TL* - THE CONTACT WAS AT A STOP WITH THE GEAR IN PARK; WHEN SHE APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THE GEAR SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL. THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED ON TWO OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT HAS RESEARCHED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE RELATED TO THE 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING. THE CONTACT'S MECHANIC STATED THE FAILURE IS DUE TO A FAILURE IN THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC ON DECEMBER 18, 2006 FOR REPAIR. THE POWER TRAIN IS UNDER WARRANTY.
I OWN A 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING WITH APPROX. 35K MILEAGE. THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING FUNNY ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO. IT WOULD NOT BUDGE WHEN IN DRIVE GEAR OR WOULD STALL AT RED LIGHT. IT WAS WORSE WHEN COLD. I TOOK IT TO CHRYSLER DEALER IN GREENVALE, NEW YORK. THEY INDICATED A TRANSMISSION LEAK REQUIRING CHANGE OF TRANSMISSION OIL AND CLEANING, EVEN THOUGH CHRYSLER MANUAL ITSELF DOES NOT INDICATE TRANSMISSION SERVICE BEFORE 45K MILEAGE. THEY CHANGED THE TRANSMISSION LINES AND HOSES AND CHARGED ME OVER $400 FOR THE SERVICE. CHRYSLER FAILS TO ACKNOWLEDGE A DESIGN DEFECT REQUIRING THIS SERVICE. ULTIMATELY, I DISCOVERED THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE AND ALSO OUTRIGHT TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHICH CHRYSLER FAILS TO ADDRESS. I KNOW THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED BY NHSTA FOR 2001 CHRYSLER SEBRING REGARDING SIMILAR ISSUES. PERHAPS IT IS TIME YOU ISSUE THE SAME RECALL FOR 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING. EVEN BETTER, PLEASE ISSUE A CEASE AND DESIST ORDER AGAINST ALL AMERICAN MANUFACTURERS OF CRAP THEY CALL MOTOR VEHICLES, SO WE NEED NOT MAKE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THE FUTURE. *JB
AT 41,000 MILES MY 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING LXI 4 DOOR SEDAN REQUIRED THE REPLACEMENT OF RIGHT OUTER TIE ROD. I WAS TOLD AT THAT TIME IF IT HAD FAILED IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR AND POSSIBLY DEADLY ACCIDENT. ONE YEAR TO THE DAY - AT 47,000 MILES THE LEFT OUTER TIE ROD REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS NOR EVENTS WHICH LEAD UP TO THESE FAILURES. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SWITCH GEARS. THE NON SERVICE DEALER DETERMINED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION TO CORRECT THE ISSUE.
WAS DRIVING ALONG US 27 SOUTH IN INDIANA WHEN THE CAR MADE A TERRIABLE NOISE AND STOPPED RUNNING....MOTOR LOCKED UP....(STILL HAD ABOUT 1200 MORE MILES BEFORE THE NEXT OIL CHANGE
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, A NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR SECTION OF THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP DETERMINED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR STRUT MOUNT WAS CORRODED AND FELL APART. THE PART WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS LOCATED IN A SALT BELT STATE.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ENGINE MADE A KNOCKING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE SECOND DEALERSHIP WAS TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT DID NOT FEEL REPAIRS WERE NEEDED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE THIRD DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE THIRD DEALERSHIP REPLACED AN UNKNOWN COMPUTER PART AND PERFORMED A TUNE UP, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED AND THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS STILL PRESENT.