STEERING COLUMN KNOCKING NOISE. *NM
I HAVE A '05 CHEVROLET SILVERADO, I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT WHEN THE KEY IN THE IGNITION IS TURNED TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION (ONE TURN WITH THE VEHICLE OFF), THE VEHICLE WILL BE ABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF THE PARKED POSITION WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER THEY SAY THAT IS HOW IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. NOT ONLY MY TRUCK DID IT, MY FRIENDS '03 FORD F-350 ALSO DOES IT TOO! I AM NOT SURE IF ALL VEHICLES ARE DESIGNED LIKE THAT OR NOT. WHEN THE VEHICLES KEY IS IN THE RUN POSITION WITH THE VEHICLE OFF, YOU HAVE TO PUSH DOWN THE BRAKE PEDAL BEFORE YOU CAN SHIFT OUT OF PARK. THE WHOLE IDEA I THOUGHT WAS TO PREVENT A YOUNG CHILD FROM SHIFTING A VEHICLE OUT OF PARK AND ROLL INTO TRAFFIC! THE WAY MY TRUCK, AND POSSIBILITY A WHOLE LOT MORE WAS DESIGNED, A CHILD WOULD HAVE A 50-50 CHANCE OF TURNING THE KEY JUST ONE TIME, AND THAT COULD LEAD TO A CATASTROPHE. *JB
2005 4-DOOR CHEVY SILVERADO 4X4 DEFROSTER/HEATER/BLOWER AND DIRECTIONAL INDICATOR AND TEMP GAUGE IN MIRROR FAIL AT ALTITUDE (ABOUT 3,000 FEET) ONLY IN WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS WHERE TEMP. IS AROUND 32 DEGREES. DEALER IS AT A COMPLETE LOSS AS TO THE ISSUE WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO "HEATED" AIR PASSING OVER THE WINDSHIELD TO CLEAR AND DEFROST. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY DOWNSHIFTED TO SECOND GEAR. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AND THE DEALER REPEATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. ANOTHER DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BURNED. IN APRIL OF 2007, THEY REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT 26,102 MILES. AFTER THE REPLACEMENT, THE FAILURE RECURRED ACCOMPANIED BY A SEVERE GRINDING AND SLAMMING NOISE. THE VEHICLE THEN SHIFTED INTO THIRD GEAR. SINCE THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TEN TIMES. AS A RESULT OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE, THE CONTACT ACCIDENTALLY STRUCK A DEER. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. GENERAL MOTORS DEVELOPED A CASE FILE ON NOVEMBER 13, 2007. THEY CALLED THE CONTACT THE FOLLOWING DAY AND STATED THAT THE INITIAL REPRESENTATIVE WORKING ON THE CASE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAS YET TO HEAR BACK FROM GENERAL MOTORS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,700.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CENTER COVER OF THE STEERING WHEEL, WHERE THE AIR BAG WAS LOCATED HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG COULD BE AFFECTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SHUT OFF WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING WHILE ACCELERATING 10 MPH UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS OCCURRED ON FIVE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES, WHO WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE.
IN THE 2ND YEAR I OWNED MY TRUCK IT NOTICED THAT WHEN THE OUTSIDE TEMP GOT BELOW 50 DEGREES F THAT MY SPEEDOMETER WOULD STOP WORKING. WHEN IT WARMED UP 10-15 DEGREES IT WOULD START WORKING AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT A YEAR OF THIS IT JUST BECAME COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE ALL THE TIME REGARDLESS OF TEMP. NOW IT JUST SITS BETWEEN 50-120 MPH WHETHER YOU ARE MOVING ARE NOT MOVING. THIS LAST YEAR THE GAS GAUGE ALSO BECAME COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE. I'VE HEARD CHEVY SENT OUT LETTERS SAYING THAT IF YOUR VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 7 YRS OR LESS THAN 70,000 THEY WOULD FIX IT FREE, MINE HAS OVER A HUNDRED BUT I NEVER GOT A LETTER AND STILL LIVE AT SAME ADDRESS. I'VE HEARD THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT BUT HAVEN'T SEEN IT. I WOULD TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE CHEVY DEALERSHIP BUT THIS WOULD COST ME A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF $110 AND THEY STILL WOULD FIX IT FREE, THEY WOULD CHARGE ME $600. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. A DRIVER MUST KNOW THE SPEED OF THEIR VEHICLE AND THEY MUST KNOW HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE VEHICLE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A POWER STEERING PUMP WHICH WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE, MADE A WINDING SOUND LIKE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS LOW ON FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REFUSED TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE BRAKES SYSTEM RELIES ON THE POWER STEERING PUMP. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL # 05V455000 FOR THE HOSE THAT GOES BETWEEN THE POWER STEERING AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN, HOWEVER THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE THE COMPONENTS BECAUSE THERE WERE NO VISUAL PROBLEMS PRESENT.
