I have major rust on the frame I just purchased the truck. Is their a recall on 2021 Silverado frames1500 custom.
I had a head on crash on 2/14/23. The other driver was moving in excess of 50mph. The hit was center of the front bumper pushing the bumper and radiator in to the engine compartment. No air bag deployment. However the Onstar system activated immediately.
Loud growling. Breaks safety concern due to fail.
ESC failed. The 2021 Chevy Silverado (39495 mi) began to shutter and a slight bouncing of the rear end. The ESC light came on the service ESC warning on the dashboard then the check engine light began to blink at the same time the parking brake light came on. The dash warning switched to have parking brake serviced. The truck as best as I could tell applied the parking brake several times for no reason while at highway speeds and traffic on all sides. All warnings stopped when Auto engine shut down at exit ramp light. Previously brought into dealership for “Service ECS” and “Service Power Steering Drive With Care”. I was told “ unable to replicate “ (23194 mi). Vehicle was returned to me. They did confirm the dash warning was stored in the computer. I do not believe any warning (blinkers) or brake lights came on to warn vehicles behind me of the rear brakes being applied by the ESC.
There is a current recall on this type of vehicle because the spare tire is not the correct size for the vehicle. This is recall #N212346510. Unfortunately, my specific vehicle is not included in that recall for some unknown reason. I experienced a flat tire, road service came and replaced with the spare which is too small for the vehicle, and I was only able to travel to a tire dealership in order to have the original tire repaired and placed back on the vehicle. I still have the wrong size spare even though there is an open recall for this problem. The dealership will not replace the spare without manufacturer recall one my specific vehicle VIN and/or direction to complete the exchange from the manufacturer. Evidently, only a certain percentage of the effected vehicles were recalled. That hardly seems safe. This problem can lead to issues with the brake system if a car uses the wrong size spare. How do I get my specific vehicle added to this recall in order to have the needed service? Please advise. Thank you.
This is a potential problem for a serious injury to a child , stroller, pet - or damage to front of truck and vehicle in front of truck. The hood of the truck is very high. And sitting in the drivers seat you are "driving blind. " It is impossible to see an object directly in front at bumper level. The only way to judge the distance to an object, or small person, is to get out of the truck and look. I had minor damage to the front of the truck by hitting my garage. But more seriously if there were a child or stroller- you literally cannot see it. This could be easily fixed with a forward looking camera - and the truck comes with a rear one- but Chevynfirs not offer any front camera/ park assist on any of its Silverado 1500's.!The manual says park assist is an option- but Chevy currently does not offer that option. This is dangerous..
The 2021 LT Trail Boss with the 5.3L engine started a really rough idle, engine knocking, random misfiring, had Service Emergency Brake, Service ESC messages on the display, check engine light and several other dash warning lights. The dealer diagnosed the truck with lifter fail apart (failure), intake valve push rod bent, and PCM failure. Odometer reading 19,368 miles.
So I have been having issues with my truck losing oil. My dealership told me that Walmart made an issue with the oil filter causing it to leak oil out. After the dealership corrected the issue. I was on my way to the store this morning it was damp so I was having a lot of traction issues. Got to the gas station checked tires, no issue with them. Temperature is above freezing. Just thought maybe it’s in my head. Well I get about 2 miles from my house and low oil light comes on again. So this is an issue. It has happened 2 times to me. Had I not been cautious I could have slipped off the road or had a collision because the oil mixing with the water on the roadways. I will be reaching out to my dealership tomorrow to try and get them to correct this issue again. Seems there is a service bulletin on how to tighten the oil filter. Because of oil leaks.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving off an off-ramp at approximately 40-60 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly lost power and turned off. The contact restarted the vehicle to continue driving. The failure had occurred twice. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brakes grabbed, causing the vehicle to lunge forward, decelerate, and then lunge forward again, before coming to a complete stop. The contact shifted to park(P) and then to drive(D) and continued driving. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times before receiving notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train). The dealer was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the recall repair was performed. The contact stated that one hour after the recall repair, the failure recurred with the check engine warning light illuminated. The dealer was informed of the failure; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired again. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
On 12/26/22 my wife noticed a noise coming from the engine of the pick up truck. On 12/27/22 I started the truck and noticed a noise coming from the engine. I lifted the hood to try and locate where the noise was coming from but I could not see anything. There were no lights on the dash. I drove to work and parked it. 8 hours later I started the truck back up and the noise was still there. I began driving home and the truck made a spurted noise causing me to jerk the wheel nearly driving off the roadway. The truck is still making the noise. I contacted the Chevy dealer and they explained they would take a look into the issue. I’ve done some research and noticed that a bunch of 2020-2022 Silverado’s have been having lifter issues. I’ve also seen that the dealers are only replacing one side of the lifter banks and the others are failing 500-2000 miles after the repairs. I’ve also seen that people’s trucks have failed on highways and streets causing accidents and or traffic hazards. This is something Chevy needs to look into and fix to prevent any serious injury or death created by these issues. I don’t have photos but I do have a video of the noise that I could email if need be since I can not attach the video to this form.
