ENTERING FREEWAY AS TRUCK MERGED ON FREEWAY. VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO ONE SIDE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL. AFTER SEVERAL PEOPLE OBSERVED THE VEHICLE WE REALIZED WHEN YOU TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL THE BRAKE LOCKED UP BY THEMSELVES WITH NO ONE TOUCHING THEM. IF YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL THE BRAKES APPLY VERY RAPIDLY AND / OR LOCK UP. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WE HAD TOW TRUCK PICK UP VEHICLE AND DELIVER TO CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. LEFT VEHICLE AT DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND REPAIR THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE VEHICLE IN THE ACCIDENT AT NO CHARGE. I INFORMED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I THOUGHT THIS WAS A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. THEY ALL AGREED AND SAID THY HAD NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. WHEN I WENT TO TALK TO THEM AFTER FIXING THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE REPRESENTIVE PULLED ME TO THE SIDE AND TOLD ME HE THOUGHT THIS WAS A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND DID NOT BELIEVE THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. HE ALSO LET ME KNOW THAT THERE IS A TSB ON THIS PROBLEM AND CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM (TSB DOCUMENT ID 1686251) . AFTER TALKING OVER THIS MATER WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS THEY ALL AGREED THIS WAS A EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND COULD EASILY CAUSE INJURY AND / OR DEATH. WHAT IS AMAZING IS CHEVROLET IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND FROM WHAT I CAN SEE THE NTSB IS ALSO AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. IF I WAS IN A TURN ON A OVERPASS AND THE BRAKES SUDDENLY APPLIED FROM TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL I ASSUME THIS WOULD CAUSE A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW THE FINDINGS OF YOUR INVESTIGATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE DEFECT. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE ARE NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE REAR BRAKES DO NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE WHAT THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP ADJUSTED THE REAR BRAKES AND EXPLAINED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, IT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN A SECOND TIME FOR REPAIRS TO BE MADE. AT THAT TIME THE DRUMS WERE TURNED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AGAIN FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, WHILE STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK A THIRD TIME AND AT THIS TIME THE DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *NM
BOTH WHEEL BEARING SEALS LEAKING ON FRONT END CAUSING GREASE TO GET ON FRONT BRAKE ROTORS. *NM
9/2/2005; THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED ON THE VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE/REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CHEVY ENGINEERS WERE LOOKING INTO FIND THE PROBLEM. 9/27/2005; I RAN OUT OF FUEL ON THE FRONT TANK. THE REAR TANK OF THE TRUCK WAS FULL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE/REPAIR AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM AND THE TRANSFERRING OF FUEL BETWEEN THE TANKS. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED AS OF YET. I AM STILL AWAITING AN ANSWER FROM CHEVROLET. *NM
REAR SEATBELT DOES NOT LOCK DURING NORMAL USE. SB 05-09-40-002E ID# 10037184. NHTSA #05V163000. 2ND ROW CENTER SEATBELT NOT SAFE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE FAILURE BECOMES MORE SEVERE AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING FOR SOME TIME OR DURING WARM WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER OVER TEN TIMES AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND STEERING GEAR BOX. THE CONTACT WAS FINALLY INFORMED THAT THE TIRES HAD INSUFFICIENT AIR. THE FAILURES HAVE NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THE ENGINE ALSO OVERHEATS WHEN DRIVING UPHILL, PULLING A TRAILER, AND DURING WARM WEATHER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE COOLING FAN AND THE INTAKE SYSTEM. I PURCHASED A NEW 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO VIN [XXX]- MY TIRES ARE FALLING APART - THE RUBBER IS FALLING OFF. - I CALLED THE DEALER ABLE CHEVROLET, I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER AND WAS TOLD - TOO BAD. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE BRIDGESTONE/FIRESTONE TIRE. THE 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO CREW CAB, JUST STARTED WITHOUT NOTICE GETTING VERY HARD TO STEER FROM A STOP OR SLOW SPEED, NOTICED A "GRABBING" OF THE WHEEL WHEN SLOWED TO MAKE A TURN. DETERMINED THE CAUSE TO BE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WENT OUT, NO FURTHER DETAILS WERE GIVEN, AND THE PART WAS REPLACED.*JB
THE POWER STEERING STOPS WORKING AT LOW SPEED OR PARKED. I HAVE CONTACTED GM SEVERAL TIMES REGARDING THIS AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO FIX AT THIS TIME. DEALERSHIP HAS WITNESSED AND DOCUMENTED THE PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE, AS IT GETS WORSE..IE. MAKE COMMON, EVERY DAY.
