEY HAVE REPLACED 200 STEERING SHAFTS IN VEHICLES. I FEEL WHEN THE STEERING SHAFT STARTS TO GET SLOPPY IT AFFECTS THE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT FEELS LIKE THE VEHICLE FLUTTERS ESPECIALLY ON ROUGH OR UNEVEN ROAD CONDITIONS. *TR
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 SERIES. OVER THE PAST MONTH THERE HAS BEEN A VIBRATION IN THE TRUCK. IT DOES NOT VIBRATE ALL THE TIME, BUT WHEN IT DOES IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE. IT USUALLY VIBRATES AT SPEEDS FROM 45 MPH TO 70 MPH. I HAD REPLACED THE ORIGINAL TIRES ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO AND THAT DID NOT HELP. I'VE HAD IT IN THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. THEY REPLACED A REAR U-JOINT, WHICH DID NOT HELP. THE LAST TIME IT WAS IN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN NOT FIND WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT SO IT HAS TO BE MY NEW TIRES. (MY TRUCK HAD THIS VIBRATION BEFORE I PUT NEW TIRES ON IT AND I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THIS.) THE DEALERSHIP ALSO PUT OVER 400 POUNDS OF WEIGHT IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND THAT DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN ANYTHING. I'VE ALSO HAD OTHER NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK. BRAKES, TRANSMISSION, STEERING ARM. I BELIEVE THAT THIS TRUCK IS VERY UNSAFE. WANTED TO FILE A CLAIM HOPEFULLY TO AVOID MORE SERIOUS PROBLEMS. HAVE CONTACTED LEGAL ADVISE REFERENCING THE LEMON LAW. *JB
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT 21000 MILES. *TS WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED, THE DASH READ "REDUCED ENGINE POWER." THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RE-START, STEERING AND THE BRAKING WAS LIMITED. THE VEHICLE FINALLY RESTARTED BUT THERE WAS NO POWER, THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY AND WOULD NOT TRAVEL ABOVE 3-5 MILES PER HOUR. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A THROTTLE ACTUATOR CODE. THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED. *SC
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO INTERMITTENT SPEEDOMETER FAILURE BEGAN AT AROUND 44,500 MILES WHEN OUT OF WARRANTY. OCCASIONALLY RESETS ITSELF, MOST TIMES FLUTTERS OR STICKS. GM RECALLING FOR THIS CONDITION BUT ONLY IF VEHICLE LESS THAN 70,000 MILES; MINE EXCEEDS THEIR LIMIT. UNFAIR....IF PARTS ARE DEFECTIVE, ALL SHOULD BE FIXED NO MATTER WHAT THE MILEAGE AND CONSIDERING MINE BEGAN PROBLEM AT LESS THAN 45,000 MILES. DATE BEGAN ESTIMATED BELOW. *TR

WAS TOLD THERE WERE SO MANY OWNERS WITH SAME PROBLEM AND SHOULD WAIT FOR RECALL LETTER. WHILE WAITING, MILEAGE ACCUMULATED. UNFAIR GM ONLY TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR VEHICLES WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES.....OURS HAS JUST OVER 100,000 MILES SINCE 4 YEARS OLD AND IN CALIFORNIA WE HAVE TO RELY HEAVILY ON OUR VEHICLES. *TR
ABS PUMP MOTOR RUNNING CONSTANT EVEN WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF AND KEY IS OUT. *JB
1) WHILE BACKING UP A TRAVEL TRAILER INTO MY DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AND IN ADDITION THERE WAS NO POWER BRAKE FUNCTION IN THE TRUCK. 2) WITHOUT STEERING OR BRAKING POWER THE TRUCK WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. HAD THIS EVENT OCCURRED JUST MINUTES EARLIER WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING A NARROW AND WINDING MOUNTAIN ROAD, A MAJOR CRASH WITH LIVES LOST COULD HAVE EASILY OCCURRED. 3) WE HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALER ON SEPTEMBER 26. I UNDERSTAND THAT A RECALL INVOLVING THIS PROBLEM WAS TO BE INITIATED LAST FEBRUARY, BUT WE HAVE HAD NO NOTIFICATION EVEN THOUGH WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS OF THE TRUCK AND LIVE AT THE SAME ADDRESS AS WHEN THE TRUCK WAS PURCHASED NEW. *JB
DT: THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNED. THE DRIVER'S SEAT COMPARTMENT WAS WHERE THE MOST DAMAGE WAS DONE. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN PARKED FOR THIRTY MINUTES. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS THAT THE CONSUMER WAS AWARE OFF THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE FIRE. THE DRIVER SEAT, DASH, AND DOOR WERE COMPLETELY CONSUMED BY FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS TOTALED THE TRUCK. THE DRIVER HAD LEFT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WINDOW ROLLED DOWN WHEN HE PARKED THE TRUCK. WHEN THE CONSUMER FOUND THE TRUCK ON FIRE THE WINDOW WAS ROLLED UP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOT CALLED BECAUSE THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. AN INSURANCE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE INSURANCE ADJUSTER TOOK PICTURES OF THE TRUCK. THE CONSUMER CALLED GM AND REPORTED THE FIRE. THE CONSUMER FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GM. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT SOMEONE WOULD CALL THE CONSUMER BACK SOMETIMES TODAY.*AK
