TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE, THE KEY FOBIK COULD NOT BE IMMEDIATELY REMOVED AND THE ENGINE FAILED TO TURN OFF. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 14V373000 WAS RECEIVED IN JUNE 2014. AFTER CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND NO ESTIMATED TIME FOR RECEIVING THE PARTS COULD BE PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION HOUSING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V139000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 168,000.
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF, THE KEY GETS STUCK IN THE IGNITION. THIS HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, AND SOMETIMES IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE IS TURNED OFF. THE KEY WILL NOT TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE "OFF" POSITION AND HAS TO BE MOVED AROUND AND TRIED SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT WILL TURN AND COME OUT. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE STORE THIS MORNING, I WAS TAKING A TURN ONTO MY STREET WHEN THE ENGINE SHUT OFF AND I LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL TO COMPLETE THE REST OF THE TURN AND AVOID HITTING ANOTHER CAR THAT WAS TURNING TO GO THE WAY THAT I WAS COMING FROM. THE LADY IN THE OTHER CAR WAS LOOKING AT ME IN FEAR WITH HER ARMS RAISED LIKE "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" I TRIED TO TURN THE ENGINE ON SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO LUCK AS I COASTED DOWN MY STREET FORCEFULLY PUMPING THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. ONCE I TOOK THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT STARTED. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH OTHER MODELS AS WELL. THERE IS EVEN A RECALL ON DODGE GRAND CARAVANS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED FROM 3 AUGUST 2009 TO 17 JUNE 2010 FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. I HAVE READ ON THIS WEBSITE AND MANY OTHERS THAT THIS ISSUE EXISTS OUTSIDE THESE DATES THOUGH AND THAT THE DODGE COMPANY IS NOT DOING ANYTHING. I HAVE NOT CONSULTED WITH MY DEALERSHIP YET BUT I AM HOPEFUL BECAUSE THEY SEEM TO BE GREAT PEOPLE. WHATEVER THE CASE, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE HAVING MY WIFE DRIVE MY CHILDREN AROUND. I DO NOT FEEL AS IF SHE WOULD BE ABLE TO MUSCLE THE STEERING WHEEL WITHOUT POWER STEERING DURING A TURN IN THE EVENT THAT THE CAR TURNED OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AS IT DID TO ME. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED TO ENCOMPASS ALL THE YEARS THAT ARE AFFECTED AND NOT JUST THE ONES WHERE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DRIVER'S WINDOW WHEN IT BECAME STUCK AND SMOKE STARTED TO EMIT INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED, THE WINDSHIELD WIPER ACTIVATED, AND THE TWO FRONT WINDOWS OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT WHO WAS A CERTIFIED MECHANIC AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FOUND THE WIRING HARNESS HAD BROKEN WIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.

VAN BEGAN MAKING LOUD, GRINDING NOISE. NOISE SEEMED LOUDER WHEN STEERING MORE TO THE RIGHT. ON VISIT TO DEALERSHIP FOR IGNITION RECALL ISSUE, THEY LOOKED AT WHERE NOISE WAS COMING FROM - SINCE THEY HEARD IT WHEN THEY DROVE VAN BACK TO THE SERVICE AREA. THEY SAID IT WAS A WHEEL BEARING / HUB ON RIGHT FRONT. DEALERSHIP SAID VAN WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. IT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. IS THIS A SAFETY ISSUE ENOUGH TO BE A RECALL ISSUE? *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER AND SHUTS OFF RESULING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING MAKING MANUEVERING AND CONTROLLING VEHICLE DIFFICULT. MECHANICS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. HAVE DRIVEN AND EXPERIENCED PROBLEM BUT HAVE NO SOLUTION. *TR
