THE ESCAPE STALLED WHILE DRIVE 35MPH ON A BUSY STREET, PULLED TO THE SIDE AND RESTARTED WITH NO PROBLEM. *AK
VEHICLE WILL STALL OUT AT ANY SPEED, THERE IS NO PRIOR WARNING, AND EVERYTHING WILL SHUT DOWN.*AK
MY 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT STALLS FREQUENTLY AND ALSO HAS AN EXHAUST SMELL COMING FROM THE AIR VENTS. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN OVER 10 TIMES AND THEY TELL ME IT'S FIXED WHEN IT ISN'T.
AT 50MPH WHEN FOOT WAS LET UP FROM ACCELERATOR, THERE WOULD BE A DELAY IN DECELERATION, ALSO STEERING COLUMN WOULD SHAKE. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE DID NOT ALWAYS ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE CORRECTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PCM COMPUTER SYSTEM THREE TIMES, BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO EXIST. *YH
THIS DRIVER WAS DRIVING ON I-64 WEST AND JUST PASSED EXIT 34 WHEN A DEER CAME JUMPING OVER A DOUBLE HIGH CONCRETE BARRIER AND IN FRONT OF THE FORD ESCAPE. I WAS TRAVELLING ABOUT 75 MILES PER HOUR IN A 70 ZONE. THE ONLY THING THIS DRIVER HAD TIME TO DO WAS TO BEGIN AD TURN THE WHEEL. THE HIT WAS BASICALLY HEAD ON. THE DEER WAS A BIG BUK THAT STOOD AT SHOULDER HEIGHT ABOVE THE HOOD OF THE ESCAPE. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS SMASHED IN. THE INITIAL IMPACT WAS JUST ABOVE THE BUMPER AND THE GRILL RADIATOR, FAN ASSEMBLY AND CONDENSER WERE DESTROYED. EVERY THING OTHE THAN THE BUMPER IS TO BE REPLACED AND INSTALLED BUMPER COVER, BUMPER BRACKETS, ETC. ON THE ADJUSTERS STATEMENT IT SAYS THAT BUMPER NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. THIS EVENT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO FORD. FORD MOTOR SEES TO BE UNCONCERNED SAYING THAT 2 OF THREE SENSORS NEED TO BE DEPLOYED IN ORDER TO ENGAGE THE AIR BAGS. TWO OF THESE SENSORS ARE IN THE BUMPER AND THE OTHER IS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RADIATOR. THE RADIATOR ON THIS 2001 FORD ESCAPE WAS SMASHED LIKE A PANCAKE. DAVE AT TURNPIKE FORD TOLD ME THAT UPON VISUAL INSPECTION THAT THERE IS A SENSOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RADIATOR AND IT REMAINED UNTOUCHED. THE MAIN BULK OF THE DEER DID HIT ABOVE THE BUMPER AND THERE WAS ALOT OF HIM. I FEEL THAT AT 75 MPH THAT HITTING AN ANIMAL THAT BIG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THE AIRBAGS. ISNT THAT WHAT THIS SAFETY FEATURE ABOUT. HOW AM I TO FEEL SURE THAT I AM TO BE SAFE WHEN INVOLVED IN A COLLISION. IF A LARGER VEHICLE WERE TO HIT ME AND MISS MY BUMPER SENSORS DOES THAT MEAN THAT THE SAME AIRBAG SYSTEM IN THIS FORD ESCAPE WOULD NOT DEPLOY?*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 40 MPH, WITH BOTH CHILDREN IN THE CAR, MY CAR STALLED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. MY BRAKES, STEERING, ACCELLERATOR, AND ELECTRICAL(RADIO AND SPEEDOMETER) WENT OUT. I WAS FORCED TO COAST DOWN THE STREET TO FIND SOMEWHERE TO PULL OVER. I HAVE SENT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY ACTED LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT THAT IT HAPPENED AND THAT THEY HADN'T HEARD OF SUCH COMPLAINT. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE IT EVEN AFTER THEY SAID IT IS FIXED. I HAVE HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING,AFTER I DID SOME REASEARCH AND PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED IT HAPPENING AGAIN. I WOULD LIKE SOME KIND OF TRADE OR REIMBUIRSEMENT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH DOWNHILL DURING RUSH HOUR WHEN I LOST POWER. I WAS ON A STRETCH OF INTERSTATE THAT HAD NO SHOULDER SO I COASTED 1/4 MILE TO THE SHOULDER. I WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED MY ALTERNATOR. SIX WEEKS LATER, I GO TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULDN'T START.*AK
VEHICLE WAS IN REVERSE AND BRAKES LOCKED UP, NOT ALLOWING VEHICLE TO MOVE. WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN IN ANY DIRECTION. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ABNORMAL. CONSUMER IS CONCERNED THAT BRAKES CAN LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING.*AK.*JB

