I BOUGHT A 2011 CHRYSLER 200 SEDAN IN THE SUMMER OF 2021. IN DECEMBER OF2021, I TOOK MY CAR TO A DEALERSHIP BECAUSE MY HEATER DIDN'T WORK. UPON THEIR DIAGNOSIS, THEY SAID I HAD A BAD HEATER CORE. BECAUSE I HAD JUST PURCHASED THE CAR, THEY AGREED TO TAKE OFF $400 OFF THE REPAIR. IT STILL COST ME $1100.00. FAST FORWARD TWO YEARS AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. UNFORTUNATELY, THE WARRANTY EXPIRED 1 MONTH EARLIER. I BELIEVE THIS IS BAD DESIGNED UNIT. UPON RESEARCHING PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, IT COMES UP AS A PRETTY COMMON OCCURANCE. I KNOW THEY DON'T BUILD THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. I BELIEVE CHRYSLER SHOULD'VE COME UP WITH A DESIGN FIX FOR THIS.
I already have a compliant from back in January of 2022 and original incident date of December 2021. I am still having the same issue with the engine stalling while driving. This keeps happening on highways. At this point the government and Chrysler are a joke. This is supposed to be highway safety yet you guys are letting us with Chryslers deal with this and put our life at risk. Not everyone has the ability to have another car to drive, or just has money to trade their vehicle in. I dont get how this "problem" was so called fixed yet EVERYONE IS HAVING THE ISSUE STILL. Wasting thousands of dollar to not find a solution. If something happens to me because of this I promise you I will sue NHTSA and Chrysler Dealer and make sure I make you guys just a miserable as we Chrysler owners are.
The contact owns a 2011 Chrysler 200. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle occasionally failed to start-up as needed. The vehicle was taken to several independent mechanics however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.
On multiple occasions, the car will stall while driving, locking up the whole system and forcing the driver to coast to the side of the road. The car will not restart for 30-40 minutes while you sit stranded on the side of the road. Searches on the car reveal this is not the only one it is happening to. This needs to be investigated as a car stalling on the freeway in 0 degree weather is a major hazard.
My engine is misfiring out of the clear blue. And when I say misfire I mean my vehicle will literally shut off mid-drive as you’re in traffic. Everything completely shuts off and the wheel will lock up. So if you’re not somewhere where you can pull over a pile up will ensue. I have taken it to a shop when the car cut off on the highway for the 3rd with what I thought was the issue. I spent large amounts of money for the shutting off to continue. When I picked it up from the shop the car shut off again about two weeks later or so. I brought it back to the same place and they took my car for the day to see what the issue could be. They gave it back and told me they have no idea why the car keeps shutting off and they have done all they possibly could. This problem could’ve have caused multiple accidents as most of the incidents have resulted of loss of power on the highway. To be going at a steady speed with other cars around you and suddenly shut off can cause everyone including myself to be injured if not worse. This is a common problem among these vehicles as I have read up on and no one has done anything about it. This is scary and something needs to be done. These brand cars are discontinued and I can only imagine why. This is ridiculous that I’m risking my life everyday because I don’t know if this will be the day an accident happens. Consumer stated on Feb 9th at 653am consumer was driving with my 3 year old nephew and the car was completely cut off in the middle of traffic. Unfortunately the car took over 3 hours to decide to start again. Happened again on Feb 17th, 2022.
DRIVING ON THE ROAD IN MOTION, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP WHERE IT STARTED UPON ARRIVAL (APPROX. 1 HOUR). NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME. RAN ENGINE SCAN AND NO CODES CAME UP. DIAGNOSTIC PROVIDED NO INFORMATION. CONDITION COULD NOT BE REPEATED. NOTHING WAS RESOLVED. HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES WHILE IN MOTION OVER THE NEXT 2 MONTHS. SOMETIMES ON THE FREEWAY, SOME ON A ROAD. ALWAYS STARTS AGAIN AFTER 45 MINUTES. HAS BEEN TO MULTIPLE SHOPS WHERE NOTHING IS DIAGNOSED. PROBLEM PERSISTS TO THIS DAY. WE INSTALLED AN ENGINE SCANNER TO DETECT ANY CODES GIVEN WHEN ENGINE QUITE. THE CHRYSLER 200 WILL STALL OUT OF THE BLUE AND THE ENGINE WILL COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITHIN THE PAST MONTH. IT ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET UP ON THE ACCELERATOR. ALL THE TIMES IT HAPPENED WAS WHILE IN THE CITY. IT HAPPENS WHILE ALWAYS IN DRIVE AND ON THE ROAD. 3 TIMES HAD TO GET IT TOWED. AND EVERY TIME AFTER WE GOT IT HOME IT WOULD START UP LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. PLEASE HELP. ITS VERY FRUSTRATING

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. NO DEALER WAS CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS TAKEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 183,790.
