MY FIANCE STOPPED AT MCDONALDS TO GET A SNACK BEFORE WORK. WENT INTO STORE CAME OUT STARTED TRUCK AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR. DROVE IT HOME AND I LOOKED UNDER AND SAW BRAKE FLUID COMING OUT BY FUEL TANK. NO WARNING AT ALL. RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES AT 75,000 MILES ON A WELL KEPT TRUCK. I HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET BUT, IT IS EASY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT HAPPENED. BRAKE FAILURE SHOULD NOT HAPPEN THAT SOON ON ANY VEHICLE. BRAKE SYSTEMS ARE SEALED AND THE FACT THEY NO LONGER USE STAINLESS STEEL LINES THEY WILL RUST OUT IN NO TIME AT ALL. I AM GLAD SHE WAS NOT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN IT WENT BAD. SHE DID DRIVE IT HOME THE 2 MILES FOR ME TO LOOK AT IT IN THE RAIN. SHE ALMOST CRASHED INTO A POLE. I AM PISSED OFF AND HAVE BEEN A LOYAL CHEVY OWNER FOR MANY YEARS. THIS IS DISGUSTING THAT SUCH CORNERS ARE BEING CUT. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE I HAVE READ MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE A SAFETY RECALL? *TR
RUSTED BRAKE LINE BROKE , CAUSING LOSS OF BRAKES. *TR
BRAKE LINE BROKE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUSTING OF LINE. INTERNET RESEARCH SHOWS MANY MANY OWNERS HAVING SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE WHILE HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AFTER A STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND CAUSED THE CONTACT LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE LEFT LANE AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE FACE, NECK AND RIGHT HAND. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 04/29/14*LJ
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND FAILED TO STOP. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONED AND PROVIDED AN ERRONEOUS READING OF 30 MPH WHEN THE CONTACT WAS ACTUALLY TRAVELING 60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,000. I REALIZE THAT THIS VEHICLE IS WELL OUT OF THE 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE MANUFACTURER WARRANTY. BUT LATELY WITH HOW RAPIDLY THIS TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES SEEMS TO BE FALLING APART ON ME ITS JUST REALLY BEEN FRUSTRATING. I'VE ONLY HAD THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE SHOP LESS THAN TWO WEEKS FOR FRONT WHEEL BEARING/ ABS SENSOR REPAIR WHEN MY SPEEDOMETER COMPLETELY WENT OUT. MOST OF THE TIME SPEEDOMETER IS READING 0 MPH OCCASIONALLY IT WILL FLUTTER BETWEEN 5-10 MPH. READING ONLINE I SEE GM EXTENDED THEIR SPEEDOMETER WARRANTY TO 7 YRS/70K MILES. JUST VERY FRUSTRATING GENERAL MOTORS. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THIS WHAT THIS REPAIR WILL COST. IN THE PAST YEAR ALONE THE REPAIRS THAT WERE MADE TO THIS TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 70,000 MILES HAVE BEEN... FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS,SWAY BAR(LINKS/BUSHINGS), INNER/ OUTER TIE RODS( BOTH SIDES), UPPER/ LOWER A ARMS (BOTH SIDES), NEW BRAKES/ROTORS( ALL THE WAY AROUND) , A FRONT END ALIGNMENT WITH MY NEW TIRES. THIS IS A 2 WHEEL DRIVE 1500 TRUCK NOT A 2500 4X4 THAT WAS USED TO PLOW SNOW WITH FOR YEARS. NO IDEA WHY THE WHOLE FRONT END OF MY TRUCK WAS SO ROTTED OUT TO THE POINT EVERYTHING NEEDED REPLACED. NOT FOR A TRUCK WITH SO FEW MILES ON IT. AND NOW THIS. *TR
AFTER PLACING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SHIFT INTO GEAR THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I GOT A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT. I OPENED THE MASTER CYLINDER CAP AND SAW NO BRAKE FLUID. I FILLED IT UP AND THE LEVEL KEPT DROPPING SO I LOOKED UNDER THE CAR AND SAW A PUDDLE OF FLUID. I TRACED THE FLUID TO THE METAL BRAKE LINES AND NOTICED THAT THEY WERE ALL MASSIVELY CORRODED TO THE POINT OF HAVING FLAKES OF METAL PEELING OFF THE LINES. ONE OF THE LINES HAD RUPTURED AND WAS SPRAYING FLUID ONTO THE ENGINE MAKING SMOKE AND CONTINUED TO DRIP EVEN WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE BRAKES FAILED. THERE WAS SLIGHT DECELERATION WHEN THE PEDAL WAS PRESSED, BUT IT WAS CLEAR THERE WERE NO BRAKES. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED TO SLOW THE TRUCK. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO MY DAUGHTERS HOUSE THAT WAS CLOSE BY AND HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. AFTER HIS INSPECTION, THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY ROTTED THROUGH. *TR

THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND AND FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND REPAIRED BY THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER NOT WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126000.
BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING ENDED UP GOING OFF SIDE OF ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. CAR WAS TOWED TO REPAIR FACILITY Y AND TRUCK EXPERIENCED TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID DUE TO BRAKE LINE RUPTURE CAUSED BY CORROSION ON THE BRAKE LINES. NO LIGHT AND OR WARNINGS OF ANY PROBLEM CAME ON AND THIS WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. *TR
I HAD JUST TURNED OFF OF A BUSY 4 LANE HIGHWAY, LUCKELY BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT, AS I CAME TO A STOP SIGN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR, NO BRAKES AT ALL.. BRAKE LINES RUSTED AND LEAKED, I SEE ON THE COMPUTER THIS SEAMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR AND MODEL , ONE AREA WHERE THE LINES ARE PLACED CATCHES SNOW AND SALT AND IT LAYS ON THEM CAUSING MOST OF THE PROBLEM. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 60,000 MILES IVE HAD TRUCKS WITH 150,000 MILES AND NO SUCH PROBLEMS.. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERDO CLASSIC. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BECOME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A INVESTIGATOR INSPECTED THE VEHICLE BUT NO INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY I WENT TO STOP , PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR,CAR ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT WITH ONCOMING SNOW PLOW TRUCK. EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE HAS LOW MILEAGE DEALER SAID WARRANTY WAS UP. FRONT BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. HAD THEM REPLACED. JUST RECENTLY I CHECKED UNDER VEHICLE & IT APPEARS THE SAME IS HAPPENING TO THE REAR BRAKE LINES & FUEL LINES. ROSSI CHEV. MY DEALER TOLD ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THIS VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
MONDAY MORNING I TOOK MY SON TO SCHOOL. MONDAY AFTERNOON I GOT IN THE TRUCK WENT TO PUSH THE BRAKE AND THE PEDAL PUSHED ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. AFTER THAT THE PARKING BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON ( I DIDN'T ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE). I CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID I DIDN'T HAVE ANY. AFTER INSPECTION MY HUSBAND FOUND A LEAK IN THE BRAKE LINE. IT WAS RUSTED AND WORN. I UNDERSTAND THE TRUCK HAS A LOT OF MILES. HOWEVER I DID NOT GET ANY WARNING LIGHT OR ABS LIGHT, NOTHING. I WAS VERY LUCKY I WAS DRIVING WITH MY SON. AFTER MY HUSBAND REPLACED THE LINE, HE CHECKED FOR LEAKS THE FOLLOWING DAY. THERE WERE NONE. WE STARTED BLEEDING THE BRAKES AND ANOTHER LINE STARTING LEAKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MALFUNCTIONED AND ALL OF THE GAUGES PROVIDED INACCURATE READINGS. IN ADDITION, THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ANTI- LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE CLEANED AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,800. UPDATED 3/28/14*CN *TR
1ST INCIDENT NOV. 2013 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH THE KIDS AND WAS COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND HER BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND HAD TO SWERVE INTO SHOPPING PLAZA ENTRANCE TO AVOID A ACCIDENT. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TO HAVE BRAKE LINE FIXED. 2ND INCIDENT WAS NOV. 2013 WHILE BLEEDING BRAKES AT THE SHOP ANOTHER BREAK LINE BROKE IN THE REAR SO I HAD TO HAVE THE SHOP FIX THAT ALSO. DEC. 2013 WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO SUPERMARKET, WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC SOMEONE CUT IN FRONT OF HER AND WHICH CAUSED HER TO HIT THE BRAKES & ANOTHER BRAKE LINE BLEW WHICH WAS ACCIDENT INVOLVED. *TR
MY TRUCK WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP WHILE IN DRIVE; AT IDLE; WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM MOVING FORWARD. WITHOUT WARNING, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK BEGAN MOVING FORWARD. REPEATED ATTEMPTS TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL DID NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON STOPPING THE TRUCK. AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD, I PUSHED DOWN ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL WHICH DID BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. UPON EXITING THE VEHICLE, I OBSERVED WHAT APPEARED TO BE BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING FROM UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SIDE WHERE 2 BRAKE LINES ARE LOCATED ALONG THE TRUCK'S FRAME. THE LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID IS COMING FROM THE BRAKE LINES WHICH ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. DOING A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON, PERVASIVE AND PERSISTENT ISSUE WITH GM PICKUP TRUCKS SINCE 1999, WITH SOME REPORTS INDICATING IT HAS CONTINUED TO AFFECT MODEL YEARS ANNUALLY THROUGH THE 2009 MODEL. THE REPAIR COST APPEARS TO BE RUNNING CLOSE TO $2000 TO REPLACE THE OEM LINES WITH STAINLESS STEEL. WHY GM AND NHTSA HAVE ALLOWED SUCH A DANGEROUS SITUATION TO CONTINUE FOR SO LONG, WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS, IS SIMPLY REMARKABLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER'S SEAT AIR BAG SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 06V417000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 167,000.
