2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HEADLIGHTS INTERMITENTLY WILL NOT TURN ON OR TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD RESULTING IN LOSS OF VISIBILITY. MAY CASES OF THIS CAN BE FOUND ON INTERNET AND MY OWN DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER INDICATED IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH SWITCH ($100+ FOR NEW SWITCH). FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE REQUIRED RECALL. *CN
2005 DODGE CARAVAN POWER DOOR LOCKS QUIT WORKING. ONLY 55,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. THERE IS ONLY ONE KEYED ENTRY INTO THE VEHICLE, MAKING THIS A SAFETY THREAT. THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE THAT IS REPORTED ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES, INCLUDING WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WIDESPREAD ON THE CARAVAN AND TOWN & COUNTRY MODELS, OCCURRING BETWEEN 50-70,000 MILES. CHRYSLER/DODGE IS NOT RECOGNIZING THIS AS A SYSTEMIC ISSUE WITH THE PLATFORM ALTHOUGH FREQUENCY OF OCCURRENCE WOULD SUGGEST OTHERWISE.
WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON, THEY DO NOT WORK. THE PARKING LIGHTS AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK BUT NOT THE HEADLIGHTS. IT WAS HAPPENING ONCE OR TWICE A MONTH, BUT NOW IT'S 3-4 TIMES A WEEK. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT, IT IS A HAZARD. *TR
MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN POWER LOCKS HAVE QUIT WORKING. IT HAPPENED BACK IN 2006 WHEN I BOUGHT THE VAN. I HAVE RESET THE FUSE SEVERAL TIMES BUT NOW IT GETS SHORTER AND SHORTER BETWEEN RESETS. SEVERAL OTHER DODGE GRAND CARAVAN OWNERS ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. MY WIFE DRIVES THE KIDS IN THIS VAN AND NOT KNOWING IF THE VAN LOCKS OR NOT IS VERY DANGEROUS. 2005 GRAND CARAVAN - DASHBOARD LIGHTS FLICKER, GAUGES GO CRAZY, RADIO DIES AND SOMETIMES ENGINE STALLS. WE HAVE NOTICED THESE EVENTS OCCUR AFTER DRIVING THE VAN 30 MINUTES OR MORE. WHERE AS THE FLICKERING WAS AN ANNOYANCE THE STALLING ISSUE COULD BE HAZARDOUS IF THIS SHOULD OCCUR ON THE HIGHWAY. SOME ONLINE RESEARCH HAS SAID A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH A WIRING HARNESS BUT MY CLOSEST DEALERSHIP CANT FIND THE ISSUE. *TR

RECENTLY FOUND THE AIR BAG LIGHT COME ON. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER THE CLOCK SPRING WAS REPLACED. THE PROBLEM WAS TRACED TO FRONT AIRBAG IMPACT SENSORS AND SUB WIRING HARNESSES. I FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS AND RECALLS BASED ON THE YEAR AND STATE THE VEHICLE IS IN. MY CAR WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD IN VIRGINIA AND I BOUGHT IT USED IN NC. IF THE CAR WAS STILL IN VIRGINIA, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE AUGUST 2007 RECALL. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO READ "ANY VEHICLE PURCHASED IN THESES STATES XXXX IS SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL". *TR
I HAVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH IT. OUR AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR ON PASSENGER SIDE HAS BEEN REPAIRED ONCE ALREADY AND QUIT WORKING ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER. OUR POWER DOOR LOCKS NOW WILL NOT WORK WITH EITHER THE KEY FOB OR FROM INSIDE ON THE SWITCH. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH GO OUT AND COME ON A VARIOUS TIMES. THESE ARE SERIOUS ISSUES AND DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING AN ARM AND LEG TO JUST LOOK AT IT AND YOU STILL AREN'T GUARANTEED HOW LONG IT WILL REMAIN FUNCTIONAL.*TR
