TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATING CIRCUITS UNDER THE DASHBOARD WERE HEATING UP EXCESSIVELY AND WOULD CRACKLE AND SPARKLE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSUME LIABILITY FOR THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT A FIRE COULD OCCUR. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE HEATER AND DEFROSTER WERE INOPERABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 22,588.
THERMOSTAT DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED AT 5-6,000 MILES. WATERPUMP WENT AT 40,000 MILES. PARTS WERE REPLACED BY DEALER. WATER PUMP REPLACED BY MY MECHANIC AT MY COST. 40,000 MILES SEEMS LIKE A LOW AMOUNT FOR A WATERPUMP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K1500. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT'S WIFE HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND AND NOTICED A DIFFERENCE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V018000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR). THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL; THEREFORE, THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE MADE FOR FREE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,943 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,000. UPDATED 1/6/09 *CN UPDATED 01/14/09.*JB
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT READ CORRECTLY, IE. WHEN IT SAYS I'M GOING THE SPEED LIMIT, I AM FLYING PAST OTHER CARS, IT READS ABOUT 20MPH LOWER THAN I AM REALLY CRUISING AT. CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY 38K MILES, GM IS AWARE AND WON'T REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE. AS I UNDERSTAND, IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2005'S AS WELL AS 04 AN 03 MODELS. GM WILL REPLACE 03 AND 04'S (SAME INSTRUMENT CLUSTER) WHY NOT THE 05'S?? *TR
MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO HAD A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT BUT THIS DIDN'T FIX IT. THIS WENT ON FOR MONTHS. JUST PRIOR TO THE WARRANTY RUNNING OUT I CONVINCED THE DEALERS MECHANIC THAT THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE RACK-N-PINION ASSEMBLY. THEY REPLACED IT UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. *TR
4/19/08 AT 4:30 A.M. EST. I WAS AWAKENED BY A LOUD EXPLOSION AND WENT OUTSIDE TO FIND MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. *TR
STEERING COLUMN MAKING RUMBLING SOUNDS. RECALL BY NHSTA POSTED ON INTERNET, HOWEVER, MANUFACTURE STATES THERE ARE NO RECALLS OF SUCH. TRUCK IS JUST OUT OF 3 YEAR WARRANTY. MANUFACTURER NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM WITH ALL 2005 MODELS IN THIS CLASS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE ACCORDING TO THE NHTSA DUE TO A POSSIBLE LOSS OF STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM PERMANENTLY, AND NOT JUST TEMPORARILY LIKE I HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERS CHARGE FOR A FIX AND THE PROBLEM JUST COMES BACK AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE A RECALL BY CHEVROLET AND GM AND THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO FIX IT PERMANENTLY. IF MY STEERING GOES AWAY, AND A CRASH FOLLOWS, THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT FIXING THE PROBLEM, THEY WILL HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT BEING SUED. *TR
SPEEDOMETER HAD STARTED TO STICK BUT NOW IT DOESN'T WORK AT ALL..NO MATTER HOW FAST I MAY BE GOING SPEEDOMETER READS "0". ITS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR A COUPLE MONTHS BUT I HAVEN'T HAD THE MONEY TO FIX IT. I'VE BEEN USING MY GPS SYSTEM TO GAUGE MPH. HAS THIS BEEN ADDRESSED YET?? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED SOMETHING BURNING FROM UNDER THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN APART AND THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THERE WAS BURNED AND MELTED WIRES. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE WIRING HARNESS AND THE BLOWER MOTOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW MONTHS LATER. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED HIM OF WHICH COMPONENTS THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION A MANUFACTURER'S SILENT RECALL AND THE CONTACT WAS OFFERED A PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO THE SPEEDOMETER WORKS INTERMITENTLY. *TR
TO WHOM IT CONCERN: I HAVE A CONCERN REGARDIN MY 2005 SILVERADO.THERE IS A SPOT OF GREASE OR OIL ON THE INSIDE OF THE HUB WEEL ASSEAMBLY (BOTH FRONT SIDE) I HAVE TAKEN IN TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALER'S AND THEY BOTH TOLD ME THE SAME THING THAT IS NORMAL.I TOOK A FEW PICTURES AND SHOWED THEM TO BOTH THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY SAID IT IS NORMAL.BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS.I WHIS THAT YOU CAN HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER BECOUSE THE WARRANTY PERIOD ON MY TRUCK IS SOON TO EXPIRE AND I WOULD WANT TO FIX IT BEFORE IT EXPIRES . THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HYDRO BOOST COULD HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON TWO PREVIOUS OCCASIONS AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE WARRANTY. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF CALLING THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V018000 (STEERING:GEAR BOX:SHAFT SECTOR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,400.
