DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LATCH SENSOR INDICATES DOOR AJAR CONTINUALLY WHEN IT IS NOT AJAR. THIS RESULTS IN INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINING ON FOR A WHILE WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNLESS MESSAGE IS ACKNOWLEDGED ON DRIVERS PANEL. DOORS REMAIN UNLOCKED. LIGHTS REMAIN ON WHEN EXITING AND LEAVING THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED UNDER WARRANTY IN 2012 AND DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED. NOW IT HAS OCCURRED AGAIN AND WILL NEED TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS A SIGNIFICANT NUISANCE AND POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. THE NUMBER OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS IN THIS DATABASE CLEARLY INDICATES TO ME THAT A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM EXISTS AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
DOOR AJAR LIGHT - STAYS ON AND KEEPS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON. ALL DOORS ARE SHUT, AND LIGHTS STILL STAY ON BECAUSE OF DOOR AJAR LIGHT. IT HAS KILLED THE BATTERY SEVERAL TIMES LEAVING ME STRANDED IN SEVERAL PLACES.
WHEN DRIVING, THE WRENCH ICON CAME ON AND THE CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION. POWER WAS LOST AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL! THERE WAS NO LIMP MODE, NO ACCELERATION AT A REDUCED SPEED. THIS WAS/IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! IT HAPPENED TO ME 7 TIMES WITHIN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. I WAS FORTUNATE TO BE DRIVING IN A SUBURBAN COMMUNITY WHERE I COULD PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT, IT WORKED FINE. THE FORD DEALER COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CODE WHEN THEY CHECKED. I JUST TOOK IT IN AGAIN BECAUSE THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON, AND THEY HAVE SAID IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY.
WE HAD THE OIL CHANGED BY FORD DEALER HERE IN WINCHESTER, TN AND EVERY SINCE THEN, WHEN I GET IN THE CAR AND CLOSE THE DRIVERS DOOR CLOSES, BUT A NOTICE ON THE DASH STATES " DRIVERS DOOR IS AJAR". NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I CLOSE THE DOOR, THE MESSAGE STAYS THE SAME. ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL GO AWAY.
DASHBOARD DISPLAYS DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR WHEN DOOR IS LOCKED. DOME LIGHTS REMAIN ON AND ALARM SYSTEM CANNOT BE ARMED.
TAKATA RECALL. THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON AT ALL TIMES. WILL NOT GO OFF NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU SHUT THE DOOR, THE DOME LIGHT STAYS ON, RUNDS THE BATTERY DEAD. I HAVE TRIED EVERY THING INCLUDING WD 40. I BELIEVE IT IS THE SENSOR BUT I AM NOT A MECHANIC SO.... I HAVE GOOGLED THIS ISSUE AND IT SEEMS THAT EVERYONE THAT OWNS A FORD EDGE HAS THIS ISSUE. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE.MY DRIVER DOOR HAS AT TIMES NOT LATCHED COMPLETELY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I AM DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND HAVE SMALL CHILDREN. FORD NEEDS TO GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER AND RECALL THIS ISSUE FOR EVERY ONE THAT OWNS A FORD EDGE. I HAVE BOUGHT FORDS FOR YEARS. THIS WILL BE MY LAST. THIS ISSUE IS EVERYTIME YOU ENTER THE VEHICLE. STATIONARY, DRIVING, FREEWAY, HIGHWAY, TURNING. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MONTHS NOW. HAS BEEN A CONTINUING PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.
CAR STALLED WHEN ENMOTION AT 40 MPH WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON ALSO AWD LIGHT STOP TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART CAR IT RUNS NORMAL AT THAT POINT BUT WILL DO AGAIN UNEXPECTING AT ANOTHER TIME AND PLACE .SPEED IS NO FACTOR AT ANY GIVEN SPEED IT WILL STALL.IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLOSED CAUSIN THE ENTERIOR LIGHTS TO STAY ON, POSSIBLY DRAINING THE BATTERY OVERNIGHT
DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL CLOSE PROPERLY AND LOCK. INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON IN CAR, DRAINING BATTERY. HAD FIXED THREE YEARS AGO AND PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. RESEARCHED AND FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. SHOULD BE RECALLED.

