WAS LOSING MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF AIR FROM LEFT REAR TIRE. TOOK IT TO SEARS, FOR TIRE REPAIR, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE TIRE WAS FINE, BUT THAT THE CHROME PLATED WHEEL WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AT THE BEAD. THEN TOOK CAR TO DEALER, WHERE THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE WHEEL WAS BEYOND REPAIR, AND ORDERED A NEW ONE. REPLACED A WEEK LATER. OK SINCE, HOWEVER I NOW HAVE TWO MORE WHEELS DOING THE SAME THING. WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. I AM AFRAID THAT THE WHEELS MAY FAIL. *JB
CAME OUT TO CAR AFTER WORK TO GO HOME. THE CAR WOULDN'T START, THE IGNITION WOULD TURN ON, BUT THE ENGINE WOULDN'T TURN OVER. I TURNED THE IGNITION ON-OFF-ON TO GET ANY TROUBLE CODES AND WHEN I TOOK THE KEY OUT AFTERWARDS THE "KEY IN IGNITION CHIME" SOUNDED WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR AFTER I HAD ALREADY REMOVED THE KEY. I PUT THE KEY BACK IN THE IGNITION AND TRIED TO START THE CAR AGAIN, BUT THE IGNITION WOULDN'T EVEN TURN ON, THERE WAS NO DISCERNBLE CLICK AS I TURNED THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AT ALL. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO HAVE THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN REPLACED AND THAT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE DAIMLER CHRYSLER SERVICE CONTRACT I HAD PURCHASED WHEN I GOT THE CAR NEW.
CHROME PLATED ALUMINUM WHEELS ON 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISE LIMITED. CHROME PEELS OFF AND THE RIM LEAKS AIR.. LOCAL DEALER WAS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.
THE FRONT SUSPENSION BUSHING ON ALL CHRYSLER PT CRUISERS ARE DESIGNED IN SUCH A MANNER THAT THEY CAN DISLODGE FROM THEIR POSITIONS WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING THE FRONT SUSPENSION TO LOSE IT'S ALIGNMENT. THE BUSHING FAILURE IS COVERED WITH CHRYSLER'S WARRANTY BUT THE EXCESSIVE TIRE WEAR ASSOCIATED WITH IT, IS NOT. THE TIRE DAMAGE HAPPENS SO FAST THAT THE TIRES CANNOT BE SALVAGED. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH PT CRUISERS. THE DEALERS REFUSE TO ACCOMMODATE FOR THE TIRE WEAR CAUSED BY THEIR PROBLEM. *NM
CHROME WHEELS PEELING, ESPECIALLY AROUND VALVE STEMS, PRODUCING MINUTE LEAKS IN AIR PRESSURE OF TIRES, DESPITE REPLACEMENT OF VALVE STEMS. HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED WITH NO RESPONSE. *NM
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, RADIO, DOOR LOCKS AND OTHER ITEMS HAVE FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING OR IDLING. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN 5+ TIMES FOR REPAIR AND THE DEALER CLAIMS THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING. WE FOUND A RECALL FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND THE DEALER CLAIMED OUR CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED. NOW, THE CAR DOES NOT START EVEN THOUGH THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE BATTERY ETC.
MY IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN AFTER PUTTING IN THE KEY. IT WAS AS IF THE SOLENOID WAS FROZEN.*AK

THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS IN THE HEADLINER DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS BURNED. OTHER PROBLEMS: TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKED AND SQUEAKS WERE COMING FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL BEARINGS SEVERAL TIMES: FRONT-APRIL OF 2005 AT 64690 MILES, FRONT-APRIL 2006 AT 89223 MILES, FRONT-MAY 2006 AT 91750 MILES, FRONT WHEEL BEARING-JULY 2009 AT 153048 MILES, FRONT WHEEL BEARING-APRIL 2011 AT 182684 MILES, REAR WHEEL BEARING-OCTOBER 2011 AT 191072 MILES. I HAVE REPLACED OR REPAIRED THE SUSPENSION PARTS: FRONT BUSHING CONTROL ARM, BALL JOINT LOWER CONTROL ARM-MARCH 2006 AT 86643 MILES, LEFT INNER TIE ROD HAD EXCESSIVE PLAY-JANUARY 2007 AT 107087 MILES, TWO OUTER TIE RODS REPLACED-JANUARY 2008 AT 127121 MILES. *TR
WHEEL RIM OXIDATION IS CAUSING TIRE/RIM LEAK WITH NEW TIRES. THIS LEAK MUST BE FILLED DAILY AND RUNS THE RISK OF TIRE FAILURE AND AN ACCIDENT. THIS LEAK IS ON A 2002 PT DREAM CRUISER WITH 35837 MILES
RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V268000 CONCERNING POWER STEERING HOSE ASSEMBLY. AFTER THE VEHICLE BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR DAYS HE TOLD CONSUMER TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE, AND THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT DONE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MENTONED ON THE WORK ORDER.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, ON 3/1/05 ALL TIRES WERE LOW. UPON INSPECTION BY THE SERVICE DEALER, CORROSION WAS FOUND ON THE RIMS OF ALL FOUR TIRES, CAUSING THE SEAL BETWEEN THE TIRE AND RIMS TO BE BROKEN. THE TIRES WERE REMOVED AND ALL TIRES AND RIMS WERE CLEANED AND PLACED BACK ONTO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THERE WAS NO LIABILITY ON THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. UPDATED 11/3/2006 - *NM
DRIVING DOWN STREET AT 20 MI PER HR. RIGHT FRONT LOWER A ARM BROKE OFF WHEEL CAUSING WHEEL TO TURN RIGHT HITTING A PARKED CAR. IS AT BODY SHOP BEING REPAIRED.
