I HAVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO R/T. I ONLY HAVE 31,000 MILES ON MY DURANGO AND THE TRANSMISSION IS POURING FLUID OUT. APPARENTLY THERE IS A STANDARD DEFECT IN ALL DURANGOS REGARDING SEALS FOR THE TRANSMISSION. ALL THE RINGS HAVE TO BE REPLACED WHICH REQUIRES PULLING OUT THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION. I RARELY DRIVE MY VEHICLE, MAYBE A FEW TIMES A WEEK. TO THE STORE ETC. SEEMS TO ME THAT SINCE DODGE IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION THEN THEY SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING TO HELP FIX THEM. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING AFTER 31,000 MILES. BEING AN R/T I PAID ALMOST $28,000 FOR IT WHEN IT WAS ALMOST 2 YEARS USED WITH 18,000 MILES ON IT. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE! I READ COMPLAINTS AT CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND SAW THAT I AM NOT ALONE. MY 6 PERSON FAMILY LIVES ON ONE SMALL INCOME. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT AND DRIVE IT VERY LITTLE. WE CAN NOT AFFORD THIS EXPENSE. I DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA HOW WE CAN COME UP WITH THE MONEY TO FIX THIS. AND THE FACT THAT DODGE KNOWS ABOUT THIS COMMON PROBLEM MAKES IT EVEN WORSE! *JB
ODD STEERING FEEL AND INTERMITIN NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT END. AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC IT WAS OUND THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINTS ON THE VEHICLE (2000 DODGE DURANGO) WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT READY TO SEPARATE. ALSO THE UPPER BALL JOINTS HAD WORN TO THE POINT OF REPLACEMENT. VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT THE NECESSARY REPAIRS MADE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AND TURNING TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT CONSUMER HEARD LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, THEY INDICATED THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE THE BALL JOINTS. *AK
FRONT END PRODUCES A LOUD POPPING NOISE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 15 MPH THE PASSENGER'S ELECTRICAL SIDE DOOR WOULD LOCK. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE KEY WAS INSERTED INTO THE DOOR THE LOCK FAILED TO OPEN. THE DRIVER USED THE REMOTE CONTROL TO UNLOCK THE DOORS. THE DRIVER HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR LOCK PROBLEMS BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DOOR ACTUATOR WAS REPLACED. CURRENTLY THE RIGHT REAR DOOR LOCK WAS BROKEN AND DODGE WOULD NOT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY. THE DOORS COULD NOT BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH A BANGING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE REAR. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. *AK
CONSUMER WILL PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE BALL JOINTS.
WHILE DRIVING THERE WAS SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE, DEALERSHIP HAS INSPECTED SEVERAL TIMES AND STATED NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.
I DRIVE A 2000 DODGE DURANGO AND HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. BRKAES, TRANSMISSON AND UPPER BALL JOINTS, WHICH THEY DO NOT WISH TO FIX AND IT IS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALERSHIP AND HAVE HAD KNOW LUCK ON THEM FIXING IT. THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE( BALL JOINTS ) BUT THEY KNOW IT HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SOMETIME. YOU PAY BIG DOLLARS FOR A VEHICLE AND EXPECT SAFETY BUT ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY NOT THE CONSUMERS SAFETY OR NOT. NOR IS IT ABOUT THE COST WE HAVE TO PAY OUT FOR DEFECTS AND NOT NORMAL WEAR. I HOPE FOR MYSELF AND MANY OTHERS YOU LOOK CLOSELY INTO THIS MATTER AND FORCE THE MANUFACTURE TO RECALL THESE DEFECTS. THANK YOU FROM A VERY CONCERNED CONSUMER.*AK
FRONT END PRODUCED A KNOCKING NOISE. *AK
WHEN DRIVING AT AN UNETERMINED SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT RIGHT UPPER BALL JOINTS FAILED. *AK
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO GET NEW TIRES. THE DEALER COULD NOT ALIGN THE FRONT END DUE TO METAL FATIGUE OF THE UPPER BALL JOINTS. THE UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE THE VIN# ALONG WITH ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *NM
