ON DEC 19, 2008 MY 2004 PACIFICA STARTED STALLING WHEN DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, IT DID THIS APPROXIMATELY (20) TIMES IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I WOULD PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND SOME TIMES IT WOULD START UP IMMEDIATELY AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD DELAY BY SEVERAL MINUTES. I DROVE THE CAR TO MY MECHANICS; WHICH WAS CLOSED, AND LEFT IT THERE, THE NEXT DAY IT WOULD NOT ACT UP FOR HIM AND HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC THAT SHOWED HIM NOTHING. ALTHOUGH HE DID FIND A RECALL ON THE PCM NEEDING REPROGRAMMED FOR STALLING ISSUES. WE THEN TOOK IT TO SHUMAN CHRYSLER IN WALLED LAKE, MI. AND DROPPED IT OFF. THEY REPLACED THE SOLENOID AND CONFIRMED THAT THE REPROGRAMMING WAS DONE PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM. COST WAS $237.50. ON CHRISTMAS EVE ON A BUSY ROAD THE CAR STALLED OUT AGAIN, AND TOOK SEVERAL ATTEMPTS BEFORE IT KEPT RUNNING. HERE WE WERE SITTING IN A DEAD CAR, ON ONE OF THE MOST WIDELY KNOWN EVENINGS WITH DRUNKS ON THE ROAD. WE PROCEEDED TO OUR DESTINATION AND AT THE END OF THE EVENING WE HAD SOMEONE FOLLOW US HOME WITH MY ELDERLY MOTHER IN THEIR CAR. WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THE 26TH AND THEY REPLACED THE GROUND TO THE TRANSMISSION CASE FROM THE BATTERY. NO CHARGE THIS TIME. ON THE 27TH THE CAR STALLED AGAIN 3 TIMES ON US, WE GOT TO OUR DESTINATION AND DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY TO REBOOT THE COMPUTER AND IT WORKED UNTIL DEC 30TH, WHEN THE DEALERSHIP PICKED IT UP FROM THE LOCATION WHERE IT WOULD NOT START, RIGHT BEFORE THE TOW TRUCK STARTED LOADING IT; IT STARTED AND QUIT AGAIN. IT HAS BEEN AT THE DEALERSHIP EVER SINCE. TODAY JANUARY 7, 2009 THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND WILL BE ORDERING A NEW PCM, AND A POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE. IT WAS EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE MODULE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT STARTING AND THE PCM IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STALLING OR THE SHORTING OUT. THE COST WILL BE $1200. I WILL CALL THEM TOMORROW AND ASK FOR THE PARTS TO BE SAVED. I AM NOT DONE WITH THIS. COUNTLESS REPORTS HAVE BEEN TRACKED AND THE REPROGRAMMING DID NOT FIX THE CHRYSLER PROBLEM, AND NEITHER WILL THEY. *TR
CAR WILL NOT START ON FIRST TRY ON A NORMAL BASIS. HAVE CHANGED BATTERY AND STARTER. CAR ALSO STALLS. WHEN IT DOES START AFTER ABOUT 30 TRIES OR 30 MIN I HAVE TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP IT STARTED. I HAVE GONE TO MANY SITES ON LINE BY TYPING IN STARTING AND STALLING PROBLEMS ON LINE. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. PEOPLE ALONG WITH MYSELF ARE SPENDING A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY TO TRY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER HAS TO KNOW WHAT THIS PROBLEM IS WITH ALL THESE CARS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS BUT THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT OUR PROBLEMS AND THE MONEY THAT WE ARE LOOSING EVERY MONTH. I FEAR THAT I AM GOING TO BE STRANDED WITH MY CHILDREN BECAUSE MY CAR WON'T START OR STALLS. I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR. I KNOW IF THEY TELL EVERYONE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR THEY WILL HAVE TO FIX THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLES CARS THAT ARE IN NEED OF REPAIR AND THAT BIG COMPANY DOES NOT WANT TO DO THAT FOR THE LITTLE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY WHO TRUSTED THEM. THEY HAVE RECEIVED BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN TAX PAYER MONEY AND THEY SHOULD COME CLEAN AND FIX THESE CARS OR AT LEAST TELL US WHAT IS WRONG SO THAT WE CAN FIX THEM FOR GOOD. PLEASE HELP ALL OF US. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRONT MOTOR MOUNT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PART HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER SINCE NOVEMBER 13, 2008, AND WILL BE UNAVAILABLE UNTIL FEBRUARY OF 2009. THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