FOR THE PAST TW-THREE MONTHS, EITHER IT HAS STALLED IN THE GARAGE OR ON A BUSY THOROUGHFARE. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER HAS REPLACED TRANSMISSION, I'VE HAD AN OIL CHANGE, WE'VE HAD RENTAL CARS, TOW TRUCKS, I'VE MISSED CHURCH, FLIGHT CONNECTIONS, VALUABLE TIME AWAY FROM WORK-FIFTH TIME REPORTING-DEALER HAS DONE EVERYTHING-THIS CAR IS GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF ME-IT HAS TOXIC FUMES-AND IS LITERALLY HAVINE ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND LEAVING IT ON THE PROPERTY. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH TRANSMISSION FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED IN FOUR SPOTS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED MOSTLY IN A GARAGE AND AWAY FROM SUNLIGHT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 20,051 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER HAS DASH BOARD THAT IS SEVERELY CRACKED
INSIDE DOOR HANDLE ON PT CRUISER HAS SPLIT, CAUSING AN EXTREMELY SHARP SLIVER TO CUT MY FINGER. MR. AKKERMAN, ASST. SERVICE MANAGER AT THE CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER IN HEMET AGREES THAT THIS IS PROBABLY A DEFECTIVE PART BUT THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING IT. I WONDER IF THERE HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OR INJURIES FROM THIS HANDLE OR IF MINE IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. *AK
HAD TIRES CHANGED AT DEALER. AFTER TIRE CHANGE, TWO OF THE TIRES BEGAN LEAKING. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHECKED, DEALER FINALLY DECIDED THAT THE CHROME-PLATED RIMS WERE CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW, AFTER HAVING TWO MORE TIRES REPLACE, THE NEW TIRES ARE LEAKING AND I AM AFRAID THAT I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR TWO MORE RIMS. *JB
NOTICED A LARGE AMOUNT OF FLUID UNDER CAR IN THE MORNING. AFTER INVESTIGATION, DETERMINED IT WAS TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE FLUID LEVEL IN CAR WAS VERY LOW. SINCE IT WAS A"SPECIAL" FLUID, I COULD NOT BUY IT AT THE LOCAL PARTS STORE. TOOK A CHANCE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE "SOLENOID PACK" AND "COOLER LINES". PARTS REPLACED, OK SINCE. IF IT HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND POSSIBLY FIRE. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH DRIVER SWERVED TO THE LEFT TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL CAME OFF AT THE SPINDLE WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED BACK TO THE RIGHT. THIS RESULTED IN THE DRIVER LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DRIVING INTO A DITCH. SEVERAL MECHANICS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE, AND INDICATED THAT THE 4 SPINDLE BOLTS WERE STRIPPED WHICH CAUSED THE WHEEL TO SEPARATE. *AK
I WAS DRIVING TO MY NEXT CLIENT ON ICY PAVEMENT AT 35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT HAD A HARD PEDAL, NO ABS BRAKING, NOTHING. CRASHED INTO PICK-UP TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME WHO WAS ABLE TO STOP AT LIGHT. HIS TRUCK WAS 1996 AND DID NOT HAVE ABS. IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH BRAKE FLUID AT THIS EXTREME TEMPERATURE? *NM
CRACK IN WINDSHIELD DOWN UNDERNEATH THE RUBBER THE CRACK GREW AND GREW. *BF THE GEAR SHIFT BROKE, AND THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WENT FLAT. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS AT 32,000 MILES, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE TIRES CONSTANTLY LOST PRESSURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE VALVE SYSTEM AND CLEANED THE WHEEL. THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE METAL WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. CAR CAME TO AN IMMEDIATE STOP AS IF THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED. TRAFFIC BEHIND ME HAD NO WARNING OF SUCH A RAPID DESCENT IN SPEED DUE TO NO BRAKE LIGHTS, I HAD NOT PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IN OTHER WORDS. NO ACCIDENT RESULTED BUT WE WERE LUCKY IN THAT ASPECT.*AK
FRONT & BACK BUMPERS. BOTH FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS APPEAR TO HAVE LIKE A MASKING TAPE MARKS . THE AREA IS APPROXIMATELY THE WIDTHE OF MASKING TAPE AND GOES AROUND THE EDGE OF THE FRONT BUMPERS. *AK
