ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO ENGAGE LOCKS. LOCK VERIFICATION SIGNALED LIGHTS AND HORN INDICATING THE LOCKS WERE ENGAGED. AS A RESULT OF THE FAILURE THE VAN WAS ENTERED ILLEGALLY AND PROPERTY WAS STOLEN. THIS WAS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THE ELECTRONIC LOCKING SYSTEM DID NOT DISENGAGE FROM THE CONTROLS IN THE VAN. THIS RESULTED IN THE INABILITY TO REMOVE 3 CHILDREN FROM THE VAN QUICKLY IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) HAS BEEN RESET SEVERAL TIMES TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE RESET ONLY LASTS FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE PROBLEM REPEATS ITSELF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE POWER LOCK CONTROLS WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITH THE KEY PAD AND THE CONTROLS IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY COULD PERFORM AN ELECTRICAL UPGRADE. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,034. 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. VIN [XXX]. POWER DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. CAN ONLY LOCK EACH DOOR MANUALLY AND SEPARATELY. BEGINNING IN 2007, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED. DEALER FOLLOWED GUIDELINES EACH TIME AND TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED. EACH TIME THE PROBLEM RETURNED WITHIN A FEW DAYS. I CAN NEITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK THE DOORS OF THE VEHICLE USING THE KEY FOB OR THE DOOR LOCK SWITCH INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I SEARCHED ONLINE TO SEE IF OTHERS WERE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM, AND I IMMEDIATELY FOUND THAT THE DOOR LOCK ISSUE WAS THE MOST REPORTED PROBLEM FOR THE 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THERE SEEMS TO BE NO "FIX" FOR THE PROBLEM WHEN TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. MANY CUSTOMERS HAVE REPORTED THE SAME EXPERIENCE THAT I ENCOUNTERED. THEY TOOK THEIR CARAVAN TO THE DEALER TO GET THE PROBLEM CORRECTED AND WORK WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE, ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM RECUR WITHIN A FEW DAYS OR SO. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ONE SINGLE CUSTOMER ONLINE WHO REPORTS THEY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE, AND CHRYSLER CORPORATION SEEMS TO BE IGNORING AND EVEN DENYING THAT THE ISSUE EXISTS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR CANNOT OPEN FROM INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE WIRE HARNESS HAS FAILED. THE DEALER HAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,183 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
I HAVE A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND WHEN I HAVE REACH 35000 MILES I NOTICES THAT MY POWER STEERING FLUID KEPT GET LOW, BUT I COULD NOT FIND ANY LEAKS TO SHOW ME THAT I HAD A PROBLEM. THIS WAS DOING THE WINTER TIME IN OHIO WITH SNOW ON THE GROUND WITH MADE IT EVEN MORE STRANGE THAT I DID NOT SEE ANY OIL LEAK IN THE SNOW SHOWING ME THAT I HAD A PROBLEM. THEN WHEN I REACH 50000 MILE MY BRAKE STARTED SQUEAKING AND I KNEW IT COULD NOT BE MY BRAKE PADS ON THE FRONT BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN REPLACE ABOUT 18 MONTH BACK. I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS JUST SOME ROAD GRIME THAT MIGHT HAVE GOT ON THE ROTOR. WHEN THE SOUND DID NOT STOP I RECHECK THE PAD TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WAS STILL GOOD AND THAT WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT MY STEERING BOOT WAS LEAKING AND SOME OF IT WAS GETTING ON TO THE ON TO THE ROTOR. SO BY CHANGE I DECIDE TO CHECK THE INTERNET TO SEE IT IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND I WAS SURPRISE TO FIND OUT JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE DID. THEREFORE I DISCOVERED YOUR SITE AND AGAIN WAS SURPRISE TO FIND OUT HOW MANY COMPLAINT THAT YOU HAVE HAD ABOUT THIS INSURE YET YOU STILL HAD NOT DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT. AS I SAID THE FLUID IS LEAKING ON TO THE DISC ROTOR MEANING THAT THIS IS A MORE SERIOUS PROBLEM NOT ONLY THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THE COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE STEERING:RACK AND PINION:RACK, EITHER WAY YOU LOOK AT IT EITHER YOU WON?T BE ABLE TO STOP OR YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH MEAN IT IS MORE SERIOUS THAN YOU OR ANYONE ELSE COULD EVEN IMAGING AND I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT YOU HAVE NOT DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT ALL BECAUSE NO ONE HAS DIED YET. IF EVERYONE KNEW JUST HOW UNSAFE THIS VEHICLE REALLY IS THEY WOULD BE GETTING RID OF THIS VEHICLE AS FAST AS THEY COULD BECAUSE THEIR FAMILY LIVES ARE AT STAKE HERE NOT THE BUILDER, DESIGNER, OR THE PRESIDENT OR CEO OF CHRYSLER BUT THE PEOPLE WHO ENTRUST THESE VERY PEOPLE WITH A SAFE PRODUCT. *TR
CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE REFUSED TO WORK ON THE RECALL BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS MODIFIED. THE RECALL PROBLEM HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MODIFICATIONS BUT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE REFUSED TO WORK ON IT.. AFTER SEVERAL HEATED CONVERSATIONS WITH MANAGEMENT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE RETURNED MY VEHICLE WITH A DEAD BATTERY, AND A LEAK IN MY ENGINE AND DID NOT FIX THE RECALLED ITEM. AFTER I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE NEW PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MODIFICATIONS BUT WERE INDEPENDENT FROM ANY MODIFICATIONS PREVIOUSLY MADE TO MY VEHICLE. AFTER COMPLAINING TO THE DODGE CORPORATION I WAS REFERRED TO THE DODGE SERVICE CENTER IN LAQUINTA. THERE MY CAR WAS EQUIPPED WITH A NEW BATTERY AND THE RECALL ITEM WAS NOT FIXED BECAUSE THE MANAGER REFUSED TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE MODIFICATIONS. I CALLED LAQUINTA DODGE TO COMPLAIN AND MY VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO ME WITH THE ENGINE LEAK, THE UNSERVICED RECALL ITEM AND NOW IN DOESN'T SHIFT INTO GEAR. THE CATHEDRAL CITY SERVICE CENTER AND THE LAQUINTA SERVICE CENTER DIDN'T EVEN CHECK TO SEE IF THE PROBLEMS WERE IN ANYWAY WAY CONNECTED TO THE MODIFICATIONS. THEY JUST REFUSED TO EVEN LOOK AT IT. NOW THERE IS ANOTHER RECALL ON MY DODGE GRAND CARAVAN THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE AIRBAGS AND LAQUINTA IS REFUSING TO WORK ON IT. IN SUMMARY MY VEHICLE ARRIVED IN PALM SPRINGS FULLY OPERATIONAL IN JUNE 2006 AND EVER SINCE THE FIRST CONTACT WITH CATHEDRAL CITY SERVICE CENTER MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN INOPERABLE. BETWEEN THE CATHEDRAL CITY AND LAQUINTA DODGE SERVICE CENTERS MY CAR NOW HAS AN ENGINE LEAK, A BAD HEATING COIL, DEFECTED AIRBAGS PROBLEMS SHIFTING INTO GEAR AND DOES NOT START. MY VEHICLE WAS FULLY OPERATIONAL AND HAD 80 MILES ON IT WHEN IT ARRIVED AT CATHEDRAL CITY DODGE IN 2006 AND NOW HAS 87 MILES ON IT AND IS IN OPERABLE. THAT?S 87 MILES NOT 8,700 OR 87,000 MILES. IT HAS ONLY 87 MILES BECAUSE IT HASN'T BEEN RUNNING SINCE CATHEDRAL CITY AND LAQUINTA DODGE HAVE DAMAGED MY VEHICLE. *JB
THE AIR BAG LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD RECENT RECALL REPAIRS ON THE AIR BAG SENSORS COMPLETED AND IT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE AIR BAG SYSTEM CURRENTLY WILL NOT OPERATE. THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE EXTENSIVE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE ENTIRE LOCKING SYSTEM STOPPED WORKING. I COULD NOT LOCK ANY OF THE DOORS WHETHER BY REMOTE, OR THE BUTTON INSIDE THE CAR OR WHEN THE CAR WAS IN DRIVE. THIS POSED A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE MY CHILDREN CANNOT REACH THEIR LOCKS TO MANUALLY LOCK THEM. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO SEARCH THE INTERNET AND FOUND SEVERAL OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY GAVE ADVICE ON HOW TO FIX IT. *TR
I RECENTLY HAD MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, 28000 MILES, SERVICED ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT MY FRONT BRAKES ARE 100% GONE, MY THROTTLE BODY IS PLUGGED UP, AND I HAD NO POWER STEERING FLUID. OF COURSE, AS THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME, THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER ANY OF THESE REPAIRS THAT NEED TO BE DONE.
