WHEN THE IGNITION IS FIRST TURNED ON, THE DAYLIGHT LIGHTS COME ON THE DRIVER SIDE ONLY, THE PASSENGER LIGHT IS OFF. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE TURNS ON ONLY, THE DRIVER SIDE IS OFF. WHEN HIGH BEAMS ARE TURNED ON THE DRIVER SIDE COMES ON ONLY, AND THE PASSENGER SIDE IS OFF. VERIFIED THE BULBS THEY'RE ALL OK.? *TR
TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND QUICKLY FAILED. RESULTED IN ACCIDENT. NOTICED FLUID LEAK IN THE ROAD WHERE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. *TR
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAVE STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THERE WERE NO EVENTS LEADING TO THIS FAILURE, JUST WORKING ONE DAY AND NOT THE NEXT. THIS SEEMS TO ME TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING HASN'T BEEN DONE TO CORRECT IT. IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO CATCH FIRE HOW WOULD ANYONE BE ABLE TO GET OUT. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WHERE THE AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE LIGHT IS ON. I HAVE SEEN RECENTLY WHERE THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON 2005-2006 DODGE GRAND CARAVANS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE (THRU THEIR WEB SITE) AND NEVER RECEIVED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF MY COMPLAINT. *TR
WE OWN A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, WE WERE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE REAR WINDOW BLEW OUT A HOLE ABOUT 10X12 INCHES AND SHATTERED THE ENTIRE REST OF THE WINDOW. *TR

HEADLIGHT MALFUNCTION. DRL ONE ON ONE OFF, HEADLIGHTS OPPOSITE ON/OFF, HI-BEAMS OPPOSITE ON/OFF. REPLACED FCM, WORKED OK FOR A FEW WEEKS, BUT IS MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN. *TR
TWICE EARLIER THIS YEAR I HAD TWO POWER STEERING HOSES BLOW OUT ON ME WHILE DRIVING. HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY PULL-OVER AND HAVE VEHICLE TOWED. *TR
INCIDENT OCCURRED AUG 2008. THE OWNERS MANUAL AND DEALER SERVICE MANAGER REPORT BRAKES REVERT BACK TO STANDARD BRAKES AND VEHICLE CAN BE DRIVEN. THIS IS NOT SO!!! IN MY FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE, WHEN ABS LIGHT COMES ON, VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. I HAD FRONT DISK PADS REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. AFTER 2 DAYS, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. OWNERS MANUAL, CONFIRMED BY SERVICE MANAGER REPORTS BRAKES DEFAULT BACK TO STANDARD BRAKES. NOT TRUE. BRAKES WERE SLIGHTLY ENGAGED AND OVERHEATING. I WAS TOLD IT MAY TAKE UP TO 5000 MILES FOR NEW BRAKE PADS TO "BREAK IN" AND NOT TO WORRY. APPLYING MY BRAKES RESULTED IN PEDAL GOING TO FLOOR AND A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THIS WAS LATER DETERMINED TO BE THE MASTER ABS MODULE. DEALER INSPECTION RESULTED IN A DEFECTIVE ABS SIGNAL SENSOR TO THE REAR LEFT BRAKE. REPLACEMENT CURED ALL OF THE ABOVE PROBLEMS. THIS VEHICLE AND PERHAPS ALL OTHERS OF THIS TYPE SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN WHEN THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON. *TR

I HAVE A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN THAT HAS HAD HEADLIGHT TROUBLES FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS. WHEN YOU TURN THE VAN ON, ONLY THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT TURNS ON. WHEN YOU TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON, ONLY THE LEFT HEADLIGHT TURNS ON. WHEN YOU TURN THE BRIGHTS ON, ONLY THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT TURNS ON. ALWAYS, ONLY ONE LIGHT AT A TIME. WE HAVE REPLACED ABOUT THREE DIFFERENT SWITCHES AND WE STILL CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE TROUBLE.