THE ABS KICKS IN AT LOW SPEEDS TO WHERE IT MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND HAVE A GRINDING FEEL AT THE DOOR PEDAL EVEN AFTER HAVING THE BRAKES AND ROTORS REPLACED. THE DASH CLUSTER GAUGES STOP WORKING ONE BY ONE,ONLY THE HEAT GAUGE WORK OFF AND ON. THE ENGINE BEGINS TO OVER HEAT WHEN SITTING IN IDLE 10 MINUTES, SOMETIMES 5 MINUTES DEPENDING ON HOW HOT IT IS,AND THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTS TO BLOW HOT AIR BUT IT BEGINS TO COOL OFF ONCE YOU START BACK DRIVING. I HAVE HAD THE WATER PUMP CHECKED,SOME HAD THE THERMOSTAT REPLACED AND IT STILL DOES IT ONLY IN THE SUMMER
MY WIFE HAD JUST LEFT OUR HOUSE AND AS SHE WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND SHE HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. THE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED AND BLEW A HOLE IN THE LINES. *TR
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF 1ST GEAR. TOOK TO SHOP HAD BEEN TOLD SPEED SOLENOID, REPLACED BOTH, FLUSHED TRANNY & CHANGED OIL. ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT TROUBLE FROM THE MINUTE WE TOOK THE PLASTIC OF THE SEATS. BRAKES, BEARINGS FUEL LINES, SPRINGS WATER PUMP ETC YOU NAME IT HAVE RECEIPTS FOR ALL OF IT. UNDER WARRANTY & AFTER. THIS TRUCK IS A LEMON. GMC WILL DO NOTHING, DEALER JUST PUTS HEAD DOWN & WALKS AWAY BECAUSE HE KNOWS MAJOR ISSUES IN THE FIRST 90 DAYS OF OWNING & CONTINUES TO THIS DAY. THIS PICKUP HAS NEVER LEFT THE BLACKTOP. NO OFFROADING, NOT HUNTING OR ANYTHING ELSE, NO VACATIONS IN FEAR OF BEING STRANDED. STEPPED ON BRAKE AND PEDDLE WENT TO THE FLOOR. WARNING CHIME AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. PULLED INTO CONVENIENCE STORE AND DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING OUT OF BRAKE LINE ADJACENT TO DRIVERS SIDE FRAME RAIL. LOCATION WAS AFT OF BEND RADIUS WHERE THE BRAKE LINES TURNS TO GO UP TO THE MASTER CYLINDER. DROVE VEHICLE AT VERY LOW SPEED ONE MILE TO HOME, PUMPING THE BRAKES TO GET SOME PEDDLE PRESSURE. INSPECTED BRAKE LINE AND FOUND IT TO BE VERY RUSTED. VEHICLE IS IN OTHERWISE EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. *TR
ON 11/27/13, I WAS TRAVELING IN VERY HEAVY HOLIDAY TRAFFIC IN AUSTIN, TX WHEN I CAME TO TRAFFIC LIGHT GOING 45 MILES PER HOUR AND MY BRAKES WENT OUT. I RAN THE LIGHT, PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND COASTED ONTO A SIDE STREET AND WAS ABLE TO STOP. I HAD NO ADVANCE WARNING! NONE OF THE SERVICE MESSAGES APPEARED BEFORE THE INCIDENT. I WAS VISITING FROM OUT OF TOWN AND BY MYSELF. CHECKED BRAKE FLUID AND AT THAT TIME THERE WAS SOME FLUID, BUT I QUICKLY SAW BRAKE FLUID FLOWING OUT IN FRONT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. THE BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AND BROKE. THIS CAR HAS SPENT MOST OF ITS LIFE AT THE TEXAS COAST, EXPOSED TO SAND AND SALT. I AM SO VERY THANKFUL I WAS NOT ON THE FREEWAY, WHICH I WAS ABOUT TO ACCESS...I AM NOT SURE WHAT THE RESULTS WOULD HAVE BEEN. FOR THE LAST 43 YEARS, I HAVE OWNED SUBURBANS (CURRENTLY OWN 3) AND NEVER HAD SUCH A PROBLEM. THIS 2004 IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS BEEN EXCLUSIVELY USED IN A SAND/SALT ENVIRONMENT. THIS IS A 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE WHICH SHOULD BE ESPECIALLY PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE WHEN IN CONTACT WITH CORROSIVE MATERIALS, LIKE SEA AIR OR SALTED ROAD AREAS. AS YOU KNOW, SUCH AREAS COVER MOST OF OUR COUNTRY AND THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN BUILT TO WITHSTAND THAT TYPE OF WEAR. NOTE: THIS CAR HAS BEEN VERY WELL MAINTAINED AND NOT UTILIZED IN ANY ADVERSE MANNER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE BRAKE LINES WOULD WERE REPLACED DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CORROSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS DRIVING HOME AND APPLIED MY BRAKES, BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT STOP THE TRUCK PROPERLY. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION WHEN I GOT THE TRUCK HOME REVEALED ALL BRAKE AND FUEL LINES HAVE SEVERE CORROSION AND BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED THROUGH AND EMPTIED BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. I GOT IN THE TRUCK TO LEAVE MY HOUSE. AFTER STARTING THE TRUCK AND PUTTING MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE TO LEAVE MY DRIVEWAY. AT THAT TIME THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. I WAS ABLE TO SHIFT BACK TO PARK AS I HAD NOT RELEASE THE PARKING BRAKE YET. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS EMPTY. AFTER LOOKING UNDER THE TRUCK, DRIVERS SIDE INSIDE FRAME RAIL, I DISCOVERED A BURST BRAKE LINE WHERE IT LEADS INTO THE ABS MODULE. ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE EXTREMELY CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL AT A CHEVY DEALER. I HAD THE DEALER PERFORM OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE ITEMS AT THAT TIME AS WELL. THEY DISCOVERED THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE A CHAIN GUIDE IN MY TRANSFER CASE, AND REPAIR A HOLE THAT THE LOOSE CHAIN HAD CAUSED. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT CHEVY USED STAINLESS STEEL FOR THE EXHAUST SYSTEM, WHICH LOOKS GREAT AFTER ALMOST 10 YEARS, YET THEY USED PLAIN STEEL FOR THE BRAKE LINES. I WAS LUCKY THIS OCCURRED IN MY DRIVEWAY, AND NOT WHILE I WAS TOWING MY BOAT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE TRANSFER CASE PROBLEM ALSO SEEMS LIKE AN ENGINEERING FAILURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE AT THE GM COMPANY. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE CLUSTER IS FAILING AND THE READING ARE NOT CORRECT ON THE DASHBOARD PANEL ARE NOR RIGHT. WHILE DRIVING I SAW A DEER, IT STARTED TOWARD THE ROAD I WAS TRAVELING AT 50MPH THE DEER STARTED TO RUN TO CROSS MY PATH. I APPLIED MY BRAKES (I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED IN PLENTY OF TIME BUT....) THE PEDAL WENT DOWN APPROXIMATELY HALFWAY AS NORMAL AND HELD FIRM, THEN THE PEDAL CONTINUED TO THE FLOOR, THE BRAKES NO LONGER SLOWED MY TRUCK IMPACTING THE DEER. THE INSTANT INCIDENT THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE LINE FAILED TWO INCHES FROM THE WHEEL FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINE JOINT. AN AUTOMOBILE THAT IS 9 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE BRAKE LINES FAILING, THIS VEHICLE HAS JUST RECENTLY ROLLED OVER 100,000 MILES MARK AND IS USED TO PULL THE FAMILY RVS IT IS NOT A DAILY DRIVER. WHY IS STEEL USED FOR BRAKE LINES? IT RUSTS! WHY IS IT NOT COATED? WHY NOT STAINLESS STEEL? WHY PUT PEOPLE'S LIVES AT RISK USING CHEAP MATERIALS THAT RUST IN A VITAL SAFETY COMPONENT SUCH AS BRAKES. *TR

I THEN CONTACTED MY MECHANIC WHO LIVES RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AND HE CAME UP AND LOOKED AT THE TRUCK. HE TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED AND ADDITIONALLY ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FUEL LINE THAT APPEARS TO BE BADLY CORRODED. I THEN CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAVE HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKE LINES ON THESE TRUCKS AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO TO HELP ME. I THEN LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF ISSUES WITH THESE TRUCKS AND THE NTSB WAS LOOKING INTO A RECALL . *TR
BOUGHT A SET OF FEDERAL COURAGIA MT'S ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AGO STILL ABOUT 95% TREAD WHEN TWO OF THE TIRES SPLIT GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, NOR WAS THERE ANY INDICATION THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. AS THE CONSUMER WAS SPEEDING TOWARD THE STOPPED CAR IN FRONT OF HIM, WITH NO BRAKES, HE SAW A DRIVEWAY LEADING TO A SMALL SHOPPING AREA. HE TURNED ABRUPTLY INTO THE DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABLE TO STOP, USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITHOUT DAMAGE TO HIS VEHICLE OR ANY OTHER VEHICLES OR PROPERTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND BRAKE FLUID WAS LOST.