I OWN A 2005 CHEVY 2500 SILVERADO EXT. CAB 4X4 SINCE NEW. LAST YEAR IN LATE MARCH THE WIRING PLUG AND RESISTOR FOR THE HEATER/AC BLOWER MOTOR SHORTED OUT, CAUGHT FIRE AND MELTED RIGHT AT THE RESISTOR. THIS IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE PICKUP, UNDER THE DASH, VISIBLE FROM BELOW. THE SAME THING, ONLY NOT AS SEVERE THIS TIME, (I CAUGHT IT EARLY) JUST HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I TOOK THE PICKUP TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT AND FIX IT. THEY REPLACED THE RESISTOR AND SEMI-MELTED PLUG, THE SAME FIX I DID MYSELF THE FIRST TIME. THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION FOR WHY THIS HAPPENED. WITH MINIMAL SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND NUMEROUS OCCASIONS OF THE SAME THING HAPPENING TO OTHER CHEVY PICKUP OWNERS. WHEN THESE RESISTORS FAIL, THERE IS GREAT POTENTIAL FOR FIRE, PERSONAL INJURY. I BURNED MY FINGERS PRETTY BAD THE FIRST TIME.*TR
MY WIFE (ANN GARLATTA - WITH OUR THREE CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE AS WELL) WAS DRIVING HOME AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON, SHE HEARD NOISE IN WHEEL WHILE DRIVING - LIKE A SQUEAKING & GRINDING, THEN THE STEERING STARTED TO PULL, AND SHE STARTED HEARING THE SOUND OF PIECES POPPING OFF, SO MY WIFE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE 91 FWY, UPON SLOWING DOWN TO THE SHOULDER THE CAR ABRUPTLY STOPPED AS THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL FELL OFF. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM ORANGE COUNTY ON MARCH 15, 2008 WITH MY THREE CHILDREN AT AROUND 8PM. I WAS TRAVELING EAST ON THE 91 FWY WHEN WE BEGAN HEARING A SQUEAKING SOUND IN MY TIRES AND MY ABS LIGHT HAD COME ON, SHORTLY AFTER OUR JOURNEY HOME THE SQUEAKING SOUND WAS FOLLOWED BY A GRINDING SOUND AS WELL. I BEGAN GETTING OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND STARTED HEARING THE SOUND OF LITTLE THINGS DROPPING TO THE GROUND, FOLLOWED BY MORE THINGS HITTING THE GROUND AND MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT, SO I PULLED OVER JUST UNDER THE LINCOLN EXIT IN CORONA. AS I WAS COMING TO A STOP THE TRUCK SUDDENLY CAME TO A HARD STOP, BECAUSE MY ENTIRE WHEEL CAME OFF! *TR
I HAVE A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH 46K MILES ON IT AND THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED. IT INTERMITTENTLY STARTS AT A RANDOM SPEED AND SOMETIMES STICKS AT MAX SPEED. I TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $500 TO REPAIR. I BELIEVE THERE IS A HISTORY OF STEPPER MOTOR FAILURES ON THIS ITEM FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS BUT THEY HAVEN'T RECALLED ANY OF THE 2005 OR LATER MODELS. *TR
FIRST TIME WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE ON A LONG TRIP. AFTER 500 MILES ON THE ROAD, SPEEDOMETER TOPPED OUT AT 120 MPH (EVEN THOUGH WE HAD CRUISE SET AT 65). EVEN WHEN WE WERE AT A COMPLETE STOP, SPEEDOMETER READ 65 MPH. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS IT WORKED FINE, WEEK LATER WHEN WE WERE RETURNING FROM THE TRIP SAME THING OCCURRED. WE TOOK IT TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUSTER AND THEY ORDERED THE PART. WE WILL TAKE IT IN TOMORROW TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED. OUR VEHICLE ONLY HAS 37,000 MILES, WE DO HAVE PLATINUM WARRANTY ON IT, BUT STILL WILL HAVE TO PAY $200.00 FEE. SERVICE TECH SAYS CHEVY HAS ALREADY HAD RECALL ON 2002 AND 2003, JUST WANTED TO REPORT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. *TR
