THE CAR WAS PARKED STATIONARY AT THE TOP OF A HILL. IT STARTED TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL WHILE IT WAS OFF. THREE CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR. THEIR BROTHER TRIED TO STOP THE CAR, AND GOT CAUGHT UNDER THE CAR WHEEL, AND DIED. THE CAR WAS IN PARK. ..UPDATED 10/11/17 *BF *TR
THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY AS YOU ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND MOST RECENTLY HAPPENED WHILE MY WIFE WAS GOING 40 MPH DOWN THE ROAD. IT SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED HARD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE SECOND GEAR FAILING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37000.
WHEN WE WERE GOING 50 MPH THE ACCELERATOR STUCK DOWN TO THE GROUND WOULD NOT STOP AND WE ALMOST CRASHED IN AN INTERSECTION. WE HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN. SOMETHING NEED TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! *TR
WHILE DRIVING TO THE MARKET MY WIFE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN SHUDDER IN THE STEERING/BRAKES PULLING THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVING LANE TOWARDS THE SHOULDER. SHE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OF THE SHOULDER. SHE NOTICED THE ESP/BAS WARNING LIGHT AND THE SLIPPERY ROAD/TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT HAD BOTH ACTIVATED ON THE DASH/INSTRUMENT PANEL. WE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO INFORMED US THE STEERING ANGLE/CLOCKSPRING SENSOR WHICH ACTIVATES THE DRIVERS AIRBAG HAD FAILED AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE ITEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND REPAIR WOULD COST A TOTAL OF $508. DODGE RECALLED CARAVANS 1996-2000 FOR A SIMILAR ISSUE. WE HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKES, FOR WHAT WAS TERMED PREMATURE WHEREOUT, AT APPROX 22,000 MILES. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE ELECTRONIC KEYS WHICH BOTH CRUMBLED AFTER THE 3RD YEAR. WHAT'S NEXT???? ANY HELP IN THIS SITUATION WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. *TR
MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING BACK HOME FROM A FAMILY TRIP WHEN MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. LUCKILY THERE WAS ENOUGH TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD THAT ONLY ALLOWED US TO TRAVEL AROUND 25 MPH AT THE TIME THE VAN STALLED. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS, PUT THE VAN IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE VAN. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS A COINCIDENCE BUT THE VAN STALLED AS SOON AS MY WIFE UNPLUGGED THE IPHONE FROM THE AUXILIARY PLUG OF THE VAN. *TR
MY VEHICLES WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY COME ON AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH OR GO TO ZERO WHILE OPERATING THE VAN. MY VAN HAS ALSO STALLED WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS HAPPENS ANYWHERE FROM A FEW TIMES A WEEK TO SEVERALS TIMES A DAY. I'VE HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT MY VEHICLE AND A NON -DEALER MECHANIC AND NEITHER CAN FIND A PROBLEM. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT. I AM AFRAID SOMETIMES THAT MY VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE CROSSING A BUSY INTERSECTION AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
WE ARE A USED CAR DEALERSHIP THAT RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 118,000 MILES ON IT. A CUSTOMER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES AND PLACED IN THEIR GARAGE, THE CUSTOMER NOTICED SOME SMOKE/STEAM COMING FROM THE VENTS. THE CUSTOMER ASSUMED IT WAS ASSOCIATED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING AND WENT INTO THE HOUSE ONLY TO RETURN A MOMENT LATER TO CHECK ON THE VAN AND AT THAT TIME NOTICED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CUSTOMER QUICKLY BACKED THE VAN OUT OF THE GARAGE, TURNED IT OFF AND CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. BY THE TIME THE FIRE DEPARTMENT MADE THE BRIEF TRIP TO THE CUSTOMERS' HOUSE, THE VAN WAS COMPLETELY BURNT. THERE IS SOME DAMAGE TO THE SIDING ON THE HOUSE AS WELL. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS INJURED AND THE CUSTOMER WAS ABLE TO GET THE VAN OUT OF THE GARAGE. EVERYTHING IS COMPLETELY BURNT IN THE VAN-EVEN THE GLASS CURLED AND MELTED BECAUSE OF THE HEAT. CHRYSLER HAS BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. *TR
THERE WAS A SMELL OF HOT COOLANT ANYTIME WE WERE DRIVING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS BAD CONNECTION ON THE HEATER HOSE ASSEMBLY AND IT WOULD BE $525 TO FIX. UPON INVESTIGATION IN THE DODGE FORUMS, THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS HAPPENING ON A REGULAR BASIS DUE TO THE HEATER HOSES BEING DIRECTLY ABOVE THE EXHAUST COLLECTOR AND IS CAUSING THE RUBBER TO FAIL AND THUS CAUSING COOLANT LEAKS. BEST CASE IS IT SMELLS WHEN THE COOLANT IS LEAKING ON THE EXHAUST, WORST CASE IS PEOPLE ARE GETTING STRANDED DUE TO OVERHEATING. DODGE CLAIMS THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 60 MPH WHEN THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE ATTEMPTED TO UNLOCK THE VEHICLE WITH A NEW KEY FOB HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT UNLOCK. AFTER THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE STARTED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TAP THE FUSE BOX TO TURN ON THE VEHICLE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS THEN ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY WITH WIPER FLUID GUSHING OUT. THE FAILURE RECURRED FREQUENTLY AS THE HORN SOUNDED INDEPENDENTLY AS WELL. THE CONTACT STOPPED AND TURNED OFF VEHICLE BUT THE FAILURES PERSISTED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TAP ON THE FUSE BOX TO HAVE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS AND HORN STOP. THE FUSE BOX WAS LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE NEAR THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,496.
THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLAMMING INTO GEAR WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE FROM A STOP (BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE). ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DODGE DEALERSHIP, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF METAL SHAVINGS IN THE TRANSMISSION OIL PAN INDICATING THE TRANSMISSION WAS GRINDING ITSELF APART. TWO REPAIR OPTIONS WERE GIVEN - REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION ENTIRELY OR HAVE IT REBUILT AT THE DEALERSHIP. SINCE THERE WAS THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE INTERNALLY, WE OPTED TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED TO ENSURE SAFE AND RELIABLE OPERATION IN THE FUTURE. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50K MILES, HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN ROUGHLY, AND IS NOT USED FOR TOWING OR HAULING HEAVY LOADS. ESSENTIALLY, THERE IS NO REASON THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD HAVE SELF-DESTRUCTED ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
MY 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN HAS INTERMITTENT TROUBLE STARTING. THE STARTER HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE, AND THE WIN MODULE (AND KEY) HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN OCCURRING, BUT NEVER DUPLICATES FOR THE DEALERSHIP. THEIR COMPUTER SCAN BRINGS UP NO ISSUES. THE BATTERY HAS BEEN TESTED AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION. IT DOESN'T MATTER THE TIME OF DAY, OR DRIVING CIRCUMSTANCES, THE VAN WILL NOT ALWAYS START. IT WILL HAVE ONE CLICK (AND I CAN CLOSE THE WINDOWS, TURN ON RADIO) BUT THE VAN WILL NOT START. *TR
WENT TO TURN MY LIGHTS ON AND THEY TURNED ON THEN OFF THEN ON AGAIN AND THEN OFF. AND NOW THEY WILL NOT TURN ON. EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS, PARKING LIGHTS, DIMMER ETC. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC RUN AND IT SHOWED THE FOLLOWING TROUBLE CODES: B162F,B,C ; B1633, B1634, B1637. WHICH ALL POINTS TO THE TIPM CONTROL MODULE. SO I CALLED THE SHOP, THEY CALLED TO FIND THE PART AND THERE IS NONE AVAILABLE. THERE ARE ON BACKORDER, ABOUT 800 OF THEM TO BE EXACT. SO THAT MEANS THAT I HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS UNTIL 800 OTHER PEOPLE GET THERES. NEXT THING TO GO IS THE WIPERS, HORN AND THEN THE CAR TO SHUT OFF AS I'M DRIVING. OBVIOUSLY IF 800 OF THESE ARE ON BACK ORDER THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THEM. *TR
THERE IS A HEATER HOSE ASSEMBLY LEADING FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE TO THE HEATER CORES IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. A HOSE COMES OUT OF THE ENGINE AND INTO A Y-COUPLING, WHERE IT SPLITS INTO TWO HOSES. ONE HOSE LEADS INTO THE FIREWALL AND THE FRONT HEATER CORE. THE SECOND GOES UNDER THE VEHICLE TO THE BACK HEATER CORE. A COOLANT LEAK DEVELOPED IN THE Y-COUPLING, LEAKING COOLANT ONTO THE EXHAUST. AFTER LEAKING FOR SOME TIME, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON TO INDICATE LOW COOLANT. AFTER SHUTTING VEHICLE OFF THE HEADLIGHTS, INTERIOR LIGHTS, OR PARKING LIGHTS WILL STAY ON INDEFINITELY, RESULTING IN DRAINING THE BATTERY TO ZERO. THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FOR TEN MINUTES. DEALER COULD NOT DIAGNOSE PROBLEM. *TR
PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE 6/30/2012 1ST INCIDENT 8/2012 DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AT NIGHT IN WOODED AREA SO IT WAS PITCH BLACK AND HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF, WIPERS RUNNING AND SPRAYING FLUID, HORN STARTED BLARING, OUTSIDE LIGHTS WENT CRAZY, GAUGES WENT NUTS, AND POWER STEERING WENT OUT. PULLED OVER WHEN WE WERE ABLE (TWO LANE ROAD W/NO SHOULDERS) AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND RAN JUST FINE. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN 10/2012 BASICALLY SAME THING WAS RETURNING FROM SON'S FOOTBALL GAME ON A FRIDAY NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT AND HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT, WIPERS GOING CRAZY, AND HORN BLARING, LIGHTS GOING OFF. DIDN'T DO IT AGAIN FOR AWHILE THEN SINCE 3/2013 ABOUT EVERY 2 TO 3 WEEKS WE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE, VAN CAN BE SITTING IN DRIVE AND STILL DOES IT. I HAVE HAD MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED AND IT SCARES US ALL TO DEATH. WE HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND ON MORE THAN ONE OF THESE OCCASIONS WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE MAKING A TURN, (IT SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN TO MANUALLY TURN IT) WHICH I COULD BARELY DO, AND ALMOST RECEIVED A TICKET FOR FAULTY EQUIPMENT DUE TO THE BRAKE AND REVERSE LIGHTS GOING OFF ON THEIR OWN (COP GAVE ME A WARNING THIS TIME) AFTER LOOKING UP THE ISSUE AND TALKING TO A MECHANIC IT IS A FAULTY TIPM (TOTALLY INTEGRATED POWER MODULE), WHICH BY THE WAY HAS BEEN ON "BACKORDER" FOR MORE THAN 18 MONTHS CAUSE I'VE BEEN CALLING ON IT SINCE 10/2012. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND APPARENTLY THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE, THERE ARE OVER 200 OF THE 420 COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE AND THOUSANDS MORE ONLINE, YET THERE HAS NOT EVEN BEEN AN INVESTIGATION? I GUESS THE NHTSA IS NOT AS CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AS THEY CLAIM TO BE! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL DONE FOR THIS MODEL AND THE YEARS AFFECTED FOR THE FAULTY PART THAT'S GOING TO END UP WITH SOMEONE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DEAD! *TR
THE HEADLAMPS ON MY VAN TURN THEMSELVES OFF AT RANDOM TIMES. THEY WILL TURN OFF WHILE THE VAN IS GOING DOWN THE STREET, PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, ANYWHERE. SOMETIMES THEY DON'T TURN ON AT ALL, INSTEAD THEY JUST FLASH SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN STAY OFF. *TR
ONE DAY AFTER INITIAL INCIDENT..... START CAR IN PARKING LOT, START BACKING UP. THE CAR STOPS, EVERYONE IS JERKED FORWARD, AND THE HORN STARTS BLARING/WIPERS GO CRAZY, FLUID SPEWING EVERYWHERE. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT I HAD HIT SOMEONE... BUT NOPE. PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE- NO POWER STEERING- AND PULLED BACK INTO PARKING SPACE. TRIED TO TURN CAR OFF. IT CONTINUED TO RUN WITH KEY OUT OF IGNITION. AFTER 15 MINUTES OF IT GOING CRAZY SOME PEOPLE CAME OVER AND HELPED US DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. AFTER ABOUT A MINUTE IT FINALLY DIED. I MET A COUPLE IN THE PARKING LOT THAT ASKED IF IT WAS A 2008. IT WAS, AND THEY TOLD ME ABOUT THEIR HORROR STORY WITH THEIR VAN. AND HOW THEY HAD A LAWYER THAT FILED LEMON LAW ON IT. I WAS THRILLED. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES WE CONNECTED THE BATTERY AND THE VAN CONTINUED TO GO CRAZY. FINALLY WE DECIDED TO JUST DRIVE HOME. IT WAS 9:30 AT NIGHT. DROVE HOME WITH HORN BLARING, WIPERS GOING CRAZY, NO TRANSMISSION SHIFTING AND FLUID SPEWING. JUST WAITING FOR THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT AND HAVE VERY LITTLE CONTROL OF VEHICLE. GOT HOME AND VAN CONTINUED GOING CRAZY UNTIL HUBBY DISCONNECTED BATTERY AGAIN. LOOKED ONLINE AND FIND OUT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH 2008 DODGE/CHRYSLER VANS. THE TIPM GOES BAD AND THE CAR GOES CRAZY. THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE SOMEONE TO GET INTO A SERIOUS WRECK AND KILL SOMEONE. VERY UNSAFE!! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL, BUT DODGE IS HAVING PROBLEMS GETTING THE PART.... RIDICULOUS! THE DEALERSHIP I TOOK IT TO TOLD ME THEY HAD 2 2008 VANS IN THE "BACK" WAITING FOR THIS PART. THEY HAVE BEEN SITTING THERE FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AND NOONE KNOWS WHEN THEY WILL GET THE PART. SO WHAT HAPPENS? THE PEOPLE TRADE THEM IN. CONVENIENT. MAYBE THAT'S WHY THESE ARE THE MOST "POPULAR" VAN ON THE ROAD? MAKING SURE THEY GET REPEAT BUSINESS. WELL I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER DODGE/CHRYSLER AGAIN AND IM DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO GET BULLIED INTO BEING A REPEAT BUYER!! *TR
I BOUGHT A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN XLT ON FEBRUARY 3 OF 2012 FROM A LOCAL DEALER IN MILWAUKEE, WI. ON THAT TIME THE MILEAGE OF THE CAR WAS APPROXIMATELY 60000 MILES. TWO MONTHS AFTER I HAVE THE CAR WE SAW THE OIL CHANGE LIGHT COMING OUT ON THE SCREEN WHICH WAS UNUSUAL FOR US WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY FIXED THE LIGHT. TWO MONTHS AFTER I SAW THE ENGINE LIGHT ON THE SCREEN, WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEEP THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS WHILE THEY MADE A REPAIR THAT COST ME $850.0, I MADE THIS PAYMENT BECAUSE I TRUST THEM WHEN THEY TOLD ME THAT WAS GOING TO BE THE ONLY REPAIR. WEEKS AFTER I WAS ON THE HIGH WAY WITH MY WHOLE FAMILY AND I SAY SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND WE PERCEIVED A STRONG BURN SMELL, THE MILEAGE ON THAT TIME WAS APPROXIMATELY 67,000, WE JUST MADE IT TO ARRIVE TO THE DEALER SERVICE AND THEY FOUND A VERY LOW COOLANT LEVEL WHICH MEANS THAT THE OVERHEATING WAS RELATED TO THE COOLANT LINE. NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SERVICE, THE CAR WAS THERE FOR 7 DAYS AFTER I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR NEEDS AN ENGINE CHANGE WHICH I CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER BUT ALL I RECEIVED FROM THEM WERE 8 OIL CHANGES. I RECEIVED AND OFFER TO HAVE ANOTHER CAR BUT THE TRADE VALUE FOR MY CAR IS VERY LOW COMPARED TO THE ORIGINAL PRICE I PAID AND THE NEW MONTHLY PAYMENT IS OUT OF MY POSSIBILITIES. I'M DRIVING THIS CAR TAKING THE RISK FOR MY FAMILY WITH THE WINTER COMING. AFTER READING THE COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT I'M NOT THE FIRST OWNER OF A 2008 GRAND CARAVAN WITH A POTENTIAL PROBLEM OF OVERHEATING AND FIRE ON MY CAR. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE REAR A/C BLOWS HOT AIR WHILE IT IS SET ON THE A/C POSITION. AT THAT TIME MY KIDS; 2 YEARS OLD, 5 YEARS OLD WHERE APPARENTLY SWEATING AND DID NOT KNOW IT WAS NOT NORMAL WHILE THE 12 YEARS OLD KEPT REPEATEDLY SAYING IT IS WARM HERE AT THE BACK. I INSPECTED WHY IT IS WARM AND NOTICED THAT THE REAR AC BLOWS WARM AIR ON A/C POSITION WHILE THE FRONT A/C IS BLOWING COLD AIR. FIRST, I THOUGHT IT IS THE REAR A/C BLEND DOOR BUT IT IS THE "EXPANSION VALVE" IT HAS VISIBLE CORROSION AND IT IS LOCATED UNDER THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL FENDER WHERE IT IS SUBJECTED TO DIRT, SALT AND ROAD DEBRIS...I THINK DODGE/CHRYSLER NEEDS TO FIX THESE DESIGN ISSUE SINCE THIS COULD BE A FATAL ISSUE IF I DID NOT KNOW IT AND THE OLDER KID NEVER COMPLAINT ABOUT IT. SINCE THEN, I HAVE ONLY USED THE FRONT AC AND CHRYSLER CHARGE A FORTUNE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF YOU ARE TRAVELING ON A LONG DRIVE. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THE VAN SUDDENLY ENTERED INTO AN ELECTRICAL CHAOS. THE HORN STARTED BLARING, THE WIPERS STARTED GOING FULL BLAST, AND WIPER FLUID STARTED SPRAYING. THIS KIND OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED BEFORE BUT THIS TIME WAS THE WORST. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIVE WHILE EVERYTHING ELECTRICAL FLICKERED AND CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION. FINALLY HAD TO STOP AND REMOVE FUSES FOR HORN AND WIPER FLUID IN ORDER TO GET THE MALFUNCTIONS TO STOP. VAN TRANSMISSION ALSO STOPPED SHIFTING DURING THIS EPISODE. EVEN AFTER VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THERE WERE MULTIPLE ELECTRICAL POPPING NOISES THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE AS IF IT WAS TRYING TO POWER UP THINGS THAT WERE NO LONGER OPERATIONAL. I TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALERSHIP AND THEY IDENTIFIED PROBLEM AS A FAILURE OF THE TIPM (TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). LOOKING ONLINE THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND FAILURES. THE TIPM IS ACTUALLY BACKORDERED BECAUSE OF THE DEMAND. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A REPEATED PROBLEM IN THE DODGE AND POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS. *JS
VAN WOULD INTERMITTENTLY NOT START. WOULD TURN KEY AND VAN WOULD CLICK ONCE LIKE SOLENOID WAS ACTIVATING BUT STARTER WOULD NOT TURN ON. TURN KEY A SECOND TIME AND VAN MIGHT START. ON ONE OCCASION, VAN WOULD NOT START ON SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. JUMP STARTING WOULD NOT WORK. BATTERY TESTED OK. REPLACED STARTER, AFTER COUPLE DAYS VAN AGAIN WOULD NOT START. TOOK TO DEALER, DEALER REPLACED STARTER. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS, VAN IS AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY NOT STARTING. WE HAVE DISCOVERED IF SHIFT LEVER IS MOVED INTO NEUTRAL, VAN WILL START. THIS EVENING (9/25/12), MY WIFE WENT TO TURN ON THE HIGH-BEAMS AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS CAME ON AND WOULD NOT CUT OFF. THE LOW-BEAMS REMAINED ON, BUT HIGH-BEAMS AND THE TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT TURN ON. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY FOR TEN MINUTES AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO WORK FINE WHEN I RECONNECTED IT. *TR

(DID NOT USE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE AND CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY) REPAIR WAS MADE AND THE SHOP EVEN POINTED OUT THE FLAW IN THE PART AND THAT IT HAD BE REDESIGNED. FOUND OUT THAT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION NOTIFICATION K04 HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THE A/C DISCHARGE HOSE WHICH IS WHAT WAS REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE. CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND CLAIM FOR REIMBURSEMENT WAS DENIED BECAUSE MY VEHICLE VIN DID NOT QUALIFY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THE CORRECT MODEL YEAR, DURING THE BUILD PERIOD, THE CORRECT ENGINE TYPE IN A COLD WEATHER STATE AND EXACTLY THE PART THAT WAS RECALLED FOR OTHER VANS. APPARENTLY CHRYSLER IS NOT WILLING TO REIMBURSE AND DO THE RIGHT THING FOR A PART THEY KNOW IS BAD SO I WAS TOLD MY ONLY WAY TO GET ANY REIMBURSEMENT MAY BE TO FILE HERE AND IF ENOUGH OTHER PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME ISSUE THAT ANOTHER RECALL MAY GO OUT IN WHICH MY CAR WOULD QUALIFY. *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRELESS MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND AS A RESULT, THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,000.

