TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE FRONT END BECAME LOOSE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO MOVE IN ANOTHER LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE SOME WHERE ELSE TO GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONSTANT AND BECAME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IN MARCH 2009 THE DEALER REPLACED THE STEERING GEAR. IN DECEMBER 2009 THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, THE BEARINGS, BUSHING AND THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT. THE DEALER ALSO REPAIRED A LEAKY SEAL ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING GEAR WHICH INCLUDED A GEAR KIT IN SEPTEMBER 2010. THE CONTACT WAS NOT EXPERIENCING A FAILURE AT THIS TIME BUT STATED THAT SHE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 875 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,200.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MADE A RATTLING NOISE AND SHOOK WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS ON BUMPY ROAD CONDITIONS. ALSO, THE DRIVER'S SEAT MADE A SQUEAKING NOISE. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE PROBLEM.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. THE CONTACT HEARD A PIERCING NOISE WHENEVER THE FAN WAS ACTIVATED FOR EITHER THE HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONER. THE NOISE LASTS THE ENTIRE TIME THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN. THE FAILURE WAS FIRST NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH. THE CONTACT HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THIS FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,635 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,200. UPDATED 12-12-07. *KB UPDATED
HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT YET.
I HAVE A BRAND NEW 2006 CHEVY SILVERADO PICKUP AND IT CAME WITH P265/70R/17 GOODYEAR WRANGLER ST TIRES. AT 2700 MILES THE RIGHT REAR TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE TRAVELING ON A PAVED ROAD AND AT 5500 MILES THE LEFT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT WHILE TRAVELING ON A GRAVELED ROAD. BOTH TIRES HAD CUTS IN THE CENTER OF THE TIRES AND WERE VERY SIMILAR. I COMPLAINED TO GOODYEAR AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS UNSAFE TIRE. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE CONSISTENTLY HAS PROBLEMS WITH A VIBRATION THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE FOR THE VIBRATION AND THEREFORE COULD NOT SERVICE THE VEHICLE. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE VENT WHEN THE HEATER WAS ACTIVATED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THEY REPLACED THE VENT COVER. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TAPING OR MOLDING AROUND THE HEATER CORE MAY HAVE CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE DEALER SPRAYED SILICONE ON THE DASHBOARD; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. APPROXIMATELY ELEVEN MONTHS LATER, THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE. AS OF NOVEMBER 27, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,635.
MY 1500HD SUPER CREW CAB HAS HAD A HARMONIC RUMBLE SINCE THE SECOND WEEK OF OWNERSHIP. IT VARIES SOME WITH SPEED AND LOAD BUT CAN BE FELT THROUGH THE FLOOR INTO YOUR FEET AND BE HEARD EASILY AT ALL TIMES. IT GETS PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER UNTIL IT IS SERVICED. THE DEALER HAS WORKED ON THE PROBLEM 4 TIMES IN 5 MONTHS AND IT STILL HAS THE PROBLEM. IT WILL GO BACK FOR A 5TH VISIT THIS WEEK. *NM
WE WERE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH AND HAD A REAR TIRE BLOWOUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON OTHER THAN A POSSIBLE TIRE DEFECT. WE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. WE QUICKLY SLOWED AND GOT OFF THE ROAD. THE TIRE SIDE WALL BLEW OUT. THE TIRES ARE NEW AND HAD LESS THAN 3000 MILES ON THEM. *JB
I BOUGHT A 2006 SILVERADO EXT CAB LT3 AT THE END OF FEBRUARY 2006. IN MARCH HEADLINER CAME DOWN. REPLACED TWO WEEKS LATER. SIX WEEKS LATER HEADLINER CAME DOWN AGAIN THE SECOND TIME. REPLACED HEADLINER ONE WEEK LATER. TWO DAYS AFTER REPLACING HEADLINER, IT CAME DOWN THE THIRD TIME. I CONTACTED AREA REP TO HAVE HIM RESEARCH THE HEADLINER ISSUE (WHICH I ALREADY WENT TO TWO OTHER DEALERSHIPS AND THEY ARE SELLING THESE TRUCKS WITH THE DEFECTED HEADLINERS AND KNOWINGLY SELLING THEM). I WAITED A FULL MONTH THEN WENT FOR ANOTHER REPLACEMENT WHICH TOOK TWO WEEKS TO COME IN. ONE WEEK LATER HEADLINER COMING DOWN AGAIN THE 4TH TIME. AREA REP SAID HE PUT IN A TSB TO SHOW IT IS A DEFECT THAT THE HEADLINERS ARE CUT TOO SHORT. I CHECKED ON NHTSA AND NO TSB'S ARE LISTED ABOUT A SILVERADO HEADLINER. PEOPLE HAVEN'T NOTICED THIS BECAUSE IT ISN'T OBVIOUS. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT THE TOP OF YOUR OPEN DOORS WHERE THE HEADLINER MEETS THE RUBBER GASKET AND YOU WILL SEE THE CUT OF THE FABRIC OF THE HEADLINE AND THE MOLDED HEADLINER PIECE WITH IT. I'VE CALLED AREA REP AND IT'S BEEN 3 DAYS AND NO RETURN CALL. I WAS TOLD IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACTORY SUNROOF EITHER. IF THE FACTORY KNOWS THE HEADLINER'S ARE DEFECTIVE WHY DO THEY KEEP SENDING THE ONES THAT ARE DEFECTIVE INSTEAD OF WAITING TILL THE RIGHT ONES COME OUT? *JB