Anytime the weather gets colder than 32degrees Fahrenheit the DEF system freezes, which even if the tank is full makes the truck go into limp mode until it thaws out. The engine light pops on and off with no codes associated with it. Now the breaks and break lines are freezing when it gets below freezing. These are just a few of the reoccurring problems we’ve experienced since buying the truck less than a year ago.
While vehicle is in 4-wheel drive or 4 auto or 4 L. It makes a grinding whining noise! I have contacted the dealer Newberry motors of Newberry MI 49868. I asked them about a service bulletin I saw on the noises I am hearing, and I was told service bulletins are only assigned to a vin number and not groups of vehicles. which is a lie!!! SO THE GRINDING NOISE IS BAD WHEN IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. PERIOD. DOES NOT MAKE THE NOISE WHILE IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE. THANKS FOR ANY HELP THAT CAN BE PROVIDED!

Window switch failed and I was unable to roll down the window. Dealer confirmed and performed repairs. Problem occurred on a dry day with no previous issues and the dealer stated it was manufacturing defect with the switch.
Power hesitation, along with loud knocking sounds coming from the engine. Cause truck to completely shut off while driving 35mph. No warning lights or anything came on until complete failure
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal knocking sound while driving at various speeds and while idling. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the engine lifters were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the engine abnormal knocking sound was not sufficiently loud to issue a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000.
Per the repairing dealership, a lifter went bad. GM will not replace all of the lifters, just one side of the engine, due to the vehicle having over 8000 miles. Mine currently has 12,500. I no longer feel safe knowing that GM is replacing only half of the know defect with new parts that have the same issue (Told to me by the repair facility.) The vehicles engine could fail again, resulting in loss of acceleration. No warning was observed during, however after the fact, check engine and other warning lights were illuminated.
Engine misfire due to faulty valves which caused vehicle to lose power and stall. Check engine light began to flash on dash. Took directly to Chevrolet dealership. Dealership confirmed faulty valves and bent pushrod on left side of engine. Dealership to repair engine under warranty. Dealership stated that right side engine valves had already been replaced in November 2021 at approximately 13,000 miles. This was before I purchased the truck in May 2022 and I was not made aware of this repair. Truck now has 22,900 miles. Dealership stated that this is a known issue with Chevrolet 5.3 liter engine and they preform similar valve replacements on this engine at least once a week.
Dealer said lifters failed. Was stuck in middle of interstate for 2 hrs
Body control modules sas modules no communication service esc light and traction control lights coming on vehicle looses all steers ng when lights come on at any speeds it says service esc power steering loss drive with caution have had it into multiple shops and no diagnostic scanners can get into the 3 systems there 6050 miles on vehicle we haven’t gotten in a wreck yet but that is totally not out of the question it will happen and when it does its going to be devistating
The transfer case has locked up several times causing me to wreck once. The engine misfires and does not give the MPG advertised. The life of my family has been put at risk with little to no care from the dealer after several attempts for service.
Engine oil cooler defect was diagnosed by chevrolet dealership. Everytime I drive the truck, it would leak oil and would have a burning smell all underneath the truck. The part was on backorder for over a month and a half. After this long wait of not being able to drive the truck, the dealership finally put a new oil cooler in. The problem persists and they are not able to figure out from the engineer what will solve the problem. I have been out of a truck for over a month and a half now with no hopes of the issue being resolved.