WHILE TURNING VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THE PROBLEM PERTAINED TO THE FRONT BALL JOINTS FAILURE. *AK
THERE WAS A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY REPLACED THE BALL JOINTS.*AK *LA
DESPITE REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THE ENGINE ON MY 2000 DURANGO NEEDED REPLACING. DEALER SAYS "SHOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED". AFTER DOING SOME INTERNET RESEARCH, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN, HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE AND DODGE IS DENYING ALL RESPONSIBILITY.*AK
CRACKED CYLINDER HEADS. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR MY VEHICLE TO BE FIXED @ THE DEALERSHIP FOR 2 WEEKS NOW. THEY HAVE INFORMED ME THAT THEY HAVE NO ETA ON THE CYLINDER HEADS BECAUSE THEY ARE ON A NATION WIDE BACK ORDER. SO THAT INDICATES THERE IS A NATION WIDE PROBLEM WITH DODGE DURANGOS AND THEIR CYLINDER HEADS. I FEEL THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE PARTS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER. WHILE CHANGING LANES AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEED, VEHICLE LUNGED TOWARDS THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND NEARLY WENT OUT OF CONTROL. UPON EXAMINATION OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION, EXCESSIVELY WORN UPPER BALLS JOINTS WERE DETERMINED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 46,000 MILES ON IT. *JB
2000 DODGE DURANGO WITH 55,000 MILES HAD OIL SLUDGE BUILD-UP DUE TO FAULTY DESIGN RESULTING IN ZERO OIL PRESSURE. OIL PAN SCREEN SO FILLED WITH CARBON BUILD-UP, IT REQUIRED REPLACEMENT $455 SERVICE BILL REIMBURSEMENT DENIED BY DEALER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, I HAVE FOUND 100'S OF CASES DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM.CONCERNED ABOUT POTENTIAL REPLACEMENT OF THE ENGINE IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THE SERVICE MANANGER INSISTED WE DIDN'T FOLLOW THE PROPER OIL CHANGE SCHEDULE, TRIED TO TELL US WE HAD TO FOLLOW A 2003 CAR/MINI VAN SCHEDULE. WE TOLD HIM WE FOLLOWED THE SCHEDULE IN OUR OWNER'S MANUAL.
WHEN MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN FRONT END PRODUCES A KNOCKING NOISE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE'S STEERING BOX BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE LOST CONTROL ENDING UP IN A DITCH. NO REPORT OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT OR INJURIES.*MR
DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT FRONT UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE WORN OUT. CONSUMER WAS NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ALS, STEERING WHEEL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY JERK AWAY FROM THE CONSUMER WITHOUT WARNING. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE FELL OFF. AS A RESULT, VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND LANDED IN A DITCH. *AK
AS I WAS DRIVING, THE WHEEL OF MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO CAME OFF THE CAR AND CAUSED THE CAR TO LOSE CONTROL AND LAND IN A DITCH. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE UPPER BALL JOINT.*AK
ENGINE MUST BE REPLACED DUE TO SLUDGE BUILD UP. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT COVER REPAIR EXPENSES. *AK
UPPER BALL JOINTS BROKE WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL JERKED BACK AND FORTH. *AK
WITHOUT WARNING, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WHEEL FELL OFF OF MY 2000 DODGE DURANGO WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN AND TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES AND THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A SEPARATION OF THE UPPER BALL JOINT. THE FAILURE CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE LOWER BALL JOINT, THE TIE ROD, THE FRONT AXLE, THE BRAKE LINE, THE WHEEL AND THE TIRE. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 4 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND 1 YEAR OLD SON IN THE CAR. WE WERE 1/4 MILE FROM TAKING A RAMP TO THE RIGHT AND ENTERING A 65 MPH EXPRESSWAY. I COULD HAVE LOST ONE OR BOTH OF MY CHILDREN TODAY DUE TO CHRYSLER'S NEGLIGENCE.*AK *NM EA03-023
WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *SC *JB
TRANSMISSION ON 2000 DODGE DURANGO WOULD NOT SHIFT FROM 1 TO 2. TOOK TO SHOP AND SECOND GEAR IS COMPLETELY GONE. TRANSMISSION FAIURE AT 50000 MILES.*AK
DRIVER HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION OF VEHICLE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT FRONT UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT VEHICLE LOST OIL PRESSURE, WOULD SHAKE, AND STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ENGINE DIED DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE. *AK THE DEALER NEVER TOOK APART THE MOTOR, ONLY THE FUEL INJECTOR AND SPARK PLUGS. THE VEHICLE WAS IN FOR A CRANK SENSOR REPAIR A WEEK OR TWO BEFORE THE OIL PUMP PROBLEM OCCURRED. *SC
MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT UPPER BALL JOINTS WORE OUT PREMATURELY. ALSO, WHEEL BEARINGS AND THE INNER/OUTER TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WEARING OF BALL JOINTS IN 2000 DODGE DURANGO. *JB
TWICE I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD REPLACED DUE TO FAILURE OF THE WINDSHIELD CRACKING DUE TO USING THE DEFROST DURING THE WINTER SEASONS. *NM
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE DOORS DUE TO ELECTRIC LOCK FAILURE. *AK
WHILE COMING HOME FROM VACATION IN VERMONT IN OUR 2000 DODGE DURANGO THE CHECK GAUGE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE OIL PRESSURE LIGHT DROPPED TO 0. WE IMMEDIALTY PULLED OVER AND CHECKED THE OIL AND IT WAS FULL. MY HUSBAND HAD JUST CHANGED THE OIL A WEEK EARLIER. WE STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL FOR A MILE OR TWO WHEN NOW THE OIL PRESSURE WAS JUMPING UP AND DOWN. WE PULLED THE CAR OVER IMMEDIATLY AND CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AFTER 2 HOURS IN THE COLD WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALER IN VERMONT. WHERE ARE CAR STILL IS. WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS SLUDGE BUILD UP AND THE OIL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEN AFTER FURTHER REVIEW WE NEED A NEW ENGINE OR THEY COULD PATHC IT TOGETHER WITH NO GUARRENTY WE WILL NOT NEED A NEW ENGINE IN THE FUTURE. I DID SOME INVESTIGATING AND FOUND THIS IS A REOCCURING PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. DAIMLERCHRYSLER WOULD DO NOTHING FOR US AND BLAMED IT ON NEGLECT. MY HUSBAND DOES REGULAR MAINTENANCE ON THE VEHICLE AND IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY 3 1/2 YEARS OLD WITH 67,000 MILES. I'M FURIOUS THAT DODGE IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND IS SELLING THIS VEHICLE TO CONSUMERS.*AK
BRAKE ROTORS WARPED PREMATURELY. CONSUMER HAD THE ROTORS REPAIRED FOUR TIMES, BUT DEALERSHIP DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE PARKING CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED UPPER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK *LA
AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE DID NOT REGISTER. THE VEHICLE HAD NO OIL PRESSURE. THE CONSUMER TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF AND CHECKED THE OIL AND THERE WAS SLUDGE BUILD UP. THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED THE ENGINE WILL BECOME DEFECTIVE EVEN THOUGH THE MAINTENANCE WAS CONTINUOUS ON THE VEHICLE. *JB
I PREVIOUSLY COMPLAINED ABOUT STEERING PROBLEM WITH 2000 DODGE DURANGO. I PAID NEARLY $2,000.00 IN OCTOBER 2003 TO HAVE PROBLEM FIXED. IT STILL PULLED TO THE LEFT. MECHANIC SAID THAT IT WAS BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE WORN OUT. I JUST BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT REAL BAD. I WENT BACK TO THE TIRE STORE THEY REPLACED THE FRONT LEFT TIRE AND I STILL HAVE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY AND MY FAMILIES SAFETY. WHEN I GO OVER A BUMP OR TRAIN TRACK OR GROOVE IN THE ROAD MY CAR JUMPS TO THE LEFT. *AK
