I was driving and I smelled smoke, saw smoke coming from my center console. I turned and looked the backside of my center console was on fire.
Abs system has moisture in there was a recall on. Couse the abs system to fail and is not working. I was driving in snow condition when it went fail the first time and almost lost control when applying the brakes. The problem has been reproduced and the car is at an independent repair shop. The abs trackion control light and check engine light where turned on.
My 2017 dodge journey needs to have the catalytic converter replaced. I drive my family to and from school and work on a daily basis and my families lives are at risk should this fail. The same issue is under a recall for the previous year 2016, and I am well aware of the VIN process, and how they can be “updated”, which means the parts are 2016 parts but then the vehicle was “re-vin” to reflect an updated year when the vehicle sits on the lot for more than the year it was manufactured. So then the vin is “updated”. By law this can be done up to two years from the actual manufactured date meaning a 2017 could have 2015 parts! Then my vehicle would be included in that 2016 recall for the catalytic converter as would the rest of these people who have been complaining about the same issue. Please include the 2017 in with the 2016 recall on the dodge journey for the replacement of the catalytic converter. Thank you!
The ETC warning light came on, then the car slowed down then stalled out and would not crank back up. Upon running a diagnostic, the following error codes displayed; P0420, P0340, P0197, P0117, P1D83, P2181(several codes showing up more than once showing permanent, pending). This also happened before but was taken to the dealership to be repaired but the problem is back again but worse. Me and my family were on the highway at the time of this happening and when this happened previously, I begged Carvana to take this car back as it not safe and it has happened again.
Passenger side headrest deployed by itself. Unable to put headrest back.
While driving at any speed the vehicle will start jerking and RPM's will rev way up and heat Guage will fluctuate like the car is going to over heat but immediately drops back down to normal, when I let off the gas the vehicle starts to slow down very quickly like if I was pushing the break pedal.
The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the oil warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to her residence the next day. The vehicle was then towed to a collision shop where the mechanic retrieved several fault codes. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was towed back to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the front passenger’s side headrest had deployed independently. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
The headlights have condensation inside them. I had them replaced in December of 2019 as were under warranty at the time. Two and a half years later, I noticed I’m having the same issue as before. There is condensation inside the headlights. The dealer told me I needed to contact their corporate office to see what can be done. I called Dodge Corporate office and was told they weren’t going to cover the replacement cost because the warranty expired. This is a safety issue and it appears Dodge won’t stand behind their product.
Vehicle transmission went out/ stopped working.
The contact's sister-in-law owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated she smelled an abnormal gasoline odor inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and became aware of gasoline bubbling up from the fuel line. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed and determined that the fuel line needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The mechanic researched and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V814000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,300.
Drivers side seatbelt unbuckles while driving without being touched, I’ve had my car for 5 years, and have been having this issue for a year now
I have been getting airbag alert on dashboard since car was purchased in 2017…would go away and come back on here and there. The headrest in passenger side deployed while driving!!! Ridiculous!
My headrest (AHR) Deployed while I was at a stop light. I was not rear-ended. For that to happen. I checked online, to recalls have been made in regards to it. I took it to a dodge service center, they took pictures. On the first day. Then today I had to bring it back in, so they could inspect it. They also took more photos and let me know that it had failed and a pin was broken. A small black sharp piece was on my seat. Which I believe is what failed. I'm truly lucky I was not in motion when it happened. Something like this could cause someone to wreck or seriously injure someone. I did go to the er after it happen and they said a tbi(traumatic brain injury) and a sprain of my neck.
The passenger head rest deployed without being in an accident. Hitting me in the back of the head while riding down the road.
I took my car in for an engine knocking noise and was told that my motor needs to be replace. I was told that they have recalled all the other motors that were made during this time period but mine is not part of the recall. They have attempted it is a known issue with the cylinder that were put in the 2.4 L motors but will not help me in fixing the issue because they don't have my motor on recall. My is the E5 and the motors that they have recalled are the E4 and E6 motors that were put into the Jeeps and the Chrysler but they have not recalled the Dodges motors. Consumer have found out that these motors in fact have two recalls on them. The recall number is W80 and W84. They have found that the cylinder O-rings are bad, and this is confirmed with the with the notice that was sent with NHTSA ID # 10138863 with the manufacture communication number 9003357. Dodge is still refusing to fix the issue and replace the motor.