DOOR AJAR WARNING ISSUE-OF COURSE WARRANTY IS OVER, FORD IS REALLY NOT TRYING TO SATISFY IT'S CUSTOMERS. I REFUSE TO BRING TO DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THEY CHARGE UNREASONABLE RATES AND LOOK FOR OTHER ISSUES NOT ASSOCIATED TO MY REASON FOR BRINGING IN THE CAR. I WILL TRY TO REPAIR MYSELF OR BRING TO A MOM AND POP REPAIR SHOP.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING ILLUMINATED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE SECURITY ALARM SOUNDED ON AND OFF CONSTANTLY. ONCE THE CONTACT ENTERED THE VEHICLE, THE DOOR AJAR INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS STRANDED MANY TIMES DUE TO THE FAILURES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE DRIVER DOOR IS SHOWING "DOOR AJAR" EVEN THOUGH IT IS SHUT. THE PANEL LIGHTS AND DOME LIGHT WILL NOT SHUT OFF. THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK. THE BATTERY IS BEING DRAINED FROM THE LIGHTS NOT TURNING OFF.
BOTH WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND MOVING THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WILL BE CLOSED BUT THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR WILL SAY THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS AJAR DESPITE THE DOOR BEING SECURELY CLOSED. THIS RESULTS IN THE INTERIOR OVERHEAD LIGHTS STAYING ON FOR UP TO FIVE MINUTES. ADDITIONALLY, THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK DESPITE TRYING TO LOCK THEM USING THE LOCKING BUTTON LOCATED ON THE DOOR OR THE KEY FOB. THIS BEGAN HAPPENING ABOUT A YEAR AGO IN MARCH 2016. I KNOW MANY OTHER 2011 FORD EDGE DRIVERS SUFFER FROM THIS SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE LIGHTS REMAIN ON MAKING IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND DRAINS THE BATTERY LEAVING THE DRIVER STRANDED DUE TO A DEAD BATTERY. THE UNLOCKED DOORS COULD RESULT IN SOMEONE OPENING THE DOOR IN A DANGEROUS NEIGHBORHOOD AND FORCING THE DRIVER OR PASSENGER FORM THE VEHICLE. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY OR FORD WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE MY BUSINESS.
DRIVER DOOR IS OPEN, WHEN IT IS CLEARLY CLOSED CAUSING THE DORM LIGHT TO STAY ON. THE CAN BE STATIONARY OR IN MOTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD EDGE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE INTERIOR DOME LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED ALSO. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR SWITCH AND THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
HAVE STARTED TO RECEIVE "DOOR AJAR WARNING" INDICATION WHEN THE DRIVER DOOR IS CLOSED. HAVE RESEARCHED ON-LINE SITES AND FOUND IT TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL FORD VEHICLE. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A PERSONAL SAFETY ISSUE AS THE VEHICLE'S DOORS WILL REMAIN UNLOCKED UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS ADDRESSED. IF I GET THE WARNING TO GO AWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY THE DOORS WILL LOCK AND I CAN BEGIN MY DRIVE. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AS I AM DRIVING THE WARNING WILL RETURN AND THE DOORS WILL UNLOCK AUTOMATICALLY. THIS CAN BE VERY UNNERVING AND FRIGHTENING AT TIMES AS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WILL COME ON AS PART OF THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THIS HAPPENS AT NIGHT THE DRIVER'S VISION IS COMPROMISED BY THE INTERIOR LIGHTS AND DRAWN AWAY FROM THE ROAD. IN ADDITION, THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE'S OCCUPANTS IS COMPROMISED AS THE DOORS REMAIN UNLOCKED. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD AND A RECALL ISSUED. I HAVE INQUIRED WITH MY LOCAL DEALER AND RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE OF $600 FOR THE REPAIR TO BE MADE.

DRIVER'S DOOR AJAR SWITCH IS FAILING CAUSING THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT TO BE ILLUMINATED AND THE INABILITY TO LOCK THE VEHICLE'S DOORS WHEN DRIVING OR WHEN PARKING VEHICLE. SEARCH ON INTERNET INDICATES ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD ON THIS VEHICLE LINE WITH REPAIR COSTS IN THE $30-$500 RANGE. VEHICLE HAS 68,000 MILES.

DOOR LATCH CENSURE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY, IT INDICATES THE DOOR IS OPEN ALL OF THE TIME.

