ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO I STARTED HEARING AND FEELING A LIGHT KNOCKING IN MY STEERING COLUMN WHEN I WOULD MAKE A TURN. IT TOOK SEVERAL MONTHS FOR IT TO GET CONSISTENT FOR ANYONE ELSE TO HEAR IT THEN IT BEGAN TO GET A LOT WORSE. I TOOK IT BY MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS IN THE STEERING. HE SAID THAT THEY USE TO JUST LUBE THEM AGAIN BUT NOW YOU HAVE TO ORDER A KIT FROM THE MANUFACTURE. HE KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS IMMEDIATELY AFTER DRIVING IT THROUGH THE PARKING LOT BECAUSE HE HAD THE VERY SAME PROBLEM ON HIS CHEVY TRUCK IN THE PAST AND HAD SEEN SEVERAL OTHERS SINCE THEN. HE INFORMED ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE FOR NOW AND I HAVE YET TO GET IT FIXED. YOU CAN TELL IT IS A LUBRICATION PROBLEM BECAUSE IT IS NOT AS NOTICEABLE IN THE WINTER VS. THE SUMMER WHEN IT IS HOTTER AND THE LUBE FLOWS MORE FREELY. NOW I SEE THE SAME COMPLAINT ON HERE AND OTHER WEB SITES REGARDING THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THAT IT WILL KEEP HAPPENING OVER AND OVER. THE KNOCKING HAS BECOME VERY LOUD WHEN I MAKE A TURN EITHER WAY NOW. IF THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL THEN WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN RECALLED? ESPECIALLY IF A OWNER HAS TO CONTINUALLY HAVE IT FIXED AFTER EVERY 10-20 THOUSAND MILES. I AM AFRAID THAT IF IT IS NOT FIXED SOON I MAY LOSE CONTROL OF THE STEERING. I HAVE ALSO NOTICED A LOT OF WEAR ON MY TIRES THAT SHOULD NOT BE THERE AFTER KEEPING IT CONTINUALLY MAINTAINED. MY TRUCK IS FIVE YEARS OLD BUT IT ONLY HAS AROUND 25,000 MILES ON IT. PLEASE I URGE YOU TO LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE DOES END UP HURT.
2006 CHEVY 2500HD ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUGHT ON FIRE 7 HOURS AFTER TRUCK WAS DRIVEN AT 4AM. TRUCK WAS TOTALED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS NOT ALIGNED CORRECTLY AND HE HAD TO CONSTANTLY MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
I HAVE AN 06 CHEVY SILVERADO 2500HD EXTRA CAB, I LIVE IN CT. I RECENTLY STARTED EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP, THE ABS KICKS ON, WHETHER DRIVING ON WET OR DRY ROADS. I HAD AA WARRANTY WHICH WAS 3 YEAR , 36,000 MILES WHICH THE 3 YEARS EXPIRED LAST OCTOBER AND THE VEHICLE RECENTLY TURNED 37,000 MILES. I HAVE FOUND MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE AND THE LOCAL DEALER SEEMS TO KNOW NOTHING OF ANY PROBLEM AND OF COURSE WANTS ME TO BRING THE TRUCK IN FOR A DIAGNOSIS. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS RANDOMLY, AND IT DEFINITELY INCREASES MY STOPPING DISTANCE. I HAVE CONSIDERED REMOVING THE FUSE FOR THE ABS SYSTEM BUT FEEL I MAY NEED THE ABS IN SOME FUTURE CIRCUMSTANCE. ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR
2006 CHEV HD2500 BLOWER MOTOR QUIT WORKING. TESTED AND FOUND BLOWER MOTOR CONTROL MODULE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL MELTED ALONG WITH PIGTAIL CONNECTOR. WE WERE TOLD BY CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. REPLACED CONTROL MODULE ALONG WITH PIGTAIL. DEALERSHIP HAS THESE PARTS IN STOCK. MAY POSSIBLY BE A FIRE HAZARD.
