Unknown The tailgate keeps opening on its own
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the check engine warning light had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown service was performed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The blind spot warning has been a non stop issue with my truck. It frequently stops working and when it stops working the only indication is a short maybe 3 second message in the driver information center that goes away without the driver having to acknowledge it so it very easy to miss. Sometimes you see this when starting up the truck other times it might be working and then just stop working as you are driving down the highway.
The blind spot notification light on driver door mirror stays on while driving.. the engine sputters and makes noise while driving over 45 mph
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, REDUCED ENGINE POWER, COOLING FANS ON HIGH SPEED DEALER ADVISED NEEDS A COOLANT FLOW CONTROL VALVE REPAIR PARTS NOT AVAILABLE, SEVERAL VEHICLES WAITING ON SAME PART
I've owned the 2022 Silverado High Country with 6.2L engine. Over the past 3.5 years, the engine has had oil consumption issues where I was required to take the vehicle to Chevrolet dealership every 500 miles in Hampton, VA to have the oil level checked. I kept getting the message "low Oil Level" on the information center. I also kept hearing loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Chevy service would top off the oil level (sometimes 1/2 or 1+ quart low), and send me on my way. After oil consumption and ticking noise continued, I was notified by Dealer that a Safety Recall April 2025 was issued by GM. I met with GM Representative and Chevy Service Manager April 2025, and based on my truck history with oil consumption and lifter noise, decision was made to replace engine. New Engine was installed May 2025 and all appeared to be good to go. However, in November 2025 I heard the loud clicking noise in the new engine. Hampton, VA Chevy service conducted an inspection and found a bent push rod in new engine. Service replaced the push rod and all lifters based on history of lifter issues.
Engine seized up while traveling on interstate at about 75 mph. No warnings. No lights. Just no power and a message on the dash instructing me to restart the engine. This was at the tail end of a 6.5 hour road trip. I was able to put it in neutral and coast to safety. Luckily it was not in a high traffic area.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to decelerate, the vehicle briefly surged forward. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 90,000.
There is already a recall on the Chevy Silverado but only for the 10speed engine not the V8s in regards to the transmission. There have been a select few V8s that just now started getting recalled. Our truck is doing exactly what these recalls are reporting- hard shifting, knocking of engine, check engine light, trouble shifting into gear. All of which could cause a blown motor or issues while driving and decides to breaks down on the highway or regular roads which if that happens could result in accidents. GM knows there are issues but refuses to acknowledge that all the trucks in the 2022 year regardless of the engine type need to be recalled.
I live in Eagar Arizona, we are currently under evacuation orders due to the Greer fire. My 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is not usable to leave the area. Because of the well known and seemingly unaddressed issue of a "coolant control valve" my truck has less than 29000 miles and is, in my opinion unsafe to use to escape a forest fire. I am sure there are other safety concerns applicable to the KNOWN design flaw. More importantly Chevrolet seems disinterested in resolving this nationwide problem with any type of expediency.
When the vehicle is completely stopped, shifted to the park position, ignition turned off, the motor will stop running but an error come up on the dash " shift to park" and the horn start chirping and the instrument panel, radio etc. will not shut off even though it is in park .I have read this is a huge safety concern with my model truck and many other Chevrolet vehicles but I'm not sue if it's resulted in any injuries or damage. The GM customer service rep I spoke to said to file this with you NHTSA so that if there is enough of a safety concern or defective part problem a recall will be issues. thank you for your time [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 50-55 MPH, the vehicle shut off. The driver was able to coast over to the side of the road. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
On March 29, 2025, I was driving my 2022 ZR2 approximately 55mph around a winding road when the vehicle suddenly shut down. No warning lights or other indicators alerted me to impending failure. My 81-year-old mother was in the truck with me at the time. By the grace of God I was able to get the truck pulled over. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was diagnosed with engine seized. I have a wife and almost 4 year old daughter. Now that I know about this issue and am reading all of the reports, I no longer trust this truck with my family's lives. We are single income and this has hit us financially.
My vehicle has 43K miles and I just got a p1098 code. I took it to a local mechanic and they have determined that the Engine coolant Control Valve Position Sensor is not functioning. This is causing the fan to run at 100% at all times. I am also getting a message on the dash stating that the vehicle is in reduced acceleration mode. When doing my research I have found that this part is failing on multiple Silverado's. The part is on national back order and the dealership won't answer any questions regarding warranty.