I OWN AN '05 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 1 DOUGLAS TOURING 215/65/R16 ON DRIVER'S FRONT. TIRE BLEW AT APPROX 60 MPH IN CLEAR ROAD CONDITIONS. *AK
THE POWER DOOR LOCKS ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STOPPED WORKING AT ABOUT 67,000 MILES. I'VE HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND HE CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT. I HAVE FOUND MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM IN ONLINE FORUMS AND DECIDED IF THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THEN DODGE OUGHT TO DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT. NO POWER DOOR LOCKS IS A SAFETY ISSUE! *TR

2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SE. HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF WITH NO WARNING. FLIPPING THE SWITCH BACK AND FORTH HAS NO EFFECT ON RESTORING FUNCTION. YOU JUST HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE LIGHTS TO DECIDE TO TURN BACK ON BY THEMSELVES. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR IN CLUSTERS: ABOUT 2 TO 3 TIMES IN A WEEK, AND ABOUT 1 WEEK OUT OF EVERY 6 TO 8 MONTHS. FOR OBVIOUS REASONS, THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
THE POWER LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE DID NOT OPERATE. THIS WAS A GREAT INCONVENIENCE AND COULD LEAD TO DRIVER'S NOT LOCKING THE DOORS AND CAUSING INJURIES IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE A COUSIN WHO WAS VISITING FROM OUT OF STATE AND HE NOTICED THE PROBLEM WITH THE LOCKS. HE HAD THE SAME YEAR OF DODGE CARAVAN AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM ,AND HAD TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WAS FIXED. I BELIEVE THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED BECAUSE I DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE DOORS WILL BE LOCKED MANUALLY AND UNLOCKED MANUALLY BY USERS OF THESE CARS.*AK
AT ABOUT 12,000 OUR 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN DEVELOPED A THUMPING/BINDING IN THE STEERING/FRONT AXLE. WE HAD IT IN SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE SAME PROBLEM; BOTH AXLES WERE REPLACED AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED ALSO, YET THE THUMPING/BINDING NEVER TRULY WENT AWAY. SHORTLY OUTSIDE THE COMPREHENSIVE WARRANTY PERIOD, THE RIGHT FRONT AXLE BROKE. FORTUNATELY IT WAS IN A PARKING LOT, NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. THE RIGHT AXLE WAS REPLACED, BUT NOW THE THUMPING/BINDING IS BACK JUST LIKE IT WAS WHEN WE FIRST STARTED PURSUING GETTING THE PROBLEM FIXED. THE VAN ONLY HAS 30,300 MILES ON IT. *TR
DOOR ASSEMBLY HAS FAILED COMPLETED. IT STARTED WITH DRIVER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR - SYSTEM COULD ONLY OPEN DOOR A FEW INCHES, AND THEN THE DOOR COULD NOT BE LATCHED CLOSED. EVENTUALLY IT WOULD NOT OPEN AT ALL ELECTRONICALLY, BUT MANUALLY STARTED TO WORK AGAIN. IDENTICAL PROBLEM THEN AROSE WITH PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR. HAD IT LOOKED AT BY DEALERSHIP, CLAIMED THE TRACK WAS GONE. DOOR THEN COULD NOT BE OPENED AT ALL. TRACK COMPLETELY DISINTEGRATED AND THE DOOR WILL NOW OPEN MANUALLY, BUT CANNOT BE LOCKED WITHOUT CLIMBING THROUGH VEHICLE. *TR
HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH VAN STARTING 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. DASH LIGHTS FLASH BUT ONLY FOR SECONDS SO NO CODE CAN BE READ. ELECTRIC WINDOWS FAILING, BATTERIES REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES. HAVE GOTTEN TO POINT I PURCHASE WINDOW TRACKS AND REPLACE MYSELF TO SAVE ON COST. MOST RECENTLY DASH LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS FLASHING RAPIDLY RADIO AND AIR GO OUT AND VEHICLE WANTING TO STALL. THIS IS A CONVERSION VAN BY BRAUN. HAD HANDICAPPED PERSON IN WHEELCHAIR IN PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. VAN STALLED IN INTERSECTION BUT WAS ABLE TO GET OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD. WHERE I WAS, I COULD NOT GET WHEELCHAIR OUT OF VAN. WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED NOT TO MENTION I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND HEAT WAS AT A FEEL LIKE TEMP OF 108. AFTER 10 OR 15 MINUTES VAN RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO LIMP HOME. AUTO ELECTRIC REPAIR SHOP REPLACED IGNITION WIRING HARNESS BUT AFTER 30 DAYS IT IS NOW DOING SAME AGAIN ONLY WORSE. I NOW HAVE NO TRANSPORT FOR HANDICAPPED PERSON BECAUSE WHY FIX SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE RESOLVED WITHOUT CHANGING EVERY PART TO FIGURE OUT REAL PROBLEM. I KNOW EVEN IF THE BCM IS REPLACED THAT IS ONLY TEMPORARY ACCORDING TO OTHER REPORTS OF SAME PROBLEM I HAVE. *TR
