TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH, THE THROTTLE BECAME STUCK WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS FULLY DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE FEEDBACK EGR (DPFE) SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V353000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY DECELERATED AND THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR APPROXIMATELY FIVE MORE MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN. WE OPENED THE HATCH WINDOW AND THE GLASS POPPED OUT INTO MY HUSBANDS HANDS. THE DOOR AJAR KEPT RINGING BECAUSE THE GLASS WASN'T IN PLACE. SINCE THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY HUSBANDS 2001 ESCAPE IN MAY 2015 WE KNEW THAT PARTS WERE AVAILABLE, HOWEVER EXPENSIVE. THE BODY SHOP THAT WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ADVISED US TO CHECK IF THERE WERE ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS FOR THIS SINCE IT SEEMS STRANGE FOR BOTH VEHICLES TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE WINDOW HATCH ISN'T SOMETHING THAT WE GENERALLY USE SO IT ISN'T FROM OVER USE.

THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ONE OTHER OCCASION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,600.

VEHICLE MAKE CLUNK NOISE WHEN SHIFT GEAR IN DRIVE/REVERSE VEHICLE STEERING SHAKEN/MAKING SQUEEKY NOISE
I WAS GOING TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE ACCELERATOR STUCK. I THEN CRASHED INTO A LIGHT POLE AND A BUILDING. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR SOME PART OF THE THROTTLE ON THOSE MODELS FROM 2001 TOO 2004. NEVER HAD ANY NOTICE OF A FACTORY RECALL FORM WHEN I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AT CARHOP, OR FROM FORD DEALERSHIP , OR FROM THE DMV ON THIS MATTER. VERY LUCKY NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THIS INCIDENT INCLUDING MYSELF. THERE IS ALREADY CLAIM THROUGH MY INSURANCE AGENCY STATEFARM ON THIS MATTER. ALL MY YRS. OF DRIVING NOTHING LIKE THIS HAD EVER HAPPENED. *TR

IN 2001 FORD ESCAPES A MISFIRE OCCURS AND CAUSE THE FUEL MILEAGE TO DECREASE. IT ALSO CAUSES THE CAR TO SHUTTER AT IDLE WHEN IT IS COLD. AFTER CHECKING MESSAGE BOARDS IT APPEARS THAT MORE THAN A HANDFUL ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AND DESPITE CHANGING ANY PARTS ACCEPT THE CONNECTORS AND PCM THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS. THE NUMBER OF CARS EFFECTED BY THIS IS MORE THAN JUST A COINCIDENCE AND SHOULD BE LISTED AS A FACTORY DEFECT. *TR
GOING DOWN ROUTE. 226 WHEN A BIG BUCK RAN OUT IN FRONT OF THE FORD ESCAPE. THE CAR WAS TOTALED AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THE NYS TROOPERS CAME TO THE ACCIDENT. HAD TO TAKE MY SON TO THE HOSPITAL BECAUSE OF HITTING HIS UPPER BODY AND FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO OPEN. MY BACK AND NECK IS SORE.
MY SON WAS GOING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 60 MILES AN HOUR WHEN A BIG DEER CAME OUT IN FRONT OF HIM. HE JAMMED ON HIS BRAKES SKIDDING BUT STILL HIT THE DEER TOTALING THE CAR. NOT ONE OF THE AIRBAGS CAME OUT. HE WENT FORWARD HITTING HIS UPPER BODY AND FACE ON THE STEERING WHEEL. HE HAD HIS SEAT BELT ON. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE ACCIDENT. HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL BY FRIENDS. HE TURNED BLACK AND BLUE AND STILL IS HURTING. THE CAR WAS JUST INSPECTED THE END OF OCTOBER. I FEEL FORD AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE. WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD 60 MILES AN HOUR AT NIGHT TIME A DEER RAN IN FRONT OF THE CAR. MY SON JAMMED ON THE BRAKES SKIDDING A DISTANCE HITTING THE DEER. BECAUSE OF JAMMING ON THE BRAKES MY SON HIT THE STEERING WHEEL WITH HIS FACE CAUSING INJURY TO HIS NECK, FACE AND HEAD. HIS SEAT BELT WAS ON AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER WENT OFF. HE SKIDDING A DISTANCE SWERVING RIGHT TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD HITTING A METAL BAR AT THE EDGE OF A DRIVEWAY. I SENT A COMPLAINT INTO THE NHTSA AND WAS TOLD THE AIR BAGS WOULDN'T OF GONE OFF. I ALSO HAVE A PICTURE OF A FRIENDS FORD TRUCK GOING OFF THE ROAD AT 60 HITTING A HOUSE AND THE AIRBAGS NEVER WENT OFF. SO THE EXCUSE THE AIRBAGS WOULDN'T GO OFF HITTING A DEER IS COMPLETELY WRONG. FIGURE OUT THE FORCE OF JAMMING ON THE BRAKES AT 60 MILES AN HOUR SKIDDING A DISTANCE. FORD HAS A PROBLEM AND SHOULD STAND BY THEIR VEHICLES. GOING APPROX. 