WHENEVER USING THE HEATER IN MY 2006 CHEVY PICK UP TRUCK YOU CAN SMELL STRONG BURNING SMELL COMING FROM UNDER THE DASH ON PASS SIDE OF TRUCK . ONE NIGHT TURNED ON HEATER WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND COULD SEE FLOOR BOARD ON PASS SIDE GLOWING ORANGE AND STARTING TO SMOKE, HAD TO PULL OVER DO TO THE SMELL OF MELTING PLASTIC AND BURNING ELECTRICAL TAPE . HEATER AND A/C NO LONGER WORK SO NOW HAVE NO DEFROST IN THE WINTER , CAN LIVE WITHOUT THE A/C BUT COULD NOT MELT THE ICE IN THE WINTER. BOUGHT AC/DELCO PIGTAIL CONNECTOR REPLACEMENT PARTS AND REWIRED THEM TO SPEC AND TURNED ON A/C AND IT WORKS, ONLY PROBLEM IS THE WIRES GET SO HOT IT BURNS YOUR HAND AT THE TOUCH AND YOU CAN SMELL THE WIRE COVERING STARTING TO MELT AGAIN. IT IS MY OPINION THAT IF LEFT UNCORRECTED MY TRUCK COULD CATCH FIRE IF A HEAVER GAGE WIRE IS NOT INSTALLED TO MAINTAIN THE CURRENT OF THE BLOWER MOTOR. MY TRUCK HAS 39000 MILES ! ! ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED, THE ABS ACTIVATED, CAUSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FADE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT DEFECTIVE BRAKE SENSORS WERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; HE WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD CALL HIM BACK AND TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. A MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE INNER TIE RODS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND A PART OF THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. A LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAYS, "THERE IS NO RECALL" EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AN EARLIER RECALL ON CHEVROLET-TRUCK STEERING SYSTEMS. THE MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTED US TO GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU. BOUGHT MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO GM CERTIFIED WITH ONLY 40,300 AND OUR FAMILY TOOK A VACATION SOUTH AND DID A GREAT JOB BUT COMING BACK WAS A DIFFERENT STORY HIGHWAY WAS GREAT BUT WHEN I GOT INTO TOWN I WAS HEARING A GRINDING NOISE AND WE TURNED LEFT AND THAT IS WHEN WE HEARD A CRACK AND AFTER THAT I WAS THINKING I HAD A FLAT TIRE SO I PULLED OVER AND SAW IS WAS NOT THE CASE SO I LEFT I WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IT SOUNDED LIKE SOME WAS DRAGGING AND I MADE IT HOME CHECKED ALL LEVELS ON THE FLUIDS AND WHERE NORMAL,THEN I CALLED CHEVY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT MUST TOW THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP.I FOLLOWED UP WITH THEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RIGHT SIDE WHEEL BEARING FAILED AND LUCKILY IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR IT WOULD OF COST ME $366.94 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT GREASABLE AND I HAVE A OLDER 80S CHEVY AND ITS NEVER HAPPENED AND I DROVE IT FOR ALMOST 50,000 AND I STILL HAVE IT TODAY. NOT BUILT GOOD LIKE THEY WERE. *TR
I HAD A TRANSMISSION COOLER LINE TO FAIL AND LEAK BADLY AFTER 41,000 MILES.IT WAS CAUGHT IN TIME TO PREVENT TRANSMISSION FAILURE BUT HOW ABOUT THE NEXT ONE?IT WAS REPLACED WITH A NEW PART AT THE CHEVY DEALER. *TR
HAD BEEN OUT OF TOWN FOR WEEK-END. WAS RETURNING AND TRAVELING NORTH ON I-65 TOWARDS MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA. EXITED I-65 NORTH TO MAKE A GAS STOP AT GREENVILLE, ALABAMA. UPON REACHING YIELD SIGN NOTICED LOUD SCRAPING, CRUNCHING, POPPING NOISE COMING FROM LEFT FRONT OF VEHICLE. STOPPED IMMMEDIATELY AT SERVICE STATION. CHECKED VEHICLE BY MOVING BACKWARDS AND FORWARDS. NOISE CONTINUED. SPENT THE NIGHT AT HOTEL. CALLED REPAIR SHOP FOLLOWING MONDAY MORNING. THEY REPLACED FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY. THEY HAVE OLD PARTS. MECHANIC SAID WE WERE LUCKY WHEEL DID NOT COME OFF ON INTERSTATE AND CAUSE BAD MVW. VEHICLE HAS 35,000 MILES ON IT. NO NOISE WAS COMING FROM WHEEL UNTIL EXITING HIGHWAY. NO MOTION IN STEERING OR ANY INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. WAS TOLD BY SEVERAL OTHER MECHANICS THAT THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON INCIDENT. THAT THE ASSEMBLY IS NOT SERVICABLE AND THAT IT JUST GOES BAD IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT WARNING. HAVE HAD REPORT THAT ONE VEHICLE HAD BOTH WHEEL HUBS GO OUT WITHIN A FEW WEEKS OF EACH OTHER. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BROKEN OFF ON BOTH SIDES OF THE 6.0 ENGINE, CAUSING EXHAUST FUMES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT WHEN I DRIVING THE VEHICLE. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE NEW AND HAVE NEVER HAD ANY ENGINE WORK DONE TO THIS VEHICLE.