TURN SIGNALS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY - "CONFUSED". THIS PROBLEM HAS JUST BEGUN IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS WITH OUR 2005 GRAND CARAVAN. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, WHEN YOU SIGNAL TO TURN RIGHT, THE LEFT TURN SIGNALS COMES ON. THEN, IF YOU SIGNAL TO THE LEFT, NO TURN SIGNALS WILL LIGHT. THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER MOVEMENT FEELS NORMAL WHEN THIS OCCURS (DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE CATCHING OR HANGING UP ON ANY THING). IF YOU JIGGLETHE LEVER BACK AND FORTH THE SIGNALS WILL WORK NORMALLY AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME WE NOTICED IT WAS WHILE DRIVING IN A HEAVY RAIN STORM, BUT NOW IT HAPPENS A COUPLE OF TIME A WEEK. THE VEHICLE WAS IN TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT IS BECOMING MORE PREVALENT AND MAYBE THE NEXT TIME THEY CAN OBSERVE THE ACTUAL FAILURE. *TR
IN THE 05 AND NEWER DODGE/CHRYSLER CARS AND MINIVANS, THERE IS A "KNEE BLOCKER" AIRBAG SYSTEM INSTALLED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BELOW THE STEERING COLUMN, THAT IS DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN AND IN IT'S INTENDED USE. THE LOWER DASH PANEL IS ATTACHED TO A METAL FRAME THAT IS HINGED AT THE BOTTOM AND BEHIND THAT IS THE AIRBAG THAT DEPLOYS AT JUST UNDER 200 MPH. WHEN THE AIRBAG INFLATES IN AN ACCIDENT, THIS HARD PLASTIC REINFORCE PANEL WILL SLAM DOWN ON A DRIVER'S LEGS CAUSING INJURY. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL... WHEN THE DRIVER'S LEGS ARE STRUCK, THE FIRST INSTINCT IS FOR THE DRIVER TO RECOIL AND BRING THEIR LEGS AWAY FROM THE CAUSE OF THE PAIN. WHEN THEY DO THIS, THIS PANEL DROPS IN FRONT OF THE LEGS AND NOW THE DRIVER CANNOT GET THEIR FEET BACK TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IF THEIR VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL, THERE IS A DANGER OF A FURTHER COLLISION WITH THE DRIVER HAVING LITTLE CONTROL. ONE LAST CONSIDERATION, IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT INJURY TO DIABETICS (LOWER LIMBS ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO LOWER LEG PROBLEMS, AND THOSE WITH OSTEOPOROSIS WHO LIKELY WOULD HAVE BROKEN LOWER LIMBS. *TR
THE KNEE BLOCKER AIRBAG IN MY 05 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN OPENED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION. THE AIRBAG IS BEHIND A STEEL PLATE HINGED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH. ATTACHED TO THIS PLATE IS THE HARD PLASTIC PANEL. THE AIRBAG PROPELLED THIS PLATE AND PANEL INTO MY SHINS, DISABLING ME, AND WHEN I BROUGHT MY LEGS BACK FROM THE PAIN, THE HARD PLASTIC PANEL DROPPED IN FRONT OF MY LEGS AND PREVENTED ME FROM RETURNING MY FEET TO THE BRAKE. HAD I BEEN SUFFERING FROM OSTEOPOROSIS MY LEGS WOULD HAVE BEEN SHATTERED AND I COULD NOT HAVE STOPPED MY VAN, HAD IT CONTINUED TO ROLL AFTER THE INITIAL COLLISION. *JB
CHRYSLER/DODGE MINIVANS 2005 AND NEWER "KNEE BOLSTER" AIRBAG SYSTEM, HAS A STEEL PLATE HINGED AT THE BOTTOM OF THE DASH AND IS PROPELLED BY THE DEPLOYING AIRBAG INTO THE DRIVER'S LEGS. THE DRIVER IMMEDIATELY AND INSTINCTIVELY PULLS THE LEGS BACK AND THE ASSEMBLY DROPS IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER'S LEGS PREVENTING THE DRIVER FROM STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THAT IS IF THE DRIVER'S LEGS AREN'T BROKEN BY THIS, AND THEN THEY CAN'T STOP THE VEHICLE IF THEY WANTED TO. THIS WILL LEAD TO SECONDARY AND MORE SERIOUS COLLISIONS AND POSSIBLY DEATH FOR OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DRIVER CANNOT STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
