The power steering light comes off and on and I lost power steering here and there.
The 8-speed transmission has been a problem from day 1 of owning this truck. It has a bad vibration, slips into gear and hard shifts. I have maintained this truck to the fullest and have done all service to the fluids as requested by the manufacturer. I have never pulled a trailer, and I want The NTHSA to make all Chevrolet products that have this 8-speed transmission recalled. GM should make this right. These vehicles aren't cheap.
The engine oil cooler lines blew/malfunctioned. Was stuck on the side of the road in 100 degree weather had to wait 2 hours for a tow truck. Chevy was towed to a Chevy dealership and repaired. (Removed and replaced engine oil cooler lines as per manufactures specs. Completed oil and oil filter replacement. Added needed fluids to reservoirs.). Message alert about 15 seconds after. Light stated shut off engine low oil.
IT'S BEEN 3 TIMES I HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THE BRAKES AND THEY CHARGED ME FOR THE DIAGNOSIS THAT RETURNED p25a2 AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR FIXING SOMETHING THAT WENT WRONG SINCE MANUFACTURING MY TRUCK ONLY HAS 6,000 MILES IT SKIDS A LOUD SOUND IS HEARD DOWN AND WHEN I BRAKE FOR A LITTLE MORE AND I CRASH 3 TIMES
The rear view camera mounted in the tailgate of my truck displays a distorted and fuzzy display on the video display, when in reverse gear. When I select reverse gear and it's at night, the light at the top center of the tailgate, intended to illuminate the tow hitch, is so bright that it bleaches any view from the screen. I'd suggest the light be on a separate switch to be used only for actually hitching to a trailer. The display shows the guiding marks where the truck will go and it is bleached from view also. This is a hazard because the view is so blurry, nothing of value is displayed. I mentioned this to the dealer's service manager, where I purchased this truck, used, and he said that the camera would have to be replace or at least removed from the tailgate and cleaned and resealed. I noticedd this imperfection upon delivery as a used truck and since it's out of the warranty period i will wait to have it repaired. Thank you..
The brake system went out last month on my vehicle. While driving down a road approximately 35 mph I went to stop the vehicle and realized my brakes went out. I had to continuously pump the brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of me. When I hit the brakes several codes came up on my dashboard. Then the brakes began working again but the lights on the dashboard stayed on so I went to a parts house and they checked the codes. There was a code for the brake sensor. They cleared the codes at the parts house I did not order the sensor because the warning lights went off and I had no more problems with the brakes. Sunday, July 7th, I started the truck in a parking lot. As I was backing out of the parking spot the power steering went out and I almost hit the car parked next to me. Again the dashboard lit up with codes. I had no choice but to drive the truck to my house with no power steering. It was difficult to drive the truck back home and then to the Chevrolet dealership the next morning. I presently have the truck at the Auto nation Chevrolet. When I brought the truck in to the service department they hooked up the scanner to download the codes on the vehicle. Vehicle had several codes for the brake system, Telematics communication, engine control module, power steering control module and Body control module. The service Manager stated that they would need to charge me $200 to diagnosis the problem. They would need to keep the truck there 3-5 days. I am waiting on their diagnosis to determine the problem but I believe there is a safety issue involved with this vehicle and the repairs should be addressed by the manufacturer before someone gets hurt.
Complete loss of power assist steering with multiple safety codes causing loss of vehicle control. Was able to pull over in parking lot to get vehicle off the road. Near impossible to steer when incident happened. Frightening experience. As other complaints have noted frame to body ground strap located behind passenger front tire severely corroded and causing loss of ground contact. No service center open so had to be towed home. Vehicle only has 27,000mi. This has been reported frequently and should be a safety recall as very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving and towing a small trailer, there was white smoke coming from underneath the vehicle, near the engine compartment and from the exhaust system. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to a local dealer where it was confirmed the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
8L90 Transmission failure at 60k Miles.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while her husband was making a right turn from a complete stop at approximately 10 MPH, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The message "Trailer Brake" and another message indicating a power steering failure were displayed. The contact stated that her husband pulled to the side of the road, turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact's husband was able to drive to the residence by using physical strength to maneuver the steering wheel. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure could be related to a corroded ground strap. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.