25 MPH, SLOWING TO A STOP SIGN. APPLIED BRAKES AND PASSENGER TIRE MADE NOISE AND U JOINT BUSTED. RIM//TIRE WAS POSITIONED INCORRECTLY. RUST IS VISIBLE. I WAS IN MY CAR WHICH IS A STICK SHIFT, SO I NATURALLY DON'T HAVE BRAKES PREVENTING ME FROM ROLLING ON A HILL. NHTSA 14V165/ FORD 14S02- BROUGHT 2001 FORD ESCAPE TO FORD DEALER WITH STEERING FAILURE DUE TO FAILURE OF LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATION AT SUB FRAME. CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. WAS TOLD THAT RECALL COVERED BRACKET TO SECURE CONTROL ARM IN CASE OF STEERING FAILURE. STEERING HAD ALREADY FAILED. WAS TOLD SUB FRAME ASSEMBLY WAS ROTTED & SEPARATED. I HAVE PHOTOS. FORD DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE SUB FRAME UNDER RECALL PROTOCOL BUT WAS PREVENTED BY FORD REPS FROM DOING SO BECAUSE THE SEPARATION WAS NOT EXCESSIVE ENOUGH TO MEET CRITERIA. THE LOWER CONTROL ARM WAS OFF ON SEPARATION, THE FRONT WHEEL WAS COMING OFF, BUT THAT WASN'T ENOUGH. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRACKET PLACEMENT UNDER RECALL WAS THE REMEDY TO PREVENT STEERING FAILURE. BUT THIS IS AFTER THE FACT, THE STEERING AND CONTROL ARM HAD ALREADY FAILED AND WERE UNSUSTAINABLE BECAUSE THE BRACKET AT THIS TIME COULDN'T HELP. THE RECALL I WAS TOLD WAS TO PREVENT LOSS OF CONTROL OF STEERING IF PARTS FAILED AND NOT TO REPLACE SUB FRAME. SUB FRAME AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS(LEFT & RIGHT) WERE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE SO THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO JUNK CAR. CAR WAS AT DEALERSHIP TEN DAYS, NO LOANER CAR OR RENTAL WAS REQUESTED, BUT NOT OFFERED EITHER. MULTIPLE CALLS TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY YIELDED NO RESULTS, THEY APPROVED THE DEALERSHIP TO APPEAL THE DECISION TO NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE FROM THE RECALL DEPARTMENT BUT I WAS TOLD THAT ONCE THEY DENY A REPAIR , THEY NEVER RESCIND A DECISION. MY ISSUE IS, WHAT ARE WE DOING? BLOGS ON SAME ISSUE SHOW NUMEROUS REFUSALS TO REPAIR THESE VEHICLES BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THESE ARE SPECIFIC VEHICLES IN SPECIFIC AREAS THAT THEY KNEW OF THE SITUATIONS AND FAILURES, IT IS NOT ISOLATED. I'D LIKE TO GET SOME COMPENSATION TOWARDS THE COST OF THIS VERY PRICEY REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING, MAINLY ON THE INTERSTATE MAINTAINED SPEED OF 70MPH I FEEL THE STEERING GO VERY LIMP. IT'S BEEN MUCH LIKE HYDROPLANING. LIKE THERE IS AIR BETWEEN MY TIRES AND THE ROAD. WE WERE DRIVING AROUND A CURVE AND ONTO A STRAIGHT PART OF THE ROAD ABOUT 40-43 MPH AND THE ENGINE JUST CUT OFF. WE WERE ABLE TO COAST OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOP. THE STEERING AND BRAKES HAD NO POWER. WE TRIED STARTING THE ENGINE AND IT CRANKED BUT ACTED LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING ANY FUEL (THERE WAS HALF A TANK). WE LEFT TO GET A RIDE AND WHEN WE RETURNED TO TOW THE CAR IT STARTED RIGHT UP AND HAS BEEN DRIVING FINE SINCE. WE ARE AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE IF WE HAD BEEN IN TRAFFIC WE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR DOWN THE STREET I BEGAN LOOSING CONTROL OF THE STEERING. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS FACING A 90 DEGREE RIGHT ANGLE AS I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AND EVERY TIME I WOULD HIT A BUMP THE CAR WOULD JUMP TO THE RIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO HAD A LOT OF PLAY WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR STRAIGHT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE INFORMED ME THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE OR SAFE DUE TO THE LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATING FROM THE SUBFRAME WHICH HAS TO DUE WITH RECALL # 14S02. IS THE SUBFRAME BEING REPLACED AT SOME POINT? THEY PUT A CROSSBRACE ON THE VEHICLE BUT IT IS STILL BEING DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