ABS LIGHT ON -- DEALER REPLACED LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (SECOND OCCURRENCE). *TR
2005 GRAND CARAVAN SXT WAS PURCHASED ON JANUARY 12, 2005. THIS IS MY SECOND DODGE CARAVAN. MY FIRST WAS A 1999. ON DECEMBER 21, 2005, AFTER LESS THAN ONE YEAR, WITH 17248 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I BROUGHT IT IN BECAUSE I WAS HEARING A WHINING SOUND WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL AND THERE WERE OIL SPOTS ON MY GARAGE FLOOR, UNDER THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND, SINCE IT WAS SITLL UNDER WARRANTY, I WASN'T TO WORRIED AS LONG AS IT WOULD BE FIXED. ON MAY 22, 2007, AFTER LESS THAN ONE AND A HALF YEARS AFTER THE FIRST RACK AND PINION REPLACEMENT AND WITH 41558 MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT IN BECAUSE THIS TIME I WAS HEARING A LOUD RUBBING/WHINING SOUND WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND THERE WERE OIL SPOTS ON THE SAME SPOT ON MY GARAGE FLOOR, UNDER THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF MY VEHICLE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW I NEED TO PUT A THIRD RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY IN MY VAN AFTER ONLY LESS THAN TWO AND A HALF YEARS OF OWNERSHIP AND ONLY 41558 MILES ON THE VEHICLE! I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST ME AROUND $800-$900 FOR THE REPAIR, PARTS AND LABOR! I HAVE TO PAY THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY EVERY YEAR, OR YEAR AND A HALF, FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM?
INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF ELECTRIC LOCK SYSTEM, INCLUDING REMOTE. SYSTEM CAN BE RESTORED BY DISCONNECTING STARTING BATTERY FOR 3+ MINUTES. GAUGES FAILED WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION, LOSS OF SPEEDOMETER, TACHOMETER, ODOMETER, FAILURE LIGHTS AND ELECTRIC LOCKS. GAUGES WERE RESTORED BY AFOREMENTIONED BATTERY DISCONNECT METHOD. HOWEVER, ELECTRIC LOCKS FAILED TO RESTORE TO REMOTE OPERATION. BATTERY REMOTE OPERATED NORMALLY. *AK
TRANSMISSION SHIFED FROM FOURTH GEAR TO SECOND GEAR AT 60 MPH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT. DEALER REPLACED TRANS MISSION CONTROL MODULE. NINE DAYS LATER TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR. DEALER REPLACED TRANSMISSION SOLENOID.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN MOTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR DOOR LOCK MODULE WOULD NOT OPERATE. THIS MALFUNCTION AFFECTED ALL OF THE OTHER DOORS AS WELL. IN ADDITION, THE AUTOMATIC INSTANT KEY LOCK DEVICE THAT ACTIVATES WHILE DRIVING HAS NOT BEEN OPERATING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000. UPDATED 07/10/08. *LJ
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS REAR ENDED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO REAR END THE PROCEEDING VEHICLE. THIS CAUSED BOTH THE REAR AND FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE TO BE COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT'S CHILD WAS INJURED AND PROPERTY DAMAGE INCURRED. ON MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT STARTED COMING ON WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS GOING OVER 45 MILES PER HOUR. DURING THE LAST OIL CHANGE I HAD THE DEALER REVIEW THE ISSUE AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT BOTH FRONT AIR BAG IMPACT SENSORS WERE CORRODED DUE TO WATER GETTING TO THE SENSOR. I DID A QUICK SEARCH FOR A RECALL AND FOUND THAT THE 2005 DODGE CARAVAN WAS ON RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE (07V192000) HOWEVER I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS AN ISSUE ON THE CARAVANS MY VIN DID NOT MATCH SO I WASN'T COVERED BY THE RECALL. SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE NHTAS WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM WHICH I ALSO REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER.