The electrical system: truck will make clicking noises after I turn it off and the keys are out of ignition. Radio won’t go off when it’s supposed to. I have fan on in my truck for the heat/ac and it blows out of the wrong vent or if I have dial on high there is nothing coming out. When I’m walking away from the truck it will start making noises. Head lights are dim inside lights are dim. I can smell gas in my truck. Transmission jerks no power at all driving up a hill. I had a 2006 Chevy Silverado. I fell in love with it the first time I seen it. She had a v8 vortex motor in it. I don’t know why a person would put come up with a v6 to pull an 8000 lb truck!!! It takes forever to speed up! I was told to save gas, I seriously don’t think so!!! I put transmissions and engines together for 15 years at Toyota. I have a lot of respect for the Japanese people because they care about what they build. Chevy needs to hire some people from Toyota to help straighten them out. Can’t really give dates to many!
1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transmission system appears to have malfunctioned, specifically causing hard, sudden jerks when shifting and sluggish acceleration. While the issue is ongoing, the dealer has not confirmed any problem. The dealer has performed transmission flushes twice under 60k miles and recommended a third flush a few months back when I took it in for the jerking issues. The transmission is available for inspection upon request. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The hard, sudden jerks when shifting can feel as if the vehicle has been rear-ended, potentially causing a loss of control or distraction while driving, posing a risk to both the driver and others on the road. Sluggish acceleration could also impair the vehicle’s response in critical driving situations, such as merging or avoiding obstacles. 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, the problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer. The dealer claims the behavior is considered “normal operation,” despite the symptoms being severe enough to concern the owner. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealer, who did not find any issues with the transmission or other components. It has not been inspected by any other parties like the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no specific warning lamps or messages associated with the issue. The symptoms of hard jerks when shifting and sluggish acceleration appeared over time but have not been linked to any warning signals from the vehicle’s systems.
2019 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500 D purchased in September 2019 with less than 100K miles dropped off at the Chevrolet deal on last Tuesday 6/18 report need a new engine which will be costing me more than the price of the vehicle.

I have 2019 chevy silverado 1500 that only has 38000 miles and bought it at 34000 miles. I drive it 20 miles if that to work and back only and use my wifes cars another chevy on weekends family car. One morning i turned it on and it stated no oil pressure to turn car off. I did as it stated lifted the hood and can tell the oil cooler line/hose came off due to the latch bracket not holding. Thank God i wasnt on the highway in dfw traffic could have caused an accident. Low and behold many hundreds of complaints with the same vehicle and issue has been filed with Gm motors. While in alaska and canada the exact same issue is recalled but not the united states of America! Please help as i cannot replace an engine in this time today with a family over an issue many hundreds of chevy owners are having. Its an obvious recall and part thats not up to the law or standards.
Bearing and Engine failure, Had to pay out of pocket for a new engine at 78,000 miles. The problem was diagnosed by my local dealer Denoyer Chevrolet in holland Mi. There was no warning lamps, messages, nor symptoms. Dealer had all the info on date, inspection and repair. Engine failures like this are very dangerous as they can cause catastrophic injury or damage. General Motors should be held accountable and made to pay back customers for there damaged products.