SAFETY RECALL NOTICE CONCERNING THE CHEVROLET HD2500 SILVERADO LOADING OF PASSENGER AND BED WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. A NOTICE AND DOOR JAM STICKER WAS SUPPLIED BY GM TO CORRECT THE CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLE BY APPROXIMATELY 300 POUNDS DUE TO TIRE SELECTION AND/OR RIMS. I AM NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RECALL AND WISH TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE RECALL. ON THE LETTERHEAD, IT IS NOTED THAT THIS IS A "SAFETY RECALL NOTICE" AS OPPOSED TO A MIS-LABELING OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE FACTORY. VIN NUMBER OF THE 2006 SILVERADO IS [XXX]. I BELIEVE THAT GM SHOULD STEP UP AND OFFER THE CUSTOMER AN EXPLANATION FOR THE RECALL AND INSTEAD OF REDUCING THE WEIGHT CAPACITY OF THE VEHICLE IN LIEU OF ACTUALLY FIXING THE PROBLEM, EITHER BY REPLACING THE TIRES AND/OR RIMS. I HAVE CONTACTED GM AND THE REPRESENTATIVE WOULD NOT SHARE ANYMORE INFORMATION THAT WHAT WAS STATED IN THE RECALL NOTICE. HE RECORDED THE PHONE CALL AND SAID IT WILL BE SENT TO THE "DISSATISFIED" CUSTOMER INTERNALLY WITH GM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AND REPAIRED THE STEERING COLUMN BUT THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED SINCE THE REPAIR DIDN'T CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS CONTINUED TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 89397.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD WHISTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE HEATER CORE GASKET. ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES, BUT THERE WERE NO RESOLUTIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. USING APPROPRIATE FUEL PER DURAMAX DIESEL GUIDE, FUEL FILTER FAILED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT AT MY COST. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DID NOT WORK AT ALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A GM DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WAS UNDETERMINED.
DT:THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 TO 75 MPH THE REAR WINDOW WAS DOWN AND THERE WAS A ROARING NOISE. THIS NOISE WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO HURT THE CONSUMER EARS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED ,AND THEY STATED THIS WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. WHEN BACKING ON A COLD MORNING I LAST POWER ASSISTED BRAKES AND STEERING. THERE WAS A SMALL LOSSS OF POWER STEERING FLUID. *NM
ON AUGUST 13TH, 2008 I WENT TO DARRYL BURKE CHEVY TO CONSIDER BUYING A NEW TRUCK AND TRADING MY 2006. DURING THE TRADE IN APPRAISAL, THE SALES MANAGER ASK IF THE VEHICLE HAD EVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT? I INFORMED THAT NO IT HAD NOT. HE SAID THE TIRE, SAFETY, AND PARTS LABEL VIN DID NOT MATCH THE VIN IN THE WINDSHIELD. I LOOKED AND WITNESSED THE SAME INFORMATION. THE SALES MANAGER SAID THAT THIS WOULD DRASTICALLY EFFECT THE TRADE IN VALUE OF MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT APPEARS THAT REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN USED. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THIS MUST HAVE OCCURRED IN THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS BECAUSE THERE ARE 2 OTHER VEHICLES WHICH WERE SHIPPED TO OTHER STATES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY HAVE THE LABELS ON THEM THAT SHOULD BE ON MY VEHICLE. THE NATIONAL INSURANCE CRIME BUREAU HAS EXAMINED THE OTHER VEHICLES AND DETERMINED THAT THE MANUFACTURER CAUSED THIS MISHAP. I NEED TO KNOW IF NHTSA CAN HELP WITH THIS ISSUE BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY MOST ANY DEALER IS GOING TO RECOGNIZE THE DISCREPANCY AND MAY RESULT IN A DEPRECIATION IN THE VALUE OF MY VEHICLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25-30 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHIMMY AND A CLUNKING NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY LUBRICATED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON ELEVEN SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, IDLER ARM, BODY MOUNT, AND LOWER SHAFT BEARINGS WERE ALL REPLACED. RECENTLY, THE STEERING SHAFT LOWER BEARING, STEERING ARM KIT, LOWER RE-SEAL DIFFERENTIAL, LOWER ARM, AND IDLER ARM PITMAN ARM WERE ALL REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HUB WAS FAILING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNABLE TO BE ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
VEHICLE IS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO EXTENDED CAB PICKUP. IT HAS BEAM SHAKE (GM TERM) AS OUTLINED IN GM PIT#3009C (06/28/06). EXCESSIVE SHAKING UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS MAKES THE VEHICLE NOT DRIVABLE AND HAS CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO SHOCKS AND SHEARING (REPLACED BE GM). GM CURRENTLY HAS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND HAS REFUSED TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE AT A FAIR PRICE. I WILL NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THAT I BELIEVE IT IS UNSAFE. IT CURRENTLY IS SITTING AT THE DEALERS LOT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT WITH HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHICH ALSO CAUSED HIM TO PROCEED THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR A HALF HOUR AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS LOCATED THE FAILURE AS THE ABS BRAKE PUMP MOTOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR $600. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 19,000. UPDATED 03/04/10. *LJ
2006 CHEVY SILVERADO WITH FAULTY BRAKE LIGHTS. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE FAILED FOUR TIMES IN TEN MONTHS. THIS FAILURE ALMOST GOT THE CONSUMER IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *KB THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THE BULBS WERE NOT BURNING OUT, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO ARCING CAUSED BY POORLY DESIGNED SOCKET CONTACTS. THE CONSUMER STATED GM NEEDS TO REDESIGN THE SOCKET TO PROVIDE LINE CONTACT AT THE SOCKET/BULB ELECTRICAL INTERFACE. THE PRESENT DESIGN PROVIDES CONTACT ONLY. *JB
