There are 50 owner-reported brakes complaints for the 2025 Chevrolet Traversein NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
Master cylinder failure at 15,000 miles on 4/13/2026 Safety risk of Potential brake system failure. Taken to dealership on 4/13/2026, as of today 4/16/2026, master cylinder has been replaced but now the vehicle is rejecting the part, per the dealership. ABS light and brake light illuminated at the time of failure. No other car symptoms noted.
Master Brake Cylinder is defective. Multiple caution lights illuminated. (Service ESC, Service Brake Assist, Cruise Control Inoperative) Ed Morse Chevrolet and Brad Deery Motors have both confirmed the brake cyclinder being defective. Ed Morse advised not ordering the same brake cylinder as they are known issues from factory, they advised me to wait for the recall or a re-engineered part to be produced by GM. Brad Deery Motors knew nothing about this and they are currently putting the OEM master brake cylinder back on the car. I believe they are putting a known defective component back on my brand-new vehicle. There is currently a law suit in Pennsylvania. Turned on vehicle on 3/2/2026 and received a message stating "Anti-lock break system failure. Drive slow and stop cautiously." I test drove my vehicle in my local neighborhood and discovered that my brakes were only functioning at about 20% and would only respond if the brake petal was pressed all the way down. My car was towed to the local dealership to be assessed and was determined to need Reservoir 4.651, Cylinder 4.650, and Fluid 8.800 when it was picked up on 3/6/2026. Under further review of this report I came to discover a class action lawsuit for this vehicle make and model relating to cylinder part #85762161. I am unsure if my original part was that part number, but my experience closely mirrors other's that have been reported for the same issue and part repair. The part that was also replaced in my vehicle after the repair was part #85762161. Some individuals in this lawsuit have reported 100% brake failure. I am fearful to continue driving the vehicle knowing that there could still be ongoing issues with the part that directly relates to the brakes.
I was driving at night on a dark road My truck showed “ Brake assist failure. Press hard to brake. Speed limited.” I tried to step on the brakes & the truck didn’t stop. I was able to eventually turn the truck off & when I restarted it was fine. Luckily it wasn’t a busy street or that I didn’t have my 3 kids with me because it could’ve ended differently. I set an appointment at my dealership & when I went to start my truck again 1. It was dead and 2 when I jumped it, that same message popped up again & my truck was towed to the dealership on 2.25 & I haven’t heard back from the dealership since with an update.
I turned my vehicle on and my brakes, ABS, traction control and anti collision lights all came on. Upon research this is a known problem in 2025 and a recall in 2024. It did in fact end up being the master cylinder and brake system that faulted
While driving, ABS, traction control, ESC, forward collision, and AWD alerts were indicated by the car. At the time it had 10 months in service and approximately 12,800 miles accumulated. After 17 days at the dealers service department and a direct call to GM the brake master cylinder and associated components were replaced. I've seen several reports of this generation of Traverse having this same issue for other owners at low mileage. I want to file this report to ensure that NHSTA is aware of this serious safety concern that could result in loss of braking power. It appears to be widespread and not addressed by any recall and dating back to the 2024 model year change to the most recent generation.
While driving on the interstate, the anti-collision system activated when a car swerved in front of the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and resulted in a brake failure after that. All brake warning lights came on the dash, message stating brake failure and drive with caution and limited speed was displayed. Brakes were no longer working properly.
My vehicle experienced a brake system failure that rendered it unsafe to drive and required it to be towed to the dealership. I have been informed by the dealer that the issue involves a failure of the left rear brake caliper. The vehicle is currently out of service at the dealership. Because this issue affects the braking system, it is a significant safety concern.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle shifted into LIMP Mode, causing the vehicle to decelerate unintendedly. During the failure the headlights and the interior lights flashed and flickered, and the ABS, traction control, and several unknown messages were displayed. While depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal extended to the floor and the vehicle failed to immediately stop. The vehicle was later towed to the local dealer who recharged the battery and performed a software update to the Crucial Control Module. The contact stated that three weeks later the same failure had reoccurred. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,995.
