ON JANUARY 7, 2017, I TRIED TO START MY 2010 CARAVAN. IT WOULDN'T START. THE LIGHT WAS ON FOR THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL, AS WAS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED SINCE MID-DECEMBER. THE OTHER TWO TIMES AFTER WAITING FOR UP TO A WEEK, IT HAS STARTED. AFTER CHECKING AROUND, I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING QUITE A BIT TO OTHERS AS WELL. APPARENTLY, DEALERSHIPS HAVE NO CLUE EITHER, AS TO WHAT IS CAUSING THIS ISSUE. IT COULD BE THE THROTTLE CONTROL, IT COULD BE THE MAIN ELECTRICAL MODULE, NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW FOR SURE. I'M PRETTY MUCH STUCK, AS I DON'T WANT TO BE OUT ON THE ROAD AND HAVE MY VAN STOP, CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.
I HAD TURNED ONTO A HIGHWAY AND WAS ACCELERATING AND WHEN I GOT UP TO SPEED, 65 MPH, I LET OFF THE GAS BUT THE VAN KEPT ACCELERATING. I HIT THE BRAKES AND IT KEPT TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHILE I WAS HITTING THE BRAKES. I CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NOTHING. I WAS TRYING NOT TO HIT OTHER CARS AND SLOW DOWN SO I COULD PULL OVER. I DIDN'T THINK TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL BUT STOMPED ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH THE REGULAR BRAKES AND IT FINALLY SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH I COULD PULL OVER BUT IT STILL KEPT TRYING TO ACCELERATE. WHEN I GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT WAS STILL KIND OF LURCHING FORWARD TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHILE I WAS STILL STANDING ON THE BRAKES. I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND IT FINALLY STOPPED. THROUGH THIS WHOLE ORDEAL IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE WAS PRESSING ON THE GAS AT THE SAME TIME THAT I WAS HITTING THE BRAKES AND IT DIDN'T STOP UNTIL I TURNED THE VAN OFF.
1 PUSH CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON 6-12 TIMES TO GET IT ON.WHEN CAR ON HIGHWAY 2 AUTO DOOR SENIOR IS HITTING RUBBER RAIL GUIDE AN STOPS DOOR FROM SHUTTING . SOMETIMES DRIVER SIDE SIDE DOOR HANGS UP WON'T OPEN MOST TIME WHEN ITS COLD OUT. HAPPENS IN PARKING LOT . BEEN GOING OFF AND ON SINCE 06 23 2016
AFTER JIM RIEHL'S FRIENDLY CHRYSLER IN WARREN MICHIGAN REPLACED MY TIPM MODULE FOR A FAULTY LIGHT PROBLEM MY VAN WOULD NOT DECELERATE WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL.THANK GOD IT SLOWED DOWN WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THERE ARE OTHER FAULT LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND I AM GOING BACK TO THE DEALER TO SEEK A RESOLUTION. IT WAS 3AM AND RAINING TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING RELEASING A DEFECTIVE VAN BACK ON THE ROADS?

MY PARENTS BOUGHT A 2010 DODGE CARAVAN NEW, AND WE WERE ON A FAMILY ROAD TRIP IN CALIFORNIA THIS MONTH. MILEAGE WAS ONLY AT 3500 (M/L) WHEN WE LEFT WASHINGTON. IT HAD JUST BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE WE LEFT. USED CRUISE CONTROL ON I-5 SOUTH THROUGH WASHINGTON, OREGON, AND CALIFORNIA. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS FUSSY AND INCONSISTENT, BUT FUNCTIONAL MORE OR LESS. AFTER ARRIVING AT FAMILY MEMBER'S HOUSE IN CA., NEVER USED CRUISE CONTROL WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE OF WINDY ROADS. ON TUESDAY, JUNE 17TH, 2014 (DURING OUR TRIP) , I WAS HEADING EAST ON HWY. 12, WEST OF LODI, CA. THERE WAS A LONG MERGE LANE, AND I WAS ACCELERATING IN TO TRAFFIC. I WAS NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL. AS I PULLED ON TO THE HIGHWAY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT OUT FROM UNDER MY FOOT AND STUCK TO THE FLOOR. I PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE, AND THE ENGINE WAS ROARING, RED-LINED. I REMEMBERED HEARING ON THE NEWS TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, WHICH I DID. THE BRAKES WORKED, AND I PULLED OVER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. THE MOTOR WAS STILL REVVING, SO I THEN TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF CONVERSATION WITH FAMILY (AND PRAYERS OF THANKS!!!), WE CONTINUED ON OUR WAY. ON THURSDAY, JUNE 19TH, I TOOK THE VAN TO A DODGE DEALER IN FOLSOM, CA. TO HAVE THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. MILEAGE WAS AT 4308 IN FOLSOM, SO VEHICLE WAS BASICALLY NEW, BUT OFF WARRANTY. THE ONLY THING THEY FOUND WAS A TRANSMISSION CODE FOR OVERHEATING 6 STARTS AGO. THEY SAID EVERYTHING CHECKED OUT FINE. I HAVE CHECKED A FEW WEBSITES, AND WE ARE NOT THE FIRST PEOPLE TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACCELERATOR PROBLEM. I AM SO THANKFUL THAT MY 80 YEAR OLD MOM WAS NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED, OR THERE COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC RESULTS. I REALLY HOPE CHRYSLER TAKES THIS SERIOUSLY AND FINDS A SOLUTION FOR THIS, BEFORE PEOPLE DIE FROM THIS KIND OF INCIDENT.SCARY. *TR

THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL AND ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,700.

THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,731.

THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE AFTERMARKET FLOOR MATS CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 51,500. WHEN SPEED CONTROL IS ON AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 45-65 MPH, WHEN GOING DOWNHILL, THE TRANSMISSION WILL DOWNSHIFT EXTREMELY HARD CAUSING HIGH RPMS 5500+. ATTEMPTED TO DISENGAGE MANUALLY AND BY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE BUT CONDITION CONTINUED FOR 45 SECS. PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED REENGAGING D AT APPROX 10 MPH. OCCURRED A 2ND TIME AT 65 MPH GOING DOWNHILL 300 MILES LATER THAT SAME DAY. NO WARNING LIGHTS WERE ACTIVATED DURING BOTH EVENTS. THIS SUDDEN DOWNSHIFTING CAUSING MOMENTARY LOSS OF CONTROL AND LOSS OF SPEED. IN MY OPINION IS A SAFETY CONCERN. ESPECIALLY WOULD BE A CONCERN WHEN OPERATING ON ADVERSE ROAD CONDITIONS. ME CHRYSLER DEALER ADVISED NOT USE USE SPEED CONTROL. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NEXT DAY. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON NEXT DAY. WILL BE GOING TO A CT DEALERSHIP ON FRIDAY FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. *TT

2010 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH CRUISE CONTROL/TRANSMISSION *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM HE ENCOUNTERED OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED. WE HE APPROACHED THE TOP OF A HILL, THE CRUISE CONTROL REDUCED SPEED, BUT INSTEAD OF COASTING DOWN HILL, THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO DOWNSHIFT TO LOW GEAR. THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE WITH EITHER THE BRAKE OR THE CANCEL BUTTON. THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT DISENGAGE UNTIL THE SPEED WAS LESS THAN 15 MPH. *JB
