1) 1ST MONTH-THE TAILGATE LATCH WOULDN'T OPEN. 2) 1ST YEAR - THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WOULD PERIODICALLY FREEZE AND NOT GO UP. THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIX IT UNTIL IT STAYED BROKEN 3) 11/06/03 AT 45,000 MILES THE LIGHTS WHICH FLASH WHEN THE REMOTE UNLOCKS THE DOORS, FLASHED & COULDN'T BE TURNED OFF. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK WHEN THIS HAPPENED. 4)11/09/03 THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE THEN FLASHED BACK ON. IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES. TOTAL DARKNESS @ 70 MPH IS FRIGHTENING
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A RATTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND THAT THE SWAY BAR LINKS BROKE. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED TWICE.*AK THE SWAY BAR LINK, BUSHINGS AND NUTS WERE ALL REPLACED. *NM
FRONT END ROAD NOISE THAT TWO MECHANICAL SHOPS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR BY REPLACING SWAY BAR BUSHINGS IN ONE SHOP AND A TIE ARM IN THE SECOND SHOP ENDED UP NOT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. FURTHER INVESTIGATION DETERMINED IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION. CLERK AT THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY HAD A THOUSAND ON ORDER, NO EXAGGERATION. HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY ALL GO ON THE CHRYSLER MINIVANS. MY VAN IS A 2001 GRAND CARAVAN SPORT WITH 42000 MILES. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO ASSIST. SOUNDS LIKE A RECALL IS IN ORDER IF THEY ARE AS PROBLEMATIC AS I HAVE BEEN INFORMED. *LA
RECENTLY MY POWER STEERING STARTED MAKING A NOISE WHEN I TURNED. THE VAN HAS 38,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT UNDER WARRANTY I CALLED DIAMLERCHRYSLER AND COMPLAINED. 2,000 MILES OVER WARRANTY SHOULD NOT PREVENT THEM FROM FIXING A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING! DIAMLERCHRYSLER AUTHORIZED THE REPAIRS AT NO COST TO US. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD US LATER THAT THERE IS A KNOW DESIGN FLAW WITH THE RESERVOIR, BUT NO RE-CALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED. WE WERE LUCKY, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE WARRANTY TO GET DIAMLERCHRYSLER TO PAY, BUT I PERSONALLY FEEL THAT KNOWN FLAWS SHOULD BE FIXED AT THE COMPANY'S EXPENSE.
WE HAVE A 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH DUAL SLIDING DOORS AND POWER LEFTISTS. THE POWER SLIDING DOOR WAS STARTING TO CLOSE AND IT HIT MY WIFE'S HAND AND DID NOT STOP. IT CUT 3 FINGERS ON HER HAND. AS IT WAS HITTING HER HAND SHE PUT PRESSURE ON THE DOOR AND IT WENT BACK. WE HAVE REPORTED THIS TO DODGE AND THEIR ACCIDENT DEPARTMENT SAID SOMEONE WOULD CONTACT US TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE NOT DONE SO. I HAVE THREE SMALL CHILDREN AGES 2 YEARS TO 4 YEARS AND IF THE DOOR HIT THEM IT WOULD CRUSH THEM POSSIBLY TO DEATH. *LA
CRUISE CONTROL AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGED WITHOUT ANY ACTION TAKEN BY THE DRIVER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS IN THE LAST WEEK. *LA
DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOWS DO NOT ALWAYS WORK. *NM