THE DOOR AJAR INDICATOR ILLUMINATED EVEN THOUGH ALL DOORS WERE CLOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIGHTS WERE ABLE TO BE SWITCHED OFF AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. DRIVER DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON EVEN WHEN THE DOOR IS CLEARLY CLOSED. THE CAR WILL NOT STAY LOCKED; I PRESS THE DOOR LOCK AND THE DOORS LOCK AND THEN IMMEDIATELY UNLOCK SO I CANNOT HAVE MY CAR DOORS LOCKED WHILE I AM DRIVING. THIS IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM; IT IS NOT INTERMITTENT. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS CAR. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AT A COST OF $500.00, I HAVE HAD A BRAKE BOOSTER FAILURE WHICH HAD TO BE FIXED, AND NOW THIS PROBLEM WHICH I READ IS A COSTLY FIX. THIS IS MY FIRST FORD VEHICLE; WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
TWO DOOR AJAR LIGHTS ON OUR 2011 EDGE REMAIN ON AT ALL TIMES. BEA AIDE OF THIS I AM FORCED TO DRIVE AT NIGHT WITH THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON. THIS IS UNSAFE AND VERY DISTRACTING FOR US AND OTHER DRIVERS. ONE OF THESE DOORS IS MY DAUGHTERS WHICH WE ARE VERY UNEASY ABOUT. WE ARE AWARE HOW BIG THIS PROBLEM IS AND PEOPLE ARE DESPERATE FOR HELP!!! I WROTE TO FORD BUT THEY SAID THEY CAN'T HELP BECAUSE THERE ARE NO RECALLS AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANY RECORD OF OUR CAR BEING AT A FORD DEALER SO I JUST SENT THEM THE INVOICE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE SO MANY VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND FORD WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
I HAVE HAD MY DOOR AJAR SENSORS MALFUNCTION 3 SEPERATE TIMES. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED TWICE UNDER WARRANTY. THIS 3RD TIME I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $800+ TO FIX THIS BECAUSE NOW BOTH DOORS ARE MALFUNCTIONING. THIS IS A HUGE ANNOYANCE AND A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS MAKES MY DOOM LIGHTS STAY ON AND WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO LOCK MY DOORS WHILE I AM USING MY CAR, WHICH IS EXTREMELY SCARY.

IN ADDITION, AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE INTERIOR LIGHTING FAILED TO SHUT OFF AND CAUSED THE BATTERY TO BECOME INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TRAVELING AT 55MPH, LOST THRTTLE CONTROL, YELLOW WRENCH ICON APPEARED. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. TURNED OFF ENGINE, AND RESARTED. EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL ON WAY BACK HOME. CAR STILL PARKED, HAVEN'T BEEN TO DEALER SHOP YET.
DRIVERS DOOR AJAR SWITCH DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT THE DOOR IS CLOSED.

DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH NOT WORKING - CAUSING WARNING LIGHT AND NOT ENABLING SAFETY/SECURITY SYSTEMS TO ENGAGE WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS STATIONARY, HAPPENS WHEN GETTING IN AND OUT OF CAR. ALSO, DOME LIGHTS REMAIN ON AFTER CAR IS PARKED CAUSING BATTERY TO DIE.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 45 MPH, THE AWD OFF LIGHT APPEARED, THAN A WRENCH APPEARED. I COULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED MY CAR OFF. I RESTARTED MY CAR AND CONTINUED DRIVING. I AM GLAD I WASN'T ON A BUSINESS ROAD AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. I HOPE SOMEBODY DOESN'T HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THIS ISSUE.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR INDICATOR COMES ON AS SOON AS CAR IS RUNNINGSHOWING DRIVERS DOOR AJAR. ALSO DOOR LOCK WON'T ENGAGE WHILE THIS INDICATOR IS ON. I HAVE TO OPEN AND CLOSE DOOR REPEATEDLY UNTIL INDICATOR TURNS OFF AND DOORS LOCK.
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR SENSOR MALFUNCTIONS. WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED IT INDICATES THAT THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN AND DOME LIGHTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE REMAIN ON EVEN WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
DRIVING TO WORK ABOUT TEN MILES OF HIGHWAY, MY CAR STARTED RUNNING ROUGH AND SHAKING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT THEN MY HEATER STOPPED WORKING A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON "ENGINE COOLANT TEMP" THEN IT DIED COMPLETELY IN A MATTER OF SECONDS, I SAW SOME SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD SO I CALLED FOR HELP. THERE WAS NO OTHER WARNING WHATSOEVER! THE MECHANIC TOLD US THAT THE WATER PUMP HAD GONE OUT AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO OVER HEAT. IT SHOT COOLANT INTO THE ENGINE AND IT WAS TOTALED. AGAIN THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING AT ALL. NO SENSORS NO ANYTHING. I MAINTAIN MY VEHICLE WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES ETC. AND IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY WARNING LIGHT I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE DRIVERS DOOR LATCH HAS FAILED. WHEN IT FAILS YOU CAN'T ALWAYS LOCK DOORS AND LIGHT WILL STAY ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM TO STAY ACTIVE EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS OFF CAUSING THE BATTERY TO BE DRAINED. THIS RECENTLY KILLED OUR BATTERY. IT APPEARS AS IF FORD HAS NO FIX FOR THIS AS MANY HAVE SEEN THIS FAILURE TO RECUR EVERY 35K OR SO, GUESS IT DEPENDS ON HOW OFTEN YOU OPEN/CLOSE THE DOOR TO WEAR OUT THE SWITCH. POOR DESIGN.