MOTOR MOUNTS ON MY '04 CHRYSLER PACIFICA ARE BROKEN. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS ITEM. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE MOUNTS ARE ALL ON A BACK-ORDER STATUS AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHEN THEY WILL GET ANY RESTOCK OF THEM. SO NOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DRIVING AROUND WITH UNSAFE VEHICLES. I'VE CHECKED E-BAY AND DEALERSHIPS FOR THESE ITEMS. NO LUCK. I THINK CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RE-CALL THESE MOUNTS SINCE MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. *TR
04 CHRYSLER PACIFICA WAS STRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY A SEMI, AS A RESULT OF THAT THE PACIFICA THEN STRUCK THE GUARD RAIL ON ITS DRIVERS SIDE. THE IMPACT WAS GREAT ENOUGH TO BREAK MULTIPLE WINDOWS, TAKE A TIRE COMPLETELY OFF ITS RIM, AND YET THE SIDE AIRBAGS DID NOT COME OUT. *TR
CRUISE CONTROL WOULD SLOW DURING A STRAIN THEN OVER TIME COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING. THE VACUUM HOSE HAS BEEN REPLACES AROUND 3 TIMES AND ANOTHER PART ONCE. THE CRUISE CONTROL HAS QUIT WORKING ONCE AGAIN. *TR
TOOK THE `04 PACIFICA TO DEALERSHIP FOR CLUNKING NOISE ON DRIVERS SIDE FRONT. DIAGN. WAS FOR TWO HYDRAULIC MOTOR MOUNTS $600. NOW TELLS ME THE CLUNK IS STILL THERE AND NEEDS UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS REPLACED $800. I AM DISGRUNTLED THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST THIS IS COSTING ME SO MUCH TO REPAIR, BUT SECONDLY THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THESE DEFECTS FOR QUITE SOME TIME. MANY COMPLAINTS AT HTTP://TOWNHALL-TALK.EDMUNDS.COM/DIRECT/VIEW/.F0EC024/186 DISCUSS THIS VERY SAME ISSUE. IT APPEARS THAT CHRYSLER HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS DEFECT SINCE THE FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION, BUT HAS NOT OFFERED UP ANY RECALL. THIS IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL FAILURE WAITING TO HAPPEN AND ALL OF THESE VEHICLES NEED TO BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BEFORE MAJOR ACCIDENTS OCCUR. THESE VEHICLES ARE PREDOMINANTLY BEING DRIVEN BY FAMILIES AND THERE NEEDS TO BE A REMEDY BEFORE ANY CRITICAL FAILURE OF PARTS NEEDLESSLY TAKES ANY LIVES. I IMPLORE YOU TO ACT ON THIS COMPLAINT. *TR
THERE WAS NO INCIDENT, MOTOR MOUNTS BREAK AT EASE AND HAVE BEEN ON BACK ORDER SINCE OCTOBER OF 08. I WAS TOLD BY REP AT CHRYSLER THAT MOUNTS ON PACIFICAS ALWAYS BREAK WAY BEFORE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 7 MONTHS FOR REPLACEMENT BUT CHRYSLER DOESN'T SEEM TO HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHEN THEY'LL BE IN. LAST I CHECK WHICH WAS LAST WEEK COULD BE MONTHS. THE MOUNTS ARE NEEDED TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM FALLING OUT , NO MOUNTS MEANS I CAN'T DRIVE MY ONLY CAR. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA AND IT HAS MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH STARTING. I HAVE BEEN IN VERY REMOTE PLACING AND THE CAR WILL NOT START. AFTER ABOUT 15 TO 20 ATTEMPTS THE CAR MAY TURN OVER. I HAVE CHANGED THE BATTERY AND THE STARTER AS WELL WITH NOT IMPROVEMENTS. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF OTHERS HAVING THIS PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE A PUFFING NOISE. THE CONTACT DROVE UP THE ON RAMP AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SMOKE. THE TIRES CAUGHT FIRES. SHE EXITED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED FLAMES ON THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT WERE NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.
