THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOES NOT WORK - IT CHOKES THE PASSENGER. THE SEAT BELT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE; THE ENTIRE SEAT WAS REPLACED ONCE, BUT IT IS STILL A PROBLEM. WE HAVE A SEAT BELT LAW IN MY STATE, BUT THE SEAT BELT CANNOT BE WORN.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH DRIVER HIT THE BRAKES SUDDENLY AND VEHICLE HIT THE CURB AND ROLLED TWICE. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. PEOPLE WERE EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. AS A RESULT,THEY DIED. *AK
ON AUGUST 3, 2003, CHRISTOPHER MOFFEIT, AUDREY MOFFIET AND THEIR TWIN DAUGHTERS, MACKENZI MOFFIET AND MALLORY MOFFEIT, WERE INVOLVED IN A MOTOR VEHICLE ROLLOVER ACCIDENT WHILE TRAVELING IN THEIR 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE. MACKENZIE AND HER SISTER, MALLORY, WERE SECURELY BUCKLED INTO THEIR CHILD SAFETY SEATS WHICH WERE FASTENED INTO THE BACKSEAT OF THE TAHOE WITH SEATBELTS. FORENSIC EVIDENCE INDICATES THAT THE SEATBELT SECURING MACKENZI'S CHILD SAFETY SEAT RELEASED DURING THE ROLLOVER COLLISION. MACKENZI'S CHILD SAFETY SEAT WAS EJECTED FROM THE TAHOE. AS A RESULT OF THE INJURIES SHE SUSTAINED, MACKENZI PASSED AWAY SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT. FORENSIC EVIDENCE INDICATES THAT THE SEATBELTS OF CHRISTOPHER AND AUDREY ALSO RELEASED DURING THE ROLLOVER COLLISION. BOTH WERE EJECTED AND DIED AUGUST 3, 2003 AS A RESULT OF THE INJURIES THEY SUSTAINED IN SAID ACCIDENT.*AK
I HAVE HAD MY TAHOE IN THE THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. WHERE TO BEGIN. WE HAVE HAD MIDDLE SEAT LATCHES CATCH AND NEED TO BE REPLACED, THE FRONT DASH AND RADIO BUBBLED UP AND PEELED...THAT WAS REPLACED. A COMPONENT IN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED WHEN THE CAR WOULD JUST UP AND DIE EVERYTIME YOU TURNED LEFT. THAT WAS REPLACED. THE BACK WINDOW LATCH BROKE WHILE ON VACATION. IT TOO WAS REPLACED. ALL THE SEAT/SEATBELT RECALLS WERE REPAIRED. THEN ON 5/18/03 OUR POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THEY REPLACED IT ON 5/19/03 AT THE DEALER. WE TOOK IT BACK IN ON 5/30 WITH THE COMPLAINT OF IT STILL NOT "FEELING" RIGHT. IT WAS HARD TO TURN TO THE LEFT. THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM. THEN ON 7/13/03 WHILE DRIVING WITH A CAR FULL OF BOYS, THEN THE CAR DIED AND STARTED ON FIRE. THE 2 MEN, BOTH WHOM HAVE BACKGROUNDS AS MECHANICS THAT HELP ME SAID THAT IT THE UNIVERSAL JOINT ON THE POWER STEERING BOX WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE. ONCE IT RUBBED THRU THE INSULATION THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE. THEY HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE THEY WERE ABLE TO TOW THE CAR BECAUSE EVERYTIME THE WHEEL MOVED A LITTLE IT BEGAN SPARKING AGAIN. ALSO, THEY HAD TO END UP TOWING IT FROM THE FRONT BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN WOULDN'T LOCK UP WHEN THE IGNITION WAS OFF, SO, THEY COULDN'T TOW IT FROM THE BACK.*AK
LIFTATE GLASS SEPARATES FROM HINGES.LOCAL DEALER AND LOCAL GLASS SHOPS SAY THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM. CHEVROLET DENIES EVER HEARING OF THIS TROUBLE. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE BACK WINDOW WOULD HAVE SHATTERED AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THE END RESULT COULD HAVE BEEN. *AK
THE AIR CONDITIONER COMPRESSOR FAILED AFTER ONLY 2 YEARS OF USE. I WAS TOLD BY A LOCAL DEALER THAT THIS WAS A REOCCURING PROBLEM WITH 2001 TAHOES.. *AK
EMERGENCY BRAKES - MISSING PARTS NEW FROM FACTORY. (NON FUNCTIONING) YR AND VEHICLE - 2001 TAHOE 1500 I HAVE ALL RECORDS ON THIS VEHICLE FROM NEW. THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON THIS TRUCK, IS MISSING THE "ACTUATING PIN"(ONE PASSENGER SIDE) WHICH ALLOWS THE BRAKE EMERGENCY SHOE (INSIDE THE ROTOR) TO EXPAND WHEN THE CABLE IS PULLED. THIS CAUSED ONLY ONE REAR WHEEL TO WORK, ......WEARING OUT THE SHOE AND SCORING THE ROTOR..............(THE OTHER ROTOR AND SHOE ARE STILL NEW). SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 36,600 MILES, IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS HOW MANY OTHER, TAHOE, SUBURBAN ETC. ARE MISSING "ACTUATING PINS" INSIDE THE ADJUSTER, RENDERING IT USELESS. IN THE CASE OF A BRAKE FAILURE, THE E-BRAKES WOULD BE USELESS. THIS HAS BEEN THIS WAY SINCE NEW......I HAVE THE DIAGRAMS FROM GM SHOWING THE MISSING PART, AND PHOTOS OF MY BRAKES WITH THE MISSING PART (PLEASE NOTE THE PART IS INSIDE AN ENCLOSED PISTON........NOT ABLE TO GET LOST, ALSO ONE SHOE IS COMPLETELY GONE THE OTHER IS STILL NEW. *JB