(NO, IT ISN'T THE BULB). THIS HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH. EVEN THE DEALER CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE TROUBLE AND IT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I SMELLED SMOKE. I COULDN'T SEE WHERE IT WAS COMING FROM SO I CONTINUED DRIVING. THEN I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT FROM BEHIND THE PANEL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR. I THEN PULLED OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. I COULDN'T SEE A FIRE FROM INSIDE AND THE DOOR DIDN'T FEEL HOT. I WALKED AROUND TO THE OUTSIDE AND TOUCHED THE DOOR, WHICH WAS HOT. I THEN NOTICED BURN MARKS THROUGH THE PAINT. I WENT BACK INTO THE VAN AND PULLED PART OF THE PANEL AWAY AND SAW FLAMES INSIDE THE DOOR. I THEN TOOK A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT OUT THE FIRE. I CALLED 911 AND ASKED FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. *TR

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING A ROUTINE INSPECTION, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING:RACK AND PINION WAS LEAKING FLUID AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE IT WAS A COMMON FAILURE FOR THAT YEAR, MAKE, AND MODEL VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE COST OF $1,234. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 50,000. UPDATED 07/15/08 *BF UPDATED 07/15/08
I OWN A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, WHICH HAS CRUISE CONTROL INSTALLED. THERE ARE TWO BUTTONS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, ENGAGE/DISENGAGE WHICH ENGAGES THE SYSTEM, AND SET, WHICH SETS THE SYSTEM ON THE SPEED SELECTED. THERE ARE THREE BUTTONS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL, ACCEL/RESUME, CANCEL WHICH CANCELS THE LAST SETTING SET, AND DECEL. ABOUT 50% OF THE TIME WHEN I 'CANCEL' THE LAST SETTING ENGAGED, AFTER 1 TO 3 SECONDS THE SYSTEM WILL RE-ENGAGE AND ACCELERATE TOWARD THE SPEED PREVIOUSLY SELECTED. IT WILL NOT RE-ENGAGE IF THE SYSTEM IS DE-ACTIVATED BY EITHER THE BRAKE APPLICATION OR BY PRESSING THE DISENGAGE BUTTON. *TR
ALL OF A SUDDEN THE INTERNAL INSTRUMENT PANEL AND CONSOLE LIGHTS WENT OUT IN MY 2002 GRAND CARAVAN. MY MECHANIC SAID THE BODY CONTROL MODULE IS FAULTY/HAS A SHORT AND IT'S AN APPROX $800 REPAIR. I HAVE 128,000 MILES ON THE CARAVAN. I ALSO HAVE A 1996 CARAVAN AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO THAT VAN, EVEN THOUGHT IT'S 12 YEARS OLD. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON AND THE HORN QUIT WORKING. I HAD TO HAVE CLOCKSPRING AND PASSENGER AIRBAG JUMPER WIRING REPLACED COSTING $524.00. THESE ARE PARTS PREVIOUSLY RECALLED ON EARLIER MODELS, SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED AS "WEARABLE" PARTS, AND INVOLVE THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE AND THEREFORE SHOULD ALSO BE CONSIDERED FOR RECALL FOR THIS YEAR. *TR
DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPORT 2002 SWAY BAR BUSHING MOUNT WEARS OUT PREMATURELY AND CAUSES EXTREME DEGRADING IN VEHICLE HANDLING. *TR
ON SATURDAY 12/29/07 AS I WAS RETURNING FROM MY MOTHER'S HOME WITH MY 2 YOUNG CHILDREN OUR TRANSMISSION FAILED. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PREVIOUS WARNINGS OR PROBLEMS OR EVEN AN INDICATOR LIGHT, MY 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPORT WITH 128K MILES MADE A SUDDEN LOUD THUMP NOISE (ACCORDING TO MY 6 YEAR OLD SON IN THE BACK SEAT IT SOUNDED LIKE WE RAN OVER SOMETHING) AND THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO DOWN SHIFT DRAMATICALLY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER BUT WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE. I HAD TO HAVE MY WIFE DRIVE, WITH OUR YOUNGEST CHILD, BACK TO RESCUE US FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED AS IT WOULD NOT MOVE AFTER THAT. WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR REPAIRS. I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED AND CERTAINLY NOT WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR PROBLEMS PREVIOUSLY.*CN