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK - BURST INTO FLAMES AT APPROX. 4:30 AM WHILE PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY - DAMAGE TO HOUSE AS WELL AS IT WAS PARKED CLOSE. FRONT END OF THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED BY FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY FIREFIGHTER CREWS, FRONT END OF TRUCK FROM THE BUMPER TO THE FRONT WINDOW WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. NO VANDALISM OR ARSON - TRUCK WAS DISCOVERED BY NEIGHBORS WHILE BURNING. NO ONE INFORMED ME OFF A RECALL ON THIS TRUCK. *NM
WHEN THE TEMP OUTSIDE IS ABOUT 40 DEGREES OR COOLER, SOMETHING UNDER THE VEHICLE RATTLES(DRIVER FRONT). THIS RATTLING IS METAL ON METAL, AND SOUNDS LIKE RAPIDLY BANGING 2 STEEL CANS TOGETHER. THE NOISE DISSIPATES AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES, BUT IS QUITE NOTICEABLE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD DURING THE FIRST 10 MINS OF USAGE. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER MODULE SENSOR IS FAILING. AS A RESULT, HE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW FAST HE IS DRIVING AT TIMES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE DEFECT AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE IS 105,100. UPDATED 01-29-08. *KB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH DOWN HILL ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS AND ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS CARRYING A LOAD SUCH AS A TRAVEL TRAILER IN ONE CASE AND A HORSE TRAILER ON ANOTHER, THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND ON EACH VISIT THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE'S FRONT END. THE TIRE WORE DOWN TO THE WEAR BAR, FROM THE CENTER OF THE TIRE TO THE OUTSIDE EDGE. THERE WAS A BAD VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END, MOST NOTICEABLE AT 45 MPH, BUT WAS FELT AT ALL SPEEDS, AND WHENEVER THE VEHICLE ENCOUNTERED IRREGULARITIES IN THE ROAD. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NOT THE MANUFACTURER.
DRIVING 50 MPH ON ROAD, I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IT WAS SPITTING AND SPUTTERING AND SLOWED DOWN FOR A WHILE . I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND SHUT IT OFF. AFTER TEN MINUTES, THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, AND LIGHT WENT OUT AND IT RAN PERFECTLY. *JB
2005 CHEVY SILVERADO Z71. CANISTER EVAPORATION VENT SOLENOID DEFECTIVE, RESULTING IN REPEATED CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. I REPLACED THIS $175 AND THE GARAGE OWNER SITED NUMEROUS OTHER VEHICLES OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. *NM
I HAVE TWO CHEVROLET PRODUCTS, A 2002 TAHOE AND A 2005 1500 SERIES WORK TRUCK, BOTH WHICH HAVE A CLUNK IN THE STEERING WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLES. MY WIFE REFUSES TO HAVE THE DEALER WORK ON HER TAHOE SO SHE PUTS UP WITH THE NOISE. I HAD THE DEALER REPAIR THE WORK TRUCK AND THE DEFECTIVE PART WAS IDENTIFIED AS "AN INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT". AFTER CHECKING THIS OUT ON THE INTERNET, IT SEEMS THAT GM HAS THIS PROBLEM WITH ALL OF THE TRUCKS/SUVS FROM THE MODEL RUN 1999 TO THE FINISH OF THE MODEL RUN 2006. WE ARE TALKING ABOUT A SHAFT THAT CONNECTS THE IN- CAB STEERING ASSEMBLY TO THE STEERING BOX IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IT STARTS OFF WITH AN OCCASIONAL ANNOYING CLUNK AND PROGRESSING TO A FULL TIME NOISE THAT CAN BE HEARD AND FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS IN THE COLLAPSIBLE PART OF THE SHAFT AS GM'S RESPONSE HAS BEEN TO LUBRICATE THE SPLINES IN THE SHAFT AND / OR REPLACE IT. WHETHER THE ORIGINAL SHAFT IS REPAIRED (LUBRICATED) OR A NEW ONE IS INSTALLED, WITHIN 2K TO 15K MILES THE DEFECT IS BACK. FOR GM TO CONTINUE MANUFACTURING TRUCKS AND CARS (YES, THEIR CARS HAVE THE PROBLEM TOO) IS SIMPLY TEMPTING FATE. HOW LONG BEFORE THE SPLINES ON ONE OF THESE SHAFTS FAILS AND MAKES THE STEERING WHEEL NO LONGER CONNECTED TO THE STEERING GEAR BELOW? WHEN THAT HAPPENS THERE WILL BE A CRASH. SO FAR GM IS QUIETLY REPLACING THESE PARTS, SATISFIED WITH JUST GETTING THE CUSTOMER OUT OF WARRANTY. I REALIZE THIS WILL PROBABLY GO NOWHERE, I JUST FEEL THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPORTED AS A POSSIBLE THREAT TO THE VEHICLE OPERATION. *JB