2001, CHEV TAHOE, 28000 MI BRAKES SQUEAL. HAVE TAKEN THE TAHOE TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES SINCE PURCHASE. FINALLY TOOK IT TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC AND HE AGREES THAT THERE IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES MECHANICALLY EXCEPT THE LOUD SQUEAL. I AM TOLD THAT I CAN REPLACE THEM IF I WANT TO GET RID OF THE SQUEAL, BUT I DON'T THINK I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO REPLACE THE BRAKES SINCE THEY SOLD THE VEHICLE TO ME WITH A SQUEAL. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 5 DAYS OLD THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. *JB
I TOOK MY 2001 CHEVY TAHOE TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO FIX A STICKING GAS PEDAL. SINCE THE VEHICLE IS UNDER THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY (3 YR/36,000 MILE), I SHOULD NOT INCUR THE COST OF REPAIR. AND WITH ONLY 25,000 MILES, A STICKING GAS PEDAL IS NOT NORMAL. HOWEVER, CHEVROLET/GM DOES NOT AGREE (PLEASE SEE EMAIL TRAFFIC). I FEEL THAT THIS "CARBON BUILDUP" IS A KNOWN DEFECT AND A SAFETY ISSUE - NOT A NORMAL EMISSIONS OPERATION. COULD YOU PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER? ROCHA ADVISED US THAT IN THE OWNERS MANUAL, UNDER THE SECTION OF MAINTENANCE SERVICES, IT SPECIFICALLY STATES AT 15,000 MILES THAT THE VEHICLE MAY REQUIRE EMISSIONS SERVICE AND THEN POSSIBLY AGAIN AT 30,000 MILES. MS. ROCHAS STATES THAT THE STICKING PEDAL IS DUE TO CARBON BUILD UP FROM GASOLINE AND IS DEEMED NORMAL MAINTENANCE AND IS PART OF THE EMISSIONS SERVICE. THE EMERGENCY BREAK WENT OUT (WHICH MADE A METAL TO METAL NOISE ALL TIMES WHEN THE SUV IS MOVING) CAUSING THE REAR BRAKE TO GO OUT. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE DEALER ON PREVIOUS OCCASIONS AND THEY STATED THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THEREFORE IF THEY LOOK IT WILL COST ME. THE DEALER STATED I DROVE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHICH CAUSED THE BRAKE TO GO OUT, WHICH IS UNTRUE. I WENT TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THIS SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. AFTER SPEAKING WITH OTHER GMC / CHEVROLET OWNERS THEY ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES WITH THE E BRAKE GOING OUT, ALL HAVE HAD THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERS.. *NLM

THE VEHICLES ABS MODULE FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. *AK *CB *NLM
THE CONSUMER TRIED AT LEAST 10-12 CAR SEATS AND NONE OF THEM FIT IN THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A LOT OF PLAY IN THEM. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE POLICE DEPT AND THEY COULD NOT GET THE SEAT TO FIT PROPERLY EITHER. *JB

IN 2002 MY 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE (@7800 MILES)EXPERIENCED A TOTAL (BOTH SIDES)SIDEWALL FAILURE ON ONE OF THE FIRESTONE WILDERNESS LE TIRES. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH YOU AT THAT TIME. I HAD 2 QUESTIONS; 1- WERE THERE ANY OTHER REPORTS OF SUCH CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THIS TIRE? 2- ARE THESE TIRES SAFE? I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM YOUR AGENCY! LAST WEEK ANOTHER ONE OF THESE TIRES (@28,500 MILES)FAILED(ONE SIDE WALL COMPLETELY CAME APART).SO, I GUESS THAT ANSWERS QUESTION#2. I'VE SURVIVED 2 OF THESE FAILURES NOW WHILE MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN LESS FORTUNATE AND FIRESTONE AND GM RAKE IN THE $. ON 04-17-03 I WENT OUT TO DRIVE MY 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE. AS I BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE STREET THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND THE BATTERY INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. AS THE VEHICLE ROLLED, I WAS ABLE TO GET IT OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD OUT OF TRAFFIC . I ATTEMPTED TO START IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE NOTICING THAT GAS WAS COMING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH THE DRIVERS AREA AND WAS POURING ONTO THE GROUND. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE GAS LINE BECAME DISCONNECTED. I HAD JUST LEFT MY SON IN SURGERY AND WAS TO COME BACK TO PICK HIM AND MY WIFE UP. THIS INCIDENT COULD HAVE BECOME VERY BAD AND KILLED MYSELF AND POSSIBLY MY FAMILY HAD THEY BEEN IN THE VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND ACTION TAKEN. IN THE PAST I ALONG WITH MY WIFE HAVE REPORTED VEHICLE PROBLEMS TO THE DEALER WITH THEM TAKING LITTLE TO NO ACTION. PLEASE HELP ALSO THE STEERING APPEARS TO BE BECOMING A PROBLEM. *JB
I NOTICED, SEARCHING ON THE NHTSA HOME PAGE THAT THERE ARE 2 RECALLS ON MY 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE I DON'T KNOW ABOUT AND MY QUESTION IS HOW I CAN GET THESE PROBLEMS WHIT MY CAR FIXED SINCE I NEVER RECEIVED ANY RECALL NOTICES ON MY CAR AND I FEAR IT CAN CAUSE ME A BIGGER PROBLEM OR FATALITY CAN YOU SEND ME INFORMATION HOW TO PROCEED OR IF I NEED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT IT TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT MY CONCERN FOR THIS SAFETY PROBLEM. 2001 CHEVROLET TAHOE, ONLY 51,000 MILES AND ACCELERATOR STICKS WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. HAD IT REPAIRED TODAY AT DEHAVEN CHEVROLET. THEY HAD A SERVICE BULLETIN ON IT AND REPAIRED IT AT A COST OF $193.59, BUT TRUTHFULLY $139.95 DIRECTLY RELATED. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM SHOULD NOT HAPPEN SO SOON IN A VEHICLES LIFE, AND IS SO SAFETY RELATED, THAT CHEVROLET SHOULD REPAIR UNDER A RECALL, OR AT THEIR EXPENSE. I'VE NEVER HAD A STUCK ACCELERATOR PROBLEM AND I AM GLAD THE KIDS, AND MY WIFE MENTIONED IT. IT DID STICK ON ONCE OR TWICE. I HAD FIXED WITHIN 2 DAYS. *NLM
ALL 4 TIRES WERE DRY ROTTED AND CONTAINED STRESS MARKS.*JB
DRIVER'S OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR (HEATED AND LIGHT DIMMING) REFLECTED IMAGE IS SEVERELY DISTORTED. THERE HAS BEEN NO DAMAGE TO THE MIRROR, BUT IT IS DISTORTED AND AT NIGHT IT IS VERY HARD TO TELL HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE BEHIND BECAUSE EACH HEADLIGHT APPEARS TO BE 3 OR 4 HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. MY STEP-DAUGHTER BOUGHT A TAHOE FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE AND SHE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH HERS. *JB
2001 TAHOE, EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING. THIS HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, YET. THE STEERING WAS BEGINNING TO GET NOTICABLY LOOSE AROUND 25,000 MILES. WE NOW HAVE 50,000 MI ON THE VEHICLE AND THE PLAY IS GETTING WORSE. THE WHEELS WILL CATCH IN ANY IMPERFECTIONS IN THE ROAD AND JERK THE VEHICLE THAT DIRECTION REQUIRING THE DRIVER TO OVERSTEER TO CORRECT. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES IN THE PAST 2 YEARS TO TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAY THERE IS NOTHING LOOSE. I SUSPECT THAT IT IS IN THE STEERING BOX ITSELF AND CHEVROLET IS UNWILLING TO ADMIT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND MUST BE FIXED. ANY SUPPORT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. BOTH BRAKE LINES TO THE REAR WHEELS HAVE CRACKED, LEAVING ME WITH NO BRAKES AFTER THE FLUID LEAKED OUT. PEBBLES CONTINUALLY GET WEDGED BETWEEN THE REAR CALIPERS AND WHEEL RIMS, CAUSING WHEEL LOCKUP, AND SCOURING OF THE ALUMINUM RIMS AND ROTORS. THE RIGHT REAR TOP CALIPER BOLT FELL OUT, ALLOWING THE CALIPER TO ROTATE FORWARD AND LOCK UP THE WHEEL. I WAS TOLD THAT THESE VEHICLES WERE NOT DESIGNED TO TRAVEL ON A GRAVEL LANE, BUT WHERE WEST OF THE MISSISSIPPI ARE THERE NOT GRAVEL LANES? THIS IS A VERY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM , AND DEALERS IN RANCHING COUNTRY ARE GETTING A FLOOD OF COMPLAINTS, AND HAVE EVEN DESIGNED ROCK SHIELDS FOR THE REAR DISC BRAKES. IT IS A VERY LARGE SAFETY PROBLEM, FOR IF THE BRAKES DO NOT COMPLETELY FAIL THEY ARE IMPAIRED DUE TO SCOURED ROTORS, ETCHED WHEELS, AND DETERIORATED PADS. *JB
