2008 FORD EDGE HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY. THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND FORD MOTOR CO. REFUSE ANY MORE REPAIR ATTEMPTS OF DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-65 MPH WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR SYMPTOM THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY MAKE AN EXTREMELY LOUD BANG AND VIOLENT JERK OF THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AS IF BEING REAR ENDED. THIS OCCURS SO FAST AND QUICKLY THAT IT IS OVER ALMOST AS SOON AS IT BEGAN. THIS IS SUCH A FRIGHTENING AND DISTRACTIVE ORDEAL FOR NOT ONLY THE DRIVER BUT ALSO THE OTHER OCCUPANTS THAT FAMILY IS AFRAID TO USE THE VEHICLE. IT IS AS IF THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS FOR A SECOND THEN VIOLENTLY REENGAGES. THE PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED IN MAY 2010 @ 48K MILES. NOW AFTER 13K MILES, 6 MONTHS AND 7 TRIES AT REPAIR/DIAGNOSIS AT FORD DEALERSHIPS AND HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH FORD DEALERS AND FORD MOTOR CO. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS! I REALLY FEEL THAT FORD WAS JUST STALLING AND NOT ADMITTING TO DEFECT/MALFUNCTION IN ORDER TO LET THE 5YR - 60K MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EXPIRE. THE TRUTH IS NO VEHICLE IN THE WORLD IS ENGINEERED/BUILT TO TAKE THIS PHYSICAL PUNISHMENT AND NOT FAIL. I BELIEVE IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED IT WILL LEAD TO A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, AND I PRAY THAT NO ONE IS INJURED. *TR
HAVING TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DELAYS IN GOING TO THE NEXT GEAR, CAUSING THE CAR TO HAVE A HIGH RPM. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO, IT SEEMS THE CAR SHIFTS HARD BETWEEN GEARS. *TR
I AM ANOTHER FORD EDGE OWNER WITH SAFETY CONCERNS RELATING TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. MY CAR UPON ACCELERATION GOT ME FAR ENOUGH INTO A HIGHWAY TO BE STRUCK BY AN ON COMING 18 WHEELER. THANK GOD, HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AROUND ME. THE RPS ROAR AND THE CAR BASICALLY CRAWLS, THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGES AND WHEN IT DOES IT FEELS AS IF YOU HAVE BEEN RAMMED IN THE REAR END. I HAVE READ MANY MANY COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRING IN THE FORD EDGE. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND HAVE FORD CORRECT THIS ISSUE BEFORE OTHERS ARE KILLED. 2008 FORD EDGE AWD 26K MILES PURCHASED USED. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SLOW. VARIES UNDER DIFFERENT LOAD AND THROTTLE POSITIONS. SOME TIMES SLIPS BETWEEN 2 TO 3 SHIFTS. NOTICED THE DAY PURCHASED. *TR
2008 FORD EDGE - TRANSMISSION AND ACCELERATION DEFECT. OUR EDGE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP AND THEN JUMPS FORWARD VIOLENTLY. SOMETIMES IT WILL NOT GO AT ALL. AFRAID OF RUNNING INTO SOMETHING. WE GOT THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. NOW THE CAR WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS. RPM ARE OVER 7 AND CAR WON'T GO PAST 20 MPH. WE HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. BECAUSE IT OFTEN RUNS FINE AND THEN SUDDENLY HAS THIS ISSUE WHERE IT WON'T GO, IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT ON A HIGHWAY. I'VE SEEN MANY, MANY OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME CAR, SAME ISSUE ALL OVER THE WEB. FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING. STARTED IN APRIL '10, ISSUE STILL NOT FIXED AS OF AUG '10. *TR
