WEEK AFTER WEEK I WAIT TO HAVE THE RECALL WORK DONE ON MY VEHICLE, AND THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP REPEATEDLY EXPLAINS THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE FROM THE MAKER. CHRYSLER CORPORATE OFFICES CONFIRMED THAT THE PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE AND THAT THERE IS A LONG LIST OF PEOPLE WAITING FOR THEIR PARTS. WITH THIS EXTREMELY UNSAFE CONDITION OF THE IGNITION SWITCH CUTTING OFF AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING AND LACK OF POWER BREAKS, IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT CHRYSLER HAS SPENT NEARLY A YEAR SINCE THE INITIAL COMPLAINT AND STILL CANNOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. THE RECALL IS OUT, BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THE PROBLEM FIXED BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT SUPPLYING PARTS TO THEIR DEALERSHIPS.
ON SUNDAY I STARTED MY VAN WITH THE REMOTE AND PULLED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY. ONCE IN THE BUSY STREET, THE ENGINE DIED AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED, LEAVING ME UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO CARS COMING AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE IGNITION DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE KEY, AND THEREFORE SHUT OFF AFTER THE PRESCRIBED TIME OF LETTING THE ENGINE RUN THROUGH THE KEYLESS START. I WANT TO MAKE YOU AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT SEEMS IT COULD BE QUITE DANGEROUS. I HAVE ALSO REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO THE MANUFACTURER SO THEY CAN BE ADVISED OF IT AS WELL. *TR
WHEN I STOP THE VAN, PUT IT IN PARK & SHUT IT OFF, THE KEY IS STUCK IN THE ACC POSITION AND WILL NOT MOVE TO THE OFF POSITION. IN ORDER TO GET THE KEY TO RELEASE, I HAVE TO START THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES, MOVE THE SHIFT IN & OUT OF PARK, MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND EVENTUALLY I WILL HEAR A "CLICKING" NOISE AND THE KEY RELEASES AND WILL THEN MOVE INTO THE OFF POSITION. I CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND ASKED IF THIS COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CURRENT RECALL FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH AND WAS TOLD NO. HAS ANYBODY ELSE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM? *TR

THE FIRST INSTANCE OF MY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM GOING HAYWIRE WAS AROUND JULY 31, 2014. IT WAS A QUICK MOMENT THAT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS COMING TO A STOP. THE WIPERS STARTED GOING ON THEIR OWN, THE HORN HONKED, THE WINDSHIELD FLUID STARTED SPRAYING, AND MY LOCKS STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN. IT STOPPED AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE THEN STARTED AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, UNTIL I UNPLUGGED THE BATTERY. IT BECAME AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE THAT I WOULD THINK WENT AWAY AND THEN WOULD HAPPEN RANDOMLY. I DECIDED TO BRING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT IN OCTOBER OF 2014, WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ISSUE AS MY NEEDING A NEW WIN MODULE. HOWEVER, AFTER THAT REPLACEMENT, THE ISSUE CONTINUED. THE ISSUE HAPPENS WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE HAPPENING. WHETHER THE KEYS ARE IN THE IGNITION AND I AM DRIVING OR IF I AM SITTING IN MY OFFICE BUILDING, A DISTANCE AWAY FROM MY CAR, WITH MY KEYS AT MY DESK. MY KEYS CAN BE IN THE IGNITION, OR OUT OF THE IGNITION. IT DOESN'T MATTER. MY CAR DOES AS IT PLEASES, WHEN IT PLEASES. AGAIN, THE LOCKS, WIPERS, AND WINDSHIELD FLUID JUST START GOING ON THEIR OWN. THE HORN ALSO GOES, BUT I HAVE REMOVED THE HORN FUSES SO I DO NOT HONK AT RANDOM PEOPLE WHEN I AM DRIVING. SOME FORUMS SAY THIS IS A TIPM ISSUE. SOME SAY IT IS AN IGNITION MODULE ISSUE. SOME SAY IT HAS TO DO WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WIRING. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE REASON IS. I HAVE SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS "FIXING" THIS ISSUE BUT IT IS STILL HAPPENING. THIS IS A LIFE AND DEATH SITUATION AS I COULD GET RAMMED FROM BEHIND AND MYSELF AND CHILDREN MAY BE KILLED. 2010 @ 40,000 MILES, TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) REPLACED DUE TO ELECTRICAL ISSUES WITH DOOR LOCKS (UNDER WARRANTY). 2014 @ 124,000 MILES TIPM SHORT AGAIN STARTING WITH THE FRONT BLOWER MOTOR. TIPM NEEDS REPLACED AGAIN. ESTIMATE $900, NO PARTS AVAILABLE DUE TO MASSIVE BACK ORDER AND NO TIMELINE OF WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE VEHICLE DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES (I.E. RANDOM AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT, LOSS OF IGNITION, FIRE HAZARD). MAIN VEHICLE FOR FAMILY OF FIVE, MUST DRIVE DAILY FOR WORK AND FAMILY APPOINTMENTS. *TR
THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WILL NOT TURN OFF AND MY BLINKERS, SPRAY, REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS, AND BRIGHTS WILL NOT TURN ON. I HAVE TRIED RESETTING THE BATTERY AND THIS ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS THE TIPM, WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS HARD TO GET YOUR HANDS ON, AND THE PRICE OF REPLACEMENT IS EXTREMELY HIGH. IT APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CARAVAN. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ELECTRONIC ISSUES INCLUDING WINDOWS THAT DO NOT ROLL DOWN, DOORS THAT DO NOT UNLOCK, KEY THAT GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION, AND SLIDING DOORS THAT STOP WORKING. *TR

THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS L25 NHTSA 14V-373. THE FIAT CHRYSLER HOTLINE FOR RECALLS HAS THE NUMBER AS R03. THEY HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT THIS DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME, BECAUSE THIS IS 14 MONTHS. VEHICLE HAD TWO PEOPLE INSIDE DURING THE INCIDENT AND TWO WITNESSES FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE BEHIND, IN ANOTHER CAR. WITNESSES DESCRIBED SEEING THE DODGE CARAVAN TAKE OFF SUDDENLY BEYOND THE LEGAL SPEED LIMIT, WITH SMOKE POURING OUT FROM THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON. DRIVER DESCRIBED THAT HE FELT THE THROTTLE PEDAL PHYSICALLY STUCK AND THE VEHICLE'S RPM INCREASING, EVEN WHILE PRESSING AND PUMPING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHILE MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED AT A CAMPGROUND, I CLICK MY KEY FOB TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AND THE REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER STARTED GOING OFF. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS BEGINNING IN JUNE '14 MY 08 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN SXT WOULD HAVE RANDOM ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS INCLUDING SYNCED, INTERMITTENT ACTIVATION OF HORNS, FRONT WIPERS, REAR WIPERS, FRONT WASHER FLUID SPRAY, REAR WASHER FLUID SPRAY, AND DOOR LOCKS. THESE ISSUES WOULD GENERALLY COME TOGETHER IN "EPISODES" THAT COULD LAST FROM ABOUT A MINUTE TO ABOUT 10 MINUTES. THESE EPISODES COULD OCCUR IN RAPID SUCCESSION, SEPARATED BY ONLY A FEW SECONDS, OR THEY MIGHT HAVE 5-10 MINUTES OR SOMETIMES DAYS BETWEEN HAPPENINGS. THIS WOULD CAUSE SUDDEN LOSS OF VISIBILITY WHILE DRIVING, AS THE SPRAYERS WOULD COVER THE WINDSHIELD WITH DROPS BUT THE WIPERS WOULD NOT COMPLETE A PASS TO REMOVE THE FLUID. IT WAS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT, SINCE THE DROPS WOULD REFRACT LIGHT AND MAKE VISIBILITY ALMOST ZERO. THIS ALSO RESULTED IN BEING LOCKED OUT OF THE VEHICLE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, ONCE WITH CHILDREN TRAPPED INSIDE!! WHILE THE PROBLEMS WERE HAPPENING, THE REMOTE "CLICKER" COULD NOT BE USED TO UNLOCK OR OPEN DOORS OR LIFT-GATE. THE ONLY WAY TO ENTER THE VEHICLE WAS TO USE THE PHYSICAL KEY AND FORCE THE LOCK TO TURN AGAINST THE PRESSURE OF THE POWERED DOOR LOCK MOTOR REPEATEDLY RE-LOCKING THE DOORS OTHER INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS: TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT ADVANCE BEYOND 2ND GEAR, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD COME ON, THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WOULD FLASH AND FLICKER, THE BACK-UP CAMERA WOULD FLICKER (THE IMAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE RADIO'S SCREEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN REVERSE), THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYS WOULD ALL BE TURNED OFF OR TO ZERO (INCLUDING TACHOMETER EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING), AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WITH THE KEY SWITCHED TO "OFF" AND COMPLETELY REMOVED.