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP EXPECTING IT TO BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. DEALERSHIP QUOTED $841.08 BEFORE TAXES TO FIX TRANSMISSION LINES. I INQUIRED ABOUT WARRANTY AND HE SAID IT WASN'T THE ENGINE. I DECIDED TO SEARCH ON LINE BECAUSE I THOUGHT THE TRANSMISSION WAS A PART OF THE POWERTRAIN AND FOUND MANY, MANY, MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. OF COURSE NO WHERE NEAR THE $ I WAS QUOTED. THE COMPLAINTS EVEN ARE HAVING THE SAME VEHICLE IN MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I JUST WANDER WHY NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT THIS. HOW IS THIS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE? *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT AN EXPENSE OF $432.41. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48985. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. DURING BRAKE APPLICATION THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FRONT ABS SENSOR WERE CLEANED AND THEN REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF $270.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,642.
WE PURCHASED A CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP IN 2006. MY HUSBAND HAS BABIED THIS TRUCK, NEVER PULLED ANYTHING HEAVY AND HAS RARELY HAD IT IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. IN DECEMBER 2009 THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP, THE TRUCK AT THIS TIME HAD 20,400 M/L MILES ON IT AND NOT MUCH MORE AT THIS TIME, YES TWENTY THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED. THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AS IT WAS 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES. THE DEALERSHIP BILL ROBERTS CHEVEROLET THAT WE PURCHASED THIS TRUCK WAS IN BOLIVAR MO 60 MILES FROM US, THE WARRANTY WAS OUT SO WE HIRED A LOCAL MECHANIC TO DO THE JOB FOR US. HE IS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND HAS DONE WARRANTY WORK FOR A FORD DEALERSHIP IN APPLETON CITY MO AND OTHER DEALERSHIPS IN THE AREA. WE KNEW THAT IF WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IT WOULD COST US MORE THAN HAVING IT DONE LOCALLY AND MY HUSBAND DID NOT WANT TO HAUL IT 60 MILES OR ANY MILES TO BE REPAIRED KNOWING THAT WE HAD NO WARRANTY AND NO TRAILER TO HAUL IT ON.. I FELT LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITH THE LOW MILES ON THE TRUCK AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. I SPOKE TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT WHO INFORMED ME THAT SINCE WE TOOK IT SOMEWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN THEM THAT WE COULD NOT BE HELPED BUT HAD WE BROUGHT IT TO THEM THEY COULD HAVE HELPED OUT WITH IT DUE TO THE LOW MILES, EVEN THOUGH THE WARRANTY WAS UP. NOW A WARRANTY IS A WARRANTY AND IS BLACK AND WHITE, APPARENTLY THERE IS ALSO GRAY, WHICH WE AS CONSUMERS ARE NOT AWARE OF. SO HOW WERE WE TO KNOW TO TAKE IT TO THEM UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES. HOW WERE WE TO KNOW THAT THERE WERE GRAY AREAS IN THE WARRANTY AS IT WAS NOT LISTED AS SO. WE PAID ALMOST 1500.00 FOR THIS TO BE REPAIRED OUT OF OUR OWN POCKET. I WORK 2 JOBS SO THANKFULLY WE HAD THE MONEY BUT IF I WASN'T IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A FINANCIAL BURDEN ON US, ESPECIALLY AT CHRISTMAS TIME. MY HUSBAND HAS TAKEN HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR RECALLS TO BE REPAIRED, THEY HAVE A LOG OF THE MILES LISTED AT THOSE TIMES, AND HAS FAITHFULLY KEPT IT SERVICED. *TR
2006 CHEVY 1500 PICKUP WITH 37,000 MILES ANTILOCK BRAKES ALWAYS ON CAUSING LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES. HAD BRAKES REPAIRED TWICE. I ALSO OWNED A 2002 CHEVY PU WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS AND MY SON HAD A 2001 CHEVY 2500 HD PICKUP AND A 2002 CHEVY TAHOE WITH BRAKE PROBLEMS. CANADA ALSO RECALLED BRAKES ON CHEVY PU'S. *TR