2000 DODGE DURANGO. AT ABOUT 69,000 MILES THE VEHICLE HEATER SUDDENLY WENT COLD AND THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED. I PULLED OVER AND CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE LOST ALL ANTIFREEZE. TOWED IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY FOUND THAT A FREEZE PLUG HAD A HOLE IN IT. AFTER REPAIR, FOUND THAT THE FREEZE PLUG HAD CORROSION AND ACTUALLY RUSTED THROUGH. DEALER SAID IT WAS DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENENCE. IMPOSSIBLE, FREEZE PLUGS ARE NOT MAINTAINED AND COOLLANT HAS A LIFE OF 100,000 MILES. IN ADDITION, A FREEZE PLUG SHOULD BE GALVANIZED/ALUMINIZED TO PREVENT CORROSION. VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED. HOWEVER, BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, I WONDER IF THIS IS THE REASON THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING VEHICLES BLOW UP. I BELIEVE THAT THE SLUDGE IS THE RESULT OF THE OVERHEATED OIL AND THAT IS WHY THE VEHICLES ARE BLOWING UP. NOT BECAUSE OF LACK OF OIL CHANGES. AFTER THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE FOUND THAT MY ENGINE IDLES SLIGHTLY ROUGH. THIS SEEMS LIKE A GOOD INDICATOR OF BLOWN SEALS CAUSING OIL LEAKAGE AND OF OVERLY HEATED OIL CREATING SLUDGE.*AK
CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT UPPER BALL JOINTS FAILED. *AK
MY WIFE WAS TRAVELLING AT 65 MPH ON A CLEAR DAY, ON DRY PAVEMENT WHEN TRAFFIC REDUCED SPEED AHEAD OF HER. SHE SLOWED BY GRADUALLY APPLYING THE BRAKES. WHILE APPLYING ADDITIONAL BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN, BUT NOT AT A RATE SUFFICIENT TO PREVENT A COLLISION. THE 2000 DODGE DURANGO 4X4 IS EQUIPPED WITH ABS, WHICH DID NOT ACTUATE AT ANY TIME WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW. PRIOR TO THE COLLISION, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS PRESSING AS FIRMLY AS POSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DODGE DEALER WHERE THE BRAKES AND ABS WERE CHECKED. THE INITIAL RESPONSE WAS THAT VEHICLES WITH ABS DO NOT STOP THE SAME AS VEHICLES WITHOUT ABS; IF PRESSURE IS GRADUALLY APPLIED, THE ANTI-LOCK FEATURE WILL NOT ACTIVATE. THE BRAKES MUST BE RELEASED AND THEN APPLIED RAPIDLY TO ACTIVATE THE ABS. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS IS OPERATING PROPERLY BUT THE FRONT ROTORS WERE OUT OF ROUND. THE ROTORS WERE CAUSING THE BRAKES TO GRAB, CAUSING THE ABS TO ACTIVATE. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED WITH OEM PADS, AND THE FRONT ROTORS WERE RESURFACED. FOLLOWING REPAIRS, MY WIFE AND I TESTED THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER THE INITIAL CONDITION OF FAILURE COULD BE DUPLICATED. DURING THIS TEST, THE ABS WAS ACTIVATED SEVERAL TIMES. IT SHOULD BE NOTED HERE THAT THE ABS HAD NEVER BEEN ACTIVATED IN THE 14 MONTHS OF OWNERSHIP PRIOR TO THIS TEST. I HAD MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO DETERMINE WHETHER, UNDER SIMILAR 'SIMULATED' CONDITIONS, SHE WOULD ACTIVATE THE ABS, UNDER SUFFICIENT BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE. SHE WAS ABLE TO ACTIVATE THE ABS EACH TIME THE GRADUAL INCREASE IN BRAKE PEDAL PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. WE BELIEVE THERE IS STILL A RELIABILITY QUESTION OF THE ABS ON THE DODGE DURANGO AND THAT THE VEHICLE MAY FAIL TO REDUCE SPEED SUFFICIENTLY TO AVOID A COLLISION UNDER CONDITIONS WHICH SHOULD POSE NO SAFETY CONCERN AND WE ARE QUESTIONING THE SAFETY OF CONTINUING TO DRIVE OUR 2000 DODGE.*AK
AUTOMOBILE IS POORLY MANUFACTURED. I AM GETTING OVER RAN WITH REPAIRS BILLS OF PART S THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL. IN 40 YEARS OF DRIVING AND BUYING AUTO I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A POORLY BUILT CAR.*AK
2000 DODGE DURANGO 4X4 UPPER RIGHT BALL JOINT SEVERELY WORN, HAD TO REPLACE.*AK
EXCESSIVE INSIDE FRONT TIRE WEAR, AND BALL JOINT SEPERATION. BALL JOINT SEPERATED WHILE DRIVING. NEARLY CAUSED ACCIDENT. NO INDICATION OF PENDING FAILURE. EA03-023
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK MECHANISM FAILURE. I HAVE HAD TWO AUTO LOCK MECHANISM FAILURES ON MY 2000 DURANGO. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE - I CAN NOT OPEN THE DOOR - IN AN EMERGENCY THIS COULD BE CRITICAL.*AK
I HAVE A FAMILY OF FIVE AND BOUGHT A DURANGO TO SAFELY TRANSPORT THEM. I AM STARTING TO HEAR THE FRONT SUPENSION CREEKING AND POPPING. BEING NO STRANGER TO AUTOMOBILES I AM SURE IT IS THE BALLJOINTS. I DONT HAVE TO PAY A MECHANIC TO TELL ME THAT. DODGE MUST RECALL THIS IT IS NOT SAFE AND IT WILL HURT THEIR SALES IF THEY DON'T