POWER DOOR LOCKS NOT WORKING, THEY EITHER WON'T LOCK OR UNLOCK UNTIL YOU PULL THE IOD FUSE, THIS FIXES IT UNTIL A FEW DAYS LATER. I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, IF YOU WERE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE OF A VEHICLE YOU MAY NOT HAVE TIME TO UNLOCK THE DOORS OR IF THE DOOR LOCKS ARE NOT LOCKING AND YOUR GOING DOWN THE ROAD AND A KID COULD OPEN THE DOOR. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE A TRAGEDY HAPPENS. *TR
STARTED HEARING GRINDING NOISE WHEN TURNING SEVERAL MONTHS AGO. DODGE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED IT AS FAULTY STRUT AND SPRING AND REPLACED. GRINDING NOISE CONTINUED. NOW, DODGE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED AS LEAKING POWER STEERING RACK - WANT $1,100+ TO REPLACE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSORS WERE RUSTED. THE DEALER STATED THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL BECAUSE OF THE SALT ON THE ROADWAY. THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,356 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 102,000. UPDATED 08/13/10. *LJ UPDATED 08/23/10*JB
I PURCHASED THE VAN USED (1 OWNER) AROUND 74,500 MILES. I NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FLICKERED FOR A GOOD 30 SECS. AFTER USING ANYTHING ELSE ELECTRICAL. AFTER A FEW WEEKS, THE POWER DOOR LOOKS STOPPED WORKING. THE REAR HATCH STILL WOULD LOCK/UNLOCK. I RESET THE SYSTEM BY UNPLUGGING THE BATTERY. THIS FIXED THE LIGHT FLICKERING PROBLEM, BUT ONLY WORKED TEMPORARILY FOR THE LOCKS. I EVENTUALLY TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO "FLASH" THE COMPUTER, AND UPDATE SOFTWARE ON THE BCM. THIS WORKED ALSO FOR A FEW DAYS, BUT NOW AGAIN THE LOCKS ARE NOT WORKING. NOW THE DEALER IS SAYING THAT THE BCM MUST BE FAULTY, AND NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED/REPLACED. THIS IS GOING TO COST $500-$600! I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE I HAVE A SMALL CHILD. I NEED TO COUNT ON BEING ABLE TO LOCK/UNLOCK MY VEHICLE IN A TIMELY MANNER BECAUSE I DON'T WORK IN THE NICEST NEIGHBORHOOD. I HAVE NOW MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT OF THE VAN, WHICH WAS LESS THEN WHAT I HAVE ALREADY PUT INTO IT FOR REPAIRS. CHRYSLER SHOULD OFFER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM OR AT LEAST OFFER SOME SORT OF COMPENSATION, ESPECIALLY WITH SO MANY CUSTOMERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. FOG LIGHTS COME ON AND GO OFF RANDOMLY. WITHOUT KEY IN THE IGNITION. THIS HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTER WE BOUGHT THE VAN IN 2005. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS THE SWITCH AND REPLACED IT. BUT THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN COMING ON RANDOMLY EVERY SINCE. NOW, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. A SWITCH ISN'T THAT COMPLICATED. *TR
ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK AND UNLOCK FEATURE FAILS. THERE ARE ONLY 2 DOORS WHERE A MANUAL KEY ENTRY IS AVAILABLE, THE DRIVERS DOOR AND TAILGATE. THIS ALSO DISABLES OPENING THE SLIDING SIDE DOORS AS THEY WON'T AUTOMATICALLY UNLOCK. ALSO DISABLED ARE THE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING AT SPEED FOR SAFETY. YOU CAN TEMPORARILY FIX THIS BY DISCONNECTING THE FUSE OR BATTERY FOR A SHORT TIME AND RECONNECTING. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. DODGE SHOULD FIX THIS ON A RECALL. *TR
TURN SIGNALS - SOMETIMES THEY DON'T WORK, AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU USE INDICATOR TO TURN LEFT THE RIGHT SIGNAL WILL OPERATE, AND VISA VERSA. IT WONT DO THIS WHEN YOU TAKE VEHICLE TO DODGE AND THEY DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A COMMON PROBLEM ALTHOUGH THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH NHTSA AND ON INTERNET. *TR