THE HEATER FAN BLOWER WENT BAD, MELTED BOTH ENDS OF THE PLUG-IN ON THE RESISTOR BLOCK. I CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS PART AND THAT IT WOULD BE $500. TO FIX IT. I PURCHASED THE PARTS TO FIX IT, AND DID IT MYSELF. I SENT A LETTER TO CHEVROLET AND ASK WHY THE PARTS WEREN'T RECALLED, THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, CAUSING A WRECK OR DEATH. THEY CALLED BACK LATER AND SAID THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW THEY HAD A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. IF THEY HAVE A SPECIAL WIRING KIT MADE JUST TO FIX THIS PROBLEM HOW CAN SAY THEY DON'T KNOW IT EXISTS. THE LOCAL DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD FIXED OVER 50 OF THESE, AND THIS IS A VERY SMALL DEALER, SO HOW MANY HAVE BEEN FIXED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND $500. A HIT. THE CONSUMER SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT CHEVROLET KNOWS THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH. *TR
REF: 2006 SILVERADO Z71. THE ABS SYSTEM ON MY VEHICLE ROUTINELY ENGAGES (RELEASES BRAKE PRESSURE) DURING SLOWDOWN IN THE 3-8 MPH SPEED RANGE. THIS ENGAGEMENT REQUIRES LONGER STOPPING DISTANCES AND CAN LEAD TO DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN THE LAST PORTION OF A STOP. THIS SAFETY ISSUE WITH MY 2006 VEHICLE IS IDENTICAL TO THE ONE NHTSA IDENTIFIED FOR THESE SAME TYPE VEHICLES 2005 AND PRIOR. ALTHOUGH MAINTENANCE HAS NOT BEEN ACCOMPLISHED ON MY VEHICLE YET, I BELIEVE IT IS THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE AS EARLIER MODELS. *TR
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 DIESEL PU - I NOTICED RED FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. WHEN MY MECHANIC LOOKED AT IT HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINES WERE LEAKING, ALONG WITH THE POWER STEERING LINE. HE HAD WORKED ON FOUR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. HAD I DRIVEN TO THE DEALER, 50 MILES AWAY, I COULD HAVE LOCKED UP OR BURNED UP MY TRANSMISSION AND MAY HAVE LOST MY POWER STEERING AS WELL. WHEN I SPOKE WITH A 15 YEAR SERVICE TECH AT THE DEALER, HE SAID THERE IS DEFINITELY AN ISSUE & HAS BEEN FOR OVER 12 MONTHS. *TR
PURCHASED A NEW TRUCK IN 2006. THE TRUCK HAD JUST OVER 42000 ORIGINAL MILES. THE TRUCKS WARRANTY WAS 3 YEARS 36 MILES. AND THE TRANSMISSION IS SHOT WHICH CHEVY IS DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. THE TRANSMISSION SHOP IS TELLING ME THIS IS A REALLY ODD INCIDENT AND THAT I SHOULD FILE A COMPLAINT WITH YOU. *TR

MY 2006 DURMAX DIESEL 2500 TRUCK HAS 3 TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES THAT RUN FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE RADIATOR. THESE HOSES HAVE ALUMINUM PIECES ON EACH END AND THEY LEAK OIL AT THE JOINT WHERE THE ALUMINUM JOINS A PIECE OF RUBBER HOSE IN THE CENTRE. THEY CONTINUOUSLY LEAK TRANSMISSION OIL ON THE GROUND AT THIS CRIMP JOIN. THE COLDER THE WEATHER, THE WORSE THESE HOSES LEAK. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM WITH THESE AS DETAILED BY DOING A WEB SEARCH. I PULLED IN MY GARAGE FROM A TRIP AND A FEW MINUTES LATER MY WIFE SAW SMOKE COMING FROM THE GARAGE. LOOKING HERE I SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL INCIDENTS CONCERNING THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING HUB AND ALSO NUMEROUS CASES WITH THE RIGHT SIDE. ON THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE NOISE BECAME A HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND, AND THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEGAN WOBBLING BADLY. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO ATWOOD CHEVROLET IN VICKSBURG, MS WHERE I LIVE. MY CHEVROLET 2500 HAS A FUNCTION CALLED GRADE BRAKING TO ASSIST THE BRAKES WHEN TOWING A LOAD DOWN HILL. IT HAS QUIT FUNCTIONING BUT THE DEALERS CANNOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID SINCE NO CODES SHOW ON THE COMPUTER I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL I HAVE A TRAILER BEHIND IT AND AM NEAR A DEALER THAT IS NEAR A STEEP GRADE TO TEST IT. THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SYSTEM IT TO KEEP THE TRUCK FROM RUNNING AWAY ON A STEEP GRADE. DOESN'T SOUND LIKE THE PLACE TO TEST IT. THERE ARE NO STEEP GRADES WITH IN 150 MILES OF ME.