DT: HAD THE VEHICLE ON THE JACK AND THE VEHICLE FELL OFF THE JACK, THIS HAPPENED ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2005. THE JACK HAS A SMALL BASE , IT'S ABOUT 4X5 OR 4X6. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY SAID TO CONTACT NHTSA. *AK *NM
REAR ROTORS FAIL AT ABOUT 30,000 MILE INTERVAL REPLACED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY --AFTER THAT IT WAS OUT OF MY POCKET. *TR
BOUGHT A 2004 CHEVORLET 2500HD USED. ONE WEEK AFTER PURCHASE THE TAILGATE BEZEL TRIM PIECE WAS LOST ON THE HIGHWAY. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE SPEEDOMETER DIES ON QUITS WORKING, OR WORKS INTEMITTENTLY SOMETIMES STICKING. *NM
STEERING MAKES LOUD CLICKING NOISE IT WAS REPAIRED AT 27,000 MILES UNDER WARRANTY AND NEEDS DONE AGAIN AT 72,000 MILES. *TR
DT: THE FUEL TANK FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THIS PROBLEM ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2005. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT TAKEN VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP YET. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THAT TWO BRACKETS BROKE, CAUSING THE TANK TO HANG CLOSE TO THE ROAD. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS TO MOVE THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE FUEL TANK BEING SO CLOSE TO THE GROUND. *AK THE FUEL TANK WAS REPAIRED. *JB
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A USED 2004 CHEV. SILVERADO PICK-UP IN 7-2005 FROM A CAR DEALER IN OUR AREA. WITHIN A SHORT TIME FRAME FROM THE PURCHASE THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY ADVISED THAT IT WOULD COST APPROX. $550.00 TO REPLACE AN SDM MODULE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL MECHANICS SINCE AND THEY ADVISED THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CHEV. SILVERADO PICK-UPS DRIVER AIR BAG. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. I BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE A DEFECTIVE COIL SPRING IN THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WHICH WILL NOT ALLOW THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG TO OPERATE. I HAVE OWNED MY 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO SINCE SEPT. OF 2004 WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. JUST RECENTLY, HOWEVER, MY POWER STEERING IS FAILING AT SPEEDS BELOW 10 MILES PER HOUR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER AND HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS IS COMMON FOR THE CAR AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. I WAS PRESENTED WITH A BULLETIN STATING AS MUCH. I BELIEVE THAT POWER STEERING LOSS AT ANY SPEED POSES A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO ME, PEDESTRIANS, AND PROPERTY. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THERE ARE MANY SILVERADO OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. FAILURE IS NOW A DAILY OCCURRENCE. PLEASE ADVISE.*JB
THE CHEVROLET HD C2500 PICK UP TRUCK MIRROR DOES NOT EXTEND FAR ENOUGH TO ALLOW FOR PROPER VISION WHEN TOWING AN EIGHT FOOT WIDE TRAILER.***TRANSFERRED TO OVSC***. *MR *JB
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO STALLED, AND DIED, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE MESSAGE CENTER ON THE DASH READ " REDUCED ENGINE POWER". *TS THE TRUCK WOULD NOT RESTART AND STEERING AND BRAKING WAS LIMITED. THE CONSUMER PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD FOR SIGNS OF FAILURE, NONE WERE FOUND. THE VEHICLE AS RESTARTED BUT IT HAD NO POWER, IDLED ROUGHLY AND WOULD GO NO FASTER THAN 3-5 MPH. THIS PROBLEM RECURRED TWO MORE TIMES. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE DEALER WITH A THROTTLE ACTUATOR CODE, THE THROTTLE WAS REPLACED. THE DEALER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE FUEL PUMP MODULE BECAUSE HE HAD REPLACED SEVERAL ON SIMILAR VEHICLE, BUT SINCE THE CODE DIDN'T COME UP DURING DIAGNOSTIC HE WAS UNSURE. THE CONSUMER MENTION A SERVICE BULLETIN (DOCUMENT ID 1538353, #PIP3022A- DATED JULY 19, 2004) WHICH THE DEALER WAS AWARE OF. THE CONSUMER HAD THE DEALER REMOVE THE TANK AND INDEED THE FUEL PUMP MODULE ON THE TRUCK HAD THE SAME PART NUMBER MENTIONED IN THE SERVICE BULLETIN. THE MANUFACTURER HAS REFUSED ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. *NM