NOTICED VEHICLE VIBRATION AT 45 MPH LIKE TIRE OUT OF ROUND. AT 55 MPH AND GREATER, VIBRATION FELT LIKE TIRE OUT OF BALANCE. GM TELLS ME PROBLEM IS NORMAL, WILL NOT CORRECT. GM CALLS THE PROBLEM "BEAMING", AND SUGGESTS PLACING 500 LBS IN BED OF TRUCK. TRIED THIS AND VIBRATION STILL EXISTS. TRUCK SHAKES SO BAD AT 65 MPH THAT IT IS UNSTABLE IN CURVES, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. THE VEHICLE CANNOT CONTINUE TO BE RELIABLE WITH THIS CONTINUOUS VIBRATION EATING AWAY AT THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS DEVELOPED A HARMONIC NOISE AT 45 MPH AND LESS, WHICH THE DEALER TELLS ME IS ALSO NORMAL AND WILL NOT REPAIR. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. HE WAS USING THE JACK, AND HAD THE JACK SHAFT PLACED ON THE JACK MOUNT. THE JACK SHAFT BENT, CAUSING IT TO SLIP OFF OF THE MOUNT AND DAMAGE THE TRUCK. ALMOST CAUSED THE CONSUMER TO BE STUCK UNDER THE TRUCK. THE CONTACT DID NOT FEEL THAT THE JACK WEIGHT WAS INTENDED FOR THIS TRUCK. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT HE CALL THE MANUFACTURER. *AK
WHILE THE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD , I PRESSED THE RELEASE BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL TO ADJUST, THEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF, ALL THE PANEL GAUGE ICONS LIGHTED UP AND THE DIGITAL DISPLAY FOR THE "P R D R L" CYCLED ACROSS. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO RESTART THE ENGINE. ONCE I GOT HOME, I WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE IDLING IN PARK ON THE DRIVE WAY. THIS IS A NEW SILVERADO PURCHASED JUNE 24, 2005. WILL TAKE IN TO DEALER ASAP. *NM
2005 SILVERADO, HAD TO REPLACE TIRES. SIDES WERE WORN OUT. DEALERSHIP THAT WE PURCHASED FROM WOULD NOT REPLACE. WENT TO MY PONTIAC DEALER AND THEY PRORATED THE AMOUNT FOR NEW TIRES (BRIDGESTONE TIRES). *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DECELERATING, THE BRAKES WOULD PULSATE AND EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL VIBRATION. THE ABS LIGHT WAS ALSO ILLUMINATED WHICH THE CONTACT STATED WAS THE CAUSE OF THE BRAKE PULSATION. THE CONTACT MADE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE LINE AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN ANTI-LOCK BOX. TRUCK HAS 14000 MILES, IT HAS CONSTANT OVER HEATING PROBLEMS WHILE TOWING MY 8K TRAVEL TRAILER. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE CHEVROLET DEALER ABOUT IT, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT AT THIS TIME HAVE NO FIX. I CALL STUPID BECAUSE I HEARD ONLINE THAT THE 06 MODELS HAVE REVISED COOLING SYSTEMS AND A LARGER TURBO CHARGER. MY BELIEF IS THE FIX IS TO MUCH $$ AND THEY WILL ONLY TAKE CARE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT TOW AND HAVE ISSUES. I HAVE NOTICE A LOT OF INFORMATION ON THE NET ABOUT 04.5 AND 05 LLY DURAMAX TRUCK THAT TOW OVER 10000 HAVE THIS ISSUE BUT MY TRAVEL TRAILER FULLY LOADED ONLY WEIGHS UNDER 9K. THE MAJOR DOWN SIDE IS THE TRUCKS INABILITY TO MAINTAIN THE SPEED LIMIT DUE TO THE OVERHEATING WATER TEMPERATURE AND THE POWER LOSS FORMED A COOLING FAN THAT RUNS HYPERSPEEDS NO STOP WHEN TOWING. MY TOWING HAS BEEN DONE AT LOW OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES RANGING FOR 75 TO 85 DEGREES OUTSIDE. THIS TRUCK IS NOT PERFORMING AS ADVERTISED OR SUPPOSED TO BE DESIGNED FOR. *NM