UPON ACCELERATION THE RPM'S WILL GO UP YET THE CAR WILL SLOW DOWN AND YOU WILL FEEL A BANG AS IF SOMEONE HAS REAR-ENDED YOU. THIS HAS HAPPENED QUITE A FEW TIMES WITHIN A YEAR OF US PURCHASING IT BRAND NEW. THE DEALER COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG SEVERAL TIMES I BROUGHT IT TO THEM. FINALLY, I LEFT IT THERE A FEW MONTHS AGO AND WOULDN'T TAKE IT BACK UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. THEY RE-DID THE TRANSMISSION AND SAID IT IS FIXED. I HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH IT STILL. I ALMOST GOT INTO A CAR ACCIDENT BECAUSE IT DID IT AS I WAS TURNING AND IT JUST WOULDN'T KICK INTO GEAR, THEN A BIG BANG AND IT GOES. I ALMOST GOT HIT DEAD ON. NOW THEY ARE TELLING ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I HAVE 60,240 MILES ON IT AND IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AT 60,000. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT IT SINCE THEY FIXED IT BUT EVERYTIME I WENT TO BRING IT THERE TO HAVE IT CHECKED, THEY DIDN'T HAVE A LOANER OR THE TECH WHO NEEDS TO LOOK AT IT IS OFF. WE CALLED CORPORATE AND THEY DID NOTHING. THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT I AM READING SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND NOTHING IS GETTING DONE - NO RECALLS, NOTHING. THIS IS UNFAIR AS TO I HAVE MAINTAINED EVERYTHING ON THIS VEHICLE AND IT SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS. THIS IS A FORD ISSUE AND THEY SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THIS. IT IS NOT THE CONSUMERS FAULT FOR POOR MANUFACTURING OF A VEHICLE THAT WAS ADVERTISED SO GREAT! THEY SHOULD BE FIXING THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT OR KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS ON THE 60 FWY WEST , STOPPED FOR TRAFFIC . I GOT HIT FROM BEHIND AT ABOUT 65-70 MPH AND PUSHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. MY FORD EDGE WAS TOTALED. AIRBAGS SMOKED BUT DID NOT DEPLOY, LOOKS LIKE THEY MALFUNCTIONED. THE AREA AROUND THE AIRBAG WAS RAISED BUT NO AIR BAG CAME OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE WOULD ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY A DEFECT IN THE FIREWALL DESIGN. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE AS TO HOW TO REPAIR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000. DANGEROUS ACCELERATION AND DRAMATIC DECELERATION BETWEEN 20 - 40 MPH WITH THE 2008 FORD EDGE. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2009, MY WIFE AND I PURCHASED A CERTIFIED PRE OWNED 2008 FORD EDGE SE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IT WILL SLIP AND THEN ENGAGE VERY ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD. IT WILL ALMOST HESITATE AND THEN ENGAGE VIOLENTLY. THE SPEEDOMETER WILL ALSO JUMP UP AND DOWN +/- 5 MPH. IT FEELS LIKE WE ARE BEING HIT IN THE REAR BY A CAR. THE PROBLEM OCCURS EVERY COUPLE HUNDRED MILES THUS DAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO GREENWAY FORD ORLANDO 3 TIMES, EACH AFTER AN INCIDENT OCCURED. THE FIRST TIME THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION CPU. THE SECOND TIME THEY REMOVED A NAIL FROM THE TIRE. THE THIRD TIME A FORD ENGINEER CAME OUT AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THEY WILL NOT OPEN THE TRANSMISSION OR DO ANYTHING MORE. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD MANY TIMES.
MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY WHEN THE PANORAMIC MOONROOF ON MY 2008 FORD EDGE SHATTERED. WE WERE NOT NEAR AN UNDERPASS OR CLOSE TO ANOTHER VEHICLE. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY ANY FOREIGN OBJECT. WE HEARD A LOUD POP, WHICH MY HUSBAND THOUGHT WAS A GUN SHOT. HE FELT THE SHADE AND COULD FEEL PIECES OF GLASS WEIGHING THE SHADE DOWN. HE PULLED OVER TO INSPECT THE ROOF. THE ENTIRE GLASS WAS SHATTERED, BUT STICKING TOGETHER FOR THE MOST PART. THE EDGES WERE CRUMBLING AS WERE PARTS THROUGHOUT IN THE CENTER. AS WE DROVE HOME MORE PIECES OF GLASS STARTED CRUMBLING OFF. FORTUNATELY THE SHADE WAS CLOSED AT THE TIME OR THE PIECES OF GLASS WOULD HAVE LANDED ON MY HUSBAND WHILE DRIVING AND ON MY INFANT SON AND ME IN THE BACK SEAT. WE WERE ALSO FORTUNATE THAT IT WAS NOT RAINING AT THAT MOMENT (ALTHOUGH IT DID LATER THAT EVENING). THE DEALERSHIP HAD CLOSED FOR THE WEEKEND, SO I WAITED UNTIL FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING AND TOOK THE CAR IN. I HAVE THE STANDARD BUMPER-TO-BUMPER WARRANTY, AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND A MAINTENANCE PACKAGE ON THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER, FORD CLAIMS THAT THE ROOF IS NOT COVERED BY ANY OF THOSE BECAUSE IT IS GLASS. I FIND IT HIGHLY UNUSUAL THAT THE GLASS USED FOR A ROOF WOULD NOT BE MADE OF DURABLE GLASS SIMILAR TO A WINDSHIELD, GIVEN THE LIKELIHOOD OF A ROCK HITTING IT OR FALLING HAIL. HAD THE SHADE BEEN OPEN OR HAD THE WEATHER CONDITIONS BEEN BAD, THE SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. I HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT SEVERAL SUNROOFS ON THE FORD ESCAPE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH SHATTERING WITHOUT PROVOCATION AS WELL. MY DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO PAY A PORTION OF THE $1300 REPLACEMENT COST GIVEN THAT FORD REFUSED TO COVER ANY OF THE COSTS AND GIVEN ITS DESIRE TO MAINTAIN GOOD CUSTOMER RELATIONS. HOWEVER, FORD HAS YET TO BE ABLE TO LOCATE OR MANUFACTURE A REPLACEMENT GLASS (APPROXIMATELY TWO AND A HALF WEEKS AFTER THE INCIDENT). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED AS HE WAS DRIVING COMING TO A STOP BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RACED VERY HIGH AND HE CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE RIGHT SIDE OF HIS VEHICLE WAS BADLY DAMAGED BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE POLICE CAME AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE BODY SHOP AND IT WILL BE TOWED TO THE DEALER AFTER IT IS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN CALLED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
I HAVE A 2008 FORD EDGE AND IT IS HAVING SHIFT PROBLEMS IN GOING FROM 1ST TO DRIVE. THIS IS INTERMITTENT AND WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD AT ALL. IT HAS LEFT ME STALLED IN TRAFFIC A COUPLE OF TIMES. FORD SERVICE HAS BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR OVER 6 WEEKS AND HAVE KEPT THE VEHICLE. THEY JUST SEEM TO KEEP REPLACING PARTS AFTER THEY REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A SAFETY AND RELIABILITY PROBLEM. MY WIFE IS AFRAID TO DRIVE IT IF WE EVER GET IT BACK. THEY HAVE ONLY GIVEN US A SIX YEAR OLD LOANER! *TR
2008 FORD EDGE, RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM, NEEDS REAR CONTROLLING ARM AND WHEEL BEARING REPLACED. NOISE FROM REAR RIGHT OF VEHICLE NOTED. HAD TIRES CHECKED (REFERENCING TREAD), ROTATED, AND BALANCED. THE BUSINESS NOTED THE WHEEL BEARING MALFUNCTION/ISSUE AND ADVISE TO TAKE TO FORD. CONTACTED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. PER PHONE CALL, WAS ADVISED THIS HAD BEEN OCCURRING ON SEVERAL EDGE VEHICLES. ONCE TAKEN TO SHOP, CONFIRMED AND ADVISED BOTH THE WHEEL BEARING AND THE CONTROLLING ARM MUST BE REPLACED AS ONE. ADVISED BACK ORDER FOR CONTROLLING ARM, BUT NOT INFORMATION AVAILABLE ON HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE TO RECEIVE. ASKED FORD IF SAFE TO DRIVE AND WAS ADVISE "YES, IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE; IT JUST MAY BE MORE NOTICEABLE/MAKE MORE NOISE". INCIDENT DATE IS LISTED AS THE DATE TAKEN TO TIRE SHOP. NOISE SEEM TO APPEAR APPROXIMATELY 1 TO 1/2 MONTHS AGO. *CW
TAKATA RECALL. I WAS JUST ADVISED I MIGHT HAVE A RECALLED AIRBAG. FORD NEVER ADVISED ME.
