FOG LIGHT SWITCH FAILURE, FOG LIGHTS STAY ON WHETHER THE SWITCH IS TURNED ON OR OFF. SMELL OF BURNING WIRES AFTER VEHICLE SITS FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS WITH THE LIGHTS ON. *AK
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2002 PT CRUISER HAS LITERALLY CRACK STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE. I AM SURE THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT GETS ANY LARGER. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DASHBOARD HAS BEEN CRACKING FOR QUITE SOME TIME. THE CRACK EXTENDS FROM THE WINDOW TO THE RADIO. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT HAS PICTURES OF THE DAMAGE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52,067.
THERE IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE CHRYSLER PT CRUISER WHEREIN THE MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH ON THE COLUMN MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE FOG LIGHTS TO COME UNEXPECTEDLY, COMPLETELY DRAINING THE BATTERY . THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOMETIME AND CHRYSLER REFUSED TO CORRECT IT, WHICH WOULD APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE REPAIR CHARGE WA S UPWARDS OF $200.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. SHE NOTICED A LOUD RUBBING NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL EVERY TIME SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OR REASON FOR THE NOISE. SHE RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE (04V268000) FOR THE POWER STEERING AND THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ACCORDING TO THAT RECALL; HOWEVER, SHE NOTICED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE. THE DEALER LATER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT HEAR THE NOISE IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING AWAY FROM THE DEALER, SHE SMELLED SMOKE, DROVE BACK TO THE DEALER AND SMOKE BEGAN TO "BELLOW" FROM UNDERNEATH THE LEFT FRONT TIRE. THE DEALER PROVIDED ASSISTANCE AND REPLACED THE HOSE, CALIPER, BRAKE PAD, ROTOR AND THE WHEEL COVER. SHE WAS CHARGED $406.60 FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ADVISED OF THE REPAIR COST; HOWEVER, THEY ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE MATTER UP WITH THE DEALER. THE FOLLOWING YEAR THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE SAME DEALER TOLD THAT THE CALIPER WAS LEAKING. THEY CALIPER WAS REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE WARRANTY. SHE ASKED THE DEALER WHY THEY HAD NOT REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME ACCORDING TO WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FIRST TIME, IT WAS A NEW ISSUE. SHE WENT BACK TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING YEAR FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURE AND WAS BILLED $239 TO REPLACE THE CALIPER SINCE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. RECENTLY, SHE SMELLED SMOKE AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THE CALIPER WAS WARPED BECAUSE OF INTENSE HEAT AND THE BRAKE LINE HAD SOOT IN IT AND THAT THE WARPED CALIPER WAS HOLDING THE WHEEL IN PLACE. SHE PROVIDED THE DEALER WITH A REFERENCE NUMBER FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE DEALER TRIED TO SPEAK WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE AND WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 37,900. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER STATED THAT THE VIN IS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL # 07V149000 (VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IF THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, THEY WOULD BE UNABLE TO ASSIST HIM. DASHBOARD CRACKED IN 2 LOCATIONS. POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD IF WIRES ARE EXPOSED. COULD POTENTIALLY RUIN CABLES FOR HEADLIGHTS, BREAK LIGHTS AND TURNING SIGNALS
MY 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER RECEIVED A CRACK ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CRACK SLOWLY GREW AROUND THE VENT AND STARTED TO COLLAPSE. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE PIECES WILL FALL INTO THE WIRING UNDER THE DASH. CARMAX (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND CHRYLSER WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CAR IS ONLY 5 1/2 YEARS OLD. FOR MY SAFETY, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR MYSELF. *TR