BACK CAMERA NOT WORKING PROPERLY, DOORS WILL NOT LOCK PROPERLY, FEAR FOR CHILDREN AND DOOR UNLOCKED
DRIVERS DOOR LATCH SWITCH. CANNOT LOCK DOORS OR DOME LIGHT ALWAYS STAYS ON.
TWICE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER 50 MPH, ON A MAIN ROAD, IT LOST POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT TURNED ON. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED.
THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH WILL NOT LATCH PROPERLY CAUSING THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT TO STAY ON. THE DOOR SHUTS AND LOCKS BUT THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYS ON. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE CAR WILL NOT LOCK ALL THE DOORS BECAUSE IT IS SENSING THAT THE FRONT DOOR IS NOT SHUT. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON CAUSING IT HARD TO SEE AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING.
THE DRIVER DOOR AJAR SWITCH WILL NOT SENSE THE DOOR IS SHUT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY. THE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OUT AFTER REPEATED SHUTTING. WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY GARAGE, I CANNOT SEE WHEN IT IS DARK BECAUSE THE INTERIOR LIGHTS BLIND THE DRIVER. I AM FEARFUL I WILL HIT SOMEONE WHILE BACKING UP. WHEN DRIVING FORWARD, THE LIGHTS GO OUT AROUND 15 MPH. THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH IS ON EVERY TIME THE DOOR IS SHUT.
TAMARA RECALL. FORD EDGE 2011 : DOOR AJAR LIGHT WON'T TURN OFF WHEN DOOR IS CLOSED. DOME LIGHTS STAY ON, AND CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT
REAR HATCH AJAR ALARM GOES OFF CONSTANTLY DURING WARMER WEATHER. THIS CAUSES DOME LIGHT TO GO OFF AND ALSO UNLOCKS DOORS. IT DOES THIS WHILE IN MOTION. COLDER WEATHER THIS PROBLEM GOES AWAY SEEMS LIKE
SWITCH ON SHIFTER THAT TELLS THE COMPUTER WHETHER THE CAR IS IN PARK OR RUNNING MALFUNCTIONED. COMPONENT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE SHIFTER AND HAS THE ABILITY TO CAUSE THE VEHICLE NOT TO START SINCE IT NEVER REGISTERS THAT IT IS IN PART WHEN STOPPED. BACKUP CAMERA LINKAGE FAILURE RENDERING THE BACK CAMERA INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY BUT PROBLEM WITH SHIFTER SWITCH REPORTING THE CAR NOT IN PARK COULD RESULT IN THE CAR NOT CUTTING OFF OR STOPPING WHEN RUNNING. TO FIX THESE MALFUNCTIONS AND FAILURES COST OVER $900 DOLLARS. THESE ARE ENGINEERING DEFECTS NOT OWNER RELATED.
WHEN I GO TO SHUT MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR IT TELLS ME THAT'S IT'S NOT SHUT WHEN IT DEFINITELY IS. THIS CAUSES MY INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS TO REMAIN ON. IT TAKES MULTIPLE TIMES OF OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR FOR IT TO FINALLY REGISTER THAT THE DOOR IS INDEED SHUT. IT DIDN'T START UNTIL A FEW MONTHS AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED IT HAPPENED MAYBE ONCE A MONTH BUT RECENTLY IT'S BEEN EVERY TIME I GET INTO THE VEHICLE.