MY FATHER HAS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN AND ON MAY 14 2014 HE WENT SHOPPING STOPPING AT 3 DIFFERENT PLACES AND THEN RETURNED HOME PICKED UP THE MAIL AND DROVE TO THE TOP OF THE DRIVEWAY. HE PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND SHUT IT OFF HE GOT OUT AND WALKED OVER TO MY MOM AND HANDED HER THE PAPER THEN HE TURNED AROUND AND WALKED BACK TO THE CAR AND REACHED OVER THE SEAT TO GET THE REST OF THE MAIL WHEN THE CAR STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS DRAGGING HIM WITH IT FOR AROUND 30 FEET AND THEN HITTING THE PORCH ON THE HOUSE NEXT DOOR. HE WAS PINNED UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND MY SON WAS HOME AT THE TIME AND CALLED 911. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND AMBULANCES CAME AND THEY HAD TO USE AIR BAG PUMPS AND WOODEN BLOCKS TO GET THE CAR OFF OF HIM. HE WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A CRUSHED LEG AND CUTS TO THE BONE. HE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON HIS LEG AND HE WAS IN THERE FOR 4 DAYS AND THEN THEY SENT HIM TO A REHAB FOR HIS INJURIES. THEN HE CAME HOME AFTER 2 WEEKS AND THEN 8 DAYS AFTER WITH THE HOME HEALTH NURSES CHECKING ON HIM AND CHANGING BANDAGES IT GOT A MASSIVE INFECTION SO HE ENDED BACK IN A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL FOR ANOTHER SURGERY THIS TIME THEY REMOVED ALL OF HIS SKIN ON HIS LEG IN THE FRONT ON THE AFFECTED AREAS TO THE BONE AND MUSCLE. HE NOW HAS A PHONY SKIN GRAFT ON THE OPEN HOLES THAT ARE AT LEAST A QUARTER OF AN INCH DEEP AND HE HAS TO GO TO THE WOUND CENTER ONCE A WEEK UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AND ALSO THE HOME HEALTH NURSES ARE NOW BACK EVERY OTHER DAY TO KEEP AN EYE ON IT AND CHANGE BANDAGES MY MOTHER IS SO DISGUSTED NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO HER WE TOLD THE STATE POLICE WHO CAME THAT DAY THAT THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND AFTER ROLLING BACK 30 FEET WAS LOCKED IN PARK AND WOULD NOT COME OUT BUT THE STEERING WHEEL AND TIRES WERE STILL TURNING. HE ADMITTED THAT YES THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS CAR BUT THAT IS AS FOR AS IT WENT. ALSO WHEN WE CALLED GEICO WE TOLD THEM THE WHOLE STORY. *TR
UPON STARTING VEHICLE THE FOBIK MAY NOT FULLY SEATED IN "ON" POSITION. IF NOT FULLY SEATED, THE FOBIK COULD INADVERTENTLY MOVE TO "ACCESSORY" MODE. THIS COULD UNINTENDED SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND PASSIVE RESTRAINT SYSTEM, INCLUDING AIRBAG SHUT OFF. THIS COULD INCREASE RISK OF CRASH UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS AND INCREASE RISK OF OCCUPANT INJURY. ALSO, THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE MODULE MAY HAVE UNINTENTIONAL MOVEMENT OF FOBIK. WIFE WAS DRIVING AROUND 40 MPH WHEN TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON AND SHE LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, LUCKILY THERE WAS NO CAR COMING. SHE THEN TURNED THE VAN OFF AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. SHE SAID SHE IS NEVER DRIVING IT AGAIN BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE. LAST YEAR WE HAD THE TIPM REPLACED AFTER THE SEEMINGLY COMMON PROBLEM OF HORN HONKING, WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING AND SOLVENT SPRAYING RANDOMLY SEVERAL TIMES. NOT SURE HOW CHRYSLER CAN GET AWAY WITH HAVING ALL OF THESE LIFE ENDANGERING ISSUES WITHOUT HAVING RECALLS AND FIXING THEM. BUT WHAT I DO KNOW IS WE WILL NEVER BUY A CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING OR IN PARK WITH OR WITHOUT KEY IN THE IGNITION. THE WIPERS START GOING THE FLUID WILL SPRAY THE HORN WILL HONK THE DOORS WILL LOCK..(AND HAS ON 1 OCCASION LOCKED MY CHILDREN IN THE VAN AND I COULD NOT GET THEM OUT UNTIL IT STOPPED ABOUT 2 MINUTES LATER) I'VE HAD THE HEAT AND AC STOP WORKING I'VE HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES, LIGHTS GOING OFF WHILE DRIVING IN THE DARK! MULTIPLE PROBLEMS THAT ALL LEAD BACK TO THIS TIMP MODULE THAT DODGE,CHRYSLER JEEP WILL NOT RECALL NOR FIX..AND THE DEALERSHIP IS NO HELP EITHER BECAUSE THEY'LL RUN MULTIPLE DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS AND SAY THERE IS NOTHING WRONG EVEN IF YOU BRING IT IN WHILE IT'S HAVING AN EPISODE AND THEY CLEARLY SEE THERE IS A PROBLEM IF THE DIAGNOSTIC COMES BACK WITH NOTHING THEM THEY SEND YOU ON YOUR WAY BECAUSE THEY CAN'T HELP THEY SAY. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE REAR SLIDING DOOR LOCKS AND WILL NOT UNLOCK WITH KEY FOB OR UNLOCK BUTTON ON BOTH FRONT DOORS. IT ALSO WILL NOT OPEN WITH A PULL ON THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE. YOU HAVE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK IT ON THAT DOOR BEFORE IT WILL OPEN. I THINK THIS WOULD CAUSE A ISSUE IF I EVER NEED TO GET MY KIDS OUT IN A HURRY! ALSO THIS VAN HAS 30000 MILES ON IT AND IT USES APPROXIMATELY 1-1/2 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. ITS NOT SHOWING ANY SIGHS OF LEAKING ANYWHERE IN THE ENGINE OR UNDER THE VAN AND NOT LEAVING ANY PUDDLES ANYWHERE. I ASKED THE DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THIS WAS NORMAL FOR A DODGE VEHICLE.... IN MY EYES THAT SHOULD NOT BE USING THAT MUCH OIL. I AM USING WHAT IS REQUIRED 10W20 SAE ACCORDING TO ME OWNERS MANUAL. I HAVE REPLACED THE PCV VALVE AND STILL CONTINUING TO LOOSE OIL. *TR

MY AIRBAG LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER A YEAR. I RECENTLY HAD IT CHECKED OUT AT TIRE KINGDOM WHERE THEY CHECKED IT AND TOLD ME THAT THE DIAGNOSTICS ARE COMING BACK THAT IT IS NOT AN AIR BAG ISSUE, BUT RATHER A SEAT BELT ISSUE. WHEN I INQUIRED ABOUT THIS AT A LOCAL DODGE DEALER, I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE A $110 CHARGE JUST TO CHECK IT. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS LIGHT BEING ON COULD INDICATE THAT THERE IS A LARGER PROBLEM THAT COULD RESULT IN MY AIRBAGS NOT DEPLOYING PROPERLY IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY TO FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE OR A PART MALFUNCTION. I HOPE THAT OTHERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE SO THAT WE CAN GET HELP FOR THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL.
OUR 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAD AN ISSUE ON THE EVENING OF APRIL 21ST, 2014 WHERE THE KEY JUST FELL OUT OF THE IGNITION. IT DID NOT HAVE AN IMPACT ON BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR, BUT IT JUST FELL OUT. THE NEXT MORNING THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OR COME BACK OUT ONCE IT WAS PLACED INTO THE IGNITION. WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO CARMAX WHERE THEY COMPLETED THE REPAIR AND WE WERE FINE WITH THEIR SERVICE. WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN NOVEMBER 2011. WE WERE LATER NOTIFIED BY DODGE ABOUT A SAFETY RECALL THAT INVOLVED A WIN MODULE AND THEY DESCRIBED THE POSSIBLE ISSUES EXACTLY AS WHAT HAPPENED TO US. SINCE WE HAD ALREADY GOTTEN THE WORK DONE AND THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVING GREAT SINCE CARMAX DID THE REPAIR, WE FELT DODGE SHOULD REIMBURSE US SINCE THAT IS WHAT THEIR RECALL NOTIFICATION STATED. NOW DODGE IS SAYING IT WAS A DIFFERENT PART AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR OWN RECALL. CARMAX WAS AWESOME AND WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT NOT HAPPY WITH DODGE SINCE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND REFUSE TO HONOR IT. *TR