The first incident the truck had 11,000 miles on it. Engine had to be replaced and took almost 3 months. The truck completely cut off driving down the interstate. It just happened again truck has 86,000 miles on it and it happened again. Truck lost all power and completely shut off going down the road at night, on the side of a high rise bridge. Now they have no idea when it can be replaced because it’s a nationwide problem with the 6.2 liter engine. Both times my family has been in this truck and it completely loses power. GM needs to be held responsible and fix this issue. I’m on motor number 2 truck has 80,000 miles on it. Truck was repaired the first time at Walt Massey GMC Chevrolet in Lucedale, MS. The truck is sitting at the same dealership right now
My tailgate started opening randomly for 2 consecutive days now. This happens while the vehicle is in park with the keys out of the ignition and also while driving down the road exposing items in the bed to possibly fall out and cause potential injury or death from accidents.
The entire engine locked up driving down the highway. This is the gm 6.2 engine. Currently new engine being installed but problem is still there
the first engine blew while pulling out of my street onto a 45 mph road in march of 2025. they did the useless recall on the new engine and said it was good. The replacement engine blew in the november of 2025 in the fast lane at 80 mph. no warning no check engine lights just shut off. The replacement engine started make noise like it was going to blow again in december 2025. I paid 65k to have 3 bad engines in one year. corporate gm was of no help
2022 Chevy 50k miles engine failed march 2025 Towed to dealership awaiting engine inspection and confirm replacement t or repairs.
I was driving my vehicle at highway speed and the engine stalled. No warning or indicator lights. It just stopped on the interstate. Made it to the shoulder and tried to restart. Had to get it towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with crankshaft bearing failure. I need a new engine.
Three year old vehicle with regular dealership maintenance. Spring broke, dealership stated that this is very common in the 6.2 L engine. Caused the Lifters to fail and scarring to happen on the camshafts. It was less expensive to replace the engine. This vehicle was of course out of warranty. Happened suddenly almost caused an accident as I was driving down the road and lost the ability to drive.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shuddering abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the transmission was replaced due to coolant intrusion. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred approximately 1-month later. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer on three separate occasions due to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.
Felt like brakes on rear were grabbing went in limp mode now I don't have reverse check engine light on unhooked negative on battery engine light went off still no reverse
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate latch independently unlocked. The contact stated that the failure had occurred whenever the latch became wet from rainfall. In addition, the contact stated property was lost off the back of the vehicle due to the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the torque converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,110.
Transmission valve body failing causing limited power and potential accident in middle of the highway.
Main bearing failure, same problems as reported by other 6.2 Liter GM vehicles. I had regular oil changes and was still 2000 miles from my next oil change and the engine failed with no warning on a road trip. Waiting on GM to send a new engine block under warranty. My engine was also 2 quarts of oil low.
While returning home from my son's graduation. I came to a stop at a stoplight. Before I could come to a complete stop my check engine lights came on and beeped indicating I had low oil pressure. I looked at my guage and it was sitting at 0 psi. I gave the truck some gas to try to bring the oil pressure up and it seemed to work. But the damage was already done. It had a steady knock. I pulled over to check my oil level. It was full. I was able to make it home and to the dealership. I told them what had happened and they replaced the engine. This was at around 20,000 miles. 1 year later, 8,000 miles later. Driving home from work I noticed a tick sitting at a stop light. Drove it home and parked it, knowing my past expirience I didn't want to risk being stalled on a busy highway. Dealership just told me I need another engine. First 10,000 miles, my transmission went bad. 20,000 the motor went bad. 28,000 another motor. Instead of fixing the problem they just replace parts.
At 60,079 miles (just after reaching the 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty limit) received message on dash indicating reduced acceleration accompanied by the check engine light. Message would clear after the truck was restarted. Message came back occasionally over the next few months. After checking the codes I found a P0747 code indicating a problem with the transmission valve body: solinoid A stuck on. I opted to fix it myself by installing a valve body upgrade kit from NextGen Drivetrain. GM valve body is worthless. A $70,000+ truck should be more reliable. Thank you to NextGen Drivetrain for a real solution where GM failed. GM should pay.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate suddenly opened independently. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the electric tailgate release. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 52,000.
Loss of motor power due to engine loss. Electronics not functioning properly. Was in danger on an interstate when motor failed to work. I had no warning lights that anything was wrong with the vehicle. Engine failure was not detected until vehicle was towed to the dealership.