JUNE 2012, WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE FROM A RESTAURANT FROM DINNER, THE VEHICLE SUFFERED A POWER FAILURE WHICH IMMEDIATELY CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO POWER DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS FORCED TO MAKE A BEST ATTEMPT TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHICH WAS MADE DIFFICULT BY THE FACT THAT THE BRAKES WERE POWERED BY THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS AS WAS THE STEERING. I SUBSEQUENTLY CALLED A MECHANIC WHO CAME AND CHECKED OUT THE MINIVAN BUT, NO WORK WAS PERFORMED BECAUSE WHEN THE MECHANIC ARRIVED, THE CAR STARTED AND DROVE PERFECTLY AND ALL OF THE VOLTAGES FOR THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS TESTED OKAY. A MONTH LATER, AFTER ARRIVING HOME AND PARKING MY CAR, I NOTICED THAT THE COOLING FAN WAS STILL OPERATING ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHUT OFF. I THEN IMMEDIATELY STARTED THE CAR AND DID EVERY CHECK POSSIBLE TO MAKE SURE THAT I HAD NOT LEFT ANYTHING ON. AFTER CHECKING UNDER THE HOOD AND CLOSING THE HOOD ITSELF, THE FAN SHUT OFF ON ITS ON.WITHIN A MATTER OF WEEKS, THIS SAME PROBLEM BEGAN REPEATING ITSELF AND WOULD ONLY STOP ONCE THE BATTERY RAN DOWN. I EVENTUALLY HAD THE FAN RELAY/STARTER REPLACED AFTER A MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT THIS WAS THE ISSUE. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND THAT THE FAN NO LONGER STAYS ON. HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO EITHER SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING WITH NO APPARENT CAUSE AND I AM STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY DRAINING, ALTHOUGH NOTHING APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN LEFT ON. THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS HAVE CONTINUED TO GET WORSE AND INCREASINGLY DANGEROUS AND I HAVE CALLED SEVERAL DODGE DEALERSHIPS TO SPEAK WITH MECHANICS. TO GENERALIZE, A MAJORITY OF THE MECHANICS HAVE DEALT WITH OTHER CONSUMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCE SOME OR ALL OF THE SAME ISSUES AND SUGGEST THAT THE TIPM IS FAULTY AND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE ON CHRYSLER AND DODGE MINIVANS OF THE SAME YEAR AND BEING THAT THIS IS THE CASE THAT THEY EXPECT TO SEE A RECALL ISSUED. *TR
GOING HIGH SPEED, ENGINE SUDDENLY STOPS, ALL LIGHTS ON DASH LIGHT UP, POWER STEERING DOES NOT FUNCTION. THIS HAPPENED (3) TIMES LAST YEAR. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE PA TURNPIKE BUT WAS IN DANGER OF BEING HIT AS I WAS TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART. WAITED 20 MINUTES AND CAR DID INITIALLY RESTART. HOWEVER, WHEN IT RESTARTED, ONCE DRIVEN, IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS--IT WAS STUCK IN 1ST. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) PULLED OVER AGAIN. WAITED 10 MINUTES, STARTED DRIVING, AND CAR FUNCTIONED BUT "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" WAS ON. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER IMMEDIATELY. THEY INITIALLY BLAMED THE FOB, WHICH I REPLACED. WHEN THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN A FEW MONTHS LATER, IT WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO DEALER AND SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX IT. IN JULY OF THIS YEAR, STARTED THIS BEHAVIOR AGAIN BUT NOW WOULD NOT RESTART AFTER THE ENGINE CUT OFF. (AGAIN TRAVELING HIGH SPEED) THEN THE ENGINE CUT OFF A DAY LATER WHILE ONLY GOING 40 MILES AN HOUR. TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY CHANGED THE WIN MODULE. (BUT TELL ME THAT ALL THREE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM ARE REGISTERING ERRORS) I PAID TO REPLACE WIN MODULE, HAD CAR FOR 1 WEEK, WENT TO START IT AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. REPLACED STARTER RELAY. PICKED CAR UP ON A WEDNESDAY AND ON THURSDAY, ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON ME WHILE DOING 20 