I OWN A 2002 PT CRUISER, WHICH WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL CONCERNING THE DASH CLUSTER GAUGES. GAUGES FAILED ON ME CAUSING ME TO RUN OUT OF FUEL ON I-285 IN ATLANTA. TOOK VEHCILE IN FOR RECALL REPROGRAMING OF THE DASH CLUSTERS WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 4000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT 24000 MILES. I HAVE BEEN WAITING OVER TWO WEEKS FOR THE DEALER TO OBTAIN THE PART NEEDED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART HAS TO BE "BURNED" INTO THE DASH ORDER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MOREOVER, THE SERVICE MANAGER WAYNE HAMMOND (770-216-9300) STATED THAT HE HAD A NUMBER OF CONSURMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN RIDING AROUND WITH A GAS CAN IN MY VEHICLE FOR FEAR OF RUNNING OUT; WITHOUT DASH OR INTERIOR LIGHTS OR GAUGES. *AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 02V268000 CONCERNING POWER STEERING HOSE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC TOOK THE KEY, WENT TO THE VEHICLE, CAME BACK AND GAVE THE CONSUMER THE KEYS. THE HOOD WAS NEVER LIFTED. *AK
PT CRUISER BALL JOINTS PREMATURELY FAILING. IMPENDING FAILURE IDENTIFIED DURING ROUTINE SNOW TIRE INSTALLATION . PROBLEM SOUNDS VERY MUCH LIKE THE DURANGO PROBLEM. SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAYS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PT CRUISER. OUR VEHICLE IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN!*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED APPROXIMATELY SEVEN YEARS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ON MY 2002 PT CRUISER STOPPED WORKING. THE DOME LIGHT AND THE WARNING SIGNALS FOR LEAVING THE HEADLIGHTS ON OR THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION ARE ALSO NOT WORKING. ALTHOUGH SOME 2002 CRUISERS WERE RECALLED FOR AN INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE, THE DEALER (FITZGERALD AUTOMALL IN GAITHERSBURG, MD) TOLD ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT COVERED. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS A FAILURE SOMEWHERE IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THAT IT WOULD NOT REPAIR AND OFFERED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE CLUSTER. I BELIEVE THAT THIS TYPE OF DEFECT SHOULD BE THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL OR REPAIRED BY CHRYSLER AT ITS EXPENSE. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER PT CRUISER. WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS WERE ACTIVATED, THE FOG LIGHTS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE IN THE WIRING PANEL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WROTE A LETTER TO THE MANUFACTURER, BUT THEY STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 86,663 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 11/24/08 *CN WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS WERE USED, THE FOG LIGHTS AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED AND WOULD NOT GO OUT FOR QUITE SOME TIME. EVENTUALLY, THE FOG LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. FOR THE PAST 4 MONTHS MY CAR FOG LIGHTS COME ON FOR NO REASON. WOKE UP IN THE MORNING AND THEY WHERE ON AND IF THEY TURN ON WHILE DRIVING IT SEEMS TO AFFECT THE RADIO NOW WHEN I SHUT OFF THE CAR I PUT TURN SIGNAL ON AND IT SEEMS TO MAKE IT STOP. *NM

WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER SMELLED GAS FUMES. CONSUMER PULLED OVER, AND SAW FUEL LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
COMPLAINT SENT VIA E-MAIL." I FIRST STARTED HAVING A SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR POWER STEERING. WHILE DRIVING, SMOKE STARTED COMING OUT OF THE HOOD, AND I THOUGHT THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. I THEN CALLED DAIMLER CHRYSLER AND TOLD THEM, AND THEY JUST SAID THAT THEY WOULD MAKE A REPORT. BUT I HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM AT ALL. HOWEVER, I TOOK MY CAR TO CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP AND THEY TEMPORARILY FIXED IT, BUT A MONTH LATER THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED MAKING A WHINING SOUND WHEN TURNING. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY PUT A NEW POWER STEERING TO FIX IT. THREE WEEKS LATER OCT 8TH 2004, I STARTED HEARING THE LOUD WHINING NOISE AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY CAR WILL CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THAT I OR MY PASSENGERS WILL BE SERIOUSLY INJURED. *JB
