I did a safety recall repair at the GMC Chevrolet dealer in Bloomington, MN per the notice I recieved regarding the front airbag (Takata) (I believe the repair was in October 2022). I did not have a error code before doing the work but since I was traveling thought it best to do before I left. I now have a service airbag for the driver side which has now come on. I spoke to one dealer in another state (I was traveling) and he said that had nothing to do with the recall work that was done and wanted me to come in for a estimate for a possible repair??? Can you please assist me?
When scheduling for airbag recall repair the dealership has informed me that the service may cause the dash to crack or fall in during or after the install. They also advised me that this damage is not covered under the recall warranty. If the dash is not intact that will result in the airbag not being able to properly deploy.
Driving down the beltway at 60 mph and the side curtain airbags deployed with no impact and the seatbelts in the front locked up.
I AM CLAIMING THE CHANGE OF THE AIRBAGS, COULD YOU HELP ME IN THIS MATTER, THANKS IN ADVANCE
I CALLED MY LOCAL GLEN SMITH CHEVY DEALER TO GET MY AIR BAG REPAIRED AFTER RECEIVING NOTICE IN THE MAIL THAT THEY HAD THEM. THEY TOLD ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE THEM AND DIDN'T KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I CALLED THE CHEVY CONSUMER NUMBER AND GOT THE SAME ANSWER. THIS IS THE SAME RUN AROUND IVE BEEN GETTING FOR SEVERAL YEARS WHILE I'M DRIVING A CAR THAT COULD POTENTIALLY HURT OR KILL THE PASSENGER IN THE CAR.... WHY DID THIS GET SENT OUT IF THISDEALERS WONT REPAIR THEM?
MY VEHICLE HAS NOT HAD THE AIRBAGS REPLACED AND I WANT TO KNOW WHEN THAT CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED NOW THAT GM HAS AGREED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS.
TOOK A LEFT TURN WHILE DRIVING, HEARD A SMALL NOISE AND WITH IN ONE MINUTE OF GOING DOWN THE ROAD AFTER MY TURN, MY ENGINE WAS A ROUGH IDLE, ENGINE LIGHT BLINKING AND TRACTION CONTROL WAS BLINKING. HAD IT TOWED TO THE CLOSEST CHEVY DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT THAT THE LIFTERS WERE BAD AND CAUSING MISFIRE. THAT'S A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS ENGINE AND THE REPLACEMENT COST SHOULD NOT BE ON THE CONSUMER, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS COSTLY REPAIR!

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER HAD EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. AN UNKNOWN DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. FOR THE RECALL REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
AIR BAG RECALL STILL DOES NOT HAVE A REMEDY, FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING MY OWN VEHICLE DUE TO AIRBAG RECALL.

I PURCHASED NEW AND AM THE ONLY OWNER OF A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. THIS MODEL IS EQUIPPED WITH A TAKATA AIRBAG THAT THE MANUFACTURER (TAKATA) HAS DEEMED UNSAFE, ESPECIALLY WHERE I LIVE, IN HOT AND HUMID LOUISIANA. I HAVE BEEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES TO ASK IF A REMEDY IS AVAILABLE AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS SAID EACH TIME THAT A FIX IS NOT AVAILABLE. WHY DO SOME MANUFACTURERS RECOGNIZE AND FIX THE ISSUE WHILE OTHERS IGNORE THE ISSUE. IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, OTHER MANUFACTURERS ASK OWNERS NOT TO DRIVE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY. ANY ASSISTANCE IS APPRECIATED.
AIRBAG RECALL, NO REMEDY AVAILABLE; DASHBOARD CRACK.
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN. WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AT 5 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED WHIPLASH, AND INJURIES TO THE LEFT ARM AND BRUISES TO THE CHEST. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS SEATED IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND SUSTAINED BRUISES TO THE CHEST FROM THE SEAT BELT RETRACTING. BOTH OCCUPANTS RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION AND WERE TRANSPORTED VIA AMBULANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE WHERE IT WAS DEEMED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND AN INSPECTOR TO CHECK THE AIR BAGS OF THE VEHICLE, AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 930596. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.

NOTHING HAS HAPPENED, YET. MY 2007 CHEVROLET SUBURBAN HAS THE TAKATA AIR BAGS IN IT. CHEVROLET HAS ASKED FOR A RULING ON INCONSEQUENTIALITY AND THE RULING WAS TO BE DONE BY 2017. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE, AND CHEVROLET HAS DONE NOTHING AS A RESULT. WHEN WILL SOMETHING BE DONE AND BY WHO?
