NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2015 Dodge Durango. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
I had a car accident with my child and the front seat belt passenger side locked up and we ended up having to cut her out of the seat belt because it wouldn't unhook
My vehicle does not let off any warning that the engines overheating and the line stays in the middle of hot and cold but really my engines overheating my fan is not on and I get no indication No Light No notification stating me what the real problem is every time we hook something up to it to see what's wrong it lets off another issue with the vehicle and I can't seem to get it answer to what's wrong with the vehicle
The center light on the truck has to be replaced many times due to the light going out due to water intrusion. This is a causes the light to go out and be a safety hazard
Liftgate tail light leaking and holding water causing light failure and electrical shorts. Which cause visibility for other drivers to not see your back end at night.
The rear 'race track' tail lights fail to light or are dim in lower sections of the assembly installed on the rear tailgate. Water enters the assembly over time and collects in the lower sections of the assembly causing the installed LED's and circuitry in those sections to fail. This repair is not covered by the extended warranty and would cost drivers approx 800 to install a replacement which would also leak.
The center track light (brake light) is defective; it collects water from the rain or melted snow and has shorted out parts of the light. The shorted area does not light up when braking. With parts of the track light blacked out by the short, it is not as effective in letting drivers behind me know when I am braking. Initially, the shorted light was a small corner of the light, which is not several inches. With the blackened area of the light growing as I an unable to stop the water from seeping in, it creates a safety concern for a vehicle of this size, especially when driving in a the highway. A Dodge dealer/mechanic shop in DeKalb, IL recognized the problem and said it was very common, but was not covered under the warranty. There were no warnings prior to the failure.
Passenger headrest deployed.
The active head restraint deployed without a crash or rear impact. The plastic part that holds a metal pin has broken.
First noticed the seat belt not retracting completely on the driver seat. When buckled the seatbelt feels loose and when unbuckling it has to be physically moved to the side to be able to exit vehicle. This issue has started happening on the front passenger seat as well. Upon looking to see if something was in the way of it retracting the plastics on both sides appears cracked. Vehicle will be taken into dealership to be inspected. I question the effectiveness during an accident if the plastic was to give away if the seatbelt would somehow be compromised.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contact stated while the driver was driving at 35 MPH with the contact seated in the front passenger’s side seat, the front passenger’s side headrest was inadvertently deployed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact sustained a headache but did not seek medical assistance. The dealer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle would be repaired at her own expense because the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure via email. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.
The lift gate light housing assembly develops cracks due to design flaw, allowing housing assembly to fill with water and cause lights to malfunction. The housing assembly is available for inspection upon request. The rear lights of the vehicle are not functioning as intended and can cause rear end vehicle collision, which car cause injury or worst to the passengers. The problem has been verified by my local Dodge dealership and Chrysler has been made aware of the issue as well. They have replaced the housing assembly 2 times for me in the past but Chrysler has not actually done anything to my knowledge about the design flaw and root cause of the light housing cracking. I currently have water intruding into my now 3rd housing and this time both the dealership and Chrysler are saying they are not going to do anything about it and if I want the cracked housing replaced then I need to pay for parts and labor myself, but what is the point of doing that if its a design flaw and its only a matter of time before the new housing cracks again. I am not the only Dodge Durango owner with this issue, these are many other people reporting this issue on Dodge Durango Forums. The vehicle has been inspected by my local Dodge dealership but not by any other entity. I don't have the maintenance records for the first time this happened, but my local Dodge dealership does. I think the first time the problem was reported was October 2019, and has now happened 2 more times.
The key fob would be in the car, foot on break and the car wouldn't start. Even with a replaced key fob battery. It didn't give any indication that the key fob wasn't detected but the car wouldn't start. It happened a total of 5 times. Twice leaving me stranded with 3 kids in the car.
I have suffered a known issue with the exterior lighting on these vehicles. Water has gotten into the tail light housing and caused the light to go out…a $1300 part. Water intrusion has been long documented in these model year Durangos, with no recall ever issued.
Tailgate light keeps getting moisture and burning out light . 3rd time I have replaced it
Passenger headrest active restraint system activated while the vehicle was parked. In the driveway. Upon inspection it looks as tho a plastic retainer that holds a metal rod broke. Deploying the headrest. There was no impact to the vehicle nor any other active restraint systems activated. While searching for a replacement part. I've found multiple reports of the same problem on forums. With Dodge saying that with the vehicle warranty being expired. That it's a customer issue.
Engine code P0306 (cylinder misfire #6) Replaced the coil pack and spark plug, still misfiring. Moved the cylinder #6 injector to another cylinder head and it still misfires on #6. Know problems with the 3.6L Pentastar Engine but they say my vin isn't listed in Chrysler's extended warranty covering it. Also a lawsuit about it currently going on it Montana https://www.classaction.org/news/fca-us-hit-with-class-action-over-allegedly-refusing-warranty-coverage-for-pentastar-v-6-engine-ticking-defect Dodge refuses to fix it under any warranty and wants $4,000+!!! There are THOUSANDS of people having the same problem!!!!!!
