THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ON MARCH 26, 2012 AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE PART WAS UNAVAILABLE. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS RECENTLY NOTIFIED AND THEY WERE ALSO UNCERTAIN WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THERE ARE NO FAILURES AT THIS TIME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND THE ABS MOTOR CONTINUED RUNNING ONCE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V005000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE) PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICED UNDER THE RECALL WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME PERIOD AND BELIEVED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE LACK OF RECALL SERVICE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS CONTACTED AND DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS, STATING THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WAS NOT ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO FORD TO ADJUST BRAKES BECAUSE THE FELT MUSHY AND PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. FORD ADJUSTED THE BRAKES, FOUND A CRACKED BRAKE LINE, AND BLEED THE BRAKES AND CHARGED $260. TWO WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. LEFT THE CAR AT FORD THIS TIME THEY SAY A FAULTY MASTER CYLINDER WHICH IS ANOTHER $280. NOW OF COURSE THEY CLAIM THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE RECALL FOR THE LEAKING MASTER CYLINDER CAP. *TR
I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM FORD M.C. THAT MY FORD 2002 ESCAPE CAN SPONTANEOUSLY CATCH FIRE AND BURN MY HOUSE DOWN WHILE TURNED OFF INSIDE MY GARAGE OR WHILE RUNNING, THEREFORE I SHOULD STOP PARKING THE VEHICLE NEAR ANY HOUSE STRUCTURES. WHEN I CALLED FORD, I'M TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS OTHERWISE SAFE, WHILE IT IS SCHEDULED TO BE REPAIRED SOMETIME IN QUARTER #2 OF THIS YEAR. HOW SAFE DOES THIS SOUND TO YOU..??? ADVISED NOT TO PARK CAR NEAR ANY STRUCTURES TO PREVENT A POTENTIAL FIRE FROM SPREADING IN UNLIKELY EVENT THAT YOUR ABS MODULE DEVELOPS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. FORD DEALER INSPECTION PERFORMED 2/9/2012 STATES CAR WILL NEED SAFETY RECALL PARTS BUT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR 45 DAYS OR LATER. CONTACTED FORD MFG, CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR TRIED TO LOCATE PARTS- UNAVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THE ONLY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION FOR THE CONTACT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO PERFORM REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 90,000.

THE SMOKE CLEARED WITHIN MOMENTS, BEFORE THE CONTACT COULD REACH THE VEHICLE AND INVESTIGATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AND LEFT WITH THE DEALER. THE DEALER LATER CONTACTED THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE TO INFORM HIM THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPLODED WHILE AT THE DEALER AND DAMAGED FIVE OTHER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V005000 FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED HER NEAREST DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD NOT BECOME AVAILABLE UNTIL APRIL 2012. PRIOR TO RECEIVING THE RECALL NOTICE, THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 10 MPH WHEN SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
ATTORNEY FOR DRIVER'S FAMILY AND MEDIA REPORTS INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE IN THE PHOENIX / MESA AREA ALONG ARIZONA STATE ROUTE 87 TOWARDS PAYSON. THE FINAL APPROACH TO PAYSON INVOLVES A PROLONGED UPWARD GRADE, WHICH WOULD HAVE REQUIRED HEAVY ACCELERATOR USE BY THE DRIVER. ALONG THE WAY, THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO DISENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR OR OTHERWISE BRING THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP. THE VEHICLE STRUCK OTHER VEHICLES AS IT TRAVERSED AN INTERSECTION, AND ROLLED, EJECTING THE DRIVER, WHO SUFFERED FATAL INJURIES. A SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE DOCUMENTED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CONNECTOR WAS LODGED AGAINST THE UNDERSIDE OF THE ENGINE COVER AND THAT THE THROTTLE WAS OPEN TO 84%. THE VEHICLE HAD RECEIVED THE ACCELERATOR CABLE REPLACEMENT FOR RECALL 04V574 IN JANUARY OF 2005. [XXX] WAS DRIVING