We have had several issues with our vehicle from early ownership, such as, (1) signal light goes from very fast blinking to working. We have taken it to the dealership and are told they cannot duplicate the issue. It seems to correct itself when you turn off the truck and turn it back on. (2) the digital screen about the steering wheel where all all your gauges are have gone completely black. I took it to the dealership and was told that they had to keep the truck until they could duplicate the issue, but again, turning off and then turning it back on seemed to help. Sometimes it works on the first restart, and others it takes a few times and longer times between restarts. (3) OnStar has stopped communicating with my vehicle about a year, year and half in. (4) Google maps has never worked. (5) Remote starts works sometimes. (6) Auto-shut off works sometimes. (7) Air Conditioner started having issues last summer. We have to turn off and on the vehicle or rev up the engine so that it will kick in. This works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. (7) ESC and traction control lights came on, the truck starts shaking, and brakes locked. Truck had to be towed to nearest dealership. The truck only had 12K miles when this happened. (8) Around the same mileage, an injector had to be replaced. (9) Now at 52K miles, we have the ESC, traction control, and check engine light again. Truck is shaking, feels like the gears are slipping when you press on gas, and has white smoke coming from the mufflers. These issues have been report to both local dealership and GM corporate office. these issues have left us stranded 300 miles from home and has left us without air conditioner in 3-digit weather when we had our grandbaby with us.
The vehicle shut down while driving and would not restart. While driving it I got an odd error message then it went into neutral on it's own then as soon as I stopped to park it shifted itself to park and would not move. Thankfully I was in a parking lot and safe, otherwise it could have been catastrophic on a highway. AAA came and replaced the battery, which did not help. They tried to shift it into neutral so that it could be put on the flatbed but it would not shift. They finally were able to tow it on a dolly using a regular tow truck. Dealership inspected it and found metal in the oil indicating the need for a new motor. It is under warranty but it's going on 2 weeks and we still don't have an ETA on an engine. It's a 2022 Chevy Silverado, 6.2L with 36,000 miles. I cannot get a return call from the dealership GM.
Was on a trip 6hrs from home when the truck began to have a pecking noise. The truck suddenly lost power. There wasn’t a shoulder to pull onto so there I sat in the middle of the road waiting on a toll truck. Had the vehicle towed to a dealership where they informed me the engine was locked up. Had to get a rental to get home.
Electrical Component failure in the tailgate handle causes the tailgate to come open at anytime during driving. Also the malfunction causes your battery to go dead
Truck started making noise from under the hood and lost power at the stop sign near our house. I was able to get it restarted and drive it 50 yards to my driveway. I had it towed to Galles Chevrolet the next day. I have waited 3 weeks now to get word from the dealer. I was able to finally speak with a service advisor this morning who told me that they suspect the engine has failed. They have yet to tear it down and cannot recommend me for a rental till they order the parts. They assured that they would get to it by 4/8/25 at the latest.
- Failed Engine Coolant Control Valve, it was made available for inspection at a Chevy and GMC dealership - Failure of this part puts my family and other drivers at risk especially when towing our camper in the mountains of Colorado. The engine goes into "low power mode" which creates the possibility of overheating while driving and the coolant circulation to operate not as intended in the design of the vehicle. - Yes, the dealership was able to reproduce the condition and is sitting at the dealership now for 44 days as it is been considered "not drivable". - Yes, the dealership has been inspected by Emich Chevrolet in Lakewood, CO. - The check engine light did come on and produced GM code P1098. The engine goes into low power mode where the fans are on high and tells you to be careful when driving the vehicle. It first appeared in March 2024, the vehicle only has ~22,000 miles on it, bought new from the dealer.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, and while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the tailgate opened inadvertently. Additionally, when the vehicle was parked, the contact observed that the tailgate had opened, and the vehicle would not start due to a drained battery. The contact believed that the tailgate failure had drained the battery. The contact then removed the rear panel off the tailgate and unhooked the switch to stop the tailgate from draining the battery. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 52,000.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the message "Shift to Neutral and Restart Engine" was displayed, and the vehicle started to lose automotive power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who diagnosed that the engine rod bearings had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.
These truck have issue they will not shift to park and will give drive a warning of not in park when the vehicle is in park not allowing fully shutoff and killing battery. I have taken truck to dealer and was advise this is a know issue.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the gear shifter was stuck in park(P). The contact stated that after the vehicle was parked, the gear shifter remained stuck in park(P). The contact stated that the message to “Shift to Park(P) was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that after several minutes, the message and an abnormal sound had disappeared. The vehicle was taken to an independent dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the wiring on the gear shifter had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that a representative would provide a callback. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
See attached document for complaint.