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS THE HVAC SYSTEM SWITCHES FROM COOLING FINE TO FULL HEAT MODE. THE HVAC COMPRESSOR IS STILL RUNNING, HOWEVER SOME TYPE OF DAMPER SERVO MALFUNCTIONS TO LET IN HOT AIR (POSS FROM THE HEATER CORE AREA) OPENS FULL AND REPLACES THE COLD AIR WITH EXTREMELY HOT AIR. IT HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY 7-10 MILES ON A BAD DAY AND ONCE A DAY ON A GOOD DAY. THE ONLY REMEDY I HAVE FOUND FOR IT IS TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PLACE THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN OFF THE IGNITION, OPEN THE DOOR TO KILL THE INTERIOR POWER, CLOSE THE DOOR, RESTART THE VEHICLE. THIS SOME HOW RESETS THE DAMPER SERVO TO ITS PROPER OPERATING RANGE. *TR
AFTER PURCHASING A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z71 IN NOVEMBER 2004, MY 1ST COMPLAINTS WERE IN NOVEMBER 2004 FOR A REAR CLUNKING. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER THE DRIVESHAFT WAS REPLACED, ALONG WITH RECALLED TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLES, REAR BUMPER (RUST), SPARE TIRE GUIDE RETAINER, LICENSE PLATE LAMP LENS, AND TRANSFER COVERS, AND, EXCEPT FOR MY TIME, ALL WERE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. IN FEBRUARY 2005 I COMPLAINED OF A GRINDING NOISE IN 4 WD. 4WD TRANSFER CASE FLUID WAS DRAINED & REFILLED. IN JUNE 2005 I COMPLAINED THAT THE 4WD SWITCH WENT INTO NEUTRAL; 4WD SOFTWARE WAS REPLACED. IN AUGUST 2005 I COMPLAINED OF CLICKING IN STEERING WHEEL, BURNED OUT LIGHT BULB, AND CLUNK IN DRIVELINE; STEERING SHAFT WAS LUBRICATED, BULB WAS REPLACED, AND DRIVELINE SPLENES LUBRICATED. DRIVELINE SPLENES AGAIN LUBRICATED IN SEPTEMBER 2005. TRANSFER CASE FLUID CHANGED. COMPLAINED THAT 4WD HIGH INOPERABLE WHEN I COULDN'T PULL MY BOAT OUT OF A LAKE, BUT DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEM. IN JANUARY 2006, BOTH OUTSIDE HEATED MIRROR GLASS ASSEMBLIES AND LEFT SIDE HEATED MIRROR ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED; THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS LUBRICATED DUE TO KEY GETTING STUCK; 4WD TRANSFER CASE FLUID DRAINED & REFILLED; TRANSMISSION COLUMN SHIFTER ASSEMBLY REPLACED. IN MAY 2006, FLASHER MODULE ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED DUE TO FLASHERS GOING ON WHEN SIGNALING; TOW HAUL MODE SWITCH ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED DUE TO INDICATOR STAYING ON. PURCHASED A 24-MONTH WARRANTY. IN OCTOBER 2006, THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED AS FAN ONLY WORKED ON SETTING 5 (I WAS CHARGED $40.26 FOR A RESISTOR). REMOTES WERE PROGRAMMED FOR LIGHTS TO FLASH WITH KEYLESS. IN MARCH 2008, LEFT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED DUE TO A GRINDING NOISE; DUE TO CLUNKING NOISE, BOTH INNER TIE RODS WERE REPLACED; STEERING WHEEL NOISE WAS STILL THERE. IN APRIL 2008, HEATER CONTROL HEAD ASSEMBLY REPLACED. THE STEERING WHEEL STILL CLUNKS AND VIBRATES WHEN TURNING. I FEEL IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
DT: THE CONTAC OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION WHILE TRAVELING 65 MPH ON AUGUST 28, 2005. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON INDICATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. TRAFFIC CAME TO QUICK STOP I DID A RAPID PUSH ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND NOTHING HAPPENED NO BRAKE LOCK AT ALL AND REAR ENDED THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME, CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO FRONT OF MY VEHICLE AND MY AIR BAG DID NOT EVEN DEPLOY. *JB
DT: 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONSUMER WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON AUGUST 23, 2005. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. A DEER CAME ONTO THE ROAD, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE SWERVED TO AVOID IT, AND WENT INTO RAVINE. TOOK OUT TWO TREES. THIS DAMAGED THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME, AND IS CURRENTLY AT THE AUTO BODY SHOP. THERE HAS BEEN NO DETERMINATION AS TO WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT TAKEN. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES. SHE BRUISED THE CHEST, AND SHE HAD A BULGING DISC I NECK NEAR SPINAL CORD. *AK
TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE INITIALLY WHEN PUT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE AFTER IT HAS BEEN PARKED AND JUST BEEN STARTED . AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO LOOSE FLUID IN TORQUE CONVERTER AFTER SETTING. THIS HAS BEEN SINCE NEW AND IS GETTING WORSE.