WHEN THREE PEOPLE ARE IN BACK SEAT OF TRUCK, PERSON NEAREST LEFT REAR DOOR CANNOT CONNECT SEAT BELT INTO THE SEAT BELT HOLDER. HOLDER WILL NOT STAY UP---A PERSON'S LEFT HAND HAS TO HOLD SEAT BELT OVER THE BODY, WHILE THE RIGHT HAND TRIES TO INSERT THE CLASP. A THIRD HAND IS NEEDED TO KEEP THE SEAT BELT HOLDER RAISED IN ORDER TO DO THIS.----ONLY SOLUTION IS TO ABANDON THE SEAT BELT HOLDER. *JB
I PARKED MY PICKUP TRUCK 2005 CHEV. 2500 HD ON A HILL SIDE IN ORDER TO COLLECT ROCKS TO USE IN CREATING FLOWER BEDS AT HOME. MY WIFE AN I HAD PARKED THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. THE TRUCK WAS PLACED IN PARK WITH THE IGNITION OFF. WE WERE STANDING ABOUT 15 FT FROM THE TRUCK WHEN WE HEARD A LOUD POPPING METALLIC SOUND. THE TRUCK IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ROLLED BACK AND TRAVELED ABOUT 20 FEET OR SO BEFORE RUNNING UP AND ONTO A WOOD LOG. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND THEY MADE A COMPUTER CHECK OF THE VEHICLE AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG. I REQUESTED THAT CHEVROLET CHECK THE TRANSMISSION AND STEERING COLUMN. THEY DECLINED. MY WIFE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED BY THE FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE TO STAY IN THE PARKING GEAR POSITION (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). WHAT CAN WE DO TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION? *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE IN THE CARPORT FOR TWO HOURS, IT CAUGHT ON FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. THERE WAS PROPERTY DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. A REPORT WAS TAKEN WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 5 OCCASIONS FOR BRAKE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND PULSATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK. THE FIRST TIME, THE ROTORS WERE CUT AND THE PADS WERE SHAVED. THE SECOND TIME, THE ROTORS WERE CUT AND THE PADS WERE REPLACED. THE THIRD TIME, THE ROTORS WERE CUT AND THE PADS WERE SHAVED. THE FOURTH TIME ON 8-15-06, THE ROTORS WERE CUT AND THE PADS WERE EITHER SHAVED OR REPLACED. ON 8-19-06, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AGAIN AND THE BRAKE PEDAL PULSATED WHEN DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK ON 8-25-06. THE DEALERSHIP TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE, BUT DID NOT INSPECT THE BRAKES AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. UPON INSPECTING THE ROTORS, THE CONTACT NOTICED GROOVES IN THE ROTORS WITHIN 500 MILES OF THE LAST TIME THE ROTORS WERE CUT.
ELECTRICAL/INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/SDM- FIRST REPORTED SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT ON AT 65,000 MILE'S SCANNED SYSTEM FOUND FAULT IN SDM AND WIRING GIVEN ESTIMATE OF $825.00 FOR REPAIRS, AT 84,000 WHOLE INSTRUMENT PANEL/SPEEDOMETER/RADIO WENT ON/OFF REPEATEDLY WHILE DRIVING. SCANNED SYSTEM FOUND FAULT IN WIRING AND SDM, I HAVE HAD NO AIR BAGS/SPEEDOMETER/INSTRUMENTS FOR 18 MONTHS. VERY UNSAFE IN MI. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH ON A COUNTRY ROAD, THE VEHICLE FISHTAILED CAUSING IT TO CRASH INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE LAP PART OF THE SEATBELT HELD HOWEVER, THE SHOULDER PORTION FAILED TO HOLD. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS DUE TO THE CRASH HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE SEATBELT.