MPH. AGAIN, WOULD NOT RESTART. CAR CURRENTLY AT DEALERSHIP BUT THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S WRONG. THIS IS A HAZARD!! I FEEL I AM GOING TO DIE IN THIS CAR BECAUSE SOMEONE IS GOING TO RUN INTO ME AT HIGH SPEED WHEN I DON'T HAVE A ENGINE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. MY YOUNG KIDS ARE CONSTANTLY IN THIS CAR. IGNITION BECAME NON-RESPONSIVE AND I HAD TO PULL BATTERY CABLE TO SILENCE EVERYTHING. HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND RECEIVED LECTURE ABOUT NOT PULLING BATTERY CABLE AND WAS CHARGED $90 SO A TECH COULD FIX THIS. THE TIPM MODULE HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

AFTER KEEPING THE VAN FOR SEVERAL DAYS, OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP (BLUEBONNET MOTORS) IN NEW BRAUNFELS, TX, DETERMINED THAT THE BATTERY IS FINE, BUT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE TIPM. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO UNITS AVAILABLE FOR REPLACEMENT AT THIS TIME (SEVERAL HUNDRED ARE ON BACKORDER, AND NONE SCHEDULED FOR PRODUCTION). CHRYSLER HAS NOT OFFERED TO COVER THIS UNDER RECALL, AND WE ARE TOLD IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET WE READ MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE TIPM PROBLEMS, INCLUDING: WIPERS STARTING BY THEMSELVES; WINDSHIELD SPRAYERS SPRAYING WITHOUT WARNING; HORN WILL START HONKING OUT OF CONTROL: LIGHTS FLASHING UNCONTROLLABLY (ALL OF THESE WHILE DRIVING); AND EVEN ONE UNIT THAT CAUGHT FIRE. INITIAL SYMPTOMS OF VEHICLE INVOLVED THE HORN CHIRPING WHENEVER THE CAR WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK AS WELL AS THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS GOING OFF RANDOMLY ALONG WITH WASHER FLUID SPRAYING. SYMPTOMS BECAME WORSE, THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR RANDOMLY WOULD OPEN ON ITS OWN AND THE HORN WOULD CHIRP CONSTANTLY WHEN CAR IN REVERSE. THE PARKING LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS ALSO WOULD STAY ON AND FLICKER AFTER KEY REMOVED AND LIGHT SWITCH OFF ON DASH. WHILE TAKING VAN TO DODGE DEALERSHIP IN BELOIT, WI THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, DASH LIGHTS BEGAN TO FLASH RANDOMLY AND TRANSMISSION WENT INTO LIMP MODE ONLY ALLOWING ME TO TRAVEL AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 20 MPH. I WAS ADVISED THAT I HAD A FAULTY TIPM (TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE). I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND BOTH BRYDEN DEALERSHIP/DODGE CORPORATION ARE UNABLE TO PROVIDE A DATE WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I HAVE CONTACTED DODGE DIRECTLY AND WAS ABLE TO GET A RENTAL CAR AT DODGE'S EXPENSE EVEN THOUGH VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. THEY OBVIOUSLY ARE AWARE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM SINCE I WAS ADVISED BY A THIRD PARTY PARTS SUPPLIER THAT OVER 600 OF THESE ARE ON BACK ORDER WITH NO ETA ON PART AVAILABILITY. THE WORST PART OF THIS IS NOT KNOWING WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE AND THAT SO MANY PEOPLE ARE BEING AFFECTED I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PART CAN BE SO SCARCE WHEN THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR VANS ON THE ROAD TODAY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR LOSES COMPLETE POWER--STEERING, BRAKES. ELECTRONIC STABILITY/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. VERY SCARY/DANGEROUS SITUATION. I AM USUALLY ABLE WRESTLE IT TO SIDE OF ROAD WITHOUT ANY POWER STEERING OR POWER BRAKES. AFTER GETTING THE VAN TO A STOP AND SHUTTING OFF THE IGNITION, THE VAN WILL FIRE RIGHT UP AND NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FOR A FEW DAYS. THEN IT HAPPENS AGAIN. WIPERS/DASH CLUSTER/WARNING BELLS OPERATE ON THEIR OWN RANDOMLY. I FOUND THAT I COULD TURN OFF THE A/C BLOWER AND WIPERS/DASH LIGHTS/ AND WARNING BELLS WOULD GO OFF. STARTED OUT ONCE OR TWICE, THEN EVERY WENT UP TO 13 TIMES BACK TO BACK. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WAS WAITING ON RECALL PART FOR A/C AND WAS TOLD IT SHOULD FIX IT.(WENT ONE WEEK WITHOUT ANYTHING AND THEN WENT TO MY VAN ON 5/11/12 AND HAD NO GAGS). SOMETIMES OCCURS WHEN VEHICLE IS AT A STOP SIGN, MAKING A RIGHT TURN, OR DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. LASTS FROM TWO MINUTES TO TEN MINUTES. RESEARCH SHOWS MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH SAME ISSUES REQUIRING TOTAL INTEGRATED POWER MODULE (TIPM) (CURRENTLY ON FACTORY BACK ORDER WITH NO RELEASE DATE AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO LOCAL DEALER) I WAS TOLD 5/11/2012 THAT 390 CUSTOMERS ARE WAITING ON THE TIPM, AND BE PREPARED TO WAIT SEVERAL MONTHS AS IT IS ON BACK ORDER. SO I CALLED CHRYSLER, I WAS THEN TOLD THE MACHINE THAT MAKES THIS IS BROKEN, THEY ASSIGNED ME TO A CASE MANAGER WHO WOULD HELP WITH RENTAL CAR ASSISTANCE. LATER TOLD BY CASE MANAGER "BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE SERVICE HISTORY WITH DODGE DEALER, LOCALLY THAT I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RENTAL CAR ASSISTANCE." I AM SORRY WE ARE MILITARY AND HAVE RECENTLY MOVED ACROSS COUNTRY. 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AND REAR DOORS POWER UNLOCK PROBLEM. I HAVE A 2008 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN STX. IT HAS POWER WINDOWS AND LOCKS AND POWER SLIDING DOORS. 3.8L ENGINE. THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR LOCK, RIGHT PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR LOCK WILL LOCK WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED, BUT WILL NOT UNLOCK WHEN THE BUTTON IS PRESSED. THIS HAPPENS NO MATTER WHICH DOOR UNLOCK BUTTON YOU PRESS (DRIVER, PASSENGER OR KEY FOB). I HAVE TRACED THE WIRING NO POWER WHEN 'UNLOCK' IS PRESSED, BUT THERE IS POWER WHEN THE 'LOCK' BUTTON IS PRESSED. ALSO, I TESTED THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR, AGAIN SAME RESULT. I TOOK OFF THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR PANEL AND UNPLUGGED THE DOOR LOCK CONNECTOR AT THE SOLENOID AND TESTED IT. AGAIN, NO POWER WHEN 'UNLOCK' IS PRESSED ON ANY OF THE WIRES. THE BLACK WIRE ON THE CONNECTOR IS GETTING GOOD GROUND. I TRACED THE WIRES FROM THE LOCK SOLENOID CONNECTOR UNDER THE SEATS AND TO THE DRIVERS KICK PANEL WHERE THEY GO THROUGH A GROMMET AND INTO THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD. I PROBED THE WIRES AGAIN BY THE KICK PANEL AND GOT NO POWER WHEN 'UNLOCK' WAS PRESSED. I HEAR A RELAY CLICKING IN THE FUSE BOX WHEN I PRESS 'UNLOCK', BUT I CAN'T FIND IT. IT IS COMING FROM WITHIN THE FUSE BOX UNDER ALL THE FUSES AND RELAYS. THOSE RELAYS ARE LOCATED IN THE FUSE BOXES INNER PART, AND PROBABLY LOW QUALITY, SO THEY ARE GONE IN JUST FEW YEARS OF USAGE. UNFORTUNATELY, RELAYS CAN'T BE REPLACED BY OWNERS DUE TO LOCATION AND CONNECTIONS. *TR
VAN HAS IGNITION PROBLEM THAT CAUSES LIGHTS AND ENGINE NOT TO START. HAD MANY ISSUES WITH IGNITION WITH REPAIRS HAD RE KEY AND TURN OFF THE ALARM. NO LUCK SPENT OVER 4000.00. PROBLEM STILL EXIST. PLEASE HELP. *TR

DASHBOARD LIGHT INDICATING LOW TIRE PRESSURE CAME ON. WHEN I STOPPED AT SERVICE STATION TO CHECK AND FILL TIRES, I HAD DIFFICULTY REMOVING VALVE CAPS FROM ALL 4 STEMS DUE TO POOR QUALITY OF THE STEMS/CORROSION. WHEN I WENT TO INFLATE FRONT, PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, IT PRACTICALLY CRUMBLED IN MY HANDS! I HAD TO HAVE THE CHEAPLY CONSTRUCTED ALUMINUM VALVE STEM REPLACED, COSTING ME $130! I WANTED TO REPLACE IT WITH A QUALITY, STANDARD, METAL VALVE, BUT WAS TOLD THIS WAS NOT AN OPTION, LEGALLY. ANOTHER CUSTOMER IN THE SERVICE STATION WAITING ROOM TOLD ME HE'D HAD ALL FOUR OF HIS TIRES BLOW, ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING, DUE TO THESE CRAPPY VALVES! HE RECOMMENDED I HAVE ALL 4 REPLACED AS OPPOSED TO JUST THE BROKEN ONE, FOR MY OWN SAFETY AND THAT OF MY FAMILY. I WOULD, IF THE LESS EXPENSIVE METAL VALVE STEMS WERE AN OPTION!