1) HEARD OCCASIONAL "CLICKING" NOISE IN STEERING. DID NOT EXPERIENCE STEERING PROBLEMS. 2) ON SATURDAY, MAY 26TH, THE TIE ROD BROKE WHILE TURNING A CORNER, STOPPING THE VEHICLE INSTANTLY. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO BE SERVICED AT CHRYSLER AND SHOWED THEM THE CRACK THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO ANY OTHER CARS THEN GAVE A QUOTE FOR ME TO PAY AND FIX IT. HOWEVER THE LOCAL NEWS HAS BEEN INVESTIGATING AND THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE PT CRUISERS AND A DODGE TRUCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED AND SHE HEARD A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHILE IT WAS STATIONARY. SHE FELT THAT A FAILED MOTOR MOUNT CAUSED THE FAILURE. AS OF NOVEMBER 8, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT COMPLETED AN INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 85,000. DASHBOARD CRACKING ON 2002 PT CRUISER. WATCHING CRACK WORK IT'S WAY ALONG DASH.. ...TODAY HEARD A LOUD CRACK SOUND AND NOW DASH IS CRACKED IN HALF. I DO NOT SEE ANY RECALL INFO FROM CHRYSLER. BOUGHT A 2002 PT CRUISE NEW. BEFORE THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY RAN OUT THE WATER PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AND AT THE 36,000 MARK THE HEAD GASKET HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW AT JUST OVER 60,000 THE WATER PUMP AGAIN HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW I NOTICED IT IS STARTING TO RUN ON THE HOT SIDE. I AM SO AFRAID IT IS THE HEAD GASKET AGAIN. *TR

SHE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ALL WINTER AND BEGAN MAKING THIS NOISE ONE MONTH AGO. THE SPEED AND THE WEATHER ARE NOT FACTORS. THE NOISE IS PRODUCED WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE DASHBOARD STARTED CRACKING LAST MONTH ON THE PT CRUISER AND APPEARED TO BE GETTING WORSE. I WAS CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL MAKE DRIVING THE CAR DANGEROUS. THE BRAKES MAKE A GOD AWFUL NOISE I HAVE HAD THEM CHECKED THEY SAY NOTHING IS WRONG BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THEM THE BRAIN BOX WENT OUT THE SAME TIME AS THE TRANMISSION. THE DASHBOARD ON TOP HAS CRACKED FOR NO REASON THE CAR IS GARAGE KEPT IT PULLS TO THE RIGHT FOR NO REASON THEY SAY AND IT HAS STARTED MAKING RATTLING NOISES FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE THE TRUNK LID SHOCKS ARE GIVEN OUT AND THE CAR JUST TURNED TO 40,000.00 MILES I THINK THEY MAKE THEM TO BREAK AT A CERTAIN TINE AND NO ONE WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT THESES PROBLEMS I THINK MY NEXT CAR MIGHT BE A TOYOTA AT LEAST THEY DON'T FALL APART SO EASY BECAUSE I BABY THIS CAR LIKE ITS THE ONLY ONE I WILL EVER OWN IF CHRYSLER WANTED TO DO THE RIGHT THING THEY WOULD TAKE THIS LEMON BACK AND GIVE ME A NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE AND I WOULD DO THE CHRYSLER ADVERSEMENT ALL OVER IT FOR THEM AS LONG AS IT LOOKS GOOD . DASHBOARD COLLAPSED ON 2002 PT CRUISER PURCHASED IN JANUARY 2006. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS AGO TWO CRACKS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD, THEN IN MARCH 2007 THE VENTILATION GRILL STARTED TO BREAK, AND THE DASHBOARD WAS NOW BASICALLY IN TWO HALVES. AS THE GAP IN THE DASHBOARD APPEARED TO BE GETTING LARGER. A TEMPORARY REPAIR WAS MADE USING SUPER GLUE TO HOLD THE DASHBOARD TOGETHER. *AK

THERE ARE NOW THREE CRACKS IN SEVERAL PLACES. TWO YEARS AGO, THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RELATED INCIDENTS. TL*- THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING THE 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER AT45 MPH SHE SMELLED SMOKE. AFTER DRIVING TWO MILES MORE THERE WERE FLAMES AND ASHES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT STATED SHE PULLED OFF THE ROAD, EXITED THE VEHICLE, AND REMOVED HER PERSONAL BELONGINGS. ATC APPROXIMATELY 15 SECONDS LATER THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETED ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE ROADS WERE CLEAR. THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT AVAILABLE. THE FIRE MARSHALL WAS UNABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE TO THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FUEL PUMP MODULE SECONDARY SEAL ON AUGUST 30 2004 AND HAD IT REPLACED AT 8900 MILES. TALSO, HE CONTACT STATED SHE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE ON AUGUST 11TH 2005 AT 14000 MILES. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE WAS REPLACED, ADJUSTED OR INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE HAD 20000 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. *AK
CANNOT TURN OFF FOG LIGHTS/DRIVING LIGHTS WHEN HEADLIGHTS ARE ON OR OFF. *NM
I NOTICED THE CRACK IN THE DASHBOARD . AT THE END OF THE EVENING THE CRACK WENT FROM THE VENT ON THE DASHBOARD TO THE WINDSHIELD. ANOTHER CRACK OPENED ABOUT 3 INCHES TO THE LEFT AND CONTINUED CRACKING UNTIL IT WAS COMPLETELY CRACKED IN HALF . NOW ,THERE WAS A THIRD FISSURE STARTING. THE PIECES OF THE VENT WERE FALLING INSIDE OF IT. *AK

