VEHICLE PARKED IN HOMEOWNER'S DRIVEWAY ERUPTED IN FLAMES AT APPROXIMATELY 12.45 AM ON SEPTEMBER 3RD. VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF FOR OVER FOUR(4) HOURS. ENGINE WAS RELATIVELY COOL AS IT WAS ONLY DRIVEN FOR FIVE MINUTES PRIOR TO 8 PM ON THE 2ND OF SEPTEMBER. NEIGHBOR WHO CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORTED SEEING SPARKS EMANATING FROM UNDER THE HOOD BEFORE IT BURST INTO FLAMES WHICH DESTROYED THE CAR. THIS ALSO DAMAGED THE OTHER VEHICLE PARKED AHEAD OF THE TOWN AND COUNTRY. *TR
THIS MINIVAN IS EQUIPPED WITH A FACTORY INSTALLED, ELECTRIC 3RD ROW SEAT. IT IS A SPLIT (2/3 -1/3) CONFIGURATION. THE SWITCHES TO CONTROL THESE SEATS ARE ON THE LEFT REAR PANEL JUST INSIDE THE DOOR JAM. THE OPTIONS ARE: STOW, NORMAL OR REAR FACING. YOU CAN CONTROL ONE OR BOTH SEATS FOR EACH OPTION BY USE OF THE ROCKER SWITCH POSITION. BOTH SEATS WERE IN THE NORMAL (UPRIGHT) POSITION AND LUGGAGE WAS STORED BEHIND THE SEAT. A CHILD SEAT WAS SITTING ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE REAR SEAT. WHEN ROUNDING A TURN, A PIECE OF LUGGAGE FELL INTO THE SWITCH PANEL AND THE SEAT STARTED TO STOW, IT WAS COMPRESSING THE CHILD SEAT. I WAS SHOCKED THAT IT DIDN'T STOP OR REVERSE ITSELF AS A FRICTION CLUTCH WOULD. I.E LIKE ONE OF THE 3 ELECTRIC DOORS ON THIS VEHICLE WOULD. INSTEAD THE MOTORS KEPT TURNING AND SKIPPING ON THEIR GEARS (MACHINE GUN SOUND). TRYING TO SHUT OFF THE SWITCHES HAD NO EFFECT. THIS IS A CRUSHING HAZARD. *TR

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH 2014. ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER IT WOULD NOT START, I HAD TO GET A JUMP TO GET IT TO START. THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY, I PURCHASED A NEW ONE AND I WAS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING IT. I HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING IT TODAY AND I HAVE HAD IT PARKED FOR OVER A MONTH. IT WOULD ALSO STALL WHEN I WOULD DRIVE IT SOMETIMES. I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND PAID $150.00 TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. IT TURNS OUT IT IS THE TIPM AND IT WILL COST ME $1,300 TO GET IT REPAIRED! AFTER READING UP ON THIS PROBLEM I NOTICED THERE ARE ALOT OF OTHER WITH THE SIMILAR PROBLEM. I PURCHASED THIS VAN FOR MY GROWING FAMILY AND NOW I CANT EVEN DRIVE IT SINCE I DONT FEEL SAFE ESPECIALLY WITH MY KIDS, LET ALONE PAY $1,300 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. *TR

THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED 10 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE USED VEHICLE IN 8/2014. IT HAS HAPPENED AT STOPLIGHTS AND WHILE I'VE BEEN DRIVING. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH GO OUT, THEY ALL COME BACK ON LIKE YOU ARE JUST STARTING THE VAN AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS GO OFF AS WELL. IT HAS HAPPENED WHEN I'VE BEEN IN PARK, MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC, DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD (45 MPH) AND WAITING AT A STOPLIGHT. MOST RECENTLY ON 2/6/15 IT DID IT 2 TIMES WHILE I SAT AT THE SAME STOPLIGHT. I HAVE NOTHING ADDITIONAL HANGING FROM THE KEY FOB AND EVEN TRIED THE 2ND KEY FOB I HAVE AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS. *JS

WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD A WARNING CAME ON THE DASH THAT STATED THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM ON THE MIRRORS NEED ADJUSTMENTS. THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE MIRRORS WENT ON FOR NO REASON AND AT TIMES STAYED ON. WHEN I WOULD TURN ON THE BLINKER, THE WARNING SOUND WOULD BEEP WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING NEXT TO ME TO SET THE ALARM OFF. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND THE SENSORS EXTREMELY HOT. HE STATED THE SENSORS WERE SO HOT, HE COULDN'T TOUCH THEM WITH BARE HOUNDS. MY MECHANIC THOUGHT IT WAS SUCH A PROBLEM THAT HE DISCONNECTED THEM. WHEN I CALLED THE CHRYSLER DEALER, THEY SAID THE SENSORS WERE PROBABLY CORRODED AND IT SHOULDN'T BE A BIG DEAL. IT SEEMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND A POTENTIAL SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. AFTER FIVE MINUTES AND SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER RESTART. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TIPM MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
STOPPED AT WALMART AND COULD NOT REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED FROM THERE TO BE WORKED ON. COST TO HAVE REPAIRED WAS PARTS $176.04 PLUS $313.34 LABOR. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AFTER KEY WAS STUCK. *TR
THE ISSUES WITH MY 2011 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY BEGAN AS A SERIES OF ODD "QUIRKS": THE RADIO AS WELL AS THE ELECTRONIC AC AND ELECTRIC WINDOWS WOULD ALL FUNCTION AS IF THEY HAD A MIND OF THEIR OWN; FREQUENTLY POWERING ON AND OFF OR ADJUSTING WHILE DRIVING. IT WAS CERTAINLY MORE OF A NUISANCE THAN SAFETY RISK. WITHIN THE LAST 2-3 WEEKS, WE HAVE HAD SEVERE ISSUES IN STARTING THE CAR ALTOGETHER. THAT PROMPTED A VISIT TO OUR CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP WHO DIAGNOSED A FAULTY TIPM (TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). THE FIX ALONE IS MAJOR AND WILL COST IN EXCESS OF $1,000, ALL ON A LESS THAN THREE YEAR OLD CAR. WE ARE FURTHER HINDERED BY THE FACT THAT THE PART IS BACK-ORDERED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, AND THE MECHANIC EXPLAINED IT COULD EVEN BE "MONTHS DUE TO PARTS SHORTAGES FROM AN EXCESSIVE NUMBER OF REPLACEMENTS TAKING PLACE ACROSS THE COUNTRY." HE SAID WE COULD DRIVE IT IN THE MEANTIME BUT AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND SEEING INCIDENTS OF AIRBAGS RANDOMLY DEPLOYING AND CARS SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT NOTICE WHILE IN MOTION, I AM NOT COMFORTABLE DRIVING IT. IT APPEARS THIS IS AN ISSUE CHRYSLER IS WELL AWARE OF BUT THIS SHOULD RESULT IN AN ALL OUT RECALL, NOT AN INTERNALLY LEAD INVESTIGATION. *TR

THE DEALER DID NOT GIVE A SPECIFIC DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED DATE FOR WHEN THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WOULD RECEIVE THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

WE HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR SINCE JULY 2014. THE CAR SIMPLY WON'T START AT TIMES. AFTER SOME TIME PASSES, IT WILL START. WHILE IT WON'T START, ALL THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND BATTERY IS FINE. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 20 TIMES (MOST RECENTLY BOTH 12/27 AND 12/28). THE DEALER HAS TRIED MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS (UPGRADED SOFTWARE, REPLACED WIN AND TIPM, REPLACED GROUND WIRE). THIS SITUATION IS NOT SAFE. MY WIFE IS CARRYING 5 KIDS AROUND (3 IN CAR SEATS). SHE HAS BEEN STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES (WHILE PREGNANT AND NOW WITH AN INFANT). I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR, AND WHO KNOWS IF THE POWER WILL SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR IS UNDERWAY. *TR

CAR WILL NOT START NORMALLY EITHER FIRST THING IN THE MORNING OR DURING DAY. WILL TAKE 5 TO 10 MINUTES OF ATTEMPTING TO GET CAR STARTED. BATTERY WILL DIE FOR NO APPARENT REASONS IF LEFT UN-DRIVEN FOR A FEW HOURS OR DAYS. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT CHRYSLER SERVICE CENTER FOR NOW 4 WEEKS WITH NO SOLUTION ON HAND. THEY CLAIM IT IS CAUSED BY A ELECTRICAL DRAW AND NEED TO WORK ON EVERY RELAY AND SYSTEM TO IDENTIFY ITS SOURCE. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER CORPORATE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON HOW TO RESOLVE, NO RESPONSE YET; IT HAS BEEN OVER A WEEK. I HAVE SUGGEST THAT PROBLEM CAN BE RELATED THE BROADER TIPM ISSUE AFFECTING MANY CHRYSLER/JEEP VEHICLE. SERVICE ADVISER HAD NO INTEREST AND STATED THEY MUST CHECK EVERY SYSTEM AS STATED BY MANUFACTURER. *TR
IT SEEMS TO BE THE SAME ISSUE THAT WAS RECALLED IN THE 2008, 2009, 2010 CHRYSLER TOWN AND COUNTRY VEHICLES. THE KEY IS VERY LOOSE IN THE IGNITION AND MOVES AROUND CAUSING THE POWER TO GO OUT IN THE CAR. I SPOKE TO SEVERAL DEALERS WHICH TOLD ME IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE VEHICLES THAT WERE RECALLED IN PREVIOUS YEARS. THE CAR HAS TO BE REPAIRED AND THE QUOTED REPAIR WAS APPROXIMATELY $400 BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT LAST EVENING. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR CLOSES ON IT OWN. WHEN YOU OPEN THE POWER SLIDING DOOR IN ANY OF THE 4 AVAILABLE WAYS, THE DRIVERS OVERHEAD BUTTON, DOOR POST BUTTON, PULLING AND RELEASING THE DOOR HANDLE OR WITH THE KEY FOB BUTTON THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR OPENS GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FULL OPEN POSITION AND THEN CLOSES ON ITS OWN. THIS IS NOW HAPPENING EVERY TIME THE DOOR IS OPENED. *TR

