TL*THE CONTACT LEASES A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THEN DIMMED. APPROXIMATELY THREE DAYS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CONTACT HEARD SCRAPING NOISES COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE AND THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A GAS STATION AND WAS LOSING BRAKING POWER. THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT DETERMINED THAT THE WHEEL BEARING FAILED. NO OTHER WARNING INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,400 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,100. UPDATED 10/27/2008. *LJ THE DEALER FOUND THE A FAULTY LEFT FRONT HUB-CALIPER BRACKET DAMAGED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT. THE CV BOOT WAS TORN DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT AS WELL. UPDATED 10/27/08. *JB
BOUGHT IT NEW, REPLACED BATTERY IN 6 MONTHS, HAVE REPLACED HEADLIGHTS AND BACK LIGHTS TWICE, THE TRUCK SHIMMIES WHILE BRAKING, ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON, ENGINE HEATS UP WHILE IDLING, SHALL I CONTINUE? I HAVE PURCHASED GMC PRIOR TO THIS CHEVROLET. I DO LIKE THE PRODUCT BUT GMC HAS INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. CHEVROLET WILL NOT PROVIDE YOU WITH A LOANER AND CAN NEVER DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I HOPE THE TRUCK LASTS UNTIL MY LAST PAYMENT. *TR
NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION - PASSENGER SIDE EXHAUST FLANGE DON'T/GASKET- DO TO A FLAW IN THE DESIGN, THE FLANGE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE TIGHTENED ENOUGH TO MAINTAIN GASKET SEAL THUS ALLOWING CARBON MONOXIDE/EXHAUST INTO THE VEHICLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO K2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL. HE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP BY APPLYING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO DEFECTIVE WELDING OF THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE SHOCK ABSORBER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THEY PARTIALLY REPAIRED THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SECOND DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS PARTIALLY WELDED AND THE FAILURE COULD RECUR AT ANY MOMENT. THEY FURTHER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN ON ROUGH TERRAIN; HOWEVER, IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER TOOK A REPORT, BUT WILL NOT AUTHORIZE THE DEALER TO COMPLETE THE WELDING REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,639.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT WAS EXPERIENCING A FAILURE WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATING SYSTEM IN HER VEHICLE. NEITHER WERE WORKING PROPERLY AND NO AIR WOULD GO THROUGH THE VENTS. THE CONTACT ALSO SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING IN HER VEHICLE AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE RESISTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE THE NEW RESISTER WAS BEING INSTALLED, THE MECHANIC ALSO DISCOVERED THAT A CONNECTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT HAD MELTED. BOTH THE RESISTER AND THE CONNECTOR FROM THE ELECTRICAL AIR CONDITIONING UNIT IN HER VEHICLE WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT A TWO YEAR OLD VEHICLE SHOULD NOT EXPERIENCE THOSE DEFECTS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,612. UPDATED 10/07/08. *LJ THE TRANSMISSION LINE HAD A SLIGHT LEAK. UPDATED 10/08/08. *JB
THE AC HAS NEVER WORKED . TOOK IT TO COUTESY CHEVY 3TIMES. STILL DOSE NOT WORK. HAD TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARINGS. TOOK IT THERE 2 TIMES 4 THAT. HAD 2 REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION ONCE . AND NOW ITS ACTING UP 10,000 MILES LATER. THIS IS A 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO THAT I PAID 25,000 $ FOR ONLY 2 YEARS AGO. *TR
VALVE STEM (INFLATION VALVE) RUPTURED AND CAUSED TIRE TO DEFLATE. THIS WAS THE SECOND VALVE STEM TO RUPTURE ON THIS TRUCK. THE VALVE STEM IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. THE VALVE STEM FROM THE FIRST INCIDENT IS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE GAS LINE RUSTED AND CLOGGED ALL OF THE INJECTORS WITH RUST. THE DEALER REPLACED THE GAS LINE AND CLEANED THE INJECTORS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 24,147. UPDATED 10/14/08 *BF UPDATED 10/24/08. *JB
THE AIR BAG LIGHT HAS BEEN CONSTANTLY ON AND AND I DO NOT KNOW IF THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG WILL DEPLOY IN A CRASH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND TOWING A TRAILER, THE LIMP MODE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE DECELERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,950 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 205,000.