RUST CORROSION HAS WORN THROUGH TO AFFECT ELECTRICAL LINES - REAR LIGHTS NO LONGER WORK. HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE DASHBOARD CONSOLE ELECTRICAL. GAS FUEL LIGHT STAYS ON WHICH IS RELATED TO THE CIRCUITRY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND AFFECTS "SMOG" SYSTEM. MAIN PROBLEM IS, RIGHT NOW, THE SAFETY AND DRIVEABILITY OF THIS TRUCK DUE TO RUSTING THROUGH UNDERBODY TO THE DRIVE SHAFT AND AXEL/BRAKE SYSTEM (NEVERMIND THE REAR LIGHTS NOT WORKING) WILL THIS TRUCK FAIL ON THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING? *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED 70,000 MILES THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE SPEEDOMETER FOR FREE. THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY $750 FOR A NEW INSTRUMENT PANEL, PLUS INSTALLATION. SPEEDOMETER WENT CRAZY AND CLUNKING IN STEERING. *TR
AT ABOUT 60,000 MILES MY 2005 GM CHEVY S1500 SILVERADO TRUCK'S SPEEDOMETER BEGAN TO ACT ERRATICALLY IN POSTING THE SPEED OF THE TRUCK. AT ABOUT 70,000 MILES THIS PROBLEM BECAME PERMENANT AND THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $450. THE PROBLEM WAS WHETHER THE CAR WAS STOPPED, EVEN WITH THE ENGINE OFF, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD REGISTER DIFFERENT SPEEDS AT ANYWHERE FROM 20 TO 90 MPH. ON THE HIGHWAY IT WOULD EVEN GO PAST THE MAX SPEED OF 120 MPH. THE OBVIOUS DANGER HERE IS THAT THE DRIVER HAS NO IDEA EXACTLY HOW FAST THE TRUCK IS TRAVELING. WHILE GETTING COST ESTIMATES TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC PHONED TO GET THE PART OR PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE PERSON SUPPLYING THE PART KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PART COST AND OTHER DETAILS RELATED TO REPAIRING IT. OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE GM CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCKS AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER AS THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
PURCHASED A 2005 SILVERADO. NOTICED FROM THE BEGINNING THAT IT DROVE ODD AT TIMES. . SPOKE WITH A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD US THAT WHEN IT BROKE IN IT WOULD DRIVE SMOOTHER. IT WAS JUST SHIFTING HARD. IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS IN 4WD AT TIMES. THIS WENT ON FOR SOME TIME. WE LIVE OUT A WAYS AND PUT ALOT OF MILES ON A VEHICLE. PROBLEM CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. TOOK IT IN TO THE GARAGE AT 17K MECHANIC SAID HE COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. KEPT IGNORING THE PROBLEM. TWICE CHARGING US FOR THINGS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY LIKE ALIGNMENT AND ROTATION. WE TOOK THE TRUCK IN 5 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. CLOSE TO THE END OF WARRANTY THE MECHANIC TOLD US IF WE HAD ANY MORE PROBLEMS THEY WOULD NOTE THEM SO THE WARRANTY WOULD COVER THEM. NOT THE CASE. DURING THIS TIME I WAS TAKING MY DAUGHTERS FRIEND HOME AND WAS IN A REALLY TOUGH SPOT AGAINST THE SIDE OF A VERY BIG HILL AND REALIZED I HAD NO 4WD. WE CAME SLIDING DOWN. FORTUNATELY NO INJURY. ON AND OFF AGAIN 4WD UNTIL ABOUT 1MO LATER NO 4WD AT ALL. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE GARAGE WHEN THE SERVICE 4WD LIGHT WAS ON AND THE MECHANIC TURNED IT OFF AND TOLD US IT WAS UNRELATED TO THE PROBLEM WE WERE HAVING. THIS WAS JUST WEEKS BEFORE THE 4WD WENT ALTOGETHER. DURING THIS TIME WE CONTACTED THE GARAGE AND GM. NO HELP FOR THE PROBLEM. ONE LEFT IT UP TO THE OTHER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN THE MEANTIME WE ARE CATCHING RIDES BECAUSE A TRUCK WITHOUT 4WD IS USELESS TO US HERE IN THE WINTERTIME. WE DISCOVERED FROM ASKING OTHERS THAT THIS MAY BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN THESE TRUCKS. SEEMS LIKE THE SAME. 4WD ENGAGES ITSELF FOR AWHILE AND THEN STOPS WORKING ALTOGETHER. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN LOSING 4WD UNEXPECTEDLY,WHERE WE LIVE, PUT YOU IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. *TR

TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WITH THE NOTE ON THE REPAIR ORDER"LACK OF LUBE IN SPLINES". COST $204.01. THIS IS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICK-UP TRUCK WITH 57,000 MILES; IS THAT THE BEST THEY CAN BUILD THEM? *TR

THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED STARTED REGISTERING ABOUT 20 MILES AN HOUR BELOW WHAT I ESTIMATED I WAS DRIVING AT THE TIME. THE SPEEDOMETER THEN STARTED WORKING PROPERLY 2 DAYS LATER AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT JUST STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT I CAN'T TELL HOW FAST I AM DRIVING AND COULD LEAD TO SPEEDING TICKETS OR ACCIDENTS. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD STICK ANYWHERE ABOVE 60 WHETHER I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP OR NOT. THIS WENT ON OVER A YEAR BECAUSE CHEVROLET SAID NOT ENOUGH COMPLAINTS WERE ISSUED. I ALMOST GOT A TICKET JUST GOING WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC SO I PAID ALMOST $500.00 TO HAVE IT FIXED. NOT SAFE AT ALL IN SCHOOL ZONES. *TR
COMPLETE FAILURE OF ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. NEW CHEVROLET SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK WITH ONLY 39,000 MILES WITH NO DAMAGE. HAVE HEARD THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF CHEVY CARS AND TRUCKS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE COST TO FIX THE ABS SYSTEM IS $800.00 THIS IS A SYSTEM THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL. IT IS A SELLING POINT ON THE VEHICLES AND SHOULD BE WARRANTED FOR LIFE OF VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DISPLAYED 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER; HOWEVER, A MECHANIC ADVISED HIM TO REPLACE THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58,800. UPDATED 02-25-08 *BF
RIMS HAVE A ENGINEERING DEFECT- THEY COLLECT MUD AROUND A ONE INCH GAP AROUND OUTSIDE RIM- THIS KEEPS FRONT END OUT OF LINE AND CANNOT BE KEPT IN LINE- BOTH WHEEL BEARINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND I AM ON 3RD SET OF TIRES- I HAVE COMPLAINED SINCE BOUGHT TRUCK. *TR
THE ENGINE OIL COOLER LINES AND THE TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES LEAK AT THE CRIMP WHERE THE RUBBER HOSE AND METAL LINES CONNECT. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ONLINE ABOUT THIS I HAVE DISCOVERED IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. SOME PEOPLE HAVE REPLACED THESE LINES MULTIPLE TIMES ONLY TO HAVE THEM LEAK A SHORT WHILE LATER. FOR THOSE OF US WHOSE VEHICLES ARE OUT OF WARRANTY THIS CAN BE VERY COSTLY. I WOULD ALSO THINK THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID AND MOTOR OIL CONTACTING HOT SURFACES LIKE AN EXHAUST POSE A FIRE HAZARD. AT THE VERY LEAST THE LEAKING OIL IS AN ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARD. I HAVE PURCHASED OIL COOLER LINES AND AM REPLACING THEM TOMORROW BUT I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING TRANSMISSION LINES. *TR

DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THE 03 AND 04 MODELS HAVE A RECALL ON THE STEPPER MOTOR BUT THE 05 MODEL DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL. THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY 90% OF THE TIME. DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY HOW FAST THE VEHICLE IS GOING. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 72,000 MILES NOW AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. DEALER SAID THAT A REPLACEMENT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $500 TO FIX. WHO CAN AFFORD THIS AFTER PAYING FOR A $35,000 VEHICLE. ESPECIALLY AFTER HAVING THE STEERING SHAFT REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES, NEW INTAKE GASKETS, CATALYTIC CONVERTERS, BLOWER MOTOR WIRES SMOKED AND MELTED. JUST A JUNKY TRUCK FOR THE HIGH PRICE. *TR
WAS DRIVING NORMALLY WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. INSTEAD OF THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPING DOWN TO ZERO IT STAYED A 60 MPH. THE SPEEDOMETER BOUNCED UP AND DOWN FOR AWHILE AND NOW IT JUST STAYS STUCK ON 150 MPH. EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE IT WILL DROP DOWN TO 90 MPH, BUT THEN GETS STUCK BACK ON 150 MPH WHEN I START DRIVING AGAIN. *TR
WAS GOING 55 MPH AND CAME TO A STOP LIGHT. THE SPEEDOMETER STAYED AT 55 MPH. WHEN I SPED BACK UP THE SPEEDOMETER WENT UP TO 150 MPH AND STAYED THERE. SOMETIMES IT DROPS BACK DOWN TO 90 MPH AND THE GOES BACK UP TO 150 MPH WHEN I SPEED BACK UP. IT NORMALLY STAYS STUCK AT 150 MPH NO MATTER WHAT SPEED I'M AT. *TR
SPEEDOMETER WAS WORKING FINE THEN STARTED TO SPEED UP WHEN I WASN'T. IT HAPPEN EVERYDAY. I TRY TO GET MY CRUISE SET BEFORE IT STARTS SO NOT TO GET A TICKET FOR SPEEDING. DEALER TOLD ME TO CALL GM, WHO IN SO MANY WORDS SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR, I DON'T THINK THAT A PART LIKE THIS IS NOT LIKE A BATTERY OR TIRES THAT WEAR OUT OVER A GIVING AMOUNT OF TIME. GM SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. I HAVE ABOUT 46,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. JUST GOT THE PRICES LAST WEEK,$400 TO $500 TO FIX. LETS SAY IT'S NOT FIXED YET. *TR

TRANSPORTED TO DEALERSHIP WAS DETERMINED MOUSE NEST UNDER UBEC, WIRES CHEWED AND FULL OF MOUSE URINE WHICH CAUSED A SHORT. BOX THAT CONTAINS THIS PART IS VERY ACCESSIBLE TO RODENTS. HAD NEW TIRES MOUNTED ON TRUCK, TECHNICIAN CALLS ME OVER AND SHOWS ME 1/2" PLAY IN L&R FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS. THERE WAS NO ODD TIRE WEAR, PLAY IN STEERING WHEEL OR ABNORMAL OPERATION ON THE HIGHWAY AT LOW OR HIGH SPEED. *TR

(1) IT WAS 22 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND I WENT TO TURN ON MY HEATER WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM THE HOUSE. THERE WAS HEAT COMING OUT BUT IT WAS NOT BLOWING AND THE HEATERS CONTROL ADJUSTMENT KNOBS WERE NOT CLICKING INTO PLACE. NO AIR WAS BLOWING FROM THE FRONT PANELS OR TO ANY PANELS. I COULDN'T EVEN GET THE DEFROSTER TO OPERATE. I CHECKED ALL THE FUSES AS PER THE VEHICLE OPERATORS MANUAL AND ALL FUSES WERE FINE. ON FRIDAY, 04JAN08 I CALLED TURAN FOLEY CHEVROLET-CADILLAC-BUICK DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD BOUGHT THE TRUCK BACK IN JANUARY OF 2005. I SPOKE TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SUPERVISOR AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. HE ADVISED ME THAT IT WAS MY HEATERS RESISTOR BOX AND THAT IT HAD MELTED. HE ALSO ADVISED THAT HE HAD SEEN AT LEAST 7 TRUCKS THAT WEEK ALONE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT EVERY 2-3 OUT OF EVERY 10 TRUCKS HAS BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM BUT THAT NO RECALL HAS BEEN PLACED FOR THIS PART