The contact owns a 2025 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at 30 MPH on an expressway, occupied with his wife in the vehicle, seated on the front passenger side, attempting to depress the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended, causing the front end of the vehicle to crash with the rear end of the vehicle in front. The contact mentioned that the brake pedal felt abnormally hard and excessive force was applied; however failed to bring the vehicle to a stop, causing the crash. The air bags did deploy. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, the vehicle was then towed to the insurance company. The contact stated she and her husband did not sustain any injuries. No medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 2,000.
Emergency braking occurs at random, even if I'm the only vehicle / object on the roadway. This has been ongoing and has been to the dealership three times. It starts back up each time the vehicle gets an update. Adaptive cruise will brake hard due to false emergency braking, but does not always stop accelerating at the set point (has gone as high as 20 mph over the set point previously and brakes would not respond during). Vehicle was not starting and "press brake to start" warning was showing even though brake pedal was pressed. Brake master cylinder had to be replaced along with brake module. When picking the vehicle up afterward, warning light came while vehicle was warming up "service brake assist" and then shortly after the yellow-circled ABS dashlight came on. Dealership said this was a new problem and separate from the brake master cylinder and brake module.
2025 Traverse ABS brake system failed, and master cylinder broke at 12K. All of the safety features, Lane Departure, Forward Crash detection, blind spot, automatic braking system all stop working with no signs that it was failing! Extremely unsafe! Traverse are meant to be family vehicles, well with major functions failures this kind of problem is going be recipe for disaster if not recalled ASAP.
I started the vehicle to move it to a different place in my driveway and after putting it in reverse, it notified me that the ABS was not working. I could not stop the vehicle without pressing the brakes very hard and even then it was still rolling backward slowly. I quickly put the vehicle in park before the car rolled into my house.
Brakes have squeaked since the day we bought our brand new vehicle. I have contacted the dealers and called corporate. The answer I have received from both is”it is the material they are making the brake pads out of.” We paid over $50,000.00 for our vehicle and do not want to deal with squeaky brakes all the time. They will not do anything about it.
My brakes, abs, front collision, esc light are on and dealership continue to try to fix and no luck. I have take 3 times in the last week with no luck. I need this fixed because I bought for safety features and now I have no vehicle to drive to work.
We drove the car to the store and everything was fine we went in to shop. We came back out and I turned the car on and my dash board had lights on. My brake light will not turn off . My ABS light is on. My forward collision light is on .. I am getting a notice to service ESC, and a separate one saying service brake assist . I ran a onstar diagnostic and it came back everything is good. I have not brought it into the dealership yet for them to look at it I will be calling . I have multiple children and I was so scared my brakes were fulling going to give out on my 20 min drive home. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened we could have hurt someone else on the road and ourselves.
I was driving down the road with my 4 year old son in the back and I went to stop at a stop sign and my car immediately lost brakes, the brakes went down to the floorboard with almost little to no stopping of my car. Then I had 3 warnings on my dashboard I can send pictures of them, my check engine light came on, my abs light came on and my traction control light came on. Very scary and something needs to be done about this
The 2025 Chevy Traverse was purchased on 10/27/25 - new. On the morning of 10/31/25, several lights came on for service such as the brake, ABS, traction control and forward Collison. Through a quick google search, saw there are many issues with the master cylinder leading to brake issues. At this time, the car only has 535 miles. Prior to this incident, the car had no evident issues. I contacted my local dealership to set up an appointment to have the issue assessed and fixed. The appointment is scheduled for 11/5/25. I will not be able to drive the car in the mean time, as it poses a safety concern (brake failure) to my family and myself.
I started my car last Sunday afternoon (10/26/25) and it began to alert me with tones and flashed on my dashboard "Service Brake Assist" and "Service ESC". Prior to that I drove it earlier that morning and it was seemingly working fine. Took it to the dealership the next evening (Monday, 10/27/25)for them to look at the following day (Tuesday, 10/28/25) and was told they were still looking into it. They just contacted me today (Wednesday, 10/29/25) that it is the brake master cylinder that had failed and that I should not drive it and they offered me a rental car.
front collision system failed. ABS and traction control are now failing. My breaks gave out Yes No The failure happened the day the warning lights came on - 10/26/2025