WHILE DRIVING, AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH BOARD. *JB
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, WOULDN'T EVEN TURN OVER CTED LIKE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD, EXCEPT THE RADIO WORKED AND SEAT BELT CHIME WOULD RUN. PLAYED WITH STEERING WHEEL AND IT STARTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN 1 YEAR. IT IS AT THE DEALERS RIGHT NOW, THEY SAY THEY NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE. LAST WEEK WHEN IT DID IT AND I WAS MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL , IT DIDN;T EVEN LOCK, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. I ALWAYS PARK WHERE I CAN MAKE SURE A WRECKER CAN GET IN TO HAUL IT TO THE DEALERS.*AK

ENGINE QUIT WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH. NO PRIOR WARNING. LOST POWER ASSIST IN STEERING AND BRAKES. WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD. WAS ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE AND PROCEED. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THIS OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING TO DEALERSHIP FOR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THIS IS ONLY ONE MORE OF NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE.*AK

VEHICLE HAD STALLED ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING 35-40 MPH . VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURRING. *AK THE POWER RELAY WAS CONSIDERED THE CAUSE FOR THE VEHICLE?S STALLING AND WAS REPLACED. WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN, THE DEALER REPLACED THE PFF SENSOR FIRST AND POWER TRAIN CONTROL NEXT AND LASTLY DID PCM PROGRAMMING, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. *YH
CAR WOULD NOT START IN OCTOBER 2001. ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 50 MPH. LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING ABILITIES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON THE MASS TURNPIKE I TRIED TO APPLY MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, I BROUGHT THE M/V TO THE LOCAL DEALER BECAUSE WHERE I BOUGHT IT WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. THEY HAD TO ORDER THE PART AND SAID IT WOULD TAKE THREE TO SIX DAYS JUST TO GET THE PART. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH FORD AND THE FACT THE SAY THE BUILD TO LAST. IT HAS NOT. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SHIFTER POPPED OUT OF GEAR IN A DOWNWARD POSITION, AND BRAKES WERE SQUEAKING. IF SHIFTING VEHICLE FROM PARK TO DRIVE THERE IS A NOISE UNDERNEATH THE PEDAL. *AK
WHEN GOING DOWN A HILL VEHICLE WILL AUTOMATICALLY SHUT OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, DEALER NOTED THAT THE REASON WAS FUEL PUMP BEING LOCATED IN REAR OF VEHICLE. *AK
CAR STALLED, SHUT DOWN AS IF THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT OF THIS HAPPENING. I WAS ON A BUSY HIGHWAY IN THE CENTER LANE GOING 45 MILES AN HOUR. I WAS ABLE, WITHOUT POWER STEERING OR BRAKES, TO PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. ONCE PUT IN NEUTRAL, IT STARTED AGAIN. I WENT DIRECTLY TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID, WELL IT IS ONLY HAPPENING EVERY 5,000 MILES, WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT. THEY DID TAKE THE CAR IN AN WORK THE THE PCM. I HAVE NO IDEA IF THIS HAS FIXED THIS REOCCURING PROBLEM.*AK