VEHICLE DIESEL SYSTEM HAS A PROBLEM TRANSFERRING FUEL INTO THE TRUCK FOR USE. IT RUNS OUT WHILE THE FRONT FUEL TANK IS STILL FULL OF FUEL. THE FUEL TANK NEVER READS OVER HALF FULL. IT IS BEING TOWED FOR THE SECOND TIME DURING THE MONTH OF JULY. IT WILL BE IN THE DEALERSHIP SHOP FOR THE 3RD TIME SINCE PURCHASED, 2ND TIME THIS MONTH. WE ARE TOLD THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO, SINCE THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. WE ARE CURRENTLY WAITING FOR A SERVICE BULLETIN. THIS TRUCK IS OUR ONLY WORK TRUCK AND A CAR LOANER DOES NOT HELP WITH THE TOWING OF OUR MINI. *JB
IN JULY, MY SERVICE AIR BAGS LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY IN MY TRUCK. EVERYTIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE THE LIGHT. NOT LONG AFTER THAT STARTED TO HAPPEN, THE TRUCK STARTED TO "CHIME"(WARNING SIGNAL) AND BEEP, ALSO AT INTERMITTENT INTERVALS. AFTER 5 TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND 19 DAYS LATER(IN THE SHOP) THEY MIGHT HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. *JB
DT: 2005 CHEVY C1500 HALF TON PICKUP T WAS PLACED IN STORAGE FOR ABOUT A MONTH. THIS VEHICLE WAS NEVER USED AND HAD ONLY 13 MILES ON THE SPEEDOMETER WHEN RECIEVED FROM THE DEALER. THIS WAS A COMPANY VEHICLE, AND WHEN OUT OF STORAGE IT WAS DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO BRAKE FLUID. THE MASTER CYCLINDER WAS COMPLETELY DRY. TOOK TO A DEALER AND DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS. ESSENTIALLY ,THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. *AK
I BELIEVE MY 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500, DURAMAX/ALLISON WAS EQUIPED WITH UNDER DESIGNED COOLING SYSTEMS; BOTH TRANSMISSION AND ENGINE. ON SLOW MOUNTAIN TYPE ROADS I CAN RUN MY UNLOADED TRUCK INTO NEAR OVERHEAT CONDITIONS. NEW 2005 SILVERADO 2500 HD 6.0L, RANDOM, METAL POPPING, CRACKING NOISES WHILE IN MOTION, AND PARKED. SOUNDS LIKE SMALL ROCKS HITTING THE SHEET METAL BODY. SOUNDS ARE NOT ISOLATED TO ONE AREA ON TRUCK, COME FROM ALL OVER, BOTH SIDES. STARTED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE. DEALER SAYS IT IS RELATED TO "HEAT SHIELDS" AND A SERVICE BULLETIN IS PUBLISHED BY GM. I AM SUPPOSED TO GET A RECALL NOTICE WITHIN 30 DAYS OR SO. I CANNOT FIND A RECALL NOTICE/SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THIS IN ANYONE'S RECORDS. *JB
2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500HD WITH THE 6.6 LITER DURAMAX ENGINE OVERHEATED WHEN PULLING MY 25 FEET TRAVEL TRAILER. FOUND THIS TO BE A HAZARD THAT GM WAS AWARE AND WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.*AK
MY 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO 1500, 4.3 ENGINE AND 4 SPEED AUTO TRANSMISSIONHAS A PROBLEM WHEN USING CRUISE. GOING UP HIL AND IT NEEDS TO DOWNSHIFT IT WILL GO INTO 3RD GEAR FOR ANOUT A SECOND AND HALF THEN TO SECOND WITH RPM GOING FROM 1800 TO 4500 IN LESS THAN 2 SECONDS. I'M BEING TOLD THIS IS NORMAL AND GM HAS NO PLANS TO FIX IT.