Transmission shifts really hard and down shift hard. Have been the to dearships 3 times being told that’s just how the transmission is even them acknowledging. It’s a problem.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the message "Brake Failure" was displayed. The traction control, ABS, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while approaching a red traffic light and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal was stiff and failed to respond as needed. The contact drove over the curb and onto the median, where the vehicle stopped. The contact was able to drive to the residence at slow speeds, and the contact turned off and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, 10 minutes later, the message was no longer displayed, and the warning lights were no longer illuminated. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V055000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) because the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
I had a problem with the truck start to make noises and shaking complete then i put on a flat bed and take to the dealership to make a diagnosis and the dealership told me that is complete failure of the engine and that i have to replace so they order a new engine and they installed so they charge me around 11000 dollars
transmission shudder and shakes at high speed and low speeds
The oil cooler lines on my 2019 Silverado 1500 disconnected at the crimp while I was driving. The vehicle has only a bit more than 30,000 miles. I checked online, I.e. various sites as well as nhtsa and found the GM Customer Satisfaction Program N192220080. In the pdf on your site dated June 22, 2021, it is stated that only 530 vehicles were affected. I believe that this problem is more widespread than GM is willing to admit. Fortunately I was not driving on the interstate at a high rate of speed where “ a potential loss of propulsion” could have resulted in a tragic outcome.
The transmission consistently fails to shift properly, hanging between Drive and Overdrive. The dealership initially diagnosed the issue as a faulty torque converter & lines, then a tow/haul switch, and replaced it; however, the failure persists. The transmission now requires full replacement. I believe this is a known manufacturing defect present prior to the vehicle's release. Additionally, the lifetime powertrain warranty originally attached to the vehicle has been removed from GM's records. This hesitation causes unpredictable acceleration and loss of power, creating a significant safety hazard when merging onto highways or navigating heavy traffic. It is available for inspection upon request.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was able to be restarted and taken to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the ground wire, positive wire, and electrical connection box had low resistance causing the battery to drain and lose voltage. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
Truck has been making a clunking sound for over a year and has gotten worse. Recently took to Jim’s Transmission to have transmission evaluated. Have been told that transmission needs to have a rebuild or new transmission $4500-6000. The truck has just over 67000 miles on it. Understand that there are class action suits regarding Gm being aware of the flaw in the transmissions. I have contacted both Chevy dealer and GM via certified letter and GM via email, and received no response regarding a goodwill repair.
I was driving in Highway 85 going south 65 mph I had my grandkids in the backseat and my truck automatically baked by itself and that electrical system control light came on break tire minor needs service and my engine started knocking. I almost had an accident in the highway I had to disconnect my battery for my brakes to release.
Because of faulty ground strap, lost power steering and several other fault codes. Authorized GM dealer reported ground strap completely broke. My vehicle has a little over 26000 miles on odometer.
Hello, I purchased a 2019 Chevrolet Trailboss LT from a Chevrolet dealership on April 23 2024. I noticed a few days later and after the first rain, the back window was leaking water inside. There is a service bulletin regarding this issue, I called General Motors and was told that they recommend me getting this repaired at my expense. Ironically my mother whom was with me at the time of purchase was coughing on our way home from the dealership and said she’s very sensitive to black mold and felt the truck had mold somewhere in it. I do have pictures of large water stains on the headliner along with water running down the back window onto the carpet. I do not feel comfortable putting my family in this vehicle with possible black mold. At time of purchase, i mentioned to the sales lady that my mother suffers from a chronic lung infection and the leaking back window service bulletin was never disclosed with me. I feel that General Motors should be held accountable to make these repairs at their expense due to black mold, water around electrical and seatbelts. Thank you for any help
While driving my 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab with the grandkids in the car the electric power steering was lost while driving the vehicle which almost cause an accident. It became extremely hard to turn the wheel lost the power sterering while making a turn almost hit the curb and by an on coming vehicle. I noticed there is a National recall on the Chevy Silverado's for this exact issue with the same symptons listed on the recall but my dealer ( Depaula Chev located in Albany NY) states for some reason my vehicles VIN is not listed as a recall thats associated with the National recall. I had a person come by cause Im afraid to drive the vehicle and it came up as service the power steering EPS.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle jerked and briefly lost motive power before slamming into gear. The check engine warning light was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle returned to normal functionally, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact stated that weeks before the failure the oil pump was replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Sliding Back window of 2019 and newer GMC pickups are experiencing issues with defects on the plastic connecting to the back window. They are cracking and allowing water to enter vehicle and down to carpet possibly creating mold. They have fixed mine one time already and the fix lasted for a little over 2 years. and just my truck was in the shop again for over a week and it’s the same issue . Advising they will not cover it under extended warranty . The is a health concern and GMC knows about it and will not do anything to rectify the problem
#8 cylinder failure. This happened 2months after purchase of this 40,000.00 dollar truck went to 3 different mechanics and told the #8 cylinder needed new engine now I’m paying for this vehicle as it sits aside my house never by another Chevy…
Transmission shudders when starting off and slams into gear when down shifting. Took truck to dealer while still under warranty and was told that GM states this is "normal operation" and refused to perform repair under warranty. Now that truck is out of warranty period, GM is saying that transmission needs work at a cost of $6000 for torque converter and valve body assembly GM is well aware of the issues they are having with their Transmissions and refuses to fix or update..
