I bought this vehicle after only having 28,000 miles on it required the water pump to be replaced. That should not be the case. The vehicle started running hot again after having the original water pump replaced about a year ago. At this point I had only put an additional 12,000 miles on the vehicle. Now the company that put the water pump on is saying I need a new engine on a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles on it. This should not be the case and I'd like the NHTSA look into this as a faulty engine from the manufacturer.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Challenger. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, she smelled a burning oil odor. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the oil filter housing adapter was leaking and needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
MY 2014 DODGE CHALLENGER OVER HEATED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND FILLED THE RESERVOIR WITH ANTIFREEZE. I DROVE LESS THAN A MILE DOWN THE ROAD AND IT OVER HEATED AGAIN.WHEN I CHECKED THE RESERVOIR IT WAS EMPTY. SO I PULLED OVER AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT I NEED TO HAVE THE OIL FILTER/ OIL COOLER ADAPTER HOUSING, INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET REPLACED. THIS WILL COST ME $788. THE PART I NEED IS ON BACK ORDER FROM THE MANUFACTURER. IN FACT THERE ARE OVER 34,000 OF THIS PARTICULAR PART ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE THIS IS SUCH A COMMON ISSUE WITH CHRYSLER, JEEP, AND DODGE CARS. HE WAS SHOCKED THAT THIS PART HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED YET. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN THIS PART IS RECALLED. IF I PAY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX THIS VERY COMMON ENGINE ISSUE, WILL I GET REIMBURSED ONCE IT IS RECALLED?

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED YET. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. FAULTY LIFTERS HAVE DAMAGED THE CAMSHAFT, CAUSING MISFIRING AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS OF REPAIR COSTS FOR A CAR WITH ONLY 76,000 MILES. LIFTERS ARE ON BACK ORDER FOR 6-8 MONTHS.
HAVE A 2014 CHALLENGER 60,900 MILES AND THE OIL FILTER HOUSING ASSEMBLY STARTED LEAKING OIL. HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALSO THE TRANSMISSION IS NOW STARTING TO NOT SHIFT PROPERLY.
2014 DODGE CHALLENGER SRT WITH 17505 MILES ON IT FROM NEW. WITHOUT WARNING, FUEL PUMP CUT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH; MOTOR DIED AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN (INCLUDING POWER STEERING). LUCKILY, WAS ABLE TO COAST TO STOP ON HIGHWAY SHOULDER WITHOUT CRASH. HAD IT NOT BEEN A WEEKEND WITH LIGHT TRAFFIC, COULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD. FUEL PUMP DIAGNOSIS PROVIDED BY DEALER TWO-DAYS LATER AFTER CAR WAS TOWED TO SHOP.

HEAR A TAPPING IN THE ENGINE SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE LIFTERS NEED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT MY WARRANTY EXPIRED 2 MONTHS AGO. THEY ALSO SAID THAT IF I KEEP DRIVING IT THE CAM SHAFT WILL BREAK AND MOTOR WILL SEIZE AND THEY ALSO TOLD ME THEY ARE HAVING A LOT OF THESE 5.7 LITER ENGINES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.

THE CAR WAS READING ABOUT 200 MILES TO EMPTY. THE FUEL SENSORS /PUMPS WERE NOT WORKING AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. AT IDLE IT RUNS ROUGH, WAS COMPARED TO LIKE VEHICLE THE IDLE IS NOT CORRECT. THE MILEAGE PER GALLON IS WAY UNDER THE ADVERTISED. ADVERTISED FUEL ECONOMY SHOWING 21 MPG COMBINED CITY/HWY. WE GET ABOUT 16 MPG CITY/HWY. WE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND NO ONE IS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUES AS THE CAR SEEMS TO BE A LEMON. WE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 4 TIMES NOW. THE TICKING, CLIPPING, SEWING MACHINE NOISE IS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE,IT'S LOUD AND CLEARLY HEARD IN THE CAB AT AROUND 1500RPM AND UP. STAR CASE TAB REMOVAL WAS PERFORMED, NO GOOD.NEXT LIFTERS AND MDS SOLENOIDS WAS REPLACED STILL NO GOOD. NOW ALONG WITH THE TICKING NOISE I HAVE LOUD SPARK KNOCK IN MDS MODE ON PASSENGER SIDE. HAVE BURNT OIL SMELL AFTER ATTEMPTED REPAIRS. DEALER AND DODGE REP SAYS ALL IS NORMAL. WHY WAS ALL THESE REPAIRS ATTEMPTED TO FIX MY ENGINE NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN IT'S ALL NORMAL?