BRAKE PADS HAVE CUT INTO ROTOR ON BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT DISC. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER AND TOOK THEM OFF AND RESURFACED THE ROTOR AND PADS. WOULD NOT REPLACE! AFTER DRIVING HOME ABOUT 30 MILES ROTORS WERE ALREADY STARTING TO GROOVE AGAIN! *TR
DRIVER'S ELECTRIC HEATER COMES BY IT'S SELF GETS REAL HOT/ HAVE TO JUST KEEP PUSHING THE ON AND OFF SWITCH SEVERAL X THEN IT RUNS OFF HIT BUMP AND IT STARTS AGAIN HAD THREE DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAS THERE BACK WAS RED FROM THE HEAT. HAD AT DEALER X2 OR MORE AND AL L THE SAY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG ALSO THE EASY OUT ON THE SEAT DOESN'T WORK WHEN YOU REMOVE THE KEY THE CLUSTER CHANGE WILL CHANGE BY IT SELF( FUEL USED/ OIL LIFE / FUEL ECON ECT YES EVEN GENERAL MOTORS ARE TELLING SORRY!! BUT WHO LIKES TO DRIVE WITH THE HEATED SEAT ON @ 90 DEGREES WEATHER. *TR
THE TRANNY IN MY 06 SILVERADO QUIT SHIFTING FROM 2ND TO 3RD GEAR. MY TRUCK HAD 45,700 MILES, JUST OUT OF THE WARRANTY BY 9,700. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. NOT EVEN A MESSAGE FROM THE DASH COMPUTER OR A TRANSMISSION LIGHT. DEALERSHIP SAID TRANNY WASN'T PUTTING ENOUGH PRESSURE IN THE SHIFT PLATES AND IT SMOKED A COUPLE OF THEM. DEALERSHIP ALSO SAID THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSES THE PROBLEMS IT JUST HAPPENS. LUCKILY FOR ME DEALERSHIP CALLED A REP AND I ONLY HAD TO PAY A $500 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE BECAUSE MY PICKUP WAS SO WELL CARED FOR AND THERE WAS NO REASON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. SO IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU MAKE SURE YOU CHECK INTO THEM OR YOURSELF CALLING A REP. $500 IS CHEAPER THAN A REBUILD OR NEW TRANNY. *TR
LOUD SQUEAL NOISE IN THE TRANSMISSION OF 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO WHEN IT RUNS IN LOW GEAR AND WHEN IT IS IN DRIVE AND SHIFTS FROM LOW TO HIGH GEAR. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES AND WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A NORMAL NOISE FOR THE 4L80E TRANSMISSION. WE TOOK IT TO ANOTHER GM DEALER WHO SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM. WE CALLED GM AND THEY HAD US TAKE THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER WE BOUGHT IT FROM. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A NORMAL NOISE AFTER THE MECHANIC DROVE IT. WHEN IT WAS USED TO PULL A TRAILER LOADED WITH HAY, THE NOISE WAS EVEN GREATER. I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE WILL BE AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS TRUCK. *TR
WIRING TO THE BLOWER MOTOR IS GETTING TO HOT AND HAS MELTED THE PLUG CONNECTOR. BLOWER WILL WORK OFF AND ON. SEEN THIS COMPLAINT IN MANY FORUMS. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IT RESULTS IN A FIRE. *TR
OUR 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO WAS MAKING A SLIGHT HUMMING NOISE. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT HE WOULD NEED TO CHANGE HIS BRAKE PAD. THE HUM WAS MORE ON TURNS AND WENT BRAKING. THEN ON JUNE THE 13, 2006 , WHILE DRIVING, THE WHOLE HUB/BEARING EVERYTHING BROKE OFF THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE. WE HAD IT TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. AFTER INSPECTING THE TRUCK. THEY STATED THE WE IMPROPERLY FAIL TO MAINTAIN ARE VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN THE WHOLE DRUM /HUB/BEARING BRAKE OFF , EXCEPT IN TRUCKS THAT WERE MADE TO GO OFF ROAD ALOT. WE HAVE NEVER TOWED, WENT OFF ROAD OR HAULED ANYTHING WITH THIS TRUCK. THE MILES ARE HIGHWAY MILES. I ASKED HOW DO MAINTAIN A PIECE OF STEEL. HE STATED,"WE SHOULD OF HAD THE BEARING CHECK". THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE DRUM , ROTOR, HUB, BEARINGS HOSES, EVERYTHING. THE TOTAL COST $1,412.00. *TR
REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY FELL OUT. AFTER TALKING WITH GM AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THEY HAVE SAID THAT THEY HAVE VEHICLES ON THE LOT THAT THIS INCIDENT IS OCCURRING TO AND SEVERAL THAT HAVE BEEN PURCHASED THAT THEY ARE REPLACING. THEY WILL NOT REPLACE MINE BECAUSE OF THE MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE. THE MAIN CONCERN IS THAT IF YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE ASSEMBLY FALLS OUT AND YOU USE YOUR TURN SIGNAL, THE PERSON BEHIND YOU WOULDN'T SEE IT AND COULD CAUSE A CRASH POSSIBLY A FATAL ONE. I HAVE NOT HEARD OF ANY AT THIS TIME, BUT I DO BELIEVE IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO BY THE SAFETY COMMISSION. I WOULD HATE FOR GM TO BE SUED FOR A FAULT IN THEIR PRODUCT DUE TO A FATAL CRASH OR ONE THAT INVOLVED A SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