DAILY THE IGNITION MUST BE TURNED 4-5 TIMES BEFORE STARTING OR WILL START AND IMMEDIATELY SHUT DOWN. WE HAVE REMOVED ALL EXTRA KEYS AND KEY CHAINS AS STATED BY CHRYSLER. CALLING CHRYSLER HAS BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL AS THEY HAVE A RECORDING CLAIMING THE RECALL PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME AND WAIT TIMES FOR OVER 15 MINS WILL NOT STILL ALLOW YOU TO TALK TO SOMEONE IN PERSON. THEREFORE THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO REPAIR. IS GM OFFERING A FREE LOANER UNTIL THIS VEHICLE IS DECLARED SAFE? I HAVE A PAYMENT AND DO NO LONGER WISH TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. WAS INFORMED BY DODGE DEALERSHIP THAT VEHICLE HAS BAD WIN MODULE. DODGE NOT WILLING TO REPLACE - THIS PART HAS BEEN RECALLED ON MULTIPLE CHRYSLER AND JEEP VEHICLES SHOWING THIS TO BE AN INHERENTLY DEFECTIVE PART, AND SHOULD BE RECALLED ON ALL VEHICLES CONTAINING FAULTY WIN MODULES. DODGE WILL BE CHARGING ME APPROXIMATELY $850.00 TO REPLACE. THE WIN MODULE IS A DEVICE THAT SENDS ELECTRONIC SIGNAL TO THE ENGINE TO LET CAR KNOW APPROPRIATE KEY IS BEING USED (SECURITY DEVICE), NOT A WEARABLE PART. I OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE MANUAL SLIDING DOOR AND THEN THE HORN STARTED TO BLOW CONSTANTLY, THE FRONT AND REAR WINDSHIELD WIPERS TURNED ON, THE HAZARD LIGHTS FLASHED, THE REVERSE LIGHTS WERE ON, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD MANY WARNING LIGHTS ON INCLUDING A RED DOT ON THE BOTTOM. I TRIED TO HIT MY CAR ALARM BUTTON TO SEE IF IT WOULD MAKE IT STOP AND IT DIDN'T. I CLOSED THE DOOR AS MY SON RAN INTO THE HOUSE AND THEN ALL THE DOORS LOCKED. I HAD TO USE THE VALET KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR. I THEN PULLED THE HOOD RELEASE AND OPENED THE HOOD. THE RADIATOR FAN WAS ALSO ON. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY SO THE HORN WOULD STOP BLOWING. I WAITED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND WENT BACK OUTSIDE AND RECONNECTED THE BATTERY AND IT DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. THIS TIME I TRIED STARTING THE CAR AND IT STARTED HOWEVER IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PUT IT INTO GEAR. I TRIED TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT LET ME. I GOT OUT AND THEN I REMOVED THE FUSES TO THE HORN SO THE NOISE WOULD NOT DISTURB ME OR THE NEIGHBORS. A FEW MINUTES LATER I GOT BACK INTO THE CAR AND IT LET ME PUT IT IN REVERSE SO I PULLED THE VAN OUT OF OUR GARAGE AND INTO THE DRIVEWAY BUT THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. I TRIED AGAIN TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT IT WOULD NOT STOP. I EVEN MOVED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND REMOVED THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY AGAIN BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AS DID THE WIPERS AND HAZARD LIGHTS. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE ENGINE FINALLY SHUT OFF. THE AIR CONDITIONING BROKE. AFTER SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE MECHANIC WHICH INCLUDED SEVERAL FILLINGS OF A/C REFRIGERANT (WHICH ALL LEAKED OUT IN THE ENVIRONMENT), DYE, AND HOURS OF LABOR, HE WAS STILL UNABLE TO FIND THE LEAK. AFTER GOING TO A DIFFERENT A/C SPECIALIST, THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND THE LEAK IN THE DISCHARGE HOSE. THE MECHANIC STATED THIS WAS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL, AS THIS HOSE DESIGN WAS FAULTY. MORE SPECIFICALLY, IT IS TOO SHORT. THE NEW DISCHARGE HOSE (PART# 4677577AC) CAME DIRECTLY FROM THE DEALER AND IS LONGER THAN THE ORIGINAL HOSE. THIS SAYS TO ME THAT DODGE ADMITS THE OLD PART WAS FAULTY, AS THEY ARE REPLACING IT WITH A LONGER HOSE THAN WAS INITIALLY PUT IN THE VEHICLE. AFTER ALL WAS SAID AND DONE, THE COST WAS NEARLY $600 TO FIX THIS ISSUE, NOT TO MENTION DAMAGE DONE TO THE ENVIRONMENT, WHICH ALL COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY REPLACING A SIMPLE HOSE. *TR

I RECIVED RECALL R03/NHTSA 14V-373 AND L25 / NHTSA 14V-373 AND CONTACTED KINGS CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE (DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE) IN FEBRUARY 2015 AND THEY ARE REPORTING THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE A REPLACEMENT PART AS OF JULY 16, 2015. THEY TOLD ME I AM ONE OF 200 AND OFFERED NO TIMEFRAME FOR THE REPAIR. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I AM AFRAID IT WILL FAIL AND RESULT IN A CATASTROPHIC WRECK WHERE OTHERS, MY PASSENGERS OR I MAY BE KILLED!