DT: PARKING BRAKE WOULD STAY ENGAGED BUT WOULD NOT PREVENT VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS IN PLACE THE VEHICLE WOULD STILL ROLL AS IF THE PARKING BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING THE PARKING BRAKE. TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. DEALER COMPLETED THE RECALL REPAIRS. HOWEVER, THE PARKING BRAKE ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. THE PARKING BRAKE WILL STILL ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL. CONSUMER HAS NOT CONTACTED CHEVROLET MANUFACTURER. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID THIS WAS A DESIGN PROBLEM ,AND THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT HOLD A HEAVY DUTY PICKUP, AND THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO. , NO FURTHER REPAIRS. DT: 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS THAT COME ON BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THIS HAS HAPPENED EVERY TIME UNDER 50 MPH. WAS ABLE TO BE PULL OVER THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT IMMEDIATELY. THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED IT VOIDED THE CHIPS MEMORY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SIX TIMES. THE CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER,AND THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER SENT CHEVROLET A REGISTERED LETTER WITH THE INFORMATION, THE CLAIM WAS DENIED. THE PROBLEM STARTED ON JUNE 29, 2005, AND THE LAST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS AUGUST 19, 2005. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED 80,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK ON START UP, CAUSED ROLLOVER. ONE PERSON INJURED. TOTAL LOSS OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES NOT STOPPING THE VEHICLE. HAD IT IN TWICE FOR THE BRAKES, DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THIS IS THE WAY THERE SUPPOSE TO BE. I KEPT ON COMPLAINING THAT THESE BRAKES WERE NOT RIGHT. EXAMPLE: WHEN I TRIED TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE KEPT ON ROLLING, AND I WOULD YELL STOP, STOP. I ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPING AN INCH WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS. ALMOST LOSING CONTROL AND CAUSING INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO PROPERTY. G.M. REFUSES TO FIX OR REPLACE AS VEHICLE WAS 2000 MI OVER WARRANTY. *JB
I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK IN FEB 2004 AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR WIRING HARNESS REPAIRS. THEN WHEN IT IS OUT OF THE 36000 MILES WARRANTY, IT HAS PROBLEMS AGAIN AND THE DEALERSHIP THEN TELLS ME THEY WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE WIRING HARNESS AT ABOUT $1500 OUT OF MY POCKET AND A RENTAL FEE. I THROW A FIT AND THEREFORE THEY DECIDE TO LET ME HAVE THE WIRING HARNESS ON THEIR BEHALF BUT I WILL HAVE TO PAY LABOR AND MY OWN RENTAL. AFTER IT WAS ALL SAID AND DONE I WAS OUT $900 AND DON'T FEEL THAT I SHOULD OF HAD TO PAY THAT BECAUSE IF THEY HAD REPLACED IT AFTER IT HAD BEEN IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES WITHIN 8 MONTHS I WOULDN'T OF HAD TO BE REPLACING IT OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. DT: CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING ON I-66, AROUND MILE MARKER 58, THE TIRE BLEW OUT. THIS HAPPENED AT 6:45 AM. CONSUMER FELT THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK, AND HE FELT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WOULD FALL. THIS WAS THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. THE TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AGO. THE TIRE WAS PREVIOUSLY ON THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER HAD A PICTURE THAT HE WILL SEND IN. THE ENTIRE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT. THIS OCCURRED ON A 2004, CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL TIRE FOR THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER CONTACTED CHEVROLET THAT HE HAD BEEN DISSATISFIED WITH GENERAL TIRES IN THE PAST, AND TRIED TO HAVE THE DEALERSHIP CHANGE THEM AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. *AK

TRAILER BRAKE WIRING HARNESS. I RECENTLY PURCHASED A TRAILER WHICH REQUIRED A ELECTRONIC BRAKE. AFTER HAVING THE BRAKING SYSTEM INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER OF THE TRAILER I WAS INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING HARNESS ON THE VEHICLE. I THEN CALLED THE DEALER FOR MORE INFORMATION, THEY RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO ANOTHER TRAILER DEALER AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE WIRING HARNESS WAS ONLY RECEIVING 4 VOLTS, THE BRAKING SYSTEM REQUIRES 12 VOLTS. *JB