STEERING LOCKS IN LEFT & RIGHT TURNS AS WELL AS U-TURNS. *JB
I BOUGHT A NEW 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO IN MAY OF 2005. A FEW WEEKS AFTER OWNING MY TRUCK, AND WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES ON IT, I NOTICED THE AUTO TRANSMISSION WOULD SLIP. IT WOULD ONLY OCCUR WHEN I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. BASICALLY, I WOULD GIVE THE TRUCK GAS AND THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP TO ABOUT 2,000 RPM'S, WITHOUT THE VEHICLE MOVING, AND THEN IT WOULD ALL OF THE SUDDEN MAKE A LOUD THUD SOUND AND THEN LURCH FORWARD, AS IF IT WAS NOT IN GEAR AND THEN ALL OR THE SUDDEN PUT INTO DRIVE. THIS CAN'T BE GOOD FOR THE TRANSMISSION OF THE ENGINE. I CALLED THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM IF I BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN IF THEY COULD LOOK AT IT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD, BUT IF THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM OR IF THERE WAS NOT ANY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM TO FIX IT. THE SLIPPING OF MY TRANSMISSION HAS OCCURRED ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES. THE PROBLEM IS IT WORKS FINE MOST OF THE TIME EXCEPT WHEN IT SLIPS. SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. I COULD STOP AND ACCELERATE 100 TIMES AND IT WON'T SLIP. THEN JUST OUT OF THE BLUE IT WILL DECIDE TO SLIP, AND MAKE THAT TERRIBLE BANGING THUD OF THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT. I HOPE THAT CHEVROLET FINDS OUT WHAT THIS PROBLEM IS AND FIXES IT SO I DON'T HAVE TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION AFTER MY WARRANTY ENDS AFTER 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES. NOT TO MENTION THE SAFETY HAZARD IF I HAD TO ACCELERATE TO GET ACROSS TRAFFIC AND MY TRUCKS TRANSMISSION HESITATED AND I GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT OF IT. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 DURAMAX EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST BEGAN HE REPORTED POPPING AND BACKFIRING TO DEALERSHIP. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES FOR AN EXTENDED AMOUNT OF TIME ON EACH EXAMINATION. THE DEALER EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM FIRST HAND. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER AND THE FUEL RAILS. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL EXPERIENCING POWER LOSS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED SIX TIMES. THEY REQUESTED ANOTHER DIAGNOSTIC TEST BE DONE ON THE TRUCK. *AK
THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON HIS 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HAD ILLUMINATED. *NM THE DEALER RESET THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, HOWEVER IT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND THE DEALER STATED IT WAS A BAD GAS PRESSURE SENSOR. 4 MONTHS AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING AND THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO PASS OTHER MOTORIST ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CONSUMER MANAGED TO GET TO HIS DESTINATION WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIT UP AND THE VEHICLE CUT OFF. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE ABS SENSOR AND CRANK POSITIONING SENSOR WERE BAD. *JB *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN VIBRATING EXCESSIVELY. THE UPPER STEERING SHAFT HAS FAILED CONTINUOUSLY. ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE DEALER HAS MADE ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE STEERING SHAFT. THE DEALER REFUSED TO MAKE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS UNLESS THE CONTACT ASSUMES THE REPAIR COST. THE VIN IS UNAVAILABLE. THE FIRST FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS NOW 127,000.

I COMPLAINED TO DEALER SINCE THE PURCHASE OF VEHICLE ABOUT A NOISE AND FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE WHEN DRIVING SLOW OVER A ROUGH ROAD. AFTER 2 YEARS AND APPROACHING THE END OF MY WARRANTY I CONVINCED THE MECHANIC TO CHANGE OUT THE RACK-N-PINION STEERING UNIT. PROBLEM FIXED AND DRIVES LIKE A NEW TRUCK. AK
THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. THE VEHICLE BOUNCED AS IT WENT DOWN THE ROAD AT 50-65 MPH. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THE CONTACT BOUGHT IT NEW. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WILL DO ANYTHING. THE CONTACT TOOK VEHICLE TO 2 DEALERS, AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY COULD FEEL THE BOUNCE BUT "IT WASN'T THAT BAD". OVERALL TRUCK DRIVES LIKE A DUMP TRUCK. FRONT TIRES WORE IN LESS THAN 2500 MILES. DEALER ROTATED THE TIRES AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND SAID "TRY THAT". DRIVERS-SIDE OUTSIDE REAR VIEW MIRROR SHAKES EXCESSIVELY, RENDERING IT USELESS. DEALER REPLACED THE MIRROR, BUT STATED THE PROBLEM WAS MOST LIKELY WITH THE AFTERMARKET BUG SHIELD ON THE HOOD. AFTER REPLACEMENT THE MIRROR STILL SHOOK. I REMOVED THE BUG SHIELD, WHICH TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM. DEALER STATED THAT A GM BUG SHIELD WAS DESIGNED NOT TO CAUSE THE DISTURBANCE THAT CAUSES THE MIRROR TO SHAKE.

THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS UPON ACCELERATION. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP WHEN CROSSING AN INTERSECTION, MAKING THE VEHICLE VOLURNABLE TO BE HIT. THE RPM'S RISE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE COMES TO AN ALMOST STAND STILL. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES BUT NO ACCIDENT OCCERED. THE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION SLIPPED WHILE CROSSING A 4 LANE DIVIDED HIGHWAY WITH TRAFFIC FLOWING AT 65MPH. NO ACCIDENT OCCERED AND THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGED BEFORE AN ACCIDENT COULD OCCERED. GM HAS BEEN CONTACTED MANY TIMES WITH NO RESPONSE TO FIXING THE PROBLEM. GM WANTS TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE FIXING, AND TELLING ME NO SERVICE CAN BE DONE AT THIS TIME. AFTER PURCHASING (AND RETURNING!) A 2005 CHEVY SILVERADO PU I CONTACTED THE DEALER ABOUT THE OFF CENTER STEERING WHEEL. HE ACTED LIKE HE HAD NO IDEA THEY WERE LIKE THAT (AND THEY'VE BEEN FOR YEARS!) SO HE ALLEGEDLY CALLED THE FACTORY TO FIND OUT WHY AND TOLD ME IT'S A SAFETY FEATURE!!! THIS IS SO BOGUS ! IF IT IS A SAFETY FEATURE - WHY AREN'T THE CARS OFF CENTER? WHY DOESN'T FORD AND DODGE MAKE THEIRS LIKE THAT? THIS TRUCK WAS A NIGHTMARE TO DRIVE - SPECIFICS: HORSE TRAILER SWAYED WHEN PULLED W/THIS TRUCK. IT HYDROPLAINED IN THE SLIGHTEST AMOUNT OF WATER. MY 2005 SILVERADO BEGAN HAVING A RATTLE IN THE STEERING AT 5,000 MILES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING KNUCKLE AND SHOWED ME A PILE OF THEM AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. AT 9,000 MILES THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED AND THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A 'NEW CAMPAIGN SOLUTION' WHICH WAS A HEAVY GREASE. THIS WORKED FOR 2000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM RECURRED. THE TRUCK HAS HAD THIS GREASE JOB SEVERAL TIMES AND GM REFUSES TO REPLACE THE STEERING KNUCKLE AGAIN. ON A SLOW LEFT TURN THE TRUCK RATTLES LOUDLY, AND 'JUMPS'. PURCHASED 2005 BRAND NEW FROM DEALER. I AM FAMILIAR WITH WHAT TO DO TO BREAK-IN A NEW VEHICLE. I OCCASIONALLY CROSS A MOUNTAIN, AND WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES LIGHTLY, THEY IMMEDIATELY START TO PULSATE VERY NOTICEABLY. TO GET THEM TO STOP PULSATING, I MUST APPLY THE BRAKES FAIRLY HARD. I SPECIAL ORDERED A 2005 CHEVY 4X4 TRUCK BECAUSE I WANTED A SINGLE CAB. WHEN I FIRST GOT IT, SOMETHING DIDN'T SEEM RIGHT ABOUT IT AND ABOUT THE 3RD DAY I REALIZED THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF CENTER. I TOOK IT BACK TO GUS PAULOS CHEVROLET IN SLC UTAH AND THEY WERE SEEMINGLY STUNNED ALSO. THE SALESMAN ACTUALLY WENT AROUND THE LOT LOOKING TO SEE IF OTHER TRUCKS WERE OFF CENTER ALSO. THEY WERE. THERE WAS A FACTORY REP THERE , HAVING SOME 30 YRS WITH GMC AND IT TOOK HIM A LONG TIME TO SEE WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT ALSO. SALESMAN SAID HE'D CALL BACK TO THE FACTORY AND FIND OUT WHY THEY WERE LIKE THAT. CALLED ME A COUPLE DAYS LATER AND SAID IT WAS A SAFETY FEATURE. WHAT?!?!?! GM TECHNICIAN LINE HAS A CASE # ON FILE, AND TOLD THE TECHNICIAN WHO RELAYED THE INFORMATION TO MYSELF THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT AT THIS TIME HAVE NO FIX. I CALL BS BECAUSE THE 06 MODELS HAVE REVISED COOLING SYSTEMS AND A LARGER TURBO CHARGER. MY BELIEF IS THE FIX IS TO MUCH $$ AND THEY WILL ONLY TAKE CARE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT TOW AND HAVE ISSUES.