2008 EDGE PURCHASED NEW IN 2009. IMMEDIATELY NOTED STRANGE SURGING WHEN ACCELERATING AND BRAKING. CONCERNED ABOUT TRANSMISSION. NOTIFIED FORD COOPERATE WHEN DEALER SAID VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING 'NORMALLY" SO CONCERNED CEASED DRIVING ON FREEWAY. IN SEPT OF 2011, TOOK VEHICLE TO BE SERVICED. THEY ASKED THAT I WAIT EVEN THOUGH I SHARED ONGOING CONCERNS. VEHICLE WAS GIVEN TO ME AND TOLD THAT ALL WAS WELL. AT 32000, IN DEC. OF 2011 ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON...TOOK TO DEALER WHO ADVISED ME THEY WOULD NEED TO KEEP IT FOR SOME TIME AND ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REMOVED. 6 DAYS LATER, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM PHASER AND ALSO SOMETHING WITH COOLING SYSTEM. OTHER ISSUES THAT SHOULD BE NOTED IS THAT THE BATTERY HAS BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CAR FOR NO REASON HAS ALARM GO OFF. VERY MUCH CONCERNED THAT INFORMATION IS BEING WITHHELD AND THAT THIS MAY BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH EDGE AND PERHAPS THERE IS A NEED FOR A RECALL. I KNOW NOTHING MORE AT THIS POINT, BUT WILL BE CONTACTING ALL SAFETY ORGANIZATIONS FOR MORE INFORMATION. *TR
2008 FORD EDGE. SPEED, ABOUT 25-30 MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. 2008 FORD EDGE WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY A TRUCK AND PUSHED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT. 1) NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED; 2) THE BACK OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT (ELECTRICLLY CONTROLLED SEAT) LET GO ON IMPACT, LEAVING THE DRIVER LYING ON AN ESSENTIALLY FLAT SEAT. THE CAR WAS TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. ** WHY DID THE SEAT LET GO; ** WHY DIDN'T THE FRONT AIR BAG DEPLOY. IT HAPPENED WHEN I CAME OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE SIDE ROAD, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE AND I LOST POWER TO DRIVE, AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS IT WOULD ONLY GO 30 MILES OF SPEED. I WENT INTO A PARKING LOT, TURNED THE MOTOR OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR 10 MIN. I RESTARTED IT AND IT SEEMED FINE. BUT NOW ON A REGULAR BASIS IT WILL CLUNK IN THE REAR LIKE I HAVE BEEN HIT AND THEN CLEAR UP AND DRIVE GOOD. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED MANY TIMES BY FORD AND OTHER PLACES BUT NO ONE CAN FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE DRIVE TRAIN. I NOTICE ON FORD FORUM THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE BY FORD TO COVER ALL FORD EDGES FROM 2008 TO 2010 AND HAVE THE DRIVE TRAINS REPLACED, EVEN IF THEY CAN NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. OR FIND OUT WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING TO THIS VEHICLE AND HAVE THEM ALL RECALLED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE BATTERY WAS RECHARGED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 7,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8,000.