SPEEDOMETER WAS OPERATING ERRATICALLY. SOMETIMES IT WORKED FINE, SOMETIMES IT RACED FROM 0 TO 120 MPH, MOVING BACK AND FORTH RAPIDLY,AND SOMETIMES IT RESTED ON 0 MPH WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION. WHEN STOPPED AT STOP SIGN AND / OR RED LIGHT AND WHILE VEHICLE IN GEAR, VAN SOMETIMES STALLED. VAN OFTEN STALLED WHEN MOVING IN REVERSE. FEARED THAT VEHICLE WOULD LOSE POWER AT HIGH SPEED, RESULTING IN A COLLISION. DEALER WORKED ON VAN FOR ONE FULL DAY. RETURNED VAN CLAIMING THAT PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED; REPLACED OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR. WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AFTER LEAVING DEALER, SPEEDOMETER BEGAN MOVING ERRATICALLY AGAIN. VEHICLE HAS BEEN WITH DEALER FOR OVER ONE WEEK. DEALER CLAIMED THAT SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT ACT UP FOR THEM LONG ENOUGH TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. DEALER WANTED LONER VEHICLE RETURNED, BUTOWNER REFUSED; NOT UNTIL PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. VEHICLE PURCHASED JUNE 2001 AND HAD LESS THAN 29000 MILES WHEN MALFUNCTION WAS NOTICED -- EARLY OCTOBER 2003.*AK
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION AND GEAR SHIFT.*MR THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPED INTO A LOWER GEAR WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN. THE FRONT AND REAR PLANATARY GEARS WERE REPLACED.*TS *JB
CLOCKSPRING FAILED, CAUSING AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT TO STAY ON. *AK
DT: 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONSUMER STATES THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON TWICE. ALSO, THE MASTER CYLINDER WENT OUT. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE ABS SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED ON THE BACK WHEELS TWICE. NEARLY EVERYTHING ON THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAD TO BE REPLACED.*AK
I AM WRITING IN REQUEST FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN A MATTER CONCERNING MY 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. RECENTLY WE BROUGHT OUR VEHICLE INTO MANAHAWKIN CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH; DODGE ON RT. 72 IN MANAHAWKIN, NEW JERSEY FOR SERVICE. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE, WHICH HAD ONLY JUST HIT 39,000 MILES, WAS IN NEED OF A NEW STEERING RACK AND TIE RODS. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND YET THERE CONTINUES TO BE ODD NOISES IN THE FRONT END. A FEW DAYS LATER THE STEERING DID NOT FUNCTION, AS SOMEONE DID NOT CONNECT A POWER STEERING HOSE PROPERLY AND ALL THE FLUID LEAKED OUT. I AM NOW CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. AS AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF AUTO MECHANICS, I AM CERTAIN THAT A STEERING RACK DOES NOT NORMALLY GO BAD SO EARLY IN THE LIFE OF A CAR. EVEN THE DODGE MECHANICS I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAVE INDICATED THAT THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED.*AK
BRAKE ON FRONT DRIVER SIDE ATE INTO ROTOR WHERE THE ROTOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT COULD NOT BE RESURFACED ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE HAD 23000 MILES. ABOUT 3/4 OF THAT WAS INTERSTATE MILES.*AK
MY VEHICLE IS 28 MONTHS OLD AND I AM ALREADY ON MY THIRD FUEL TANK CAP. THE PREVIOUS TWO CAPS BEGAN LEAKING WHICH WAS DETECTED BY MY COMPUTER. THE FIRST CAP WAS REPLACED JUST THIS PAST NOVEMBER, 2002. THIS CAP HAD TO BE REPLACED ONLY 8 MONTHS LATER. THIS LAST REPLACEMENT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE MY VEHICLE HAD REACHED IT'S 36,000 MILES SINCE THE FIRST TIME THE CAP WAS REPLACED IN NOVEMBER OF 2002. *AK