STEERING COLUMN KNOCK IN MY CHEVROLET 2500 HD SILVERADO. PROBLEM OCCURRED SOMETIME AROUND 38K MILES. WAS TOLD BY DEALER IT WAS A BROKEN STEERING ARM. NOW AT 65K MILES AND HAVING THE SAME KNOCKING SOUND IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *TR
MY HEATER WAS GOING ON AND OFF AND NOW IT JUST DOESN'T WORK. MY BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK ALL THE TIME AND MY DASH BOARD LIGHTS WORK ABOUT 75 PERCENT OF THE TIME. I HAVE NOT WENT AND HAD ANY REPAIRS DONE YET BECAUSE THIS IS SOMETHING THAT CHEVY SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR NOT ME AND I WILL NOT PAY FOR IT AND NOW ITS DOCUMENTED THAT I HAVE A COMPLAINT AND MY LAWYER WILL KNOW THIS IS DOCUMENTED SO IF SOMETHING HAPPENS YOU WILL BE SUED. CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER SAYS IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. IT IS IN THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT AND THERE IS NO RELIABLE FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. IF YOU REPLACE THE PART THE PROBLEM RETURNS IN A SHORT TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE GREW LOUDER WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL BEARING, WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE. HOWEVER, THE PASSENGER SIDE BARON WAS REPLACED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,700.
2006 SILVERALDO AFTER 36000 MILES BOTH FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED THEN AT 105000 LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING FAILED AGAIN I DRIVE MAINLY ON HIWAYS VERY LITTLE SIDE ROADS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT ACCIDENTALLY REALIZED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN THE OFF POSITION, HE IS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND/OR REVERSE. THE DEALER STATED INFORMED HIM THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A DIAGNOSTIC SINCE HIS VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON APRIL 30, 2008. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,190.
1. INVOLVED IN TWO VEHICLE MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION. MY VEHICLE WAS T-BONED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, CAUSING THE BUMPER TO BE PUSHED IN AT LEAST 3-6 INCHES. 2. I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION, WHILE BOTH VEHICLES OF SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 20 MILES PER HOUR, SHOULD HAVE CAUSED MY AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. 3. UNKNOWN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS ACTIVATED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES TO A HIGH SPEED. IN ADDITION, THE RPM'S INCREASE AND THE CONTACT LOSES CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED IN APRIL OF 2008. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
PARKING BRAKE FAILED TO HOLD TRUCK STATIONARY DURING INSPECTION. WE TRIED TO ADJUST PEDAL FOLLOWING THE GM SERVICE MANUAL AND BRAKE STILL WOULD NOT HOLD. REMOVED REAR BRAKE ROTORS AND FOUND LINING ON SHOES WORN OFF. REPLACED SHOES, HARDWARE, AND ROTOR. CHECKED CABLES AND ACTUATORS FOR SHOES. ASSEMBLED, ADJUSTED AND BURNISHED SHOES AS PER SERVICE MANUAL, BRAKE STILL WOULD NOT HOLD TRUCK ON GRADE INSPECTION WAS CONDUCTED ON. ADJUSTED SHOES UNTIL THEY WERE DRAGGING ON DRUMS AND COULD FINALLY GET BRAKES TO HOLD TRUCK. THE DRAGGING SHOES WILL BE WORN OFF IN A MATTER OF DAYS AND THE BRAKE WILL NOT WORK. OUR COMPANY HAS SEVEN TRUCKS WITH THIS SAME STYLE PARKING BRAKE AND THEY WILL NOT HOLD EVEN AN EMPTY TRUCK DAYS AFTER LEAVING OUR SHOP. I KNOW OF THE RECALL FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRUCKS AND IT SHOULD BE CARRIED OVER TO ALL SILVERADO TRUCKS. *TR
IN MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THE SPEEDOMETER TURNS OFF AND ON AND GETS STUCK. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THERE ARE 4 OTHER VEHICLES IN OUR FAMILY THAT DO THE SAME THING. YOU WILL JUST BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND IT EITHER TURNS COMPLETELY OFF OR IT GOES UP TO 120MPH OR GETS STUCK WERE YOU WERE IN SPEED. WE HAVE RECEIVED TWO TICKETS BECAUSE OF THIS I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT? IT IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFAULT IF IT IS HAPPENING IN ALL OF OUR VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED FOR A FEW SECONDS. ADDITIONALLY, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE VIBRATED SEVERELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE INTERMEDIATE DRIVE SHAFT ON THREE VISITS. THE BRAKE LINES, TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES AND INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WERE COVERED WITH RUST AND WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,800.