IN AUGUST 2014 AND AGAIN IN JANUARY 2015 I RECEIVED LETTERS FROM CHRYSLER CONCERNING A RECALL FOR THE REAR QUARTER VENT WINDOW SWITCH. I'VE CHECKED REGULARLY WITH MY DEALER WHO KEEPS TELLING ME THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER. AS THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD I AM GREATLY CONCERNED IT IS TAKING SO LONG TO RESOLVE

THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT ON ONE OCCASION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE WIRELESS IGNITION MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
THE TURN SIGNAL LENSES ON THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS, FALL OFF, GREATLY DIMINISHING THE BRILLIANCE OF THE TURN SIGNAL.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, A FAULT APPEARED IN THE DASH STATING THAT THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION SYSTEM NEEDED SERVICE. THE BLIND SPOT INDICATORS IN EACH SIDE VIEW MIRROR STAYED ILLUMINATED. AT NIGHT THESE ORANGE LIGHTS ARE DISTRACTING TO THE DRIVER. SINCE THEY ARE ALWAYS ILLUMINATED, IT CAUSES THE DRIVER TO SECOND-GUESS WHETHER A LANE CHANGE CAN BE MADE OR NOT EVEN AFTER CHECKING THE BLIND SPOT. TOOK THE VAN IN TO BE SERVICED AT A CHRYSLER DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DETERMINED THAT THE BLIND SPOT DETECTION MODULE IS DAMAGED DUE TO WATER GETTING INSIDE AND SHORTING IT OUT. THE MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF OVER $1,200. HE ALSO STATED THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND GAVE ME THE CHRYSLER STAR CASE([XXX]) DOCUMENTATION THAT THEY HAVE FROM CHRYSLER. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DESIGN DEFECT AS THE MODULE IS NOT DESIGNED TO GET WET BUT IS LOCATED IN A LOCATION THAT ALLOWS IT TO GET WET. REPLACING THIS WOULD NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM, IT WOULD ONLY LEAD ME TO REPLACE IT IN ANOTHER FEW YEARS, NOT TO MENTION THE MODULE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN DISABLED THE SYSTEM VIA THE CONSOLE CONTROLS, WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF THE INDICATOR LIGHTS CONSTANTLY BEING ON. HOWEVER, THIS HAS LED TO ANOTHER SAFETY CONCERN IN THAT THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR THREE YEARS WITH THE DETECTION SYSTEM ENABLED AND IS USED TO SEEING THE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED WHEN A VEHICLE IS PRESENT IN THE BLIND SPOT. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER BUT THEY WOULD NOT HELP OUT WITH THE COST OF THE REPAIR. DUE TO THIS ISSUE BEING SAFETY-RELATED, THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THE ISSUE WITH THEIR OWN SERVICE CASE, AND THE FACT THAT THE REPAIR IS PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE FOR MOST OWNERS, THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOULD RESULT IN A RECALL AND BE REPAIRED AND THE ROOT ISSUE SOLVED BY CHRYSLER SO THAT THE ISSUE DOES NOT KEEP RE-OCCURRING. ON JULY 3, 2014 I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AT CROTON AUTO PARK SERVICE DEPT, CROTON, NY AND SHOWED THEM MY RECALL NOTICE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WIRE HAD BEEN DISCONNECTED AND THAT WHEN THE PART CAME IN I WOULD BE CONTACTED. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR AND 1 MONTH AND AM STILL WAITING TO BE CALLED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO MAKE REPAIRS TO THE DEFECTED ELECTRICAL WIRES. UPON MY LAST VISIT AROUND JUNE 2015 TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY STILL HAD NOT RECEIVED THE PARTS, MY NAME WAS ON A LIST AND THAT CHRYSLER WAS BACKED UP MAKING THE CORRECTED PART.
