WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WHEN CROSSING A BUMP IN THE ROAD TIRES GRABBED THE BUMP. WHEN TURNING CORNERS THERE WAS A CLANKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. ALSO, THERE WERE TIMES WHEN TURNING LEFT REAR END OF THE VEHICLE WOULD WANT TO GO IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH CONSUMER RAN INTO AN ANIMAL HEAD-ON AND NONE OF THE FRONT AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
ENGINE WAS OFF, KEYS OUT OF IGNITION, A SMALL CHILD PUT VEHICLE INTO GEAR AND VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS, HITTING A BARN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
I OWN A 2002 DODGE DURANGO AND HAVE HAD THE BALL JOINTS REPLACED 3 WEEKS AGO. I ALSO HAD THE CAR REALLIGNED. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF ALLIGN PULLING TO THE RIGHT WHEN I BRAKE AND MAKING AN AWFUL CLUNKING NOISE WHEN I BRAKE. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A SUSPENSION ISSUE AND THAT IS WHY THE VECHILE WILL NOT STAY ALLIGNED. I HAVE ALREADY GONE THROUGH 3 SETS OF TIRES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR!
THE SEAT BELT FOR THE MIDDLE ROW SEATS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL NOT PULL OUT. THE MECHANIC KEPT WORKING WITH IT UNTIL HE WAS ABLE TO PULL IT OUT. HE DETERMINED THAT IT WAS NOT TWISTED AND ORDERED A NEW ASSEMBLY. IT IS ON BACK ORDER. IN THE MEANWHILE, THE SEAT BELT MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN AND THIS TIME THE MECHANIC COULD NOT PULL IT OUT. WHILE TRAVELLING DOWN I94 AT HIGHWAY SPEED MY 2002 DODG DURANGO ENGINE SEIZED FORCING US TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS WAS CAUSED DUE TO LACK OF MAINTAINANCE IE. OIL CHANGES WHICH IS NOT THE CASE AS I DID THE MAINTAINED OIL CHANGES. IN DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS VEHICLE IS PRONE TO OIL SLUDGE. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE AS OF RIGHT NOW TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION.
SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK WITH REAR ABS ONLY (2-WHEEL) WHEN THE ABS SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. IT IS AS IF THE FRONT BRAKES WILL NOT STOP. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SENSE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. WHEN IT WAS MENTION TO THE DEALER THEY SAID THAT WAS HOW THE ABS SYSTEM WORKED. *AK

CONSUMER STATES THAT THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR WILL YANK OUTWARDS OUT OF CONSUMERS HAND. CONSUMER STATES THIS DOOR HAS CAUSED MANY PROBLEMS IN PARKING LOTS. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON MARCH 12, 2010 MY 2002 DODGE DURANGO SLT BEGAN TO OVERHEAT AND IT SHUT DOWN ON ME. I CALLED AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE CAR. HE STATED THE ENGINE WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE OIL SLUDGE WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT LEADING TO ENGINE FAILURE. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENCE THE MAINTENANCE WAS WELL DONE AND THERE WAS NO SIGNALS WHICH WOULD HAVE ALARMED ME THAT A PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING. IT IS ALARMING TO ME SEE THOUSANDS OF OTHER CONSUMERS WHO HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WHICH GOES TO SHOW THAT MY INCIDENT WAS NO AN ISOLATED ONE. *TR
I OWN A 2002 DODGE DURANGO WITH 35,000 MILES THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE DEALER REPLACE 2 WORN BALL JOINTS LAST WEEK, I'VE HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED TWICE, AND ONE ROTOR ON ONE SIDE (IN FRONT) TURNED, AND I AM STILL HEARING STRANGE NOISES. I WOULD LIKE AN INVESTIGATION DONE ON MY VEHICLE, AS I AM DRIVING MY DAUGHTER AND MYSELF AROUND EVERYDAY, AND MY FACTORY WARRANTY IS ABOUT TO EXPIRE. ITS OBVIOUS DAIMLER CHRYSLER IS NOT CONCERNED WITH SAVING PEOPLES LIVES, AS I HAVE JUST WITNESSED THE MARCH THIRD EVENING EDITION OF CBS NEWS WITH DAN RATHER. I AM RATHER CONCERNED THAT THE TRANSPORTATION SAFETY ADMINISTRATION HAS LET DAIMLER CHRYSLER GET AWAY WITH NOT RECALLING THESE PROBLEMS CONSIDERING THE LARGE AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS WITH THESE SUSPENSION SYSTEMS. ELECTRONIC CONTROLS OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT DO NOT FUNTION PROPERLY. TURN SIGNALS,LIGHTS,CRUISE. GAUGES,WINDOWS,RADIO,AIRBAG ETC.. ALL HAVE MALFUNTIONED SINCE THE CAR WAS PICKED UP FROM THE DEALER. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT A ELECTRICAL PROBLEM EXISTS IN THE VEHICLE BUT DODDGE/CHRYSLER IS UN WILLING TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE .THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. I HAVE NUMEROUS WITNESSES AND HAVE STARTED VIDEO RECORDING THE PROBLEMS.
WHILE DRIVING IN INCLEMENT WEATHER THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THIS CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY TO THE DRIVER. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND REPLACED IT. THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE CONSUMER CONTINUED TO HAVE THE MOTOR REPLACED EACH TIME IT FAILED. THE CONSUMER THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE WIPER MOTOR. *NM
THIS IS A COMPLAINT IN GENERAL ABOUT THE BLINDING HEADLIGHTS BEING PUT ON VEHICLES NOW DAYS. CAN'T SOMETHING BE DONE TO REGULATE THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE HEADLIGHTS PLACED IN CARS. ALSO, DRIVERS WHO DRIVE WITH THEIR DRIVING LIGHTS ON WHEN NOT NEEDED REALLY CAUSE PROBLEMS. CAN'T IT BE REGULATED THAT DRIVING LIGHTS AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF WHEN APPROACHING ANOTHER VEHICLE. HEADLIGHTS NOWDAYS ARE JUST TOO BRIGHT. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS DUE TO BEING BLINDED BY THE BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS.
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION OF 35-40 MPH. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER AIR BAG DEPLOYED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
PURCHASED DURANGO NEW JAN 2002 IN KENTUCKY. WITHIN 6 MONTHS DODGE RECALLED IT TO REPLACE WHOLE BACK AXLE ASSEMBLY (DODGE STATED IT WAS TOO SMALL FOR DURANGO). SINCE OWNING, WHEN PUTTING INTO REVERSE THE TRANSMISSION HESITATES, AND THE VEHICLE BARELY MOVES (DEALER STATED COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEM). IN ALASKA THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON WHEN GOING FROM WARM GARAGE INTO COLD OUTDOORS, STAYS ON FOR A WEEK (DEALER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG). LOUD POUNDING NOISE WHEN TRAVELING ABOVE 40 MPH WITH BACK WINDOWS DOWN. DURANGO HAS LESS THAN 20,000 MILES AND BACK SEAT SHOWS CONSIDERABLE WEAR WHERE SEAT BELT LATCH CONTACTS SEAT (POOR DESIGN/PLACEMENT OF LATCH). *PH

PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE EQUIPMENT ON 2002 DODGE DURANGO.*MR WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHIMMIED. UPON INSPECTION OF THE BRAKES THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE PADS WERE LIKE NEW BUT THE ROTORS WERE CORRODED SO BADLY THAT THE METAL WAS FLAKING OFF AND LEAVING PITS ON THE SURFACE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT MATERIALS USED WERE SUBSTANDARD. *NM *JB
THE VALVE BODY WENT BAD ON THE 2002 DODGE DURANGO.*MR THIS PROBLEM OCCURED WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN TO 20 MPH. *NM
HOOD INSULATION MISSING OVERHEATING THE PAINT . BACK DOOR ALLOWS EMISSIONS FROM THE EXHAUST . ROOF PANEL DOES NOT FIT AT THE WINDSHIELD . PASSENGER DOORS SLAM TOO HARD. VENT AIR STRONG SMELL LIKE CARBON DIOXIDE. GAS TANK HOSES UNSECURED AND TOO CLOSE TO THE MOFFLER . NO ASHTRAY ..REAR CIGARRET LIGHTER ADAPTER DOES NOT WORK..LOUD POUNDING WITH THE REAR WINDOWS DOWN AT 40+ MIL;ES/HR. *AK
WHEN STOPPING QUICKLY, BUT NOT IN A PANIC. THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM WILL SOMETIMES BRAKE AND RELEASE. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NO WHERE NEAR LOCKUP. THIS HAS CAUSED THE ME TO COME CLOSE TO REAR ENDING A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SLIGHTLY FASTER STOP THAN NORMAL, BUT NO WHERE CLOSE TO CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I WOULD PREFER NO ABS SYSTEM IF THIS SYSTEM ON THE DURANGO IS NORMAL. NO ACCIDENTS FOR OVER 30 YEARS, BUT TWO CLOSE CALLS WITH THIS VEHICLE. I KNOW THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR NORMAL ABS BRAKES. DEALER FOUND NO PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES. DT
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER SUDDENLY LOST POWER STEERING AND CONTROL OF VEHICLE. THIS WAS CAUSED BY LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE BALL JOINTS, RIGHT HUBS AND BEARINGS. EA03-023

WHILE DRIVING HEARD A VERY LOUD CLICKING, POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE WORN OUT. *AK
DURING A VEHICLE STATE INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC FOUND THE UPPER BALL JOINTS WERE NOT IN COMPLIANCE BECAUSE THEY WERE WORN OUT. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB *MR
LETTER REPORTING THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT RIGHT BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY AT 19K MILES. *PH THE DEALER REPLACED THE BALL JOINT FREE OF CHARGE. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A SQUEAKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT BOTH UPPER BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS MALFUNCTIONED, RESULTING IN POOR VISIBILITY. DEALER INDICATED THAT WINDSHIELD WIPERS WERE NOT RECALLED. *AK