THE CAR STALLS WHEN IT SLOWS DOWN OR COMES TO A STOP (FOR EXAMPLE AT A RED LIGHT). SO FAR, IT STARTS UP WITH NO PROBLEM. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS IF IT STALLS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THERE IS NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND DESPITE ATTEMPTING A VARIETY OF FIXES, SO FAR NOTHING HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED LATER THE SAME DAY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR AT SPEEDS OF BETWEEN 15MPL TO 70MPH ON COUNTRY ROADS, HIGHWAYS AND FREEWAYS WHEN THE ENGINE SIMPLY SHUT OFF WITH NO WARNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED 14 TIMES DURING THE LAST EIGHT MONTHS BETWEEN MAY 23, 2018, AND JANUARY 10, 2019, 1/10/19 BEING LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, ALTHOUGH IT HAS HAPPENED 14 TIMES AS INDICATED PREVIOUSLY INDICATED. IT WAS AS IF I HAD SIMPLY TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I HAVE HAD THE CAR INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS TWICE AND NEITHER ME, THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN NOR THE CHRYSLER AGENT THE TECHNICIAN CONTACTED HAS BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE THE COMPONENT PART OR SYSTEM THAT COULD BE THE CAUSE OF THE ENGINE SHUTTING DOWN. ON JANUARY 10, 2019, I WAS TRAVELING ON A BUSY FREEWAY (BELTWAY 8) KN HOUSTON TX AND EXITED THE OFF RAMP ONTO 249 ((TOMBALL PARKWAY) WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED COASTING TO A STOP IN A MOVING LANE OF TRAFFIC WITH CARS, TRUCKS AND 18-WHEELERS PASSING ME AT 50-60MPS. I HAVE ATTACHED A DESCRIPTION OF EACH TIME THE ENGINE STALLED AND REPAIRS THAT WERE DONE AND THE WORK THAT WAS DONE ON THE CAR.

THE ENGINE DIED WHEN IDLE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THIS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN FRONT OF A RAILROAD TRACK. I WAS VERY AFRAID THAT THAT CAR WOULD NOT START. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AFTER I HAD CALMED MYSELF. THIS IS IS VERY DANGEROUS SO I TOOK IT TO HAVE DIAGNOSTICS PERFORMED AT DEALER. THE VEHICLE REPORT SHOWED NO COMPUTER CODES INDICATING FAILURE.
AFTER 5 YEARS, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A STAR ISSUE ON THIS CAR WITH CASTING SAND CONTAMINATING THE RADIATOR, COOLING AND HEATING SYSTEMS. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE ME $2200 TO FIX EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE SINCE BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR. IT CAME OUT IN FEBRUARY 2011. STAR ISSUE S1109000002. FIRST MY AC DID NOT WORK. THE DEALER REPLACED. THEN MY HEAT DID NOT WORK BUT DEALER SAID IT WAS CONTAMINATED WITH CASTING SAND AND IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IT IS NOT FAIR THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY BUT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT REPAIR IF CONTAMINATED. THIS IS A KNOWN CHRYSLER PROBLEM FROM THE GET GO BUT NOT QUITE A RECALL. NOW PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO SELL 5 YEAR OLD CARS FOR PARTS ONLY. THERE WILL BE CERTAIN DEATHS FROM THIS ISSUE WHEN THE ENGINE EVENTUALLY SEIZES UP FROM ALL THIS CONTAMINATION AND CAUSES CRASHES. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT THE FIX ACTUALLY DOES NOT REALLY FIX THE CAUSE. IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! I SAID WHY DOESN'T THE DEALERSHIP PUT IN THE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE SUGGESTED IN THE STAR ISSUE AND HE SAID BECAUSE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN TO EVERY CAR. SO BEWARE BUYING A 2011 CHRYSLER 200 BECAUSE IT IS BASICALLY A FIVE YEAR CAR PERIOD. THE STAR ISSUE NUMBER S1109000002 IS CAUSING ENGINES TO SEIZE UP DUE TO LARGE CONTAMINATION THROUGHOUT THE HVAC SYSTEM, RADIATOR, AND ENGINE AS IT SPREADS INTO EVERYTHING. IT IS LIKE DRIVING A TICKING TIME BOMB THAT HAS NO HEAT! IT HAS NOT BEEN A SAFETY PROBLEM YET BUT AS THESE VEHICLES GET TO BE MY MILEAGE, THESE ISSUES CAN BECOME QUITE SERIOUS, PARTICULARLY IF THEY DO NOT HAVE IT MONITORED BY A DEALER AND THE ENGINE JUST FREEZES ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE IT IS COMPLETELY CONTAMINATED WITH SAND. I PAID $30,000 FOR A FIVE YEAR CAR AND DEALER WILL NOT HONOR EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I MUST DRIVE A CAR THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ANYMORE.