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact stated that while attempting to shift into 3rd gear, the vehicle returned to 1st gear abruptly. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact replaced and performed a reset to the battery and the check engine warning light disappeared. The contact stated that after repair the vehicle worked properly for several days however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
GM 5.3 Liter V8 engines are known to have lifters lock up and bend push rods or destroy the camshaft resulting in engine replacement or rebuild. GM's fix is to replace the badly designed lifters with the exact same ones hoping that they will last past the warranty period thereby putting the entire cost of replacement on the owners. GM is well aware of the lifter issue but denies any responsibility. A simple google of 5.3 lifter failure will show thousands of complaints and experiences from various auto boards/pages. My Lifters went out while doing 75mph on the highways resulting in immediate slowdown with cars having to swerve to avoid hitting me while i pulled over to the side.
Lifter failure while driving on highway. Resulted in an immediate drop in speed taking me from 65 to 30 mph quickly, and having to cross three highway lanes of traffic in order to pull over. Lifter failures are well documented on the chevy silverado 1500 trucks with the 5.3V8 and the 6.2V8. Mine happened after the warranty period but there are many documented cases of owners having lifter failures at 3,000 miles.
I was on my way to an important doctor appointment driving on the interstate in fairly heavy traffic. All at once with no warning my engine died and the transmission shifted itself into neutral. I was in the fast lane when the engine stopped. Fortunately I was able to make it over to the emergency lane. Otherwise I could have very likely have been hit by another driver. This was a very scary occurrence. I had it towed to the dealer and was told that my 6.2L engine was locked up. I have done my own oil changes for the past 55 years so I know for a fact that there was oil in the engine and it had be changed regularly. From what I have read on numerous other web sites this seems to be a common occurrence with these engines. I think there should be a factory recall on these engines immediately before someone is seriously injured or killed. Please look into this very serious problem.
Transmission shift hard.
Engine blew the lifters while driving on the highway at 75MPH in Morning traffic. The truck immediately lost power and dropped from 75 down to 45 quickly without any input from me. Luckily the cars behind me were able to swerve before hitting me while i was pulling to the side. The lifter failures are a known issue with GM trucks with the 5.3 and 6.2 liter engines. The service advisor told me they do at least 12 of these per month. There are 100's of messages on several forums where people have the exact same issue. Some of them experiencing the failures with as low as 5K miles. GM's fix is to replace both banks of lifter if the engine has under 16K miles and only replace the one bank if the engine has over 16K miles. The FIX is not really a Fix since GM is putting the same lifter design right back in, leading to many people having the issue multiple times.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 30 MPH, the check transmission warning light illuminated. The contact was informed by her husband that prior to the warning light being illuminated, the vehicle was vibrating and shaking abnormally. The contact stated that her husband had experienced the failure with the vehicle jolting and the transmission slipping while shifting between gears. The contact stated that the transmission was repaired 5-months prior at the dealer. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
abrupt shifts when approaching a red light or stop and sometimes rough shifting.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the "Oil Pressure Low, Turn Vehicle Off" message was displayed. The contact's wife pulled to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the failure was related to Customer Satisfaction Program: N212326940 (Engine Oil Cooler Lines Detaching from Crimp); however, the VIN was not included. The contact stated that the rear main seal had previously been replaced due to an engine oil leak, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000.