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK/UNLOCK WILL JUST STOP WORKING. I HAVE BEEN TO DEALER TWICE AND THEY HAVE CHARGED ME $49.95 FOR "REPAIR". THE LATEST EPISODE HAPPENED APX. 6 MONTHS AFTER LAST "REPAIR". I WENT ONLINE TO CARCOMPLAINTS.COM AND FOUND A HOST OF OTHER OWNERS WITH SAME REPEATED PROBLEM. I THEN REMOVED FUSE AND PUT IT BACK IN AND IT HAS TEMPORARILY FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY ARE "UNAWARE OF ANYONE ELSE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM". THEY WILL BE GLAD TO LOOK INTO WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING MY PROBLEM FOR A MINIMUM CHARGE OF $50. OF COURSE "THERE MAY BE ADDITIONAL CHARGES FOR PARTS AND LABOR." I HAVE ALREADY PAID ALMOST $100 FOR DEALER TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE SAME FUSE PLUS ON ONE OF MY VISITS THEY GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $3,000 IN OTHER REPAIRS THEY JUST HAPPENED TO FIND. AFTER TAKING MY CAR TO 2 OTHER REPAIR SHOPS FOR ESTIMATES, I WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND SAW NO SIGNS OF "PROBLEM" DEALER SUPPOSEDLY DIAGNOSED. IT WAS AN ATTEMPT TO RIP OFF A CONSUMER. *TR
I MUST SAY HOW VERY TROUBLING IT IS TO SEE SO MANY OF US WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT FILING HERE ON THIS WEB SITE ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE POWER LOCK ELEMENTS ON THESE MINI VANS!!!! I TOO HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE STARTING WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE A 2005 GRAND CARAVAN BY DODGE. WITH TWO YOUNG CHILDREN (ONE IN MY ARMS) IN THE RAIN ATTEMPTING TO UNLOCK ONE (1) DOOR (DRIVERS) WITH A KEY BECAUSE THE ADDED CONVENIENCE OF A KEY FOB DOOR LOCK AND UNLOCK FUNCTION REFUSES TO STAY WORKING TIME AFTER TIME. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE MANY "QUICK" FIXES ON THE INTERNET BY EVERY OTHER IRRITATED CONSUMER, THEY JUST DON'T WORK PERIOD. DODGE TECHNICIANS DON'T EVEN SEEM TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG, THEY JUST THROUGH FUSES AND PARTS AT IT TO ATTEMPT TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION. DODGE MUST HAVE AN INKLING OF WHAT IS GOING ON??? YOU PEOPLE HERE AT THE NHTSA AND THE NTSB HAVE GOT TO HELP US. I'M SURE EVEN SOME PEOPLE YOU KNOW OR EVEN YOU YOURSELF HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
POWER DOOR LOCKS AND ELECTRIC WINDOWS STOP WORKING....HAPPENS APPROX EVERY TWO WEEKS. HAVE REMOVED THE IOD FUSE AND THEN EVERYTHING WORKS, FOR APPROX. 2 WEEKS, THEN EVERYTHING STOPS WORKING AGAIN. ELECTRIC LOCKS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAVE STOPPED WORKING. THE VEHAICLE IS SUPPOSED TO AUTOMATICALLY LOCK AT A CERTAIN SPEED TO INSURE SAFTEY OF CHILDREN INSIDE. I OWN 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. RECENTLY I NOTICED A WHINNING SOUND FROM FRONT END WHEN I TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. ITOOK IT TO AMECHANIC HE SAID I HAD LEAKING STEERING RAIL. I ONLY HAD 60000 MILES IM TOLD THIS RAIL IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO BE REPLACED UNLESS OF COURSE ITS DAMAGED BY ACCIDENT. IVE VISITED FORUMS ONLINE AND FOUND THAT LOTS OF OTHER OWNERS OF THIS VAN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH STEERING SYSTEM VIBRATIONS AND LOSS OF POWER ASSIST, JUST AS I HAVE. I DONT THIK THIS IS SAFE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAD CARAVAN. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SHUT OFF WHEN HE ENGAGED THE KEY FOB TO LOCK THE DOORS. THE DOORS DID LOCK UNTIL HE MANUALLY LOCKED THEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE HAS RECURRED FOUR TIMES. AFTER EACH FAILURE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, 54,000 MILES, PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD CLOSE TO WITHIN 6-8 INCHES USING ELECTRONIC BUTTONS OR KEY AND STOP. WAS ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE MANUALLY FOR A DAY OR TWO, THEN WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN DOOR AT ALL. AFTER TRYING SEVERAL TIMES, WAS FINALLY ABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. HOW IN THE WORLD COULD ANYONE, MY GRANDCHILDREN FOR INSTANCE, GET THE DOOR OPEN IN AN EMERGENCY. *TR