CONSUMER NOTICED ACID ON TOP OF THE BATTERY PLATE.*JB
IMMEDIATELY AFTER APPLICATION OF THE ANTI-LOCH BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS IN 2 WHEEL HIGH MODE, THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO "LOCK UP" THE WHEELS AS IF IT WERE IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. WE GET SEVERE WHEEL HOP AND WHEN WE STOP THE VEHICLE, THEN RESTART IT THERE IS A VERY LOUD CLUNKING SOUND. AFTER THAT THE VEHICLE PREFORMS NORMALLY. THE PROBLEM ALSO GOES AWAY IF THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE GOES INTO 4 WHEEL AUTO, 4 WHEEL LOW AND 2 WHEEL HIGH NORMALLY AT ALL OTHER TIMES. AGAIN, THE PROBLEM ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS (NO PROBLEM FROM HIGH SPEED STOPS) AND IT HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST 5 MINTHS.

THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON THIS CAR AND OTHER MODELS (SUBURBAN) IS FAULTY. REGARDLESS OF USE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEEDS ADJUSTED EVERY 15-20K MILES.(RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALER). THE NEW EMERGENCY BRAKE DESIGN DOES NOT USE THE NORMAL REAR BRAKE PADS..IT HAS ITS OWN SEPERATE BRAKE PAD INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL. THIS "EMERGENCY" PAD BURNS OUT REGARDLESS OF USE. A CHEVROLET MECHANIC AND DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THIS IS A FAULTY SYSTEM AND THAT I WILL NEED TO RETURN EVERY 15-20 K MILES TO HAVE APPROXIMATELY $130 OF WORK DONE TO ADJUST IT...EVEN IF I DIDN'T USE IT. THIS IS A HORRIBLE DESIGN AND I WISH CHEVROLET WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BAD ENGINEERING AND FAULTY SYSTEM.
ABS BRAKE MODULE. LOW TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING, AND DRAINS THE BATTERY. VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED TWICE . COST COVERED THE FIRST TIME AND GM PAID HALF FOR LAST REPAIR.*AK
AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING A SIDE IMPACT. HE SAYS HE DOES NOT KNOW WHERE THE AIR BAG SUPPOSE TO DEPLOY, BECAUSE THE B PILLAR IS RESTING AGAINST THE SIDE AIR BAG. HE WANTS TO KNOW IF THE B PILLAR IS SHOVED AGAINST THE SIDE OF THE AIR BAG WHERE IS THE AIR BAG SUPPOSE TO GO WHEN IT DEPLOYS. TS

NHTSA#01-V-159-000: RETRACTORS FOR THE 2ND AND 3RD ROW OF SEATS THAT COULD BE CRACKED. CONSUMER HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDE IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN#. DEALER NOTIFIED. PH
IT HAD BEEN RAINING SLIGHTLY AND AS I ATTEMPTED TO USE AN EXIT RAMP FROM THE HIGHWAY MY ANTILOCK BRAKES FAILED I SKIDDED AND SPUN AND ENDED UP HITTING THE CONCRETE BARRIER WHICH DID NOT MAKE MY AIRBAGS DEPLOY EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HIT HARD ENOUGH TO BEND THE FRAME OF THE FRONT END BY AN INCH AND A HALF
CONSUMER STATED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING FROM 2ND GEAR TO THE 3RD GEAR. DEALER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND WILL REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION .*JB

SHOULDER RESTRAINT FAILS TO LOCK, IT CONTINUALLY RETRACTS WHILE DRIVER IS WEARING IT. WITH EVERY MOVEMENT SEAT BELT CONTINUES TO TIGHTEN RESTRICTING ANY MOVEMENT OF YOUR UPPER BODY. DRIVER RESTRAINT IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE DRIVER IS FORCED TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER WEAR THE SHOULDER RESTRAINT AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT OR NOT WEAR IT AND BE IN DANGER AS WELL AS BREAKING THE LAW! ALTHOUGH THE RETRACTING MECHANISM SQUEAKS ALL THE TIME, THE RETRACTION DIFFICULTIES ARE INTERMITTENT.