2021 Silverado RST, 5.3. Started having strange loud random clicking sounds when first starting. Would loose power, at take off or when trying to accelerate. This was at 9400 miles on the vehicle. Was not showing any check engine light or issues on dash. When examining engine compartment, found loose bolts, that had broken. Took it to local Chevy dealership, acted like there was nothing wrong with it. Instantly trying to get out of performing work. I had a feel it was going to be lifter issues. Found out while there around 4 thousand miles it already had lifters replaced. After debating with them for two days, and trying to convince them there was issues. They finally found multiple problems with lifters, misfiring, rocker arm not moving due to collapsed lifter. They found broken bolts in cylinder heads. Ended up having to replace all left and right side lifters.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to steer as needed. The service now message was displayed. The vehicle was restarted three times, but the steering remained inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where the system was reset. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, but the failure recurred. While starting the vehicle, the power steering functionality was inoperable. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 27,000.
Smell gasoline inside the cabin. Vehicle jerk when moving gear from reverse to drive or drive to reverse.
MY PICK UP WAS HIT FROM THE REAR THE DRIVE SHAFT BROKE AT THE WELL AND THE REAR BROKE BOTH SIDE OF THE AXLE TO THE HOUSING OF THE REAR I HAVE PICK OF THE REAR AND THE DRIVE SHAFT.
July 18th 2022 16,059 miles engine issues again. This time was 21 hours from home. Cause reported was oil pump failed. New engine to be installed. Asked if previous engine issues was resolved aka lifters but couldn’t get a 100 precent yes or no. Truck now has little over 30k and from time to time makes noises like lifters chattering. I pray it’s been addressed but fell it may still fail again. Just will it be under warranty or out of warranty next time.
This 2021Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss I purchased new April 2021. Since I have owned it the check engine light would flash randomly with or without a load and now just this past weekend (7/17/2021) the check engine light stayed on. Took it to the Chevy dealer for repair and was told it was a lifter problem. I recently just purchased a camper, well under GM allowed towing capacity, and worried that if the engine should fail either up hill or down hill that there could be loss of control of vehicle from other systems shutting down.
ENGINE LIFTER FAILURE AT 17K MILES. SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AT TIME OF FAILURE. ROUGH IDLE AFTERWARDS WITH TRUCK VIBRATING. NO WARNING LIGHTS AT TIME OF FAILURE. STOPPED VEHICLE AND SHUT OFF ENGINE. NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED UPON RESTART. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. PASSENGER SIDE BANK OF LIFTERS AND RODS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. SUBSEQUENTLY, DRIVER SIDE BANK OF LIFTERS FAILED AT 23K MILES. NO WARNING LIGHTS. AS BEFORE, SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AND NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. POWER LOSS POSES SIGNIFICANT RISK/DANGER WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. SECOND EVENT IS CURRENTLY AT DEALER FOR REPAIR.
At 7,316 miles my 2021 Silverado 5.3 V8 had lifter failure while driving, the truck would not accelerate correctly and I was forced to pull off the road, luckily it was able to turn off at the next road before the vehicles behind me caught up. The check engine light was blinking and was making a lot of popping noises. I was able to take back roads and drop it off at the dealership for repairs.
Collapsed Lifters an Bent Push Rods
Lifters blew in my brand new engine with only 18k miles while driving. Engine was shaking & knocking & lost power when trying to accelerate.
I was on interstate 85 and the whole truck started shaking and check engine light, service ESC light and service parking brake light came on. Thankfully I was near and exit ramp and got off as I had almost no power. I limped my truck back to the dealership where they diagnosed it as lifter failure and replaced both banks of lifters. This is a known problem with General Motors and is simply a matter of time before a terrible accident occurs.
Vehicle: 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 3.0L LM2 Turbo Diesel Mileage at most recent failure at 106k miles Complaint Narrative This vehicle has experienced repeated, serious defects affecting engine, transmission, emissions system, and safety recall performance. Despite numerous repair attempts over three years, the problems remain unresolved and the vehicle is currently undriveable and held by the dealership (since August 17, 2025). Key safety concerns: Transmission failure: Transmission catastrophically failed at 78,942 miles due to excessive metal contamination, requiring full replacement. Transmission issues have persisted even after replacement. Recall N24254440 (rear wheel lock-up): Dealer attempted recall repairs multiple times in 2025 but failed due to programming errors. Recall remains incomplete and unresolved. Hard starting / reduced power: Vehicle intermittently fails to start or loses propulsion, creating risk of stalling in intersections or traffic. Engine/emissions failures: Multiple check engine events with NOx sensors, exhaust differential pressure sensors, and coolant flow valve failures. Current status: Vehicle has been in dealer custody since Aug 17, 2025, with no completion date. Dealer reports unresolved oil leak, check valve/box sensor replacement pending, and open recall not fixed. The cumulative history shows systemic defects across powertrain and emissions systems, ongoing safety recall failures, and lack of durable repairs. The 2021 silverado v8 randomly started making a knocking noise. The steering wheel would shake randomly as I accelerated and stayed above certain speeds. I’m barely able to drive slowly residential speeds at most. If I drive any faster I’m worried for my safety that the car while break down in the middle of a busy road posing a danger to my family and those around me. I’m not sure if this is a lifter issue, or engine issue but it seems to be a widespread issue that I haven’t recurved any recall notice for.