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE MOTOR STALLED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN GEAR AND WOULD NOT RESTART. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. A MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT SLUDGE BUILT UP IN THE ENGINE CAUSED THE MOTOR TO STALL. THE MANUFACTURER DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE'S PROPER OIL LEVELS HAVE NOT BEEN MAINTAINED, HOWEVER THE CONTACT DISAGREED
SLUDGE BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE, THERE IS COOLANT LIKE INTO THE OIL LINE. WHICH HAS MADE THE OIL SPIT OUT FROM UNDER THE HEAD GASKET AND SPIT OUT ON TOP OF THE MOTOR COVER. THE WATER PUMP AND TIME CHANGE NEEDS TO BE REPLACE WHEN THEY NOTICE THE SLUDGE IN THE OIL PAN OF THE CAR. THEY IN TURN TOOK OF THE TOP OF THE ENGINE AND THE SLUDGE WAS JUST THICK AND GRITTY. I WAS TOLD BY A CHRYSLER TECHNICIAN THAT CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE 2.7 LITER ENGINES. *NM
CHRYSLER SEBRING 2002 FAILED ENGINE TWICE - ONE WAS THE RESULT THAT NOT ENOUGH OIL CHANGE AND IT BLEW THE ENGINE. THE 2ND TIME - CLAIM THE TRANSMISSION BLEW THE ENGINE, WHICH WAS TO BE UNDER WARRANTY BUT HAVE REFUSED CLAIMING THE ABUSE OF THE DRIVER THAT CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. MY BELIEVE IS THAT THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE SEBRING ENGINES. THE VEHICLE ONLY HAVE 65,000 PLUS MILES AND WE HAD ONLY HAD THE CAR BACK 3 WEEKS WHEN THE ENGINE BLEW THE 2ND TIME. THE DEALER THAT REPAIRED THIS VEHICLE HAS FAILED TO PROVIDE ME WITH ALL THE WORK THAT WAS COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE. THE COMPANY IS BOB FRENSLEY CHRYSLER IN GOODLETTSVILLE, TN - 615 859-0000. I HAVE REQUESTED THIS INFOMTION ON SERVERAL TIMES AND HAS YET BEING FAXED. THE VEHICLE IS STILL AT THIS CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP.
POWER STEERING RACK AND RUST ISSUE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE STRUT BRACKET FRACTURED AND PENETRATED THE TIRE. THE STRUT BRACKET AND TIRE WERE REPLACED.
AIR BAG FAULT LIGHT ON. CHRYSLER SAYS THAT IT IS THE SEAT BELT TENSIONER ON DRIVERS SEAT. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN CHRYSLER VEHICLES. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45MPH A DEER AND TELEPHONE POLE WERE STRUCK WITH THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DURING THE ACCIDENT HOWEVER, AN HOUR LATER BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE THEREFORE, IT IS UNCERTAIN IF THERE WAS PRE-IMPACT BRAKING. THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE WAS WEARING A SEAT BELT AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE. AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS THE VEHICLE PERFORMING AN INVESTIGATION. THE POLICE WERE ALERTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED AT THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE IS A 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING LXI.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ALUMINUM WHEELS HAVE BECOME PITTED OVER TIME WITH NORMAL USE. THE PITS ALLOWED AIR TO ESCAPE THROUGH THE SIDEWALL, WHERE THE RIM AND TIRE MEET. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE WHEELS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WITH STAINLESS STEEL IN ORDER TO AVOID THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE.