Vehicle will not starts (even though it cranks). The problem as with previous model year Durangos is the Fuel Pump Relay (FPR) inside the Total Integrated Power Module (TIPM). On previous model year Durangos (2011-2013) they have been recalled because if the fuel pump power supply is cut when the vehicle is in motion it could cause an accident. Luckily this condition has not happened to me. Sometimes the vehicle do start and if I use it it has not turned off by itself up to now. The TIPMs were redesigned on 2014-2015 but the fuel pump relay problem carries on. Please have FCA recall these vehicles as well with the FPR inside the TIPM failing. Thank you.
2015 Doge Durango, front passenger seat headrest malfunction "Active Head Restraint" and deployed while not in an accident. Headrest is available for inspection if requested. This occurred while the vehicle was being operated and caused a violent distraction. This could cause an accident as a result which would affect all in the vehicle. Additionally a direct impact/blow to the head from this defective headrest could lead to a head injury and/or cause an accident to occur. This has been reproduced in the same way by numerous consumers and third parties. Currently the defective headrest in question has not been inspected but communication with the manufacturer in progress. In regards to warning signs prior to the malfunction. There were no visible and/or audible signs this was about to occur. The headrest has received normal use which is very minimum. Research about this issue has shown this issue is documented and is present in multiple versions of the 2015 Dodge Durango but is not limited to just that year. Please investigate this issue as this is literally an accident waiting to happen.
Active head restraint randomly deployed on passenger headrest under normal driving conditions.
My driver head rest seat deployed without an accident. It’s very difficult driving this way and unsafe
2nd row seat belts will not retract properly after being unbuckled. I am concerned they won't work properly in a collision.
There is a ticking sound coming from my engine. The dealer told me I need to replace my rocker arms. I've search and seen a lot of people having this problem with the rocker arms failing in the engine. If "a lot" of people are having this problem it sounds to me like a part defect by the manufacturer...
Vehicle came to an abrupt stop on road. I was unable to get my vehicle into neutral or drive to safely move my vehicle to the side of the road. After several failed attempts to restart my vehicle, a tow truck company had to tow my vehicle. My Fuel pump was bad and had to be replaced. A mechanic told me it is rare for a fuel pump to go bad in a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V332000 (Electrical System, Vehicle Speed Control). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made tapping sounds. Additionally, the brakes made squeaking sounds while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer and diagnosed with axle failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
We were entering a highway from an on ramp and the car would not accelerate. We were almost hit from behind because of it. We took the car in to have it looked at and it is a faulty TIPM "totally integrated power module". There were issues with previous years models of Dodge Durangos with the same issue and I believe that recall should extend to newer years. From what I researched: The TIPM lawsuit alleges Chrysler sold and leased model year 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs equipped with defective "totally integrated power modules, which allegedly cause a variety of electrical problems including non-starting, stalling and fuel pump problems. The plaintiffs claim Dodge and Jeep owners have spent a small fortune on unneeded repairs for batteries, fuel pumps and other car parts, all while the real trouble was caused by defective TIPMs.
While driving the driver side headrest deployed without any warning
Active headrest deployed while driving, hitting me in the back of the head. Tried to adjust headrest, but it seems to be stuck.
I was coming back from lunch with my wife and kids when all of the sudden the passenger headset deployed without warning on my 2015 Dodge Durango pushing my wife's head forward. The vehicle has no waring or emergency lights on in the dash board. We are terrified for this to occur while on our daily commute's to work or school drop offs and pick ups, we don't want to have an accident or create one in any manner. Not sure how to proceed due to the fact that there is not recall on this and I really don't have the money to pay the dealership for the this. Since I don't have extended warranty the problem is not covered and the dealership wants to charge me 1,000 to 1,200 to fix and change out part.
As the driver, I reached into the back seat to hand my son something and both front seat head rests deployed! There was not accident or anything that should have caused this. This could have hurt me if my head was rested on the head rest at the time and now I have two head rests that are deployed and can’t fix them! I shouldn’t have to pay for something that shouldn’t have happened without an accident occurring.
Active headrest suddenly engaged. Headrest propelled forward. Active headrest is now inactive. Headrest is broken and open.
The contact owns a 2015 Dodge Durango. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the front driver’s seat headrest erroneously deployed causing a slight headache to the driver. No medical treatment was required. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000. The VINN was not available.
The power actuator for the rear lift gate broke free of its mount causing the actuator to damage the interior of the vehicle as well as causing the rear lift gate to slam closed. Luckily there was no one under the lift gate when this malfunction occurred, but if a child were in the way of the lift gate serious injury or death could have occurred. It is unacceptable that this powerful of an actuator is relying on one single bolt as its connection. When I took this to the dealership to get fixed, they told me they could not fix it and referred me to a local body shop. I live in a small town of around 65,000, and I was the forth Dodge vehicle in the last year or so they have seen with this same issue. I have contacted Mopar who makes these vehicles, and they were not interested in repairing this with the warranty and referred me to the NHTSA. If there are four of these issues in a town of 65,000 I can only assume there are plenty of others throughout the nation. I have attached a photo of the part that failed.