MY 2001 CARAVANS A/C HAD GONE OUT A LITTLE OVER 1 YEAR AFTER I BOUGHT IT. I GUESS IT WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM TO REPORT OR INFORM US WHEN WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE THAT THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH THE DAIMLER CORP DUE TO A POSSIBLE A/C PROBLEM). ON THIS MODEL MINIVAN THE MIDDLE WINDOWS ON THE SLIDING DOORS DO NOT OPEN AND THE BACK WINDOWS ONLY OPEN A SLIVER SO MY 2 YEAR OLD SON WAS PRACTICALLY BAKING THE MIDDLE SEAT WITH NO AIR CIRCULATING AND NO WINDOWS TO OPEN FOR VENTILATION. MY LETTER SENT TO DAIMLER/CHRYSLER IS BELOW AND I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THE PROFESSIONALISM AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION I HAVE OR HAVEN'T RECEIVED AS I HAVE SENT THEM TWO LETTERS, COPY OF MY BILL ETC. AND I HAVE NOT HEARD ONE RESPONSE FROM DAIMLER DAIMLER CHRYSLER ATTENTION: REIMBURSEMENT I PURCHASED A 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN IN SEPTEMBER 2001 IT WAS A USED VAN WITH 19,000 + MILES AND SOME ORIGINAL WARRANTY STILL REMAINING. WE PURCHASED WHAT WE THOUGHT AND WERE TOLD TO BE AN ADDITIONAL 75,000 OF WARRANTY COVERING US TO 100,000. I HAVENT HAD THE VAN TWO YEARS AND MY A/C COMPRESSOR HAS GONE OUT AT ONLY 83,000 MILES WE BROUGHT IT TO A DEALER ON JULY 29, 2003 TO REPLACE THE A/C COMPRESSOR AND TO CHECK WITH OUR WARRANTY COMPANY, WHICH WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT OUR WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 75,000 MILES. I WAS EXTREMELY IRRITATED. I COMMUTE 120 MILES A DAY AND LIVING WITHOUT A/C IN THE SUMMER CANNOT BE DONE SO I HAD THE COMPRESSOR ASSEMBLY KIT REPLACED IN THE TUNE OF $1,094.00 THEN AS AN ADDED SLAP IN THE FACE I RECEIVED YOUR LETTER ON AUGUST 5, 2003 STATING THAT YOU KNOW OF THE A/C PROBLEMS THE 2001-2003 MODELS ARE HAVING BUT YOU WILL ONLY PAY TO FIX THEM IF YOU HAVENT GONE OVER AN UNKNOWN EXTENDED 70,000 MILES. I AM WRITING THIS LETTER TODAY TO ASK TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR OF MY AIR CONDITIONER. I HAVE ATTACHED A COPY OF THE WORK ORDER SHOWING THE REPAIR AND COST AS STATED IN YOUR LETTER. TODAY, WHILE DRIVING OUR DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, MY WIFE APPLIED THE BRAKES. THEY MADE A GRINDING NOISE, AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR HAS SLIGHTLY OVER 16,000 MILES AND THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED. THE FIRST WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 9 MONTHS OLD WITH 5 600 MILES ON IT. THE SECOND WAS WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS 23 MONTHS OLD WITH 14,612 MILES ON IT. TODAY, IN LIESS THAN 2 MONTHS AND 2000 MILES IT HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. WE ARE WORRIRED THAT THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON THIS VEHICLE.*AK

THE REGULATOR ON THE FRONT POWER DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS IS FAULTY. OUR VAN WAS BUILT IN CANADA AND IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON TRAIT OF THOSE VEHICLES. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURIES, SOMEONE SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT AND IMPLEMENT A RECALL TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM- OR DISCONTINUE MANUFACTURING VEHICLES THAT DODGE WILL NOT STAND BEHIND. *NLM

SWAY BAR LINKS WORN OUT AT 40K MILES. WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS PART BECAUSE THEY CLAIM IT IS NORMAL WEAR. DEALER STATED THAT HE HAS 15 PAIRS A WEEK IN HIS FACILITY BEING REPLACED AT A COST OF $289.00 PER CAR. *TT