I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TIRES. THEY KEEP LEAKING AND LUG NUTS WON'T TIGHTEN. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY TWO GARAGES THAT MY RIMS ARE DEFECTIVE AND OF POOR QUALITY. RIMS ARE OXIDATED AND CORRODED ON MY 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT DRIVING THIS CAR IS DANGEROUS. *JB
2.7 LITER V6 ENGINE- SEBRING CONVERTIBLE. REGULAR OILS CHANGES AT 3000 MILES. ENGINE FAILED AT 76000 MILES ON THE CAR DUE TO WATER MIXING WITH THE OIL..(A DIRECT RESULT OF A HEAD GASKET FAILURE- I ASSUME) THE MECHANIC NOTED THAT THERE WAS SEVERE OIL SLUDGE BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST > $5000. HE ALSO INDICATED CHRYSLER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING. CHRYSLER HAS SINCE MODIFIED THIS ENGINE FOR ITS NEWER VEHICLES. *JB
WHILE SHIFTING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE, CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS IN NEUTRAL. I MUST SHIFT BACK AND FORTH TO GET VEHICLE MOVING AGAIN. THIS USUALLY IS NOT A PROBLEM BECAUSE IT USUALLY HAPPENS IN A PARKING STALL, WHERE NOT A LOT OF MOVING CARS ARE AROUND TO HIT ME. ALMOST ALWAYS AFTER THE NEUTRAL/DRIVE PROBLEM, THE TRANSMISSION WILL SHIFT DOWN HARD WHEN GOING FROM SECOND DOWN TO FIRST GEAR, CAUSING A JERKING MOTION. THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO TAKE IT INTO THE SHOP TWICE NOW, AND IT WAS DIFFERENT PROBLEMS EACH TIME. THE FIRST WAS A SENSOR, THE SECOND, A "TSB" NEEDED UPDATING. EACH TIME I TAKE IT IN, I AM GUARANTEED ABOUT A $200 CHARGE. *JB
THESE ARE SAFETY/DEFECT ISSUES REGARDING MY 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING ENGINE: I HAVE A 2.7 LITER V6 ENGINE AND I HAVE RECENTLY READ ABOUT COMMON PROBLEMS AFTER EXPERIENCING A KNOCK IN THE ENGINE. JUST TODAY, I HAD A MECHANIC LISTEN TO THE ENGINE NOISE AND HE SPECULATES THAT IT IS A ROD OR ROD BEARING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A SYMPTOM OF THE SLUDGE PROBLEM THAT YOUR WEB SITE HAS DOCUMENTED. I HAVE NOT YET CONFRONTED A CHRYSLER MAINTENANCE REP AND WOULD BE INTERESTED IN TACTICS THAT HAVE BEEN DOCUMENTED AS SUCCESSFUL. I HAVE BEEN SOMEWHAT REGULAR ABOUT OIL CHANGES, BUT I AM NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER, SO WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM PROVING THE MAINTENANCE INTERVALS. STEERING: LAST SUMMER I FIRST EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING TIGHTENING. BASICALLY THE GENERAL FEEL OF THE STEERING WAS TIGHT AND IT WOULD NOT RETURN TO A 'HOME' POSITION AFTER TURNING. A MECHANIC ESTIMATED THAT IT WOULD TAKE $1500 TO REPLACE THE RACK ASSEMBLY AND THE POWER STEERING PUMP. ON A HUNCH, I HAD THE POWER STEERING FLUID REPLACED AND WITHIN A WEEK THE STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. AROUND OCT/NOV, THE SYMPTOMS RETURNED AND I HAD ANOTHER POWER STEERING FLUID REPLACEMENT. THIS TIME THE SYMPTOMS HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT AND HAVE NOT COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED. I HAVE READ A FEW COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET OF OTHER SEBRING OWNERS HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *JB
SERIOUS CLUNKING NOISE UPON ACCELERATION / BRAKING. DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS LOOSE AND REPLACED THE LEFT FRONT LOWER ARM CONTROL. GLAD I MADE IT HOME ON MY 250 MILE DRIVE WITHOUT KILLING MYSELF OR OTHERS! *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE GAS FUMES ENTERED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND GAS SPRAYING FROM WHAT APPEARED TO BE A GASOLINE LINE NEAR THE GAS TANK WAS OBSERVED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP HOWEVER NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