I received an email from OnStar Notifications on February 22, 2025 at 3:54 am stating my truck had 5% oil life remaining. I have had my oil changed at every required time with the required type of engine oil. I had my oil changed on February 22, 2025 at 3:33 pm. The oil change technician stated that no oil showed on the dip stick. Anytime I have my oil changed, I always check the dipstick to make sure the oil is registering where it should be on the dipstick. It has always been correct. No low oil light warning has ever came on. I looked up to see if these engines were having any issues and found that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has an open investigation on their website posted on January 17, 2025 regarding the 2019 – 2024 model years GM 6.2L V8 engine failures based on complaints of bearing failure – resulting in either engine seizure or breaching of the engine block by the connecting rod. The complaints also stated that there is no detectability prior to the failure. I purchased this vehicle brand new in 2022. I am very frustrated because now I have to worry about my vehicle seizing up while driving and possibly causing an accident and even worse someone getting hurt due to this vehicle issue. I would like to know what is going to be done to correct this issue.
Tailgate got water in it. Continues to open repeatedly, user cannot stop it. Same part is recalled on 2500 HD and 3500 HD models. However, Silverado 1500 models (with the same tailgate switch part) are not currently covered by recall. This results in dead battery, open tailgate on the road - and contents of bed spilling onto highway. Vehicle further stalls due to electrical draw, causing total loss of usage, including brakes, steering, etc. I have video of the tailgate triggering and opening on its own.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While the contact’s brother was driving approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle suddenly stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The cause of the engine failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. The VIN was not available.
At ~51,000 miles, my 2022 Silverado Trail Boss 6.2L L87 experienced a sudden engine failure while on / exiting the highway. The engine began shaking violently, the check engine light flashed, and it lost all power without warning. It was towed and remained out of service for 28 days. The dealer diagnosed lifter delamination, a scored camshaft, and scored cam, main, and rod bearings. Metal shavings were found in the engine, indicating internal contamination. Despite the severity, the manufacturer approved only an engine overhaul, not a full replacement. The service manager stated, “it’s nearly impossible to get these motors,” pointing to a national shortage due to widespread failures of the 6.2L engine platform. After picking up the vehicle, I immediately noticed a rattling noise from underneath. I returned to the dealer (who also failed to recharge the AC system). They traced the noise to the catalytic converter and muffler and quoted $2,709.24 to replace the full exhaust system. The manufacturer refused to cover the repair, even though the issue appeared immediately after the engine failure. The dealer did not confirm the exact cause, but possible contributing factors include combustion instability, engine misfires, unburned fuel, and extreme vibration during the failure. These conditions can severely impact the exhaust system and emissions components. I was quoted nearly $4,000 for an extended warranty, which I now feel pressured to buy due to loss of confidence in the engine. Metal debris may have affected the oiling system, injectors, or other critical parts. This raises serious safety concerns: sudden power loss at highway speed, compromised emissions components, and the risk of future failures. With the 6.2L under NHTSA investigation, I believe this incident supports further review or recall.
Vehicle Message "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" . My car then ran like it was in 1st gear for my drive home. Next morning couldn't go into reverse so I had to have my buddy help me tow it. Went to the dealer and they said that it's "an ongoing issue with GM that they haven't addressed with several vehicles and the part (Valve Body) is on backorder with no ETA. With this horrible safety issue you would think GM would just take the hit and change out the entire transmission instead of making people wait so long without their vehicles.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after coming to a stop, the check engine warning light illuminated while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact continued to depress the accelerator pedal and the vehicle shuddered with the "Reduced Acceleration Drive with Care" message displayed on the instrument panel. The failure persisted, and the contact drove the vehicle to an independent mechanic. The mechanic used a code reader, which showed that a bolt on the timing belt gear had scraped the engine block which caused metal shavings to enter the engine. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and the contact was provided with an estimate for a new engine. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
Engine bearing failure
I have a 22 5.3L V8 trail boss 86k miles was running great prior.Truck gears started slipping and was able to get it home. Started the next day and check engine light came on and no reverse. Was able to get it to the dealership with the reduced engine power warning. I dropped it off Friday 2/21 and was immediately diagnosed with the bad valve body issue/code. Service was very vague with me at first and gave me 2 options Valve body replacement with an estimate of $3100.00 or a full transmission of $8,000.00. No mention if this was common when asked. Makes sense as to why they did not drop the pan when I asked if they checked the fluid. If this is a common issue I feel as they were trying to lure me into a new transmission for the extra money. That doesnt give me a great feeling with the dealership or chevy in general. I went with the valve body replacement and he said he would order the parts. I called this past week just for an update and asked about parts and then they alluded that they were on backorder from GM not another dealership and he thought he mentioned that. There is no way to track the parts? No loaners available I rely on my truck a lot for work and transporting my family of 4 around. Not very optimistic after reading thats this is a major problem. Has anyone else experienced the brevity when asking for answers? Has anyone else had to pay for this out of pocket? Im expecting the worst and hoping for the best but not really sure where to go from here other than wait.