2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKES. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, AND REAR DRUM BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED OR FIXED 5 TIMES. *KB
WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON WITHOUT CAUSE OR WARNING AND WILL NOT TURN OFF EVEN WITH IGNITION OFF AND KEY REMOVED. HAD TO REMOVE FUSE AND DISABLE WIPERS TO DRIVE CAR AND KEEP BATTERY FROM DISCHARGING. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 28, 2007 MY 2 YEAR OLD SON, DYLAN FISHER DEPETRO LOST HIS LIFE, ALONG WITH 9 MONTH OLD AMELIA DEMEUSE, TO A MINIVAN FIRE THAT ALSO SERIOUSLY INJURED TWO OTHERS IN THE TOWN OF LUXEMBURG, WI. OUR SON'S SITTER RAN SOME ERRANDS FOR ANOTHER LITTLE GIRL'S 1ST BIRTHDAY. WHILE SHE WAS IN A HARDWARE STORE, PURCHASING DECORATIONS, THE MINIVAN, HOLDING FIVE CHILDREN (ALONG WITH MY SON) CAUGHT FIRE. THE CAUSE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. I HOLD NO ANGER TOWARDS SUE LALUZERNE, THE SITTER. SHE LOVED MY SON AND MY SON LOVED HER. HOWEVER, I KNOW THAT MY SON'S DEATH WAS NOT IN VAIN. HE WAS CALLED HOME TO JESUS FOR A REASON AND I FEEL IT'S MY CALLING TO ENSURE THAT SOMETHING LIKE THIS NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN. THE MINIVAN WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. MY SON WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE FROM SMOKE INHALATION AND SOOT. HE PROBABLY ONLY TOOK TWO BREATHS BEFORE BECOMING UNCONSCIOUS. ALTHOUGH THE CAUSE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A VEHICLE BECOMING CONSUMED IN FLAMES IN SUCH A SHORT TIME. MY SON WAS IN A CAR SEAT THAT WAS BUILT INTO THE MINIVAN; A SEAT THAT CONTAINED HIGHLY FLAMMABLE, TOXIC MATERIALS. WE ARE WORKING WITH GIL ROSS, A LAWYER OUT OF CHICAGO, TO HELP US DURING THIS TIME. THERE IS NO AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT COULD EVER EASE THE PAIN OF LOSING MY CHILD. WHAT I REALLY WANT TO HAPPEN OUT OF ALL OF THIS IS FOR THE AUTO INDUSTRY TO STOP USING FLAMMABLE MATERIALS IN THEIR SEATS, ESPECIALLY IF CAR SEATS ARE BUILT IN. I WANT PEOPLE TO BE TRAINED IN THE USE OF CAR SEATS IN CPR CLASSES ACROSS THE NATION AND A MECHANISM FOR QUICK RELEASE OF A CAR SEAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE. I ASK FOR YOUR HELP IN MAKING THE WORLD AWARE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE AND HELPING US TO CHANGE THE SAFETY STANDARDS. MY SON DESERVES THIS. THANK YOU. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, PULLING ME INTO A PICKUP TRUCK AND "TOTALING" MY 2002 DODGE GRANDCARAVAN BEYOND INSURED RECOVERY. NOTE: I HAD POWER STEERING COOLING HOSE REPLACED AS INSTRUCTED IN 2004 RECALL. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS DEALING WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND TO GO TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST. A DAY LATER, THE TIRES WERE LOCKED AND THE VAN DID NOT RESPOND TO ANY GEAR. HAD THE VAN TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP. THEY SAID THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER FAILED AND IN TURN THE OIL PUMP WAS NOT CIRCULATING OIL TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY WELDED TOGETHER. WE HAD TO PURCHASE AN ENTIRE NEW TRANSMISSION COSTING OVER $2,600.00. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 48,000 MILES. I READ ONLINE WHERE OTHER INDIVIDUALS HAD SAME PROBLEM AT 37,000 MILES AND 40,000 MILES. *TR
AIRBAG LIGHT HAS HAD TO BE RESET BY DEALER SEVERAL TIMES SINCE WE HAVE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2002. TIRED OF PAYING $100 FOR THEM TO PROVIDE A TEMPORARY, UNEXPLAINED INEFFECTIVE REPAIR. *TR