I AM EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED WITH A PARTICULAR QUALITY OF MY 2002 SEBRING. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I AM BRINGING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF CHRYSLER AND I AM DEMANDING FURTHER INQUIRY AND RESOLUTION BE OFFERED ON MY REQUEST. I AM VERY ADAMANT ABOUT THIS REQUEST AS IT HAS PUT MY CHILDREN IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD CAUSE HARM OR EVEN DEATH TO OTHERS. THE PROBLEM ITSELF IS RATHER SIMPLY TO UNDERSTAND BUT CAN HAVE VERY DANGEROUS RAMIFICATIONS. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK DOES NOT HAVE A SAFETY FEATURE PREVENTING THE DRIVER DOOR TO BE LOCKED WHILE THE KEYS ARE IN THE IGNITION OR IN THE VEHICLE. ON EVERY OTHER MANUFACTURER VEHICLE I'VE OWNED THERE WAS A FEATURE THAT PREVENTED THIS FROM HAPPENING - WHETHER THE CAR WAS RUNNING OR NOT. IN THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION, MY 1 1/2 SON WAS IN HIS CAR SEAT AS MY WIFE PARKED OUR SEBRING IN FRIENDS DRIVE WAY. SHE ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED THE CAR LOCK WHILE CLOSING THE DOOR. THE CAR WAS LOCKED, WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND MY CHILD INSIDE THE CAR. IT TOOK OVER A 1/2 HOUR FOR ME TO DRIVE TO THE LOCATION WITH THE SPARE KEYS TO UNLOCK THE CAR. THIS WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND NERVE RACKING AND COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IN EXTREME HEAT OR WINTER CONDITIONS WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION. I WOULD VERY SURPRISED IF CHRYSLER HAS NOT BE NOTIFIED OF THIS COMPLAINT AND WILL BE EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED IF I DON'T RECEIVE RESOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM OR AT THE VERY LEAST A COMPENSATION FOR THE SITUATION, FRUSTRATION, TIME AND MONEY SPENT. UNFORTUNATELY TO DATE, CHRYSLER HAS NOT DONE ANYTHING OTHER THAN TO GUIDE ME TO THIS SITE. THIS SERIES OF EVENTS (IF UNRESOLVED) WILL SERIOUSLY SWAY MY DECISION OF CHRYSLER PRODUCTS IN THE FUTURE. *JB
ALL 4 INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES THE CHROME PLATING HAS SPLIT LEAVING A RAZOR SHARP FREE EDGE. PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE CAUSED A SERIOUS CUT TO A PASSENGER WHO ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE DOOR.
RECENTLY WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING LX I WAS SLOWING DOWN OFF AN EXIT RAMP AND THE CAR SUDDENLY GRABBED AT AROUND 32 MPH. I FOUND OUT BY MONITORING MY SPEEDS THAT YOU HAVE TO GO OVER 36 MPH AND SLOW DOWN TO 32 MPH FOR IT TO GRAB AND IT DOES IT EVERY TIME. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NEVER CAME ON AND HAS BEEN CHECKED FOR WORKING OPERATION. I RECENTLY HAD THE CAR TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE PUT ON A DIAGNOSTICS MACHINE WHERE THERE THEY SAID THEY CAN'T EVEN SAY WHAT IS WRONG, THEY SAID SOMETHING IS WRONG BUT FOR THE MACHINE TO NOT EVEN PICK IT UP SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT. ALL FLUIDS HAVE BEEN CHECKED BY MYSELF AND THE MECHANIC AND THEY HAVE MAINTAINED PROPER LEVEL. WE HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE MAYBE A SENSOR OR JUST TO RESET THE WHOLE CAR ALL I KNOW IS THIS IS COSTING ME LOT OF MONEY. I WANTED TO REPORT THIS CASE. THIS MAY BE A START TO A RECALL ON THE CAR. IF THE DEALER AND THE COMPUTER CAN'T FIND IT MAYBE YOU CAN HELP? *JB