2004 CHRYLSER PACIFICA ENGINE CRADLE RUSTED OUT, TIE ROD REPLACED ABOUT ONE YR AGO. DEALER WON'T COVER COST D/T WARRANTY EXPIRED. 53,000 MILES ON CAR. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE D/T ENGINE/TRANS COULD FALL OUT WHILE DRIVING. INSTRUCTED ONLY TO DRIVE CAR IF NECESSARY. AVOID BUMPS! HAVE FOUND MULTIPLE C/O ON INTERNET ON SAME MATTER. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR POOR QUALITY OF METAL USED ON FRAME WORK. *TR
MOTOR MOUNTS ON 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA DEFECTIVE AFTER 61000 MILES CAUSED ENGINE TO SHIFT AND LOOSEN TRANSMISSION CABLE/WIRE DISABLING VEHICLE. *TR
I HAVE A CHYRSLER 04 PACIFICA AND IT HAS BEEN TROUBLE FOR WAY OVER A YEAR NOW. IT NEEDS MOTOR MOUNTS AND THERE IS NONE AVAILABLE AND HAS NOT BEEN IN A YEAR. THE CHYRSLER DEALER AND CORPORATION HAS NO CLUE TO WHEN AND IF THEY WILL EVER HAVE THESE MOUNTS. I STILL HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO PAY FOR THIS CAR AND IT IS ABOUT TO PUT ME ON MY TWO FEET. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TWO SETS OF HEAD LIGHTS IN WHICH BOTH TIMES THEY WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND STARTER WITHIN A MONTH OF EACH OTHER AND THE IDLE PULLEY HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE ONLY THING THAT CHYRSLER RECALLED THAT WAS RECENTLY FIXED WAS THE ERG VALUE. ALL OF THIS OTHER STUFF IS OUT OF POCKET AND THE MOTOR MOUNTS ARE IN DEMAND ALL OVER THE U.S. TAKE A LOOK AT TOPIX.COM/ CHRYSLER MOTOR MOUNTS AND YOU WILL SEE 41 OTHER PEOPLE LIKE ME WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC TO INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE HAD ROTTED OUT AND DROPPED TWO TO THREE INCHES BELOW THE ENGINE. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $4,000, IN WHICH THE DEALER WAS WILLING TO PAY FOR HALF. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 126,000. UPDATED 09/17/08. *LJ UPDATED 09/25/08. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD STICK WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BUILDING CARBON AND CAUSED THE PEDAL TO STICK. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE HOUSING, BUT THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $200. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
1. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK, 6 PM HEADING EAST ON HWY 119 WAITING TO TURN LEFT ON WC RD 3.5. TING , TING SOUND, WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. PUT OUT WITH HOSE AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY. ALTERNATOR WAS GLOWING ORANGE, ENGINE HARNESS SMOKING, GROUND STRAPS BURNED OFF, AND AIR CLEANER ON FIRE. TOWED TO CHRYSLER DEALER AND CHRYSLER SAID IT WAS NOT A MECHANICAL DEFECT, BUT I DISAGREE. THE CONSEQUENCE IS I HAVE A DAMAGED CAR. *TR
2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. I PURCHASED A PACIFICA ON 4/23/08, ON 4/25 I NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT SHIFTING SMOOTHLY BUT REALLY WASN'T AFFECTING MY DRIVING. ON 7/7/08 WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STUTTERED WHILE TRYING TO SHIFT ONCE AGAIN AND THEN THREW ITSELF INTO A LOW GEAR. THIS CAUSED THE CAR TO JUMP FORWARD AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AFTER THAT. I DROPPED OFF THE CAR AT DODGE SERVICE ON 7/9 AND GOT THE CAR BACK 7/14. THE CAR DID THE SAME THING AGAIN 7/15 AND WAS DROPPED OFF THE SAME DAY, I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 7/22 AND BY 7/23 MIDDAY WAS BACK IN SERVICE AGAIN. I PICKED UP THE CAR ON 7/29 AND 7/30 THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE CAR WILL BE READY BY 8/4 TO PICK UP. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS AND SEVERAL HOURS OF WORK MISSED. I AM AFRAID OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AS I DRIVE WITH MY 2 KIDS IN THE CAR AND ALSO IN SCHOOL PARKING LOTS, THE WAY IT JOLTS FORWARD WHEN IT DECIDE TO ACT UP COULD BE LETHAL IN A SCHOOL LOT WHERE KIDS ARE. UPON ORDERING A CARFAX REPORT WE FOUND THAT THIS IS A CONTINUING ISSUE SINCE 2005. *TR