ALTERNATOR BOLT BROKE IN ENGINE BLOCK, CAUSING STRESS ON TIMING CHAIN/ALTERNATOR BRACKET FROM SERPENTINE BELT THUS BREAKING BRACKET, CAUSING BELT TO COME OFF. *TT
AT APPROX. 59,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION ON OUR 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STARTED LURCHING AND SLAMMING WHEN YOU PUT IT IN GEAR. AFTER ONLY 1 1/2 DAYS OF MINOR OCCURRENCES, BEFORE WE COULD HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO GEAR TO GET IT OUT OF THE STREET, BUT IT WOULD NOT GET INTO GEAR AT ALL AFTER THAT. WE HAD TO TOW IT. WE ARE NOW HAVING TO PAY $2000 TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS OUR ONLY CAR FOR CARRYING OUR TWIN TODDLERS, AND THIS IS THE SECOND CHRYSLER VEHICLE WE HAVE OWNED THAT HAS HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE BEFORE 70,000 MILES. MY BEST FRIEND ALSO HAD TO GET RID OF A CHRYSLER LEBARON WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THERE IS A SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM WITH CHRYSLER TRANSMISSIONS, AND IT IS A KNOWN DEFECT THAT IS SOLD TO CONSUMERS. IF WE HAD BOUGHT THIS VAN NEW INSTEAD OF 1 YEAR OLD, I WOULD BE FINDING A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY. *NLM

NOW THAT MY VAN IS OUT OF WARRANTY THEY TOLD ME THER IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT! AFTER DOING SOME RESURCH I TALKED WITH CHRYSLER HEADCORDERS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY VAN WAS A CANADA BUILT VAN AND THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME! DEALSHIP DID NOT TELL ME THAT WHEN YOU BUY A CANADA CAR THAT YOU MAY HAVE PROBLEMS IS THE US FOR REPAIRS INCLUDING RECALLS! THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO READ THE FUNCTIONS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. *JB
HEADLIGHTS WILL GO OFF AND FLICKER. SOMETIMES STAY OUT FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS, AND THEN WILL EVENTUALLY COME BACK ON. NOTHING I DO WILL MAKE THEM COME BACK ON. I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THEM TO COME BACK ON ON THEIR OWN ACCORD. IT HAPPENS AT VARYING SPEEDS - ANY WHERE FROM 15 MPH TO 65 MPH. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE ROAD IS SMOOTH OR NOT, OR WHAT THE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE. I'VE REPORTED IT TO DIAMLER/CHRYSLER WITH NO RESULTS. THEY SIMPLY STATED THERE HAVE BEEN NO OUTSTANDING RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT ON THEIR OWN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WHILE DRIVING IS AN EXTREME SAFETY HAZARD, NOT TO MENTION I COULD GET A TICKET FOR DRIVING WITHOUT MY HEADLIGHTS. WHEN REFUELING, I SLIGHTLY BUMPED THE GAS DOOR AND IT BROKE IN TWO. NOT A REAL BIG DEAL, BUT IT IS MADE OF PLASTIC AND IT BROKE VERY EASILY. NOT A GREAT DESIGN. HAVE THERE BEEN MORE COMPLAINTS OF THIS PROBLEM? THANK YOU
THE VEHICLES SEAT BELTS DID NOT WORK AND WOULD UNLATCH AT ANY TIME. *NLM
I HAVE A DODGE GRAND CARAVAN 2001. MY MODEL HAS THE SEATBELT STYLE OF GEN 3 ON ALL OF MY SEATS. WE WERE UNAWAREOF THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES BEING RAISED ABOUT THESE PARTICULAR SEATBELTS. WE BECAME AWARE FROM THE NEWS. FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS MY 2 YEAR OLD HAS BEEN UNBUCKELING THIS VERY SENSITIVE TOUCH SEAT BELT. NOW I KNOW WHY THIS IS SO SENSITIVE. WE ALSO OWN A 1997 DODGE DAKOTA WITH THE SAME SEAT BELTS. I FEEL WITH AS MANY DEATHS RELATED TO THIS PARTICULAR SEATBELT DAIMLERCHRYSLER NEEDS TO PROVIDE A RECALL ON ALL GEN 3 SEATBELTS. I HAVE 3 CHILDREN UNDER 6 AND I WANT SOMETHING DONE!!!