I OWN A 2011 FORD EDGE. NOT LONG AFTER THE WARRANTY RAN OUT MY FRONT DRIVERS DOOR AJAR LIGHT CAME ON. MY DOOR WAS DEFINITELY CLOSED BUT THE LIGHT REMAINS ON. THIS CAUSES THE DOOR LOCKS TO NOT LOCK THE DOORS WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I PARK THE CAR THE EXTERIOR REAR VIEW MIRRORS DOWN LIGHT STAYS ON, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AND SOME DASH LIGHTS. I'VE GONE OUT TO THE GARAGE 4 HOURS AFTER I'VE GOTTEN HOME AND FOUND THEM STILL ON. YES I HAD TO REPLACE THE BATTERY AFTER FINDING IT DEAD. NOW THE REAR DRIVERS DOOR IS SHOWING ITS AJAR ON MY DASH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I CAN'T LOCK THE DOORS WITH MY GRANDKIDS IN THE BACK SEAT. I CAN'T LOCK THE DOORS WHEN I'M DRIVING AT NIGHT OR THROUGH SCAREY AREAS.I TRAVEL WITH MY HUSBAND WHO IS HANDICAPPED AND I CAN'T BE SURE THAT MY CAR WILL START WHEN I RETURN TO IT. I SEE MANY STORIES LIKE MY OWN FROM OTHER EDGE OWNERS AND I HOPE THEY TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM. IT'S WIDESPREAD, DANGEROUS AND AN EXPENSIVE FIX.
DOOR MECHANISM ISN'T WORKING CORRECTLY AND 'DOOR AJAR' WILL PRESENT. THIS KEEPS THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ON AND DOESN'T ALLOW AUTO LOCKS TO ENGAGE BECAUSE IT THINKS THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. IT ISN'T.
A WARNING COMES UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL THAT THE "DRIVER DOOR IS AJAR." I WILL CLOSE IT AGAIN AND MOST TIMES IT STILL SAYS IT IS AJAR. ONCE I BEGIN DRIVING THE DOORS WILL NOT LOCK, NOR WILL THEY ALLOW ME TO LOCK THEM, THEY IMMEDIATELY UNLOCK AGAIN. ALSO THE INTERIOR LIGHTING WILL STAY ON WHEN THE CAR IS NOT BEING DRIVEN AND IS STATIONARY.
THE DOOR LATCH MECHANISM ON MY DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SLOWLY BEGAN FAILING. AT ROUGHLY 35K MILES, THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING WOULD APPEAR ON MY VEHICLE DISPLAY. I WOULD RECLOSE THE DOOR AND THE WARNING WOULD GO AWAY. IT RANDOMLY CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AND RESOLVE ITSELF WHILE STATIONARY OR WHILE RUNNING, UNTIL ABOUT 95K MILES ( 8 MO AGO). THERE WERE ELECTRONIC SPRAYS YOU COULD SPRAY INTO THE LATCH MECHANISM THAT WOULD MAKE THE WARNING GO AWAY FOR A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME. EVENTUALLY THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL MECHANISM FAILED. I COULD NOT LOCK MY DOORS WITH THE IGNITION ON AND EVENTUALLY JUST LEARNED TO 'APPROVE/OK' THE WARNING EVERY TIME THE IGNITION WAS ON. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WERE SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY DRIVING WITH AN SEMI-LATCHED/OPEN DOOR. I DIDN'T KNOW BECAUSE I 'OK'D THE 'DOOR AJAR' WARNING LIKE NORMAL. THE ONLY WAY I WOULD KNOW SOMETHING WAS DIFFEENT, WOULD BE WHEN I DROVE AT A HIGH ENOUGH RATE OF SPEED TO NOTICE THE INCREASED ROAD NOISE FROM MY SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO MY UNDERSTANDING THAT NEWER VEHICLES AUTOMATICALLY LOCK ONCE UNDER WAY TO DISENGAGE THE DOOR OPENING MECHANISM IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT THAT MIGHT OPEN THE DOOR- CLEARLY THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH THE FAILED DOOR LATCH. THE ONLY WORK AROUND THAT I HAVE DISCOVERED IS TO REMOVE A FUSE WHICH REMOVES THE INTERIOR LIGHTING AND PREVENTS THE BATTERY FROM DRAINING. I STILL HAVE TO 'OK" THE 'DOOR AJAR' WARNING THOUGH. AS FOR LOCKING THE VEHICLE FOR SAFETY IN AN ACCIDENT, IF YOU LOCK THE VEHICLE FIRST THEN TURN ON THE IGNITION THE VEHICLE REMAINS LOCKED. THIS WORKAROUND IS RARELY GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE REAL WORLD. THERE WAS A 'CLEANING' PROCEDURE THAT SEVERAL DEALERS OFFERED FOR AROUND $200, BUT IT WAS NOT GUARANTEED AND THE $400 REPLACEMENT MIGHT STILL HAVE TO OCCUR WITH A LATCH THAT STILL OFTEN FAILED (PER INTERNET FORUMS). MY REPAIR IS SCHEDULED FOR 10/8/16.