1: Cylinder 1 misfire (available for inspection upon request) 2: Vehicle can cut off without warning while ABS brakes malfunction. 3: Dealer unknown Independent service confirm 4:unknown 5: engine light illuminated intermittingly 1week prior to the misfire.
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that upon reversing out of the driveway and shifting into drive(D), the vehicle jerked several times, then the vehicle responded as needed. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure mostly occurred when the engine was cold. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown software update was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the manufacturer had advised that the vehicle was operating as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
When I put the vehicle in reverse the camera goes fuzzy then cuts out completely. Then goes on/off repeatedly. Also having transmission issues, I put the vehicle in drive and doesn’t move until about 7 seconds after I let off the brake. Does a bad jerk! Shifting issue throughout the whole time I’m driving! I talked to a guy about his truck that has the same issues I’m having and he said the dealer needs to change the transmission soon. Really concerns me bc I feel like one day it will leave me stranded and the truck only has 48,000 miles
Driving truck down road, suddenly alert on dashboard comes on that says “oil pressure low, shut off vehicle.” Turned into the parking lot, shut truck off. Noticed oil cooling line had come off the clamped side. Tried replacing it into clamp and replacing oil but engine would not turn over. Towed to shop. Had to replace entire engine. Noticed that other 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500s were recalled for same issue. Called to report to GMC—- they would not do anything about it since it was not part of the original recall. Please consider asking them to expand recall—-given that the recall reflects the exact issue we had with our 2019 Chevy.
Cracked Engine. There was no warning. No indications prior to incident. Driving approximately 45/50 mph on road, out of NO WHERE a message appeared "Shift into NEUTRAL and SHUT OFF ENGINE" I coasted to the side of the of road, there was no power at all. I did as the message stated. Once I turned off the vehicle, it would not start. It has not been able to start since that time. I had to have the vehicle towed. First to my local mechanic who could not find anything and suggested to take to a dealer, I had to have it towed again. Thankfully other vehicles behind me were patient enough for me to get to the side of road. However, this could have caused a very serious accident. I have read other complaints online regarding the same issue. GM/CHEVY states there are not enough complaints of the issue but have had some. Does a death need to occur to get attention? I certainly hope not. The vehicle has been properly maintained. Chevy can not give a reason for this happening. My vehicle is over the warranty amount in mileage. Therefore I have to pay 30% of the cost for a new engine. I would not be as upset if there was something I did, but if it is properly maintained, why? No one can answer that question. All I get is "I understand". If they did, they would have done something sooner and they would cover this cost 100%.There has to be some defect or issue somewhere. They can not seem to give me an exact figure for the repair. Who knows what my out of pocket cost will be.
I had an oil cooler line fail on the interstate, causing a sudden loss of oil pressure. Caused a great deal of smoke to the side and rear of vehicle as well as oil spilled beneath. I was fortunate to get off the road before an accident occurred. There was a related recall to this line in the past but covered only a small number of vehicles. It still seems to be a common occurrence according to several mechanics, vehicle owners, and tow truck drivers.
While driving vehicle oil cooler line detached from fitting. There were no prior leaks before the incident. The day prior the vehicle received an oil change and no leaks were observed.
The engine cooling oil line became separated at the crimp spilling all the engine oil onto the street while the vehicle was in operation, no warning lights were on prior to the malfunction, GM has made a recal for this particular issue
The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at 45 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond. The brake, the ABS, and the traction control warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the messages "Brake Service Failure "Trailer Brake System" "Service Trailer Brake System" and "Service ESC" were displayed on the GMC mobile app. The contact stated that he pumped the brake pedal; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that as he was approaching the traffic light, he made a left turn into a ditch to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to pull out of the ditch. The contact stated that he activated the hazard lights and drove to the residence at 5 MPH. The dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was made to tow the vehicle to their location the following day. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 31,120.