THE LOW-BACK BUCKET SEATS IN THE 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ARE VERY HIGH AND TILTED (HIGHER AT THE KNEES THAN AT THE SPINE) TO THE POINT THAT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT FOR AN AVERAGE-HEIGHT WOMAN TO REACH THE ACCELERATOR WITHOUT MOVING THE SEAT ALL THE WAY FORWARD. (AT WHICH POINT THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALMOST TOUCHING THE BODY, THE ELBOWS ARE PRESSED INTO THE SEAT BACK, AND THE KNEES HIT THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN BRAKING). WHEN THE SEAT IS AT A COMFORATABLE DISTANCE FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, I CANNOT REST MY HEEL ON THE FLOOR, BUT HAVE TO DRIVE WITH MY TOES ONLY. THE HIGH-BACK BUCKET SEATS I TESTED DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THEY WERE LOWER IN THE FRONT (PERHAPS OVERALL). THE SEAT IS SO HIGH THAT I (AT 5'3") MUST DUCK MY HEAD IN ORDER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WITHOUT HITTING IT ON THE DOOR FRAME.
I HAVE A 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ES THAT HAS ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS HAD GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE LEFT FRONT TIRE AREA PRIOR TO THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING UP WHEN MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS. ON THE FIRST INCIDENT THE POWER STEERING WAS SO TIGHT I HAD TO FIGHT TO TURN LEFT ONTO MY STREET. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND OR IN FRONT OF ME BECAUSE THE CAR KEPT GOING STRAIGHT EVEN WHEN THE ROAD DIDN'T. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BEFORE I HIT THE CURB. ON THE SECOND INCIDENT, AGAIN I WAS TURNING AT A SLOW SPEED, THIS TIME RIGHT, AND AGAIN HAD A LOCKUP OF POWER STEERING. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AGAIN. THIS TIME WITH FRIGHTENED PASSENGERS AS THEY WATCHED ME STRUGGLE WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET US OUT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. ON THE LAST INCIDENT, AGAIN FIGHTING TO TURN ONTO MY STREET, I DIDN'T ATTEMPT TO TURN INTO MY GARAGE. I PARKED ON THE STREET AND CALLED FOR A TOW TO THE DODGE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT. I WANTED IT TO BE CHECKED OUT. I WASN'T LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF MANUFACTURER WARRANTY WITH 44,716 MILES ON IT, BUT I TOOK IT AND THE DEALER STATED THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE AND MADE SEVERAL TURNS AND FOUND THE VEHICLE IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AT THIS TIME, SO I PICKED UP MY VAN AND I TOLD THE SERVICE ADVISOR THAT INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS ARE ALWAYS THE HARDEST TO FIND AND I WOULDN'T HAVE INCONVENIENCED MYSELF 2 DAYS IF THERE WASN'T A PROBLEM. I FEEL THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED MORE COMPLETELY. MANY PROBLEMS DON'T SHOW UP UNTIL AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND PEOPLE IN THE REAL WORLD HAVE DRIVEN SOME MILES. UNDER REAL LIFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. THERE IS WHERE YOU'LL FIND ANY FLAWS. I AM MAKING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE PEOPLE MAY GET HURT OR KILLED IF THE POWER STEERING UNPREDICTABLY CONTINUES TO FAIL WITHOUT WARNING. *NLM
BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE POWER WINDOWS HAVE FAILED WITH LESS THAN 51000 MILES AND 3 YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE VAN. THE WINDOWS START OFF BEING INTERMITTENT AND SLOW THEN EVENTUALLY FAIL, THE AMOUNT OF TIME FROM FIRST PROBLEM TO TOTAL FAILURE IS ABOUT A YEAR, BY THAT TIME THE WARRANTY RUNS OUT! *LA