The headrest safety system deployed while parked overnight. It is only supposed to activate during a crash.
The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electrical system warning message was displayed and the vehicle inadvertently decelerated. The failure nearly caused a collision. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal five times for seven seconds to reset the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who performed an oil change but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 MPH, she heard a clicking sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from underneath the passenger’s side hood. The contact stated that she did not notice any warning lights being illuminated. The power steering and brakes were still functioning as needed which allowed her to pull the vehicle safely to the side shoulder. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
Windshield has begin to crack unexpectedly.
Light has been illuminating every few days, it will ding when it comes on then stay lit for several days. Not sure if the wiring under my passenger seat is loose or whats going on.

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact discovered that the driver’s side second-row and the passenger’s side second-row seat belts intermittently failed to release when the release button was depressed. The contact stated that for the vehicle to return to normal operation, the contact had to avoid sitting in the seats for several hours or a day, and eventually, the vehicle would return to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer stated that the cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.
Both front seat headrests have "deployed" or popped open on their own for no reason.
The drivers side headrest popped open while I was sitting in the parking lot and adjusting my seat before I drove off. The metal pin is missing and the plastic part that was holding it is broken. No accident, just opened on its own. That would have been bad if it hit me while I was driving down the street.
I was driving and all of a sudden the passenger headrest popped open hitting my son in the head.
The battery and alternator were replaced and ever since have had issues with the electrical issues. Check engine light randomly comes on, voltage lightning bolt will appear and car will not turn over, battery light has come on while driving. I have been stuck at the store and car has no power. Lights will go off and it will appear to be functioning fine.
It shows a recall 18V-332 U49 ON 5/17/18 I purchased this car 1/17/20 it does not appear this work was completed I am still having this problem (ECM) CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
2021 Tires had wear. Was told Rack and Pinion was out needed to be replaced. Should not drive due to possible loss of steering. Repairs with parts from Dodge. 2024 Ties had wear. Was told Rack and Pinion needed to be replaced. Should not drive due to possible loss of steering.
My airbag warning light keeps going off and there is no issue with the airbaga nor has the vehicle been in an accident.
Buckle; harness:clip broken
On Monday, August 16, 2021, I was driving towards a busy intersection when my steering wheel was all of a sudden unable to turn in either direction. I stopped the vehicle before merging on the busy intersection, which my next destination was I-80. My safety was very much at risk due to this as if it would have failed on I-80, myself or my children could have been severely injured as well as other drivers. I had the vehicle towed to a local dealership (Greenway Motors) and they inspected the vehicle and initially found that the power steering pump was broken and there was metal debris that would need to be flushed but that when they start the repair, more than likely the debris would also be in the steering gears. They said the vehicle was no longer under a warranty for this issue. Based on their inspection, the cost they stated for the repair I could not afford so I contacted an auto repair shop locally (Ewerts). I had the vehicle towed to that location on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. Ewerts informed me that when replacing the power steering pump and flushing the lines, they did find metal debris also in the steering gears. The vehicle is currently still in repair at Ewerts. The estimated repair cost is now roughly $1,600.00 There were no warning lights or messages on the vehicle prior to this incident.
The contact owned a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated while driving 20 mph, when she rear-ended another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated she hit the steering wheel due to the impact and had chest pains later that night and the following day sought medical attention at an emergency room. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was towed to towing lot. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
The transmission went out. You would hit gas, hear engine but wouldn’t go anywhere.
Catalytic converter. Emissions. 2011-2016 Dodge Journey Were recalled.
ABS LIGHT AND CRUISE CONTROL STAY ON AND IT NOT WORKING. DOING MY RESEARCH THERE IS A CRUISE CONTROL RECALL FOR 2014 AND 2018, BUT OUR CAR WAS NEVER RECALL.
