There are 31 owner-reported electrical system complaints for the 2024 Chevrolet Silveradoin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
On 04/16/2026, while driving, vehicle received and completed a software/firmware OTA update. A second update completion prompt was received while still in motion. Shortly after, while stopped at a traffic light, the auto-start/stop system re-engaged and the vehicle appeared to restart normally. Upon stopping to refuel, remote key fob auto-start failed to respond. Vehicle was started manually and driven to the next location. On arrival, remote key fob auto-start failed again. Used interior push-to-start — vehicle started but displayed an active Check Engine Light. Connected vehicle app diagnostic scan of the Engine and Transmission System returned two WARNING flags requiring service: - Transmission System — Schedule Service Now - Engine Electrical System including Charging and Starting System — Schedule Service Now All other scanned systems (Air Induction, Fuel Management, Engine Cooling, Throttle Control, Ignition, Variable Valve Timing, 4WD, Displacement on Demand) returned OK. Both faults appeared immediately following the OTA update. Remote start failure at two consecutive locations and the Check Engine Light activation are directly correlated in timing with the update applied on 04/16/2026. No fault codes have been pulled yet — dealership service appointment pending. This is not the first instance of an issue after updates are applied, between the infotainment system blacking out, rear camera or ADAS not functioning as well as sporadic crackling sound almost like electricity arcing in the engine compartment near the steering column
I am writing to report a serious safety concern involving my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado that resulted in a child being locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside the car. On March 25 2026, after parking and turning off the vehicle, I exited the driver’s seat with my key fob inside my purse, which remained in the front of the vehicle. I then walked around to remove my daughter from the back seat. During that time, she climbed into the front seat and pressed the interior door lock button, locking all doors. My daughter has autism and is not able to follow instructions or unlock the vehicle on command. As a result, she was locked inside the vehicle with the key fob present inside, and I was unable to gain access from the outside. The vehicle did not prevent the lock from engaging, nor did it allow me to open the door despite the key being inside the vehicle. This situation required emergency assistance (911) to safely remove her from the vehicle. I understand that many vehicles have “lockout prevention” features; however, in this case, the system did not account for a vulnerable occupant inside the vehicle. Allowing the vehicle to be locked from the interior while the key fob is inside—and without any external override—creates a significant child safety risk. I am requesting that Chevrolet review this design behavior as a potential safety issue, specifically: - Why the vehicle allows interior locking when a key fob is detected inside - Why there is no external override to unlock the vehicle when the key is present - Whether a software update or safety feature enhancement can address this risk This is not just a convenience issue—it is a safety hazard that can lead to dangerous outcomes, especially for children or individuals with disabilities. Please confirm receipt of this concern and advise whether this issue has been previously identified or is under review.
The tailgate has opened 4 times while I’ve been driving. There was one incident in which an object in the truck bed fell out onto the road. Other drivers are at risk for serious injury or death due to objects falling out. I have read other incidents of this happening online to the Silverado 1500 models however Chevy has only issued recalls for the 2500 and 3500 models. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer and they will be inspecting it in the next coming days. There were no warning lamps or messages indicating failure or that my tailgate was open. I’ve provided photo documentation showing me closing the tailgate as well as a photo of the object falling onto the road.
The dealership has informed me that the Radio Control Module of the vehicle needs to be replaced. The infotainment center which contains the backup camera is no longer functioning.
It was down pouring, I needed to pull over. The electronic buttons below the big display which included the HAZARD LIGHTS FAILED to respond. A symptom was the fan speed on the display would also not disappear. The dealership said maybe it was in the middle of an update. After she rebooted it worked again.
We have had four previously documented issues with the electrical, brake and engine in our truck. Today, we were advised by the dealer that the truck had been fixed, and a new ECM had been installed. They advised they drove the truck for 100 miles and there were no issues. We picked the truck up and on the way home, while on the highway, the truck went into low power mode, the brakes went out, the check engine light and slip light came on. The dash began flashing detection warning lights (see attached photos): Brake system failure 62 MPH top speed, Service steering column lock, Reduced Acceleration drive with care, Service ESC, Service traction control. We immediately turned around and went back to the dealership and showed them what was going on. They took photographs and had the technician come out to look at the vehicle. He looked at the lights and codes and admitted he does not know what is going on. The service manager said that the company representative was coming tomorrow (10/21/25) and that he was going to speak with him and recommend a buyback. We left the truck with the dealer and were given a loaner car. This is the 5th incident with the same issues.
07/28/2025 10:35am, We had just pulled onto an Interstate ramp and the engine powered down and the dashboard began flashing errors, service engine soon light came on. The following errors were displayed: Reduce speed to 62 mph, brake system failure, Service traction control, Service ESC, Service steering column lock, Trailer brakes disabled service required. I had no brakes and had to pump them to get stopped. I was able to pull to the side of the road and shut off the engine. I called dealer and reported issue as this occurred last Tuesday. They advised to bring the vehicle in at 0800 tomorrow. I restarted the vehicle and system reset and I was able to continue. At 12:58pm, I pulled off the interstate ramp onto a county road and the engine powered down again and displayed the same errors. The brakes did not fail this time and I was able to get home.
There is no sound from the entertainment system, this happens randomly about once a week. The Safty concern is that when this happens there is no sound for anything including directionals, other warnings and this can cause a Safty issue. The only way to have the system work again is to shut the vehicle off for ten minutes and restart. My vehicle has had the software updated at the dealership about every three months since I purchased it, and to no avail.