HERE RECENTLY I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCURRENCES OF MY 2001 ESCAPE STALLING WHILE DRIVING. ON 2 OCCASIONS I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, SLIGHTLY UPHILL AND WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT OFF LOSING ALL POWER AND STEERING AND I HAD TO "STAND" ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. A FEW OTHER TIMES IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TURNING A CORNER AS WELL AS GOING THROUGH A STOP LIGHT TURNING RIGHT OR LEFT, NOT GOING FAST AT ALL. PRETTY SCARY STUFF. THIS MODEL HAS CHRONIC ISSUES WITH ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS NOT WORKING. FREQUENT COMPLAINTS OF DOME LIGHT, DOOR LOCKS, AND RADIO NOT WORKING, ALTERNATOR/BATTERY REPLACEMENTS. IT SEEMS TO DRAIN FREQUENTLY AND EITHER NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER, AND/OR BLOW FUSES. THIS IS A VERY FREQUENT OCCURRENCE AND WOULD SEEM FIT FOR A RECALL. *TR

WHILE DRIVING UP AN INCLINE AT APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH FORCE, HOWEVER, THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED ON ONE OCCASION TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE IN WI, AND OUT OF NO WHERE MY REAR WINDSHIELD SHATTERED. THE REAR DEFROST WAS ON AND THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP WAS APPROXIMATELY 16 DEGREES F. THERE WAS NO COLLISION AND NO EVIDENCE FLYING OBJECTS TO CAUSE THE SHATTER. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE INTERSTATE, VEHICLE APPROACHED 50 MILES AN HOUR WHEN IT FELT LIKE THE TRANSMISSION WAS ABOUT TO FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER TALKING WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE AND DOING RESEARCH, THEY CALL THIS SHUDDER. IT FILLS LIKE WHEN YOU DRIVE OFF THE EDGE OF THE INTERSTATE WHITE LINE AND HIT THE ROUGH PAVEMENT. IT WOULD STOP IF I LET UP OFF THE GAS. I HAVE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR TRANSMISSION LIGHT SHOWING ON THE DASHBOARD. NO ERROR CODES WHEN THE CODE READER WAS HOOKED UP ON THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE HAS ALREADY BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE FOR THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME WE HAD ALL OF THE GASKETS AND VACUUM HOSES REPLACED COST WAS OVER 1400 DOLLARS. THE SECOND TIME WE HAD THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BY THE DEALERSHIP OVER 700 DOLLARS ALONG WITH OTHER ITEMS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS STILL NOT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE FOR THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TECH BULLETIN THAT CAME OUT A WHILE BACK ON THE CD4E SHUDDER PROBLEM AND APPEARS THAT NHTSA SHOULD FORCE FORD TO DO A RECALL ON FORD ESCAPES FOR THE SHUDDER PROBLEM THEY HAVE SINCE THE TECH BULLETIN HAS COME OUT AND NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN DONE. ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE SEEMS TO POINT TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER WHICH IS NOT AN EASY FIX AND IS COSTLY. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 11, 2013, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING A 2001 FORD ESCAPE AT NIGHT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE 5 IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, THE FRONT SIDE AIRBAG ON THE DRIVERS SIDE (BUILT INTO THE DRIVER'S SEAT BACKREST) SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED, FRIGHTENING AND NEARLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CAR HAD NOT HIT A POT HOLE OR ANY OTHER OBJECT THAT MIGHT EXPLAIN THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG. THE AIRBAG HIT THE DRIVERS ARM, CAUSING RED MARKS THAT LASTED A DAY, BUT FORTUNATELY NO LASTING INJURY. AFTER PULLING THE CAR OVER AND FINDING NO OTHER DAMAGE (BESIDES THE RIPPED-OUT SIDE OF THE BACKREST WITH THE DEFLATED AIRBAG) THAT WOULD AFFECT OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DRIVEN HOME APPROXIMATELY 10 MILES. THE INCIDENT HAS BEEN REPORTED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND, ON 11/14, WAS DRIVEN TO JIM WILSON FORD IN YREKA, CA TO TRY TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE AND COST OF REPAIR. THE DEALER SAID THAT TWO OR THREE MALFUNCTIONS COULD HAVE CAUSED THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY, BUT THEY COULDN'T PIN DOWN THE CAUSE. COST OF REPAIR IS ESTIMATED TO BE $2,043. AS OF TODAY (11/21/13), THE AIRBAG HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, THINKING THAT MORE INVESTIGATION MIGHT BE PROPOSED FOR THE POTENTIALLY SERIOUS AND EVEN DEADLY DEFECT. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