DASH CLUSTER (SPEEDOMETER) IS NOT VISIBLE DURING CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY WHILE DRIVING CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. BACKGROUND ON VEHICLE CLUSTER IS SILVER AND THE ILLUMINATED NUMBERS ARE NEON GREEN. WHEN LIGHTS ARE REQUIRED FOR DRIVING DURING DUSK, THE NUMBERS DISAPPEAR FROM VIEW. THERE ARE TIMES THAT WE LEAVE OUR LIGHTS OFF WHEN THEY ARE NEEDED BECAUSE IT IS EASIER TO SEE THE DASH INSTRUMENTS. IF WE TURNED ON THE LIGHTS, THE NUMBERS WOULD DISAPPEAR AND WE WOULDN'T KNOW HOW FAST WE WERE TRAVELING. EVEN DURING NIGHT DRIVING THE NUMBERS ARE ONLY SOFTLY ILLUMINATED. BROUGHT BACK TO DEALER THREE TIMES TO HAVE THIS CORRECTED BUT THEY SAY THEY CANNOT TOUCH THE ODOMETER AREA OR CHANGE THE COLOR DUE TO FEDERAL REGULATIONS. THEY SAY THAT THE PART MUST MATCH THE ORIGINAL VIN NUMBER. WE FEEL IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. OUR DEALER IS WILLING TO WORK WITH US BUT FORD WILL NOT. THE CAR IS BRAND NEW (ONLY 6,000 MILES ON IT). AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH WE HAVE FOUND THAT THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT DASH CLUSTERS FOR THIS VEHICLE. ALL WE WANT IS ONE THAT IMPROVES OUR SAFETY AND HAS BETTER VISIBILITY. *TR
THE FRONT SEAT HEAD RESTS OF MY 2008 FORD EDGE HAS AN ANGLE THAT STRETCHES MY NECK FORWARD IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE ANGLE. I GET SEVERE NECK PAIN IF THE BACK OF MY SEAT IS UP TO SUPPORT MY LUMBAR REGION. IF I LOWER THE BACK TO KEEP THE HEAD REST FROM JUTTING MY NECK FORWARD, MY LUMBAR REGION IS NOT SUPPORTED AND I GET BACK PAIN. SO, QUITE OFTEN I END UP WITH THE SEAT FORWARD TO SUPPORT MY LOWER BACK AND I SIT AT AN ANGLE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT WITH MY HEAD TO THE SIDE OF THE HEAD REST AND ARMS RESTING ON THE ARM RESTS. SO I DRIVE AT AN ANGLE IN THE SEAT WITH AN S IN MY BACK. THIS IS NOT GOOD FOR MY BACK OR POSTURE AND NOT SAFE BECAUSE I AM NOT FACING STRAIGHT FORWARD. I HAVE CALLED THE FORD DEALER I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM AND THEY DID NOT SEEM TO HAVE ANY SOLUTIONS FOR THIS, BUT NOTED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THIS. WHILE MAKING A LOW SPEED LEFT HAND TURN, THE DRIVER HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE CARD STOPPED DEAD IN THE ROAD. UPON INVESTIGATION THE RIGHT WHEEL INCLUDING THE DISC BRAKE ROTOR, CALIPER, AND WHEEL HAS SEPARATED FROM THE TRANSAXLE. THE HALF SHAFT WAS PULLED COMPLETELY OUT OF THE TRANSAXLE AND THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY WAS HELD ONTO THE CAR BY THE BRAKE LINE AND THE SHOCK STRUT ASSEMBLY. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED FROM THE WHEEL. THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY UNDRIVABLE AT THIS POINT AND HAD TO BE TOWED. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH HER SAFETY AND THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS IN POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNDER 19,500.
EVENTS LEADING UP TO FAILURE: WAS DRIVING CAR AT A VERY SLOW RATE OF SPEED (LESS THAN 5 MPH) MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A COMMERCIAL SHOPPING CENTER. FAILURE: UPON MAKING TURN, I HEARD A "POP" NOISE. AFTER TRYING TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD NOT MOVE. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND NOTICED THAT THE WHEEL HAD BECOME DETACHED FROM THE AXLE AND WAS ONLY ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE BY THE STRUT. BEARINGS HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE RELATED COMPONENTS AND THE WHEEL WAS AT APPROXIMATELY A 60% ANGLE WITH THE PAVEMENT (OTHER WHEEL WAS FINE AND WAS PERPENDICULAR TO PAVEMENT). CORRECTION OF FAILURE: TOWING TRUCK RESPONDED AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING SERVICED UNDER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. INITIAL REPORT FROM THE SERVICE TEAM IS THAT IT IS MOST LIKELY MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE TRANSMISSION COULD ALSO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SINCE YOU HAVE TO HIT THE GAS AND BRAKE QUICKLY. MY WIFE WAS BACKING UP IN THE RAIN AND HAD TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO GET GOING BACKWARDS AND HER 2008 FORD EDGE ACCELERATED TOO MUCH AND SHE HIT MY TRUCK AND AFTER SHE HAD HIT MY TRUCK THAT IS WHEN THE BACKUP SENSORS WENT OFF. I WAS INVOLVED IN A LATERAL COLLISION TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE/DOOR AT AN ALLEGED 25 MPH WHEN A SUBJECT DRIVING A 97 CHEVY CAVALIER, FAILED TO STOP AT A RED TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT AN INTERSECTION. I'M AN OCCUPANT PROTECTION COORDINATOR & CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY TECH/INSTRUCTOR, AND IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH MY COLLEAGUES IN THE SAFETY INDUSTRY, WE'RE ALL SHOCKED AT THE INOPERABILITY OF MY SIDE IMPACT AIRBAGS. I ONLY HAD ABOUT 6500 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH. I WAS TRANSPORTED BY SQUAD AND TREATED FOR INJURIES TO THE ENTIRE LEFT SIDE OF MY BODY (SPECIFICALLY MY HEAD, SHOULDER, ELBOW, HIP,) AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY NECK. I'M STILL IN NEED OF AND RECEIVING MEDICAL TREATMENTS FOR THE INJURIES CAUSED BY THIS CRASH. I FIELD A COMPLAINT WITH FORD IN OCT 08 AND SUBMITTED THE CLAIM TO FORD (01/18/09). WELL I BOUGHT AN 08 FORD EDGE 1 MONTH AGO WITH 400 MILES ON IT. WITHIN THE LAST MONTH THE VEH IS SHIFTING REALLY HARD INTO 2ND GEAR. SHOP HAS CONFIRMED PROBLEM I AM STATING IS HAPPENING BUT PER FORD HOTLINE NO REPAIRS ARE TO BE DONE UNTIL 2500 MILES. CAR NEEDS TO LEARN DRIVING PATTERN. THE PROBLEM IS IT SHIFTS SO HARD IT THROWS MY CHILDREN BACK IN THEIR SEAT AND GOES INTO THE RED ZONE WHILE SHIFTING. MY CAR NOW HAS 1,600 MILES AND STILL SHIFTING REALLY HARD. THE VEH IS NOW SHIFTING HARD INTO 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD EDGE. WHENEVER IT IS DARK OR CLOUDY, THE CONTACT IS UNABLE TO READ THE NUMBERS ON THE SPEEDOMETER. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED EVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT DOES NOT KNOW HOW FAST HE IS DRIVING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY DID NOT ASSIST IN REMEDYING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT PURCHASED AN ANGLE MIRROR IN AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE LIGHT REFLECT OFF OF IT; HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT HELP. HE BELIEVES THAT IT NEEDED TO BE MANUFACTURED DIFFERENTLY BECAUSE ON DAYS WITHOUT BRIGHT SUN LIGHT, IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE HOW FAST HE IS DRIVING. 3 WEEK OLD SEL FORD EDGE, WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, ROLLS BACK WHILE IN THE DRIVE GEAR ON ANY SLIGHT INCLINE. NEARLY HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME QUICKLY SWITCHING TO GAS PEDAL FROM BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING CAR BEHIND ME ON INCLINE IN STOP & GO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. SAFETY ISSUE FOR DRIVING ON SLIGHT INCLINES, IN HILLY AREAS, PARKING ON ANY SLIGHT INCLINE, AND VALET PARKING. COMPLAINED TO DEALER, BUT DEALER SAYS IT'S NORMAL DUE TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER SELECTED BY FORD. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, MY SUNROOF COMPLETELY SHATTERED. TODAY WAS VERY HOT APPROXIMATELY 110 F. UPON INSPECTION OF THE SUNROOF, THERE WERE NO STRIKING MARKS. THE EVENT WAS SO FAST AND LOUD, SOME DEBRIS BLEW BACK ONTO FOLLOWING VEHICLES CREATING A HAZARD. AT THIS TIME, THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT. THE VEHICLE IS A 2007 FORD EDGE WITH LESS THAN 9000 MILES. *TR
I HAVE CONTACTED TOWNEAST FORD TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I FOUND OUT I NEEDED TO GET THE AIRBAGS REPLACE, THEY TELL ME FORD WILL CONTACT ME WHEN THEY HAVE REPLACEMENTS, MEANWHILE I DRIVE AROUND WITH A GRENADE ATTACHED TO MY DASH.