THE PROBLEM TO MY CAR HAPPENED WHILE IT WAS SITTING IN THE GARAGE. MY 2002 SEBRING CONVERTIBLE HAS HAD A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE STEERING RACK AND TIE RODS AT 28,000+ MILES. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS $1800. REPAIR. A CALL TO CHRYSLER SERVICE RESULTED IN AM OFFER TO PAY FOR THE PARTS NOT THE $1000. LABOR CHARGE. I CALLED BACK TO NEGOTIATE THIS OFFER. I WAS PROMISED A CALL BACK WHICH I RECEIVED BY VOICE MAIL ASKING ME TO RETURN THE CALL AND STATING THAT WAS THERE BEST OFFER. . WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO RETURN THE CALL TO THE PERSON WHO LEFT THE MESSAGE I WAS HUNG UP ON TWICE. I AM STILL TRYING TO COMMUNICATE WITH CHRYSLER BY PHONE SO FAR AFTER SEVERAL HOURS I AM STILL UNSUCCESSFUL. AFTER CHECKING ON THE WEB I FOUND MANY INCIDENTS OF THIS KIND REPORTED BY OTHER SEBRING OWNERS. WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS OBVIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD BE LIFE THREATING? THIS IS A LIGHTLY DRIVEN CAR AND SHOULD NOT HAVE SUFFERED THIS TYPE OF DANGEROUS FAILURE. *JB
"POPPING" FELT IN STEERING. TIRES STARTING TO WEAR ON OUTSIDE. DEALERSHIP REPLACED RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY (WARRANTY) BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE ALIGNMENT NEEDED AFTER THE REPLACED. *JB
I PURCHASED THE 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING LX SEDAN IN OCTOBER 2003 USED WITH 43,000 MILES. I HAD RECEIVED FREE OIL CHANGES FROM THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR FOR TWO YEARS. I DID NOT RECEIVE ALL OF THE OIL CHANGES FOR THE TWO YEARS, BUT OIL WAS CHANGED ON A REGULAR BASIS. IN OCTOBER 2005 I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FOR THE WEEKEND WHEN I NOTICED A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I PULLED OFF THE INTERSTATE ,AND AS SOON AS I STOPPED, THE ENGINE DIED. I WAITED ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. I DROVE TO A GAS STATION AND CHECKED THE OIL, NO OIL. I PLACED TWO QUARTS OF OIL IN THE ENGINE AND DROVE HOME. OVER THE LAST 1 1/2 YEARS I HAD FOUR MECHANICS, INCLUDING CHRYSLER MECHANICS, TELL ME THAT IT NEEDED A NEW ENGINE DUE TO OIL SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. I HAVE BEEN PAYING ON THIS VEHICLE FOR OVER THREE YEARS, AND ONLY BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS, I STILL OWE $5500.00 ON THE VEHICLE, AND AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE. IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN TO A PERSON IN THE RIGHT SITUATIONS IT COULD BE DEVASTATING, AND LIVES COULD BE LOST. CHRYSLER STATED IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE NOT TAKING CARE OF THEIR VEHICLES, BUT THEY WERE AWARE THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE OIL RETURN HEATING UP THE OIL TOO FAST AND CAUSING THE OIL TO SLUDGE. TOYOTA, AUDI, VOLKSWAGEN HAVE ALL HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS, BUT THEY H OWNED UP TO THEM. THESE COMPLAINTS WERE BECOMING MORE NUMEROUS, AND WERE STARTING TO COME IN MORE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS, HOW LONG WILL THIS GO ON BEFORE SOMEBODY WAS ACTUALLY INJURED? EVERY BODY WAS MAKING MONEY OFF OF THESE ENGINES, EXCEPT THE CONSUMER. I KNOW IT SOUNDS BAD, BUT I HOPE SOMEBODY SOMEWHERE WILL GIVE THEIR LIFE TO GIVE YOU THE HINT THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE FOR THESE 2.7 LITER V6 ENGINES IN THE SEBRINGS. *AK
2ND ENGINE FAILED IN 2002 SEBRING AT 50,000 MILES I WILL NEVER EVER BUY CHRYSLER AGAIN, THIS IS A SAFETY AS WELL AS ECONOMIC ISSUE. *JB

DT:CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING.. UPON TAKING THE ENGINE APART AND INSPECTING IT, THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A BUILDUP OF SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THE CONTACT REPLACE THE ENGINE. THE MANUFACTURER NEEDED TO SEE THE OIL CHANGE RECEIPTS. THE CONSUMER SENT THE INVOICES TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONSUMER DID NOT KNOW WHAT THE MANUFACTURER OR SERVICE DEALER WAS GOING TO DO ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *AK