WHILE DRIVING DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL GO OFF WITHOUT APRIOR WARNING, HAD CONTACTED DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.*AK
CAR ELECTRICAL, STEERING AND BRAKES CUT OFF DRIVING AT 35-40 MPH ON CURVY ROAD. JUST BOUGHT THE CAR USED 2 DAYS AGO. FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. NOW THAT IVE LOOKED AT THIS SITE, SEEMS MANY PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM. GOING TO DEALER TOMMOROW. WE LIKE THE CAR, BUT WE'RE AFRAID WE HAVE OURSELVES A LEMON. BRAKES WORE DOWN PAST TO THE ROTORS. SAFETY ISSUE:THERE ARE NO LOW PAD WEAR (SQUEALER) INDICATORS ON THE BRAKES. ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NO AUDIBLE SIGN OF PAD WEAR UNLESS INSPECTED VISUALLY. IF I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR ANY LONGER THE HEAT FROM METAL ON METAL WOULD HAVE BLOWN THE FRONT TIRES. *AK
WHEN APPLYING ACCELERATOR, IT DID NOT GET GAS AND VEHICLE STALLED. ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHO REPLACED RELAY SWITCH AND IAC MOTOR. *AK THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AFTER THE RELAY SWITCH WAS REPLACED. THE CONSUMER WAS REQUESTING TO RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR MONEY BACK EQUIVALENT TO THE PURCHASE PRICE. *YH
FRONT TIRES WEAR IS EXCESSIVE CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR. TIRES ARE DOWN TO 5/32 OF INCH AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A NEW VEHICLE WITH ONLY ONE OWNER. I HAVE DONE ALL OF THE TIRE ROTATIONS AS DIRECTED BY THE MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE. *AK (TIRESIZE: P255/70R15)
WHILE TRAVELING UP AN INCLINE AT 55MPH VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. CONSUMER PRESSED GAS PEDAL TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. CONSUMER WAS ALMOST HIT BY A TRUCK. CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
VEHICLE IS STALLING AT LOW SPEED. HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES. POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE/ WIRING ASSEMBLY AND PCM RELAY WERE REPLACED. DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM.*AK
ENGINE STALLED ON JULY3, 2001 WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH WITHOUT WARNING AND VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT LEAST 10 TIMES UNDER THE SAME CONDITIONS. RETURNED VEHICLE 6 TIMES FOR SERVICE BUT NO FIX IS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. MOST RECENT ENGINE FAILURE ON 2/27/02. CONTACTED FORD MOTER COMPANY AND FILED A GRIEVANCE. TRYING TO GET MONEY BACK BUT THE PROCESS IS LONG AND DIFICULT. FORD NOT BEING VERY COOPERATIVE. *AK
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 40MPH, AND THE ENGINE TURNED OFF, I HAD NO STEERING, NO BRAKES, ALMOST WRECKED MY TRUCK WITH MY SMALLCHILD IN THE CAR, HAD TO PULL EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET TRUCK STOPPED, I FEAR FOR MY LIFE NOW, DEALERSHIP SAID IT WAS A BAD RELAY SYSTEM
THIS CAR WILL START BY ITSELF. WITH THE KEY IN IGNITION IN THE ON POSITION, AND NO ONE IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT, STARTS ITSELF.*AK
ESCAPE WAS IN 4 TIMES FOR GAS SMELL-COULD NOT DUPLICATE. FINALLY REPAIRED BUT SMELL IS COMING BACK. TRUCK HAS NOT STARTED REPEATEDLY-BEEN IN TO DEALER-CAN NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM. ENGINE STALLED.*AK
THE SHIFTER ON THE STEERING COLUMN JUMPS OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN THIS CAR TO THE SHOP NUMEROUS TIME FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THEY LOOKED AT IT THE LINKAGE CABLE TO THE DRIVE SHAFT & STEERING COLUMN WAS LOOSE. OTHER TIMES THEY STATE THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. HOWEVER, AS OF THIS DAY THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURS AT LEAST 2-3 A DAY. I HAVE A 16 YR OLD SON WHO JUST STARTED DRIVING AND USES MY CAR FROM TIME TO TIME. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE AND A REAL SAFETY CONCERN. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR ANY VEHICLE TO HAVE THE SHIFTER JUMP OUT OF GEAR. A FIELD ENGINEER TOOK A LOOK AT THE CAR ON 3-18-2002. HE STATED THAT THE CONDITION DESCRIBED IS OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS VEHICLE AND IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. THE SERVICE & PARTS MANAGER STATED THAT NO MATTER WHAT WE DO TO THE CAR NOTHING WILL MAKE IT ANY BETTER. HE ALSO STATED THAT THERE HANDS ARE TIED AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO FIX IT. THIS COULD CAUSE A REAL SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR ME, MY 16 YR OLD AS WELL AS OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. ALSO THERE IS A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN ENGAGING THE GEARS FROM PARK TO REVERSE AND DRIVE TO PARK ETC, WHICH THEY ALSO STATE IS COMPLETELY NORMAL.
VEHICLE STALLS OUT INTERMITTENTLY BETWEEN 35 AND 50 MPH WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. DEALER HAS REPAIRED VEHICLE. *AK THE CONSUMER ALSO NOTICED THAT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FOR THE ENGINE COOLANT AND THE BATTERY INDICATOR WOULD COME ON, AND WOULD STAY ON FOR SEVERAL MILES. *SCC

ON 02/11/2002 TRAVELING AT 35MPH GOING TO WORK MADE A LEFT TURN AND TRUCK SUDDENLY STARTED TO STALL. ACCELLERATION BEGIN TO DECREASE AND A LOUD ROARING OR GRINDING SOUND WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE CAR. PULLED OVER DUE TO DECREASE IN ACCELERATION AND STOPPED CAR. TURNED CAR OFF AND ON AGAIN AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE 35MPH. FINALLY MADE IT TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER LOOKED AT CAR AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE STEERING ASSEMBLY AND REPLACED. ON 03/14/02 WENT OUT TO START CAR AND DROVE 35 MPH ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON THE REMAINING OF DAY. TOOK TO DEALER THE NEXT DAY DUE TO LIGHT STILL ON, DEALER REPLACED PART INDICATING SWITCH CHIP BAD. ON 07/25 AND 07/ 29 CAR FAILS TO START AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF DRIVING HAS DONE THIS ON SEVERAL OCCASION AND HAVE CALLED DEALER TO BRING VEHICLE IN TO LOOK AT ON 08/01/02. VEHICLE STALLS AT 35 -40 MPH ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. NOT HAPPY WITH VEHICLE PROBLEMS AND FEEL THESE DEFECTS CAN BE A DANGER TO ME AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. FORD SHOULD DO THERE BEST TO REPLACE PARTS AND ACCOMODATE THEIR CONSUMERS FOR TIME AND HEADACHES.*AK