ENCLOSED ARE A DESCRIPTION AND THE OTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE FORD EDGE YOU REQUESTED. THIS IS A PART OF WHAT WAS SENT TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AFTER THE SUNROOF CLAIM WAS DENIED ON THE BASIS THAT THEY FEEL SOMETHING FROM THE OUTSIDE HIT THE SUNROOF. ON JULY 24, 2008 AT ABOUT 8:00 PM, MY BROTHER IN LAWS WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON INTERSTATE 75 JUST NORTH OF BOWLING GREEN, OHIO. HE WAS DRIVING 60-65 MPH WITH THE WINDOWS UP, AIR CONDITIONER ON, AND THE SUNROOF CLOSED. AS HE WAS DRIVING, HE REPORTS A SUDDEN EXPLOSION IN THE CAR, LIKE HE WAS SHOT. HE AND THE PASSENGER HAD SMALL SHARDS OF BROKEN GLASS RAIN DOWN ON THEM. THEY MANAGED TO SAFELY PULL THE CAR TO THE BRIM OF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS. UPON EXAMINING THE SUNROOF, THEY OBSERVED A HOLE THE SIZE OF A SMALL DINNER PLATE IN THE CENTER OF THE ROOF AND ALL FOUR CORNERS MISSING. THE GLASS IN THE MIDDLE AND CORNERS OF THE SUNROOF HAD THE APPEARANCE ?LIKE A VOLCANO? OUT OF THE CAR. BOTH THE DRIVER AND THE PASSENGER REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO OVERPASSES OR CARS AROUND THEM TO KICK UP ANY OBJECT THAT COULD HAVE HIT THE ROOF. THE GLASS FROM THE HOLE WAS NOT IN THE CAR. I FEEL THIS CLAIM HAS BEEN DENIED UNJUSTLY AND THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND PLANET FORD OF CENTERVILLE ARE CLOSING THEIR EYES TO AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY BY SOMEONE IN PERSON INSTEAD OF SENDING ?DIGITAL PICTURES? TO SOMEONE AT CORPORATE TO MAKE A DECISION. AFTER ALL, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL, LEAVING FORD WITH A MUCH BIGGER PROBLEM THAN JUST REPLACING A FAULTY SUNROOF. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SINCE FIRST FEW MONTHS OF OWNING IT. AT TIMES WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS THE CAR'S POWER GOES AWAY IN THE SENSE YOU MIGHT BE DRIVING 68 THEN THE CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN, THEN SLAM, THERE IS A LOUD MECHANICAL SLAM, AND THE CAR FEELS LIKE YOU RAN IT TO SOMETHING METAL OR SOLID. IT LITERALLY SHAKES THE WHOLE CAR SCARES THE !@#$ OUT OF YOU. IT?S USUALLY ON THE EXPRESS WAY AND MORE WHEN IT?S COLD. IT SEEMS WHEN I?M BARELY INCREASING THE GAS, THEN LETTING OFF A BIT, THEN BACK ON THE GAS AGAIN. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER FOUND A BULLETIN FROM FORD STATING THAT REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T FIX THIS PROBLEM TO WAIT FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE 2008. THE CAR RUNS GREAT OTHER THEN THIS PROBLEM. THIS MIGHT NOT HAPPEN FOR WEEKS THEN IT WILL HAPPEN AS MANY OF 3 TIMES IN A 5 MILE DRIVE. I WENT ON A 2 HOUR TRIP THIS WEEK. IT HAPPENED TWICE ON THE WAY UP AND ONCE ON THE WAY BACK. AS SOON AS WE TAKE IT TO THE DEALER IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. I'VE ASKED THEM TO KEEP THE CAR FOR A WEEK AND DRIVE IT. THAT HASN'T HAPPENED. THEY KEEP THROWING THEIR HANDS IN THE AIR. I WISH IT WOULD JUST LOCK UP SO THEY CAN FIND SOMETHING. I HAVE SEEN OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS BUT YET FORD HASN'T FIXED IT. *TR