THE POWER STEERING STARTED MAKING NOISE WHEN OUR 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WAS AT ABOUT 50000 MILES. WE TOOK IT TO 2 PLACES AND BOTH SAID IT WAS THE POWER STEERING. WE HAD IT REPLACED BUT IT STILL MAKES NOISE, STILL SHUDDERS WHEN GOING LOW SPEEDS, ETC. WE NOTICED THAT SOMEONE ELSE ON YOUR WEBSITE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM BUT WAS TOLD SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY CHRYSLER WOULDN'T FIX IT. WE AGREE THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS DESIGN DEFECT PROBLEM AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX IT! *JB
POWER STEERING HOSE CONTINUALLY COMES OFF--HAD IT REPLACED 3 TIMES WITHIN A 9 MONTH PERIOD. *JB
I NOTICED THAT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 50-65 MPH THE VAN WOULD SHUTTER VIOLENTLY WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED MAKING IT VERY HARD TO STOP AND ALSO CAUSING THE VAN TO PULL LEFT OR RIGHT. AT LOWER SPEEDS I HAD THE SAME RESULTS. I NOTIFIED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL REACTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. WHICH I FOUND TO BE QUIT ODD SINCE I'VE NEVER EXSPRIENCED THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM BEFORE ON A CHRYSLER PRODUCT. FINALLY WITH 23075 MILES, I TOOK THE VAN IN TO HAVE THE FRONT ROTORS CHANGED BECAUSE THEY WHERE FOUND TO BE (WARPED). PLEASE NOTE THAT I TOOK THE VAN TO AN OUTSIDE VENDER (BRAKE SYSTEMS OF AMERICA)WHERE THEY DID A FULL INSPECTION OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM,AND TEST DRIVING THE VAN THEY FOUND THAT THE FRONT ROTORS WHERE WARPED.ALSO NOTE THE REASON THEY DIDN'T REPAIR THE VAN WAS BECAUSE THEY SAID IT MIGHT VOID THE CHRYSLER WARRANTY.IS THIS A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE 2001 CHRYSLER AND DODGE PRODUCTS PREMATURE WARPING OF EITHER THE FRONT OR REAR ROTORS OR A MANUFACTURING, QUALITY CONTROL ISSUE WHICH EVER THE CONSUMER IS GETTING STUCK FOOTING THE REPAIR BILL.
I HAVE A 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ES WITH STOCK 17 INCH WHEELS. POWER STEERING GROANS AND VIBRATION IS FELT IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT LOW SPEED. I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT REQUIRED NEW BRAKES (DUE TO MILLAGE BEING 42,205) AND BROUGHT VEHICLE INTO A REPAIR SHOP FOR THAT PURPOSE. BRAKES WERE DETERMINED TO NOT NEED SERVICING YET. THEN BROUGHT CAR TO LOCAL DODGE DEALER (WHERE PURCHASED) FOR INVESTIGATION. THE DEALER CHARGED ME $60.00 TO TELL ME THAT IT HAS A TSB (19-001-02) ON THE POWER STEERING AND REFUSES TO COVER COST OF CORRECTION DUE TO CAR BEING 6,000 MILES OUT OF BASIC WARRANTY. I CLAIM THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AS DODGE WANTS TO REPLACE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR AND POWER STEERING RETURN LINE AS WELL AS CHANGE THE FLUID NORMALLY IN THE RESERVOIR FROM POWER STEERING TO ATF FLUID!!! I CALLED THE CHRYSLER CONSUMER LINE AND ONLY GOT THEM TO AGREE TO SPLIT THE COST (THEY PAY FOR PARTS AND I PAY FOR LABOR).THEY WERE NOT SYMPATHETIC AT ALL BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF THE BASIC WARRANTY WINDOW. CONSUMER LINE PERSON WENT ON TO SAY THAT IT WOULD BE MY FAULT IF POWER STEERING FAILED FOR NOT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. I CALLED THE DEALER TO DO THE CORRECTIONS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND I WOULD GET A CALL WHEN THEY GET A CONFIRMATION FOR THE PARTS!. I FEEL THAT CHRYLSLER IS NOT ADMITTING TO A DESIGN DEFECT AND FORCING THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR THEIR PROBLEM WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY IF THE POWER STEERING FAILED.