MY 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA HAS BROKEN MOTOR MOUNTS AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THEY ARE ON BACK-ORDER INDEFINATELY. *TR
VEHICLE WAS MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE AT ACCELERATION, VEHICLE WAS ALSO MAKING NOISES THAT SOUNDED LIKE THE SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE BROKEN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE FRONT AND REAR MOTOR MOUNTS. AFTER THIS WAS DONE 2 DAYS LATER VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME THAT THE EMISSION PUMP AND SOLENOID HAS FAILED - THE EMISSION PUMP WAS JUST REPLACED IN NOVEMBER 2007. FROM REVIEWING THE WEBSITE IT LOOKS LIKE CHRYLSER NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR SERVICE. I HAVE ASKED THEM FOR ALL OF MY PARTS THAT THEY ARE REMOVING FROM MY VEHICLE SINCE I NO LONGER TRUST THE DEALERSHIP AND WILL BE LOOKING FOR AN OUTSIDE MECHANIC TO SERVICE MY CAR. MG *TR
2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA APPEARS TO HAVE A FLAW IN THE FUEL TANK. CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED A FEW WEEKS PRIOR HE/SHE WERE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAS GAUGE. ONCE THE GAUGE WAS DOWN TO A HALF A TANK, THE NEEDLE WOULD FLUCTUATE AND THE ELECTRONIC GAUGE WOULD SUDDENLY DROP 20 MILES TO EMPTY. AT ONE POINT THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE MECHANIC TURNED THE ENGINE LIGHT OFF, HOWEVER A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS FUEL IN ONE SIDE OF THE TANK, IT WAS NOT PUMPING TO WHERE IT NEEDED TO BE IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO CONTINUE RUNNING. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE SIDE FUEL MODULE ON BOTH SIDES, THE FUEL MODULE AND FUEL PUMP MODULE. *JB
1. OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED BY DEALER SINCE VEHICLE WAS NEW. ODD OCCASION, DUE TO LOCATION ISSUES, OIL HAD TO BE CHANGED AT A GOODYEAR SERVICE DEPARTMENT. 2. GOODYEAR SERVICE WRITER INFORMED US THE DRAIN HOLE THREADS ON OIL PAN WERE STRIPPED BY THE LAST PLACE TO CHANGE OIL. INFORMED OIL PAN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONTACTED CHRYSLER DEALER WHERE WORK HAD ALWAYS BEEN DONE. THEY DENIED RESPONSIBILITY, BUT ACKNOWLEDGED THE WIDE-SPREAD INCIDENCE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH OTHER PACIFICA MODELS AROUND THE COUNTRY. 3. AFTER BEING PUT OFF FOR MORE THAN 6 WEEKS, WE ARE HAVING THE OIL PAN DRAIN HOLE RE-THREADED (IT CAN ONLY BE DONE ONCE), BY A TRUSTED MECHANIC TRAINED BY CHRYSLER. WE WILL DETERMINE WHAT NEEDS TO DONE LONG-TERM AS ADVISED BY THIS MECHANIC. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNT HAD RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER HE WOULD ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE VERY HARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FRONT ENGINE MOUNT WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA. IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS, MOST OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS STARTED MALFUNCTIONING. THE AIR VENTS HAVE "STUCK" WHERE AIR WILL ONLY BLOW THROUGH THE DASH VENTS KEEPING THE DEFROST VENTS FROM WORKING WHICH MAKES IT UNUSABLE TO DRIVE IN RAIN OR COLD WEATHER. THE DASH DISPLAYS AND LIGHTS HAVE STOPPED WORKING TOTALLY. THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SUDDENLY SWING FROM THE CORRECT POSITION TO EITHER FULL OR EMPTY, THEN GO BACK TO NORMAL AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES. THE HEADLIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY AND GO OFF WITH