I purchased the Curt Triflex Next Trailer Brake Controller GM Part # 19435732 ( Although may be sold through several part #s) from Jim Norton Chevrolet as this is a GM recommended part through the GM parts catalog and is plug and play with included wiring harness making simple no wire splicing connection. The brake controller we need to tow or travel trailer it worked great for about a month maybe two , then I went to hook up our trailer and the brake controller would not function. So I had a electrician trouble shoot the power and all that checked out good. I contacted CURT for a warranty claim and they stated this is a known issue and they are sending me a new one and I did respond that's spooky what if I was towing and it stops controlling. this could lead to a serious safety issue. I unplugged and it and plugged back in and it started working then stopped again before the next weekend to pull my trailer. again Curt stated via email this is a known issue and sending me a new one when they are in stock , but I had not heard this until I contacted them for warranty claim and still have not received a replacement.
I was going 70 in the fast lane on [XXX] near birmingham, Al; when my 2024 Silverado lost propulsion, electrical and power steering. I was forced to move 3 lanes over to the emergency lane or wreck off to the left. When it lost propulsion i lost turn signals and power steering. They are going to attempt to fix it, but engines are on backorder. Regardless if it is fixed, the thing almost killed me. There's no way I'm going to be driving that thing. This issue was confirmed at the dealership and no warning lights came up on the screen prior to losing propulsion. Truck will randomly throw codes for service 4wd and forward collision unavailable, rear cross traffic unavailable, lane departure will not work, auto high beams not work, and if parked position truck will not release Park brake making truck unable to be moved. Truck has been in and out of certified dealer 3 times and problems still occurring at random. Dealer has stated they are not able to duplicate issues and can't do anything. Issues happening pose risk while driving when codes come on making all standard safety features not to work in event of a accident. Also making truck not mobile when Park brake sets in event of accident.
The entire camera safety system is glitchy. Whether backing up or not, the side, front, back and top view camera system intermittently works then doesn’t, going days on end without working.
the digital speedometer disappears randomly as do other visual features of the driver information area the trucks auto lock feature randomly docent lock the truck or unlocks the truck when unattended
There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( Speedometer or Tachometer.) The overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.
I was taking a left from a stop sign onto a busy boulevard and as soon as I had passed the median I started losing acceleration and it felt like the transmission or engine was glitching or lugging. The engine began to try restarting itself possibly from the auto start-stop however I was now almost at a dead stop in the left hand lane in the dark. I promptly attempted to turn my hazards on, but they would not turn on while it was trying to start so I held the brake pedal down for light. I tried to turn the truck off and turn it back on however the hazards still did not work, none of the gauges went off when the truck was turned off, IE gas and voltage gauges were stuck. After attempting to put it into park and drive a few times I was finally able to turn the truck off, open the door and close it. At this point I was finally able to get the hazards turned on, however, it seemed like they would not stay on when the truck was trying to start so I could get out of the left hand lane. Fortunately someone stopped and we were able to push the truck off onto the median. After about a dozen attempts, the truck finally started, with the last attempt pumping the gas repeatedly for about twenty seconds. I drove hit for another twenty minutes and it drove okay with the engine light on. Onstar diagnostics mentioned possible fuel pump relay. I will note I did test drive a same year GMC equivalent model, and as the dealer went to gas it up, it would not start again. It ended up being the fuel pump relay.
I purchased my truck in August of 2024, new off of the lot. Within the first week there was an issue with the infotainment system of the truck with muted all audio. This includes all safety features that have audio alerts, navigation, stereo, blinkers. Anything audio is affected. This has now happened to my tuck 6 times since purchasing it. I have researched this online, and it has been a common issue since at least 2022 with no solution by Chevrolet. I have concerns since this affects all safety features built into the truck.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that after the vehicle was serviced at the local dealer for a manufacturer software update the vehicle's display console began to experience failures causing several safety features to become inoperable. Later, while driving in reverse the vehicle crashed into the pole. During the incident, the collision avoidance feature to alert the driver was not activated. The contact indicated that as the vehicle drove closer to the pole the driver's seat did not vibrate, the audible alarm was not active and the warning message was not displayed to alert the driver of an impending crash into the pole. During the crash, the contact experienced an injured back that did not require medical attention at the time. No police report was filed and the vehicle was driven from the scene. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 10,500.
all camera work off and on had it at dealer 6times cannot fix it
On 10/14/2024, My vehicle got broken into and my gun, magazines, and gun case got stolen. The vehicle alarm system did not go off. This is a safety issue, in addition, it is a manufacturer defect.
The 2024 silverado with 13.4 infotainment system is unpredictable and often looses paring with iphone during driving. This is a major distraction because then to reestablish pairing for directions from apple maps or google maps chevy tells me you need to stop your vehicle. Put it in park. Re-establish pairing, te-enter destination and have it car play. This is 10x more distracting that someone using their phone non hands free. Furthermore gor music it often defaults to sirrus radio and to get itvto am or fm tequires you to step through many buttons on the steering wheel or touch an extremely small button like 3/16” in diameter to change to either am or fm. Again, a huge distraction. My 2016 chevy cruz and 2017 silverado worked flawlessly with out distraction. I talk to many others who have simply given up on using it because its too dangerous to take your eyes off the road to change settings. Im a retires EE and software developer and this is terrible and NTHB should look into it and test drive one for a couple hundred miles. Been buying Chevys since my first car in 1976 and never been disappointed with any till now. GM customer Service on several occasions and local dealer has been no help