THE TAIL LIGHT COVER ON THE PASSENGER REAR BLEW OFF AS I TRAVELED ON A HIGHWAY. THE TAIL LIGHT COVER HAD COME LOOSE. WHEN EXAMINED THE GLUE APPEARED TO HAVE FAILED. I THOUGHT IT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD. I WAS WRONG. NOW I HAVE A TAIL LIGHT WITHOUT A LENS SO THE LIGHTS ARE WHITE WHEN I PUT ON MY BRAKES OR TURN SIGNAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A RECALL REPAIR. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE, THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PCM ELECTRICAL BOARD WAS FAILING, WHICH COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO FAIL AT ANYTIME. THE CONTACT CALLED DODGE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. THREE WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND WAS TOWED TO HIS RESIDENCE. HE JUMPED THE BATTERY AND WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THE FAILURE WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL BOARD. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY STILL AT HIS HOME. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 98,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
AT 62,000 MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR. AFTER MOVING THE GEAR SHIFT ALL THE WAY UP AND DOWN IT ENGAGED, BUT BEGAN DOWNSHIFTING VERY HARD FROM 4TH TO 3RD. DEALER PERFORMED MAINTENANCE AND REPROGRAMMED THE MODULE WHICH RESOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR ABOUT 8,000 MILES. AGAIN, SAME THING HAPPENED THIS TIME DEALER JUST REPROGRAMMED MODULE. THE PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED FOR ABOUT 9,000 MILES AND AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEGUN DOWN SHIFTING VERY HARD. WHEN DECELERATING THE CAR CLUNKS AND CATCHES.
THIS COMPLAINT WAS IN REGARD TO THE DRIVER'S FRAME SEAT BREAKING ON A 2002 DODGE CARAVAN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. TO ME THIS WAS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. A CALL TO CHRYSLER CORPORATION WAS UNSUCCESSFULLY AS THE COMPANY WILL NOT COVER THIS LOSS DUE TO MILEAGE, WHICH SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT COMING APART. *AK
THE VAN'S AIRBAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, THEN STAYED LIGHTED FROM THEN TO DATE. BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED, SO I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY TYPE OF COLLISION. I AM CONCERNED THAT MY AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER IS ACTIVATED, THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR BECOMES DAMP. ALSO, THE LCD SCREEN ON THE RADIO NO LONGER OPERATES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 96,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. IN JUNE OF 2007, WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CONTINUALLY REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO HIS LOCAL MECHANIC FOR REPAIR AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLOCK SPRING FAILED. IN MAY OF 2008, THE AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN TO CONTINUALLY ILLUMINATE AGAIN WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR A SECOND AT 47,000 MILES. THE CLOCK SPRING IS CURRENTLY UNDER RECALL FOR OTHER MODELS AND THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE THE RECALL TO BE EXPANDED. THE ORIGINAL FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 47,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN ES. ON MAY 13, 2007, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED, FORCING HER TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AT 45 MPH. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WAS SHOVED INTO THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT AND AIR BAG FAILED. THE ENGINE SIZE AND PURCHASE DATE WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 88,000.
PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AIRBAG IS NONOPERATIONAL. VEHICLE RECALLED IN THE PAST DUE TO CONDENSATION BUILDUP IN THE FRONT DASH AREA LEADING TO ELECTRICAL FAILURE. I BELIEVE THIS CONDENSATION OR FAULTY SENSOR MAY BE LEADING TO FAILURE OF THE AIRBAG COMPONENT. I ALSO DROVE THIS VEHICLE FOR 2 YEARS IN HEAVY SALT WHILE IN UPSTATE NEW YORK SERVING IN THE ACTIVE DUTY ARMY. I AM CURRENTLY STATIONED IN VIRGINIA. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FUEL TANK CONTROL VALVE WELD JOINT HAS BEEN LEAKING FOR THREE WEEKS. THE MECHANIC FOUND THE LEAK AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT ILLUMINATING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO HIS VIN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNAVAILABLE.
THE DOOR LATCH ON THE 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN REQUIRED REPLACEMENT TWICE IN A 15 MONTH SPAN. THISWAS FOR THE POWER SLIDING DOOR. IT WAS REPLACED ON 12/29/2005, AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT AGAIN ON 4/5/07. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE THE FAILURE HAS NOT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN MOTION, BUT AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE FREQUENT FAILURES. THE DOORWAS NOT SUBJECTED TO ABUSE, AND HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED IN ANY WAY FROM FACTORY SPECS.*AK
THE RACK AND PINION IS LEAKING, CAUSING THE POWER STEERING FLUID TO LEAK ON OUR 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SPORT. WE HAD THE RACK AND PINION REPLACED IN FALL OF 2005 AFTER HAVING TROUBLE WITH STEERING. NOW IN MARCH OF 2007 WE ARE TOLD BY THE SERVICE SHOP THAT IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AND THAT THESE VANS TEND TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. UPON CONTACTING CHRYSLER THEY INFORM US THAT THEY WILL NOT HELP US REPLACE THIS PART BECAUSE THE VAN IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO START WITH A NOISE WHEN WE TURN THE WHEEL, EVENTUALLY BECOMING VERY LOUD AND HARD TO TURN AS THE PROBLEM WORSENS. *JB

WE HAVE CHASED POWER STEERING ISSUES THROUGHOUT THE LIFESPAN OF MY 2002 GRAND CARAVAN SPORT. NOISE , SHAKING AND VIBRATING. LOCAL DODGE DEALER REPLACED EVERYTHING - PUMP, RESERVOIR , LINES , SERVICE BULLETINS AND RECALLS. EVEN REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION AT 70,000 BY THE 6TH TRIP IN , THEY REPLACED THE RESERVOIR SCREEN . FIXED ALL NOISE AND ISSUES . NOW , AT 110,00 MILES ,THE RACK AND PINION IS LEAKING LIKE A SIEVE AND NO ONE WILL ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT THIS PART ONLY HAS 35,00 MILES ON IT AND IT WAS NOT THE BROKEN PART IN THE FIRST PLACE . *AK
MALFUNCTIONING CLOCKSPRING IN AIR BAG. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL HAS A TENDENCY TO LOCK WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 1 AND 60 MPH. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A U-JOINT AT THE END OF THE STEERING COLUMN THAT FREEZES AND CAUSES THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK. THE FAILURE OCCURS EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY HEARD OF THIS DEFECT AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000. I BOUGHT A 2002 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AT AROUND 87K IN 2004. AT THE TIME I WAS AWARE THAT THERE'S A KNOCKING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. I THOUGHT MAYBE DUE TO THE HIGH MILEAGE. I'VE BEEN A LOCAL DEALER FOR REGULAR SERVICES SINCE THEN AND NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THIS. UNTIL AROUND SEPTEMBER I WENT