WE MAY BE HAVING TWO SEPARATE PROBLEMS WITH THE 2005 GRAND CARAVAN. THE ISSUE OF PRIMARY CONCERN WAS THAT THE VEHICLE OCCASIONALLY, AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON , DIED WHILE BEING DRIVEN. SINCE WE OWNED THE VEHICLE THIS HAPPENED ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. WHEN THE VEHICLE DIED WE LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER OR STOP. ON ALL OCCASIONS WE HAVE BEEN GOING AT SPEEDS OF LESS THAN 35 MPH. ON THE LAST OCCASION WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN ON A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE DIED 1/4 OF THE WAY INTO THE TURN. HAD THE STEERING WHEEL NOT BEEN TURNED PRIOR TO THE VEHICLE STALLING WE WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING STRAIGHT INTO THE CROSSING TRAFFIC WITH NO WAY OF STOPPING OR TURNING AWAY. I AM A MOTHER OF 4 CHILDREN AND WAS IN THE VEHICLE ALONE AT THE TIME. LUCKILY NONE OF MY CHILDREN WERE WITH ME, AND THE VEHICLES AROUND ME WERE PAYING ATTENTION. I STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME WITHOUT HAVING THE PROBLEM AGAIN. ON THE OTHER OCCASIONS THE PROBLEM PERSISTED UNTIL MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO GET UP TO SPEEDS GREATER THAN 35 MPH. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO OUR LOCAL DODGE DEALER TWICE FOR THIS PROBLEM, AND THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM EITHER TIME. NO REPAIRS WERE BEEN MADE TO THE VEHICLE IN THIS REGARD. THE ABOVE SOUNDED VERY SIMILAR TO THE NHTSA ACTION # PE05027. OUR SECOND ISSUE MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO THE ABOVE AND WE CONSIDERED IT A NUISANCE. WE INCLUDED THIS INFORMATION WITH THE THOUGHT THAT IT COULD BE A SYMPTOM OF ABOVE THAT OTHERS WERE EXPERIENCING. THE SAME FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START SPORADICALLY. WHEN WE TRIED TO START IT ALL OF THE NEEDLE GAUGES ON THE DASHBOARD WILL SHOOT TO THE RIGHT, AND THEN DROP BACK DOWN TO THE LEFT, AND BOUNCE AROUND ON THE LEFT QUARTER OF THE GAUGE. WE ATTEMPT TO JUMP START THE VEHICLE AND AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT WILL START UP. THERE DID NOT SEEM TO BE A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE TWO PROBLEMS , BEYOND THEY BOTH APPEARED TO BE ELECTRICAL. *AK
I HAVE A 2005 CARAVAN AND RECENTLY, WE'VE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THE COMPUTER. THE POWER DOOR LOCKS HAVE QUIT WORKING, EITHER WITH THE REMOTE OR MANUALLY. I TOOK MY VEHICLE, A 2005 DODGE CARAVAN, TO KEMPTHORN DODGE IN CANTON OHIO BECAUSE THE AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE FOB KEYS WERE MAKING THE LEFT FRONT AND REAR LIGHTS FLASH AND LOCKS CLICK WHEN YOU GOT THE KEYS CLOSE TO THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS ALSO A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION. KEMTHORNS TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE PASSENGER AIR BAG, THE KEY TRANSMITTERS WERE BAD AND THAT THE FRONT SWAY BAR LINKS AND BUSHING WERE WORN OUT. THE VEHICLE HAD 42,392 MILES ON IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT TO FIX THE SHORT IN THE AIR BAG, THE DASH BOARD HAD TO BE PULLED AND THE TOTAL COST TO FIX EVERYTHING WOULD BE 1,000.00. I WAS CHARGED 150.00 JUST TO FIND THE PROBLEMS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC AND HE VERIFIED THE SHORT IN THE AIR BAG BUT FOUND THAT THE SWAY BAR LINKS AND BUSHINGS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE. THE PROBLEM WAS THE RIGHT FRONT STRUT AT THE TOP. HE ALSO HAD THE TWO KEYS REPLACED AT A FRACTION OF THE DEALER'S COST. SINCE THEN THE AIR BAG LIGHT WENT OUT.