PARKED ON BOAT RAMP, IN PARK WITH E BRAKE ON. BOAT WAS OFF TRAILER (AFLOAT). I WAS UNHOOKING AND WINDING UP FRONT STRAP WHEN I NOTICED TRUCK MOVING BACKWARD INTO LAKE. I WAS ABLE TO JUMP IN AND STOP VEHICLE BY APPLYING SERVICE BRAKES. A TOW CHAIN WAS ATTACHED, I PUT TRANSMISSION INTO DRIVE AND WAS SAFELY BE PULLED OUT. VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS. SHIFT SELECTOR AND E-BRAKE FAILURES? *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED IN THE EARLY MORNING OF 8/19/2006, POLICE AND WITNESS REPORTS SUGGESTED THE VEHICLE VEERED OFF THE RIGHT LANE ONTO THE BREAKDOWN LANE, AND THEN SWERVED ACROSS AND OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD, FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN, IMPACTING A TREE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ROAD WAS CLEAR AND DRY. A WITNESS STOPPED TO RENDER ASSISTANCE, RAN TO THE VEHICLE, VIEWED THE SITUATION AND RETURNED TO ANOTHER VEHICLE TO CALL IN THE EMERGENCY. THE WITNESS FELT AND HEARD TWO EXPLOSIONS AND WAS UNABLE TO GET WITHIN 10 FEET OF THE WRECK DUE TO THE EXTREME HEAT OF THE FIRE. THE DRIVER WAS WEARING A SEATBELT WHEN DEATH OCCURRED DUE TO THE FIRE. POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTS WERE TAKEN. PHOTOS WERE TAKEN AT THE IMPOUND LOT BY THE CONTACT.
JUST AFTER WARRANTY, SPEEDOMETER STICKS TO ZERO OR PEGS TO BOTTOM. I'VE ASKED MY DEALER ABOUT GETTING IT FIXED, THEY SAID IT WOULD COST SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. SINCE THEN, THE TACH HAS STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AND I FEEL THIS IS UNSAFE DUE TO NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED I AM GOING. *TR
I PURCHASED MY CHEVROLET EXTENDED CAB SILVERADO TRUCK APPROXIMATELY 7 MONTHS AGO. TODAY MY BRIDGESTONE V-STEEL RLB265 RADIAL LT245/75R16 LOAD RANGE E MTS 120/116S TIRE BLEW OUT. THE BLOW OUT OCCURRED ON THE SIDE OF THE TIRE (ABOUT THE 'E' IN THE WORD BRIDGESTONE. THERE WAS NO FOREIGN OBJECT - IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A WEAKNESS IN THE TIRE WALL. I ALMOST CAREENED INTO ANOTHER CAR - SINCE I WAS JUST BEGINNING TO MERGE ON FROM ONE EXPRESS WAY TO THE OTHER. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS & NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED BEFORE SOMEONE IS EITHER INJURED OR KILLED. IS THIS GOING TO KEEP OCCURRING WITH THESE TIRES? IF SO, I WANT ALL 4 REPLACED WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED UPON ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS FROM A STOP, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HESITATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED.