I have a 2021 Chevy Silverado. The #3 Cylinder has failed and an all new lifter kit needs to be installed. Truck was knocking violently and died. Dealership stated the parts on back order nationwide and they have no clue when replacement parts will arrive.
2021 Silverado Trail Boss. Went to the store, came outside started the truck and it showed me ESC Warning and Power Steering Failure Drive with Care notice on the dash. The Steering was very hard to turn. I tried multiple times, and it did not work. I started reading information on line and found out that there are multiple truck owners who had same issue. I saw some information to leave the truck off for 20 - 30 min and try again. I left it off for 30 min and started again. At that time it started fine. I am going to the Chevy dealer because this can also happen while I am driving and it can cause an accident. My truck has only 12k miles.
Truck caught on fire while driving down I75 interstate in Florida. No component or system failure lights where present. Smoke was smelled by the passengers and within seconds the truck was on fire. The safety of the passengers was at FULL risk, and lucky to be alive! The truck was full engaged as soon as the truck pulled over on the side of the interstate. Investigation by GM & Insurance company took place. The truck is available for further investigation. We are unsure how the fire started. It did come up from both sides of the cab, and very quickly. Nothing has been confirmed by any inspections completed by GM & Progressive. GM & the Service Dealer are not engaging as they should be.
Vehicle engine has experienced engine lifter failure at 28,000 miles. Engine began shaking violently, check engine lights flashing, traction control light, and stability control lights all came one while driving on the highway several hours away from home. Vehicle had to be towed by Chevy roadside assistance to the nearest dealership. Chevy dealership inspected and said they have to order new lifters for my engine and it would take several weeks for repair.
Add 1 more victim to the ongoing and growing list of GM owners of vehicles with 5.3/6.2Lmotors with DFM lifter failure. 50 miles after returning from a 500 mile trip from N. Wisconsin fishing trip this motor threw in the towel. Dealer assessment cylinder #6 lifter failure with an extra bonus of damage bad enough to require replacement of entire cylinder head! This motor has 11K. miles on it, and I have had oil changed multiple times as I am old school and don't buy into the whole 7500K. thing. Guess I should have saved my cash for something more fun! Check engine light did not come on till almost 2mi. after vehicle started running badly, flashing check engine light did not come on till I was almost home 15 mi. Had it towed to the dealer on my own dime!
Truck started having a rough idle and was popping and banging while driving. It was hesitating while driving in traffic and would slowdown and jerk while trying to drive to the dealership. It stalled at red lights multiple times. Once it got to a dealership and they identified it as #4 cylinder lifter was malfunctioning. They have not yet disassembled the engine yet to find out the extent of the damage. This is a known issue with these trucks and GM won’t issue a recall to proactively fix the issue before more damage is done to the motor. Some of which may not show up until after the warranty expires. There was no warning light or check engine light on at anytime. The dealership service department was very surprised by this. Now I’m without my truck for at least 2 weeks with no loaner of voucher for a rental. The truck has less than 19,000 miles on it and has had all regular maintenance done at a dealership.
The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 10 MPH, there was an engine misfire and then a knocking sound started coming from the engine. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer who stated that there might be a failure with the valve lifters; however, a diagnostic test had not been performed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
I was driving 65mph down the freeway when the truck suddenly turned off and the dash told me to put in neutral and start again so I did just that. Made it about another mile and the truck completely turned off and wouldn’t turn back on there was nowhere to pull over or get off the freeway in that time frame so I was stopped in the middle of the highway with my family in the truck. Luckily a guy in another truck was able to push me over to the shoulder with his vehicle where I sat and waited four hours for a tow to the dealership. Two days later they called me and told me it’s spun a bearing and threw two rods and needed a new engine. I’m anal about servicing my vehicles they told me it just happens, but it was a brand new truck with only 35k miles. Ever since I got the new engine installed it’s constantly squeaking and they can’t seem to pin point the issues I feel like it’s going to happen again and this next time I’ll probably be out of warranty and it’ll be out of pocket for me to fix.