I was driving down the road with my wife in the front passenger seat when I heard a loud bang, thinking something stuck the rear passenger side of the vehicle. There was nothing there, but I noticed that the Active Head Restraint had deployed. Fortunately, my wife was leaning forward at the time. I tried to reset, but the plastic brackets holding the steel pin were broken thus not allowing me to reset.
I was leaning against my driver seat to grab my son from out the backseat when the driver seat headrest popped open
While driving to work this morning, I was suddenly hit so hard in the back of the head, my face almost hit the steering wheel. The hit to my head caused me to swerve almost hitting two cars in the lane next to me. I thought I had just been in a car accident! Once it was safe for me to pull over I saw that the driver side headrest deployed. There were no signs or warnings this was about to happen and we have never had problems with the seats. I have not taken it to the dealer or had the seat inspected by anyone as it just happened this morning. The consumer stated Dodge dealership, who informed them that warranty is extended for the headrest until 2026. The part is being ordered and consumer is currently waiting for the part.
The driver side headreast randomly deployed.
My wife was driving and the active headrestrant deployed on me for no reason shot my head forward this happen just with her driving nothing happen no accidents or anything I have had headaches since this has happened
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE INADVERTENTLY ACCELERATED. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER NOR INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. WATER GETS IN THE BACK TRACK LIGHT WHICH IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE DODGE TRACK LIGHTS . MY TRACK LIGHT COMPLETELY SHORTED OUT INCLUDING MY LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS . DODGE KNOWS OF THIS DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD HAVE TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT WHICH IS $1000 PLUS LABOR . TOTALLY RIDICULOUS AND A OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD

I HAVE WATER/CONDENSATION IN MY REAR LIGHT PANEL. I HAVE NO CRACKS/HOLES IN THIS PANEL.
REQUEST RECALL FROM CHRYSLER DODGE DUE TO REAR TRACK LIGHT FAILURE. TRACK LIGHT CONSIST OF 80% OF YOUR REAR NIGHT TIME LIGHTS. ATTACHED TO THE TRACK LIGHT (REAR BACK UP CAMERA AND LICENSE PLATE LIGHT. I'M NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL FREELY AFTER 7:30 PM DUE TO NO LICENSE PLATE LIGHT AND CONSTANT FLICKERING ON/OFF TRACK LIGHT. DOZENS OF YOUTUBE VIDEOS AND DIFFERENT INTERNET BLOGS COMPLAINING OF THE SAME ISSUES. CHRYSLER DODGE IS VERY AWARE OF THESE ISSUES BUT REFUSE TO RECALL THE LIGHTS. $1,000.00-$1,200.00 REPLACEMENT COST FROM DEALERSHIPS. USED WITH SOME DAMAGE ON LINE SIGHTS $600.00-$850.00. Cracks in the side trim of race track (tail) light are present at bolts that attach light housing to vehicle. This has allowed moisture into the area of the led tail lights. Tail lights are no longer working correctly.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIFT GATE LIGHT WAS RETAINING MOISTURE, WHICH RESULTED IN LOSS OF THE LIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
REAR RACETRACK TAIL LIGHTS KEEP FILLING UP WITH WATER FROM RAIN, CARWASHES AND MELTING SNOW AND NOW HAS DAMAGED LIGHTING IN ONE AREA AND IT'S INEVITABLE THAT OTHER AREAS WILL SOON BE DAMAGED.
DURANGO LIFT GATE RACETRACK TAILLIGHT IS OUT, ENTIRE TAIL LIGHT IS BLOWN AND BRAKE IS NOT FUNCTIONING ON IT NOR LICENSE PLATE LIGHT.
TAIL MIDDLE LIGHT GET WATER INSIDE WHEN IT RAINS. NOW MY LIGHT IS COMPLETELY OUT WITH WATER INSIDE THE LIGHT.
REAR SHOCK MOUNTS ARE DEFECTIVE. I ASSUME THIS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. THIS RESULTS IN POOR TIRE WEAR AS THE UPPER PART OF THE SHOCK "WIGGLES" IN THE MOUNT. THIS ALSO AFFECTS THE DRIVABILITY AND REACTION OF THE VEHICLE WHILE TAKING DEFENSIVE DRIVING ACTIONS. DODGE IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AS YOU CAN NO LONGER BUY THIS MOUNT AND YOU HAVE TO BUY THE ENTIRE SHOCK WITH MOUNT ATTACHED. THIS ISSUE WAS DISCOVERED UPON CHANGING THE SHOCKS. THIS HAS BEEN THE CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WHEN GOING OVER SMALL BUMP IN THE TERRAIN.
DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE OR WARNING. OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION.
THE HEADREST DEPLOYED OUT OF NOWHERE.