NO POWER STEERING AFTER VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. *BF UPON BACKING INTO A PARKING SPACE THE CONSUMER NOTICED A GRINDING SOUND WHEN SHE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL. WHEN THE CONSUMER TURNED OFF THE IGNITION SHE NOTICED A CLOUD OF SMOKE. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT HER POWER STEERING COLUMN WAS BROKEN AND IN NEED OF REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, SOON AFTER THE CONSUMER HEARD A SQUEALING SOUND AND DISCOVERED THE POWER STEERING HAD FAILED AGAIN. STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING . CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT STEERING PITMAN BAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER IT MADE A LOUD NOISE. CONSUMER PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO INTO REVERSE. CONSUMER CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD THAT VEHICLE HAD TO HAVE A BENCH INSPECTION. CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT TRANSMISSION HAD NOT BEEN SERVICED PROPERLY, AND ASSISTANCE WAS DECLINED. CONSUMER SHOWED MANUFACTURER PAPER WORK WHICH INDICATED PROPER SERVICE. CURRENTLY, CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS A SECOND OWNER VEHICLE, AND ASSISTANCE WAS DENIED AGAIN.*AK WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH THE TRASMISSION LOCKED UP WITH NO WARNING. THE VEHICLE SWERVED AND LOST ALL POWER. *TC

NHTSA RECALL 01V288000. DAIMLER/CHRYSLER ISSUED AN INSTRUMENT CLUSTER RECALL. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN ALTHOUGH IT WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. *AK
LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING SEPERATION: LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING FAILED WHILE DRIVING TO WORK THE SUDDEN FAILURE CAUSED THE CAR TO DROP ON PASSENGER SIDE. TECH AT LOCAL WAL-MART STATED THAT IF IT HAD FAILED WHEN I WAS TURNING THE REDUCED CLEARNCE WOULD HAVE CAUSED MY FRONT RIGHT CORN TO DIG INTO THE GROUND. *JB
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR A 36000 MILES CHECK UP. TWO MONTHS LATER, THE BRAKES STARTED TO SQUEAL METAL TO METAL. MECHANIC STATED THEY HAD ONLY EXAMINED THE BRAKES, AND WANTED TO CHARGE THE CONSUMER FOR THE REPAIRS. CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ROTORS HAD BEEN TURNED TOO MUCH.*AK THE CONSUMER WAS MADE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS AFTER BEING TOLD THE ROTORS WHERE TURNED TO MUCH BY THE MECHANIC. *TC
DASHBOARD BEGAN CRUMBLING ABOUT 3-4 YEARS AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR (NEW) AND IS NOW IN TERRIBLE SHAPE AND MAY BE NEAR COLLAPSING. I HAVE NOT CHECKED INTO REPLACEMENT YET. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS AND OTHER CHRYSLER-MADE CARS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER SMELLED SMOKE. THE POWER STEERING UNIT CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONSUMER WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 15 TO 20 MPH WHEN THE FIRE OCCURRED. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
I READ SEVERAL PT RELATED FORUMS AND MANY MEMBERS HAVE COMMENTED ABOUT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING FAILURES, WEEL SO HAVE MINE. I AM EXPERENCING VIBERATION FROM THE FRONT END AND WILL MAKE ARANGMENTS AT THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE FORUMS IT IS NOT A MATTER OF IF THEY WILL FAIL......BUT WHEN THEY WILL FAIL. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MATTER THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL. BASED ON CONCERNS BY OTHER PT CRUISER OWNERS, I HAVE CHECKED THE CONDITION OF THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS ON MY TWO YEAR OLD, 11,000 MILE CAR. THE RUBBER IS SEPARATING FROM THE METAL, DUE TO A POOR BOND BETWEEN THE TWO? IN ANY CASE THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE FOR A NEW CAR WITH SO LITTLE USE. I BELIEVE DAMLERCHRYSLER SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH REPAIRING SAID BUSHINGS: PARTS, INSTALLATION, EXTEND WARRANTY, WORN TIRES DUE SAID LOOSE PARTS, AND OTHER SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. HAVING OWNED MANY CARS AND QUITE A FEW NEW CARS, NEVER A PROBLELM WITH THESE COMPONENTS STARTING TO DISINTEGRATE. RIMS CORRODED ALONG THE LUGS AREA. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS WAITING ON THE MANUFACTURER TO SEND OUT AN INSPECTOR TO INVESTIGATE THE FIRE.*AK THE CHRYSLER INSPECTOR AND INSURANCE INSPECTOR BOTH REPORTED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE POWER STEERING HOSE FAILURE. THE HOSE LEAKED ONTO THE HOT EXHAUST PIPE WHICH CAUSED THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL COVERED UNDER IT'S ORIGINAL WARRANTY BUT THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE. *NM