I ONLY HAVE 25,000 MILES ON MY 2001 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. (1) THE SWAY BAR LINKS WERE REPAIRED TWICE, AND PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER FOR A THIRD REPAIR. (2) I HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKES AFTER ONLY 14,000 MILES, AND THEY ARE HALF GONE ALREADY AT 25,000 MILES, PLUS THE REAR BRAKES HAVE TO BE REPLACED. (3) THE ENGINE HAS A FLAT SPOT DURING ACCELERATION, AND I GET ABOUT 11 MILES PER GALLON IN THE CITY, AND ABOUT 15-16 MILES PER GALLON ON THE HIGHWAY. IT STATED IT GOT 18 MILES PER GALLON IN THE CITY, AND 24 MILES PER GALLON ON THE HIGHWAY. (4) THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A MOANING SOUND; THE POWER STEERING WAS LEAKING FLUID, (5) I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY THE FIRST SUMMER I HAD IT, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WENT OUT EARLY THIS SUMMER (6) THE DRIVER?S SIDE WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL UP WHEN WE WERE AT BEAR COUNTRY USA SURROUNDED BY BEARS (7) THE SHIFT GEAR LEVER SOMETIMES SLIPS FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL, AND I HAVE HAD THAT LOOKED AT TWICE (8) THE CRUISE CONTROL WENT OUT LAST SUMMER
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND NO WARNING THE RACK AND PINION SNAP CAUSING THE CONSUMER TO LOSE STEERING CONTROL. DEALER NOTIFIED TS
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING NORMALLY LESS THAN .2 MILES FROM THE HOUSE. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 40 MPH. THE ROADS WERE DRY. MY WIFE HEARD AND "EXPLOSION" AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD BELIEVING THAT SHE HAD A BLOW OUT. THE CAR STALLED. NOT KNOWING WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, ALL THE TIRES WERE INFLATED, SHE RETURNED HOME. BY THE TIME SHE RETURNED TO THE HOUSE THERE WAS NO TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE VEHICLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP (BUDDIES AUTOMOTIVE 410-679-6300) THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THAT THE PIN THAT DODGE USES IN THE DIFFERENTIAL IS UNDERSIZED AND HOLLOW, AND THAT IT HAD SHEARED OFF SENDING PARTS THROUGH THE CASING OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION IS BEING REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT IS BUILT BY A COMPANY WHO HAS PERFORMED STUDIES ON THE TRANSMISSION AND HAS MODIFIED THIS SECTION OF THE TRANSMISSION TO MAKE THEM SAFE AND RELIABLE. THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER HAS FAILED TWICE: 4/02 AND 2/04. *JB
THE DAY AFTER PURCHASE, THE WIPER BLADE WAS OFF TRACK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH CAUSED A DEEP SCRATCH TO BECOME EMBEDDED IN THE WINDSHIELD. THIS DEFECT WAS REPAIRED. ABOUT A WEEK AGO, THE WIPERS STARTED TO HIT EACH OTHER ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WINDSHIELD, THEY WOULD BIND, GET STUCK AND LIFTED ABOUT 1/4 OF AN INCH. ONCE LOOSE THEY CONTINUED THEIR OPERATION. CONSUMER IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE WIPERS BINDING AGAIN AND THE POTENTIAL OF ANOTHER SCRATCHED WINDSHIELD. *JG *JB