STEERING PROBLEM FREEPLAY OF 1 1/2" OR BETTER AT THE STEERING WHEEL.A CONSTANT CHALLENGE TO KEEP THIS TRUCK BETWEEN THE LINES IN WINDY WEATHER, AND IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE CHANGED PART AFTER PART WITH NO CHANGE. NOW SERVICE MANAGER SAYS THIS IS CHARACTERISTIC OF THE HYDROBOOST STEERING SYSTEM. GM WONT GO PAST WHAT THIS SERVICE MANAGER IS SAYING. AFTER A STOP IN THE PARKING LOT, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO PARK THE VEHICLE WANTED TO JUMP BACKWARDS FOR A SECOND. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. IT FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO GO INTO REVERSE INSTEAD OF PARK. *JB
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW. A FEW DAYS AFTER USING THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE I RECEIVED A "SERVICE 4WD" MESSAGE. RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. DEALER SAID THEY NEEDED TO UPDATE THE FLASH. A FEW WEEKS LATER SAME WARNING. RETURNED IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PERFORMED THE SAME ACTION. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO PERIODICALLY SELF-ENGAGE INTO 4WD LOW WHEN STOPPED (TRAFFIC SIGNAL OR STOP AND GO TRAFFIC). RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP A TOTAL OF 9 TIMES IN THE FIRST 72,000 MILES (EXTENDED WARRANTY). SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE 4WD BEGAN MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN SELF ENGAGING THEN NOT FUNCTIONING AT ALL. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $125 FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BUT SINCE THIS WAS A RECURRING PROBLEM THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT FOR FREE. DEALER UPDATED THE FLASH AGAIN AND SAID THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. LESS THAN 1 WEEK LATER AT A 2-WAY STOP THE PROBLEM RETURNED. WHEN I WAS STOPPED THE VEHICLE PUT ITSELF INTO 4WD LOW WITHOUT ME KNOWING. AS I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION I REALIZED THE PROBLEM AND PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO THE FLOOR TO AVOID GETTING HIT BY CROSS TRAFFIC. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD; HOWEVER, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO DISENGAGE THE 4WD I WAS UNABLE. AFTER RETURNING HOME IN 4WD LOW I PARKED THE TRUCK AND DID SOME RESEARCH. TURNS OUT THIS WAS A PRETTY COMMON PROBLEM AND CHEVY STILL DOESN'T HAVE A SOLUTION. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE SO I COULD TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IT SOMEHOW PUT THE TRANSFERCASE IN NEUTRAL AND GAVE ME A "SERVICE 4WD" MESSAGE WHICH PREVENTED ME FROM SELECTING ANY DRIVETRAIN SETTING. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND WAITING 15 MINUTES I STARTED THE VEHICLE WHILE HOLDING THE 2H SELECTOR. IT ENGAGED INTO 2H AND AT THAT POINT I FIGURED I HAD ENOUGH. I DISCONNECTED THE WIRE HARNESS FROM THE TRANSFER CASE ACTUATOR. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITHOUT 4WD EVER SINCE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER HAD MELTED. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY MADE.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ABOUT EVERY 6,000-7,000 MILES, WHEN THE PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE, THE FRONT END SHAKES BADLY. THE FIRST THREE TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE BRAKE PADS WERE RESURFACED. THE LAST TIME THE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. THE PROBLEM HAS RECURRED.
2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. *KB THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WHILE BRAKING. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT ROTORS WERE OUT BY 4 THOUSANDS OF AN INCH. THE DEALER RESURFACED BOTH FRONT ROTORS. THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM SO THE DEALER REPLACED THE ROTORS. THE CONSUMER STILL EXPERIENCED SOME BRAKE SHIMMY. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TREAD ON ALL SIX TIRES WAS FALLING APART. THERE WAS VISIBLE CHIPPING, CRACKING AND HOLES. A SERVICE DEALER WAS CONSULTED, WHO OFFERED TO REPLACE THE WORST ONE.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STALLED, RESULTING IN THE ENGINE TO QUIT. SINCE OUR TRUCK HAS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION, THE DRIVER SIMPLY "POPPED" THE CLUTCH AND THE ENGINE STARTED. ABOUT 10 MILES LATER, THE ENGINE STALLED SEVERAL MORE TIMES CAUSING THE ENGINE TO QUIT AGAIN FORCING US TO PULL TO THE SHOULDER. WE CHECKED THE BATTERY CABLES, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE ENGINE STARTED, BUT CONTINUED TO STALL. WHILE IN NEUTRAL,THE RPM'S WERE JUMPING OVER 3000 THEN FALLING BELOW 500. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BATTERY GAGE WAS READING NEARLY NOTHING. NO WARNING OR CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS EVER APPEARED . SINCE WE WERE IN ANOTHER STATE 500 MILES FROM HOME, OUR ONLY CHOICE WAS TO CONTINUE UNTIL WE COULD FIND A GM MECHANIC. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO STALL AND MISFIRE FOR ANOTHER 60 MILES. SINCE WE WERE A MERE 702 MILES OVER OUR FACTORY WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US WE WOULD HAVE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT, AND THE NEXT OPENING WOULD BE IN 8 DAYS. INSTEAD,WE WERE ABLE TO FIND A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOP, AND IN A MATTER OF MINUTES THE MECHANIC FOUND THE CAUSE OF THE STALLING TO BE A WIRE THAT PLUGS INTO THE COIL PACK. HE CALLED THE GM DEALERSHIP FOR A REPLACEMENT, AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED FROM THE MANUFACTURER AND IT WOULD TAKE A WEEK OR MORE TO ARRIVE. THE MECHANIC TOLD US THE FACTORY WIRE WAS NOT NECESSARY, HE COULD SIMPLY SPLICE INTO THE WIRE TO FIX OUR PROBLEM. SINCE STAYING AN ADDITIONAL WEEK WAS NOT AN OPTION, WE AGREED TO HAVE THE MECHANIC FIX THE WIRE BY SPLICING IT. WE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE SIMILAR STALLING 10,000 MILES LATER. THERE ARE 2 WIRES THAT ENTER THE SAME CLIP THEN PLUGS INTO THE COIL. THE CAUSE OF STALLING THE SECOND TIME WAS THE WIRE OPPOSITE OF THE ONE REPLACED BEFORE. THIS LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT THERE MAY BE A DEFECT IN THE COIL ITSELF, OR MERELY LOW-QUALITY WIRES INSTALLED BY GM. *NM
AFTER ENTERING VEHICLE WHICH HAD BEEN PARKED FOR 2 WEEKS A HEAVY BRUNT ELECTRICAL FIRE ORDER WAS PRESENT. AT THE SAME TIME A HEAVY SMOKE LIKE HAZE WAS PRESENT. UPON THROUGH EXAM THE FIRE WALL BLANKET IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS FOUND MELTED IN A ROUNDISH PATTERN. ONE MONTH LATTER THERE IS STILL A BURNING ODOR IN THE CAB. *NM

I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW IN 2005, IT HAS BEEN A PIECE OF JUNK FROM THE START, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK, REPLACED BOTH FRONT ROTORS & HUBS, THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS NORMAL BUT I THINK THAT IT IS JUST NORMAL FOR A JUNKY CHEVROLET, THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY PLUG ON THE HEATER MOTOR MELTED OFF AND WOULD NO LONGER WORK, FRONT SPEAKERS QUITE WORKING, FRONT BRAKE LINES RUSTED AWAY AND THE RESERVOIR WAS DRY AND THE BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH NEVER CAME ON FOR A WARNING, HAD TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES ON THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, BRAKES ARE VERY WEAK AND MOST OF THE TIME THE PEDAL IS VERY SOFT AND GOES TO THE FLOOR AND SCARES ME TO DEATH, YOU DON'T THINK THAT THE TRUCK IS GOING TO STOP, THIS BRAKE ISSUE IS A VERY BIG PROBLEM !!!, SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT I KNOW HAVE THE SAME MODEL TRUCK HAVE THE SAVE EXACT ISSUES, I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE TIME BUY ANOTHER CHEVROLET PRODUCT AS LONG AS I LIVE AND I SPREAD THIS INFO WITH ANYONE WHO MIGHT EVEN THINK OF BUYING A CHEVROLET, DON'T DO IT, THEY ARE JUNK !!!!!!!!!!!! *TR

WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE VEHICLE IDLED ROUGHLY AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT WIRE HARNESS, WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. RECENTLY, THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN SUGGESTED THAT THE EDGE BE REPLACED, WHICH WAS A COMPONENT THAT ENHANCES THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE. THE COMPONENT WAS REMOVED AT THE CONTACT'S REQUEST AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

2005 DURAMAX DIESEL, 2500: APPROXIMATELY 10 - 11,000 MILES THE STEERING SHAFT WAS CAUSING PROBLEMS. DEALERSHIP ONLY "LUBE KIT" VS. REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT TOO MANY VEHICLES NEEDED REPLACEMENT THEY STARTED ONLY REPLACING IF VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH. ALSO, THE LUBE IS ONLY A BANDAID AND WILL NEED TO BE DONE OVER AND OVER THROUGH OUT TERM OF OPERATION OF VEHICLE. NOT SAFE IF LEFT UNLUBED. THIS TRUCK ALSO HAS STARTED EXCESSIVE VIBRATING [16,500 MILES] WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK, DRIVE BUT STOPPED VIA BRAKE; NEUTRAL AND BRAKE APPLIED. BRAKE BEING APPLIED INCREASES THE EXCESSIVE VIBRATION. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE STOPPED DRIVING IT. *JB