ON OCTOBER 10TH, 2013, MY WIFE AND I HAD MET FOR HER BIRTHDAY DINNER AT A RESTAURANT IN OUR TOWN. MY WIFE DROVE THE 2001 FORD ESCAPE TO THE RESTAURANT, ABOUT 5 MILES, FROM OUR HOME AND PARKED THE CAR. WE HAD BEEN AT DINNER FOR APPROXIMATELY 25 MINUTES WHEN THE WAITRESS ASKED US IF WE DROVE A RED SUV. WE WERE LED TO THE VEHICLE THAT WAS ON FIRE AND IN THE PROCESS OF BEING EXTINGUISHED BY THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR SAID THAT IT LOOKED AS IF THE FIRE HAD STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THAT NOTHING ELSE LOOKED SUSPICIOUS. HE POINTED OUT THAT THE WIRE INSULATION ON THAT SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ALL MELTED AWAY TO BARE COPPER AND THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WIRING WAS STILL MORE INTACT. THE FIRE DESTROYED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE CAR, THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FENDER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE AND RIM AND MELTED THE DRIVER'S SIDE DASHBOARD. THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IS SMOKE DAMAGED SINCE THE CAR WAS LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS. JUST GRATEFUL THAT MY DAUGHTER OR WIFE WEREN'T DRIVING IT AT THE TIME OF THE FIRE. *TR

I HAVE A 2001 FORD ESCAPE XLT AND JUST RECENTLY MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT EXCEEDED 20MPH WHILE DRIVING ON AN EVEN ROAD AND WOULD NOT EXCEEDED 5-10MPH ON A SMALL HILL. I HAD THE VEHICLE TAKEN IN TO BE EVALUATED AND AM TOLD THAT TWO OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE NOTICED THAT MANY 2001 ESCAPE OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY CAN DO TO RECTIFY THIS SITUATION. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE SINCE JUNE 17, 2011 AND TILL NOW HAVE BEEN VERY SATISFIED WITH THE VEHICLE BUT I AM NOT SURE WHAT I AM GOING TO DO.

THE GEAR FAILED TO SHIFT OUT OF REVERSE AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, CRASHING INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. THE FRONT AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT SIDE LOWER BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A SALVAGE YARD AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED FOR THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,050.
I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE SINCE MARCH 2013. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE OR GAS PEDAL ON THIS VEHICLE SINCE OWNING IT, BUT ON MONDAY, 7/29/13, I HAD JUST DRIVEN ABOUT 18 MILES AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 50 MPH. I PULLED UP IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE AT 11:00 PM AND PUT VEHICLE IN PARK. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE ENGINE STARTED RACING TO WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE GAS PEDAL BEING FLOORED. I PUNCHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING CHANGED. I TRIED PUNCHING THE PEDAL AGAIN WITH MY FOOT, AND STILL NO CHANGE. I EVEN REACHED DOWN TO SEE IF THE FLOOR MAT HAD INTERFERED WITH THE GAS PEDAL, BUT IT HAD NOT. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE NEXT MORNING, MY BOYFRIEND, AWARE OF THE ISSUE, TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE, BUT THE VEHICLE DIDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I CALLED MY MECHANIC ON TUESDAY, JULY 30, 2013 AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE MECHANIC CANNOT GET ME IN UNTIL NEXT WEEK. THE APPOINTMENT IS SET FOR WED. 8/7/13. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE IN IT'S UNPREDICTABLE CONDITION. *TR