HER 2002 FORD ESCAPE WHEN, WHILE ACCELERATING UP A HILL, THE SPEED CONTROL THROTTLE GUIDE ROTATED UP INTO THE APPEARANCE COVER AND BECAME LATCHED IN A RIB. THIS RESULTED IN A WIDE OPEN THROTTLE, AND [XXX] WAS UNABLE TO SLOW OR STOP THE CAR. THE BRAKES THEN OVERHEATED AND FAILED, AND SHE SPED THROUGH TOWN UNTIL SHE SWERVED TO AVOID ANOTHER CAR AND CRASHED. HER CAR ROLLED SEVERAL TIMES, AND [XXX]WAS KILLED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL LATE SPRING 2012. WHEN I FIRST START MY VEHICLE AND BEGIN DRIVING IT, UNLESS I REACH 20 MPH BEFORE NEEDING TO BRAKE, THE BRAKES MAKE A GRINDING NOISE AND AT FIRST THE PEDAL RESISTS, THEN IT GIVES WAY IN, CAUSING THE BRAKE TO NEED TO PRESSED DOWN COMPLETELY BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL COME TO A STOP. ONCE I REACH THE 20 MPH OR SO, THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON, AND AFTER THAT, THE BRAKES WORK FINE. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY REPORTEDLY DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES, BUT PERFORMED A RECALL ON ONLY THE ABS LIGHT ITSELF. THIS DID NOTHING FOR THE GRINDING RESISTANCE AND FAILURE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL UPON INITIALLY NEEDING TO STOP, AND STILL THE ABS LIGHT POPS ON ONCE I REACH 20-25 MPH. *TR

THE CONTACT NEVER RECEIVED THE LETTER AND CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THAT THE PARTS NEEDED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR WERE NOT READILY AVAILABLE AND COULD NOT PROVIDE AN ESTIMATED TIME OF AVAILABILITY. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT ONE OF THE RECALL CONSEQUENCES IF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED IN A REASONABLE TIME FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. DEAR NHTSA: I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN JANUARY 2012 FOR MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE. A POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL SHORT COULD OCCUR IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WHICH COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. BECAUSE OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE, OWNERS WERE INSTRUCTED TO PARK THEIR CARS AWAY FROM STRUCTURES TO PREVENT POSSIBLE FIRE FROM SPREADING. .FOR THE LAST FOUR MONTHS FORD HAS BEEN TELLING US THAT PARTS ARE UNAVAILABLE AND THEY DO NOT KNOW WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. IT SEEMS THAT FORD HAS NO REGARD FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEY CERTAINLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE INCONVENIENCE THIS IS CAUSING THEIR CUSTOMERS. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO USE MY GARAGE SINCE JANUARY AND HAVE BEEN PARKING MY CAR AWAY FROM STRUCTURES AND OTHER VEHICLES. I CANNOT SELL OR TRADE MY VEHICLE. YESTERDAY,FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLD ME THAT PARTS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE BY THE SECOND QUARTER OF THIS YEAR, ALTHOUGH THEY CANNOT GUARANTEE IT. YESTERDAY I DROVE AROUND TOWN RUNNING ERRANDS IN MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE AND IT WAS FINE. CAME HOME LAST NIGHT (TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS AROUND 27 DEGREES OUTSIDE) AND PARKED IT IN GARAGE. WHEN I WENT OUT TO GARAGE NEXT DAY (14 HOURS LATER) TO LEAVE AGAIN I NOTICED MY FORD ESCAPE HAD IT'S BACK GLASS THAT WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED OUT OF IT AND ALL OVER THE FLOOR OF THE GARAGE. ALL DOORS TO GARAGE WERE SHUT AND LOCKED. THIS EXPLOSION OF GLASS HAPPENED ALL BY ITSELF AFTER BEING PARKED THERE THE NIGHT BEFORE. ALSO HAVE AN ISSUE WITH AIR BAG LIGHT AND CHECK FUEL CAP LIGHT THAT HAS BOTH BEEN STAYING ON AND CANNOT GET EITHER TO STAY OFF!! WORRIED VEHICLE IS GONNA FALL APART SOME DAY BEFORE I GET MY CHILD TO HIS SCHOOL ONE MORNING..NOT DEPENDABLE VEHICLE AFTER ALL!! :( SEEMS I HAVE READ MANY MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS FROM ESCAPE OWNERS WANTING TO KNOW..ARE THERE NO RECALLS FOR THE BACKGLASS?? WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL SPEEDS ON ICE-GLAZED WINTER ROADS IN FAIRBANKS, AK, I APPROACHED AN INTERSECTION AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO PREPARE TO SLOW DOWN. INSTEAD OF DROPPING TO IDLE SPEEDS, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED UP TO 3500-4000 RPM. I SHIFTED THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKES, BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AT HIGH-THROTTLE UNTIL I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. METAL STRAPS HOLDING UP THE GAS TANK RUSTED AND BROKE ON JULY 28, 2011 WHILE FILLING THE GAS TANK. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE TWO METAL STRAPS ON AUGUST 1, 2011. ON AUGUST 2, 2011 A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM ON SIMILAR FORD VEHICLES THAT WERE MANUFACTURED DURING THE SAME YEAR. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED IT WAS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT WAS CITED IN THE RECALL AND STATED THAT I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED. *TR

THE NEXT DAY THE VALVE NEXT TO THE DPFE SENSOR BLEW A HOLE AND ALL PARTS WERE REPLACED. THE NEXT DAY ONE OF THE DPFE TUBES CAME OFF AGAIN. THIS WAS REPLACED AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR DID NOT HAVE GOOD GAS POWER. WHEN GOING UP A SMALL INCLINE THE CAR WOULD NOT GO PAST 40 MPH. WENT TO CAR REPAIR SHOP AND O2 SENSOR WAS REMOVED TO SEE IF IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS CAR HAS 3 CATALYTIC CONVERTERS. THIS CAR IS AT ANOTHER CAR REPAIR SHOP NOW TO SEE WHAT THE CAUSE IS FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER(S) TO GO BAD. ONE REPAIR SHOP ADVISED THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD ESCAPES. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM. I WENT OUT TO THE FORD FORUM AND THERE ARE ENTRIES FROM 2007 TO PRESENT WITH MANY 2002 ESCAPE OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT I AM EXPERIENCING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V156000 (SERVICE BRAKES: HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT MODULE) JULY 7, 2007. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
ON OR ABOUT JUNE 17, 2011, MY 2002 FORD ESCAPE WAS PARKED AND THE IGNITITION WAS IN THE OFF POSITION WHEN MY CAR ALARM WENT OFF. WHEN I LOOKED OUTSIDE I OBSERVED SMOKE BELLOWING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE NEXT DAY, I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE TO DEALER, WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE ABS MODULE HAS OVERHEATED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE OF $720.00 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK; CONTROL UNIT MODULE WAS RECALLED BY FORD (#07S51)ON APRIL 23, 2007 AND CONTINUES TO BE OPEN. I WAS IN CONTACT WITH SERVICE MANAGER FOR DEALER ON OR ABOUT JUNE 30TH TO FOLLOW UP ON THE WORK THEY HAD DONE IN MAY 2007 CONCERNING THIS PROBLEM. HE INFORMED ME THAT WHEN THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE IN 5/07, THERE WAS NO PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS PROPERLY INSPECTED, AND THEY PLACED GREASE ON IT , AND ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. ON OR ABOUT JULY 1, 2011, SUBMITTED A CLAIM TO THE FORD MOTOR CO. REGARDING THIS REPAIR AT NO COST TO ME. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, HAS ALSO DISCOVERED ANOTHER RECALL PROBLEM (NHTSA #07E023000)SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: FOUNDATION COMPONENTS: MASTER CYLINDER AND THAT BRAKE FLUID HAS LEAKED FROM THE REAR OF MASTER CYLINDER AND HAS LEAKED ON THE VEHICLE INTO THE POWER BRAKE BOOSTER. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING NO BRAKES WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDEL. DESPITE THESE RECALL PROBLEMS BEING INVESITGATED, NEITHER FORD MOTOR COMPANY FEEL THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS AND HAVE TOLD ME I MUST BARE THE ENORMOUS COSTS FOR THESE REPAIRS ON MY OWN AND/OR DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNSAFELY. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED IN PRESCOTT, AZ FOR OVER 3 WEEKS, AND AM TIRED OF WRANGLING WITH ALL THREE DEALERSHIP/COMPANIES AND NEED YOUR HELP IN INVESTIGATING THIS SITUATION! THANK YOU! *TT
PEELING PAINT ON ROOF, HUTCH AND AROUND THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR. *TR
I DROVE MY VEHICLE HOME FROM WORK (LESS THAN 5 MILES). WHEN I PULLED INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND PARKED MY VEHICLE, SMOKE BEGAN TO POUR OUT FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN I OPENED THE HOOD THERE WERE FLAMES DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER SIDE NEAR THE FIRE WALL. THESE FLAMES WERE ORIGINATING FROM THE ABS MODULE LOCATION.