OUR HEAD LIGHTS WOULD NOT COME ON. AFTER TURNING THE SWITCH ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES THEY WOULD COME ON. NOW WHEN DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY THEY WILL START GOING ON AND OFF THEN COMPLETELY GO OFF. I HAVE TO TRAVEL A LOT AT NIGHT FOR MY WORK. IF YOU PULL THE DIMMER/WIPER SWITCH TOWARD YOU AND HOLD IT THE HIGH BEAM WILL COME ON BUT WILL NOT STAY ON. NOW I AM AFRAID TO GO ANY WHERE AFTER DARK. HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DODGE GARAGES SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AND WHEN ASK IF THEY THINK REPLACING THE SWITCH COULD FIX THE PROBLEM THEY TELL YOU, WELL YOU CAN BRING IT IN AND WE CAN TRY THAT BUT CAN'T GUARANTEE THAT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM. WHY SHOULD WE PAY TO REPLACE SOMETHING THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. WE BELIEVE THAT DODGE SHOULD HAVE RECALL SINCE THERE IS SO MANY OF THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH OTHER OWNERS EVIDENTLY THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE SWITCHING OF THE HEADLIGHTS AND THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR

DODGE 2005 GRAND CARAVAN. DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD REFUSE TO OPEN WITH INSIDE BUTTON BY DOOR. WOULD OPEN IF PUSHED CONSOLE BUTTON. THE DOOR WOULD DECIDE THAT IT WAS NOT CLOSED PROPERLY AND FULLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. (VERY DANGEROUS). THE PASSENGER SIDE WOULD OPEN ONLY IF YOU USED THE KEY BOB AND HAD A JERKY MOTION THAT WOULD TRIP A SENSOR AND CLOSE THE DOOR(USUALLY ON A PASSENGER GETTING IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE DOOR WAS ADJUSTED AND DOOR MOTOR REPLACED. STILL HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR OCCASIONALLY BUMPING THE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. VERIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND RESOLVED BY LEAVING THE PLASTIC INTERIOR DOOR COVER OFF. THE PROBLEM WITH THE DOORS OPENING AND CLOSING BY THEMSELVES WAS FOUND IN BOTH CASES TO BE LINKED TO THE DOOR WIRING HARNESS. ALSO BOTH DOOR REFUSE TO LOCK (NOT A THING THAT YOU CHECK WHEN LOOKING AT A CAR AND WAS FOUND BY ACCIDENT) SEARCHING THE INTERNET SHOWED THAT THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S DESTINATION AND WAS LATER TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE ON-BOARD COMPUTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,243 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,713.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 126,000.
ABOUT ONE WEEK AGO I GOT BACK FROM BUYING GROCERIES, AND WHEN I PARKED, GOT OUT AND WAS GOING CLOSE THE DOOR, I HEARD THE WARNING SOUND. THE SAME SOUND THAT RINGS WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN THE IGNITION OR THE HEADLIGHTS ON, BUT I HAD THE KEYS IN MY HAND AND THE LIGHTS WERE ALL OFF. FROM THEN ON THE POWER LOCKS WILL NOT UNLOCK OR LOCK BY EITHER THE REMOTE OR THE DOOR SWITCH. I READ ONLINE THAT REMOVING THE IOD FUSE FOR 5 SECONDS AND REPLACING IT WOULD WORK, AND IT DID, BUT MANY ON THE ONLINE FORUM ALSO SAID THIS WAS TEMPORARY AND THAT IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN.