2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING CONV. EXPERIENCED COMPLETE LOSS OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ENGINE SHUT-OFF. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, TESTED, BUT NO REPEAT OF SYMPTOMS. OWNER REQUESTED CHRYSLER REPAIR PERSONNEL ACTUALLY DRIVE CAR. UPON DOING SO, ALL SYMPTOMS APPEARED WITH TOTAL LOSS OF ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AND NON-STARTING ENGINE. EVEN THOUGH THE PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF TO THE DEALER, THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE PROBLEM. DEALER (HARBOR CHRYSLER, VENTURA, CA) HAD CAR FOR 18 DAYS. CAR RELEASED IN NON-REPAIRED CONDITION. UPON PICKING-UP THE CAR, THE OWNER ATTACHED WRITTEN STATEMENT OF CONCERN TO THE DEALER REGARDING THE SAFETY OF OPERATING A VEHICLE THAT CAN SUDDENLY STOP OPERATING WITH COMPLETE LOSS OF ALL ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED SYSTEMS INCLUDING BRAKE LIGHTS, SIGNALS, FLASHERS, WIPERS, AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SENSORS, HEAD AND TAIL LIGHTS, ETC., AS WELL AS A NON-RUNNING/NON STARTABLE ENGINE. CHRYSLER DEALER ADVISED OWNER TO DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL THE FAILING COMPONENT(S) EXPERIENCED COMPLETE FAILURE, AT WHICH TIME THE PROBLEM COULD BE ACCURATELY DIAGNOSED. THIS TRANSLATES INTO AN OBLIGATION ON THE PART OF THE OWNER TO OPERATE AN UNSAFE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO HELP THE DEALER DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS EFFECTIVELY UNUSABLE, AS STRONG SAFETY AND LIABILITY ISSUES CONTINUE TO CONCERN DR. ROLFF, THE OWNER/DRIVER. *JB

DT: VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. IT BURNED THE ANTENNA. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER. A REPRESENTATIVE WAS SENT TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. SHE DID NOT KNOW IF SHE SHOULD GET IT FIXED OR LEAVE IT AS IT IS FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. BUT CONSUME R WANTED TO KNOW WHAT STARTED THE FIRE. DEALER DID NOT KNOW WHAT STARTED THE FIRE. HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID HE WILL TURN IN HIS REPORT AND THE MANUFACTURER WILL GET BACK TO HER WITHIN A WEEK. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT CALLED HER BACK YET. THE OPINION OF THOSE THAT LOOKED AT VEHICLE SAID IT MIGHT BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.*AK
DT: THE REAR MOUNT THAT HOLDS THE REAR MCPHERSON STRUT IN PLACE, DISINTEGRATED. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS MADE OF ALUMINUM. IT FELL APART AND THE PART MADE A RATTLE SOUND, WHICH WAS THE STRUT MOVING AROUND. THE CONSUMER WAS GOING 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED IT. *JB
AFTER DRIVING OFF THE LOT WITH A NEW 2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING LXI, CONSUMER OBSERVED A NOISE FROM THE LOWER DRIVERS SIDE AND FELT VIBRATION FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE NOISE IS A RATTLING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE METAL SLAPPING OR TAPPING AGAINST METAL. THIS OCCURS REGULARLY AT HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS ONCE THE ENGINE REACHES NORMAL OPERATIONS (AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES). THE DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THREE TIMES AND HAS NOT SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. THEY RESULTED TO SAYING THAT THE NOISE IS FROM A TRANSAXLE SPLASH GUARD, BUT THEY TRIED TO RECREATE THE NOISE BY PUSHING THE SPLASH GUARD AGAINST THE TRANSAXLE, BUT THE NOISE DID NOT DISAPPEAR. *NM