2017 DODGE JOURNEY OIL FILTER HOUSING LEAK. VEHICLE IS PERSISTENT LEAKING OIL. CHRYSLER DODGE DEALER CLAIMS THERE ARE 40,000 ORDERS FOR THIS PART IN WAITING AND THAT THE TIMETABLE FOR GETTING A REPLACEMENT PART IS INDEFINITE. THEIR SUGGESTION IS TO KEEP REFILLING WITH OIL FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. THEY STATE THE PART MAY EVENTUALLY BE A RECALLED BUT IS NOT YET. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE WITH SO MANY KNOWN PROBLEMS THAT IT'S NOT BEEN RECALLED ALREADY. ADDITIONALLY IT'S A $700 REPAIR FOR A KNOWN ISSUE.
SEVERAL LIGHTS CAME ON THE DASHBOARD INCLUDING THE ELECTRONIC TRACTION CONTROL AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO COMPLETELY STOLE ON THE FREEWAY WITH NO POWER AND COULD ONLY GO 25 MPH. THIS ALONG WITH REPEATEDLY ACCELERATING AS I WAS TRYING TO STOP CAUSED NEARLY AN ACCIDENT .
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED SHE NOTICED OIL ON THE GROUND UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT OIL WAS ADDED EVERY TWO DAYS DUE TO THE OIL LEAK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN OIL FILTER HOUSING FAILURE WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER PARKS MOTORS (11987 US-54, AUGUSTA, KS 67010) AND THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE BUT WAS INFORMED BY BOTH PARTIES THAT THE ADAPTER FOR THE ENGINE OIL FILTER WAS ON BACK ORDER WITH AN UNKNOWN ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
MY DODGE JOURNEY HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURE ALONG WITH THE GAS TANK NOT BEING ABLE TO FILL UP TO THE F. MY CAR JERKED TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT CAUSE THE CAR TO MOVE FORWARD. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOOK ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF TO FIX IT. HERE I AM ONE WEEK LATER HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NEEDING TO BRING IT BACK TO REFIX THE ISSUE. THERE IS A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE AND HAVING TO HAVE THE SAME TRANSMISSION ISSUES RETURN FOR FIXING TWO TO THREE TIMES BEFORE THE CAR IS FIXED RIGHT. THIS IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR BUT A TRANSMISSION ISSUE THAT NEEDS SEVERAL FIXES BEFORE THE CAR EVEN REACHES 1200000 MILES TO CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS NOT A GOOD LOOK. THE TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE RECALLED AND NEW TRANSMISSIONS SHOULD BE GIVEN TO PEOPLE WHO OWN THIS BRAND OF VEHICLE. I ONLY HAVE ONE CAR AND NEED THIS VEHICLE TO PUT FOOD ON MY TABLE FOR MY FAMILY DURING A NEVER ENDING PANDEMIC AT THAT. THE TRANSMISSION ON THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT RELIABLE EVEN AFTER FIXING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 DODGE JOURNEY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT ON THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE FAILED TO SECURELY LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER NAPLETON'S RIVER OAKS CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (17225 TORRENCE AVE, LANSING, IL 60438, (708) 782-4768) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 17,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED.
EGINE
FIANC LEANING ON SEAT FROM MIDDLE ROW AND DRIVER SEAT HEADREST DEPLOYED AND SEPARATED, WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK
ROCKER ARMS ARE LOOSE NEEDING REPLACED. TRANSMISSION IS ALMOST LOCKED UP.
WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, A RED BATTERY IMAGE DISPLAYED ON THE MENU CENTER SCREEN.NEXT DAY HAD IT CHECKED, WAS TOLD ALL WAS FINE,EVERYTHING CHECK OUT..A WEEK LATER WAS ON FREEWAYAGAIN,HEADLIGHTS FLICKED, RADIO WENT DEAD(DISPLAY &SOUND) TWICE, ENGINE BOGGED DOWN BRIEFLY. CAR IS IN SHOP NOW..TWO DAYS.AND NO ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS..THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A WELL-DOCUMENTED PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL OF VEHICLE..HAS THIS CAUSED DEATH? WILL IT LEAD TO DEATH, YES, IS THERE HELP FOR THE CONSUMERS?? I'M AWARE OF NUMEROUS ELECTRONICAL PROBLEMS WITH THESE AND OTHER DODGE VEHICLES. AS I HAVE OWNED ONE IN THE PAST WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THAT COST ME THOUSANDS , AND COULD NOT BE FIXED, EVEN BY A TECH FROM CORPORATE OUT OF STATE..NOW WITH MY CURRENT SITUATION HOW CAN I BE CONFIDENT ON THE ROAD? ALSO WHY, WHEN THE DEALERSHIP KNOW(FOR A FACT) THEIR VEHICLES HAVE THESE ISSUES. THEY CHARGE A $180.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE, THAT CAN NOT BE APPLIED TO REPAIR..UNFAIR AND CRIMINAL TO PUT VEHICLES ON THE ROAD THEY KNOW ARE FAULTY..FAULTY AS IN ELECTRONIC ISSUES THAT NO ONE CAN PINPOINT..AND IT APPEARS THAT IF THEY THROW ENOUGH PARTS AT IT, MAYBE THAT WILL WORK...THESE ISSUES MUST STOP!!
AS MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING FOR WORK FOR THE CENSUS, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE MESSAGE NOTIFICATION ENVELOPE BOTH APPEARED ON THE DASH SCREEN THEY FLASHED ON ONCE FLASHED OFF AND FLAMES BLEW OUT FROM BOTH FRONT WHEELS WELLS. THE CAR IMMEDIATELY WENT UP IN FLAMES AND MY HUSBAND WAS LUCKY TO GET OUT OF THERE ALIVE.*DT*DT*DT CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED.*JB*JB*DT*DT*JB THE CONSUMER PROVIDED PHOTOS. *TR*DT*TR*JB
AFTER RECLINING THE SEAT, THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED. AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. NOT SURE WHY THAT HAPPENED. DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS, TAKE IT TO THE DEALER OR WHAT. IS THERE A RECALL ON THE HEADRESTS?
OTHER DRIVER RAN RED LIGHT CAUSING ME TO HIT THEM AT AN INTERSECTION. I WAS TRAVELING 40MPH. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FRONT OF MY VEHICLE WAS TOTALED.*DT*DT*JB*JB
MY HORN RANDOMLY BLOWS WHILE PARKED. VEHICLE IS IN PARK AND THE DOORS ARE SHUT AND LOCKED. NO ONE AROUND THE VEHICLE. IT HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES TODAY. ONCE I GET OUT TO THE VEHICLE TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM THE HORN STOPS BLOWING ON ITS OWN. WHEN IT HAPPENS NUMEROUS TIMES OR CONTINUOUSLY IT RUNS THE BATTERY DOWN.
FIRST IT WAS ALL THE LIGHTS ON MY DASHBOARD WOULD STAY ON. MY USB AND CHARGING PORTS WOULD GO OUT. EVERY ONCE IN WHILE MY DIGITAL SPEEDOMETER WOULD RANDOMLY START DOUBLING MY SPEED. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY APPARENTLY REPLACED THE PART NEEDED. THAT SEEMED TO FIX THAT PROBLEM AT LEAST FOR NOW. BUT NOW THE SPEEDOMETER HERE AND THERE WILL ACT UP AGAIN. WHEN IT DOES , IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE ENGINE IS WORKING AGAINST ME TO GO. IT FEELS LIKE IT TRIES TO STOP ME WHEN I AM PRESSING THE GAS TO GO. IT DOES NOT DO THIS ALL THE TIME. BUT IT IS MORE FREQUENT THAN USUAL. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE A LITTLE LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. IT STARTED OFF WITH MINOR THINGS , BUT NOW SEEMS TO BE TURNING FOR THE WORSE. I AM CONCERNED OF IT GO OUT ALL TOGETHER COMPLETELY.DEALERSHIP WE WENT TO MADE IT SEEM LIKE IT WAS NOTHING. BUT BEING A DAILY DRIVING I KNOW OTHERWISE.