NO NOTICE. WE ARE CURRENTLY UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT NIGHT, DURING RAIN AND WHENEVER THE TEMPERATURE GETS BELOW ABOUT 50 DEGREES. IT HAS ALSO STARTED INTERMITTENTLY SHUTTING OFF DURING DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THIS VEHICLE IS NOW TOTALLY UNSAFE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO 5 DIFFERENT DEALERS TO BE LOOKED AT. ONE REPLACED A COMPUTER MODULE, WHICH DID NOTHING. ANOTHER REPLACED AN ELECTRONIC MODULE FOR THE HEADLIGHTS, WHICH AGAIN DID NOTHING. THE FIFTH SAID THAT THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (WIRING HARNESSES, COMPUTERS AND MODULES) WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $4000! HE STATED THAT THE ELECTRONICS ON THE EARLY MODEL PACIFICAS IS KNOWN TO START SHORTING OUT BY THE DEALERS AND THAT THEY "PIECE MEAL" IT TOGETHER BY REPLACING PART AFTER PART UNTIL MOST OR ALL OF IT IS REPLACED. FROM THE ODI SITE I SEE THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A CONTINUING WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE EARLY PACIFICAS AND WONDER WHY CHRYSLER CAN CONTINUE TO IGNORE THIS PROBLEM. PAYING QUITE A BIT OF MONEY FOR A VEHICLE AND BEING UNABLE TO USE IT BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT SOMEONE TO GET HURT OR KILLED SEEMS LIKE A BIG ENOUGH ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER WOULD BE ORDERED TO RECALL AND FIX THIS ISSUE. OIL PAN PLUG BECAME STRIPPED VERY EASILY RESULTING IN NEED FOR OIL PAN REPLACEMENT. MECHANICS REPORTED OIL PAN UNUSUALLY THIN WHERE PLUG SCREWS IN RESULTING IN EASY STRIP. TO EMPHASIZE THIS MUST BE A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CAR IS NOW ON A WAITING LIST OF AT LEAST A MONTH BEFORE ONE WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I WAS FURTHER NOTIFIED THAT 156 ARE BACK ORDERED AND 96 ADDITIONAL ARE IN THE PIPELINE FOR THIS PARTICULAR PAN FOR THIS ENGINE. IF I HAD THE OTHER ENGINE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAR, THERE WOULD BE IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT. I WAS FURTHER WARNED THAT THE CAR IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE NOW BECAUSE THE PLUG COULD FALL OUT AT ANY TIME WITH A RESULTANT FIRE AND/OR SEIZING UP OF THE ENGINE FROM RAPID DRAINAGE OF OIL. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO HEARD FRONT END NOISES. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO RETRIEVE A SERVICE BULLETIN, AND THE CODE INDICATED THAT WHEN A CONSUMER PLACED 12 GALLONS OF FUEL OR LESS IN THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT HAD TO PAY $70 TO HAVE THE ENGINE RESET. HE CONSULTED CHRYSLER INITIALLY FOR REIMBURSEMENT, BUT THEN FOR AN EXPLANATION AS TO WHY THE FEATURE CAUSED THE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. CHRYSLER RESPONDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY DENIED HIS REQUEST FOR REIMBURSEMENT. HE INFORMED THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT MALFUNCTION BECAUSE, AS HE WAS INFORMED, THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THEREFORE, THE WARRANTY WAS NOT AN ISSUE. THE VIN, PURCHASE DATE, AND ENGINE SIZE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

MY CAR HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME ON 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A FUEL LINE PROBLEM AND CLEANED THE FUEL LINE SYSTEM. THE SECOND TIME THE PROBLEM HAPPENED, LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AGAIN, THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED A SENSOR. THE 3RD TIME, SAME SCENARIO, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY 2ND OCCASION THE "COMPUTER" GAVE THEM A FAULT, BUT THE FIRST TIME IT DIDN'T SO THEY FIXED WHAT THEY "THOUGHT" THE PROBLEM COULD BE. ON THE 3RD OCCASION, THEY TOLD ME THAT WHEN THE 2ND EVENT