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE HUB BEARINGS WERE GRINDING TOGETHER SO BADLY THAT HE COULD NOT DRIVE HIS VEHICLE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE WHEEL WOULD DETACH FROM THE VEHICLE IF NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE MECHANIC ALSO DEMONSTRATED HOW THE WHEEL WAS WOBBLING WHEN HE PUT THE VEHICLE ON THE LIFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ONCE BEFORE WHEN IT WAS MAKING A LOUD NOISE AND THEY CHANGED THE TIRES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO PURCHASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HE REFUSED SINCE THE VEHICLE HAD LOW MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,586.
AIR CONDITIONING FAN CONTROL MELTED, WHILE I WAS DRIVING THERE WAS A STRONG ELECTRICAL FIRE ODOR. I TURNED OFF MY FAN AND WHEN I RETURNED HOME I FOUND THAT THE FAN RESISTOR GM PART# 89019088 AND THE CONNECTOR GM PART# 15862656 HAD MELTED. BARE WIRES WERE VISIBLE AND THE PINS IN THE CONNECTOR WERE TOUCHING. INITIALLY BEFORE THIS OCCURRENCE THE FAN HAD STOPPED WORKING AT THE HIGHEST SPEED THEN THE NEXT LOWEST SPEED AND FINALLY STARTED TO BURN UP. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE FOR SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE ODOR OF BURNING OF AN ELECTRICAL NATURE. I DID REPLACE THE RESISTOR AT A COST OF $55.00 AND NOW NEED TO GET THE CONNECTOR WHICH IS AT A RIDICULOUS COST OF $95.00. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I WOULD THINK GM KNOWS ABOUT THIS SINCE THEY ARE PROBABLY SELLING QUITE A FEW OF THESE ITEMS. ONE OF THE PARTS COUNTER PERSON'S I SPOKE WITH KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES WERE LEAKING AND I'M CONCERNED ABOUT IT DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID BEING A COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HOSES WERE LEAKING. THE FLUID AND ONE OF THE HOSES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO LEAK AND THE DEALER WAS SCHEDULED TO REPLACE ALL THREE HOSES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,578. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,790.

I HAVE A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT HAS PRESENTED A PROBLEM IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY OF THE VEHICLE. I NOTICED A MOANING NOISE THAT WAS PRESENT WHILE TURNING TO THE RIGHT. I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE DEALER IN MY AREA AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY PROBLEM WAS MY STEERING BOX WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. I WENT AHEAD WITH THE SUGGESTED REPAIR. THIS HOWEVER DID NOT FIX MY PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK, THEY EXAMINED IT AND TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AS IT WAS LEAKING AND THAT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. I DID AS SUGGESTED BUT STILL NOT FIXED. MIND YOU THIS WAS AT 50,000 MILES. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK, EXAMINED IT AGAIN, AND THIS TIME WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH TIE ROD ENDS AND THE IDLER ARM TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. SO I DID AS SUGGESTED. STILL NOT FIXED. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN, THEY EXAMINED IT, AND BY THIS TIME THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE, LOUDER NOISE ETC. THEY SAID, WELL THE POWER STEERING CONTROL VALVE NEEDED REPLACEMENT, I AGREED, THEY SAID THIS WOULD DO IT. THE DEALER FIXED HALF OF IT. NOW I HAVE A HIGH PITCHED NOISE UNDER THE HOOD AND THE REMEDY FOR THAT IS TO REPLACE THE STEERING BOX THAT I REPLACED 30,000 MILES PRIOR. I NEEDED TO HAND OVER MORE MONEY AND IN TWO AND A HALF YEARS I GO THROUGH TWO STEERING BOXES, SO I CALLED CHEVY AND ASKED THEM IF MAYBE THEY WOULD HELP WITH THE BILL, THEY AGREED TO PAY A PORTION, BUT THAT'S NOT REALLY GOOD ENOUGH IN MY BOOK. IF THEY CANT STAND BEHIND A STEERING BOX FOR 30,000 MILES WHAT'S NEXT. THE DEALER HAS ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS DOES EFFECT MY BRAKING AS WELL AS THE TRUCK IDLING IRREGULARLY. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH CHEVROLET AND GM. WHEN I WANTED TO TAKE THIS TO THE NEXT STEP WITH THE COMPANY, THEY TOLD ME I SHOULD NOT SPOIL A GOOD DEAL THAT THEY ARE OFFERING, AND IF I DO TAKE IT HIGHER I WAS ADVISED THEY MIGHT NOT BE SO KIND TO ME. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,600 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,500.