YET. (2) THE RESISTOR BOX AND THE PIGTAIL CONNECTOR HAD BOTH MELTED. I LEFT MY HOUSE IN TEXAS AND RETURNED TO MISSISSIPPI ON ALMOST A 700 MILE TRIP W/O ANY HEAT IN LOW 20 TEMPERATURES. (3) THE DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE MALFUNCTIONED PARTS WITH: CONNECTOR PART NUMBER15862656 FOR $95.00 AND THE RESISTOR PART NUMBER 89019088 FOR $50.62 AND THEN CHARGED ME $120.00 FOR LABOR ON 1-1/2 HOURS LABOR COSTING ME $289.56. MY WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT BECAUSE IT EXPIRED 2,656 MILES AFTER MY WARRANTY OF 36,000 MILES AT 39,456. I CONTACTED THE CHEVROLET RECALL CENTER AND INQUIRED AS TO IF A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED AND THEY ADVISED NOT AT THIS TIME. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHEN THE CONTACT LIGHTLY RELEASES THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS AUTOMATICALLY DIM. THE FAILURE WAS NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURS EVEN THOUGH HIS FOOT IS STILL ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. HE STATED THAT A VEHICLE DRIVING BEHIND HIM WILL NOT REALIZE THAT HE IS ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE; THEREFORE, IT COULD CAUSE A REAR END CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE FAILURE, BUT COULD NOT REPAIR IT BECAUSE IT IS AN UNADJUSTABLE SHIFT. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT IF THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING, IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF AN CRASH WITH THE VEHICLES IN THE REAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED. THE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED AND THERE HAD BEEN NO FURTHER OCCURRENCES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,200 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,300.
SPEEDOMETER FAILURE. AT AROUND 55K, MY SPEEDOMETER FAILED. BEFORE IT COMPLETELY FAILED, THE NEEDLE LOOKED LIKE IT WAS STRUGGLING TO KEEP UP WITH SPEED, THEN IT COMPLETELY FAILED. WHEN I NOTICED THE FAILURE, I LOOKED DOWN AND IT SAID I WAS GOING 120MPH, WHICH I WAS NOT. I'VE CALLED THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THEY SAID THE 03'S AND 04'S WERE RECALLED, BUT THE 05'S WEREN'T. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE 05 SUBURBAN WAS UNDER RECALL? AND THAT MINE SHOULD BE TOO BECAUSE OF THE SAME CLUSTER PANEL. I'VE HEARD NOTHING YET ON A RECALL, AND I DON'T WANT TO BE TICKETED BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW HOW FAST I AM GOING. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER ONE MORNING JUST WENT TO 110 MPH WHEN I WAS DRIVING 55 AND THEN STAYED. IT WOULD WORK ONE MINUTE AND THEN NOT THE NEXT. FINALLY AFTER TWO DAYS IT STAYED AT 160. THERE WAS NO WAY TO DRIVE IT AND TELL WHAT SPEED I WAS GOING. I HAVE RECEIVED A SPEEDING TICKET RECENTLY AND WONDER IF THE SPEEDOMETER WAS MALFUNCTIONING THEN. THE FAILURE SPEEDOMETER WAS 63,000 JUST 2,000 OUT OF WARRANTY. I WENT TO THE DEALER WHO SHOWED ME THE SPECIAL BULLETIN ON THE 03 AND 04 BUT SINCE MINE WAS AN 05 I HAD TO PAY $501.30 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I PLACED AN INCIDENT W/ GM WHO HAD THE GUTS TO TELL ME THAT THERE WAS NOT AN INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE ON THE 05 (KINDA FUNNY SINCE I HAVE A 05 THAT FAILED) AND THAT SINCE MY VEHICLE WAS NOT AN 03 OR 04 THAT IT COULDN'T BE HAPPENING. EVEN THOUGH THE DEALERSHIP THAT FIXED IT KNEW RIGHT AWAY THE PROBLEM AND ADMITTED I WASN'T THE FIRST 05 HE HAD SEEN. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WAS REPLACED. *TR