HAPPENED IT GAVE THEM A FAULT THAT COULD HAVE MEANT THAT ONE OF TWO SENSORS HAD GONE BAD. THEY SAID THAT IF THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY THEY WOULD HAVE JUST REPLACED BOTH SENSORS. SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY JUST REPLACED THE ONE "THAT USUALLY GOES BAD." SO ON MY 3RD TRIP TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE SECOND SENSOR AND OF COURSE I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LABOR AGAIN. THE PARTS THEMSELVES COST $20 EACH AND IF ASKED THE FIRST TIME IF I WANTED TO REPLACE BOTH SENSORS LIKE THEY WOULD FOR A WARRANTY REPAIR, I WOULD CERTAINLY HAD AGREED. MY 4TH EVENT HAPPENED 4 WEEKS AGO. MY CAR IS STILL AT DEALERSHIP I TYPE THIS. I PURCHASED MY '04 PACIFICA USED WITH 44K MILES ON IT. THE DAY AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE THE FUEL GAUGE DROPPED FROM HALF TANK TO COMPLETELY EMPTY THEN WOULD BOUNCE BACK TO HALF FULL. SO I WENT BACK TO MY PURCHASING DEALER AND WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FUEL SENSOR AND THAT IT WOULD BE TAKEN CAR OF. 1. DRIVING ON TROPICANA AVE GOING 30 MPH WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN I HEARD A KNOCK SOUND AND I STARTED SMELLING FUEL. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AN NOTICES A SMALL STEEL OBJECT STICKING OUT OF THE GAS TANK AND FUEL WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE PLACE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFIC. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE WAS FORCED TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID A VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SIX TIMES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. WITNESSES AT THE SCENE STATED THAT DURING THE THIRD ROLLOVER, A 9-YEAR OLD CHILD, LOCATED IN THE MIDDLE ROW ON THE DRIVER SIDE, WAS THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE AND DIED. THE CHILD WAS WEARING A SEATBELT AT THE TIME. ALL OF THE OTHER PASSENGERS SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE DRIVER AND THREE PASSENGERS WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. DRIVING ON URBAN DIVIDED HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AT STEADY SPEED ON A FLAT, RELATIVELY STRAIGHT SECTION OF HIGHWAY, FUEL GAUGE BEGAN FLUCTUATING. FLUCTUATIONS OF THE NEEDLE SWUNG FROM THE CURRENT FUEL STATE OF JUST OVER INDICATED HALF TANK OF FUEL TO THE COMPLETELY EMPTY INDICATION. LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN NEEDLE FELL BELOW THE CRITICAL POINT FOR ILLUMINATION. OTHER SWINGS OF THE NEEDLE RANGED FROM CURRENT STATE TO ANYTHING BELOW THE CURRENT STATE AND RETURNED TO PROPER INDICATION. NO FUEL WAS LOST. NO LEAKS. AFTER HAVING NO PROBLEMS WITH THE 2004 CHRYSLER PACIFICA FOR NEARLY 2 YEARS, ALL OF A SUDDEN OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS IT HAS BEGUN TO STALL AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A CAR IN FRONT OF ME IT JUST DIED. THE NEXT 2 TIMES IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE USING CRUISE CONTROL AT 70 MPH. THE NEXT TIME I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL. TODAY, IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IDLING IN PARK, ENGINE FULLY WARMED UP. EACH TIME ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT OUT, AND THE KEY WAS IN SWITCH BUT NOT ON. I WAS ABLE TO IMMEDIATELY RESTART THE VEHICLE BY TURNING IGNITION TO ON WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP AND WITHOUT HAVING TO SHIFT OUT OF DRIVE. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS HITTING KEY WITH MY KNEE, I WAS A BIT TALL, BUT THIS LAST TIME, MY LEG WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE IGNITION. I HAVE A KILL SWITCH ALARM SYSTEM, BUT NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF MY PROBLEM. *TR