WHEN USING THE SWITCH THE HEADLIGHTS WILL NOT COME ON. SOMETIMES EITHER NEED TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTART AND THEN TURN SWITCH ON AGAIN OR TURN HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE HEADLIGHTS WILL COME ON. *TR

MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT WITH 50100 MILES ON IT HAD THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LAMP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL REMAIN ON DURING NORMAL VEHICLE OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS OCCASIONALLY DRIVEN IN HEAVY RAIN AND SEASONALLY WAS EXPOSED TO MID-ATLANTIC WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY IMPACT OR DISTURBANCE TO FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS, AND THE TECHNICIAN FOUND NO COMMUNICATION FROM LF IMPACT SENSOR. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED CORROSION ON THE PIN CONNECTORS , LOCATED INSIDE A SUPPOSEDLY WATERPROOF WEATHERPAC RUBBER CONNECTOR, WHERE THE WIRING HARNESS PLUGGED INTO THE SENSOR. *AK THE LF SENSOR AND ABOUT 3" OF THE WIRING HARNESS WAS REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $240. AFTER READING THE NUMBER OF INSTANCES OF THIS OCCURING ON OTHER VEHICLES I ASSUME THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THE RF SENSOR FAILS AS WELL. I STRONGLY FEEL THAT THIS FAILURE IS A DESIGN DEFECT AND THE COST TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM (PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE) SHOULD NOT BE BOURNE BY THE CONSUMER. ADDITIONALLY, THE METHOD WATERPROOFING THE SPLICING OF THE NEW SENSOR WIRING CONSISTED ONLY OF HAND WRAPPED ELECTRICAL TAPE AROUND THE WIRES. IF THAT METHOD IS STANDARD REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE FOR A COMPONENT THAT IS DIRECTLY EXPOSED TO WHEEL SPRAY, THEN IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT THERE WILL BE A SECOND WAVE OF FAILURES WHEN THE WIRING SPLICES SHORT OUT IN VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN SERVICED. I DO HAVE THE DEFECTIVE SENSOR AND MATING HARNESS AND WOULD BE HAPPY TO PROVIDE IT FOR INSPECTION IF NECESSARY.

OVER TIME THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE DEVELOPED A WHINE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A PIECE OF DEBRIS STUCK IN THE COOLING FAN. HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO DEBRIS. THE WHINE CONTINUED TO WORSEN OVER SEVERAL WEEKS. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND FOUND THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP LEAKED, LEADING TO DAMAGE TO THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM. THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION HAD TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE WE HAD TO WAIT 3 WEEKS FOR PARTS, AND CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN WINTER WITH THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE POWER STEERING WOULD FAIL AT ANY TIME. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS A 3 WEEK WAIT BECAUSE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO SO MANY RACK AND PINION FAILURES AROUND THE COUNTRY. IF THERE WERE THAT MANY FAILURES THIS DESERVED A RECALL. THIS HAPPENED AT 38,000 MILES, AND SO WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE REPAIR COST WAS APPROXIMATELY $1300.00. *AK

I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, HAVE APPROX. 39,000 MILES , AND WILL IT WILL COST AROUND $300. AT THE SAME TIME, THE RIGHT PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING , SO THEY CHECKED THAT ONE AS WELL. THE TRACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY SINCE IT WAS CONSIDERED ELECTRICAL. WHY WERE THE AIRBAG SENSORS NOT CONSIDERED ELECTRICAL? THE AIRBAG SENSORS WERE ON BACKORDER, AND COULD TAKE 1 - 2 WEEKS. I WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE MY CAR UNTIL THE SENSORS WERE REPLACED. MY CAR WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND I BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW. IN MARCH 2006 I HAD TO HAVE TO FUEL GUAGE/SENSOR REPLACED AS THE LIGHT WOULD NOT COME ON WHEN I WAS LOW ON GAS. I RAN OUT OF GAS TWICE.AK

ON NOVEMBER 20TH, A MODULE (PART NUMBER 5144579-AC) WAS REPLACED IN THE VEHICLE DUE TO INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHTS. JANUARY 8TH, THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED BECAUSE THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE DURING OPERATION. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM.