TO THE DEAL HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AND A PERSON FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WANTED ME TO REPLACE SWAY BAR LINKS AND BUSHINGS FOR MY VEHICLE. I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS THIS ALL ABOUT SO I ASKED A LIST OF PARTS THAT HE REQUIRED ME FOR REPLACING. I WENT HOME AND DID SOME RESEARCH ON THESE PARTS AND FOUND MANY OWNER OF THIS CARS COMPLAINT ABOUT A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THIS MODEL. AN OWNER WAS TOLD TO REPLACE HIS SWAY BAR LINKS AND BUSHINGS AND HE DID WHAT WAS TOLD BUT THE NOISE IS COMING BACK AFTER 6 MONTHS. MY CO-WORKER BOUGHT HIS CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY (2002 MODEL), WHICH IS THE SAME MODEL AS DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AROUND THE SAME TIME (2004) I BOUGHT MINE. IT'S MILEAGE IS AROUND 30K. HE GAVE ME A RIDE JUST 2 WEEKS AGO AND I FOUND THAT IT HAS THE KNOCKING NOISE TOO. MY WORRY IS WILL THIS A SAFETY ISSUE OR NOT? 1) 2002, DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, "SPORT" EDITION WITH V6 3.3L ENGINE, 76,600 MILES. WIFE WENT TO WORK AND PARKED VAN AS USUAL. 2A) CO-WORKERS NOTICED THE VAN'S WIPERS WERE ON; VAN HAD STARTED ALL BY ITSELF AFTER BEING PARKED WITH IGNITION TURNED OFF, KEY REMOVED, AND DOORS LOCKED. TO GET THE ENGINE STOPPED AGAIN, VAN WAS PUT INTO GEAR AND TURNED OFF, THEN PUT INTO PARK TO REMOVE KEY. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES THAT DAY. 3A) WIFE TOOK VAN TO CHRYSLER DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. DEALER CHARGED 3 HOURS OF TROUBLESHOOTING LABOR AND ONLY FOUND THAT THE ABS CAB WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. DEALER ORDERED ABS CAB. DEALER COULD NOT FIND CAUSE OF THE STARTUP/RUNNING WITH NO KEY IN IGNITION. 2B) 6 DAYS LATER (DEC. 21, 2006) VAN WOULD NOT TURN OFF AFTER DRIVING ~300 MILES. ALSO, THIS TIME ALL THE ACCESSORIES SUCH AS THE CABIN FANS, RADIO, WIPERS, AND INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON EVEN AFTER THE KEY WAS REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. ALL ACCESSORIES EXCEPT INTERIOR LIGHTS COULD BE TURNED OFF WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE SWITCHES. +BATTERY CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED TO GET LIGHTS OFF. VAN WORKED FINE FOR THE NEXT 3 DAYS. DEC. 24, 2006, VAN WOULD NOT STOP RUNNING ONCE ON THE RETURN TRIP AFTER KEY WAS TURNED OFF. AFTER ARRIVING HOME AND VAN WAS PARKED WITH ENGINE OFF, ALL ACCESSORIES CAME ON, BY THEMSELVES, AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME. +BATTERY CABLE WAS ONCE AGAIN DISCONNECTED TO PREVENT FURTHER MALFUNCTION. 3B) ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WAS MADE FOR JAN. 4, 2007 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION AND/OR THE KEY CYLINDER SWITCH AT THE DEALER. *NM

BALL JOINTS ARE BAD LEADING TO A VERY ROUGH RIDE. *NM
PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITH OUT CRASH/IMPACT. DRIVER PULLED INTO PARKING SPACE AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN THE KEY WAS MOVED INTO THE OFF POSITION THE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. *JB
AT 42K MILES, THE AIRBAG LIGHT KEPT TURNING ON AND OFF. THE DEALERSHIP SAID "DRIVER SQUIB CIRCUIT OPEN" AND CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE CLOCKSPRING. PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR A WHILE. BUT NOW AT 72K MILES, THE PROBLEM IS BACK. WHY AREN'T THE 2002'S COVERED IN THE RECALL? MY SYMPTOMS ARE IDENTICAL TO THAT LISTED ON THE RECALL (WHICH ONLY COVERS UP TO 2000). *JB