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS , MY TIRES HAVE BEEN LOSING AIR- I THOUGHT THAT PERHAPS THIS WAS CAUSED BY THE EXTREME TEMPERATURES. I CONTINUED TO MAKE SURE MY TIRES WERE AT THE CORRECT LEVEL. THREE WEEKS AGO, I HAD A BLOW-OUT WHILE TRAVELING HOME FROM ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED THE NEXT DAY... A FEW DAYS LATER, THE NEW TIRE, AS WELL AS THE OTHERS, CONTINUED TO LOSE AIR..I BROUGHT BACK TO THE SERVICE STATION AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NOW NEED ANOTHER TIRE. ALL TIRES CONTINUED TO LOSE AIR- I BROUGHT TO THE SERVICE STATION AGAIN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT ALL MY RIMS ARE CRACKING AND THE SHARP EDGES ARE CUTTING INTO THE STEM VALVES AND CAUSING MY TIRES TO GO FLAT. I HAVE NOW HAD TO REPLACE 2 TIRES THAT SHOULD HAVE LASTED ME QUITE A BIT LONGER AND THIS PROBLEM WILL CONTINUE TO OCCUR AS LONG AS MY RIMS ARE IN THE CONDITION THEY ARE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS INADVISABLE TO GO ANYWHERE LONG DISTANCE UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. I HAVE MADE AN APPOINTMENT TODAY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO INSPECT AND HOPEFULLY WORK WITH ME ON THIS DEFECTIVE ISSUE. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED ALL 4 RIMS ON THE VEHICLE ARE CORRODING. THE ALUMINUM IS SHREDDING OFF THE RIMS, WHICH IS CAUSING THE TIRES TO LOOSE AIR PRESSURE. THE LEFT REAR TIRE SEAL WILL NOT HOLD AIR AT ALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER INSPECTED THE RIMS AND AGREED THE RIMS WERE CORRODING AND WOULD REPLACE ONLY 2 OF THE RIMS HOWEVER REPAIRS WERE NOT MADE. THE VEHICLE IS NOT BEING DRIVEN.
DT: THE WHEELS CORRODED FROM THE INSIDE AT THE CENTER HUBS. THIS HAPPENED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A STATE INSPECTION LAST WEEK AND THE INSPECTOR FOUND THIS PROBLEM. CONTACTED MANUFACTURER, AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CONSUMER WAS GOING TO REPLACE ALL FOUR WHEELS, ONE WHEEL WAS ALMOST COMPLETELY CORRODED. CONSUMER WAS STILL DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS NO MAILING ADDRESS PROVIDED FOR THE DEALER BY THE CONSUMER. *AK
MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE WAS LOW AND WOULD NOT KEEP AIR. MY TIRES ARE ORIGINAL TO THE CAR. I THOUGHT THAT I JUST HAD A SLOW LEAK. TOOK THE CAR TO REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE TIRE CHECKED OUT. WAS TOLD BY TECHNICIAN AT REPAIR SHOP THAT THE CHROME IS SEVERELY PEELING OFF THE RIM CAUSING BEAD NOT TO SEAL. THE TECHNICIAN SAID HE HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT AND THAT MY WHEEL LOOKED LIKE IT WAS TEN YEARS OLD ALREADY. WAS INFORMED BY THEM THAT THE CHROME CONTINUALLY FLAKES OFF AND DOESN'T ALLOW THE BEAD TO SEAL TO THE RIM. THEY NOTED THIS PROBLEM ON MY INVOICE.
DT: WHILE DRIVING THE TIRE CAME OFF ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE DEALER SAID THE LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THEY WILL TALK TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID THEY WILL PAY FOR HALF. MANUFACTURER SAID THAT WAS THEIR BEST OFFER. LAST NOVEMBER THE CONSUMER HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE, AND TOOK IT TO DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING. DEALER DID SAY AFTER THE TIRE CAME OFF OTHER PARTS WERE DAMAGED. *AK *JB
I HAD MY STARTER REPLACED IN SEP 04 AND TODAY IT WENT BAD AGAIN. THE FIRST REPAIR COST ME OVER $500 AND ONLY THE DEALER COULD GET THE PART.