Speed limit 70mph and driving on the highway, suddenly the vehicle began to shake and the engine light came on and the vehicle was making a forced deceleration to 40mph. Other vehicles had to swerve to avoid my vehicle, as I was attempting to pull off the highway safely. "service brake system" alarm also came on. The manual advised when getting this alarm to have the vehicle towed. Once at the dealership this note was on my service papers " Customer stated engine light was on and truck running rough and shaking, review of DTC's showed cylinder misfire on #3, tested showed possible issue with spark plug. Relocated coil to different cylinder to see if issue followed. Misfire still noted on cylinder 3, replaced spark plug and conducted test drive and note misfire still present on #3. Removed valve cover and noted failed lifter on intake valve for cylinder #3. All lifters replaced on left side of engine." The dealership stated that "this is a known problem for the 5.3L V8Ecotec engine, that the lifters FAIL." I am a female, I was traveling alone and had to find tow service and pay up front. Once transported 20miles to the nearest dealership, on a Saturday afternoon, I was stranded at a hotel for 2 days waiting for the dealership to open and check out the vehicle. If this is a "known" problem with this engine, THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED. Now I get to worry when the other side of the engine's lifters will 'fail' so they can be replaced under warranty. This is unacceptable in an almost new 2021 truck with 20,000 miles on it.
2021 Chevy Silverado durmax brought it in three times now for starting issues 2nd time found data module was bad two weeks later brought it back for same issues. Dealer said they can’t find anything wrong I’ve broke down on hwy 5 in. Dangerous spot and know I don’t feel safe driving this.
Vehicle will not start and cranks until starter kicks out, about 30 seconds each time. I am afraid if this happens at a traffic signal or stop sign it could be bad. I took it to the dealer on July 30-2022. (2972 mileage) and they could not verify concern. I found a safety bulletin on a GM website for a extended crank/ no start. It is PIP5806D, The dealer says they know nothing about this. It lists a labor operation number 4088148, due to a corrupt signal from camshaft position sensor to the ECM. It has happened now 4 times, and current mileage is 6973. I have been dealing with Champion Chevrolet in Reno NV. It has started after 8 to 10 crank time outs and the battery starts slowing the crank speed down, but around 10 to 15 minutes have passed by then.
At 2000 miles my truck developed a new “fluttering”, “ticking sound” once all cylinders reactivated as apart of the dynamic fuel management system. After bringing the truck to dealership, they proceeded to replace the lifters, the exhaust system twice, and performed a computer reflash. The truck was at the dealership for over 45 days within the first 6 months of ownership. After all the repairs, the sound is still audible and getting worse. In addition to this sound, at around 30,000 miles the transmission has now developed an audible clunking sound that can be felt once on release the gas peddle under slower operating speeds. After trying to engage with GM on simply understanding what the problem is and why there is the need for so much repair on a brand new vehicle, I am candidly fed up and let down as long term GM customer.
Vehicle began having issues at 3 months old... Random service messages, defective headlight, wierd engine noises at startup and stalling upon acceleration/deceleration. I took it to the dealer several times about the issues I were having but they always say they aren't able to replicate any issues. 3 months later I was driving on the highway and the engine started knocking. Had it towed to the dealer and it took them 6 months to replace engine, tcm, starter, and other parts. After finally getting the truck back, it was still stalling and there was a check engine light... Dealer did not reassemble the vehicle properly and several parts and bolts were still missing. It went right back in the shop and catalytic converters were replaced. I also mentioned missing parts and bolts. I get the truck back again and it still seems like it wants to stall. I was turning into a parking lot a few days later and it seemed like it wanted to cut off. While I was distracted trying to see if the truck cut off, I hit a small pole... Truck was damaged way more than it should have been because the dealer did not reassemble it properly. Body shop said my bumper was only held on by 2 bolts and several other bolts and pieces were missing. They said if my bumper was attached properly the damage would not have been as bad. The vehicle was already unsafe because of stalling and the dealer made it structurally unsafe as well... I have opened cases with gm and they aren't doing anything about it. Here this truck is 14 months old and it's been in their possession more than mine... I have asked them about replacing the vehicle and they insist on fixing the issues but never do and I end up driving an u safe vehicle around.