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT NOTICED A CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT DEBRIS FROM THE CRACK COULD FALL ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND CAUSE A CRASH. THE CRACK COULD ALSO CAUSE THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO FAIL. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PERFORM THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 64,500 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.

THE DRIVER HAD TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN BELOW 55 MPH SO THAT IT WOULD NOT TO SWERVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS LOOSE ,AND HE BELIEVED THE WHEEL MIGHT FALL OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHRYSLER DEALER, AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS NEEDING A REAR AXLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE ODOMETER REACHED 61,000 MILES HE BEGAN TO HEAR A HUMMING NOISE AND FELT VIBRATION. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE'S DASHBOARD WAS CRACKED. THE MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 54,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
I OWN A 2002 P/T CRUISER AND THE DASH OARD CRACKED RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE FROM THE WINDSHIELD TO THE TOP OF THE CONTROL CONSOLE, ABOUT A FOOT LONG OR 15 INCHES LONG CRACK. THERE WAS NO VEHICLE ACCIDENT CAUSING THIS, OR ANY OTHER TRAUMA TO THE DASHBOARD. IT SIMPLY CRACKED IN THE 5 YEARS WE OWNED THE CAR.*AK
MY '02 PT CRUISER HAS HAD MANY INCIDENTS OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OCCASSIONALLY FLICKERS OR DOES NOT LIGHT UP AT ALL. THE RADIO DISPLAY/CLOCK FEATURE WILL TURN OFF WHILE MUSIC IS STILL PLAYING. HEADLIGHTS DIM WHEN RADIO/INSTRUMENT PANEL IS CHANGED. THE ABS FAILED ON THE INTERSTATE WHLIE GOING 65MPH. THE CAR SLID FOR A LONG TIME, CAUSING A LARGE BALD SPOT ON ALL 4 TIRES. THEN SUBSEQUENTLY THE CAR SHUT OFF AND TOOK A FEW MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR WAS ABLE TO TURN BACK ON. THE STARTER HAS DIED 3 TIMES, EACH TIME BEING REPLACED. THE CAR GETS ROUGHLY 13MPG AT ALL TIMES. THERE IS NO SAFETY UNDER THE SEAT TO PREVENT ROLLING OBJECTS FROM ROLLING INTO THE FRONT SEAT AND POTENTIALLY AFFECTING THE USE OF PEDALS. THE CAR FREQUENTLY DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO TURN THE KEY. I HAVE HAD ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS, EVEN WHILE TAKING EXCELLENT CARE OF MY VECHICLE. *JB
TROUBLE WITH MULTIFUNCTION CONTROL SWITCH FOR PT CRUISER HEADLIGHTS. THE FOG LIGHTS ON THE PT CRUISER ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT OPERATOR INTERFACE OR FAIL TO SHUT OFF WHEN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH IS OPERATED. THIS CAUSED BATTERY TO FAIL. NO AUDIBLE INDICATION THAT LIGHTS REMAINED ON. *AK

I OWN A 2002 PT CRUISER AND HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT, BY HAVING IT ALWAYS SERVICED AT THE DEALERS AND NOWHERE ELSE. GOODYEAR TIRE MODEL P205/50R17 EAGLE RSA. TIRE KEPT GOING FLAT AND WHEN EXAMINED THERE WAS A CIRCULAR CRACK AROUND THE TREAD, ALMOST LIKE A RETREAD WOULD SEPARATE, CAR WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION UNTIL TIRES REPLACED. TIRES CAME WITH CAR AS AN OPTION. *JB

A FEW MONTHS AFTER IT BEGAN CRACKING, THE CONTACT NOTICED ANOTHER CRACK FORMING. CURRENTLY, THE SECOND CRACK IS AS LONG AS THE FIRST ONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 69,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