THE CONSUMER TOOK THE TIRE TO A TIRE REPAIR COMPANY, AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ALUMINUM RIM. THEY STATED THAT THE CHROME FLAKES OFF AND DOESN'T ALLOW THE BEAD TO SEAL TO THE RIM. HOSE TO POWER STEERING IS CRIMPED BY A.C. UNIT PIPE ,CAUSING POWER STEERING FLUID TO LEAK AND POWER STEERING TO FAIL. *AK
2002 CHRYSLER SEBRING ENGINE FAILED. DIAGNOSED AS EXCESSIVE OIL SLUDGE. DEALER DENIED CLAIM CITING INADEQUATE OIL CHANGES WHICH IS INCORRECT, OIL CHANGE WAS DONE WHEN SPECIFIED, OIL LIGHT NEVER HAD TO COME ON. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND HAD IT MAINTAINED. WHAT HAPPENED: THE CAR STOPPED AFTER A LOUD TAPPING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND HAD TO STOP IMMEDIATELY. I SENT COMPLAINT LETTER TO CHRYSLER'S CEO AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX. THEY WANT TO CHARGE $6000 TO REPAIR. CHRYSLER SHOULD REPLACE THOSE ENGINES. TOO MANY COMPLAINTS. I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX CAR AND I STILL HAVE A LOAN ON THE CAR BUT IT IS NOT DRIVING.
I WAS DRIVING ME CAR AND THE ENGINE LOCKED UP. I HAD NO WARNING FROM THE OIL AND ENGINE LIGHTS. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THEY SAID A BEARING IN THE PISTON HAD SPUN FROM ENGINE SLUDGE. I SAW ON LINE THAT THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THIS AND WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.*AK
ON 2/5/05 CAR STARTED TO VIBRATE EVERY TIME I APPLIED THE BRAKE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER 2/8/05. THE REP CALLED TO SAY THE CAR NEEDED BRAKE PADS AND THAT THE ROTORS COULD NOT BE TURNED BECAUSE THE PROBLEM HAD GONE ON TOO LONG. WHEN ASKED WHAT PROBLEM HE INDICATED THAT THE BRAKES HAD BEEN SCRAPING. I TOLD HIM THAT WAS NOT TRUE. HE THEN INDICATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND THAT A LOT OF SEBRINGS AND 300 M'S CAME IN FOR WARPED ROTORS. I ASKED IF THAT WERE NOT AN INDICATION THAT THE ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. HE ANSWERED, WELL YES AND NO. ON A CAR WITH LESS THAN 40,000 MILES, THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE REPLACED. MY TICKET ONLY SHOWS THAT THEY WERE REPLACED. IF THE DEALER DOES NOT REPORT POTENTIAL PROBLEMS TO THE MANUFACTURER HOW CAN CONSUMERS BE SAFE. WARPED ROTORS COULD COMPROMISE THE ABS SYSTEM AND BRING GREAT BODILY HARM TO THE DRIVER, PASSENGERS, AND ANYONE HIT BY THE VEHICLE. *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A RACK AND PINION STEERING PROBLEM. WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN THE STEERING WAS BINDING. DRIVER WOULD TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT WOULD STICK, MAKING TURNS VERY DIFFICULT. *AK
TRANSMISSION HAD A MINOR LEAK THEN ONE DAY THE CAR WOULD NOT ENGAGE IN DRIVE FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. ONCE THE CAR WAS MOVING IT HAD A VERY SUDDEN AND HARSH DOWN SHIFT WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO A STOP. NOW THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED ON A 2002 SEBRING SEDAN WITH 28000 MILES. *JB