FAILURE OF THIS STEERING COULD QUITE EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT DUE TO BEING UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, ONE ACTION IS TO STOP BUT TO GET OUT OF ANOTHER VEHICLES PATH WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. 3. SO FAR THE DEALERSHIP HAS CHECKED FOR LEAKS, TOPPED UP POWER STEERING FLUID. CHECKED FRONT END ALIGNMENT SPECS. FRONT Z HEIGHT WAS OUT OF GM SPECS, SO ADJUSTED BACK INTO SPECS. THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 23,800. ALSO, THE STEERING GEAR BOX HAS A DEFECTED BEARING IN IT WHICH CAUSES IS IT TO CATCH WHEN MOVING THE VEHICLE. THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COMPANY AND ATASCADERO FORD OUTLET FILED CHAPTER 11 BANKRUPTCY. I MANAGE A FLEET OF VEHICLES FOR AN ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. SO FAR THREE 2006 CHEVY TRUCKS HAVE HAD THE FAN CONTROL MODULE, LOCATED UNDER THE DASHBOARD IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, FAIL. UPON TRACING THE PROBLEM IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT IN EACH CASE THE MODULE HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE, AND EVEN BURNED SOME OF THE WIRE IN THE WIRE HARNESS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR TO REPAIR THESE TRUCKS. I HAVE A 2006 3/4 TON PICK UP WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL AND ALISON TRANSMISSION. IN NOVEMBER OF 2006 AT ABOUT 20K MILES, A LOW PRESSURE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE (PART NUMBER 219989580) DEVELOPED A MAJOR LEAK AND REQUIRED REPAIR. WITHIN WEEKS, THE REPLACED LINE FAILED AND THE DEALER INFORMED US THAT MANY TRUCKS OF THE SAME DESIGN WERE FAILING FOR THE SAME PART. IT TOOK WEEKS TO GET A REPLACEMENT PART FOR GM. FEED BACK FROM OTHER GM DEALERS INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WIDE SPREAD. WHEN A REPLACEMENT PART WAS FINALLY PROVIDED, WE WERE INFORMED BY GM WESTERN REGION SERVICE THAT A DESIGN "FIX" HAD BEEN IMPLEMENTED AND THAT THE TRUCK WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. THREE WEEKS AGO, (45,000 MILES) MY TRUCK STARTED LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID AGAIN. AN INSPECTION BY THE DEALER REVEALED THAT NOT ONLY THE SAME LINE WAS LEAKING AGAIN BUT THAT TWO OTHER LINES OF THE SAME DESIGN WERE ALSO LEAKING. THIS DEALER, E&L MOTORS IN KEMMERER HAD ALREADY SEEN MORE THAN A DOZEN TRUCKS IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND WAS FRUSTRATED BECAUSE REPLACEMENT LINES FROM GM WOULD START LEAKING WITHIN DAYS OF INSTALLATION. WE WERE TOLD BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THERE WAS A RUMOR THAT GM WOULD BE DOING A RECALL ON THIS PART. IN THE MEAN TIME, I AM NOT GETTING ANY DIRECT INFORMATION AND THE CORRECTIVE ACTION GM IS TELLING IT'S DEALERS IS TO HAVE THE OWNER CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID FREQUENTLY, A SPECIAL FLUID WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE THROUGH ANYONE EXCEPT AN AUTHORIZED GM DEALER. RECENT CONTACTS WITH OTHER GM DEALERS HAVE EXPOSED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH "DOZENS" OF TRUCKS IN OUR AREA WHICH ARE ALSO WAITING FOR A RELIABLE REPLACEMENT PART. I USE THIS TRUCK FOR WORK.
